Trump offers a public show of support for Pete Hegseth, his embattled nominee to lead the Pentagon
Several Republican attorneys general filed a lawsuit Wednesday against three major U.S. investment companies over concerns regarding their environmental activism. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and 10 other AGs accused BlackRock, Vanguard, and State Street of violating antitrust laws by promoting environmental, social, and governance goals. The companies, some of the largest investors in U.S. coal production, allegedly pose a threat to competition within the energy industry. The complaint alleges the companies’ actions have driven up coal and energy prices. “As demand for the electricity Americans need to heat their homes and power their businesses has gone up, the supply of the coal used to generate that electricity has been artificially depressed—and the price has skyrocketed,” the document reads. “Defendants have reaped the rewards of higher returns, higher fees, and higher profits, while American consumers have paid the price in higher utility bills and higher costs.” The 109-page complaint charges the companies with seven violations and seeks $10,000 per violation, along with other fines. “Texas will not tolerate the illegal weaponization of the financial industry in service of a destructive, politicized ‘environmental’ agenda,” Paxton wrote on X. “BlackRock, Vanguard, and State Street formed a cartel to rig the coal market, artificially reduce the energy supply, and raise prices. Their conspiracy has harmed American energy production and hurt consumers. This is a stunning violation of state and federal law.” BlackRock said it has complied with federal regulations regarding its involvement in the energy sector. “BlackRock’s holdings in energy companies are regularly reviewed by federal and state regulators,” it wrote. “We make these investments on behalf of our clients, and our focus is on delivering them financial returns.” “The suggestion that BlackRock has invested money in companies with the goal of harming those companies is baseless and defies common sense,” it added. “This lawsuit undermines Texas’ pro-business reputation and discourages investments in the companies consumers rely on.” State Street called the lawsuit “baseless” in a statement Friday morning. “State Street acts in the long-term financial interests of investors with a focus on enhancing shareholder value. As long-term capital providers, we have a mutual interest in the long-term success of our portfolio companies,” a State Street spokesperson said. The lawsuit follows President-elect Donald Trump’s decision to nominate Liberty Energy CEO Chris Wright to lead the Department of Energy. Trump said Wright would oversee “U.S. energy dominance,” along with his pick to lead the Department of the Interior, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum.Ruben Amorim assistant breaks silence on Man United appointment with five-word messageA Christmas Story has remained a seminal holiday movie since its release in 1983 and is a favorite to watch on Christmas Day. The movie follows nine-year-old Ralphie Parker (Peter Billingsley) who is determined that he wants a new Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas, but all the adults are trying to convince him its a bad idea because it might "shoot your eye out." Despite being released more than 40 years ago , many of its stars have remained in show business, so let's take a look at what they're up to today. Peter Billingsley (Ralphie) The star of the film with his iconic blue eyes and glasses, stayed in movies and even continued to make hit Christmas films. Billingsley had an uncredited role in 2003's Elf starring Will Ferrell and he also served as a producer—even briefly making a cameo appearance—in Four Christmases, starring Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon. The actor remained close to the movie that made him famous around the world and co-produced the original 2012 Broadway musical adaptation of A Christmas Story. Billingsley once again played Ralphie in the 2022 HBO Max film A Christmas Story Christmas . Ian Petrella (Randy Parker) The actor would go on to have some more acting roles in TV shows such as Diff'rent Strokes and Who's The Boss? after landing his first acting role at the age of three. Petrella took a 15-year break from acting where he traveled the world and studied marionette puppetry in Czechia. He eventually returned to the U.S. where he made animated shorts and acted in A Christmas Story Christmas alongside Billingsley. Scott Schwartz (Flick) Schwartz perhaps had one of the most memorable scenes in cinema history when his character licked a frozen light pole, getting his tongue stuck. In the 1990s, Schwartz turned his attention to the adult film industry where he starred as an actor and also worked behind the camera. He eventually returned to mainstream acting but is well known for his collection of celebrity-based trading cards. Schwartz also reprised his role as Flick for the HBO sequel to A Christmas Story . Zack Ward (Scut Farkus) Scut Farkus was the notorious bully in A