BAKU (Reuters) -Countries agreed to a hard-fought COP29 deal to provide $300 billion in annual climate finance by 2035. But while some delegates reacted to the agreement early Sunday with a standing ovation, others voiced anger and lambasted wealthy nations for not doing more. Here are some of their comments: U.N. FRAMEWORK CONVENTION ON CLIMATE CHANGE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY SIMON STIELL (in a statement) "It has been a difficult journey, but we've delivered a deal. This new finance goal is an insurance policy for humanity, amid worsening climate impacts hitting every country. "This deal will keep the clean energy boom growing and protect billions of lives. It will help all countries to share in the huge benefits of bold climate action: more jobs, stronger growth, cheaper and cleaner energy for all. "But like any insurance policy – it only works – if the premiums are paid in full, and on time. No country got everything they wanted, and we leave Baku with a mountain of work still to do. So this is no time for victory laps." INDIA REPRESENTATIVE CHANDNI RAINA "We are disappointed in the outcome which clearly brings out the unwillingness of the developed country parties to fulfil their responsibilities." "I regret to say that this document is nothing more than an optical illusion. This, in our opinion, will not address the enormity of the challenge we all face. Therefore, we oppose the adoption of this document." U.N. SECRETARY GENERAL ANTONIO GUTERRES "I had hoped for a more ambitious outcome – on both finance and mitigation – to meet the great challenge we face. But this agreement provides a base on which to build. It must be honoured in full and on time. Commitments must quickly become cash." BOLIVIA REPRESENTATIVE DIEGO PACHECO BALANZA (speaking via a translator) "We need a finance which will properly grant us the resources we need to take steps. The finance that is hugely below our requirements is an insult and it is a flagrant violation of justice and climate equity. "Climate finance, as it stands in this agreement, is extinguishing international cooperation. We are moving on from the time of leaving of no-one behind to an era of let every man save himself." BRITISH ENERGY MINISTER ED MILIBAND (In a statement) “This is a critical eleventh hour deal at the eleventh hour for the climate. It is not everything we or others wanted but is a step forward for us all." "Today’s agreement sends the signal that the clean energy transition is unstoppable. It is the biggest economic opportunity of the 21st century and through our championing of it we can help crowd in private investment." TINA STEGE, MARSHALL ISLANDS CLIMATE ENVOY (in a statement) “We came in good faith, with the safety of our communities and the well-being of the world at heart. Yet, we have seen the very worst of political opportunism here at this COP, playing games with the lives of the world's most vulnerable people. "Fossil fuel interests have been determined to block progress and undermine the multilateral goals we’ve worked to build. This can never be allowed to happen. "Despite the barriers, we’ve fought hard and secured something for our communities. We are leaving with a small portion of the funding climate-vulnerable countries urgently need. "It isn’t nearly enough, but it’s a start, and we’ve made it clear that these funds must come with fewer obstacles so they reach those who need them most. We have also rejected those who sought to undo the agreements we made on phasing out fossil fuels." EU CLIMATE COMMISSIONER WOPKE HOEKSTRA "With these funds and with this structure, we are confident we will reach the $1.3 trillion objective. On efforts to cut emissions: "It was not a focus of this COP but we wanted more, because the world needs more of it. And even though the UAE Consensus was attacked, we did move forward, even though it was just a bit. "We did manage to safeguard Dubai and take some steps forward. It is less than we would have liked, but it's better than we feared. So we're unhappy to lose a year, we're happy not to lose this fight." (Reporting by Simon Jessop, Gloria Dickie, Kate Abnett, Valerie Volcovici ; Editing by Katy Daigle)In the eyes of the West, the future of global peace hinges on developments in the Middle East, Russia, and China. NATO chief Mark Rutte recently emphasized that while NATO allies are just beginning to implement a defense spending goal of two percent of gross domestic product (GDP), Russia is projected to allocate eight percent of its GDP for military purposes by 2025. This significant military buildup raises concerns that Russia is not seeking peace. Supported by allies such as China, North Korea, and Iran, Russia is dedicating one-third of its national budget to arms development, compensating in quantity for what it may lack in quality. Meanwhile, China is aggressively enhancing its nuclear capabilities with no transparency or limitations. In 2020, Beijing possessed only 20 nuclear warheads; by 2030, this figure could soar to a thousand. This rapid expansion poses a dangerous threat to global stability. Additionally, China is engaged in a “chip war” with the United States, emphasizing the critical role of semiconductors in robotics, military armaments, and artificial intelligence warfare. Within this broader context, the conflicts in the Middle East appear relatively minor. The targeted assassinations of Hezbollah leaders have weakened Iran's proxy forces across the region. Iran itself is struggling with weak economic fundamentals and civil unrest, hindering its nuclear ambitions. In Syria, the opposition has successfully deposed Bashar al-Assad, who has fled to Russia for asylum. As Russia evacuates its military presence in Khmeimim and Tartus, it risks losing leverage against Turkey—a nation it has been at odds with since Turkish forces shot down a Russian jet in 2015. A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah is reportedly in the works, diminishing the perception of Gaza as a central issue. The brutal attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023, resulting in the deaths of over a thousand Israelis, has been described as the "worst attack against Jews since the Holocaust." This has led to a severe military response, with relentless bombing of Gaza causing at least 40,000 