CINCINNATI (AP) — The Cincinnati Bengals have found all manner of ways to lose close games this season. Sunday's 44-38 loss to AFC North rival Pittsburgh can be blamed on a defense that missed tackles and allowed 520 yards of offense, and three turnovers by Joe Burrow. It's become a familiar story in this disappointing season. Cincinnati (4-8) keeps scoring lots of points but can't close out games. Seven of the Bengals’ eight losses this year have been by one score. Burrow has stopped talking about the possibility of going on a run and making the playoffs. He'd just like to win another game or two. “Playoffs are the furthest thing from my mind,” the fifth-year quarterback said. “You never know what can happen, so I’ll keep putting one foot in front of the other and try to be the best player I can be for the rest of the season, week in and week out.” The Bengals allowed Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson to throw for a season-high 414 yards and three touchdowns. After Wilson threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown, the Steelers (9-3) scored on seven of their last nine possessions. They didn't punt until early in the fourth quarter. Burrow lost two fumbles and threw an interception. “We haven’t done enough to earn the win,” coach Zac Taylor said. “It’s a simple as that. It’s nobody else’s fault but our own. We haven’t earned it.” What’s working Turnovers aside, Burrow had another strong game, finishing with 28 for 38 for 309 yards with three touchdowns. Burrow is having a great season statistically, and he hasn't hidden his disappointment and frustration about Cincinnati's narrow losses. ... WR Ja'Marr Chase had a touchdown catch to bring his league-leading total to 13. What needs help The defense missed tackles and couldn't hold off the Steelers, even with Burrow keeping the game close. It didn’t help that LB Logan Wilson (knee) and DT Sheldon Rankins (illness) had to sit out. The Bengals have allowed 34 or more points six times, including in four of the past five games. Cincinnati became the first NFL team to lose four games in a season in which it scored 33 points or more. Stock up RB Chase Brown has been dependable as the featured back since Zack Moss went down with a neck injury. He rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown against the Steelers. He also had three catches for 30 yards. The second-year back has 677 yards rushing and six TDs. “He’s really coming along, improving his game every single week,” Burrow said. “Pass game, run game, running hard, understanding his protection responsibilities. He’s a guy that practices hard, plays hard, and a guy you can count on.” Stock down The Bengals' coaching staff. Something has got to give. There was no excuse for the defense to play this badly after a bye week. The unit gave up 500-plus yards for the second time this season. Injuries None were reported in the game. Key number 30.3 — The average points per game by the Bengals against teams with a .500 or better record this season. They are 0-7 in those games. Next steps The Bengals will try to regroup before facing the Dallas Cowboys (5-7) next Monday night. ___ AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFL Mitch Stacy, The Associated Press

1 2 Jaipur: Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma reviewed the development of Unity Mall in Jaipur, aimed at promoting ‘Make in India' products and the ‘ One District One Product ' initiative. The Union finance ministry already approved the project under a special assistance scheme and sanctioned Rs 100 crore, 50% of the Rs 200 crore allocation, for its construction. The CM also took stock of the plan for setting up the Rajasthan Mandapam , to be built over 40,000 sq mtr, on the lines of the Bharat Mandapam convention centre in New Delhi. While Rajasthan Mandapam, the bigger of the two, has some more loose ends to be tied up, groundwork for the Unity Mall is almost complete to start construction of the project. A senior official of the industry department said they expedited the development of the Unity Mall by getting detailed project reports approved. Ajitabh Sharma, principal secretary (industries), said, "The bidding process for awarding the contract for construction will be completed by Jan next year. We have laid out a roadmap to start construction of the facility by Feb 2025." Sharma said recently the department introduced the OPOP policy, and the Unity Mall will play a catalysing role in promoting the unique products of each district, while creating new streams of livelihood opportunities for local producers and artisans. Planned over 15,000 sq mtr in the RIICO Fintech Park near Jaipur airport, the Unity Mall will have shops for every ODOP, GI (geographical indication), and other state products. The facility will house a common training centre, classrooms, seminar halls, business meeting halls, and an open-air theatre for promotional activities. Inderjeet Singh, MD of RIICO, which is the nodal agency for developing the facility, said, "After engaging NBCC as project management consultant (PMC) for the project last month, we issued administrative and financial sanction of Rs 202 crore last week. The pre-bid meeting with bidders has also been completed. RIICO fast-tracked the process to start construction as early as Feb 2025." Designed to have four floors and close to 200 facilities, the project was announced in the Budget 2024-25. Besides the two projects, the chief minister also discussed plans for developing the 100-acre land at Fintech Park in a way that can enhance the state's high-end services prowess. While officials were tight-lipped about the third project, the possibility of developing a Global Capability Centre (GCC) cannot be ruled out. Stay updated with the latest news on Times of India . Disruptor U. I Sunday on 60 Minutes As contempt for cancel culture and self-censorship on college campuses continues to drive a political divide across the country, Jon Wertheim reports on a new start-up university, the University of Austin. Sunday on 60 Minutes. The state’s