Christmas Story and also returned for the 2022 sequel. "It's part of my life that I really couldn't separate away from," Ward told Newsweek in 2022. "And I'm sure the day that I die, they'll be like, 'Oh, by the way, Scut Farkus has passed, and his other name was Zack Ward.' So it's like being Batman, I guess." Other than starring in the Christmas classic, Ward has had a prolific acting career. Some of his credits include, American Horror Story , It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia , Mike and Molly , Liv and Maddie , three CSI shows, Hawaii Five-O , Cold Case and Transformers. Melinda Dillon (Mrs. Parker) Dillon had already won a Tony Award and been nominated twice for an Oscar before appearing in the Christmas film. She was nominated for an Academy Award for her roles in Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Absence of Malice . She continued to work in many movies and TV shows, with some of her final roles coming in 2007, including the series Heartland and the film Reign Over Me with Adam Sandler. Dillon passed away in 2023 at the age of 83. Darren McGavin (Old Man) McGavin played Ralphie's very grumpy, but loving dad. He is probably most remembered in the movie for bringing out a lamp that looked like a leg in a fishnet stocking. After A Christmas Story, McGavin played Adam Sandler's billionaire dad in Billy Madison . McGavin was nominated for an Emmy in 1990 for a guest appearance on sitcom Murphy Brown. McGavin passed away from heart disease in 2006, aged 83. Yano Anaya (Grover Dill) The actor portrayed Scut Farkus' sidekick and continued to act, including reprising his role in the HBO sequel. Anaya made headlines in 2022 when the owner of the iconic house from A Christmas Story slammed him for taking selfies with fans outside the property, per TMZ. When the owner listed the property for sale, Anaya expressed an interest in buying it. "You guys ain't gonna buy this place. I'm never selling it to you," the man is heard telling Anaya in a video posted on TMZ.
Lighting a Christmas tree is an old-fashioned tradition but it was the intersection of new-fangled technology and Christmas spirit that was on the mind of Bobby Clue Thursday night. Clue, executive director of the Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce, was one of those to share words of greeting to those assembled on the Fountain Square for the ceremonial lighting of the community Christmas tree in the center of downtown Somerset. And Clue took the occasion to remind those observing about the importance of peace and goodwill — particularly this time of year, and particularly via the online channels that often provide individuals the opportunity to share less than charitable thoughts about their neighbors. “In today’s world, I fear we are often consumed with negative and hurtful comments, comments that are often hurled from a distance on social media,” said Clue. “We must do better with our comments that we use toward others.” Despite the frigid temperatures braved by those who came out for the ceremony, which dropped down into the low 20s, the message of keeping one’s heart warm like the glowing bulbs on the tree itself was Clue’s focus on the evening. Bobby Clue, Executive Director of the Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce, speaks at Thursday’s tree lighting ceremony on the Fountain Square. “Be the reason someone smiles today. Be the reason someone feels loved. Be the reason someone sleeps better tonight, not worse,” he said. “If we want better in the world, we must all work to be a better version of ourselves, and practicing kindness can have more of an impact on a person than you could ever imagine.” Clue then wished everyone a “wonderful Christmas” and expressed hope that people “truly remember the reason for the season” and that they take him up on his challenge to make a positive impact in someone’s life this holiday season. Merry sentiments were also shared by City of Somerset Mayor Alan Keck and Pulaski County Judge-Executive Marshall Todd, both of whom received the opportunity to speak at the tree lighting ceremony. “This is one of the most special nights of the year, regardless of the weather, for a lot of reasons,” said Keck. “... We get to celebrate a real light, and we get to do it in a country where we get to do that freely, largely free of persecution. I pray, I hope and trust that we never take that for granted, but also tonight, we get to celebrate these kiddos, we get to celebrate community, coming together to celebrate a beautiful cause — not just Christmas, but again, that sense of community.” The “kiddos” mentioned by Keck were there to see Santa Claus, who made one of his multiple scheduled stops in Pulaski County this holiday season on Thursday. Santa — assisted by local musician Tommy Cate — read aloud from Clement Clarke Moore’s beloved “A Visit from St. Nicholas” or “’Twas the Night Before Christmas,” and also sang favorite tunes with kids while playing the guitar for his annual “Santa Jam.” Todd was pleased that the crowd was bigger than he expected considering the chilly weather. “This is where memories are