Against the spread: Buccaneers 8-5; Chargers 9-4. Series record: Chargers lead 8-4. Last meeting: Chargers beat Buccaneers 38-31 in Tampa, Fla., on Oct. 4, 2020. Last week: Buccaneers beat Las Vegas 28-13; Chargers lost to Kansas City 19-17. Buccaneers offense: overall (3), rush (8), pass (6), scoring (5). Chargers defense: overall (11), rush (T-14), pass (8), scoring (1). Turnover differential: Buccaneers minus-2; Chargers plus-11. QB Baker Mayfield is trying to lead Tampa Bay to a fourth consecutive NFC South title. He’s already matched a career-best for touchdown passes with 28, but also hasn’t done as good a job of taking care of the football as a year ago. He threw for 295 yards and three TDs in last week’s 15-point win over Las Vegas. He also turned the ball over three times in the first half to help the Raiders stay close until the fourth quarter. Story continues below video WR Quentin Johnston bounced back from a couple of tough performances to make five catches for 48 yards and a touchdown against the Chiefs. But inconsistency has been the defining trait of the slow start to Johnston’s NFL career, so being able to follow it up will be telling. The Chargers needed the 2023 first-round pick to step up with rookie Ladd McConkey sidelined because of knee and shoulder injuries last week. With McConkey's status to play Sunday uncertain, Johnston could be called on again. Chargers RB Kimani Vidal vs. Buccaneers LB Lavonte David. Vidal, a rookie from Troy, seems to have increased his standing in the Chargers’ backfield that definitely missed J.K. Dobbins (knee). Vidal had eight carries for 34 yards while playing 53% of the offensive snaps in Kansas City, more than starter Gus Edwards. The Chargers are going to stick to the run under coach Jim Harbaugh, which means the newcomer Vidal will have to outfox a 13-season veteran in David. At 34, David remains a force, making seven tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss and recovering a fumble against the Raiders. He is eight tackles away from his 11th season of triple-digit stops. Bucs S Antoine Winfield Jr. left last week’s game with a knee sprain and is expected to be sidelined a couple of weeks. S Mike Edwards (hamstring), OLB Markees Watts (knee), LB K.J. Britt (ankle) and WR Kameron Johnson (ankle) will also miss Sunday's game. Leading rusher Bucky Irving has a back injury and is listed as questionable. ... Chargers QB Justin Herbert is dealing with a sprained left ankle, but was a full participant in practice Friday. TE Will Dissly (shoulder) and WR Jalen Reagor (finger) are out. While the Chargers won eight of the first nine meetings between the franchises, Tampa Bay took the past three. ... This will be the Buccaneers’ third trip to Los Angeles and second to SoFi Stadium, where they lost 34-24 to the Rams in September 2021. The Bucs are 7-1 in December/January regular-season games going back to last season. They’re 19-5 in those games going back to 2020, the first of Tom Brady’s three years with Tampa Bay. ... WR Mike Evans needs 17 receptions and 426 yards over the next four games to finish with his 11th consecutive season with at least 60 catches and 1,000 yards receiving. ... Evans had seven receptions for 122 yards and a TD the previous time Tampa Bay faced the Chargers (Oct. 4, 2020). ... The Bucs have rushed for 100-plus yards in 10 of 13 games. That’s after doing it just nine times over 34 games the past two regular seasons. ... With leading rusher Bucky Irving sitting out most of last week’s game against Las Vegas with a back injury, starter Rachaad White took up the slack with 90 yards rushing on 17 attempts — both season highs. He also scored two TDs, one receiving. ... White’s rushing TD was the 14th for Tampa Bay. That’s more than the Bucs scored on the ground in 2022 (five) and 2023 (eight) combined. ... The Chargers have turned the ball over a league-low six times. The franchise record for fewest giveaways in a season is 15, which they did in 2006 and 2017. ... Herbert hasn’t thrown an interception in 11 straight games. That is tied with Brady for the longest streak in NFL history. Brady closed out the 2010 regular season for New England without being picked off after Week 5. ... S Derwin James Jr. has three tackles for loss and two sacks in his past three games. ... PK Cameron Dicker has made 65 of 66 field goals under 50 yards in his career, with his 98.5% success rate the best in league history. Dicker has made all 30 attempts inside of 50 yards at home. ... The Chargers defense allowed 17 of 31 third down conversions (54.8%) in two games against the Chiefs. They have held their other 11 opponents to 45 of 146 (30.8%). The Buccaneers find ways to play shootouts, with eight of their games seeing the winner score 30 or more points. The Chargers find ways to play grinding affairs, with only two of their games seeing the winner score 28 or more points. Whoever dictates the style of play will determine how much fantasy value comes out of this game. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFL

The Royal Forest Department has bought locally-made weapons from the Ministry of Defence, saying it was the first time the department has obtained modern submachine guns for the protection of over 32 million rai of the country's forest zone. The department and the Defence Industry and Energy Centre last week held a handover ceremony of 20 NIN9 submachine guns. The weapon was designed and developed by the centre under the government's policy on strengthening the domestic weapons industry for self-reliance in defence weapons development. Bannarak Sermthong, the department's deputy chief, said 408 forest protection units were created nationwide to protect and preserve the forest areas from encroachment and illegal logging. However, their limited stock of weapons and old equipment have posed problems, Mr Bannarak said. "If these new NIN9 guns prove a good fit for our operation, we will ask the cabinet for a budget for more purchases," he said. He said the department decided to go with the NIN9s because of their light weight and durability. The guns are also resistant to heavy rainfall and dust, which makes them perfectly suited for forest patrol operations, he said. He said the price is around 95,000 baht per unit, cheaper than imported weapons which cost around 120,000 per unit. The Defence Industry and Energy Centre Commander Lt Gen Pawarit Panthong said the move is a significant step to support the domestic arms industry and the department's mission to protect and preserve the forest. The centre would train the department's forest patrol team on how to use and maintain the weapon properly, said Lt Gen Pawarit.Cubs acquire All-Star outfielder Kyle Tucker in trade with the Astros

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Kyler Murray was driving to the Arizona Cardinals' practice facility Wednesday when he realized that it had been almost exactly two years since he tore the ACL in his right knee in a game against the New England Patriots. Then another thought crossed his mind: It was the Patriots who were coming to town this Sunday for the first time since the injury. “Yeah, it’s a little weird,” Murray said with a wry grin. "I will try not to have that happen again.” The injury on Dec. 12, 2022, cost Murray roughly 11 months of his career, but he has been healthy this season. And now the Cardinals (6-7) are clinging to playoff hopes when they host the Patriots (3-10) on Sunday. Both teams have lost three straight games. The Patriots are coming off their bye week and haven't played since a 25-24 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Dec. 1. The Cardinals are trying to move past a brutal 30-18 loss to NFC West rival Seattle which knocked them into a tie for last place in the tightly packed division. Murray is coming off one of his worst games since the injury, throwing two interceptions that each eventually lead to touchdowns for Seattle. It was a rare blemish on an otherwise solid season — he has thrown for 2,862 yards, 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Now the Cardinals are pretty much in must-win territory. “For us, all we can do is control what we can control and that’s this weekend,” Murray said. "Today, tomorrow, go out there on Sunday and play good football.” The Cardinals' defense needs a better performance after giving up 409 total yards to Seattle last week, including 176 yards on the ground. Tightening against the run game is particularly important against New England's rookie quarterback Drake Maye, who's averaging 9.1 yards per rush on 38 attempts. The highest rushing average for an NFL quarterback in a single season is 8.5 by Michael Vick in 2006, when he had 123 rushing attempts for 1,039 yards with Atlanta. Maye's far from one-dimensional. He has thrown for at least 220 yards in each of the past three games, improving rapidly. The Patriots took Maye with the No. 3 overall pick out of North Carolina. “Yeah, I think he’s grown since he’s been playing,” coach Jonathan Gannon said. “I think he’s playing probably his best ball right now, probably just because of the experience. So definitely his skillset jumps out. You can see why he was taken so high. He’s a good player and he is ascending.” New England offensive lineman Cole Strange has a new haircut and could make his season debut, possibly at a new position. Strange, who usually sports curly locks, returned from the Patriots’ bye week with a buzz cut. It could coincide with a possible switch to center after he was activated this week, making him eligible to see his first game action since suffering a season-ending knee injury in 2023. A 2022 first-round pick, Strange started 10 games at left guard last season before being placed on injured reserve. Strange has been working at both left guard and center since he returned to practice Nov. 20 and could see his first NFL snaps at the latter position. Longtime Patriots center David Andrews had season-ending shoulder surgery in October. Ben Brown has started the last eight games at center. Murray said the Cardinals can't take the Patriots lightly despite their mediocre record. He compared New England to where Arizona was at last season, when the team was out of the playoff race but playing some good football down the stretch. Murray was particularly complimentary of Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez, saying he was a “big fan.” Both players are Texas natives. “We were kind of in a similar situation as them, then went on the road to Pittsburgh, Philly and (won),” Murray said. "They’re going to come in here and play hard. We understand that and we have to be ready to go.” The Patriots have already been eliminated from playoff contention, but it didn’t stop Maye from spending part of his bye week watching matchups between teams that are still jockeying for postseason position. The reason? He wanted to get a glimpse — even if from afar — of the common traits of the teams still playing meaningful games at this time of the season. “Especially when you haven’t felt it,” Maye said. “I haven’t really experienced a playoff game. You always hear about what it’s been in the past here at the playoff games and the environment here in Gillette ... and watching Tom (Brady) and those guys duke it out. Those runs they had were special. I think you want that feeling and those guys in the locker room, some of them had it. A lot of us young guys haven’t.” Maye hopes it serves as motivation going forward. “I think we’re striving for that and can use these last four games as a challenge and as a step to, ‘Hey, what we have and what we got here on this team and who can help us and who can make some plays?’” he said. BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Deshawn Purdie threw a 47-yard touchdown pass to O'Mega Blake for the go-ahead score and Charlotte defeated Florida Atlantic 39-27 on Saturday in a game that matched two new interim coaches. Charlotte (4-7, 3-4 American Athletic Conference) fired Biff Poggi on Monday and Tim Brewster took over. FAU (2-9, 0-7) fired Tom Ferman, also on Monday, with Chad Lunsford taking charge. After Blake's third touchdown catch of the game that came with 5:25 left, the 49ers extended their lead when Tyriq Starks was strip-sacked by Ja'Qurious Conley and 335-pound Katron Kevans carried it 22 yards into the end zone. Blake made five catches for a career-high 205 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown. Purdie was 16 of 30 for a career-best 396 yards passing with the three scores plus an interception. The 49ers only rushed for 46 yards. Stephen Rusnak kicked four field goals. Starks was 12-of-23 passing for 179 yards including a 65-yard score to Omari Hayes in the final minute of the third quarter to get FAU within six of the 49ers. CJ Campbell rushed 58 yards to score early in the fourth quarter and the Owls had a 27-26 lead. Campbell finished with 150 yards on 21 carries. ___ AP college football: and . The tête-à-tête was over a grudge Conway has held for many years against McCain, for describing her and her then-husband George Conway as “gross” during TV appearances on and Conway confronted McCain after the two appeared together on a panel at post-election Global Women’s Summit. The event was organized by , the founder of the Daily Beast. After the on-stage panel discussion about the effect of the election on women ended, Conway confronted McCain in the green room just off stage in a scene “like something from the ,” an eyewitness told the Beast. “Kellyanne walked up to Meghan and said, ‘I wasn’t going to say this while I was miked but do you remember what you said about me and my marriage on ?‘“ the witness said. ”You called my marriage ‘gross.’“ Conway and McCain had not directly debated each other on the panel, adding to the surprise for witnesses that there was a confrontation, though Conway had appeared at times combative towards the moderator and audience, some witnesses said. Conway was heard saying to McCain, “Do you realize what you said and what you did? Do you realize all the people you hurt?” McCain, who quit in 2021 and is now a podcaster, appeared shaken over the confrontation, which lasted a matter of minutes, and keen to leave. Friends said she was later “shaking” with emotion. “I heard Meghan say to her, ‘I don’t remember what I said that hurt you,‘“ the witness said. McCain apologized to Conway, the witness said. “Meghan said it was making her uncomfortable but that seemed to make it worse.” McCain, 40, walked away from Conway, 57, who appeared unfazed. The witness said, “Meghan looked shaken and was just trying to get out of there.” The political divisions and tension within Conway’s family played out publicly, especially on social media, during Trump’s first presidency. While Conway was in the Oval Office advising Trump as counselor to the president, her husband George and eldest daughter Claudia were nearly incessantly tweeting and TikToking their dissent. At one point, Claudia said she wanted to from her mother, while her father did just that: he of 22 years with whom he shares four children in 2023. Claudia, now 20, and her mother have reconciled personally although they remain politically at odds. Conway told the Daily Beast, “I waited until the cameras and microphones were off to privately and calmly address the very public insults she has directed at my family.” Conway added, “She may wish to outrun her recent past as a years-long resident Mean Girl on The View and Bravo, where her mouth was a spigot of vile and bile hurled toward people and topics she does not know, including my marriage and children, and casually lying about silly things like me calling her (I don’t have her number).” McCain said, “It was a bizarre experience and certainly not what I expected when I accepted an invitation to speak at an event hosted by the Washington Post and Tina Brown. The only reason why their marriage was ever a hot topic was because they were constantly airing their dirty laundry to America.” The Beast established that Conway’s feelings were rooted in comments on multiple episodes of in 2018 and in April 2020 on NBC’s , when she called both of the Conways “gross” and claimed that Conway would call her every time she mentioned her on air. In the 2020 segment, host Andy Cohen asked McCain, who has appeared on the show dozens of times, and fellow guest Erika Jayne, a cast member of the to identify whether quotes were from “a president or a [Real] Housewife,” then had his guest, Rep. (D-CA) read the clue: “She is married to a total whack job. She must have done a number on him. I don’t know what he did to that guy.” McCain correctly identified it as having been said by . Cohen then asked what she thought about the couple, who had become a fixture of political coverage for their directly opposed views on Trump almost at the start of his administration. That prompted McCain to say, “I think it’s awful and I think that they have four kids that are gonna read this c--p and I think it’s awful. I think it’s weird and I don’t care if it’s their kink or whatever I think it’s horrible... I think they’re both gross.” She added, “Wait can I say one more thing. Don’t call me or email me Kellyanne. She does that every time I say something.” Conway called that claim a “lie” in her 2022 memoir, , writing that she had never called McCain and did not even have her number. She wrote that they had only once exchanged emails, which was a “friendly” invitation from McCain to join and have dinner with both their husbands. In the book Conway called McCain a “know it all”; accused her of “ad nauseam, ad hominem attacks on me”; suggested she had “cashed in” on her father’s two failed presidential runs; and relayed a conversation with McCain’s husband Ben Domenech in which he said of his wife’s then-role, “ is the worst show on television.” Conway has not been a formal part of the Trump campaign or transition for his second term but has been a fierce public advocate for him in this election cycle, including as a columnist with DailyMail.com. Sources said that the confrontation by Conway at the women’s summit was the first proper meeting between the two. “It doesn’t look like there will be a second,” one friend said.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Dec. 13, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Asante Gold Corporation (CSE:ASE | GSE:ASG | FRANKFURT:1A9 | U.S.OTC:ASGOF) ("Asante” or the "Company”) announces the filing of its financial statements and management's discussion and analysis ("MD&A”) for the three month and nine months ended October 31, 2024 ("Q3 2025”). Dave Anthony, President and CEO stated, "We are pleased to report another solid quarter with significant growth in adjusted EBITDA, reflecting the positive impact of ongoing business improvement initiatives at Bibiani and Chirano, combined with the substitutional leverage our operations have to higher gold prices. The relocation of the Bibiani-Goaso highway was a critical milestone for unlocking further growth at Bibiani, and development of the Russel Starter Pit underlines the district-scale opportunities we have in front of us. Both of these developments justify accelerated stripping in the near term, with a corresponding increase in all-in-sustaining costs to unlock their potential. Execution of the sulphide treatment plant project at Bibiani, which is expected to increase gold recovery to 92%, remains on track with commissioning planned for March 2025. And at Chirano, metallurgical and throughput projects are starting to pay off. We were also pleased to update the market on a comprehensive package of non-dilutive finance initiatives to fund the organic growth embedded in our operations, and we look forward to providing further updates on our progress in the near term.” All dollar figures are in United States dollars unless otherwise indicated. A summary of the financial and operating results for fiscal Q3 2025 are presented in this news release. For a detailed discussion of results for the third quarter please refer to the MD&A filed on SEDAR+ at www.sedarplus.ca and Asante's website at www.asantegold.com . Quarter ended October 31, 2024 Summary Financial Results October 31, October 31, (1) Total comprehensive loss attributable to shareholders of the Company. (2) Non-IFRS measure. For a description of how these measures are calculated and a reconciliation of these measures to the most directly comparable measures specified, defined or determined under IFRS and presented in the Company's financial statements, refer to "Non-IFRS Measures”. Asante's revenue for the three months ended October 31, 2024 was $111 million, a 15% increase from $96 million in the same period in 2023. The increase in revenue is attributable to an increase in average gold price realized per ounce of $2,347 for the three months ended October 31, 2024, compared to $1,859 in the same period in 2023. This was partially offset by a decrease in ounces sold of 43,273 for the three months ended October 31, 2024 compared to 50,573 ounces sold in the same period in 2023. Asante's revenue for the nine months ended October 31, 2024, was $339 million, a 15% increase from $295 million for the same period in 2023. Adjusted EBITDA for the three and nine months ended October 31, 2024 was $17,552 and $50,423, respectively, compared to $1,968 and negative $19,457 in the same periods of the prior year. The positive adjusted EBITDA and increase in revenue reflect the rise in gold prices to near all-time highs. The Company produced 45,273 gold equivalent ounces for the three months ended October 31, 