refreshed intercity fleet is comfortable, but won’t get you from Sydney to Newcastle any quicker than steam trains did a century agoAmber Heard has claimed social media spreads lies more quickly than it does the truth, in the wake of Blake Lively’s complaint against her It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni. US actress Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment, hostile work environment and embarking on a “multi-tiered plan” to damage her reputation with claims of a targeted social media campaign. The legal complaint states that Baldoni, 40, hired crisis communications specialist Melissa Nathan, the same publicist who actor Johnny Depp is said to have hired during his high-profile defamation trial against Heard in 2022. In a statement given to NBC News, Aquaman star Heard said: “Social media is the absolute personification of the classic saying, a lie travels halfway around the world before truth can get its boots on. “I saw this first-hand and up close. “It’s as horrifying as it is destructive.” Depp successfully sued ex-wife Heard over a 2018 article she wrote for The Washington Post about her experiences as a survivor of domestic abuse, which his lawyers said falsely accused him of being an abuser. At the time, Heard said the jury’s verdict “sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated”. Bryan Freedman, a lawyer representing Baldoni and the other named defendants, said Lively’s claims were “completely false, outrageous and intentionally salacious”, adding that the studio “made the decision to proactively hire a crisis manager prior to the marketing campaign of the film”. It Ends With Us, based on Colleen Hoover’s novel of the same name, is about a woman’s pursuit of a loving and healthy relationship, with Lively playing lead character Lily Bloom and Baldoni as her love interest Ryle Kincaid amid a backdrop of domestic violence. After the legal action was filed, Hoover appeared to voice support for 37-year-old Lively, writing on her Instagram stories: “@blakelively you have been nothing but honest, kind, supportive and patient since the day we met. “Thank you for being exactly the human that you are. “Never change. Never wilt.” Hoover posted a link to a New York Times article titled We Can Bury Anyone: Inside A Hollywood Smear Machine. Lively’s former cast members from the 2005 film The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants, America Ferrera, Amber Tamblyn, and Alexis Bledel, also released a joint social media statement to defend their long-time friend. “As Blake’s friends and sisters for over 20 years, we stand with her in solidarity as she fights back against the reported campaign waged to destroy her reputation,” the statement said. “Throughout the filming of It Ends With Us, we saw her summon the courage to ask for a safe workplace for herself and colleagues on set, and we are appalled to read the evidence of a premeditated and vindictive effort that ensued to discredit her voice.” They added: “We are struck by the reality that even if a woman is as strong, celebrated, and resourced as our friend Blake, she can face forceful retaliation for daring to ask for a safe working environment,” the statement continues. “We are inspired by our sister’s courage to stand up for herself and others.”

Khalistan Zindabad Force chief hails from J&K, is now in Pakistanears of closely working with President have meant that Maj. Teddy Indra Wijaya has been entrusted with a crucial role in the President’s Red and White Cabinet, that of disciplining cabinet members embroiled in controversies. Born into a military family, the mid-ranking officer came to public attention when serving as Prabowo’s aide-de-camp in 2019, closely following the then-defense minister’s every step. He remained within Prabowo’s inner circle after the former Army general took office as president in October, appointed as cabinet secretary; a position usually responsible for supporting the sitting president in managing the cabinet. Since then, Prabowo has appeared to rely on his cabinet secretary to instill discipline among more than 100 cabinet members, as witnessed in how the President’s administration responded to a series of controversial remarks and misconduct by several officials. Among the recent instances that have occurred is Religious Development Envoy Miftah Maulana Habiburrahman getting himself embroiled in an online brouhaha. In a video that went viral on social media, Miftah, who is also a popular preacher, made inappropriate remarks toward a beverage seller by calling him “stupid” and mocking him for selling iced tea on a rainy day to attendees at a religious gathering. Calumet City Clerk Nyota Figgs’ effort to prevent Mayor Thaddeus Jones from reelection was undercut Friday after the city’s Election Board dismissed her claim that he cannot serve as both mayor and as an Illinois state representative. Figgs said she believes that based on a state Supreme Court ruling on Jones’ eligibility to run in 2021, a referendum not certified until after the election would disqualify him from holding top position in Calumet City government. However, a Cook County circuit court judge’s refusal earlier this week to substitute aldermen on the board with outside public members meant the decision did not come as a surprise to the clerk, who believes members Ald. Anthony Smith and Ramonde Williams are in Jones’ corner and vote accordingly. “I was disappointed in the Cook County courts ... in allowing Jones to run rampant,” Figgs said. “With him being a state representative and the mayor, he has a lot of political relationships, and I think that is what this is about.” Smith and Williams, in addition to public member and attorney Thomas Jaconetty who is board chair, agreed a law passed by the Illinois General Assembly renders an earlier passed referendum preventing Calumet City officials from simultaneously being a state representative or senator ineffective. Jones said the decision affirms what he is already certain of — that running for reelection is within his rights. He is