Palestinian deaths this year alone. Hamas is currently withholding the release of hostages, a condition for a ceasefire, in an effort to pressure Israel into a continuous assault on Gaza. This situation has created a significant public relations disaster for Israel on the global stage. However, the Gaza conflict is likely to reach a conclusion soon, as it is too small a territory to serve as a permanent source of tension. A potential resolution could be a two-state solution—one Israel and one Palestine—recognized by peaceful Arab states like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates. Such a resolution might finally address the long-standing grievances in the region. Conversely, the situation in Ukraine presents a different challenge. Russia has recently escalated its aggression with ballistic missile assaults on Kyiv and other cities, leaving half of Ukraine without power. This escalation was prompted by U.S. President Joe Biden's decision to permit long-range missiles to be used against Russian territory. The question arises: Will President-elect Donald Trump fulfill his promise to end the Ukraine war upon taking office? One potential strategy is for Trump to withhold further military and financial support to Ukraine, compelling it to accept Russia's permanent occupation of seized territory in exchange for a ceasefire. However, whether Ukraine and Russia will agree to such terms remains uncertain. One reassuring thought is that, despite Russia's threats to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine, common sense suggests that the aggressor is unlikely to follow through due to the catastrophic fallout that would affect Ukraine—a country Russia aims to occupy. Putin likely understands the consequences of such an action. Media analyst Elena Gold cites Putin’s chief spy, Nikolai Patrushev, who claimed that Trump could be assassinated if he fails to uphold his election promise regarding Ukraine. This statement highlights the dangerous game of international blackmail at play. Russia has demonstrated a willingness for violent retaliation, as exemplified by the fate of dissident Yevgeny Prigozhin, who attempted to take over Moscow in 2023. After failing and being pardoned by Putin, he died under suspicious circumstances just months later. Russia appears prepared for a protracted war in Ukraine, while European nations are increasing their defense spending in anticipation of reduced U.S. aid. One notable supporter of Ukraine is Poland, whose economy has been growing rapidly, with a GDP that has surpassed $500 billion. In the coming decade, Poland could rival Germany and the United Kingdom, according to the "Daily Digest." At the start of the Ukraine conflict, many nations hesitated to assist; Germany sent helmets while Poland provided 300 tanks to Kyiv. Poland is reportedly building its army to 300,000 strong by 2030, positioning itself as a significant military force in Europe. Despite these developments, a prolonged stalemate in the Ukraine war seems likely, as it ultimately becomes a war of attrition. Meanwhile, China is expected to continue asserting its influence in the West Philippine Sea. A coalition of ASEAN nations and allies, including the USA, Australia, Japan, and the UK, will strive to ensure that this region remains a safe route for international trade. While there may be rhetorical battles, the hope is that no shots will be fired. Taiwan remains a critical flashpoint, as China seeks to annex the island nation, which has a substantial semiconductor manufacturing capacity. The island is also prepared to defend its sovereignty. The question remains: how far will the U.S. go to defend Taiwan against potential Chinese aggression? The U.S.-China "trade war" further complicates matters, with Trump threatening a 60% tariff on Chinese goods and the U.S. restricting technology exports to 140 countries, including China. In response, China has charged NVIDIA in Russia with anti-monopoly and purchase violations. During a recent meeting, Chinese leader Xi told Donald Trump, "If we cooperate, both our nations will prosper," highlighting the delicate balance of international relations. For now, the prospects of an immediate, globe-threatening World War seem distant, but the uncertainty of global tensions raises questions about the future of peace and stability. Sturdevant: When departing Hornstein describes value of friendships, the incoming Legislature should listenI like Martha Stewart. Always have. Two recent documentaries, "Martha" on Netflix and the CNN series "The Many Lives of Martha Stewart," follow the Greek drama that make Stewart a cultural fascination to this day. They recount the jihad against this visionary who came under attack for being a woman with fierce ambition. Admittedly, Stewart's hard edged perfectionism and nuclear-powered drive had created some tension with her product, the "soft" home arts of cooking, flower arranging and chair reupholstering. But did she have to be destroyed? Sure, Stewart engaged in some insider trading that may have seemed nothing more than an innocent stock tip. She shouldn't have lied about it to the FBI. But did journalist Dominick Dunne have to call her the "Goddess of Greed" over a transaction that saved the creator of a billion-dollar business only $45,673? It sure didn't merit five months in prison. In 1987, the cultural hyenas jumped on her for signing a $5 million contract with Kmart. Stewart was allegedly "selling out" the domestic lifestyle she had cultivated, moving away from authenticity toward mass production and profit. People are also reading... Heaven forfend. The year before, The Disney Co.'s CEO walked off with a $90 million severance check after 14 months of undistinguished performance. She was tenacious. So what? Male executives wore that badge proudly. This woman built a business empire based on creating artistic cheese trays and making wreaths from dry leaves. Try that, Elon Musk. Some of her trouble came in the sub-message that our home lives had turned slovenly because Americans had stopped caring about family dinners and dust balls under the sofa. Some translated that not as a call to do better but as an indictment. But Stewart had no army. Those who accused her of creating unrealistic expectations for women juggling work and family should have been asked: Whose expectations? One could simply enjoy watching her on TV or reading her magazine, Martha Stewart Living. Her projects were properly labeled "aspirational." I once tried to follow her instructions for coloring cloth with natural vegetable dyes. Two hours later, I ended up with blotchy fabric and hands stained by beet juice. I tried, I failed, and I had a funny story to tell. I was intrigued by her demonstration on how to roll an ironed tablecloth in parchment paper to prevent wrinkles. And how nice that she could whip up 80 perfectly iced little cakes in no time. I can't do a single backflip. Must I resent Simone Biles for executing a triple-double in one move? It took Superwoman strength to plant an orchard with 122 trees and who knows how many rose bushes. One interviewer noted that people living in Detroit or New York City couldn't do rose gardens. She responded, "But yes, they want roses." The fantasy was more than half the point. Women were among her leading inquisitors. One called her "the most intimidating homemaker on earth." Another female interviewer tells her, "Either they worship you or they say you make us crazy." There was a third possibility — that they found her entertaining. Stewart can lay claim to two heroic feats: She played a big part in improving the quality of American homelife. And she rebuilt a business that had been left for dead. Above all, Martha was a great tough broad. You saw how TV's Larry King kept badgering her about her failed marriage in a way that would have seemed bizarre had the executive been a man. "I had sacrificed a marriage because of the allure of a great job," she finally relented. And she didn't regret it? She did not. I like Stewart, still going strong at 83. More than ever. Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour confirmed on a podcast interview that his employees asked social media influencers to promote memes about the FBI’s raid on the home of his archrival, the CEO of Polymarket. Both companies offer competing events-betting markets, a new kind of betting industry where people wager about the outcomes of events ranging from elections to popular culture. The FBI raided the home of Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan last month, and it turns out Kalshi tried to capitalize on its rival’s misfortunes by asking influencers to post memes about it, Mansour said. “Some of our team got pretty heated. They didn’t pay anyone; they just asked some of our longstanding affiliates to post some of the memes,” Mansour told Nichole Wischoff on this week’s episode of her show FirstMoney In. Pirates Wires, a media outlet founded by Mike Solana, reported that Kalshi employees were paying influencers to post content suggesting that Polymarket and its CEO Shayne Coplan were engaging in illegal activities. The Pirates Wires article, however, also acknowledged its own apparent conflicts of interest with this report. Solana is a chief marketing officer for Founders Fund, one of Polymarket’s key investors, and Polymarket is an advertiser for Pirates Wires. The podcast segment discussing Kalshi’s response to the raid and the rivalry with Polymarket was deleted shortly after it initially aired. TechCrunch, however, has obtained and listened to the deleted portion. On the podcast, Mansour accused Polymarket of engaging in similar social media tactics against Kalshi, too. “Both companies have been doing this,” he said, adding that his team believed Polymarket was behind some social media posts suggesting that “we also got raided by the FBI. That did not happen,” he said. “We did not get raided by the FBI.” TechCrunch couldn’t confirm these allegations. Neither Polymarket nor Kalshi responded to our requests for comment. But the CEO did say on the podcast that he let the social media wars “go too far” by members of his company, adding, “I don’t think there’s a point going tit for tat.” While Kalshi didn’t fire the involved employees, Mansour said the individuals “understand that it was a mistake, and they shouldn’t do this again.” Polymarket alleged the reasons for the raid had to do with political motivations surrounding wagers on the U.S. presidential election, although both markets were making bets on its outcome. According to Bloomberg, the Department of Justice is investigating Polymarket for allegedly allowing U.S. users to engage in restricted trades. Following a 2022 settlement with the Commodity and Exchange Commission, Polymarket is barred from allowing U.S. traders to place bets on its platform, Bloomberg also reported. Kalshi, unlike Polymarket, has been legally permitted to accept trades from U.S. residents since 2021. In September the company also won a lawsuit that permitted it to accept bets on election outcomes. Kalshi, whose backers include Sequoia and Y Combinator, is currently raising a funding round of as much or more than $50 million, TechCrunch reported last month.MMA Global Announces the SMARTIESTM X Global & North America 2024 Winners: A Celebration of Marketing Excellence – Pushing Innovative Boundaries on the Global StageGAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — DJ Lagway threw two touchdown passes, Montrell Johnson ran for 127 yards and a score, and Florida upset No. 9 Mississippi 24-17 on Saturday to knock the Rebels out of College Football Playoff contention. The Gators (6-5, 4-4 Southeastern Conference), who topped LSU last week, beat ranked teams in consecutive weeks for the first time since 2008 and became bowl eligible. The late-season spurt provided another vote of confidence for coach Billy Napier, who is expected back for a fourth season. Ole Miss (8-3, 4-3), which entered the day as a 10-point favorite, lost for the first time in four games and surely will drop out of the 12-team playoff picture. The Rebels ranked ninth in the latest CFP and needed only to avoid stumbling down the stretch against Florida and lowly Mississippi State to clinch a spot in the playoff field. But coach Lane Kiffin’s team failed to score in three trips inside the red zone and dropped countless passes in perfect weather. No. 2 OHIO ST. 38, No. 5 INDIANA 15 COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Will Howard passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another, TreVeyon Henderson ran for a score and No. 2 Ohio State beat previously