WHEN police busted Bujar Cozminca for flooding Britain with £8million worth of cocaine, they were dealing with a familiar face. The Albanian gangster, 33 had already been booted out of the country on drugs charges nine years earlier, yet was easily able to sneak back into the UK to build up his criminal empire. He is one of a growing number of high-profile Albanians nicknamed the Boomerang Gang. They are making a mockery of Britain’s immigration system — sneaking in and out of the UK despite being deported. An intelligence source told The Sun: “It’s an utter disgrace. They get jailed and kicked out only to come back into Britain and carry on where they left off. They are in and out so often they joke about being boomerangs.” A Sun probe reveals how easy it is for crooks to get into the country in the back of lorries and in small boats. In the past four years, at least 12 major Albanian criminals have come back to the UK after being kicked out. Kingpin Cozminca was first deported in 2012 after serving 21 months for conspiracy to supply drugs. He was sent back to Albania but returned to build up his drugs empire. When he was arrested for a second time in 2021, police found he was involved in buying and supplying 100kg of coke, with a street value of £8million and had laundered £2.5million of criminal cash. Using the codename “insatiable beta”, Cozminca negotiated multi-kilo cocaine deals and laundered thousands of pounds of cash weekly. When officers from the National Crime Agency swooped on his two flats in Islington and Wembley in North London , they found £300,000 in cash and ledgers which revealed drug deals worth £2million. He was jailed for 12 years at Snaresbrook Crown Court in June after admitting supply. Others smuggled back into the UK include a thug who boasted to police he had returned “several times” since being kicked out in 2015 and one who admitted paying £3,000 to small boat smugglers in France. Albanian mobsters have seized control of Britain’s drug market over the past two decades after forming an alliance with Latin American drug cartels . Many splash their cash on luxury lifestyles wearing designer clothes and driving top-end cars. The Hellbanianz, one of the most infamous gangs, is known for making music videos on social media, mostly filmed on the Gascoigne Estate in Barking, East London . One in 50 Albanians living in the UK are in jail — more than 1,200 of a population of nearly 53,000. Britain has more illegal migrants than any other European nation. In October, a study revealed as many as 745,000 live in Britain. But it’s not just those smuggled into the UK that are a crime concern. Figures show almost 400,000 legal migrants have been allowed in without criminal record checks since 2021. Rob Bates, research director at the Centre for Migration Control, said: “With the huge numbers entering each year, systems inside the Home Office are unable to perform adequate checks on every individual. “The Home Office needs to recognise certain nationalities are more likely to fall foul of the law or be involved in certain types of crime. Albania is a clear example. Until we get serious about tackling this, our streets will continue playing host to dangerous gangs and organised crime from overseas. “Thousands of undocumented young men arriving each year are able to join networks.” Tony Smith, former head of UK Border Force, suspects gang members are getting back into the country using new routes — most likely hitching lifts on small fishing vessels and dropped at coves. Criminology professor Ervin Karamuco, at the University of Tirana in Albania, said UK-based gangs are idolised back home. He added: “Those convicted in Britain build connections in prison and maintain close relationships with other active Albanian or foreign criminal groups. They stay connected to that network even when they’re deported and re-engage with them to find the fastest way back.” A Home Office spokesman said: “The new Border Security Command is bringing together our intelligence and enforcement agencies to smash criminal smuggling gangs, and we are working closely with the international partners, including the government of Albania, to further this effort.” 2022: DEPORTED 2023: JAILED FOR CANNABIS FIRST caught working on a cannabis farm in Roath, Cardiff, and given a 14-month sentence in May 2022 Beti, 37, was released early after agreeing to be sent back home in August 2022 but was found in the back of a lorry a year later. In October 2023 he was jailed for 16 months for breaching his deportation order before being released on licence. He vanished, only to turn up at another cannabis farm in Pembroke. Jailing him for two years and eight months, Judge Geraint Walters said Beti had returned to Britain “as soon as he could” and said his story of being exploited should be “treated with a pinch of salt”. 2015: DEPORTED 2024: JAILED FOR DRUGS VIOLENT Fatjon Cani was deported in 2015 but returned and was convicted of grievous bodily harm in October 2021. In January this year he was found in a car suspected to be linked to drugs on the M62 and admitted he had re-entered the UK “several times” in the past nine years. Cani, 29, from Manchester, told officers he paid smugglers £3,000 to cross the Channel . He was jailed for 20 months for breaching his deportation order. 2021: DEPORTED 2024: JAILED FOR CANNABIS DEPORTED part-way through a 23-month jail sentence for producing cannabis in Rotherham in 2021. Returned to the UK in January 2023 and picked up ten days later in a car with a “large amount of cash”. Police found 75 cannabis plants in a property Blogu, 36, claimed was his home address. He was jailed for 40 months in March. 2019: DEPORTED 2023: JAILED FOR RETURNING CONVICTED of possession with intent to supply cannabis and having fake ID in 2019, and deported. Police found him in Wales last August, and Imeraj, 31, told them he came to UK in 2008 and had since travelled back and forth to Albania. Caught twice by border cops. Jailed for six months in September 2023 for breaching deportation rules. 