It’s not a streak worth preserving. Not when the Bears average 288.5 yards per game, the fewest in the NFL. They also average 182.7 passing yards per game, the third-fewest in the league. Not when the team is on a seven-game losing streak that has claimed Williams’ head coach, offensive coordinator and whatever sense of joy the Bears’ go-for-it season was supposed to provide. And not when Williams ranks 32 nd out of 41 qualifying quarterbacks in aggressiveness percentage, which NFL Next Gen Stats uses to measures how often a quarterback throws into tight coverage. Williams throws into tight coverage — defined as defenders being within one yard of receivers when the ball arrives — just 12.2 percent of the time. He doesn’t throw the ball downfield often, either. His 4.9 completed air yards, which measures the length of the throw on completions, is 31 st in the league. Williams going two months without throwing an interception isn’t a feature of the Bears offense, then. It’s a bug. This is the time for Williams to take risks and push the ball downfield. The Bears’ season is over — they figure to be eliminated from the playoffs this week — and the only thing remaining that matters is Williams’ development. If Williams gambles down the field and a safety jumps in front of a deep ball, so what? “I’m not one that, I tend to throw interceptions,” