albert fish 1. Impatience “With the belief I have in the group of players here and the club it's just a matter of time. I'm not that patient. So I hope that time is against Plymouth.” Johannes Hoff Thorup’s pre-match words set the tone for another Carrow Road goal fest. A hat-trick for Borja Sainz. A first home goal for Ante Crnac in his fourth recent outing as a central striker. A first set piece goal of the campaign. More ‘Hoffball’ to gorge upon for those home fans, who will now be counting the hours until they can watch it all again when Luton head to Norfolk this coming weekend. After a testing pre-international swing, when City looked weary and riven by injuries and the debilitating suspension absence of Kenny McLean, this was the football that washed away Hull and Watford previously, and had many fans optimistically raising their sights. Such is the ebb and flow of Championship life. But with Marcelino Nunez and Josh Sargent to add to this mix, and a greater strength in depth to the resource on the bench with the likes of Ashley Barnes and Onel Hernandez back in the fold, it will surely feel like those dark clouds have disappeared. Only another injury blow for Liam Gibbs cast a shadow on a command performance against a compliant Plymouth. 2. Borja bangers A second consecutive Championship hat-trick of the season for Sainz. A staggering 16 goal contributions in 17 league games. Can there be a hotter attacker across Europe at present? Which means an inevitable swathe of speculation around the 23-year-old’s future for the lead up and duration of the January transfer window. Thorup pre-empted the line of questioning by stating he was not looking forward to answering the endless questions. Not that those who shape the direction of travel at Norwich will fret about that, given player trading remains a key part of the model. But Mark Attanasio himself made it clear at the recent annual meeting January would be a touch ‘too soon’ to look to cash in on their prized asset. Much in the same vein as James Maddison or Emi Buendia, or maybe even Gabby Sara to bring this more up-to-date, Norwich fans should simply sit back and enjoy the havoc Sainz is wreaking on the English second tier. Sporting director Ben Knapper revealed at that same recent shareholder gathering discussions are on-going with Sainz’s camp to explore all options for a player who is out of contract in 2026. What unfolds from here is largely crystal ball gazing. What is not in doubt is Sainz, Thorup and his coaching staff have found common ground that has elevated the attacker’s output to a stratospheric level. The big question after he had started this season in such fearsome form was whether he could maintain such a consistent seam of productivity? But if anything Sainz looks to be moving through the gears. 3. Free-flowing Emi More evidence, if needed, Emi Marcondes looks an astute piece of business on a free transfer. After an excellent, improvised close range finish at West Brom, plus the sharp interplay with Sainz for the second at the Hawthorns, more entries at Carrow Road in the credit column. Perhaps his role in the opener was a touch generous, given it was Victor Palsson’s errant pass after Marcondes and Crnac combined that set up Sainz. But there was nothing incidental about the timing and weight of ball rolled through for the Spaniard to double his tally in the 17th minute. Add to that his deep corner delivery that brought Shane Duffy a goal, and City their first this season from a set piece. Not forgetting the chip for Jack Stacey to advance and cut the ball back for Anis Ben Slimane. Oh, and the curling pass that Julio Pleguezuelo failed to deal with for Crnac’s to notch a sixth. Thorup spoke at his pre-match media about where he sees Marcondes in this Norwich side; operating in those advanced midfield areas where he can profit from the space afforded by defenders attracted to forward players. But you need the guile and the cleverness and game intelligence to find those pockets. Given this was a player with Premier League pedigree from previous postings at Brentford and Bournemouth you could argue the only element of gamble was how quickly the 29-year-old would pick up the pace, without a pre-season of fitness work. But he already looks like a staple in Thorup’s starting line up. 4. Good to talk, Ante Thorup’s style of football is pleasing on the eye. But the way he carries himself and his words are just as a compelling a watch. The City chief speaks with a refreshing honesty and a common sense that clearly will chime with large swatches of his fan base. His pre-match dissection of Crnac’s struggles in those previous auditions for the injured Josh Sargent down the middle cut to the heart of the matter. Yes, the 20-year-old is a young man in a new country trying to adapt to a very different footballing culture in the English Championship. But he also carries a weight of expectancy fuelled by the scale of the price tag that, in fairness, was not of his making. Yet Thorup met that external debate head on, and admitted Crnac needs to deliver more than the one goal he had previously mustered so far at Stoke. The Dane spoke about his positioning, the need to work on his first time finishing and to develop an aerial threat in keeping with his impressive physique. All wrapped around the unflinching conviction Crnac will become a key striker for this football club. With the game long since decided all that was missing to complete the rout was a goal for the young Croatian. Especially after he had struck a post and headed at Daniel Grimshaw in that opening first half barrage. It duly arrived in the 82nd minute, when he skipped past the stumbling Pleguezuelo before calmly rifling the ball past the Argyle keeper at his near post. The broad smile and the acclaim of his team mates said it all. Given how astute the Dane is, and how well he carries himself, those pre-match words will have been directed for Crnac’s own ears as much as the Norwich fan base.Kansas GOP senator wants state to invest $1 billion to boost pension system’s bottom lineOklahoma Democrats mourn Fred Harris, former US senator and presidential candidate