2015: DEPORTED 2020: JAILED FOR CANNABIS SENT back to Albania in 2015 for running a cannabis factory in Cardiff. Police found him at another £60,000 dope farm in November 2020. He claimed he was being exploited by an Albanian gang but was jailed for 21 months. In 2013 Farruku, 37, was caught at the Channel tunnel trying to get into UK. 2015: DEPORTED 2020: JAILED FOR GUNS DEPORTED in 2015 after being given three years’ jail for firearms offences. When police raided his home in North London in 2019 they found two loaded guns and £70,000 worth of cannabis. Myftaraj, 31, was jailed for 15 years in 2020. DEPORTED 2020: JAILED FOR COCAINE CAUGHT with £10,000 of cocaine in Maidstone, Kent, in 2020 after being deported. The 28-year-old admitted he had been thrown out of Britain on a “number of occasions” only to return. Duka was jailed for 40 months. 2023: DEPORTED 2024: RECALLED TO JAIL DEPORTED in May 2023 after serving two years for supplying cocaine and holding a fake document. The 28-year-old was stopped by cops in Ipswich in June this year and recalled to serve his original sentence. 2017 & 2020: DEPORTED 2020: JAILED BURGLAR was jailed for nine months and deported in 2017. Returned to Britain within the year and carried out a spree of break-ins. Puka, 28, was jailed for three-and-a-half years and deported in March 2020. It is thought he is back in UK and is seeking asylum. DEPORTED 2024: JAILED FOR COCAINE CAUGHT transporting coke with a street value of £22,500 this October after illegally re-entering the UK. Jailed for three years at Exeter Crown Court for intent to supply. His lawyer claimed Coti, 23, owed £12,000 to people smugglers. DEPORTED 2020: JAILED FOR TASER JAILED for 28 months in 2020 after police in Basildon, Essex, found a Taser in his pocket. Fake documents claimed he was an Italian entitled to work in Britain. Kikija, 35, had previously been convicted for dealing drugs and kicked out of UK.Lea en español For many people, this time of year is all about the shopping. And there's a fair chance many feel less than joyful about the prospect. If fulfilling your lengthy list feels overwhelming, learning what brain science and evolutionary psychology say about shopping and gift-giving might help you understand exactly why you're stressed – and even point you toward a healthier, happier holiday season. Our reactions are encoded into our nervous system, said Dr. Beth Frates, a part-time associate professor in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School in Boston. "By understanding these brain responses, people can develop strategies to manage stress better, such as setting realistic expectations, focusing on mindfulness and simplifying holiday preparations," said Frates, who also is the immediate past president of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. The idea of exchanging gifts at this time of year can be traced back to pagan solstice celebrations. But the drive to share with another is as old as humanity itself, said Dr. Diego Guevara Beltran, a postdoctoral fellow in psychology at the University of Arizona in Tucson who studies cooperation and generosity. The science of generosity is more about survival than stocking stuffers, Guevara Beltran said. Sharing food gave early humans an evolutionary advantage. "Generosity is just one of the ways by which we can accumulate resources, be it wealth itself or friendships or work partners or more attractive, more intelligent mates," he said. Sharing with other people, Guevara Beltran said, is "a signal that communicates how much you value them, their welfare, your relationship with them." Research has shown that helping people makes us feel good. Part of that, he said, is because when someone is part of a community, they feel protected. One way this manifests is through the act of giving gifts. But to derive happiness from gift-giving, the giver needs to feel both that it was not an obligation and that it was effective, according to the 2019 World Happiness Report . That means it could be stressful to be in a culture where gift-giving feels mandatory, or if we can't see that a gift helped someone, Guevara Beltran speculated. It also might be stressful if gift-giving becomes a competition to show that you care about somebody more than the others around them. Our brains on shopping Stressful shopping can cause several physiological responses to kick in, Frates said. First is the "fight or flight" reaction that comes with stress. The release of chemicals that increase our heart rate, raise our blood pressure and intensify our breathing evolved to give us bursts of energy to escape danger. Frates said that while holiday stressors are not life-threatening, they can still trigger the stress response. The pressure to stay within budget could create a sense of scarcity, she said. "This taps into an evolutionary response, where the fear of losing resources like money can feel urgent and distressing." The holiday season also involves a lot of choices. "The brain has limited capacity for decision-making, and making multiple decisions can lead to decision fatigue," Frates said. "This fatigue reduces the ability to self-regulate and cope, which can lead to heightened stress responses when confronted with even minor setbacks, like a long line or out-of-stock item." The stress of needing to complete tasks within a limited time can intensify the fight-or-flight response, she said, as the brain interprets the ticking clock as a sense of urgency or threat. Meanwhile, Frates said, holiday shopping can also trigger brain chemicals that affect our feelings. "Dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and reward, is released when we anticipate something exciting or enjoyable, like finding a great gift or finding a good deal," she said. "This anticipation can feel rewarding even before any actual purchase is made." For some people, this dopamine boost can make shopping a relaxing experience. "It provides a temporary distraction from other stressors and allows them to focus on something positive, creating a 'holiday high,'" Frates said. For some people, that can be problematic. "When shopping becomes a way to chase that next dopamine hit, it can lead to excessive spending or impulsive purchases," she said. "This can become a trap, particularly during the holidays, when deals, sales and gift-giving pressures are everywhere." Understanding how all these processes work can help people recognize why they feel the way they do and adopt strategies to cope, Frates said. Here are some of her suggestions. 1. Start with self-care before shopping Prioritizing self-care means people can be their best selves and make good decisions, Frates said. So, "eat food that is delicious and nutritious. Get seven to nine hours of sleep. Make sure to enjoy physical activity. Take walks when you can and invite friends along. Practice stress reduction like meditation or yoga to help you calm your body and mind." Before going shopping, try taking deep breaths using stress-relieving techniques such as 4-7-8 breathing (inhale through your nose for four counts, hold for seven counts, and exhale through your mouth for eight) or box breathing (inhale through the nose for four counts, hold your breath for four, exhale for four, then hold for four). 2. Be strategic Don't shop when you're hungry, tired, lonely or stressed, Frates said. And don't start shopping 15 minutes before a store closes or a website's online deals end, she said. That's setting yourself up for triggering the fight-or-flight response. 3. Be mindful Before making a purchase, take a moment to consider whether it's truly needed or whether it's an impulsive choice. To avoid overindulging, set a specific budget or limit yourself to a couple of hours or specific shopping days. "This keeps dopamine-driven spending in check while still allowing for the enjoyable aspects of holiday shopping," Frates said. Look for post-shopping activities that provide rewards without the financial cost. That can satisfy your brain's desire for more dopamine in a healthier way. "Plan enjoyable, stress-relieving activities after shopping, like going for a walk, spending time with friends or indulging in a hobby," she said. 4. Bring a friend Not only does this support healthy social connections, Frates said, but if things start feeling stressful, "you have a buddy, and you have a support system right there for you." 5. Rethink the focus of the season "With gift-giving, we need to change mindsets in order to be able to manage the stress," Frates said. The holidays could be used to emphasize social connections, she said. "Thinking about the connection with the person and making gift-giving more about deepening the connection than anything else, I think, will really help to reduce the stress around the process," she said. So instead of scouring shops and websites for the "perfect" gift, think about making a meaningful and personal one, she suggested. It could be a poem, a painting, a song or a framed photograph that captured a special time. 6. Lessons for children It's easy to get caught up in the hunt for a hard-to-get item, Frates said. But ask yourself what the holiday means in your family's traditions. "Is it about getting that perfect gift for the child? Or is it about celebrating the meaning of that holiday?" So instead of having children ask for one specific toy, or a specific brand of clothing, teach them to leave a little leeway on their lists. "It is a good reminder to express to children that this season is about giving and sharing what we can in the best way that we can," she said, "and sometimes the exact gift is not available." Encouraging such an attitude can be a tall order, Frates said, but it's a place to start. "A simple mindset shift could be the difference between a stressful holiday shopping season or a joyful journey to find meaningful gifts for people you care about." Khan has been behind bars for more than a year and has over 150 criminal cases against him. But he remains popular and his political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf or PTI, says the cases are politically motivated. Shahid Nawaz, a security officer in eastern Punjab province, said police have arrested more than 4,000 Khan supporters. They include five parliamentarians. Pakistan has sealed off Islamabad with shipping containers and shut down major roads and highways connecting the city with PTI strongholds in Punjab and northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. Tit-for-tat teargas shelling between the police and the PTI was reported on the highway bordering Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Earlier on Sunday, Pakistan suspended mobile and internet services “in areas with security concerns.” The government and Interior Ministry posted the announcement on the social media platform X, which is banned in Pakistan. They did not specify the areas, nor did they say how long the suspension would be in place. “Internet and mobile services will continue to operate as usual in the rest of the country,” the posts said. Meanwhile, telecom company Nayatel sent out emails offering customers “a reliable landline service” as a workaround in the areas suffering suspended cellphone service. Khan's supporters rely heavily on social media to demand his release and use messaging platforms like WhatsApp to share information, including details of events. PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram said Khan's wife Bushra Bibi was traveling to Islamabad in a convoy led by the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur. “She cannot leave the party workers on their own,” said