In an interview with the New Yorker after UFC 309 on Saturday in New York , White told the outlet he’s “done with politics.” In addition to receiving support from White throughout the run-up to this year’s election, Trump, often seen sitting ringside for UFC events, had the UFC frontman introduce him on the final night of the Republican National Convention in July . “He’s fighting for the future of this country, and he’s concerned about interrupting my family trip,” White said at the convention. “That’s the President Trump that I know, a man that truly cares about people.” However, that might have been the final time White, a friend of Trump for more than 25 years, helps with presidential campaigns.
BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — Tommy Mellott threw for 300 yards and four touchdowns and top-seeded Montana State tied a school record with its 13th straight win, dominating Tennessee-Martin 49-17 on Saturday in the second round of the FCS playoffs. Scottre Humphrey ran for 102 yards and a touchdown, one of three rushing touchdowns for the Bobcats (13-0), who are home next weekend against the winner of Saturday's late game between Lehigh and eighth-seeded Idaho. In the past five months, HYDRAA reclaimed nearly 200 acres of land (lakes/govt land/parks) and resolved over 5,000 complaints, in the process helping protect the city's water bodies. So far, out of an estimated 9,000 lakes during the Nizam's rule, only 185 lakes have been notified, and 20 of them have already dried up. Commissioner AV Ranganath, who is leading the initiative across the region extending to the Outer Ring Road (ORR), said, "Our vision ahead is clear — we're not just managing disasters; we're preventing them." Real estate market reigned in? An immediate outcome of HYDRAA was seen in Hyderabad's real estate market, with consumer concerns about their purchases reaching an all-time-high. Earlier relegated to just checking if it was a govt-approved layout, prospective home buyers are now seen asking questions such as "Is the project in the FTL area?" or "Has the buffer zone been marked in the property's surroundings?" or at times bordering on paranoia with questions such as "Our houses won't be demolished in the future, right?" Ravi Kumar, a real estate broker in Miyapur, says, "Buyers are not just asking if the property is legal; they want proof. They ask for FTL maps, approval documents, and even municipal clearances before considering a site visit. Recently, I received a request for the FTL and buffer zone maps from HYDRAA to give buyers the assurance." Real estate developers are also tweaking their marketing strategies to address concerns. Many now prominently highlight the precise distance of their projects from restricted zones. But between June and November, the city also witnessed improvements in residential and commercial real estate activity. Just in the month of June, Hyderabad recorded ₹4,288 crore in residential property sales, and the city saw 2.5 million square feet of office leasing activity, an 11% quarterly hike compared to 2023. Buffer Zone Demolitions After facing backlash following several demolitions, HYDRAA stated that it will not demolish any structures for which permission was granted before July 2024. No demolition will be conducted on residential houses constructed without permission if they were completed and occupied by the stipulated date, the agency said. Ranganath said, "We will verify these details through Google Earth and on-site inspections. However, commercial and business buildings constructed without permits, such as N Convention, will be demolished, regardless of the construction date, if they fall within the full tank level (FTL)." On the other hand, scientist and environmentalist Sai Bhaskar Reddy Nakka claimed that the idea of buffer zones as per HYDRAA and the govt was unscientific. "The arbitrary definitions of buffers are illogical; somewhere it is 30 metres, others it is 50 metres. They are not engaging scientists and are unable to differentiate between a natural lake and a manmade tank. Most water bodies in Hyderabad are artificial ponds created for local use." Lake Rejuvenation One of HYDRAA's most notable achievements was its aggressive approach to lake protection and restoration. The saga, which began with the demolition of Tollywood actor Nagarjuna's N Convention, continues with a proposal to revive 12 lakes in phases. "If the govt wants, we can also use corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds to help fund and maintain these lakes," the commissioner said. Madhulika Choudhary, an environmentalist who worked on Neknampur Lake for the past 8 years, suggested immediate measures for a real shot at saving lakes. "The govt should take ownership of all lakes, even those on private patta lands, set a defined area of 10 acres for what constitutes a lake, work on a nala protection plan, and also decide the responsibility of the maintenance of protected lakes," she said. Technology and Innovation "We aim to use remote sensing for mapping full tank levels and buffer zones and use drones to see how many structures are encroaching in lakes," added Ranganath. "We will also create a system to clear out encroachments from footpaths and roads to make way for smooth traffic movement." The same was echoed by Padmanabha Reddy Mutyala, president of Forum for Good Governance. "HYDRAA can usher in a positive impact if it can clear footpaths, remove encroachments, and ease traffic. The future of Hyderabad is dependent on the smooth movement of people." Mutyala said, "One missing aspect is that there is still no tribunal to settle disputes. Even the smallest encroachment can get a stay from the high court, and HYDRAA also faces the same fate. The municipalities have a provision to have municipal administrative tribunals, which can be invoked for the greater good." The Way Ahead Looking ahead to 2025, the agency is now planning to delve into the preservation of ancient heritage rocks in the city. However, challenges remain. The cub, who earned the nickname "Selfie Bear" on social media, made headlines in the spring when the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission released a video of people pulling her from a tree and posing for photos with her in Asheville, N.C. As a result, the frightened bear was separated from her sibling and likely her mother, and ended up in the care of wildlife rehabilitators for six months. "I's kind of a classic case of what not to do," North Carolina wildlife biologist Ashley Hobbs told As It Happens host Nil Köksal. "Never touch wildlife. Never approach wildlife. Give wildlife space." 