Mono Next Plc (MONO) is considering legal action against the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), saying the bourse's announcement on Dec 3 about irregular trading of the digital TV operator's shares caused unnecessary panic among investors and affected its share price. Navamin Prasopnet, acting chief executive of the media and content firm, clarified that the changes in the trading conditions of its ordinary shares are based on external factors and circumstances beyond the company's control. MONO considers the SET's actions to be excessive and lacking appropriate consideration of their impact on both investors and the company, he said. The company is considering exercising its legal rights regarding actions that caused damage to the company and its shareholders in order to protect their interests, Mr Navamin reported via the SET website yesterday. The SET on Tuesday announced that MONO is subject to Level 1 trading control measures from Nov 27 to Dec 17, 2024, as the bourse identified certain groups of individuals who may reasonably be believed to have acted in concert, engaging in substantial daily transactions of the shares. Mr Navamin said the warning caused unnecessary panic and disproportionate harm, adversely affecting the company's stock price and investor confidence in the company and its securities, without sufficient legal justification. "Should the SET possess clear evidence indicating violations of applicable laws, it is obligated to report such incidents to the Securities and Exchange Commission for further legal action," he said. Such warnings require a higher degree of caution because they may have a widespread impact on investors, said Mr Navamin. According to the SET's statement, MONO's share price and trading value soared daily for four business days until Dec 2, rising 31.5% since the trading control measures took effect, without any new material information during the period. The high turnover may indicate higher speculation, as the daily turnover percentage increased continuously from an average of 0.75% before the measures to 3.04%, noted the bourse. The SET identified a group of people trading roughly 15% of the total trading value each day, contributing to the upward price movement. The bourse said if the trading conditions of MONO securities are still abnormal without supporting fundamental factors, the stock will be upgraded from Level 1 control measures to Level 2, in accordance with market surveillance protocols. Level 1 trading control measures prohibit credit limit calculation and requires 100% cash payment for trading of such shares. Level 2 measures comprise the prohibition of net settlement, exclusion from credit limit calculation, a cash balance requirement and use of the auction-only trade method.

In 2013, I taught a critical thinking class where I used the topic of abortion to explore intellectual bravery and cognitive dissonance. Students were tasked with arguing both extremes of the abortion debate: total opposition to abortion under any circumstances, and complete support for abortion on demand. One Catholic student, who opposed abortion in all cases, was asked to consider a scenario: if her 8-year-old sister were raped and impregnated by an HIV-positive drug addict, would she support the child carrying the pregnancy? The question visibly distressed her, to the point where I feared she might have a breakdown. This reaction illustrates what happens when deeply held beliefs clash with challenging realities. Often, people either experience emotional turmoil or resist changing their beliefs, even when faced with contradictory facts. Much of our beliefs come from our cultural or political groups or people in our circle, and not on factual evidence and sound bible teaching. In the U.S., the white church is largely pro-life and Republican, while the black church is mostly pro-choice and Democrat, making them political opponents. Each side garners support from different factions, but this rivalry shifts the Christian focus from faith to political power. Achieving political influence requires winning hearts and minds, yet Jesus said His followers would be hated by all. How can Christians seek worldly approval and still align with The Kingdom of God? Key question: Is the Christian church’s position on abortion a matter of justice, morality, or is it just political? So, we as Christians conclude that this is a gift never to be taken. And I agree. You see the beauty and magnificence of the birth process in Psalm 139:13-16: “For you created my inmost being you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Sperm