undefeated No. 5 Indiana. The Ducks beat Ohio State 32-31 in a wild one back on Oct. 12. The Hoosiers (10-1, 7-1, No. 5 CFP) had their best chance to beat the Buckeyes for the first time since 1988 but were hurt by special teams mistakes and disrupted by an Ohio State defense that sacked quarterback Kurtis Rourke five times. Howard finished 22 for 26 for 201 yards. Emeka Egbuka had seven catches for 80 yards and a TD. No. 8 GEORGIA 59, UMass 21 ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Carson Beck threw four touchdown passes, Nate Frazier ran for 136 yards with three scores and No. 8 Georgia overwhelmed Massachusetts as the Bulldogs tried to protect their College Football Playoff hopes. Georgia (9-2, No. 10 CFP) needed the big offense from Beck and Frazier to rescue a defense that gave up 226 rushing yards. UMass (2-9) played its first game under interim coach Shane Montgomery, the offensive coordinator who retained his play-calling duties after replacing fired coach Don Brown on Monday. Jalen John led the Minutemen with 107 rushing yards and a touchdown. Georgia extended its streak of consecutive home wins to 30, the longest active streak in the Football Bowl Subdivision. No. 10 TENNESSEE 56, UTEP 0 KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Nico Iamaleava threw for 209 yards and four touchdowns to lead No. 10 Tennessee to a victory over UTEP. The Volunteers (9-2) overcame a sluggish start to roll up the impressive win. Both teams were scoreless in the first quarter, but Tennessee found its rhythm. Grad student receiver Bru McCoy, who hadn’t caught a touchdown pass this season, had two. Peyton Lewis also ran for two scores. Tennessee’s defensive line, which had no sacks in last week’s loss to Georgia, had three against the Miners. UTEP (2-9) struggled with two missed field goals and three turnovers. Tennessee’s offense came alive with 28 points in the second quarter. In the final four drives of the quarter, Iamaleava completed 11 of 12 passes for 146 yards and touchdowns to Squirrel White, Ethan Davis and McCoy. No. 11 MIAMI 42, WAKE FOREST 14 MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Cam Ward passed for 280 yards and threw two touchdowns to Jacolby George on another record-breaking day, Mishael Powell ran an interception back 76 yards for a touchdown and No. 11 Miami pulled away late to beat Wake Forest. The Hurricanes (10-1, 6-1 Atlantic Coast Conference, No. 8 College Football Playoff) can clinch a berth in the ACC title game with a win at Syracuse next weekend. Ward completed 27 of 38 passes, plus ran for a score. He broke two more single-season Miami records, both of which had been held for 40 years by Bernie Kosar — most passing yards in a season and most completions in a season. Ward now has 3,774 yards on 268 completions this season. Kosar threw for 3,642 yards on 262 completions in 1984. Demond Claiborne had a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown for Wake Forest (4-7, 2-5). Claiborne also rushed for 62 yards for the Demon Deacons, and starting quarterback Hank Bachmeier was 8 of 14 passing for 86 yards and a touchdown. No. 13 SMU 33, VIRGINIA 7 CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Kevin Jennings threw for a career-high 323 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another, and No. 13 SMU clinched a spot in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game by routing Virginia. Isaiah Smith and Jared Harrison-Hunte each had two sacks to help the Mustangs (10-1, 7-0, No. 13 CFP) extend their winning streak to eight. They would earn an automatic bid into the expanded College Football Playoff by beating 11th-ranked Miami or 17th-ranked Clemson in the ACC title game on Dec. 7 in Charlotte, North Carolina. SMU had to get there first, and Jennings led the way again, bouncing back from an interception and a fumble to complete 25 of 33 passes to six different receivers, including TD tosses to Jordan Hudson and Matthew Hibner. Brashard Smith provided a little balance on offense, running for 63 yards and his 13th touchdown of the season. SMU’s defense overwhelmed UVa’s offensive line, sacking Anthony Colandrea nine times and allowing the Cavaliers (5-6, 3-4) just 173 yards. Special teams contributed, too, with Roderick Daniels Jr. returning a punt 48 yards and Collin Rogers making two field goals. No. 24 ILLINOIS 38, RUTGERS 31 PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) — Luke Altmyer found Pat Bryant for a catch-and-run, 40-yard touchdown pass with 4 seconds left, sending No. 24 Illinois to a wild victory over Rutgers. Illinois (8-3, 5-3 Big Ten) was down 31-30 when it sent long kicker Ethan Moczulski out for a desperation 58-yard field goal with 14 seconds to go. Rutgers coach Greg Schiano then called for a timeout right before Moczulski’s attempt was wide left and about 15 yards short. After the missed field goal was waved off by the timeout, Illinois coach Bret Bielema sent his offense back on the field. Altmyer hit Bryant on an in cut on the left side at the 22, and he continued across the field and scored untouched in a game that featured three lead changes in the final 3:07. Rutgers (6-5, 3-5) gave up a safety on the final kickoff return, throwing a ball out of bounds in the end zone as players passed it around hoping for a miracle touchdown. Altmyer was 12-of-26 passing for 249 yards and two touchdowns. Bryant finished with seven receptions for 197 yards.

