Walmart just launched a massive after-Christmas sale - here are 27 deals I'd buyThe United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs projects 305 million people will require humanitarian assistance in 2025. In its newly released 2025 Global Humanitarian Overview (GHO), OCHA describes the drivers of this unprecedented need, including conflict and violence that have led to the intensification of needs. The global population living in areas fully controlled or contested by armed groups is estimated to have increased to 210 million people . Protracted conflict, compounded with natural shocks such as flooding, and political intractability, have driven displacement and worsened human suffering in several contexts, with some of the worst cases in Myanmar, Gaza, Sudan, and Ukraine. Access constraints, funding shortages, and attacks on health and aid workers have left vulnerable populations in hard-to-reach areas exposed to ongoing violence and resource shortages during their time of greatest need. 60 million people across these four conflicts were unable to receive basic assistance due to physical, bureaucratic, and political barriers, including the degradation of norms regarding the provision of humanitarian aid under international humanitarian law. Funding has fallen short of meeting these needs. These four contexts alone represent a significant proportion of the global humanitarian need, while 2024’s global humanitarian appeal stands at only 43 percent funded . Amid escalating access constraints, humanitarian appeals for Gaza, Myanmar, Sudan, and Ukraine will likely remain severely underfunded despite obligations to protect the delivery of humanitarian aid under international humanitarian law. As 2025 approaches, humanitarian organizations anticipate additional challenges in funding aid delivery, including from major donors such as Germany and the United States. Humanitarian organizations and donors will face difficult choices as they work to balance needs with the funding available. This discussion brings together humanitarian experts, policy leaders, and field practitioners to reflect on the landscape of humanitarian need, particularly in conflict settings, in 2024 and look forward to which areas need attention in 2025. This event is made possible through the generous support of USAID.

Check out a TikTok of the veggie chopper in action. Promising review: "Makes life so much easier. I can't imagine chopping onions or bell peppers by hand anymore, and it does so much more. Healthier and easier? Sign👏me👏up👏. Promising review: "My husband surprised me with this fryer cause he said it was the deal of the day and couldn't pass up. I was hesitant at first because it is a very large piece of equipment and we have limited counter space. But once I started using this, I couldn't stop! I love it so much! It really does get things crispy! I have cooked chicken wings, tacos, zucchini fries, bacon, and more in it, and everything comes out great! You do have to play around with the temp and timing of stuff but once you get the hang of it, it's easy peasy! The digital buttons make it easy and it's nice to have different options instead of just off/on like with some fryers. And it actually isn't too heavy so I can move it on and off my counter easy, too. I think it's a great way to crisp food without turning on my hot oven in the summer! Would definitely recommend!" — willmatic84 Get it from Amazon for $99.99 (available in four colors and three sizes). 4. The Lotteli cheat sheet gives you cooking times and temperatures for a lot of your common everyday foods in a magnetized easy-to-read, two-sheet combo that fills in where the air fryer pamphlet that came with the unit leaves out. I also bought an air fryer cookbook but this only comes with specific recipes, whereas the cheat sheet fills in the void for quick basic needs. Very happy with this purchase! 😁" — B. Promising review: "I don't want to get all gushy over a pasta maker, but man...I really love this gizmo! I like spaghetti — either with normal Prego-type sauce or sometimes just with butter and Romano cheese sprinkled on. But I'm lazy and impatient, and don't like things that take a long time to make, with a bunch of steps, and a big clean up afterwards. The Fasta Pasta is perfect for me. I get the exact amount of correctly-measured spaghetti; it's faster than boiling water in a big pot then having to watch and stir the pasta; the pasta comes out perfectly cooked every time; and the cleanup is a snap." — Smilin Sam Get it from Amazon for $16.99 . 7. Plus, some jarred truffle-infused pasta sauce that'll work its magic to transform any easy, reliable pantry meal into something straight out of a fancy restaurant. I've tried both of these flavors of Truff pasta sauce and they are SO good. It likely goes without saying but if you don't like truffles, you won't like this. It is VERY truffle-y. I'm also a big fan of the Truff hot sauce from the same brand. Most of the time I make a meal of whatever pasta and jarred sauce I happen to have as a last resort, but I look forward to eating pasta with this delish sauce — even if it's just noodles and sauce with not even a sprinkle of Parm to dress it up! It'll cost ya more than Prego or other store-bought sauces. But it's worth it as a treat!" Get two jars from Amazon for $29.99 . 