Daily Post Nigeria Gov Okpebholo squandered over N30bn left by Obaseki in 14 days – PDP alleges Home News Politics Metro Entertainment Sport Politics Gov Okpebholo squandered over N30bn left by Obaseki in 14 days – PDP alleges Published on November 26, 2024 By Enahoro Iyemefokhai Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led government of squandering over N30 billion left in the state’s coffer by the immediate past government of Godwin Obaseki, two weeks after he was sworn-in as governor. DAILY POST reports that the caretaker committee chairman of the party in the State Dr Anthony Aziegbemi made the allegation at a press conference titled, “State of the Nation Address”. Aziegbemi alleged that the money was spent by the governor to compensate “godfathers” who worked for him during the September 21, 2024, governorship election The PDP caretaker committee chairman, who accused the APC-led government of not paying the state’s civil and public workers the November monthly salary, noted that the development was contrary to the record set by the former PDP-led government under the Governor Godwin Obaseki where the state’s workers received monthly salary on or before 26th of every month. He also alleged that the APC-led government in the state had within two weeks in office procured over N5 billion worth of vehicles without a proper procurement process. Aziegbemi, who further alleged that Governor Monday Okpebholo’s government was desperately looking for ways to pass entries for over N2 billion as inauguration costs, opined that the Edo State Procurement Act was at risk. According to him, “for 8 years the PDP-led administration paid salaries on or before the 25th of every month, and as of today, they have not been able to pay November salaries even though the Obaseki-led PDP administration left over N30bn in the state coffers. “What have they done with that money? They have filtered the money away and shared it with their godfathers for the roles they played in circumventing the will of the people “We are aware that as we speak, nobody in the state has received any credit alert for the payment of November 2024 salary. The government of Godwin Obaseki paid salary 26th of every month “Governor Okpebholo has procured over N5bn worth of vehicles without proper procurement process which has created a crisis to the extent that the Permanent Secretary Governor’s office is threatening civil servants in Central administration for refusing to accept vehicles due to improper documentation, while desperately looking for ways to pass entries for over N2bn of inauguration costs.” Responding to the allegations, the Edo State Government said Governor Monday Okpebholo would expose PDP’s eight-year rot in the state. A statement by Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, noted that no amount of blackmail would stop the Okpebholo-led administration from recovering the commonwealth of the people from a few dubious men. Itua posited that the 14-day government of Monday Okpebholo was in a hurry to develop Edo State and had remained undaunted in living up to the people’s expectations. Oklahoma's throwback offensive approach against Alabama gets LSU's attentionLISBON, Portugal (AP) — Arsenal defender Gabriel kept Viktor Gyokeres quiet — then had the audacity to steal the in-demand Sporting Lisbon striker's trademark goal celebration. After heading in Arsenal's third first-half goal in the Champions League on Tuesday, Gabriel linked the fingers of his hands and placed them over his eyes, before laughing with his teammates. It was most likely a dig at Gyokeres, the Sweden striker who has quickly become one of European soccer's hottest properties . That is how Gyokeres celebrates his goals — and he has scored plenty of those this season. Gyokeres has scored 24 goals for Sporting in all competitions and was coming off netting four for Sweden in a Nations League match against Azerbaijan. Earlier in the first half, Gabriel had enjoyed tackling and dispossessing Gyokeres near the Arsenal area — waving both his arms in a gesture to the crowd. Gabriel's goal made it 3-0 to Arsenal at halftime and the English team went on to win 5-1, with Gyokeres failing to score. He did hit the post with a shot late in the game, however — after Gabriel had gone off with an injury. AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccer
France has a new government, again. Politics and crushing debt complicate next stepsIranian authorities have lifted a ban on Meta’s instant messaging platform WhatsApp and Google Play, as a first step to scale back internet restrictions, Iranian state media reported on Tuesday. The Islamic Republic has some of the strictest controls on Internet access in the world, but its blocks on US-based social media such as Facebook , Twitter and YouTube are routinely bypassed by tech-savvy Iranians using virtual private networks. “A positive majority vote has been reached to lift limitations on access to some popular foreign platforms such as WhatsApp and Google Play”, Iran’s official IRNA news agency said on Tuesday, referring to a meeting on the matter headed by President Masoud Pezeshkian. “Today the first step in removing internet limitations... has been taken,” IRNA cited Iran’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology Sattar Hashemi as saying. Social media platforms were widely used in anti-government protests in Iran. In September the United States called on Big Tech to help evade online censorship in countries that heavily censor the internet, including Iran.