expected to face Ald. James Patton, who sat beside Figgs during Friday’s election board hearings. “There is nothing they can do to stop me, because state law is clear,” Jones said. Still pending is an challenge Figgs filed alleging the mayor primarily resides outside of Calumet City. The board granted subpoenas Figgs’ attorneys sought to show Jones lives in South Holland with his wife, not on Paxton Avenue as he claims. The board will hear that challenge at 10 a.m. Dec. 20 at City Hall, 204 Pulaski Ave. Jones said his residency has been challenged in four elections, and his opponents have yet to prove he lives outside the city’s boundaries. He said the evidence presented by Figgs will lead the board to the same conclusion. Figgs faced her own residency challenge from Alyssia Benford, an auditor who previously worked for Calumet City. After a flurry of confusion over the evidence presented about Figgs’ home city, Benford’s attorney agreed to withdraw his objection. Figgs and Jones’ political feud has gone beyond election challenges, with the City Council recently getting involved in a lawsuit brought against Figgs for destroying city records. A majority of the council voted Wednesday on the City Hall front steps to dismiss the lawsuit, though Jones said the action was ineffective because he is the only person with authority over city litigation. Figgs said if the Election Board fails to remove Jones from the ballot in April, she will appeal the decision through the courts. “He should have to choose,” Figgs said. “If (the people) want him as a state representative, that’s fine. If they want him as mayor, that’s fine. But he shouldn’t be able to do both.” ostevens@chicagotribune.comHunger, economic deprivation killing Nigerians – NANS tells Tinubu

HARTFORD, CT – US Sen. Richard Blumenthal on Monday joined leaders of the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center to warn parents and caregivers about the potential dangers that specific toys can pose to young children this holiday season. “This is a very festive time of year with Christmas and Hanukkah coming up in a few weeks, a time of great joy, a time when we’re out buying presents for our kids, and we want it to be a very joyous time for the whole family,” said James E. Shmerling, President and CEO of the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center (CCMC). “There’s also risk when we’re buying these gifts for our kids. Some are not safe. As the only hospital in the state of Connecticut that’s 100 percent focused on children, this is something that we take very seriously.” Along with the usual suspects of toys with small parts and other common safety threats that the wrong toys can pose, Blumenthal and Kevin Borrup, the executive director of the Injury Prevention Center at CCMC, highlighted the dangers of water beads and magnets, which children can ingest with the risk of significant internal injuries that are difficult to treat. According to the (CPSC), water beads are small, water-absorbing, often colorful balls of super-absorbent polymer that can grow 100 times their original size when exposed to water. They are often sold as toys, in craft kits, as sensory tools for children with developmental disabilities, or for agricultural use. “These kinds of toys look absolutely harmless,” Blumenthal said. “They’re colored, they’re attractive, and they look like candy. These little toys look like the stuff that you might actually eat. Little does a child know that these can inflate and literally block the body from working.” When swallowed, water beads absorb liquid inside the body and grow, causing significant and potentially life-threatening internal injuries for small children. CPSC data show that nearly 7,000 water bead-related ingestion injuries were treated in emergency departments in the US from 2018 through 2022. A 10-month-old girl also died from injuries caused by ingesting water beads in 2023. Small magnets pose another danger, as even though they may be ingested individually, their strong forces of attraction will draw them to each other, potentially pinching delicate internal tissues between them and leading to holes in intestinal lining and other critical areas. Another perennial danger are button batteries, which can be found in numerous modern gifts, including everything from LED lights to watches and more. The batteries can become caught in a child’s esophagus, and despite not being plugged in, they can still develop a charge that can burn a hole into the throat lining in as little as two hours. One of the other dangers that Blumenthal discussed is the threat that unregulated toys pose to younger children. Thanks to a loophole known as the “de minimis exemption,” shipments valued at less than $800 enter the United States without duties, taxes, or customs inspections. According to the US Public Interest Research Group’s (US PIRG) annual report, “Trouble in Toyland,” a billion shipments will enter the US in 2024 through the de minimis loophole, including hundreds of thousands of toys and games ordered through internet sellers. “Direct-to-consumer sales through the internet can come from overseas across borders without inspection, from China or elsewhere, and 80% of those toys sold in the United States come from China,” Blumenthal said. “So the mounting threat of unsafe toys, particularly from China, but from all overseas manufacturers, is one that demands action, and I will be introducing legislation to close the loophole for those de minimis shipments that come across our borders, from China and elsewhere.” Borrup offered some simple tips that parents can follow to help make the holidays safer, including: “The most impactful thing you can do as a parent is to give the time to your kids,” Borrup said. “Get down on the floor and play with them, read to them, listen to them. Your time will help your child build the social and emotional skills and protective factors that can provide a lifelong benefit. You can even develop a family game night, the dreaded forced fun that is part of many families and traditions.”

