Granite Point Mortgage Trust Inc. (NYSE:GPMT) Plans Quarterly Dividend of $0.05Te Marae Ora (TMO) Ministry of Health was proud to host a prestigious graduation ceremony a week ago, celebrating the achievements of their dedicated health professionals. The graduation marked the culmination of their recent investment in educating and developing the healthcare workforce, aimed at improving the quality of health services provided to the community through Te Marae Ora. On Friday, December 6, 2024, the graduates, families and invited guests including Prime Minister Mark Brown and King’s Representative Sir Tom Marsters, attended the event at Te Are Karioi Nui (National Auditorium) Dome. The first cohort of 12 Bachelor of Nursing students at Whitireia Community Polytechnic was named in honour of Dr Neti Tamarua. The retired nursing doctor has dedicated her life to the public health sector in the Cook Islands, Aotearoa, Australia and Fiji, with a special focus on the well-being of young people. Dr Tamarua has been an advocate for Cook Islands nurses to go further in their studies with the end goal of returning home to be the next generation of highly skilled healthcare professionals. Rosa Tavai Bob, who graduated with a Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery, says the graduation day marked the end of an “incredible” 10-month journey. “I’m filled with immense gratitude and pride as I reflect on the path that led me to this milestone,” shares Bob. “First and foremost, I give all glory to God for being the Head of my life, guiding me through every challenge and blessing me with the strength to persevere. Without His grace, this achievement would not have been possible.” Bob acknowledged her supportive family: parents, siblings, and their families, for their encouragement and love. She also thanked her many friends for their words of affirmation and constant check-ins, which kept her motivated along the way. “A very special acknowledgment goes to my incredible partner, John P Tuara. You have truly been the backbone of our family and my biggest supporter throughout this journey. You’ve carried the weight of our responsibilities at home with so much grace, ensuring that our children felt loved and cared for even when I wasn’t around. Your patience, understanding, and constant encouragement have been my source of strength. I couldn’t have done this without you. This achievement is as much yours as it is mine.” Bob dedicated her achievement to her children, Rupe Rima, Te-Ata Rima, and Eva-Grace Tuara. “This award is for my children. Everything I do is for them to show them that hard work and perseverance can help them achieve their dreams. They are my greatest inspiration.” Bob was also honoured to share her journey with a great team of colleagues. “This is not just my success but ours, and I carry your love and support with me as I move forward. Here’s to the future and all the lives we will touch as midwives, and to more studies and grey hairs...” She extended her heartfelt thanks to Te Marae Ora, the Fiji National University, the dedicated lecturers, clinical preceptors, and the amazing midwives – “you all played a vital role in shaping our journey. Your support, patience, and wisdom have left a lasting impact on me.” Bachelor of Nursing graduate Elizabeth Kaiou felt “overwhelmed” on graduation day. “Graduating, rewarded the three years of my journey, with one of those years in New Zealand alongside my cohort,” says Kaiou. “It’s been a path filled with endless coffees, long days and nights, growth, and unforgettable experiences. The support and encouragement from my family carried me through the challenges. “Being one of the pioneers of the programme made it even more special, knowing that my success was part of something bigger.” Minister for Health Vainetutai Rose Toki-Brown was “privileged and honoured” with the accomplishments of the graduates. “As we are faced with the global shortage of health workforce, growing our health workforce is critical.” Toki-Brown applauded the initiative taken by Te Marae Ora in partnership with Whitireia and USP Cook Islands, the Fiji National University, as well as universities in New Zealand for the flexibility in distance learning and in-country face-to-face teaching. Speaking to the graduates, Toki-Brown said: “Undertaking most of your study in-country with final weeks or a year outside your workplace is a model that we embrace.: Given the lessons learnt from Covid-19, the increasing risks and threats of climate change and the recent mpox outbreak in Africa, the current whooping cough outbreaks declared in New Zealand and Samoa, the ongoing education and training of our health workforce remains critical. She reiterated the words of World Health Organisation regional director Dr Saia Ma’u Piukala, who stated: “Let’s train people well so they can leave, but we must treat them well so they will not leave”. Toki-Brown added: “As your minister, I say, we have trained you well so you can serve our people, and we will treat you well that you will never think of leaving.” On Friday evening, Te Marae Ora hosted a dinner reception at The Edgewater Resort to honour their long-serving staff. First Farmers Financial Co. (OTCMKTS:FFMR) to Issue Dividend Increase – $0.49 Per ShareNiantic, the company behind the wildly popular Pokémon Go, revolutionized the gaming world when it launched the augmented-reality app in July 2016. By 2019, the app had made its way onto over a billion smartphones globally, captivating players with its unique blend of physical exploration and virtual hunting. For those unfamiliar, Pokémon Go requires players to venture into the real world to capture Pokémon, battle other players, and interact with virtual locations placed throughout their communities. One of the key strategies behind Pokémon Go’s success is Niantic’s ability to engage players in exploring lesser-known areas of their towns and cities. By strategically positioning PokéStops and Gyms, the company has enhanced the gaming experience and gathered a wealth of geographical data—much of which is even more detailed than what Google offers with its street view. AI navigation system Niantic has developed a robust infrastructure for mapping physical spaces using its players as “human cameras.” Over the past five years, the company has focused on its Visual Positioning System (VPS), which utilizes images captured by users’ smartphones to pinpoint locations and orientation. With contributions from players, Niantic has built a 3D map of interesting sites, accumulating in-depth scans of over 10 million locations worldwide. Impressively, users contribute approximately one million new scans each week. The technology works by analyzing the visual patterns inherent in the scanned locations. For example, the local model may only recognize the front entrance if a user stands behind a church. However, by leveraging an extensive global database of similar buildings, Niantic can give the user a broader understanding of their surroundings. This eliminates confusion and provides players with a more immersive and accurate experience. What sets Niantic apart is its ambitious use of advanced neural networks. The company claims to have trained over 50 million neural networks, each designed to represent a specific space or perspective. These networks process thousands of images, compiling them into detailed digital recreations of actual locations. These networks incorporate over 150 trillion adjustable parameters, enabling them to recognize and interpret spaces accurately. Pokémon Go The potential applications of this vast pool of geographic data extend well beyond gaming. Niantic envisions using its technology to enhance augmented reality (AR) experiences, develop autonomous systems, and improve navigation tools. Their past initiatives have utilized player data to analyze foot traffic patterns and determine optimal walking routes, laying the groundwork for future innovations. Moreover, Niantic has recently expanded its horizons by partnering with other technology firms. For example, they collaborated with Microsoft to enhance AR capabilities via the Azure cloud platform, demonstrating the growing influence of AR in numerous sectors, including retail and education. As Niantic continues to evolve, the company’s ambition to create a comprehensive model that understands any location—from familiar streets to obscure corners—could lead to groundbreaking advancements in how we interact with the real world through digital games and applications. Amid rapid technological advancement in AR, Niantic remains at the forefront, with the potential to reshape how users navigate physical spaces and engage in immersive experiences. With ongoing contributions from the global player community, Niantic seems poised to stay a significant player in AR for years, redefining how we perceive and interact with our surroundings.Nagpur: A staggering 1,03,000 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees , diplomas, and PhDs will be awarded during the 112th convocation ceremony of Nagpur University on Monday. Are Americans hopeful — or discouraged — heading into new year? What a new poll foundTim Cook, CEO of Apple, walks on the grid after Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2024 (Photo by Beata ... [+] Zawrzel/NurPhoto via Getty Images) As 2024 comes to an end, Apple’s popular iPhone SE will be withdrawn from key markets in Europe. Yet fans of the mid-range iOS smartphone know that the New Year will bring them something special... replacement iPhone SE that will be better than it was; better, stronger, and faster. Apple was always going to replace the iPhone SE when the newer model arrived. No doubt Tim Cook and his team would have preferred to keep 2022’s iPhone SE on sale for another four or five months until the 2025 version arrived. Alas, the European Union’s mandate for USB-C to be the universal charging port on consumer electronics has put paid to that. Apple's Beloved iPhone SE 2022’s iPhone SE, as well as the iPhone 14 family, launched that same year, are Apple’s oldest current iPhone handsets on sale. They are also the last iPhones to ship with the lightning port for charging. While existing retail supplies can be sold, Apple will stop shipments by December 31 2024 to comply with the regulation that comes into effect on January 1 2025. Since it was launched , the iPhone SE has been rated highly in consumer satisfaction surveys, although this year saw Samsung’s Galaxy hardware match Apple’s iPhone hardware . When the next iPhone SE arrives, Apple will hope that the new smartphone will continue to score highly with consumers. Given the features we can expect, that shouldn’t be too much of an ask. A Stronger iPhone SE The current iPhone SE was launched in 2022 and is powered by Apple’s A15 Bionic. At the time, this matched the current iPhone 13 model and allowed the SE to be pitched as an equal to the vanilla iPhone range. The main iPhone line has been updated annually, but the iPhone SE still ships with a chip approaching three years old. Microsoft Warns 400 Million Windows Users—Do Not Update Your PC ‘Black Doves’ Dethroned In Netflix’s Top 10 List By A New Show Google’s Security Nightmare—Just 14 Days To Change Your Phone With Apple relying on Apple Intelligence in its marketing campaign it would be inconceivable that the iPhone SE would launch without support for iOS’ generative AI suite. That will require the latest A18 processor in the specifications, returning the SE brand to equality with the main line. A Faster iPhone SE Alongside the improved chipset to cope with the demands of generative AI, Apple will need to boost the memory of the iPhone SE. The iPhone 16 saw a higher-than-expected increase in memory when it was launched in September 2024. While this benefited Apple Intelligence, it also improved the full iOS environment, bringing faster switching between apps and more working memory for apps to address. The user experience of the next iPhone SE will include this speed increase. A Better iPhone SE Speaking to Forbes’ contributor David Phelan , Cook is confident this current wave of AI-influenced iPhones—including the upcoming iPhone SE—have a huge potential to positively impact your life: "Artificial intelligence is a horizontal technology in that it will touch everything in your life over time. It will change everything. because it will be like having an assistant, to prepare things that it would have taken you longer to do, to free you up to spend more time, pulling that string of curiosity or creating or following your passion" That’s true from the nearly $2,000 iPhone 16 Pro Max to the mid-range iPhone SE. Apple has worked to keep the price of iPhones from rising between generations, which means Cook’s potential could be available for as little as $430. Get Ready For Your New iPhone SE While the current iPhone SE will leave the stage in two weeks’ time, Apple is expected to launch the iPhone SE in the first half of 2025, potentially as early as March but certainly in time for the company’s Worldwide Developer Conference in June.