Donald Trump's incoming "border czar", Tom Homan, has claimed that the US government "can't find" more than 300,000 migrant children - and that many have been lured into forced labour and sex trafficking. President-Elect Donald Trump and his political allies, including Vice-President-Elect JD Vance, have repeatedly made similar claims. Experts have accused them of distorting statistics to claim that the children are "lost" and victims of crime, although they agreed that aspects of the system need to be changed. The incoming administration has made immigration enforcement a priority, promising to clamp down on the US-Mexico border and conduct mass deportations of undocumented immigrants. Let's take a look at the claims of missing migrant children. In an interview with Fox News on 26 November - just before a visit to the US-Mexico border in Texas - Homan accused the Biden administration of "bragging" about how quickly children are released from custody, as well as "not properly vetting" adult sponsors in the US. "Shame on them," he said of the Biden administration. "They have over 300,000 children that they have released [to] unvetted sponsors that they can't find." "Many are going to be in forced labour. Many forced sex trade," Homan added. "We need to save these children." In his October debate against Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, JD Vance also said that the Department of Homeland Security "effectively lost" a total of 320,000 migrant children. Concerns over the plight of migrant children were also starkly highlighted earlier this week when authorities in Texas shared an image of a two-year-old girl from El Salvador found at the border clutching a piece of paper with a phone number. “Putting optics over safety has led to countless children in danger or unaccounted for," Tennessee Republican representative Mark Green told the New York Post. "This refusal to protect vulnerable alien children from abuse, exploitation, and human trafficking will be one of the defining failures of the Biden-Harris administration.” Unaccompanied minors detained at the US-Mexico border go through a complicated process that begins with detention and processing by Customs and Border Patrol, or CBP. If the child is from a foreign country that is not Mexico or Canada, they are placed into removal proceedings and transferred to the US Department of Health and Human Services, or HHS. HHS, through its Office of Refugee Resettlement office, cares for the children in a network of state-licensed providers. The office also seeks to reunify children with family members in the US or with individual or organisational sponsors - who in turn are obligated to ensure they arrive at immigration court dates. According to immigration experts and attorneys, the claims largely stem from an August report from the Department of Homeland Security's inspector general's office, which found that 32,000 unaccompanied minors failed to show up for court dates at immigration courts. The report noted that 291,000 migrant children had failed to be given court notices at all. Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, policy director at the American Immigration Council, a non-partisan organisation that conducts research and advocates for an overhaul of the US immigration system, told the BBC that the figures are indicative of a bureaucratic "paperwork issue" rather than "anything nefarious". "When you hear the phrase 'missing', you think that there is a child that someone is trying to find and can't," he said. "That's not the case here. The government has not made any effort to find these children." Many of the children, experts say, may well be at the addresses that are on file with the government, but were simply unable to make their court dates. "That doesn't mean something bad happened to them," Mr Reichlin-Melnick said. "It means you missed a court hearing." Mr Reichlin-Melnick added that there are "valid concerns" about exploitation. "We cannot, however, suggest that all 320,000 of those children are being labour trafficked," he said. Eric Ruark, an immigration researcher with NumbersUSA - which calls for tighter border controls - said that the children are difficult to track "because of some combination of apathy, incompetence and bureaucratic inefficiency". "Many, hopefully even most, are safe with caring sponsors," he added. "But the Biden administration can't actually say one way or the other, and apparently doesn't care enough to find out." Homan and other Trump administration officials have so far not provided many details about how they plan to address the issues that plague the detention of undocumented minors. Several immigration attorneys contacted by the BBC suggested that the administration is likely to make becoming a "sponsor" for undocumented children much more difficult, even if the sponsor is a member of their family. In practice, this would mean that more undocumented children are kept in detention. "They could do what the Obama administration did, and detain them," said Alexander Cuic, an immigration attorney and professor at Case Western Reserve University. The controversial "Remain in Mexico" programme could also be applied to children, forcing them to wait across the border for the outcome of immigration proceedings. "I'm not sure even they know what they're going to do with the kids," Mr Cuic said of the Trump administration. "But there's a border problem they're trying to figure out first, and that's the first concern before whether they're going to be harsh to both children and adults." The BBC has contacted the Trump transition team for comment.Trump has promised again to release the last JFK files. But experts say don’t expect big revelations