must be deposited and transported to the site of fertilization. Ovulation must occur and the egg must be “picked up” by the tube. [For] Fertilization and embryo development, the sperm and egg must unite to create a zygote. [For all that to transpire], Intercourse must occur around the time of ovulation (UCSF Health). Then, when we think about development in the womb, the thinking is about “the tiny heartbeat, the gentle kicks, and even the shared rhythm between mother and child. These are reminders of the deep interconnectedness of life” (ChatGPT). It is hard to think about disturbing such beauty and magnificence. Aborting that is a serious action. Knowing this, does a woman have the prerogative to abort a child just because she wants to, knowing that even some children born out of vile situations such as rape, have turned out to be outstanding and productive people. My cousin once gave a testimony based on him being an indirect product of rape. His mother was the direct product of that rape. However, his mother rose out of that situation to give birth to some beautiful and well-adjusted children. He has climbed the ladder to the ruling class of his homeland. What if his mother was aborted at birth? Think of any reasonable argument for abortion, if you were that baby, would you still encourage your abortion? Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY): Supports the right to abortion without restriction. Do you agree that justice is served if there is no legal or moral restriction on abortion? Do you believe that a mother has the right to have six consecutive abortions? Does a mother have the right to abort a baby who is already kicking in her stomach? Will a section of the world hate me, if I cry Justice for the unborn child? Yes, they will! But is the baby the only one who requires Justice? Based on the scripture included in this message, the Roman Catholic Church, the Evangelical Church and the Fundamentalist Protestants firmly oppose abortion in all circumstances. They advocate for strict legal prohibitions. And their stance is based on the same set of scriptures. For example, Jeremiah 1:5: Before you were in the tomb, I knew you. But realise that God is saying this to Jeremiah as a grown man, not a child. This goes to support the value of human life, and that it is not exclusive to the unborn. God is expressing love for Jeremiah’s entire Journey, starting from before birth. Yet, based on pro-life Christians’ interpretation of the above scripture, these bible verses apply to the unborn only. Can we apply those same biblical passages to the mother? Psalms 139 says “For you created my inmost being you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” • Just as the unborn fetus is knit together in the mother’s womb, so too is the mother. • Just as the child is wonderfully and beautifully made, so too is the mother. • Just as the fetus is created in the image of God, so too is the mother. The mother’s life is as valuable as the child’s. Does God value someone in the womb and as the person ages, the value reduces? Now, in this case, if you follow a comprehensive ban on abortion as some Christians propose, by default, you are aborting the mother and the healthy child. If the sick baby is not aborted, both the healthy baby and the mother will die. • You cry life for the child, where is the protection for the mother’s life? • You say mercy for the baby, but where is the mother’s grace? • You campaign to protect the fetus, where is the safeguard for his mother’s life? • You cry Justice for the child, but where is the Justice for his mother? The whole process of protection for early life is to ensure they become fully mature adults, but does the value of a person’s life decrease as she gets older? There is no way that the world would like the church if it applied justice to the abortion debate as a standard – Equal protection for both mother and child. If I said that I agreed with abortion, one set of people would dislike me. If I disagreed with abortion, advocates, the pro-life folks would oppose me. Most importantly, when circumstances are at a juncture where between the child and mother, only one life can be saved, who is to make that decision? If you save the child, the mother dies, if you save the mother, the child dies; whose decision is that to make? The president, the state, the prime minister, or is that the sacred choice of the mother? What is justice in those scenarios? The Bible says, “Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream” Amos 5:24. Would the church be loved if it preached justice in equal measures for both mother and child?