made,” said Todd. “I was thinking previously ... back when I was much younger, we would come to town around Christmastime, and all these streets, if you remember back far enough, they all had tinsel and stuff across all the lights and the wires across the street, and it was all decorated ... “We’re here to make memories, to play on family traditions, and lots of things that go on in the holiday season, but we just want to remember that the reason for the season is the birth of our savior,” he added. “Just remember that, and don’t get caught up in all the hoopla of shopping and doing all the things we do at Christmas. Just remember the main reason for the season.” Somerset Mayor Alan Keck and Pulaski County Judge-Executive Marshall Todd flip the ceremonial switch that turns on the lights of the community Christmas tree on Thursday. Keck and Todd pulled the ceremonial switch together, as is local custom, to officially turn on the lights for the community Christmas tree for the 2024 holiday season. The lights typically remain on though Christmas to the new year, and provide an attractive sight for those driving around the Fountain Square. The tree — an 18-foot-tall artificial pine — has been up since November 15, largely due to timing issues and the opportunity to do the work in favorable weather. In recent years, the lighting ceremony has taken place a couple days before the Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade, so that the tree would be lit already for the parade; in the past, the lights were turned on at parade’s end. This year’s Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade will take place this weekend, Saturday, December 7, beginning at 5 p.m. at Meece Middle School and following the same route as in past years, ending at the Judicial Center parking lot. The parade travels a route of approximately 1.4 miles, west along East Mt. Vernon Street, turning north onto College Street, west on Oak Street, then south on Main Street and around the Fountain Square and back onto East Mt. Vernon Street and South Central Avenue, ending at the Judicial Center parking lot. U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers and his wife Cynthia are scheduled to appear as the parade’s Grand Marshals this year. For those who didn’t want to brave the cold, the tree lighting ceremony was broadcast on the Chamber’s Facebook page with co-emcees Laura Glover and Angie Travis, co-chairs of the Christmas Parade. The parade will be broadcast online as well for those who wish to view from home. A view of the community Christmas tree on the Fountain Square following Thursday's lighting ceremony. It’s a busy time of year for the Chamber’s Clue — almost as busy as for Santa Claus himself — but he was happy to be on hand for Thursday’s tree lighting and happy that so many others came out as well to share in the fellowship and festivities. “It’s a surprisingly large crowd, considering how cold it is; I think that we have as many people (on Thursday) as we did last year, and it’s at least 30 degrees cooler,” said Clue that night following the event’s conclusion. “So I’m very happy with the crowd, and if you didn’t make it out, that’s okay. We’ve given those people at home a really good experience (watching online) as well.”The President of Worldwide Miracle Outreach (WMO), Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, has called on Ghanaians to prioritize values over superficial attributes when casting their votes in the upcoming elections. Speaking during a media engagement in Accra, Rev. Dr. Tetteh emphasized the importance of making informed choices based on moral and developmental principles rather than physical appearance, religious affiliations, or background. “It is very important that I admonish every Ghanaian to vote on values—not on how good-looking somebody is, not how fair someone is, not on their religion, or where they come from. We must vote on values,” he stated firmly. In a lighthearted moment, he alluded to a prophecy, saying, “I jokingly said the last time that I had a prophecy—the person who wins this election is a ‘not-man.’ And the person who will be our next vice president is also a ‘not-man.’” While leaving room for interpretation, he reiterated the focus should remain on nurturing Ghana’s future through education and informed decision-making. “Let’s educate our children, ensure they attend school, and pursue academic programs that shape their future. Education is key to national progress,” he urged. Rev. Dr. Tetteh’s comments come as Ghana gears up for its election, with citizens keenly watching how values and integrity will shape leadership choices. Source: Isaac Kofi Dzokpo/newsghana.com.gh