Netflix is hosting the NFL and Beyoncé. But is its tech ready for prime time?Former Boise State coach Chris Petersen still gets asked about the Fiesta Bowl victory over Oklahoma on the first day of 2007. That game had everything. Underdog Boise State took a 28-10 lead over one of college football's blue bloods that was followed by a 25-point Sooners run capped by what could have been a back-breaking interception return for a touchdown with 1:02 left. Then the Broncos used three trick plays that remain sensations to not only force overtime but win 43-42. And then there was the marriage proposal by Boise State running back Ian Johnson — shortly after scoring the winning two-point play — to cheerleader Chrissy Popadics that was accepted on national TV. That game put Broncos football on the national map for most fans, but looking back 18 years later, Petersen sees it differently. “Everybody wants to talk about that Oklahoma Fiesta Bowl game, which is great how it all worked out and all those things,” Petersen said. “But we go back to play TCU (three years later) again on the big stage. It's not as flashy a game, but to me, that was an even better win.” Going back to the Fiesta Bowl and winning, Petersen reasoned, showed the Broncos weren't a splash soon to fade away, that there was something longer lasting and more substantive happening on the famed blue turf. The winning has continued with few interruptions. No. 8 and third-seeded Boise State is preparing for another trip to the Fiesta Bowl, this time in a playoff quarterfinal against No. 5 and sixth-seeded Penn State on New Year's Eve. That success has continued through a series of coaches, though with a lot more of a common thread than readily apparent. Dirk Koetter was hired from Oregon, where Petersen was the wide receivers coach. Not only did Koetter bring Petersen with him to Oregon, Petersen introduced him to Dan Hawkins, who also was hired for the staff. So the transition from Koetter to Hawkins to Petersen ensured at least some level of consistency. Koetter and Hawkins engineered double-digit victory seasons five times over a six-year span that led to power-conference jobs. Koetter went to Arizona State after three seasons and Hawkins to Colorado after five. Then when Petersen became the coach after the 2005 season, he led Boise State to double-digit wins his first seven seasons and made bowls all eight years. He resisted the temptation to leave for a power-conference program until Washington lured him away toward the end of the 2013 season. Then former Boise State quarterback and offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin took over and posted five double-digit victory seasons over his first six years. After going 5-2 during the COVID-shortened 2020 season, he left for Auburn. “They just needed consistency of leadership,” said Koetter, who is back as Boise State's offensive coordinator. “This program had always won at the junior-college level, the Division II level, the I-AA (now FCS) level.” But Koetter referred to “an unfortunate chain of events” that made Boise State a reclamation project when he took over in 1998. Coach Pokey Allen led Boise State to the Division I-AA national championship game in 1994, but was diagnosed with cancer two days later. He died on Dec. 30, 1996, at 53. Allen coached the final two games that season, Boise State's first in Division I-A (now FBS). Houston Nutt became the coach in 1997, went 4-7 and headed to Arkansas. Then Koetter took over. “One coach dies and the other wasn't the right fit for this program,” Koetter said. “Was a really good coach, did a lot of good things, but just wasn't a good fit for here.” But because of Boise State's success at the lower levels, Koetter said the program was set up for success. “As Boise State has risen up the conference food chain, they’ve pretty much always been at the top from a player talent standpoint,” Koetter said. “So it was fairly clear if we got things headed in the right direction and did a good job recruiting, we would be able to win within our conference for sure.” Success didn't take long. He went 6-5 in 1998 and then won 10 games each of the following two seasons. Hawkins built on that winning and Petersen took it to another level. But there is one season, really one game, no really one half that still bugs Petersen. He thought his best team was in 2010, one that entered that late-November game at Nevada ranked No. 3 and had a legitimate chance to play for the national championship. The Colin Kaepernick-led Wolf Pack won 34-31. “I think the best team that I might've been a part of as the head coach was the team that lost one game to Nevada,” Petersen said. "That team, to me, played one poor half of football on offense the entire season. We were winning by a bunch at half (24-7) and we came out and did nothing on offense in the second half and still had a chance to win. “That team would've done some damage.” There aren't any what-ifs with this season's Boise State team. The Broncos are in the field of the first 12-team playoff, representing the Group of Five as its highest-ranked conference champion. That got Boise State a bye into the quarterfinals. Spencer Danielson has restored the championship-level play after taking over as the interim coach late last season during a rare downturn that led to Andy Avalos' dismissal . Danielson received the job full time after leading Boise State to the Mountain West championship . Now the Broncos are 12-1 with their only defeat to top-ranked and No. 1 seed Oregon on a last-second field goal . Running back Ashton Jeanty also was the runner-up to the Heisman Trophy . “Boise State has been built on the backs of years and years of success way before I got here,” Danielson said. "So even this season is not because of me. It’s because the group of young men wanted to leave a legacy, be different. We haven’t been to the Fiesta Bowl in a decade. They said in January, ‘We’re going to get that done.’ They went to work.” As was the case with Danielson, Petersen and Koetter said attracting top talent is the primary reason Boise State has succeeded all these years. Winning, obviously, is the driving force, and with more entry points to the playoffs, the Broncos could make opportunities to keep returning to the postseason a selling point. But there's also something about the blue carpet. Petersen said he didn't get what it was about when he arrived as an assistant coach, and there was some talk about replacing it with more conventional green grass. A poll in the Idaho Statesman was completely against that idea, and Petersen has come to appreciate what that field means to the program. “It's a cumulative period of time where young kids see big-time games when they're in seventh and eighth and ninth and 10th grade and go, ‘Oh, I know that blue turf. I want to go there,’” Petersen said. Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here . - Leading efficient care management for the elderly with unimpeded smartcar e h ttps://img.hankyung.com/pdsdata/pr.hankyung.com/uploads/2024/11/image01-1.png SEOUL, South Korea , Nov. 23, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- JCF Technology is a startup that independently developed 'MecKare', a radar sensor that measures biological signals in a non-contact manner, and provides a platform service that automatically connects users and guardians in two-way emergency situations through an artificial intelligence analysis system. Since its establishment in 2016, it has developed a highly accurate non-contact multi-biological radar sensor through many years of technology accumulation, and succeeded in commercializing the product for the first time in 2021. MecKare uses microwave radar and micro-Doppler signal processing technology to measure the user's heart rate, respiratory rate, and skin temperature within 16.4 ft in real time. The sensor can measure human body movement patterns using precise and highly responsive thermal infrared rays and can detect falls through pattern analysis based on changes in human movement. In particular, the movement and change of thermal infrared rays within the measurement range are detected in real time, and the trend of biomarkers that appear as advance signs before a person falls can be checked through differential motion detection that measures the user's movement pattern. It provides an alarm in advance by predicting before a person falls, enabling accuracy and quick response to accidents. As a result, it is possible to prevent safety accidents in the elderly by detecting emergency situations such as lonely death, cardiac arrest, breathing difficulties, and falls. Additionally, unlike other existing wearable devices such as smart watches or bands, MecKare does not need to be worn or attached to the body, so it can be used remotely via Wi-Fi without causing stress to the user. https://img.hankyung.com/pdsdata/pr.hankyung.com/uploads/2024/11/image02.png MecKare can be installed in the bedroom, bathroom, living room, or entrance of a home or facilities(Assisted Living, Nursing Home, etc) to provide 24-hour monitoring without a camera and detect abnormal signs in advance using a biometric information analysis algorithm and deliver them to the guardian. MecKare's radar biometric sensor is recognized in the global market for its technology as a device that obtains precisely customized biometric information while overcoming spatial constraints and without risk of privacy infringement. MecKare is being supplied to senior care facilities in Australia , Germany , Poland , Saudi Arabia , and China . In 2025, MecKare plans to conduct verification of vital signs such as attendance, fall prevention, and asthma of elderly people living in hospitals or assisted living in conjunction with local PPOs/HMOs in the United States . In summary, MecKare is a system that reduces user inconvenience and enables management of multiple patients. By being able to provide personalized health data analysis results, it will serve as an opportunity to change the market paradigm towards preventive smart care. We expect MecKare's A.I to play a role as an innovator that complements, rather than replaces, humans in care settings. With a market capitalization of $10 billion, Hyperliquid has joined the top 20 cryptocurrencies, demonstrating its enormous development potential. HYPE’s success is driven by its novel fee-to-buyback mechanism, which uses 100% of trading fees to buy back tokens. This generates persistent buying pressure, effectively raising the token’s price. Recently, Hyperliquid used $3 million in trading fees to fund buybacks, resulting in a 63% surge in just one week. HYPE’s airdrop program has also contributed to its spectacular rise. The airdrop distributed 270 million tokens to 94,000 eligible users, increasing community participation and driving instant demand. Furthermore, Hyperliquid has processed $16 billion in continuous trade volume, establishing itself as a decentralized alternative to Binance. HYPE is expected to continue its upward trend with the imminent HyperEVM launch, which promises greater capability and compatibility. Analysts forecast a spike to $60 or more by mid-2025, positioning it as a strong contender for spectacular growth in the following months. Bitget Coin (BGB): Dominates the Exchange Token Market Bitget Coin (BGB) has solidified its position as one of 2024’s best-performing exchange tokens, with a staggering 400% year-to-date return. Starting the year at $0.57, BGB surged to an all-time high of $3.3 in December, outperforming competitors such as Binance’s BNB and OKB. Bitget’s creative methods, such as creating BGB perpetual futures and staking options like Launchpad and PoolX, have increased BGB’s value. These advantages have attracted both retail and institutional investors, increasing the token’s adoption and trading volume by 190% this year. Bitget’s rapid expansion into emerging markets has also significantly contributed to BGB’s success. Localized campaigns and specialized services have increased the platform’s user base, while the ongoing cryptocurrency bull market has strengthened investor confidence. Due to strong demand and ongoing product innovation, analysts expect BGB to reach $5 by mid-2025. Its excellent foundations make it an appealing investment for individuals seeking exposure to the thriving exchange token industry. Conclusion As the cryptocurrency market prepares for a bullish January 2025, Rexas Finance , Hyperliquid, and Bitget Coin stand out as high-potential bets capable of achieving 1500% or more gains.
