VANCOUVER, BC , Dec. 11, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- (TSX: LUN) (Nasdaq Stockholm: LUMI) Lundin Mining Corporation ("Lundin Mining" or the "Company") announces that the Toronto Stock Exchange (the "TSX") has accepted the notice of Lundin Mining's intention to renew its normal course issuer bid (the "NCIB"). View PDF The Company intends to continue to utilize the NCIB at its discretion to make opportunistic purchases to create shareholder value and manage the number of outstanding common shares of the Company (the "Common Shares"). This approval allows the Company to purchase up to 57,597,388 Common Shares, representing 10% of the 776,914,637 issued and outstanding Common Shares as of December 6, 2024 , minus those Common Shares beneficially owned, or over which control or direction is exercised by the Company, the senior officers and directors of the Company and every shareholder who owns or exercises control or direction over more than 10% of the outstanding Common Shares, over a period of twelve months commencing on December 16, 2024 . The NCIB will expire no later than December 15, 2025 . All purchases made pursuant to the NCIB will be made on the open market through the facilities of the TSX, other designated exchanges and/or alternative Canadian trading systems or by such other means as may be permitted by applicable securities laws. In accordance with TSX rules, any daily purchases (other than pursuant to a block purchase exemption) on the TSX under the NCIB are limited to a maximum of 560,989 Common Shares, which represents 25% of the average daily trading volume of 2,243,957 Common Shares on the TSX for the six months ended November 30, 2024 . The price that Lundin Mining will pay for Common Shares in open market transactions will be the market price at the time of purchase. In connection with the NCIB renewal, Lundin Mining entered into an automatic share purchase plan ("ASPP") with its designated broker to allow for the repurchase of Common Shares at times when the Company ordinarily would not be active in the market due to its own internal trading blackout periods, insider trading rules or otherwise (any such period being a "Blackout Period"). Before entering a Blackout Period, the Company may, but is not required to, instruct the designated broker to make purchases under the NCIB in accordance with the terms of the plan. At this time, the Company has not instructed the broker to actively repurchase Common Shares. Purchases made pursuant to the plan, if any, will be made by the Company's designated broker based upon the parameters prescribed by the TSX, applicable Canadian securities laws and the terms of the written agreement entered between the Company and its designated broker. Outside of these Blackout Periods, Common Shares will be purchasable by Lundin Mining at its discretion under its NCIB. The ASPP will terminate on the earliest of the date on which: (i) the purchase limit under the NCIB has been reached; (ii) the NCIB expires; and (iii) the ASPP otherwise terminates in accordance with its terms. The ASPP constitutes an "automatic plan" for purposes of applicable Canadian securities legislation and the agreement governing the plan has been pre-cleared by the TSX. The actual number of Common Shares that may be purchased and the timing of such purchases will be determined by the Company. Decisions regarding purchases will be based on market conditions, share price, best use of available cash, and other factors. Any Common Shares that are purchased under the NCIB will be cancelled. Under the Company's previous NCIB that commenced on December 11, 2023 and expired on December 10, 2024 , the Company sought and received approval from the TSX to purchase up to 52,538,870 Common Shares. The Company purchased nil Common Shares under its previous NCIB through open market transactions. NoneBy Peter Moses The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako, has told Nigerians that the reforms of President Bola Tinubu will bring them succour in no distant future. He urged them to exercise patience with the administration in addressing challenges confronting the nation. The minister disclosed this during the distribution of subsidy removal palliatives and free medical services, held at the Omidokun Hall, in Ayetoro, the headquarters of Yewa North Local Government Area of the State. Salako- explained that the rice and fertilizers distribution was one of the steps taken to address food crisis by the Tinubu government, assuring that the economic hardship in the country would soon become a thing of the past. The minister explained that the 1,300 bags of rice were distributed to the five local government areas in Ogun West Senatorial District to party members and leaders, market women, religious organisations, traditional rulers, community leaders and farmers in the areas. He said, “On the ground, we have 1,300 bags of rice and 600 bags of fertilizer. Our party members are benefiting 30 percent of the palliatives, then the market women, whose coordinator is the Iyaloja will also benefit. The Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Muslim Communities will not be left out. “We will also reach out to individual leaders in the five LGs. Our Baales and traditional rulers are also beneficiaries. Basically, what we have done is to at least ensure that representatives of the identified groups are on ground to receive on behalf of their members. We have adopted this method to avoid stampedes which have greeted similar distributions of food and other items in some locations in the country. “We have arranged it in a manner that items going to each section have been loaded into different vehicles and labeled accordingly, and the persons who will receive the items have been introduced to the drivers of those vehicles. All these are to ensure orderliness. On the yuletide message of President Tinubu, Salako said: “Basically, the message of Mr President is for everyone to have Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in advance. “Mr President also wants everyone to be joyous and to be careful to take caution in everything we do by not compromising security. He also wants us to be praying for Nigeria. “Mr President said he is beating his chest to all Nigerians that things are getting better and things will get far better than the current situation. He is confident that all the reforms he has done, things will get better and Nigerians will begin to live a better life soon”. Kellogg, who is one of the architects of a staunchly conservative policy book that lays out an “America First” national security agenda for the incoming administration, will come into the role as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine enters its third year in February. Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social account, and said “He was with me right from the beginning! Together, we will secure PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH, and Make America, and the World, SAFE AGAIN!” Kellogg, an 80 year-old retired Army lieutenant general who has long been Trump’s top adviser on defense issues, served as national security adviser to Vice President Mike Pence , was chief of staff of the National Security Council and then stepped in as an acting security adviser for Trump after Michael Flynn resigned. As special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Kellogg will have to navigate an increasingly untenable war between the two nations. The Biden administration has begun urging Ukraine to quickly increase the size of its military by drafting more troops and revamping its mobilization laws to allow for the conscription of troops as young as 18. The White House has pushed more than $56 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since the start of Russia’s February 2022 invasion and expects to send billions more to Kyiv before Biden leaves office in less than months. Trump has criticized the billions that the Biden administration has poured into Ukraine. Washington has recently stepped up weapons shipments and has forgiven billions in loans provided to Kyiv. The incoming Republican president has said he could end the war in 24 hours, comments that appear to suggest he would press Ukraine to surrender territory that Russia now occupies. As a co-chairman of the American First Policy Institute’s Center for American Security, Kellogg wrote several of the chapters in the group’s policy book. The book, like the Heritage Foundation’s “Project 2025,” is a move to lay out a Trump national security agenda and avoid the mistakes of 2016 when he entered the White House largely unprepared. Kellogg in April wrote that “bringing the Russia-Ukraine war to a close will require strong, America First leadership to deliver a peace deal and immediately end the hostilities between the two warring parties.” Trump’s proposed national security advisor U.S. Rep. Michael Waltz (R-Fla.) tweeted Wednesday that “Keith has dedicated his life to defending our great country and is committed to bringing the war in Ukraine to a peaceful resolution.” Kellogg was a character in multiple Trump investigations dating to his first term. He was among the administration officials who listened in on the July 2019 call between Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy in which Trump prodded his Ukrainian counterpart to pursue investigations into the Bidens. The call, which Kellogg would later say did not raise any concerns on his end, was at the center of the first of two House impeachment cases against Trump, who was acquitted by the Senate both times. On Jan. 6, 2021, hours before pro-Trump rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol, Kellogg, who was then Pence’s national security adviser, listened in on a heated call in which Trump told his vice president to object or delay the certification in Congress of President Joe Biden ’s victory. He later told House investigators that he recalled Trump saying to Pence words to the effect of: “You’re not tough enough to make the call.” Baldor reported from Washington. Be patient with Tinubu’s govt, Minister begs NigeriansWASHINGTON (AP) — FBI Director Christopher Wray told bureau workers Wednesday that he plans to resign at the end of President Joe Biden's term in January, an announcement that came a week and a half after President-elect Donald Trump said he would nominate loyalist Kash Patel for the job. Wray said at a town hall meeting that he would be stepping down “after weeks of careful thought,” roughly three years short of the completion of a 10-year term during which he tried to keep the FBI out of politics even as the bureau found itself entangled in a string of explosive investigations, including two that led to separate indictments of Trump last year as well as inquiries into Biden and his son. “My goal is to keep the focus on our mission — the indispensable work you’re doing on behalf of the American people every day,” Wray told agency employees. “In my view, this is the best way to avoid dragging the bureau deeper into the fray, while reinforcing the values and principles that are so important to how we do our work.” The intended resignation was not unexpected considering that Trump had settled on Patel to be director and had repeatedly aired his ire at Wray, whom he appointed during his first term. But his departure is nonetheless a reflection of how Trump's norm-breaking style has reshaped Washington, with the president-elect yet again flouting tradition by moving to replace an FBI director well before his term was up and Wray resigning to avert a collision with the incoming administration. “It should go without saying, but I’ll say it anyway — this is not easy for me," Wray said. “I love this place, I love our mission, and I love our people — but my focus is, and always has been, on us and doing what’s right for the FBI.” Wray received a standing ovation following his remarks before a standing-room-only crowd at FBI headquarters and some in the audience cried, according to an FBI official who was not authorized to discuss the private gathering by name and spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press. Trump applauded the news on social media, calling it “a great day for America as it will end the Weaponization of what has become known as the United States Department of Injustice" and saying that Patel's confirmation will begin “the process of Making the FBI Great Again.” If confirmed by the Senate, Patel would herald a radical leadership transformation at the nation's premier federal law enforcement agency. He has advocated shutting down the FBI's Washington headquarters and called for ridding the federal government of “conspirators," raising alarms that he might seek to wield the FBI's significant investigative powers as an instrument of retribution against Trump's perceived enemies. Patel said in