Indian Bull Run: Markets Surge as Foreign Investors Buy InIt wasn’t the ending Argentine football fans had in mind when the Monumental stadium was chosen as the venue for the final match of the 2024 Copa Libertadores. Despite high hopes for some local representatives, two Brazilian teams ended up in the final game of South America’s most important tournament. Nonetheless, Buenos Aires woke up dressed in black and white on Saturday, the traditional colors of Botafogo and Atlético Minerio as the two teams faced off to see who would emerge victorious. The crowning event of South American football was played in a stadium packed with Brazilian fans who saw Botafogo reach the pinnacle of its history by beating Atlético Mineiro 2-0 to claim its first ever Copa Libertadores. The day Buenos Aires dressed in black and white Many of the over 40,000 Brazilians who arrived in the city spent several days experiencing the Argentine capital before the match. In their saying, Buenos Aires gets high marks for its culture and sights. “It’s a city with a great architecture, very beautiful, and with a lot of personality,” Mineiro fan Mario S. told the Herald, adding that the people were very kind. He travelled from his native Belo Horizonte to Buenos Aires to witness his first ever Copa Libertadores final, having previously missed his team’s first appearance in 2013. The trip, however, was not all good news. Several of the Brazilian tourists complained about Buenos Aires’ prices in restaurants and cafés. On Thursday, a Botafogo fan shared his amazement over paying 114 reais (around US$20) for a quick snack of a coffee and a piece of cheesecake. Organizers Conmebol had the challenge of creating a Buenos Aires final with no Argentine representatives, making the host city stand out amid the colorful Brazilian footballing culture. Despite being held at one of the Argentine capital’s premiere footballing venues, the match failed to captivate the interest of local fans, with few neutrals in the stands. The opening ceremony paid tribute to Buenos Aires’ tango culture, with an accordion version of the Copa Libertadores anthem. The rest, however, focused on the regional and cultural differences between both sets of fans. Brazilian rapper Djonga fired up Mineiro fans, while host and humorist Marcelo Adnet did the same for the Botafogo crowd. Botafogo fans, who completed their section of the Monumental and even filled up their own Nilton Santos stadium back home with fans attending to watch the broadcast, showed up with an impressive tifo, a huge mosaic of the club’s flag done holding colored paper pieces. But it was the Mineiro fans who proved the noisier crowd early on, with deafening cheers when their team was introduced. A game of two halves Much of the game was marked by the minute-one sending off of Botafogo midfielder Gregore da Silva, who just 29 seconds in put his studs into Mineiro’s Fausto Vera. ¡¡ROJA EN BOTAFOGO AL MINUTO DE JUEGO!! 📺 Mirá la final de la CONMEBOL #Libertadores por #DisneyPlus Premium pic.twitter.com/L3cgyejwoI At a disadvantage so early on, Botafogo looked to defend deep and use the speed of its attackers to counter. Mineiro kept possession of the ball, but was unable to break down the defence. Despite being one man down, Botafogo managed to hit first. In the 35th minute, striker Luiz Henrique da Silva took advantage of a poor rejection from a shot to slot it in from inside the six yard box. ¡¡BOTAFOGO LO GANA CON UNO MENOS!! Nine minutes after the first goal, goalkeeper Everson Pires went out to pick up a loose ball and ended up clipping attacker Luiz Henrique while defender Guilherme Arana was trying to fend him off. After a VAR review, referee Facundo Tello gave a penalty and defender Alex Telles secured the 2-0. Atlético Mineiro came out of half time determined to make its numbers advantage count, and quickly got one back. In the 46th minute, substitute striker Eduardo Vargas scored a header from a Hulk da Souza corner for 2-1. ¡¡TURBOMAN!! In the 63rd minute, Hulk received the ball on the right and darted left past his defender for a shot, forcing a great save by goalkeeper John Victor. Vargas went from hero to villain late in the second half. After scoring Mineiro’s first goal, he went on to miss two clear chances to tie the game. He sent a point blank chance over the bar in the 85th minute, then tried to chip John Victor two minutes later. In the final minute of added time, Botafogo landed the winning blow. ¡¡3-1 Y BOTAFOGO CAMPEÓN DE AMÉRICA!! 📺 Mirá la final de la CONMEBOL #Libertadores por #DisneyPlus Premium pic.twitter.com/PYkQHyb6a0 With Mineiro all in to tie the game, striker Júnior Santos dribbled past two defenders and then picked up the rebound from his cross to make it 3-1 and seal the deal. “Today was one of the biggest games in my life,” Qatar 2022-winner with the Argentina national team and Botafogo striker Thiago Almada said after the game. “We’ll celebrate with our family, our friends and our fans.” “I think we were the best team of the Libertadores. No rival bested us in the whole tournament, and I think we’re deserving winners. Today we were one man short and we played an intelligent game, showing our character.” Botafogo’s first Copa Libertadores is only the second international title the team has one after the 1993 Copa Conmebol. It became the last of Brazil’s big 12 teams to win the competition, and sealed its ticket to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Pelicans’ injury hell gets worse with Brandon Ingram out indefinitelyMinnesota looks to stop skid vs. Bethune-CookmanTHIS is the shocking moment a toddler walked out of his cell in Syria’s infamous Saydnaya military prison, a site dubbed the "industrial torture chamber" of Bashar al-Assad’s regime. The boy's confusion was met with cries of "Allahu Akbar" — "God is greatest" — as jubilant rebel fighters stormed the facility near Damascus, unlocking doors and freeing hundreds of female inmates. Saydnaya prison, notorious for its systemic torture and mass executions, symbolised the Assad regime's brutal reign. Amnesty International reports estimated that between 5,000 and 13,000 prisoners were hanged there since 2011. Inmates endured years of dehumanising conditions, with women and children often imprisoned alongside political detainees in a calculated campaign of fear. Footage shared on social media captured the heart-rending scene. Women wept with joy and children clung to newly freed relatives as rebels cut through padlocks and swung open cell doors. The toddler, hesitating at the threshold of his cell, became