Akram. There was a festive mood in Peshawar, with PTI members dancing, drumming and holding up pictures of Khan as cars set off for Islamabad. The government is imposing social media platform bans and targeting VPN services , according to internet advocacy group Netblocks. On Sunday, the group said live metrics showed problems with WhatsApp that were affecting media sharing on the app. The U.S. Embassy issued a security alert for Americans in the capital, encouraging them to avoid large gatherings and warning that even “peaceful gatherings can turn violent.” Last month, authorities suspended the cellphone service in Islamabad and Rawalpindi to thwart a pro-Khan rally. The shutdown disrupted communications and affected everyday services such as banking, ride-hailing and food delivery. The latest crackdown comes on the eve of a visit by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko . Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said authorities have sealed off Islamabad's Red Zone, which houses key government buildings and is the destination for Khan's supporters. “Anyone reaching it will be arrested,” Naqvi told a press conference. He said the security measures were in place to protect residents and property, blaming the PTI for inconveniencing people and businesses. He added that protesters were planning to take the same route as the Belarusian delegation, but that the government had headed off this scenario. Naqvi denied cellphone services were suspended and said only mobile data was affected. Associated Press writers Riaz Khan in Peshawar and Asim Tanveer in Multan contributed to this report.50 jili casino

WASHINGTON — Republican senators were shocked last week when President-elect Donald Trump announced Matt Gaetz would be his nominee for attorney general. Republicans seemed far less shocked Thursday by news Gaetz had withdrawn himself from consideration. Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) said he was “grateful” because the Senate could move on. And Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) said he was not surprised. “I think the decision to withdraw the nomination is the right decision,” Rounds told reporters. “I thought it was problematic, and I think, as some of our members have expressed, as they’ve learned more about it, there was perhaps some information out there that the president was not aware of when he made the original recommendation.” Even before Trump chose Gaetz, it was widely known the then-congressman had been under investigation by the Justice Department for alleged sex trafficking in a case involving a 17-year-old. The department didn’t press charges, but the House Ethics Committee was still investigating the matter until Gaetz resigned from Congress last week. After Trump said he wanted Gaetz as his top cop, further details leaked. On Thursday, CNN reported that Gaetz was accused of having not just one, but two sexual encounters with the 17-year-old. Several Republicans publicly questioned the nomination, and several more reported privately they would vote against Gaetz and that he had little chance of being confirmed by the Senate. Gaetz was going to fail in a floor vote, withdraw himself from consideration, or else Trump would have to bypass Congress, triggering a constitutional crisis , to install Gaetz at the top of the Justice Department. Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) said that with Gaetz dropping out, the process “played out faster than we thought.” Part of the process included Gaetz making the rounds on Capitol Hill, meeting with senators in an effort to win them over. Sen. Thom Tillis (R-S.C.) met with Gaetz on Wednesday and suggested he might have seen the writing on the wall. “I had several discussions with him. He’s very methodical, and I think he was going through a process himself,” Tillis told HuffPost. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) said perhaps Gaetz “came up here and just didn’t get a good feel to get confirmed.” As he made his way among offices on Wednesday, Gaetz told reporters his meetings were going great. “Senators have been giving me a lot of good advice,” Gaetz said. The long odds facing Gaetz’s nomination set off speculation that Trump would try to circumvent the Senate and staff his administration with an unprecedented slate of recess appointments, triggering a major court battle over the separation of powers between the presidency and Congress. Republicans told HuffPost this week they didn’t much like the prospect of recess appointments . Not everyone was relieved by Gaetz dropping out. Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), an outspoken Trump ally, told HuffPost he felt “disappointed.” Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), who said last week Gaetz was not “a serious nomination,” indicated Thursday she was pleased. “I think it was the right decision,” she said. Gaetz was one of the least-liked members of Congress. Many House Republicans revile the former Florida congressman for his leading role in the ouster of former Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) from the speaker’s office. Don't let this be the end of the free press. The free press is under attack — and America's future hangs in the balance. NoneA teen was shocked to receive his first Christmas gift from a youth homeless charity after struggling with a difficult home life. James came into contact with the Quarriers just before after being forced to rely on temporary accommodations and sleeping on friends couches because "home wasn’t a good place”. After moving into his own flat he faced spending the festive season alone. The 16-year-old, like many youngsters from a difficult background, had missed out on many of life’s most basic joys due to poverty and family instability. One of those joys the charity was able to give him, was his first Christmas gift. Julia Cringean, Project