Gen Bajwa advocated talks with TTP: Omar Ayub General Bajwa told National Security Committee meeting that all conflicts end through negotiations, says NA opposition leader Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub. — Facebook@OmarAyubKhan/File ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Omar Ayub Khan Friday claimed that it was General Bajwa who had advocated talks with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1700472799616-0'); }); Responding to DG ISPR’s press conference, he set the record straight by noting on X, “DG ISPR should know that it was General Bajwa who advocated peace talks with TTP.” “In response to a question about peace negotiations with the TTP in the National Security Committee’s meeting in 2021, General Bajwa told the participants that all conflicts end through negotiations,” Omar Ayub wrote. The meeting, he noted, was attended by all the top leadership and parliamentarians of PPP, PMLN, PTI and other parties in parliament. Omar Ayub also wrote, “In response to DG ISPR’s other allegations “In response to DG ISPR’s other allegations against PTI, it appears that he was handed the same old script he has been reading out in the last few months (that has been rejected time and again), and he has read it out again. The same thing happened to President Yelstin of the Russian Federation when his assistant handed him a speech to read but mistakenly added a copy of the same speech. President Yelstin read out his speech and then continued to reread and repeat his speech when he realized that he was rereading the speech”. Separately, the National Assembly’s former speaker Asad Qaiser said there was a deep concern over the current situation with Afghanistan, and both countries should resolve this situation through dialogue and diplomatic channels. In a statement, Asad Qaiser said, “We have a religious and blood relationship with Afghanistan and deep ties.” He said the current situation could create instability in the region and the federal government should take all parties into confidence on this issue. Qaiser said the matter should be taken forward according to their suggestions by forming a Jirga consisting of the political leadership of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “We are fed up with wars for 40 to 50 years. Such a situation with a brotherly Islamic country is not acceptable. War, violence and aggression are not solution to any problem. Pakistan and Afghanistan should put their concerns before each other,” he maintained. Meanwhile, PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram Friday underlined the need for course correction and introspection, as Pakistan and its 240 million people had been bearing the brunt of the state machinery’s wrong and misguided priorities since long. “It is the state’s responsibility to uphold justice and ensure fair play rather than resorting to intimidation, coercion and threat,” he said in reaction to the news conference of the director general ISPR earlier in the day. He emphasized that justice could not be served by making decisions with preconceived notions and biases, as such decisions could not be accepted as just. He contended that the power to punish or reward individuals lay solely with the judicial system, as mandated by the Constitution, warning that allowing defence institutions to establish their own courts would have devastating consequences for the state’s justice system and the constitutional framework as a whole. The PTI spokesman noted that this was precisely why decisions delivered by independent constitutional courts were universally recognized and respected, whereas those made by military courts were not accepted anywhere in the world. Waqas pointed out that the alarming decline in the state’s rational thinking, decision-making and overall governance had been the primary catalyst for the prevailing chaos and conflict plaguing the country. He argued that the state’s narrative, built on deeply flawed, unrealistic and hateful foundations, was the primary driver of escalating tensions and confrontation between the people and state institutions. Waqas warned that the growing trend of labeling critics of the government and its decision-makers as chaotic or anti-state would have disastrous repercussions for Pakistan. He said peaceful protest was a fundamental democratic and constitutional right of every political party; therefore, the government’s decision to block the PTI’s protest by placing shipping containers across the route was utterly incomprehensible and unjustified. He asked why Article 245 was invoked, roads blocked and peaceful and unarmed workers were arbitrarily detained and demonized, turning innocent citizens into perceived troublemakers. Waqas said millions of Pakistanis actively engaged in national discussions on the media and social media platforms, exercising their critical thinking and expressing their opinions based on their consciousness and available information under a modern and automated system. He stressed that the state’s indiscriminate crackdown on its citizens, addressing critical opinions and legitimate criticism as hostile attacks, only served to escalate tensions and perpetuate a culture of lawlessness in Pakistan.Doctor Who Christmas special theories: What could happen in Joy to the World?