Did you buy raw milk from one of these LA County retailers? You may need to return itNew York State can meet offshore wind's challengesNetflix will have one of its biggest days Wednesday since the site launched in 1998 when it airs two NFL games for the first time. "NFL Christmas Gameday on Netflix" begins with a two-hour pregame show at 11 a.m., before Pittsburgh hosts Kansas City. Baltimore faces Houston in the second game. The streaming giant agreed to a three-year contract in May to carry Christmas Day games. Where will the games be available? Netflix's 282.3 million subscribers in over 190 countries will be able to stream the games, marking the first time one outlet has distributed an NFL game globally. Netflix will have the games available in five languages — English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and German. The games will also air on CBS affiliates in Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Houston. NFL policy dictates that games on cable or being exclusively streamed must also be on an over-the-air station in the competing teams' markets. It will also be available on mobile devices in the U.S. for those who have NFL+. People are also reading... Why is the NFL putting Christmas Day games on a streaming platform? The biggest reason is money. The league is getting $150 million from Netflix for the two games this season. It also continues the NFL's moves into streaming — Thursday night games are in their third season on Amazon Prime Video and the "Sunday Ticket" package moved to YouTube TV last year. But Christmas is on a Wednesday when games usually aren't played. That's true, but the league wasn't about to give up Christmas after seeing the ratings. Last year's three games averaged 28.68 million viewers. The early afternoon contest between the Las Vegas Raiders and Chiefs led the way, averaging 29.48 million. The Chiefs, Steelers, Ravens and Texans played on Saturday, giving them the same turnaround they would have if they played on Sunday and then Thursday. What is at stake for the teams playing? All four have clinched playoff spots in the AFC, but seeding remains up for grabs. Kansas City (14-1) can clinch the top seed — which would mean a first-round bye and home field throughout the playoffs — with a win over the Steelers. Pittsburgh and Baltimore are tied atop the AFC North at 10-5, with the Steelers holding the tiebreaker due to a better conference record. Houston (9-6) has wrapped up the AFC South and holds the fourth seed. Has Netflix fixed its streaming problems from the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight? Netflix hopes so. Brandon Riegg, Netflix's vice president of nonfiction series and sports, said the system was stress tested, and then some, during the Nov. 14 bout, along with internet service providers reporting they were also overwhelmed by the surge that occurred before and during the fight. The bout peaked at 65 million concurrent streams, including 38 million concurrent streams in the United States. According to the website Down Detector, nearly 85,000 viewers logged problems with outages or streaming leading up to and during the fight. Could there be the same number streaming the games that there were during the fight? Possible? Yes. Likely? No. The largest audience for a streamed-exclusive NFL game was 23 million on Peacock for last season's AFC wild-card game between the Miami Dolphins and Chiefs. Nielsen will measure the ratings for the Christmas Day games, with early numbers expected late afternoon on Thursday. When could there be surge in demand on Wednesday? It will probably be at kickoff for both games, but especially around 5:45 p.m. EST. That would be near halftime of the Ravens-Texans game, and when Beyoncé will be performing. What other celebrities will appear? Mariah Carey will kick off the day with a taped performance of "All I Want for Christmas is You." There is no word if Taylor Swift will make the trip to Pittsburgh to watch her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Swift has been spending time in Kansas City since she wrapped up her Eras Tour two weeks ago. How many Christmas games will Netflix carry in the next two seasons? The NFL will have at least two games on Dec. 25 in 2025 and '26, with Netflix slated to have at least one each year. Amazon Prime Video will have a night game with Christmas on a Thursday next year. Does Netflix have an interest in other sports? Netflix's worldwide partnership with World Wrestling Entertainment will begin on Jan. 6 when "Monday Night Raw" moves to the streaming service. On Friday, Netflix secured the U.S. rights for the 2027 and 2031 FIFA Women's World Cup. Be the first to know