Manager for Quarriers Youth Housing Support Services said: “When we told him we had a present for him, he was visibly shocked "He said: ‘I’ve never had a gift at Christmas'. Knowing that he was finally included, that someone cared enough to make his Christmas special, meant the world to him.” “Homelessness is horrendous at any time. But for a young person, especially at Christmas, it can feel unbearable. “Many of the young people we support don’t have a stable family to rely on. At Christmas, that missing family support is felt even more deeply. We want to make Christmas as nice as it possibly can be for them. They need essentials - and they need to feel included in the festive season.” The Quarriers have now launched their Christmas Appeal to provide a special gift for every young person it supports who is experiencing homelessness. They are calling for Glaswegians to give the gift of Christmas this year and provide dignity and practical support to a young person going through difficult times. Quarriers Youth Homeless Services, five of which are based in Glasgow city centre, provides support to young people, including those leaving care or at risk of homelessness. The service aims to provide a person-centred, holistic and multi-disciplinary approach to enable young people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless to access appropriate advice/guidance; access and sustain temporary or permanent accommodation safely; improve their quality of life; and be socially included. Julia continued: “Poverty and homelessness rob young people of a fair start in life, impacting everything from their education to their mental health. Our Christmas Appeal is one way we can bring hope to these young lives, offering gifts that are symbols of care and belonging.” To learn more click

"A simple mindset shift could be the difference between a stressful holiday shopping season or a joyful journey to find meaningful gifts for people you care about." U.S. regulators want a federal judge to break up Google to prevent the company from continuing to squash competition through its dominant search engine after a court found it had maintained an abusive monopoly over the past decade. The proposed breakup floated in a 23-page document filed late Wednesday by the U.S. Department of Justice calls for sweeping punishments that would include a sale of Google’s industry-leading Chrome web browser and impose restrictions to prevent Android from favoring its own search engine. A sale of Chrome “will permanently stop Google’s control of this critical search access point and allow rival search engines the ability to access the browser that for many users is a gateway to the internet,” Justice Department lawyers argued in their filing. Although regulators stopped short of demanding Google sell Android too, they asserted the judge should make it clear the company could still be required to divest its smartphone operating system if its oversight committee continues to see evidence of misconduct. The broad scope of the recommended penalties underscores how severely regulators operating under President Joe Biden’s administration believe Google should be punished following an August ruling by U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta that branded the company as a monopolist. The Justice Department decision-makers who will inherit the case after President-elect Donald Trump takes office next year might not be as strident. The Washington, D.C. court hearings on Google’s punishment are scheduled to begin in April and Mehta is aiming to issue his final decision before Labor Day. If Mehta embraces the government’s recommendations, Google would be forced to sell its 16-year-old Chrome browser within six months of the final ruling. But the company certainly would appeal any punishment, potentially prolonging a legal tussle that has dragged on for more than four years. Besides seeking a Chrome spinoff and a corralling of the Android software, the Justice Department wants the judge to ban Google from forging multibillion-dollar deals to lock in its dominant search engine as the default option on Apple’s iPhone and other devices. It would also ban Google from favoring its own services, such as YouTube or its recently-launched artificial intelligence platform, Gemini. Regulators also want Google to license the search index data it collects from people’s queries to its rivals, giving them a better chance at competing with the tech giant. On the commercial side of its search engine, Google would be required to provide more transparency into how it sets the prices that advertisers pay to be listed near the top of some targeted search results. Kent Walker, Google’s chief legal officer, lashed out at the Justice Department for pursuing “a radical interventionist agenda that would harm Americans and America’s global technology.” In a blog post, Walker warned the “overly broad proposal” would threaten personal privacy while undermining Google’s early leadership in artificial intelligence, “perhaps the most important innovation of our time.” Wary of Google’s increasing use of artificial intelligence in its search results, regulators also advised Mehta to ensure websites will be able to shield their content from Google’s AI training techniques. The measures, if they are ordered, threaten to upend a business expected to generate more than $300 billion in revenue this year. “The playing field is not level because of Google’s conduct, and Google’s quality reflects the ill-gotten gains of an advantage illegally acquired,” the Justice Department asserted in its recommendations. “The remedy must close this gap and deprive Google of these advantages.” It’s still possible that the Justice Department could ease off attempts to break up Google, especially if Trump takes the widely expected step of replacing Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Kanter, who