After snapping a three-game losing streak with a lopsided win last week against Chicago, the Niners head into a Thursday night division showdown against the Los Angeles Rams hoping to play with the same kind of desperation in a game they almost certainly need to win to get to the postseason. "I think just across the board as a team, everybody had just a bit more of sense of urgency and I think we executed and played together as a team, and we didn't let off," quarterback Brock Purdy said. "Really liked that. But, that was last week so now it's on to this week and how can we do that again?" After getting outscored by 53 points in losses at Green Bay and Buffalo, the 49ers (6-7) played their most complete game of the season to keep their playoff hopes alive. People are also reading... While some credited a feeling of desperation or speeches from players such as Purdy and Deommodore Lenoir for the turnaround, linebacker Fred Warner said it was more about execution than anything else. "We didn't go out there in Green Bay, we didn't go out there in Buffalo saying, 'Let's just hope that we win.' Trust me, I felt desperate as hell going into both those games," he said. "It just didn't work out. ... It didn't happen because last week we decided we wanted to. This was weeks in the making." Whatever the reason, the results were obvious to anyone watching, including the Rams (7-6), who had their own signature performance to boost their playoff chances. Los Angeles held off Buffalo 44-42 to remain one game behind Seattle in the NFC West race and a game ahead of the 49ers and Arizona in the tightly packed division. Coach Sean McVay knows his team will need a similar performance to beat San Francisco and earn a season sweep. "I saw they certainly had a very dominant performance," he said. "If there's anything that you do know, it's a week-to-week league. Humility is only a week away. They have excellent coaches, excellent personnel and really good schemes. No matter what's really happened in terms of the trajectory of the injuries, they're going to be ready to go." Puka power Puka Nacua is in dominant form with 33 catches for 458 yards and three TDs in the Rams' past four games, highlighted by a 162-yard performance last week against Buffalo in which he also scored his first rushing TD. Nacua was injured for these clubs' first meeting this season — but last year, he broke the NFL's single-game rookie receptions record with 15 in his first game against San Francisco, and he set the NFL rookie season records for catches and yards receiving during his visit to Santa Clara last January. "He's a tough football player," 49ers defensive coordinator Nick Sorensen said. "Some guys are just competitive. He's got size, he doesn't go down easy. Some things you can't measure and he's just got it." Deebo's struggles The least productive four-game stretch of Deebo Samuel's career sent the frustrated wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers to social media. In a now-deleted post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Samuel said the reason he gained only 97 yards from scrimmage the past four games was not that he was struggling but that he wasn't getting the ball. His teammates and coaches believe he will get back to his All-Pro form soon. "I want to get Deebo the ball every play if I could," Purdy said. "I want to have him break all the records as best as possible. I want Deebo to do Deebo things." Defense declining The Rams defense got shredded twice in the past three weeks by Saquon Barkley's Eagles and Josh Allen's Bills, dropping the unit to 27th in total defense. LA's vaunted young pass rush led by rookie Jared Verse has no sacks in its past two games and just three in the past four games. Considering Purdy drove the Niners to 425 yards in the teams' first meeting this season without Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle or Samuel, the Rams' offense might need yet another prolific game to overcome its defense's weaknesses. Under pressure With Nick Bosa sidelined the past three games, the 49ers have had to generate pass rushes from different sources. They had a season-high seven sacks last week with Yetur Gross-Matos getting three and Leonard Floyd two. The 32-year-old Floyd has 5 1/2 sacks in his past four games. "Leonard's just an Energizer bunny," Shanahan said. "It's crazy with him being one of the older guys and stuff and how many different teams he's been to, but I've played against him enough and felt that." Bosa has a chance to return this week and is listed as questionable. Jurors are considering whether to convict Shannon