Zayn Malik has paid tribute to Liam Payne during a concert in his former One Direction band mate's hometown of Wolverhampton, saying he "hopes" the late star sees his gig. Login or signup to continue reading The singer, 31, had kicked off his Stairway To The Sky tour in Leeds' O2 Academy with an on-stage blue screen message that read "Liam Payne 1993-2024. Love you bro" with a pink heart. However, he has not appeared to directly speak about Payne, who died aged 31 in Argentina in October, during the tour. Videos on social media showed Malik telling his audience at the University of Wolverhampton venue The Halls "I've been doing something, at the end of the show, every night, and it's been dedicated to my brother Liam Payne". "Rest in peace," Malik said. "I hope you're seeing this. We're in your hometown tonight - Wolverhampton, this is for you, Liam." Malik rescheduled his tour's original opening dates in Edinburgh due to Payne's funeral, which he attended with fellow One Direction stars Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan. Malik left One Direction in 2015 before the group went on indefinite hiatus in 2016, with the members all going on to pursue solo careers. Following the death of Payne, Malik said he "never got to thank" his friend for supporting him through some of the "most difficult" times in his life. "I lost a brother when you left us and can't explain to you what I'd give to just give you a hug one last time and say goodbye to you properly and tell you that I loved and respected you dearly", he said in a statement shared to Instagram. "I will cherish all the memories I have with you in my heart forever. "There is no words that justify or explain how I feel right now other than beyond devastated. "I hope that wherever you are right now you are good and are at peace and you know how loved you are. Love you, bro." Argentinian prosecutors are investigating Payne's death and three people have been charged in connection with the incident. Payne died on October 16 of multiple traumas and "internal and external haemorrhage" after falling from a third-floor balcony of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires, a post-mortem report said. She led Iowa to the national championship game, was the top pick in the WNBA draft and captured rookie of the year honors in the league. Fans packed sold-out arenas and millions of television viewers followed her journey on and off the court. Clark's exploits also put other women's sports leagues in the spotlight. A group of 74 sports journalists from AP and its members voted on the award. Other athletes who received votes included Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles and boxer Imane Khelif. Clark’s only the fourth women’s basketball player to win the award since it was first given in 1931. Wemby at The Garden. LeBron vs. Steph. The NBA's Christmas Day lineup, as always, has star power LeBron James made his Christmas debut in 2003. Victor Wembanyama was born 10 days later. That’s right: James has been featured on the NBA’s big day for longer than Wembanyama has been alive. And on Wednesday the league’s oldest player and brightest young star will be big parts of the holiday showcase. It’s another Christmas quintupleheader, with Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs visiting the New York Knicks, Minnesota going to Dallas for a Western Conference finals rematch, Philadelphia heading to Boston to renew a storied rivalry, James and the Los Angeles Lakers taking on Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors, and Denver playing at Phoenix. Pro Picks: Chiefs will beat the Steelers and Ravens will edge the Texans on Christmas Day Playoff berths, draft positioning and more are up for grabs in Week 17. There’s going to be plenty of football on television this holiday week with the NFL playing games on five out of six days, starting with a doubleheader on Christmas Day featuring four of the AFC’s top five teams. Patrick Mahomes and the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs visit Russell Wilson and the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday. Then, two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens take on C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans. The Bears host the Seahawks on Thursday night and there are three games on Saturday, making Sunday’s schedule light at nine games. Falcons drafting Penix no longer a head-scratcher with rookie QB shining in place of benched Cousins It was the most surprising first-round pick in a long time when the Atlanta Falcons chose Michael Penix Jr. with the eighth overall selection in the NFL draft last April. That came just six weeks after the Falcons had signed free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins to a four-year, $180 million deal with $100 million in guarantees. But that move is no longer a head-scratcher after Penix's solid starting debut in place of a benched and turnover-prone Cousins. Several teams have fared well with new quarterbacks this season including the Steelers, Broncos, Vikings and Commanders. Lindsey Vonn thinks her new titanium knee could start a trend in skiing. And pro sports in general ST. MORITZ, Switzerland (AP) — Lindsey Vonn thinks her new titanium knee could be the start of a trend in ski racing. The 40-year-old American standout had replacement surgery in April and returned to the World Cup circuit after nearly six years last weekend. She says her knee feels “amazing" and that "it’s something to seriously consider for athletes that have a lot of knee problems.” Her