Navigation of route through GPS data resulted in a tragic incident in Badaun district on Sunday. Three people lost their lives after their car fell into the Ramganga River from an under-construction bridge. According to police, the fatal accident happened around 10:00 am on the Khalpur-Dataganj road when the victims were travelling to Dataganj from Bareilly. The PTI report, noted that GPS navigation was being used by the vehicle driver who was directed to proceed through the damaged section of the bridge. "Earlier this year, floods had caused the front portion of the bridge to collapse into the river, but this change had not been updated in the GPS. As a result, the driver was misled and did not realize the bridge was unsafe," PTI quoted Circle Officer of the area Ashutosh Shivam as saying. Furthermore, the Circle Officer pointed to the absence of safety barriers or warning signs on the under-construction bridge that may have prevented the foreseeable disaster . The report further states that the car was moving at high speed, due to which the driver was unable to bring the vehicle to a halt when the bridge ended. The car plunged 25 feet into the Ramganga with its three passengers, all of whom died on the spot, a social media user on X reported. As soon as the news came in, Police teams from Faridpur, Bareilly and Badaun's Dataganj police station rushed to the scene, where they recovered the vehicle and the dead bodies. The bodies were sent for post-mortem, the Circle Officer said. The deceased were identified as Kaushal, Vivek, and Amit, who were returning after attending a wedding, a user on X said, Social media users raised concerns over the risks of relying solely on navigation technology, as one user stated, “Never trust Google maps blindly.” A second user commented, “Heartbreaking. Always double check routes. Prayers for the victims.” Another user replied, "Tragic incident! Relying solely on Google Maps can be risky. A fourth user wrote, “Google maps ne bhej diya or mili mout.” A fifth user posted, “How did google maps show the road as open ? I thought they have satellites to map routes and traffic ! This murder is on @Google.”

Linebacker Michael Bormann was tabbed the co-Defensive Player of the Year for the Golden Eagles, who claimed the first state championship in program history on Friday. Wahlert’s Jamie Marshall was named the district’s Coach of the Year. Wahlert linemen Matthew Bodnar, Carter Brant, Body Schmidt and Ryan Winter, defensive backs Luke Welbes and Brody Schumacher, linebackers Tate Schope and Will Welbes, and quarterback Drew Reilly were named to the all-district first team, along with West Delaware’s Brent Yonkovic, Owen Pettlon, Jeryn Funke, Seth Jackson, Luke Beswick and Sam Ogden, and Maquoketa’s Charlier Hafner, Ryker Henderson and Pryce Schueller. Wahlert’s Greg Smith, Noah Krapfl, Anderson Herbst and Logan Klein, Maquoketa’s Derek Wilhelm, D’Angelo Donre, Sawyer Burken and Cole Koob, and West Delaware’s Macoy Roling, Jack Cantwell, Macoy Peyton and Ryan Hilby earned spots on the second team. Schiesl was a secret weapon on special teams for Wahlert and had the ability to pin opponents deep in clutch moments, including punts downed inside the 10-yard line in the state quarterfinals and semifinals. He averaged 42.4 yards on 33 punts and 54 of his 86 kickoffs went for touchbacks. Schiesl, a senior, made 7 of 10 field goal attempts with a long of 38. He was 63-for-66 on extra-point attempts. Scherr, a senior, scored a touchdown in all three phases for Wahlert this season. He averaged 29.5 yards with one touchdown on 11 kickoff returns and had seven punt returns, averaging 21.3 yards and returning two for scores. He was the team’s top receiver, hauling in 25 passes for 598 yards and nine touchdowns. He also averaged 10.8 yards per rush, running 59 times for 637 yards and 11 more touchdowns. On defense he had 56.5 total tackles, 47 solo tackles, 3.0 tackles, 10.0 tackles for loss, one fumble recovery and two interceptions, with one returned for a touchdown. Bormann led the Eagles in both rushing and tackles and was a force on both sides of the ball. The middle linebacker finished his senior season with 95 total tackles and 66 solo stops. He added 3.0 sacks, 22.5 tackles for loss and a fumble recovery. He finished the season with 1,223 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 162 carries, averaging 7.5 yards per rush. He also caught 16 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns. Marshall led the Eagles to the program’s first-ever appearance in the state title game, capping an undefeated season with a 49-14 victory over Humboldt in the championship game. Wahlert set program records for most wins (13) and fewest losses. Wahlert went 5-0 in district play and is will take a program-record 14-game winning streak into next season.

The NBA fined the Atlanta Hawks $100,000 for holding Trae Young out of a game earlier this month. Young missed an NBA Cup matchup against the Boston Celtics on Nov. 12. The Hawks ruled out the All-Star guard due to a right Achilles tendinitis injury. It was the second of a back-to-back and Atlanta's fourth game in six days. The league doesn't believe Young had a legitimate injury. Per ESPN's Shams Charania , the NBA fined the Hawks $100,000 for violating its player participation policy. "NBA says its investigation -- including review by an independent physician -- determined that the Hawks held Young out of a game that he could have played in," Charania wrote on social media. Despite missing their All-Star guard, the Hawks pulled off a 117-116 upset at TD Garden behind 28 points from Dyson Daniels. Jalen Johnson posted a triple-double with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists, and Larry Nance Jr. scored 19 points off the bench. Young has played every other game this season for the Hawks, who are currently tied with the Chicago Bulls for the Eastern Conference's final play-in spot at 7-11. The 26-year-old is averaging 21.9 points and league-high 11.9 assists per game in his seventh season. The NBA implemented the player participation policy before the 2023-24 season to deter load management. The rules state that teams "must ensure that star players are available for national TV and In-Season Tournament games." Along with beating the Celtics, the Hawks defeated the Washington Wizards in NBA Cup action. However, they fell 136-122 to the Bulls on Friday despite Young registering 25 points and 13 assists.