a statement Wednesday that he was looking forward to "a smooth transition. I will be ready to serve the American people on day one.” It's extremely rare for FBI directors to be ousted from their jobs before the completion of their 10-year terms, a length meant to insulate the agency from the political influence of changing administrations. But Trump has done it twice, placing Wray in the job in 2017 after firing Director James Comey amid an investigation into ties between Russia and the Republican president’s campaign. Despite having appointed Wray, Trump had telegraphed his anger with the FBI director on multiple occasions throughout the years, including as recently as the past week. In an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” that aired Sunday, Trump said, “I can’t say I’m thrilled with him. He invaded my home,” a reference to the FBI search of his Florida property , Mar-a-Lago, two years ago for classified documents from Trump’s first term as president. That search, and the recovery of boxes of sensitive government records, paved the way for one of two federal indictments against Trump. The case, and another one charging him with plotting to overturn the 2020 election, have both been dismissed by the Justice Department special counsel that brought them in light of Trump's November victory. Attorney General Merrick Garland praised Wray for having “served our country honorably and with integrity for decades.” He said: “Under Director Wray’s principled leadership, the FBI has worked to fulfill the Justice Department’s mission to keep our country safe, protect civil rights, and uphold the rule of law.” Natalie Bara, the president of the FBI Agents Association, said in a statement that Wray had led the FBI “through challenging times with a steady focus on doing the work that keeps our country safe. ” Throughout his seven years on the job, the self-professed "low-key, understated" Wray brought a workmanlike approach to the job, repeatedly preaching a “keep calm and tackle hard” mantra to bureau personnel despite a steady drumbeat of attacks from Trump and his supporters. He also sought to avoid public conflict when possible with the Trump White House, distancing himself and his leadership team from the FBI's Russia investigation over errors that took place before he took office and announcing dozens of corrective actions meant to prevent the recurrence of the surveillance abuses that plagued the inquiry. But there were other instances when he memorably broke from Trump — he did not agree, for instance, with Trump’s characterization of the Russia investigation as a “witch hunt." He made known his displeasure when the White House blessed the declassification of materials related to the surveillance of a former Trump campaign aide and contradicted a Trump talking point by stating that Ukraine had not interfered in the 2016 election. He repeatedly sought to keep the focus on the FBI's day-to-day work, using the bulk of his resignation announcement to praise the bureau's efforts in countering everything from violent crime and cyberattacks to Chinese espionage and terrorism. Yet as he leaves office at a time of heightened threats , much of the public focus has been on the politically sensitive investigations of his tenure. Besides the inquiries into Trump, the FBI in recent years also investigated Biden's handling of classified information as well as Biden's son Hunter for tax and gun violations. Hunter Biden was pardoned by his father last week. A particular flashpoint came in August 2022, when FBI agents searched Mar-a-Lago — an action officials defended as necessary given the boxes of documents that were being concealed at the Palm Beach property and the evidence of obstruction that the Justice Department said had been gathered. Trump railed against the FBI over that search and has kept up his criticism ever since. Trump was angered by Wray's comment at a congressional hearing that there was “some question about whether or not it’s a bullet or shrapnel” that struck Trump's ear during an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania in July. The FBI later stated unequivocally that it was indeed a bullet. Before being named FBI director, Wray worked at a prestigious law firm, King & Spalding, where he represented former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie during the “Bridgegate” scandal. He also led the Justice Department’s criminal division for a period during President George W. Major boost for new parents as huge retailer announces MASSIVE Christmas sale on baby goodsTerrell Owens’ remark about Deebo Samuel being more focused on his pre-game attires than the game brewed up rumors of a beef between them. The SF 49ers star even told Owens to “cut it fam” in response. However, after the brief online back-and-forth, the two cleared the air, as shown by the conversation Deebo shared during his latest media appearance. “Me and T.O. had a phone call after that,” Deebo shared on Cleats & Convos. “Talking to him, it was just, what do you call it? Cheeks and giggles.” The 49ers wide receiver revealed how Owens explained that his comment was just a joke, and the media had blown it “ out of proportion. ” He also admitted that he “understands” the former athlete’s perspective, acknowledging how rumors and speculations can often “flip” an athlete’s narrative. The receiver clarified that both of them were now “ cool ” and had a constructive conversation to clear up the misunderstanding surrounding the issue. Samuel and Owen’s conversation wasn’t just cool, though. It also involved the legend offering some football advice to the currently struggling receiver. Terrel Owens’ advice to Deebo Samuel The 28-year-old hasn’t been playing up to his standard this season, leaving him on the receiving end of criticism recently. On being asked if he discussed his “ frustrations ” with the former 49ers receiver, Deebo shared that he had indeed talked “ a little bit ” about his performance. He explained how Owens had mentioned that, while he only gets to “catch” the game here and there, he firmly believes the team can “flip” their season around. Owens also encouraged the WR, saying the team still has all the “tools” they need to make a comeback, and all isn’t lost yet. That said, Deebo still has enough time to ball out, prove himself, and silence the critics. San Francisco’s next chance to make it to the playoffs race comes on Monday against the Bills.