surgery was the first of its kind in World Cup skiing. Vonn had a robot-assisted surgery in April with part of the bone in her right knee cut off and replaced by two titanium pieces. She was planning her comeback a month later. Boise State's legacy includes winning coaches and championship moments No. 8 and third-seeded Boise State is preparing for its third trip to the Fiesta Bowl. This time it's in a playoff quarterfinal against No. 5 and sixth-seeded Penn State on New Year’s Eve. Boise State's first appearance on the national stage was in a memorable victory over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 1, 2007. But former coach Chris Petersen said the victory in that bowl three years later over TCU was even more meaningful for the program. Embiid ejected after drawing 2 technicals in game against Wembanyama and Spurs PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid was ejected in the first half of Monday night’s game against San Antonio after drawing two technical fouls. Referee Jenna Schroeder ejected Embiid with 2 minutes, 59 seconds left in the second quarter. The seven-time All-Star received the first technical for arguing with Schroeder, and received another technical — and ejection — from Schroeder before any more game time elapsed. Embiid was close to Schroeder, but it wasn’t clear from replays whether he made contact with the official. An enraged Embiid charged toward the officials after the ejection and was restrained by teammate Kyle Lowry, head coach Nick Nurse and several assistants. Nikki Glaser uses Prime Video's NFL postgame show appearances to help prepare for Golden Globes INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Nikki Glaser has become a familiar face to football fans this season. Her breakthrough performance at the Tom Brady Roast on May 5 paved the way for five appearances on Amazon Prime Video’s “Thursday Night Football” postgame show. Glaser said before last Thursday’s game between the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers that doing her “Late Hits” segment was a no-brainer following her success at the Brady roast. Leaving Thunder, Bucks off the NBA's Christmas game list has those teams feeling snubbed Oklahoma City leads the Western Conference and has a MVP candidate in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Milwaukee has the NBA’s leading scorer in Giannis Antetokounmpo. They were the teams that made their way to the NBA Cup final. By any measure, they’re both very good teams. And neither will play on Christmas Day this year. Bah, humbug. The NBA faces the same challenge every summer, figuring out which 10 teams will get the honor of playing on Christmas Day. But the Bucks and Thunder are right to feel snubbed. Heat lose guard Dru Smith for remainder of season with torn Achilles Miami Heat guard Dru Smith has suffered another season-ending injury, this one a torn Achilles in his left leg. It is the third time that Smith has had a season cut short since February 2022. Smith got hurt Monday night in Miami’s 110-95 win over Brooklyn. The Achilles tear was the preliminary diagnosis once he left the court for evaluation, and an MRI exam on Tuesday confirmed the severity of the injury. This injury comes 13 months after he was lost for most of the 2023-24 season with a right knee injury. Smith also saw his 2021-22 season in the G League cut short by a knee injury.

Saudi Arabia Reiterates Need to End Conflict in SudanKalaburagi: In response to the Prime Minister's allegations about opposition parties spreading misinformation and plotting against the nation, RDPR minister Priyank Kharge raised several questions about the govt's conduct during its administration. Speaking to mediapersons on Saturday, he challenged PM Modi 's continuous assertions over the last 11 years regarding alleged conspiracies aimed at the nation. He demanded clear evidence of any steps taken in light of these claimed threats. Kharge also sought clarification regarding the nature of these supposed plots, their sources, and the involvement of intelligence services. He criticised the current appointment system of officials, suggesting they serve merely as passive listeners to prime ministerial broadcasts. He also said the Prime Minister tends to alter his message depending on his audience. Addressing BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal's comments about his family, Priyank Kharge stated that the BJP demonstrates ignorance about our history and that of the Razakars. He elaborated that this ignorance prompted his suggestion that they undertake a free DNA test to establish their roots and identity. He questioned whether chanting ‘Jai Sri Ram' would serve as a solution to the mistakes made by seers. Kharge interpreted the BJP's silence on Pejawar Swamiji's statements to support the Manu Smriti. He questioned the appropriateness of remaining silent when religious leaders, meant to provide social guidance, instead foster religious divisions. He advised opposition leader R Ashoka that any street protests in support of these individuals would trigger a massive public movement to protect the Constitution.