He said many individuals in rural areas lack access to debit or credit cards due to limited banking infrastructure and connectivity issues. Similarly, senior citizens, who may not be familiar with cashless systems, risk being excluded from essential medical services if the transition is too abrupt. “A sudden shift to cashless payments creates unnecessary stress, especially during emergencies when patients or their families might rely on cash as the primary mode of payment. “It is crucial to ensure that technology does not become a barrier to accessing healthcare,” he said. Tiong thus urged the hospital authorities to consider introducing a grace period, adding that temporary cash payment counters should remain operational for at least six months. “This would allow the public to gradually adapt to the cashless system while ensuring uninterrupted access to medical services. “The hospital should also have a special consideration for senior citizens and allow them to continue using cash temporarily during the transition period until they are fully equipped to adapt to the new system,” he said. “Alternatively, introduce S Pay. As Sarawak’s local digital payment platform, S Pay has been widely adopted across various sectors in the state. “By incorporating S Pay as a payment option, hospitals can further lower the barriers to cashless payments, especially for residents familiar with this local digital service,” he added. The issue of releasing alleged repeat offenders and how bail and other forms of release are granted have become hot-button political issues locally and nationally in recent years, following public scrutiny of cases in which individuals accused of violent offences have gone on to be charged in further bloodshed after being let out on conditions. Canada’s premiers have made requests to the federal Liberal government for changes to the bail system. The Winnipeg Police Service says it is mandated by law to use custody as a last resort and to release charged persons on the least onerous conditions possible prior to their court date. (John Woods / The Canadian Press files) Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has pledged to make “jail, not bail” for repeat offenders the law if elected prime minister. In Manitoba, Justice Minister Matt Wiebe announced a plan earlier this year meant to encourage Crown attorneys to more stringently approach bail, though some prosecutors privately panned the policy. The WPS argues its hands are tied by recent Criminal Code amendments in how supervising officers determine who to release and who to detain, with news releases frequently including a line that says the release of suspects on undertakings or appearance notices are “mandated” by the law. But current Manitoba prosecutors and a University of Manitoba law professor who recently spoke to the say that’s a misinterpretation. Police can decide to release an individual on an undertaking or appearance notice at their discretion, which both require attendance in court, or recommend to Crown prosecutors they be detained. If they’re detained, the accused will then be granted a hearing, where the courts will determine whether to grant bail pending further proceedings. WPS Sgt. Grant Lindgren, who worked in the city police central processing unit for a long time, said Criminal Code amendments that followed two 2017 Supreme Court decisions have fundamentally changed how police make decisions regarding detention and release. “Detention is absolute, 100 per cent, last resort.... We’re obligated, bound by law, to release people as early as possible on the least onerous conditions,” said Lindgren. “Most importantly, our grounds for detaining somebody have to be on objective, reasonable grounds to believe that they pose a continued risk.” He said, as a supervisor, when one of his officers makes an arrest, he must take into account what the person’s record of criminal convictions for related offences is, whether they’re reasonably likely to attend court and if they’re a reasonable and objective risk to public safety or for reoffending, among other considerations. Lindgren added that now, following the law amendments, police are able to impose certain release conditions, such as curfews, that they were unable to prior. “There are a lot of what-ifs — but we can’t base an objective decision on a what-if scenario,” said Lindgren. “What-ifs are always concerning, because human nature is such that we (develop) an idea based on what might happen, but the principles of justice are such that your Charter rights are based on what is, not what if; it’s just that simple.” One Crown attorney told the it was “crap” that police “keep blaming it on the code” when they release an accused person alleged to have committed a crime of violence. “The code allows for us to detain people when there is violence,” the prosecutor said, speaking on the condition of anonymity. “There are definitely times they release people and say it is because of the code, and that is not accurate.” U of M law professor Brandon Trask, who used to work as a Crown attorney in the Maritimes, said he finds the police use of the term “mandated” concerning. “It’s concerning that the public is being left with the impression that our law mandates release. Our law, generally speaking, does not mandate release — that’s a judgment call,” said Trask. “In a lot of cases, that’s simply not accurate, and I’m puzzled as to why the police keep saying an individual’s release was mandated. There are pathways in our Criminal Code... to take a person into custody.” Police have “ultimate discretion” to release an accused on an undertaking as they see fit, a second Crown attorney said. “They can release them on an undertaking without referring to us at all,” the prosecutor said. Lindgren said that he thinks the police service is interpreting the Criminal Code accurately. “If somebody says down the road, you didn’t interpret it correctly, then that’s their prerogative.” Winnipeg defence lawyer Chris Gamby said bail and other forms of release pending trial underpin Canada’s justice system — and emphasized it’s a Charter right.