She explained: "The new No7 Pro Artist collection has been designed to deliver amazing results, with luxury-rivalling products and beautiful, easy-to-achieve looks, that means everyone can feel excited about makeup!" Here's what our beauty experts had to say. Eve's favourite picks from the No7 Pro Artist range: I love a cream bronzer. Having always been a powder girl, I made the switch to the silkier based products last year and haven’t looked back. So naturally, when No7 launched its new ProArtist range which included a dreamy looking bronzer that has already garnered 9 five-star reviews and is described as going on ‘like a dream’, I had to get my hands on it. Coming in a round tub — like a face cream — the ‘Soft Glow’ bronzer has a velvet texture and comes in a beautiful caramel colour (with the shade Light Glow). I applied the velvety product to my fingertips firstly, swirling it on the product and dabbed it onto my cheeks. I loved how easily it not only went on but blended — without disappearing or without drying out my skin, as some bronzers can do. It was pigmented but wasn’t so intense — as the name would suggest — that it looks like you’ve applied way too much. It just gives you a soft sunkissed glow. It’s also buildable to achieve your desired bronzed goddess look. With it being creamy, the shimmer it gives your cheekbones too is lovely. It injects some healthy colour into your skin and gives it a natural shine without feeling heavy on your cheeks. I’m also impressed by how long it lasted without needing a top up — a good few hours. While it does cost £19.95 (not the cheapest), it’ll certainly last you a long time as you don’t need to apply much to make an impact. I love a liquid blush. It’s the ideal product to give your cheeks a rosey glow that it dewy and natural (depending on how much you apply). And while my go-to has recently been NARS’ Afterglow in the shade Orgasm (a lovely peachy rose colour), No7’s new Pro Artist Luxe Liquid Blush, £14.95 , intrigued me after seeing a video of Nicola Chapman — No7’s Beauty Make-up Artist Ambassador — applying the product and it coming out beautifully. Already having a light pinkish toned blush, I tried the slightly purpler shade taupe — thinking it’d work with my darker hair and olive skin-tone. I applied two dots to my cheeks and immediately found out how pigmented it is as I tried to blend out with my fingers. Turning to my trusty blush brush, I tested out its ‘super blendable’ described and dabbed, circled and blended the creamy product out and was proved right. It blended out wonderfully and I was met with a dusky rose 'blurred' flush to my cheeks that was colder than I’m used to but was actually pretty brightening and still gorgeously glowy. It's definitely going to become my go-to blush for the winter season. Bethan's favourite picks When I tried out the new No7 Pro Artist range for the first time, I immediately loved a number of the products. But what solidified them as standout in the affordable luxury category, is that many of them have found their way into my daily routine, even having me ditch cult brands like Rare Beauty, Refy and Charlotte Tilbury in the process. The No7 Pro Artist Base Perfecting Primer costs £19.95 is a gel primer designed to give a radiant glow while creating a smooth base that holds makeup well throughout the day. Its got a really silky texture, but a little goes a long way. The first time I used it, I used way too much and it took a while to sink in, so rest assured that one pump is plenty. The finished effect is really illuminated which I feel helps minimise imperfections, meaning it’s great under makeup for giving glow, but equally works well on its own on no-makeup days to give your skin some life. As someone who has struggled with cream bronzers appearing muddy or too warm, I didn’t hold out much hope for the No7 Pro Artist Soft Glow Cream Bronzer. I was soon proven wrong, and it quickly became my go-to bronzer, taking over from my beloved Refy . It’s really lightweight and velvety, and not too pigmented on the first pass but very buildable, making it easy to control the intensity. The neutral tone flatters pale skin without veering orange, and it blends really well into the skin, working nicely over and under other products in my routine, too. The No7 bronzer is actually more expensive than Refy’s £18 offering, but it is considerably bigger and for an extra £1.95, I think it’s worth it. Liquid blushes can be quite intimidating because it’s really easy to do too much, even after applying the tiniest dot, as I’ve often found with Rare Beauty’s Soft Pinch . But the No7 Pro Artist Luxe Liquid Blush has a silky feel and some powder in the formula that makes it blend effortlessly for a finish that dries down beautifully. The pigment is perfectly balanced and you don’t end up with an uneven finish where you first applied. Much like other products in the range, it’s buildable, so you can be as subtle or as bold as you like. The Pink shade felt perfect for me, giving a fresh flush to the cheeks. The No7 Pro Artist Eyeshadow Palette: Lights Camera Action , gives the likes of Charlotte Tilbury a run for her money. Costing £16.95, this versatile palette features soft shimmers and blendable mattes that are said to be ‘high pigment but low maintenance’, and I couldn’t agree more. While the colour payoff is impressive, the shadows are very forgiving and easy to work with, even for beginners. I feel like this is great for on-to-go glam — and just in time for the Christmas party season. Finishing the look with lips, I used the incredibly creamy No7 Pro Artist Precision Edit Lip Liner, which is £12.95. The ultra-fine tip gives precise control to define lips, ready for me to go in with the No7 Pro Artist Matte Muse Lipstick in the matching shade, which was Rose Couture, which is a lovely pink-nude shade that I think will suit most people. I’m not a massive fan of matte lipsticks, though, so I did add a gloss over the top to make it feel a bit more ‘me’. Overall I was really impressed by No7’s Pro Artist range . While everything is under £20, it still delivers high quality, well performing makeup staples that feel that little bit more elevated — not to mention they provide incredibly flattering results, whether you’re a makeup pro or not. Rachel's favourite picks As a complete newbie to bronzer, after trying No 7's new Pro Artist Soft Glow cream bronzer , I'm officially a convert. l love the light, buildable coverage and the creamy consistency that glides onto your face. Not being used to bronzer, I was concerned it might look too harsh on my skin, so it was important for me to start with something lighter that I could build up gradually. I love the subtle Light Glow 's shade and the shimmer it achieves to help give my face some definition. I recently raved about the new No7 ProArtist Matte Muse Lipstick too — it's become my go-to for dressing up a casual outfit for a coffee date or adding a touch of glam for a night out. In shade Red Carpet Ready , it carries a subtle blue undertone that seemed to brighten my complexion and boost my confidence. It did, like most lipsticks, fade after eating and drinking throughout the day and required a quick