Buffalo Bills activate All-Pro star Matt Milano in huge boost as he prepares to play his first game in 14 months READ MORE: Bills clash with the 49ers under threat as team asks fans for help By DANIEL MATTHEWS Published: 21:43 GMT, 30 November 2024 | Updated: 21:45 GMT, 30 November 2024 e-mail 19 shares View comments Matt Milano is this weekend in line to play his first game for the Buffalo Bills since October 2023 after the linebacker was activated from injured reserve. Come Sunday night, when the Bills take on the San Francisco 49ers at a snowy Highmark Stadium, it will have been 420 days since Milano suited up for game. The former All-Pro has been out since the Bills faced the Jaguars in London last season and his return is a huge boost for the Super Bowl hopefuls. Milano missed Buffalo's first 11 games of the NFL season after suffering a bicep tear back in mid-August. It came after the key defensive weapon suffered a season-ending leg injury against Jacksonville. The Bills have also elevated quarterback Mike White and tight end Zach Davidson from the practice squad, with defensive tackle DeWayne Carter downgraded to out. San Francisco, meanwhile, has been boosted by the news that Brock Purdy is set to return for their potentially season-defining game against the Bills . Temperatures had already fallen below freezing by Saturday afternoon, with up to 4ft of snow expected before Sunday's NFL clash. But Buffalo was already painted white a day earlier as the weather turned brutal in Western New York. Footage and pictures from Orchard Park showed the area around Highmark Stadium covered in snow, with visibility very limited and cars battling slushy roads. Ahead of Sunday's game, the Bills put a call out for volunteers to help clear the stadium in anticipation of the winter snow. 'The rate of pay will be $20 per hour with food and hot beverages provided,' the team said. Ryan Day Had 6-Word Message After Losing To Michigan AgainPakistan in fresh push to resolve differences with KabulBlake Lively had always been a pretty inoffensive kind of actress. She had been in successful TV shows and films, like Gossip Girl and The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants. She married fellow superstar Ryan Reynolds. She's friends with Taylor Swift. Then in August, while promoting her latest movie It Ends With Us, she , . She was criticised for comments appearing to downplay domestic violence, the film's theme; while awkward old interviews were resurfaced and repurposed as evidence of bullying behaviour. Public opinion - at least among those who knew and cared - seemed to have turned against her. Then the film came out, the furore died down, and social media moved on. But Lively has now filed a legal case that claims she suffered sexual harassment by It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni - and that when she complained, he and his studio Wayfarer retaliated by waging a campaign to "destroy" her reputation. She was the subject of "a sophisticated, co-ordinated, and well-financed retaliation plan" designed "to silence her", involving a "weaponised a digital army" and fake stories being fed to "unwitting reporters", her lawyers have alleged - and that's why she became the focus of negative publicity. Her lawyers have published text messages sent between Baldoni's publicist Jennifer Abel and Melissa Nathan, a crisis communications specialist hired by his studio to help manage the harassment complaint. They appear to give a rare glimpse into conversations that are normally kept well out of the spotlight. Nathan pitched a strategy to "start threads of theories" on social media, to "create, seed, and promote content that appeared to be authentic", and engage in "social manipulation", according to the legal papers. "You know we can bury anyone," Nathan wrote to Abel in one damning discussion. Now, the people hired to do crisis PR for Baldoni are doing crisis PR for themselves. Abel has said Lively's lawyers "cherry picked" messages to include in their case without crucial context, and that there was "no 'smear' implemented". "No negative press was ever facilitated, no social combat plan, although we were prepared for it as it's our job to be ready for any scenario. "But we didn't have to implement anything because the internet was doing the work for us." The backlash against Lively occurred naturally and didn't need their help, Abel said. Lawyer Bryan Freedman, representing Baldoni and his studio as well as Abel and Nathan, echoed that. He said Baldoni hired a crisis manager due to "multiple demands and threats" allegedly made by Lively, including "threatening to not [show] up to set, threatening to not promote the film, ultimately leading to its demise during release, if her demands were not met". He said the plan drawn up by Nathan's firm "proved unnecessary as audiences found Lively's own actions, interviews and marketing during the promotional tour distasteful, and responded organically to that, which the media themselves picked up on". Overall, Freedman called Lively's complaint "shameful" and full of "categorically false accusations". In recent days, Lively has received support from a string of former co-stars and others in Hollywood. The name of one of her supporters stands out. Amber Heard, former wife of Johnny Depp, : "Social media is the absolute personification of the classic saying, 'A lie travels halfway around the world before truth can get its boots on.' "I saw this firsthand and up close. It's as horrifying as it is destructive." Heard was on the receiving end of social media hostility during two high-profile libel trials involving Depp in the UK and US in 2020 and 2022. Nathan also reportedly worked for Depp. Freedman responded to Heard by saying the only connection