Coco Shrimp , the Fort Worth company started in 2016 out of a food truck and known for a simple shrimp-and-five-flavors concept, opened its eighth brick-and-mortar store in November — in College Station, the farthest location from the company’s home base. What’s next for owners Isaac and Lauren Hadley and Mary and Jordan Barrus: a Mansfield location, due in 2025. Trevor Carver, Coco Shrimp’s marketing manager, sat down for a Q&A with the Fort Worth Report. Nishimura: Are all eight restaurants corporately owned? Carver: Yes. (The owners) like to keep it that way, because it keeps them busy and they like what they’re doing. Nishimura: The company said in its social media around the College Station opening that you’d like to expand nationally. That doesn’t mean franchise? Carver: We get hit up every other day for franchise opportunities. We feel we lose a lot of control and vision when you open it up to franchise. We talk about it often, opening it up to franchising in the future. But the owners like what they’re doing right now. And we’ll push it as much as we can and try to hold on to it as long as possible. Nishimura: How have the owners financed these openings? Get essential daily news for the Fort Worth area. Sign up for insightful, in-depth stories — completely free. Carver: They try to cash-flow everything. Nishimura: This approach goes back to the way the owners opened the first brick-and-mortar store in 2019 — by themselves. Carver: Isaac and Jordan don’t have any restaurant experience. They just basically discovered it as they went along. They built their first location by hand, and that’s been the story all along. They were the general contractors. They did the second the same way, because it’s what they knew and it was cheaper that way. The third one was even quicker. And now it’s just a big snowball. Nishimura: As this company has evolved, what’s changed? Or has anything changed? Carver: Not a lot, honestly. I always like to compare it to In-N-Out . They serve two burgers — one’s a single patty, one’s a double patty — and that’s it. That’s what I love about it. (Ours) is just a simple concept. We have one protein, shrimp. Five flavors: coconut, lemon herb, butter garlic, spice and sweet and spicy. We added Coco tacos. But that’s kind of the biggest thing. Nishimura: How big a deal is it to go to College Station, some distance from home for this company? Carver: It’s huge. It’s far enough from DFW that you wouldn’t drive there in a day, for food. We were worried. But there’s kids (at Texas A&M University) who come from DFW. Hopefully, they’d heard of us, and some did. When we opened, we contacted influencers and companies to spread the word. And it worked. Getting in with the college students and faculty was huge. It gave us hope for spreading out of Texas eventually — and going coast-to-coast with it. We’ll be a very new name. Nishimura: Where does the shrimp come from? Carver: Right now, we get it from Ecuador, because it’s reliable, it’s the size we like. But it can depend on the season. Nishimura: What’s next? Carver: Our next one is Mansfield. We just got word we can start construction in January. We’re hoping for a spring opening. If you’re from Antigua and Barbuda , The Bahamas , Grenada , St. Kitts and Nevis , St. Lucia , St. Vincent and the Grenadines , or Trinidad and Tobago , there’s something new you need to know. Starting January 8, 2025 , you’ll need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to enter the UK. Don’t worry—it’s not as complicated as it sounds. Let’s break it down so you can get everything sorted and focus on the exciting part: your trip! The UK’s ETA is like a virtual boarding pass for your visit. It’s required for short stays of up to six months, whether you’re planning to sightsee, visit family, or attend a business meeting. Think of it as a quick formality to ensure smooth entry for you and everyone else. Now, if you’re planning to work, study, or stay longer than six months, you’ll need a different visa. But for a quick holiday or a family visit? The ETA has you covered. Here’s the good news: applications for the ETA are already open for travelers from the Caribbean. If you’re flying to the UK on or after January 8, 2025 , you’ll need to apply before you go. Traveling before that? No ETA is required. So, if you’ve got a trip planned for early January, check your calendar—this could save you some hassle. The application process is super straightforward. Here’s what you need to do: Once approved, your ETA is valid for two years or until your passport expires—whichever comes first. During that time, you can visit the UK as often as you’d like. Think of it as a security upgrade that makes everyone’s travel experience smoother. The UK wants to welcome travelers while keeping things organized at the border. It’s all about ensuring a seamless journey for visitors like you. Here’s how to stay ahead of the game: With your ETA in hand, you’re all set to dive into the magic of the UK. From London’s buzzing streets to Edinburgh’s historic charm, the UK has something for everyone. One Dune Star’s Comments About Appearing in Messiah Should Have Denis Villeneuve Worried