top-up, but I loved how moisturising it felt for a matte lipstick. However, if you're looking for something with a little more staying power, you can't go wrong with Maybelline's Superstay Matte Ink in Pioneer — this does not budge. Lauren's favourite picks I'm echoing the thoughts of the other gals here, but the No7 Pro Artist Soft Glow cream bronzer is at the top of my list. In the past, I've used powdered bronzer and never thought to try a cream-based formula, but I'm an official convert. As a fair-skinned girlie, I have to be careful about how much bronzer I apply, but No7's iteration is a game-changer. It glides across my face smoothly, and it's easy enough to build up if I want a little more glow. I especially like it for the way it blends seamlessly into my skin to create a subtle finish — ideal for ensuring my pale complexion doesn't end up looking like a bad fake tan job. It feels nourishing and hydrating, and it's long-wearing as well — I can't remember a time I've needed to top it up during the day. Plus, it's versatile, too; it doubles as a contour (see pic above) and could even be used as eyeshadow. I also love the Red Carpet Ready Matte Muse Lipstick . Its creamy formula glides on my lips easily, leaving them feeling hydrated and full, and I only need two quick swipes to get my preferred tone. The pigment also impressed, lasting for hours, with only a minimal top-up needed during an afternoon and evening out with pals. Amazon and Anthropic announced an expanded partnership that includes Amazon investing another $4 billion in the artificial intelligence company and Anthropic making Amazon Web Services ( AWS ) its primary training partner. The new investment brings Amazon’s total investment in Anthropic to $8 billion, Anthropic said in a Friday (Nov. 22) press release . “By combining Anthropic’s expertise in frontier AI systems with AWS’s world-class infrastructure, we’re building a secure, enterprise-ready platform that gives organizations of all sizes access to the forefront of AI technology,” Anthropic said in the release. The expanded partnership builds on one announced in September 2023 that included Amazon investing $4 billion in Anthropic and Anthropic making AWS its primary cloud partner , Amazon said in a Friday press release . In April, the companies added Anthropic’s Claude family of AI models to Amazon Bedrock , AWS’s fully managed service that provides secure access to foundation models. In their newly expanded partnership, the companies will give AWS customers early access to fine-tune their own data on new Anthropic models as they are released, per the Amazon release. “The response from AWS customers who are developing generative AI applications powered by Anthropic in Amazon Bedrock has been remarkable,” AWS CEO Matt Garman said in the Amazon release. “By continuing to deploy Anthropic models in Amazon Bedrock and collaborating with Anthropic on the development of our custom Trainium chips, we’ll keep pushing the boundaries of what customers can achieve with generative AI technologies.” Millions of end users and tens of thousands of customers — including startups, enterprises and government institutions — are using Anthropic’s Claude in Amazon Bedrock , according to the Amazon release. The announcement came two days after the U.S. Department of Justice proposed to force Google to unwind its partnership with Anthropic as part of a proposal to resolve an antitrust case against Google. It also came three days after the United Kingdom’s competition watchdog, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), cleared Google’s partnership with Anthropic, saying the deal between the tech giant and the AI startup did not warrant additional investigation. Among foundation models , Anthropic’s enterprise market share increased from 12% in 2023 to 24% this year.DETROIT (AP) — Starting in September of 2027, all new passenger vehicles in the U.S. will have to sound a warning if rear-seat passengers don’t buckle up. The agency estimates that the new rule will save 50 lives per year and prevent 500 injuries when fully in effect, according to a statement. The new rule will apply to passenger cars, trucks, buses except for school buses, and multipurpose vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds. Before the rule, seat belt warnings were required only for the driver’s seat. Under the new rule, outboard front-seat passengers also must get a warning if they don’t fasten their belts. Front-center seats will not get a warning because NHTSA found that it wouldn’t be cost effective. The agency said most vehicles already have warnings for the outboard passenger seats. The rule also lengthens the duration of audio and visual warnings for the driver’s seat. The front-seat rules are effective starting Sept. 1 of 2026. Rear passengers consistently use seat belts at a lower rate than front passengers, the agency says. In 2022, front belt use was just under 92%, while rear use dropped to about 82%. About half of automobile passengers who died in crashes two years ago weren’t wearing belts, according to NHTSA data. The seat belt rule is the second significant regulation to come from NHTSA in the past two months. In November the agency bolstered its five-star auto safety ratings to include driver assistance technologies and pedestrian protection. Safety advocates want the Department of Transportation, which includes NHTSA, to finish several more rules before the end of the Biden administration, because President-elect Donald Trump has said he’s against new government regulations. Cathy Chase, president of Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, urged the department to approve automatic emergency braking for heavy trucks and technology to prevent impaired driving.