between her and Lively was that "for decades every move they have made has been out there for everyone to see" so the public could "make up their own minds - which they did, organically". Tortoise Media head of investigations Alexi Mostrous, who hosted a podcast called earlier this year examining the abuse she received, said there were parallels. "In both the Blake Lively case and the Amber Heard case, you see PR companies working with digital media specialists and other 'contractors' to promote online stories beneficial to their wealthy clients in ways that are opaque and not well understood," he told BBC News. "It's an unregulated world where all sorts of tactics can take place behind closed doors." Lively's case "lays bare a show business process that's meant to operate in the shadows – the hiring of expensive crisis communications experts to sway opinion and uplift clients". Her allegations suggest a "sinister shadow campaign" that went "beyond what most publicity firms in Hollywood see as acceptable", . According to Rory Lynch, partner and head of reputation management law at Gateley Legal, it is "quite a common tactic" in Hollywood and business disputes to "have PRs on both sides planting negative stories, sometimes false stories, about the opposition". "Even back in the golden era of Hollywood, there were rumours that Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor were using PR professionals to negatively brief against each other." However, the PR people who worked for Baldoni and his studio "dropped the ball a little bit" by discussing tactics in texts, he told BBC News. "It doesn't surprise me, especially in the US and Hollywood, that you've got quite aggressive crisis PR people. "But the fact that they put that in writing, I think, was possibly not the wisest thing. Normally they might do something like that over the phone." Lively herself is "a sophisticated operator" who will "have her own PR people working away in the background as well", Lynch added. , which broke the story of Lively's complaint at the weekend, said she "denied that she or any of her representatives planted or spread negative information about Mr Baldoni or Wayfarer". The paper also pointed out that "it is impossible to know how much of the negative publicity" towards Lively was originally seeded by those working on behalf of Baldoni, "and how much they noticed and amplified". Many fans who turned against Lively now see the situation in a different light. "We are so able to be manipulated into hating a woman that all it takes is a co-ordinated PR effort for us to switch sides against a domestic abuse victim, or a long-beloved American sweetheart," . "Now our eyes are open, will we be harder to fool? Or will we still want any excuse to turn on a famous woman who is suddenly, in our eyes and the eyes of the ones manipulating us, no longer worthy?" that she and her friends had now "looked back, horrified, on what we had said about her in recent months". She added: "Lively's complaint has left my head spinning. What can you really trust?"

WR Drake London has 61 catches, leaving him four away from becoming the first player in team history to have at least 65 receptions in each of his first three seasons. London has 710 receiving yards, leaving him 140 away from becoming the first player in team history with at least 850 in each of his first three seasons. Falcons RB Bijan Robinson vs. Chargers' run defense. Robinson was shut down by Denver, gaining only 35 yards on 12 carries, and the Atlanta offense couldn't recover. The Chargers rank 10th in the league against the run, so it will be a challenge for the Falcons to find a way to establish a ground game with Robinson and Tyler Allgeier. A solid running attack would create an opportunity for offensive coordinator Zac Robinson to establish the play-action passes for quarterback Kirk Cousins. Besides Dobbins, the Chargers also placed S Alohi Gilman (hamstring) on injured reserve. CB Cam Hart (ankle) and LB Denzel Perryman (groin) also have been ruled out. ... The Falcons needed the bye to give a long list of injured players an opportunity to heal. WR WR KhaDarel Hodge (neck) did not practice on Wednesday. WR Darnell Mooney (Achilles), CB Kevin King (concussion), DL Zach Harrison (knee, Achilles) and WR Casey Washington (concussion) were hurt in the 38-6 loss at Denver on Nov. 17 and were limited on Wednesday. C Drew Dalman (ankle) could return. The Chargers have won the past three games in the series following six consecutive wins by the Falcons from 1991-2012. Los Angeles took a 33-30 overtime win in Atlanta in 2016 before the Chargers added 20-17 wins at home in 2020 and in Atlanta in 2022. The Falcons won the first meeting between the teams, 41-0 in San Diego in 1973. Each team has built its record on success against the soft NFC South. Atlanta is 4-1 against division rivals. Los Angeles is 2-0 against the NFC South this season. The Chargers have a four-game winning streak against the division. ... Atlanta is 0-2 against AFC West teams, following a 22-17 loss to Kansas City and the lopsided loss at Denver. The Falcons will complete their tour of the AFC West with a game at the Las Vegas Raiders on Dec. 16. ... The Falcons are the league's only first-place team with a negative points differential. Atlanta has been outscored 274-244. The loss of Dobbins, who has rushed for eight touchdowns, could put more pressure on QB Justin Hebert and the passing game. Herbert's favorite option has been WR Ladd McConkey, who has four TD receptions among his 49 catches for 698 yards. McConkey, the former University of Georgia standout who was drafted in the second round, could enjoy a productive return to the state against a Falcons defense that ranks only 26th against the pass.