was appointed by Biden to oversee the agency’s antitrust division. Although the case targeting Google was originally filed during the final months of Trump’s first term in office, Kanter oversaw the high-profile trial that culminated in Mehta’s ruling against Google. Working in tandem with Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan, Kanter took a get-tough stance against Big Tech that triggered other attempted crackdowns on industry powerhouses such as Apple and discouraged many business deals from getting done during the past four years. Trump recently expressed concerns that a breakup might destroy Google but didn’t elaborate on alternative penalties he might have in mind. “What you can do without breaking it up is make sure it’s more fair,” Trump said last month. Matt Gaetz, the former Republican congressman that Trump nominated to be the next U.S. Attorney General, has previously called for the breakup of Big Tech companies. Gaetz faces a tough confirmation hearing. This latest filing gave Kanter and his team a final chance to spell out measures that they believe are needed to restore competition in search. It comes six weeks after Justice first floated the idea of a breakup in a preliminary outline of potential penalties. But Kanter’s proposal is already raising questions about whether regulators seek to impose controls that extend beyond the issues covered in last year’s trial, and — by extension — Mehta’s ruling. Banning the default search deals that Google now pays more than $26 billion annually to maintain was one of the main practices that troubled Mehta in his ruling. It’s less clear whether the judge will embrace the Justice Department’s contention that Chrome needs to be spun out of Google, and the recommendation that Android should be completely walled off from the company’s own search engine. “It is probably going a little beyond,” Syracuse University law professor Shubha Ghosh said of the Chrome breakup. “The remedies should match the harm, it should match the transgression. This does seem a little beyond that pale.” Google rival DuckDuckGo, whose executives testified during last year’s trial, asserted the Justice Department is simply doing what needs to be done to rein in a brazen monopolist. “Undoing Google’s overlapping and widespread illegal conduct over more than a decade requires more than contract restrictions: it requires a range of remedies to create enduring competition,” Kamyl Bazbaz, DuckDuckGo’s senior vice president of public affairs, said in a statement. Trying to break up Google harks back to a similar punishment initially imposed on Microsoft a quarter century ago following another major antitrust trial that culminated in a federal judge deciding the software maker had illegally used his Windows operating system for PCs to stifle competition. However, an appeals court overturned an order that would have broken up Microsoft, a precedent many experts believe will make Mehta reluctant to go down a similar road with the Google case. Walters wants Govt to be ‘realistic’City at least avoided a sixth consecutive defeat but the manner in which they blew a commanding advantage will do little to settle nerves in and around the club ahead of Sunday’s trip to Premier League leaders Liverpool. City appeared in total control after a brace from Erling Haaland and another from Ilkay Gundogan had them three up seven minutes into the second half, but after Anis Hadj Moussa got one back in the 75th minute, City imploded. “It is what it is, difficult to swallow right now,” Guardiola said. “The game was good, we played well, we scored three and could have scored more. We do everything and then we give away, especially the first one, and after we are not stable enough to do it. “It’s not about no run or no commitment, but football you have to be [switched on] in certain moments to do it.” Santiago Gimenez got Feyenoord’s second in the 82nd minute and David Hancko got a dramatic equaliser in the 89th, making City the first team in Champions League history to have led 3-0 in the 75th minute of a match and fail to win. Some City fans, who suffered through Saturday’s 4-0 humiliation at home to Tottenham, made their frustrations known at the final whistle. “The last game against Tottenham, 0-4, the supporters were there, applause,” he said. “They are disappointed of course and we understand it. “People come here not to remember success of the past, they come here to see the team win and perform well. I am not the one when the situation is bad or good [to say] what they have to do. “These supporters, when we go away, our fans are amazing, travelling. There is nothing to do and they are right to express what they feel.” Guardiola’s own frustrations were apparent given the number of scratches visible on his head after the match. The Catalan had arrived at the ground with a cut on his nose, which he said he had caused himself with a long fingernail. City now face a trip to Anfield to face the Liverpool side of former Feyenoord boss Arne Slot, whose named was chanted by the visiting fans during the match. “Everybody knows the situation, I don’t have to add absolutely anything,” Guardiola said. “We are going to train tomorrow, recovery and prepare the next game. Day off and we have two or three days to prepare that and go for it. We will learn for the future and what has been has been. “It will be a tough season for us and we have to accept it for many circumstances.” Feyenoord’s late fightback brought jubilant scenes in the away end. “I think if you’re from Feyenoord it was an unbelievable evening,” head coach Brian Priske said. “A strange game which ends 3-3 which is an unbelievable result for us and also remarkable in the essence of being 3-0 down in minute 75 away from home against still, for me, the best team in the world. “Normally we don’t celebrate draws but this one is a little bit special.”