'Put it back! It's scared!' The video, filmed by concerned bystanders, shows six people, a mix of adults and young people, standing near a fence outside an apartment complex. On the other side of the fence are two baby black bears, perched in a tree. The group is seen trying to pull the struggling bears out of the tree. A young woman manages to grab ahold of one of them long enough to pose for a picture with it, before dropping it. The bear, unable to get back over the fence to its sibling, scurries away in a fright. The people filming the video can be heard shouting, "Put it back! It's scared!" None of the people in the video have been publicly identified, and CBC could not reach them for comment. North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission officers headed to the scene and found the cub in a nearby retention pond. "It was definitely shivering, probably because it was wet. Very scared, as most bear cubs are when they're in those sorts of situations," Hobbs said. "But otherwise, it looked to be in good health." The two cubs, she said, were most likely siblings waiting for their mother to return. "Bears will emerge around April, and at that time, you know, the cubs are still small. They might still struggle to keep up with mom as she is out foraging and moving around on tough landscape," she said. "So it's not uncommon for female bears to stash their cubs in a tree or some other safe spot that she finds along the way, and then she can go and forage and then come back." But without her mother, the little cub was in no shape to be returned to the wild. So she was instead taken to a rehabilitation centre to be cared for until she was ready to go off on her own. To be released back into the wild, Hobbs says, a bear must meet three criteria: Be healthy enough to survive, be old enough to look after itself, and retain a much-needed wariness of humans. "We don't want to release a bear cub into the wild that has become reliant on humans or that sees humans as a source of comfort, so to speak," she said. Selfie Bear, she says, met all three criteria, and was released in October. Footage of her release shows the cub running off into the woods. The officer who released her fires a siren into the air to further scare her off. Wildlife officers have been monitoring her progress via a GPS collar, Hobbs says, and she appears to be doing well. "We do expect it to go on to do things like find a denning spot for the winter and really to follow its instincts and be just like any other wild bear," she said. 'They were remorseful' As for the people who mishandled the cub? Hobbs says she was able to track them down and talk to them. One of the cubs bit one of the people in the video, she said. But it could have been much worse had the mother bear returned to defend her cubs. "There wasn't anything that we could charge them with that would fit what happened in this instance," she said. "However, we did discuss the repercussions. We did explain why it's dangerous for everybody involved." Hobbs, who manages a state program educating people on how to cohabitate with bears, says the conversation was fruitful. "They were remorseful. They kind of didn't realize what could actually come of, you know, handling a bear cub. They were thankful that mom was not around as well," she said. "I like to think that ... it won't happen in the future."

President Emmanuel Macron hosted three-way talks with Zelensky and Trump at the Elysee Palace, discussing what the incoming American president had termed a world that was a "little crazy". Hours after their meeting, the outgoing administration of President Joe Biden announced a new $988 million military assistance package for Ukraine. The package features drones, ammunition for precision HIMARS rocket launchers, and equipment and spare parts for artillery systems, tanks and armoured vehicles, the Pentagon said in a statement. Zelensky's meeting with Trump just before the three men headed to Notre Dame for the re-opening ceremony of the great Paris cathedral was his first face-to-face encounter with tycoon-turned-politician since his election victory. The meeting was of huge importance to Zelensky, given fears in Kyiv that Trump, who once boasted he could end Russia's war on Ukraine in 24 hours, may urge Ukraine to make concessions to Moscow. It also offered a unique chance for Macron to gain insights into how a second Trump presidency will look when he takes office in January. The trip to Paris is Trump's first international visit since his November 5 election win. "We all want peace. But it is very important for us... that the peace is just for all of us and that Russia, (Russian President Vladimir) Putin or any other aggressor has no possibility of ever returning," Zelensky said according to the presidential website. "And this is the most important thing -- a just peace and security guarantees, strong security guarantees for Ukraine," he added. Trump has scoffed at the billions of dollars in US military assistance to Ukraine and has spoken of forcing a quick settlement. But Zelensky also thanked Trump for his "unwavering resolve" describing the talks as "good and productive". Trump and Macron embraced and shook hands several times on the steps of the French presidential palace, with Trump given a full guard of honour despite not yet being in office. "It seems like the world is going a little crazy right now and we will be talking about that," Trump told reporters as he prepared to sit down for the talks with Macron. Despite tensions between the two men during his first term, Trump hailed his ties with the centrist French leader, saying: "We had a great relationship as everyone knows. We accomplished a lot." Macron told Trump it was "a great honour for French people to welcome you" for the re-opening ceremony at Notre Dame, which was devastated by a blaze in 2019 during Trump's first term. "You were president at that time and I remember the solidarity and the immediate reaction," Macron added, speaking in English. When he first took office in 2017, Trump's ties with Macron -- then also a fresh face on the world stage -- began warmly despite their obvious political differences. The quick explainer is that the Valkyries can select up to 12 players in the draft, one from each team. Available players include anyone on a team’s active roster, draftees who have to play in the WNBA and even suspended players or those who have not officially retired whose rights still belong to a team. The Valkyries aren’t required to make 12 selections if, for example, general manager Ohemaa Nyanin would prefer to leave roster space available for free agency and the 2025 WNBA draft. The Valkyries can select just one unrestricted free agent who is still eligible to be cored. This means players like Mercury center Brittney Griner, Dream center Tina Charles and Sun forward DeWanna Bonner are uneligible to be drafted by the Valkyries next week. Most teams have about four players that are obvious non negotiables to protect before it gets tricky. For the Sky, those four players are Angel Reese, Kamilla Cardoso, Elizabeth Williams and Michaela Oyenwere. Chennedy Carter led the Sky in scoring this season, averaging 17.5 points per game.