The long-shot plan to save TikTok from a US banOffice Heroes Introduces Affordable Automation and Cybersecurity Tools for Small BusinessesTwo matches, two seemingly comfortable wins and producing his best darts when it matters most. It is a formula that represents a satisfactory start to quest for the World Darts Championship, but the blunt truth is that a significant improvement will almost certainly be required to even match last year’s run to the final. Against an opponent old enough to have defeated his grandfather Phil in local leagues around Runcorn, Littler again initially looked jittery on his return to the Alexandra Palace stage before finally beating Ian White – the 54-year-old world No 57 – by four sets to one. That, though, only told a part of the story, with Littler surviving a final-leg shoot-out and shots at double for White to have won two of those sets. Littler’s final average of 97.84 was also the first time in 15 matches that he has dipped below 100 on the PDC tour. That statistic in itself does highlight the extraordinary standards he has set (there have been only five 100-plus averages so far in this year’s entire World Championship) but also underlines how he has seemed decidedly less comfortable than last year. That is hardly surprising, given the chasm of difference between how Littler arrived last year on darts’ biggest stage as an unknown 16-year-old to now, having since won 10 senior tournaments and rightly being installed as the favourite to become the youngest world champion in his sport’s history. After the tense start, it was actually a slightly ironic chant for White that seemed to spur Littler into action. Littler, who always seems to revel in the most raucous atmospheres, briefly joined in by dancing to the fans’ chants before narrowly clinching the first set and then moving through the gears. The highlight was the 14, 13 and 12-dart finishes to sweep through the third set. “It was tough – Ian threw everything at me – I had to stay switched on and the fourth set was massive,” said Littler. “The crowd was good for both me and Ian – if they are chanting his name I am going to hit a 180! I have to improve my doubles but, most importantly, I won.” Littler will now face “Relentless” Ryan Joyce in the fourth round ahead of a potential semi-final against the defending champion Luke Humphries. The presence of the best two players this year at the top of the draw has left Michael van Gerwen looming large on the bottom half and the Dutch three-time world champion also moved safely into the last 16 on Saturday night with a 4-2 win against Brendan Dolan. Littler will return on Monday to face Joyce for a place in the quarter-final, with the highlight on Sunday likely to be the showdown between , the defending champion having accused “Snakebite” of trying to play mind games. 11:08 PM GMT Former BDO world champion Mark Webster on Sky Sports “We can focus on Luke Littler not being at his best but give credit to Ian White and the way he played. It is the standard that he is at when he finishes with almost a 98 average - because he has set standards. “Sometimes when you want to win a title you have got to scrap away.” 11:06 PM GMT Tomorrow’s schedule Jeffrey de Graaf vs Paolo Nebrida R3 Kevin Doets vs Krzysztof Ratajski (31) R3 Dimitri Van den Bergh (11) vs Callan Rydz R3 Ricky Evans vs Robert Owen R3 Jonny Clayton (7) vs Gerwyn Price (10) R4 Luke Humphries (1) vs Peter Wright (17) R4 11:04 PM GMT Today’s results Ryan Joyce 4-3 Ryan Searle Scott Williams 1-4 Ricardo Pietreczko Nathan Aspinall 4-0 Andrew Gilding Chris Dobey 4-2 vs Josh Rock Michael van Gerwen 4-2 Brendan Dolan Luke Littler 4-1 Ian White 11:01 PM GMT The thoughts of Luke Littler “It was definitely tough. Ian threw everything at me. If I hit 180, he would hit back with a 180. I always had to stay switched on. It was a case of settling in quickly. First set was ok and after the first break I was really up for it. When you are 3-1 up you have that feeling, you are only three legs away. I do not think double 20 and double 10 liked me tonight and I do not think I like them! “The crowd were good for both of us. I watched Ryan’s [Joyce] game. He was very good. I know I need to hit my doubles. Most importantly I won tonight.” 10:57 PM GMT Littler into the last-16 Can Littler check out 170 to win the match? He hits treble 20, treble 20 but narrowly misses bullseye for an incredible end to the match. White cannot check out 133, which leaves Littler 25 to win. He hits single five and then lands double ten to win the match 4-1. He will play Ryan Joyce in the next round. A dozen 180s in the match for Littler. He finishes up with an average of 97.84. His first possible checkout is 140 with White off the pace. Littler will not hit 140 but has 80 to win the leg. Littler misses double 10 but hits double five and is now just one leg away from the next round. 10:53 PM GMT Littler (3) *1-1 (1) White Littler fires in a 180 to put the pressure on White. He has 47 to break White’s throw. Littler cannot double 20 or double 10 which gives White the chance of the leg with a checkout of 40 remaining. He gets double 20 to take the leg. 10:50 PM GMT Littler (3) 1-0* (1) White Just one set away from the fourth round, Littler has the throw at the start of the set. He has 91 to win the leg with White not on a finish but he cannot hit double tops. Littler needs double 10 to go 1-0 up in this fifth set but misses. That leaves him double five, which he takes. 10:45 PM GMT Littler takes the fourth set Littler is hitting plenty of 180s but White has the higher average at the moment. White has 110 to claim the set. He hits treble 20, single 10 but misses double tops. That gives Littler the chance to check out 70 and at the second attempt hits double 20 to win set four. He is 3-1 up and just one set away from the fourth round. "He has responded!" Luke Littler is 3-1 up in a VERY close match 🤏 — Sky Sports Darts (@SkySportsDarts) 10:42 PM GMT Littler (2) 2-2* (1) White White hits a 180 of his own and is in with a great chance of breaking the throw. Despite a 180 for Littler, White has the chance of checking out 60 but misses. Littler has one dart at tops to close out the set but wastes it. Over to White for double 10 and he lands it at the second attempt. All to play for for the fourth set. 10:41 PM GMT Littler (2) *2-1 (1) White An eighth maximum in the 15th leg for Littler. With Littler having just 35 remaining, White has 120 to win the leg. He has double tops to win it but misses. Littler then has the chance to take the leg by hitting double 10 and, at the second attempt, delivers. On his own throw coming up, Littler will have the chance to win the set. 10:38 PM GMT Littler (2) 1-1* (1) White Yet another 180 for Littler, who is storming his way to this leg. He has a chance of 130 with the bullseye finish but, with White not on a finish, he just sets up the finish on his next throw. He has double 20 to win the leg and delivers to make it 1-1 in this fourth set. 10:37 PM GMT Littler (2) *0-1 (1) White White is on throw to start the fourth set. Littler lands the 11th 180 of the match between these two. Can White check out 140? No he cannot so Littler requires 74 to break throw. He just misses double 20, giving White a shot at double tops, which he takes. It feels like White needed that one. 10:35 PM GMT Littler takes third set Both players start this leg with 180s. Littler has 88 to claim the third set and, with white needing just 36, the pressure is on. Littler has to hit the bullseye to win the set and he does so. He now leads 2-1 in the match. 