an emblem of innocence in a place synonymous with horror. Rebel fighters ushered survivors into waiting buses, which transported them to safety and reunion with loved ones. “We celebrate with the Syrian people the news of freeing our prisoners,” a rebel spokesperson declared. “This marks the end of the era of injustice in Saydnaya prison.” The prison's liberation comes amid a cascade of events that are toppling Assad's 24-year rule. After seizing Damascus in a swift and decisive offensive, rebel forces declared victory and announced that the city was "free of Assad." The dictator fled the capital on Sunday, reportedly aboard a plane that disappeared from radars. It is understood he has sought refuge in Moscow and is currently under Russian protection. The collapse of Assad's regime ignited celebrations across Syria. In the capital, thousands poured into the streets, waving rebel flags and lighting flares. Statues of Assad and his late father, Hafez, were toppled in symbolic acts of defiance. At Assad’s presidential palace, rebels filmed themselves looting valuables, including luxury vehicles and designer goods. While Damascus rejoiced, chaos unfolded in the wake of the regime's collapse. Rebels stormed embassies, including those of Iran and Italy, looting property and forcing evacuations. Assad loyalists who had not fled were paraded through the streets under armed guard. The broader conflict, however, remains complex. While the fall of Assad is celebrated, Syria is still fractured. Rebel leader Abu Mohammed al-Golani, a controversial figure, has vowed inclusivity, stating that “Syria is for everyone, no exceptions.” Yet, tensions persist among various factions, with Turkish-backed forces clashing with Kurdish groups in the north, and ISIS maintaining a foothold in remote areas. The rebels face the monumental task of rebuilding a nation shattered by 13 years of war. An estimated half a million Syrians have died, and millions more have been displaced. Rebel leaders have pledged to establish a transitional government and rebuild the country on principles of democracy and pluralism. International reactions to Assad's fall are mixed. Israel has conducted airstrikes on suspected chemical weapon sites in Syria, and Russian military bases in the country are on high alert. Meanwhile, US President-elect Donald Trump has also stated that America should remain uninvolved in the uprising.

It has been completely closed since the start of the war. Ukrainians who want to fly abroad currently have to go via road or rail to neighbouring countries to catch flights. For those living in the east, the journey out of Ukraine can take a day in itself. "We conducted a risk assessment and determined the needs of the air defence forces to partially open the airspace," local news agency Ukrinform quoted Shmyhal as saying at a transportation conference. "Security issues and the military situation remain key to this decision," he said. Shmyhal added that Russia had attacked Ukraine's port infrastructure nearly 60 times in the last three months, damaging or destroying nearly 300 facilities and 22 civilian vessels. A senior partner at insurance broker Marsh McLennan told Reuters earlier this month that Ukraine could reopen the airport in the western city of Lviv in 2025 if regulators deem it safe and a political decision is made. The Ukrainian military on Saturday reported heavy fighting along the front lines in the eastern Donbas region as Russia continued to launch attacks. Fierce clashes were reported in the key areas of Pokrovsk and Kurakhove, which are the focal point of the Russian advance in eastern Ukraine. A breakthrough would pave the way for the Russian forces to advance towards the strategic cities of Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia. However, Ukrainian military experts say the front in the Donbas region has stabilised after Ukraine deployed reinforcements to the area. In total, the General Staff in Kyiv recorded 153 engagements along the front lines. with DPA DAILY Today's top stories curated by our news team. Kanthan vegetable farmers compensated last month for agreeing to move out FORMER farmers cultivating on state land illegally for decades in Kanthan near Ipoh, Perak, have been paid compensation after moving out to make way for the Silver Valley Technology Park (SVTP) project. State tourism, industry, investment and corridor development committee chairman Loh Sze Yee said work on the first phase of SVTP could now start as the farmers had moved out last month. He said the state economic development arm Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak (PKNPk) together with the developer of the project held a ceremony to hand over the payment on Nov 21. “The 20-year-old issue has been resolved without any untoward incidents. “The developer is now carrying out land clearance work on a 131.5ha site for Phase I,” he said in reply to Mohd Hafez Sabri (PN-Manjoi) during the Perak State Assembly sitting at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan in Ipoh yesterday. Mohd Hafez had asked about the development status of SVTP. Loh said the developer was expected to commence preliminary infrastructure works on the site in the first quarter of next year. “The industrial sector plays an important role in the economic development of the state, and based on the Market and Property Report, the performance of the property market in Perak was encouraging in 2023. “Market activity showed an upward movement,” he said, highlighting that the state government was committed to providing initiatives to drive Perak’s economy. Among them were infrastructure empowerment, investment incentives, trade and investment promotions to China and Taiwan as well as skills development institutions to grow talent. Under the leadership of Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, Loh said Perak had been taking a new approach namely “thinking out of the box”. “In the 13th Malaysia Plan engagement session, the Economy Minister had praised the Perak government for being the only state that applied for a RM50mil loan for the SVTP project. “This is in contrast to the approach of other states that are likely to apply for direct allocations,” Loh added.PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jalen Hurts may sit out a potential NFC East clincher against Dallas because of the lingering effects of a concussion . The Eagles could also just rest Hurts to play it safe -- even if he’s medically cleared ahead of Sunday’s game -- and protect their franchise QB from additional injury over the final two games.