Stillwell and Deamonte Kendrick, who raps as Yak Gotti, on gang, murder, drug and gun charges. The original indictment charged 28 people with conspiring to violate Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. Opening statements in the trial for six of those defendants happened . Four of them, including Young Thug, last month. The rapper was freed on probation. Stillwell and Kendrick rejected plea deals after more than a week of negotiations, and their lawyers chose not to present evidence or witnesses. Both seemed to be in good spirits Tuesday morning after the previous night. Kendrick was chatting and laughing with Stillwell and his lawyers before the jury arrived for instructions. Kendrick and Stillwell were charged in the 2015 killing of Donovan Thomas Jr., also known as “Big Nut,” in an Atlanta barbershop. Prosecutors painted Stillwell and Kendrick as members of a violent street called Young Slime Life, or YSL, co-founded in 2012 by Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Williams. During closings on Monday, they pointed to tattoos, song lyrics and social media posts they said proved members, including Stillwell, admitted to killing people in rival gangs. Prosecutors say Thomas was in a rival gang. Stillwell was also charged in the 2022 killing of Shymel Drinks, which prosecutors said was in retaliation for the killing of two YSL associates days earlier. Defense attorneys Doug Weinstein and Max Schardt said the state presented unreliable witnesses, weak evidence and cherry-picked lyrics and social media posts to push a false narrative about Stillwell, Kendrick and the members of YSL. Schardt, Stillwell’s attorney, reminded the jury that alleged YSL affiliates said during the trial that they had lied to police. Law enforcement played a “sick game” by promising they would escape long prison sentences if they said what police wanted them to say, Schardt said. He theorized that one of those witnesses could have killed Thomas. The truth is that their clients were just trying to escape poverty through music, Schardt said. “As a whole, we know the struggles that these communities have had,” Schardt said. “A sad, tacit acceptance that it’s either rap, prison or death.” Young Thug’s record label is also known as YSL, an acronym of Young Stoner Life. Kendrick was featured on two popular songs from the label’s compilation album Slime Language 2, “Take It to Trial” and “Slatty,” which prosecutors presented as evidence in the trial. Weinstein, Kendrick’s defense attorney, said during closings it was wrong for prosecutors to target the defendants for their music and lyrics. Prosecutor Simone Hylton disagreed, and said surveillance footage and phone evidence supported her case. “They have the audacity to think they can just brag about killing somebody and nobody’s gonna hold them accountable,” Hylton said. The trial had more than its fair share of delays. Jury selection took , and Stillwell last year at the Fulton County jail, which paused trial proceedings. Judge Paige Reese Whitaker took over after Fulton County Superior Court Chief Judge Ural Glanville from the case in July because he had a meeting with prosecutors and a state witness without defense attorneys present. Whitaker often lost patience with prosecutors over moves such as not sharing evidence with defense attorneys, once accusing them of “poor lawyering.” But the trial sped up under her watch. In October, four defendants, including , pleaded guilty, with the rapper entering a non-negotiated or “blind” plea, meaning he didn’t have a deal worked out with prosecutors. Nine people charged in the indictment, including rapper , accepted plea deals before the trial began. Charges against 12 others are pending. Prosecutors dropped charges against one defendant after he was convicted of murder in an unrelated case. ___ Kramon is a corps member for The Associated Press/Report for America Statehouse News Initiative. is a nonprofit national service program that places journalists in local newsrooms to report on undercovered issues. Oklahoma residents on Sunday mourned the death of former Democratic U.S. Sen. Fred Harris , a trailblazer in progressive politics in the state who ran an unsuccessful presidential bid in 1976. Harris died on Saturday at 94. Democratic Party members across Oklahoma remembered Harris for his commitment to economic and social justice during the 1960s — a period of historical turbulence. Harris chaired the Democratic National Committee from 1969 to 1970 and helped unify the party after its tumultuous national convention in 1968 when protesters and police clashed in Chicago.