10:33 PM GMT Littler (1) *2-0 (1) White Against the throw Littler has a 52 checkout to go 2-0 up in the third set. 12 sets up double tops, which he hits again to go one leg away from taking the third set and he will be on throw. 10:31 PM GMT Littler (1) 1-0* (1) White Despite a 180 from White in that leg, Littler has 40 to win the first leg of this third set. Double tops hit first time and Littler is on the board in the third set. Exactly the response he was after. 10:25 PM GMT White fights back to claim second set Littler lands another 180 to leave him 72 to win the leg. He has double tops to win but goes too high, leaving White with 51 to close out the set. He misses double 10 and wastes the opportunity. Littler misses double 20 and double 10 so White has another chance. He hits double five and the second set goes to White. Game well and truly on. Ian White goes inside D10 but nails D5 and is all square with Luke Littler! ⚖️ — Sky Sports Darts (@SkySportsDarts) 10:23 PM GMT Littler (1) *1-2 (0) White Littler leaves himself 114 to win the leg and hits double tops to take it. He will now be on throw and, if he lands the next leg, it will be all to play for in this set. 10:21 PM GMT Littler (1) 0-2* (0) White Littler makes his second 180 of the match at the start of the second leg. White responds later in the leg with a 180 of his own. Littler needs 125 to win but cannot get it so White requires 86 to go 2-0 up. He hits double 16 and is just one leg away from taking the second set. 10:19 PM GMT Littler (1) *0-1 (0) White White has the throw at the start of this second set. He has 72 to win the first leg of the set but misses double tops. Littler has a 140 checkout but only makes 100. White has 20 for the leg and at the second attempt hits double 10. 10:13 PM GMT Littler wins first set Littler has 52 to win the first set. He hits 12 and then lands double tops to close out the first set. He was 2-1 down but comes back to win the first set. A wobbly first set by Luke Littler - just as last week - but he seemed to come to life when the crowd began chanting for his 54-year-old opponent Ian White, who had a dart at double top to take the lead. The longer matches from the third round onwards should suit Littler, who has definitely looked nervous at the start of both matches, and it would be a surprise if he does not now coast to a comfortable victory. 10:11 PM GMT Littler (0) *2-2 (0) White Ally Pally is serenading Ian White and Littler joins in. The next time he steps up to the oche; he lands his first 180 of the match. White comes so close to taking the first set as he just misses double tops. Will he regret that? Yes he will as Littler steps up to land double ten at the second attempt to win the leg. He will be on throw to win the first set. 10:08 PM GMT Littler (0) 1-2* (0) White A second maximum of the match for White puts the pressure on Littler, who has 170 to win the third leg but cannot land it. White needs 81 to break throw but he just misses the bullseye. Littler misses double tops to hand White the chance to win the leg. White misses double four and double two which hands Littler the chance for the leg but he goes bust. White finally lands double one and breaks throw. He is just one leg away from the first set. Littler got off to a slow start in his second round match. 10:06 PM GMT Littler (0) *1-1 (0) White White lands the first 180 of the match. Littler is all over the place in this leg, nowhere near it, which allows White to easily finish with double tops to check out 55. White takes the second leg. 10:04 PM GMT Littler (0) 1-0* (0) White The crowd serenade Littler before the match starts with , which used to be Phil Taylor’s song. Littler will have the throw to start the match. Littler’s first checkout of the match is 148. He is under no pressure with White not on a finish but he cannot land it. 60 to win the first leg but he cannot do that either. White cannot finish either so eventually Littler hits double seven to win the first leg. 09:59 PM GMT Walk-ons Here come the players for the final match of the night. He is two sets to one up and looks in a good spot to win the fourth set. 09:15 PM GMT Today’s schedule Ryan Joyce 4-3 Ryan Searle Scott Williams 1-4 Ricardo Pietreczko Nathan Aspinall 4-0 Andrew Gilding Chris Dobey 4-2 vs Josh Rock Michael van Gerwen 2-1 Brendan Dolan (ongoing) Luke Littler (4) vs Ian White R3 08:42 PM GMT Littler back in action Luke Littler is in round three action at Alexandra Palace tonight as he takes on Ian White for a place in the fourth round. There is a personal link between these players despite the 37-year age difference. 17-year-old Littler’s grandfather played against White in matches between Egerton and Albion, and they were teammates when representing the Cheshire town of Runcorn in local tournaments. Littler began his quest to go one step better than he did last year by beating Ryan Meikle 3-1 in the second round a week ago. After a slow start in that match, he ended up racing to victory due to an incredible fourth set average of 140.91 and was visibly emotional after the match, even though his progression was expected. We have seen two nine-darters so far at the World Championships courtesy of Christian Kist and Damon Heta. Littler came so close to a nine-darter of his own in his second round match against Meikle and he wants to secure his fifth nine-darter of the year. “I watched it [Kist’s nine-darter] at my friend’s house and I’ve not missed a session, apart from the evening when Ryan [Meikle] played Fallon [Sherrock],” said Littler. “I just looked at my mate and I was like ‘how’s he done that?