Sunday brings arguably the most significant Minnesota Vikings regular season game in years. The Green Bay Packers come in with 11 wins and looking to avenge an early-season loss . Kevin O’Connell’s squad is pretty healthy, and a full complement of their defensive roster would be great to see. Minnesota Vikings get a big boost Harrison Smith returning to the starting lineup is a significant boost. His lack of presence was felt last weekend in how organized the Minnesota Vikings defense appeared. The veteran captain has no injury designation and is ready to rock. It would be great if linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. joined him. Final #GBvsMIN injury report OUT: Fabian Moreau QUESTIONABLE: Ivan Pace Jr.* *Currently within 21-day practice window pic.twitter.com/PgGASDzos1 Minnesota has been without Pace Jr. since Week 12 against the Chicago Bears. He missed the last four games while stashed on injured reserve, but there is optimism that he can play. Ivan Pace played just 26 snaps in his return from injury, but made his presence felt in a big way with 6 total tackles, including a sack and a TFL. Here are a number of those plays. He is just electric. Special mover. pic.twitter.com/y3m7szg39M Pace Jr. was not available for Minnesota’s first game against Green Bay this year. If he can go Sunday, the Vikings would have their top linebacker pairing to deal with talented Packers running back Josh Jacobs. Pace Jr. has 59 tackles and three sacks in nine games this season. Smith making his absence a brief one and being back for the biggest game of the season is a big development. Pace Jr. has seen a more extended absence, but will quickly be a difference maker once again. Packers missing talent against Vikings While Minnesota is healthy, the Packers do not have the same good fortune. Cornerback Jaire Alexander continues to duck the Vikings wide receivers and won’t be on the field Sunday. He isn’t the only player Matt LaFleur will be without. Christian Watson and Javon Bullard are questionable for Sunday's game in Minnesota. Jaire Alexander, Evan Williams, Quay Walker and Andre Dillard are out. Ty'Ron Hopper is also questionable. Starting linebacker Quay Walker can’t go against Minnesota. He has 72 tackles and 2.5 sacks this season. The former first round pick is on pace to set career-high tallies across the board. The Vikings can hope to exploit the middle of Green Bay’s defense without one of their key contributors. It remains to be seen if Christian Watson can play. He suffered a knee injury last week and would leave quarterback Jordan Love with one less weapon to utilize. With a questionable designation, his status is one to monitor on Sunday. Reddit Thread Sheds Light on Companies Trying to Replicate MicroStrategy’s Appetite for BitcoinThe sixth edition of the World Telugu Writers conference began on Saturday on a grand note on the KBN College premises in Vijayawada. Former Chief Justice of India N. V. Ramana inaugurated the two-day conference which will conclude on Sunday. Justice (retd) Ramana, the chief guest, along with MLAs Y. Sujana Chowdary, Mandali Buddha Prasad, Vishwa Hindi Parishad national president Acharya Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad, Krishnagiri MP K. Gopinath, Margadarsi MD Sailaja Kiran and others paid rich tribute to the Telugu Talli statue. Addressing the conference, Justice (retd) Ramana said that Telugu is spoken by over 10 million people across the country and we should not tolerate attempts to destroy our beautiful language at the behest of commercial and political interests promoting other languages and cultures. “We will become great only when we protect our mother tongue and culture. Even though we may possess many things, without our language we will be regarded as orphans,” he said. Recalling the invaluable contributions of literary legends like Sri Sri, Arudra, Viswanatha Satyanarayana and cinema actors NTR, ANR, SVR, Savithri, Jamuna, and others who strove for the development of Telugu language, he urged people not to forget their services. He emphasised the importance of educating children about their contributions and passing this legacy to future generations. Justice (retd) Ramana appealed to the state government to immediately establish Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University in Andhra Pradesh, revoke GO MS No 85 and strengthen the Telugu Vasha Abhivruddhi Prathikara Samastha to further develop Telugu language. Over 1,500 participants including Telugu poets, writers, and language enthusiasts from various parts of the country along with students from several educational institutions, took part on the first day of the two-day conference.US billionaire Elon Musk backed Germany's Alternative for Germany (AfD) in a guest opinion piece for Germany's Welt am Sonntag newspaper published online that prompted the commentary editor to resign in protest. or signup to continue reading In the commentary, published in German by the flagship paper of the Axel Springer media group, Musk expanded on his post on social media platform X last week claiming that "only the AfD can save Germany." "The portrayal of the AfD as right-wing extremist is clearly false, considering that Alice Weidel, the party's leader, has a same-sex partner from Sri Lanka! Does that sound like Hitler to you? Please!" Musk said in the piece. Germany's domestic intelligence agency has classified the AfD at the national level as a suspected extremism case since 2021. Shortly after the piece was published online, the editor of the opinion section, Eva Marie Kogel, wrote on X that she had submitted her resignation, with a link to the commentary. "Democracy and journalism thrive on freedom of expression. This includes dealing with polarising positions and classifying them journalistically," the newspaper's editor-in-chief designate Jan Philipp Burgard and Ulf Poschardt, who takes over as publisher on January 1, told Reuters. They said discussion about Musk's piece, which had around 340 comments several hours after it was published, was "very revealing." Underneath Musk's commentary, the newspaper published a response by Burgard. "Musk's diagnosis is correct, but his therapeutic approach, that only the AfD can save Germany, is fatally false," he wrote, referencing the AfD's desire to leave the European Union and seek rapprochement with Russia as well as appease China. The AfD backing from Musk, who also defended his right to weigh in on German politics due to his "significant investments", comes as Germans are set to vote on February 23 after a coalition government led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz collapsed. The AfD is running second in opinion polls and might be able to thwart either a centre-right or centre-left majority, but Germany's mainstream, more centrist parties have pledged to shun any support from the AfD at national level.