8. Gone are the days of having to defrost an entire bag of chicken broth for one cup for a recipe. I now have perfectly portioned 1/2-cup and 1-cup blocks ready to go. They fit easily in freezer bags, take up less space, and make me incredibly happy. There was a lot of attention to detail put into the design and I particularly appreciate the wire inside the rim that holds everything steady — no more worrying about spilling all the liquid on the way to the freezer. My fave is the Mover & Shaker that's a mac 'n' cheese version of cacio e pepe (my fave kind of pasta). They're all super tasty and you can tell that they're more elevated than your standard boxed stuff. When it comes to pasta, normally I'm of the opinion that the cheesier, the better. And these pass that standard! Like, if I'm gonna eat a meal that's supposed to taste like cheese, it needs to taste like cheese. And these do — probably because these are made with *actual* cheese. That is unless you're trying out the vegan option that's made with cashew nut milk." And then after I went through the samples, I bought a bunch of the product with my own money. Twice! And writing this reminds me that I need to do another order. This stuff is so so so good. And truly is just as easy as microwaving the pouch. I find that for me, I can do half a pouch of an entree and then half a pouch of a side (like cilantro lime white rice or Mexican brown rice ) in a bowl, then top it off with a little bit of hot sauce (it's already quite flavorful!) and some green onions. Bam, there's your filling meal." Promising review: "Love this stuff. I eat meat but am always looking for good plant-based options that are satisfying. I loved the cauliflower tinga as a base for tacos. I added some additional roasted veggies (but you don’t necessarily need them — the cauliflower is really tasty on it’s own). It's great with rice. This has no saturated fat. It’s a really high quality product — I felt good after eating it...not usually something I can say with prepared foods. What was really fantastic is that is was ready (hot) after ONE MINUTE in the microwave. This is a great weeknight solution when I need a quick and satisfying meal. Their salsas and chips are awesome, too!" — Midwest Reader Get a six-pack from Amazon for $19.67+ (available in six flavors). 26. A dishwasher-safe nonstick meat and potato masher , which will have you ditching your spatula when it comes to breaking up ground meat and other foods. It's got over 40,000 (!!!) 5-star reviews, and many people rave about how easy it is to use *and* clean! Promising review: "I saw this on TikTok and had to get it! It works exactly like it should, and you don’t really need a spatula when you’re cooking meat with it. It grinds the meat and helps to stir it :). It is dishwasher safe although it took me two washes. That’s most likely because my dishwasher sucks. But it is easy to keep clean." — ashley coogan Get it from Amazon for $6.99+ (available in two colors). 27. The device self-adjusts to fit pots from 6–12 inches in diameter and 3-9 inches in depth. The motor will stir for up to 13 hours per charge and then only takes 30 minutes to recharge. Promising review: "I love this device. It will slave over the stove, stirring your soups, sauces, and candies all day without a complaint or tiring. Now I cook things that I enjoyed serving and eating but hated all that stirring. No more burnt pots and ruined recipes due to under-stirring . It’s a little costly, but once you use it, you will never be without it. I may even buy another one to handle all of my stirring. This would also make a perfect gift." — Steve Bruss Get it from Amazon for $78.95 . Reviews have been edited for length and/or clarity.Brazil's Supreme Court on Wednesday started examining four cases that turn on how far social media should be regulated, and what responsibilities platforms have in cracking down on illegal content. The judicial review comes a month after the same court forced Elon Musk's X platform to obey rulings aimed at battling online disinformation. That issue has taken on heat in recent days in Brazil, with federal police accusing far-right ex-president Jair Bolsonaro and allied officials of using social media disinformation as part of a 2022 "coup" plot against Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, then the country's president-elect. The alleged plot involved using online posts to undermine public trust in the electoral system to justify Bolsonaro holding onto the presidency after Lula defeated him at the polls. Bolsonaro says he is innocent. The Supreme Court's deliberations in the cases are not expected to be concluded until sometime next year. One key point it is looking at is whether social media platforms can be fined for illegal content posted by users. Another is whether the platforms should themselves be required to monitor and remove any illegal content without a prior court order to do so. The court's rulings will become precedents that will have to be applied generally to all social media platforms operating in Brazil. Brazil -- many of whose 216 million inhabitants are heavy users of WhatsApp and Facebook -- does not have legislation in that area. More from this section Global social media networks, however, already have to abide by laws in the EU against illegal online content, under the bloc's Digital Services Act (DSA), which could guide them in terms