Over the weekend, Arabic and Turkish outlets reported that Asma al-Assad, wife of deposed Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, was seeking a divorce after the couple and their family fled to Moscow two weeks ago. However, other sources are now stating that such claims are without merit. Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Russian government, told reporters at a press conference on Monday that the stories about Asma seeking a divorce “do not correspond to reality,” while also refuting other claims that the Assads were being confined in the Russian capital and that their assets had been frozen (Bashar al-Assad has several properties in Moscow). The Daily Beast reports that Asma’s father, Dr. Fawaz Akhras, told the outlet via email that he is “able to confirm that the reports are false.” Rebel forces overthrew the Assad regime two weeks ago, marking a decisive shift in the ongoing Syrian civil war, which stemmed from large-scale protests against the regime that broke out in 2011. The popular uprising and Bashar al-Assad’s crackdown against it escalated, with armed opposition groups forming throughout the country, some wholly domestic and others backed by outside forces, including United States. By mid-2012, the conflict had escalated into a brutal civil war, with numerous atrocities committed on both sides in the following years. This would include mass executions and theocratic repression on the part of rebel forces, and al-Assad’s Russia-backed military deploying chemical weapons. While the conflict lay dormant after a ceasefire agreement was reached in 2020, a rebel coalition led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) went on an 11-day offensive, taking large cities like Aleppo and Homs, until finally reaching the capital of Damascus and toppling the government on December 8th. Rebel leader Ahmed al-Sharaa (who previously went by Abu Mohammed al-Jolani) is considered the new commander-in-chief of Syria’s interim government. Al-Assad and his family fled to Russia, where they were granted political asylum. Asma al-Assad, 49, was born to Syrian parents in the United Kingdom, where she lived until 2000 and worked as an investment banker. She moved to Syria at the age of 25 and married Bashar al-Assad, who had just succeeded his father, Hafez al-Assad, as leader of the country.

By ROB GILLIES, Associated Press TORONTO (AP) — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told Donald Trump that Americans would also suffer if the president-elect follows through on a plan to impose sweeping tariffs on Canadian products , a Canadian minister who attended their recent dinner said Monday. Trump threatened to impose tariffs on products from Canada and Mexico if they don’t stop what he called the flow of drugs and migrants across their borders with the United States. He said on social media last week that he would impose a 25% tax on all products entering the U.S. from Canada and Mexico as one of his first executive orders. Canadian Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc, whose responsibilities include border security, attended a dinner with Trump and Trudeau at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club on Friday. Trudeau requested the meeting in a bid to avoid the tariffs by convincing Trump that the northern border is nothing like the U.S. southern border with Mexico . “The prime minister of course spoke about the importance of protecting the Canadian economy and Canadian workers from tariffs, but we also discussed with our American friends the negative impact that those tariffs could have on their economy, on affordability in the United States as well,” LeBlanc said in Parliament. If Trump makes good on his threat to slap 25% tariffs on everything imported from Mexico and Canada, the price increases that could follow will collide with his campaign promise to give American families a break from inflation. Economists say companies would have little choice but to pass along the added costs, dramatically raising prices for food, clothing, automobiles, alcohol and other goods. The Produce Distributors Association, a Washington trade group, said last week that tariffs will raise prices for fresh fruit and vegetables and hurt U.S. farmers when the countries retaliate. Canada is already examining possible retaliatory tariffs on certain items from the U.S. should Trump follow through on the threat. After his dinner with Trump, Trudeau returned home without assurances the president-elect will back away from threatened tariffs on all products from the major American trading partner. Trump called the talks “productive” but signaled no retreat from a pledge that Canada says unfairly lumps it in with Mexico over the flow of drugs and migrants into the United States. “The idea that we came back empty handed is completely false,” LeBlanc said. “We had a very productive discussion with Mr. Trump and his future Cabinet secretaries. ... The commitment from Mr. Trump to continue