2024, compared to 46,525 gold equivalent ounces in the same period in 2023. The decrease in gold production was primarily the result of lower feed grades, and lower recovery at Bibiani. Asante produced 145,632 gold equivalent ounces for the nine months ended October 31, 2024 compared to 155,532 in the same period in 2023. Consolidated AISC increased by 26% for the three months ended October 31, 2024 compared to the same period in 2023 primarily due to additional costs at Bibiani resulting from the start of mining at the new Russell satellite pit, plus increased stripping in the Main Pit, lower grade ore and reduced recovery. Consolidated AISC decreased by 5% for the nine months ended October 31, 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. This decrease was mainly attributed to lower sustaining capital and reduced mining costs per ounce sold at Bibiani, as a result of decreased waste mining earlier in the year. Bibiani Mine - Summary of the quarter ended October 31, 2024 Results October 31, October 31, (1) Non-IFRS measure. For a description of how these measures are calculated and a reconciliation of these measures to the most directly comparable measures specified, defined or determined under IFRS and presented in the Company's financial statements, refer to "Non-IFRS Measures”. In the three and nine months ended October 31, 2024, ore mined decreased 57% and 27% compared to the same periods in 2023 primarily due to fleet availability issues caused by funding constraints. Gold equivalent ounces produced was 12,309 in the three months ended October 31, 2024, compared to 16,459 in the same period of 2023, and decreased to 47,945 in the nine months ended October 31, 2024, from 53,811 in the same period of 2023. This decrease was mainly due to the lower feed grade of plant feed, including the low-grade stockpile draw, and a higher proportion of sulphide ore processed without the benefit of a sulphide treatment plant, which continues to limit gold recovery. Construction of the Company's sulphide treatment plant is underway, and is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2025, contingent on the availability of sufficient funding. AISC increased to $3,115 per ounce in the three months ended October 31, 2024, compared to $1,884 per ounce in the same period of 2023, primarily due to elevated stripping requirements and lower grade ore processed. AISC decreased to $2,286 per ounce in the nine months ended October 31, 2024, compared to $2,588 per ounce in the same period of 2023, driven by lower sustaining capital resulting from decreased waste mining requirements earlier in the year. Bibiani Outlook For the fiscal year ending January 31, 2025, the Company expects production of 52,500 to 57,500 gold equivalent ounces. For fiscal year ending January 31, 2026, the Company plans to execute on its growth strategy which includes: Chirano Mine - Summary of the quarter ended October 31, 2024 Results October 31, October 31, (1) Non-IFRS measure. For a description of how these measures are calculated and a reconciliation of these measures to the most directly comparable measures specified, defined or determined under IFRS and presented in the Company's financial statements, refer to "Non-IFRS Measures”. Ore mined increased by 51% in the three months ended October 31, 2024, compared to the same period in 2023, and by 16% in the nine months ended October 31, 2024, compared to the corresponding period in 2023. Ore mined increased due to increased mining activity at the Obra, Mamnao North, Mamnao Central, Sariehu and Sariehu/Mamnao gap open pits, which were in the stripping stage during the three months ended October 31, 2023, as well as increased operations at the Suraw and Obra underground mines. Higher ore grades and increased ore processed contributed to increased gold equivalent ounces produced to 32,964 ounces in the three months ended October 31, 2024 from 30,076 ounces in the same period of 2023. Reduced grade during the nine months ended October 31, 2024 resulted in a decline in gold equivalent ounces produced to 97,687 ounces in the nine months ended October 31, 2024 from 101,721 ounces in the same period of 2023. AISC increased to $2,031 per ounce in the three months ended October 31, 2024, compared to $1,846 per ounce in the same period of 2023, and to $1,905 per ounce in the nine months ended October 31, 2024, compared to $1,892 per ounce in the same period of 2023. This increase was primarily driven by lower gold equivalent ounces sold, higher maintenance costs and higher sustaining capital expenditures in the current reporting period. Chirano Outlook For the fiscal year ending January 31, 2025, the Company expects production of 130,000 to 140,000 gold equivalent ounces. The Company plans to undertake the following initiatives beyond January 31, 2025, which are expected to enhance production and reduce costs in future years: The Company requires external financing to execute planned capital projects and production targets for fiscal 2026, and meet other short-term obligations. The Company continues to pursue a number of financing initiatives, including those outlined in the Company's news release of October 30, 2024, which it is seeking to conclude by early calendar 2025. There is no assurance that the Company will be able to obtain adequate financing in the future or that such financing will be on terms acceptable to the Company.