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks climbed Thursday after market superstar Nvidia and another round of companies said they’re making even fatter profits than expected. The S&P 500 pulled 0.5% higher after flipping between gains and losses several times during the day. Banks, smaller companies and other areas of the stock market that tend to do best when the economy is strong helped lead the way, while bitcoin briefly broke above $99,000. Crude oil, meanwhile, continued to rise. The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 461 points, or 1.1%, and the Nasdaq composite edged up by less than 0.1%. Nvidia rose just 0.5% after beating analysts’ estimates for profit and revenue yet again, but it was still the strongest force pulling the S&P 500 upward. It also gave a forecast for revenue in the current quarter that topped most analysts’ expectations due to voracious demand for its chips used in artificial-intelligence technology. Its stock initially sank in afterhours trading Wednesday following the release of the results. Some investors said the market might have been looking for Nvidia’s revenue forecast to surpass expectations by even more. But its stock recovered in premarket trading Thursday, and Wedbush analyst Dan Ives said it was another “flawless” profit report provided by Nvidia and CEO Jensen Huang, whom Ives calls “the Godfather of AI.” The stock meandered through Thursday as well, dragging the S&P 500 and other indexes back and forth. How Nvidia’s stock performs has more impact than any other because it’s grown into Wall Street’s most valuable company at roughly $3.6 trillion. The frenzy around AI is sweeping up other stocks, and Snowflake jumped 32.7% after reporting stronger results for the latest quarter than analysts expected. The company, whose platform helps customers get a better view of all their silos of data and use AI, also reported stronger revenue growth than expected. BJ’S Wholesale Club rose 8.3% after likewise delivering a bigger profit than expected. That may help calm worries about how resilient U.S. shoppers can remain, given high prices across the economy and still-high interest rates. A day earlier, Target tumbled after reporting sluggish sales in the latest quarter and giving a dour forecast for the holiday shopping season. It followed Walmart , which gave a much more encouraging outlook. Nearly 90% of the stocks in the S&P 500 ended up rising Thursday, and the gains were even bigger among smaller companies. The Russell 2000 index of smaller stocks jumped a market-leading 1.7%. Google’s parent company, Alphabet, helped keep indexes in check. It fell 4.7% after U.S. regulators asked a judge to break up the tech giant by forcing it to sell its industry-leading Chrome web browser. In a 23-page document filed late Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Justice called for sweeping punishments that would include restrictions preventing Android from favoring its own search engine. Regulators stopped short of demanding Google sell Android but left the door open to it if the company’s oversight committee continues to see evidence of misconduct. All told, the S&P 500 rose 31.60 points to 5,948.71. The Dow jumped 461.88 to 43,870.35, and the Nasdaq composite added 6.28 to 18,972.42. In the crypto market, bitcoin eclipsed $99,000 for the first time before pulling back toward $98,000, according to CoinDesk. It’s more than doubled so far this year, and its climb has accelerated since Election Day. President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to make the country “the crypto capital of the planet” and create a “strategic reserve” of bitcoin. Bitcoin got a further boost after Gary Gensler, the chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission, said Thursday he would step down in January . Gensler has pushed for more protections for crypto investors. Bitcoin and related investment have a notorious history of big price swings in both directions. MicroStrategy, a company that’s been raising cash expressly to buy bitcoin, saw an early Thursday gain of 14.6% for its stock quickly disappear. It finished the day with a loss of 16.2%. In the oil market, a barrel of benchmark U.S. crude rose 2% to bring its gain for the week to 4.8%. Brent crude, the international standard, climbed 1.8%. Oil has been rising amid escalations in the Russia-Ukraine war. In stock markets abroad, shares of India’s Adani Enterprises plunged 22.6% Thursday after the U.S. charged founder Gautam Adani in a federal indictment with securities fraud and conspiracy to commit securities and wire fraud. The businessman and one of the world’s richest people is accused of concealing that his company’s huge solar energy project on the subcontinent was being facilitated by an alleged bribery scheme. Stock indexes elsewhere in Asia and Europe were mixed. In the bond market, the yield on the 10-year Treasury inched up to 4.43% from 4.41% late Wednesday following some mixed reports on the U.S. economy. One said fewer U.S. workers applied for unemployment benefits last week in the latest signal that the job market remains solid. Another report, though, said manufacturing in the mid-Atlantic region unexpectedly shrank. Sales of previously occupied homes, meanwhile, strengthened last month by more than expected. AP Business Writers Matt Ott and Yuri Kageyama contributed.

And what a face it is. It’s like The CW used an AI lab to create a leading man made of the best parts of Glen Powell , Ryan Eggold , and a young Clint Eastwood . It’s insulting really, how he just walks around with that thing out in the open, making the rest of us normies look like something out of Middle Earth. Thankfully, Walker is one of the authentically good ones. Humble, engaging, totally Canadian, and a dang workhorse. The Montreal-born actor-producer has shot six movies for Hallmark this year, including Countdown to Christmas’s Jingle Bell Run and Three Wiser Men and a Boy ! On top of that, he’s also a husband, father of two sons, and an entrepreneur, having co-founded the SkinMason skincare line ... which is clearly working, since there are zero signs of fatigue on his matinee-idol mug. “Obviously I use skincare on a daily basis, and when I wrap from set, I’m always washing my face off,” he explains of the inspiration behind SkinMason. “I have used very abrasive products that have given me skin [issues], I’ve broken out, I’ve had rashes. I used to have these little alcohol wipes to take the rest of my makeup off.” During a dinner with his friend Dr. Hussein Kanji, a