to work with us was far from empty handed.” Joining Trump and Trudeau at dinner were Howard Lutnick, Trump’s nominee for commerce secretary, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, Trump’s pick to lead the Interior Department, and Mike Waltz, Trump’s choice to be his national security adviser. Canada’s ambassador to the U.S., Kirsten Hillman, told The Associated Press on Sunday that “the message that our border is so vastly different than the Mexican border was really understood.” Hillman, who sat at an adjacent table to Trudeau and Trump, said Canada is not the problem when it comes to drugs and migrants. On Monday, Mexico’s president rejected those comments. “Mexico must be respected, especially by its trading partners,” President Claudia Sheinbaum said. She said Canada had its own problems with fentanyl consumption and “could only wish they had the cultural riches Mexico has.” Flows of migrants and seizures of drugs at the two countries’ border are vastly different. U.S. customs agents seized 43 pounds of fentanyl at the Canadian border during the last fiscal year, compared with 21,100 pounds at the Mexican border. Most of the fentanyl reaching the U.S. — where it causes about 70,000 overdose deaths annually — is made by Mexican drug cartels using precursor chemicals smuggled from Asia. On immigration, the U.S. Border Patrol reported 1.53 million encounters with migrants at the southwest border with Mexico between October 2023 and September 2024. That compares to 23,721 encounters at the Canadian border during that time. Canada is the top export destination for 36 U.S. states. Nearly $3.6 billion Canadian (US$2.7 billion) worth of goods and services cross the border each day. About 60% of U.S. crude oil imports are from Canada, and 85% of U.S. electricity imports as well. Canada is also the largest foreign supplier of steel, aluminum and uranium to the U.S. and has 34 critical minerals and metals that the Pentagon is eager for and investing for national security.FG targets STEM, vocational education in new strategy

The organizational session is the time during which lawmakers — namely those who are newly elected — familiarize themselves with the procedures and rules necessary to carry out the lawmaking process. It does not count towards the biennial lawmaking session that begins January and lasts up to 80 days. Twenty-two new lawmakers are heading into the 69th legislative session, including two members who returned after not being reelected in recent elections: Sen. Richard Marcellais, D-Belcourt, and Rep. Daniel Johnston, R-Kathryn. Day one included the speaker of the House appointment, committee designations and the swearing-in ceremony. The more menial tasks on the agenda for lawmakers involved computer training, seating arrangement and taking fresh headshots. “Times change, things are different. We have to make sure that everybody’s up to speed,” said House Majority Leader Mike Lefor, R-Dickinson. “You’re going to have your agreements, you’re going to have your disagreements," he said. "But it’s all in the spirit of providing the best public policy that we possibly can.” Both House Republicans and Democrats unanimously agreed on nominating Rep. Robin Weisz to serve as speaker of the House. Weisz described the chamber as “the people’s house” while addressing the Legislature from the podium for the first time as speaker. District 41 newcomer Karen Grindberg, R-Fargo, was also unanimously elected by the district to replace Lt. Gov.-elect Michelle Strinden. “It’s just really exciting how welcoming everybody is and how they want to be helpful,” Grindberg said. Though the intimate details tied to lawmaking are new to the freshman legislator, coming to the Capitol has become second nature. “We used to run around the halls when we were little, that was our favorite thing to do after school," she said. Grindberg’s father was a lawmaker for 22 years and the Republican House Majority Leader. Meanwhile, her husband, Tony Grindberg, was a senator for more than 20 years. She is also the mother of North Dakota Treasurer Thomas Beadle and mother-in-law to Strinden. “I’m excited for the opportunity," Karen Grindberg said. "I want to get to work.” Tuesday’s training will be similar, paying particular attention to ethical topics like workplace harassment and social media conduct. Interim committee findings will also be briefly presented to lawmakers. The session will conclude Wednesday with the presentation and deliberations of Gov. Doug Burgum’s final budget address. Republicans maintain supermajorities in both chambers, outnumbering Democrats 83-11 in the House and 42-5 in the Senate. Neither party will see different leaders for the 2025 session. Lefor and Senate Majority Leader David Hogue, R-Minot, were reelected during Republican caucus meetings last month. Sen. Kathy Hogan, D-Fargo, and Rep. Zac Ista, D-Grand Forks, were reelected as Senate and House minority leaders during the respective state Democratic-NPL caucases.