of Brazilian compliance. One of the Brazilian Supreme Court's judges, Alexandre de Moraes, in August ordered Musk's X be blocked across the country for failing to comply with a series of court orders against online disinformation. On October 9, the platform was allowed to resume activities after paying around $5 million in fines and deactivating the accounts of several Bolsonaro supporters accused of spreading disinformation and online hate speech. The court's presiding judge, Luis Roberto Barroso, told AFP that "digital platforms... open paths to disinformation, hate, deliberate lies and conspiracy theories." He added: "In the whole democratic world there are debates about protecting free speech without permitting everyone to fall into a pit of incivility." He pointed to the European Union's DSA as a form of regulation "that seeks a point of ideal equilibrium". Brazil, in his opinion, should carve out its own regulation "with a minimum of government intervention where it comes to freedom of thought, while preventing increased criminality and inciting violence." ffb/rmb/st

The Dallas Cowboys are shutting down CeeDee Lamb for the rest of the season after the star wideout played through a shoulder injury for nearly two months. Lamb initially sprained the AC joint in his right shoulder on Nov. 3 but has not missed any of the Cowboys' first 15 games this season. "Additional examinations and scans this week on CeeDee Lamb's shoulder have determined that his injury has now progressed to a point that he will be listed as ‘Out' for the remaining two games of the season," a team spokesperson said in a statement to media outlets. "He will undergo a process of treatment and rehabilitation for his shoulder, is not currently expected to require surgery and is projected to make a full recovery." The Cowboys (7-8), eliminated from playoff contention, face two division rivals to close the season. They visit the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday and will host the Washington Commanders in Week 18. Lamb, 25, hauled in 101 receptions for 1,194 yards and six touchdowns this season. It marked his fourth straight 1,000-yard season, and he may be selected to a fourth straight Pro Bowl for his efforts. A woman on Friday won a civil court damages claim against mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor over her allegation that he raped her in a Dublin hotel in 2018. UFC 310: MUHAMMAD VS RAKHMANOV | SUN 8 DEC 2PM AEDT | Order Now with Main Event on Kayo Sports. Main Event on Kayo Sports and Foxtel is the exclusive home of UFC Pay-Per-View. McGregor, 36, shook his head as the jury returned their verdict awarding damages of 248,603 euros ($A398,291) to Nikita Hand, who brought the case at Dublin’s High Court. The court was told that McGregor allegedly “brutally raped and battered” Hand in December 2018 but the Irish sports star claimed they had consensual sex. Speaking after the verdicts Hand, 35, told reporters: “I hope my story is a reminder that no matter how afraid you might be: Speak up, you have a voice and keep on fighting for justice.” She thanked her family including her daughter, Freya. “She has given me so much strength and courage over the last six years throughout this nightmare to keep on pushing forward for justice,” she added. “I want to show Freya and every other girl and boy that you can stand up for yourself if something happens to you -- no matter who the person is -- and justice will be served.” The standard of proof is lower in a civil case than a criminal one with the jury asked to decide the case on the balance of probabilities rather than beyond reasonable doubt. Although the jury found in Hand’s favour in connection with her accusation against McGregor, she lost an assault lawsuit against a second man. The court heard evidence over two weeks from witnesses, including Hand, who has no automatic right to anonymity in the case. Hand added that she had been “overwhelmed and touched by the support” she had received. “For every person who reached out to me -- a card, a letter, an email, everything -- it hasn’t gone unnoticed. Thank you, I really appreciate it so much,” she said. Irish national broadcaster RTE reported earlier this month that Hand had been “absolutely devastated and let down” after the Director of Public Prosecutions told her that they would not be prosecuting either McGregor or the second man over her allegations. She sought a review of the DPP’s decision, but it was upheld. Hand suggested that the DPP was not prosecuting because one of the suspects was a famous person, RTE reported. McGregor is one of the biggest stars in the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) mixed martial arts circuit, formerly holding the featherweight and lightweight titles. The DPP’s office, however, said the director herself had reviewed the file personally but that the case was very complex and there was no reasonable prospect of a conviction for either man. In a statement on X, McGregor said he intended to appeal. “I am disappointed that the jury did not hear all the evidence that the DPP reviewed. I am with my family now, focused on my future,” he said. “Thank you to all my support worldwide,” he added. McGregor made headlines in November last year when he sent a series of social media posts during unrest in Ireland, criticising the government’s immigration policy.