heart and lung surgeon who’s “always working with different types of products for [organ] detoxification and antioxidants,” the two agreed to partner on a product line. SkinMason “He had an idea for a very simple yet effective skincare brand, ideally targeted to men to start with, because the women’s space is so massive...but women and men can use the same skincare,” Walker continues. “And I said I’d love to venture into this, first off, because my wife [Cassandra] always scolded me for using way too much of her expensive skincare products—I don’t know what to use! It’s like, there’s so many products out there.” Two years later, Walker and Kanji had the first two core products of the line, exfoliating wipes and a serum, which were soon followed by their new moisturizer. “We don’t even call it a moisturizer. It’s a bioactive cream.” Noting that Jean Carruthers, the co-innovator of Botox, has endorsed all of their products, Walker explains that their formula boasts retinoid, Vitamins C, and phospholipids that rebuild collagen. The SkinMason site is having a 40 percent off Black Friday sale and you can order each item individually or as a set, with a VIP subscription for regular refill orders at a 10 percent discount. Better yet, he laughs, “My wife has now turned on to using my products!” Andrew Walker / Instagram Speaking of his wife, how do the Walkers plan to spend the holidays? “With family,” he immediately offers. “We moved up to Vancouver for a year and it’s been amazing. It’s been quiet because we live next to a forest. So the holidays this year are just going to be family and trying to take a moment to put away the phones, put away technology, and just focus my time on my kids and my wife and each other.” Now that is a good look for everyone. BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — If you're caught driving past a school bus with its stop arm out in the City of Buffalo, it's going to cost you between $250 and $300. This is because the city started enforcing its School Bus Stop Arm Camera Program about two months ago. "The program has let us realize that we do have vehicles that pass school buses every day when a school bus is out on the road." said Octavio Villegas, Executive Director of the Buffalo Traffic Violation Agency. Since the program began on October 1, there have been 16,550 "events" where a vehicle has been caught on camera passing a school bus as it activates its stop signals. Nearly 10,000 of these events have been reviewed so far. "Unfortunately, we're still seeing folks ignoring the yellow lights, and so when they are going by those school buses, it's not only going from yellow to red, but the stop arm is coming out," Villegas said. If you are caught passing a school bus with the stop arm extended, AI technology notifies Bus Patrol, the company providing the cameras on each school bus. That information is then sent to the City of Buffalo, which determines whether or not a ticket will be issued. "We are confirming that a vehicle passed the school bus when it was in the process of picking up and dropping off a student," he said. Despite the cameras, some drivers have shared concerns that they were caught when the bus's yellow lights were flashing, only to have it switch to red too quickly. I asked Villegas about this concern. "I just really focus on explaining to the motorists. When you see the school bus and those lights turn yellow, that's an indicator that you should start slowing down because that bus is trying to signal to you it will come to a stop." If you receive a ticket and believe it was issued in error, Villegas said you can contest it when you get the letter in the mail. "Also, on the bottom, we have a section to fill out if you want to contest your matter," he said. But the bottom line is, that he hopes the program can help prevent people from driving past a stopped school bus. "I feel we could just stop and wait an extra 30 seconds. It really would not take away from your day. It will help keep students safe coming up and off the bus," Villegas said.

History is full of inventive, albeit disturbing, methods of making people squirm, confess, or simply regret their life choices. Among these is the lesser-known but utterly bizarre practice of ‘goat’s tongue torture’. While not as famous as the rack or the iron maiden, this method earns its place in the macabre hall of fame for its simplicity and grotesque effectiveness. A Progressive Torture Goat’s tongue torture wasn’t about slicing or dicing—it was about licking. Yes, licking. Here’s how it worked: the victim’s feet were tied, and the soles were coated with a layer of salt. Enter the star of the show, the goat. Known for their insatiable appetite and surprisingly rough tongues, goats were encouraged to lick the salty soles of the victim’s feet. At first, this may have seemed amusing or even ticklish to the poor soul tied up. After all, what’s the harm in a little goat affection? But as the licking persisted, the sensation quickly turned from ticklish to torturous. The goat’s tongue, rough like sandpaper, would begin to scrape away the skin, leaving the sensitive tissue underneath raw and exposed. Pain replaced laughter, and the torture grew unbearable. Historical references to this practice are scant, but accounts suggest it may have been used in medieval Europe and parts of the Middle East. It is described in the 1502 Tractatus de indiciis et tortura by the Italian jurist and monk Franciscus Brunus de San Severino – a treatise that actually cautioned against torture in general. It is unclear if the reference here is to an actual witnessed event or just hearsay. Italian lawyer Ippolito De'Marsili included the goat's tongue in a list of possible torture techniques which was published in 1537. The method was mentioned in 1115 by Guibert de Nogent in his Monodies , with translator Jay Rubenstein noting that the torture developed in the Roman Empire . The psychological aspect was equally devastating—imagine being reduced to tears by something as harmless as a goat! Despite its grotesque nature, goat’s tongue torture offers a fascinating glimpse into the ingenuity and cruelty of historical punishment methods. It also reminds us that even the most innocent-seeming creatures can play a part in humanity’s darker moments. Next time you’re at a petting zoo and see a goat, perhaps give it a wide berth. Behind those curious eyes lies the legacy of an unexpected torturer. And if you value your feet, maybe skip the salted snacks altogether! Top image: Goat’s face with tongue out, ready to torture!
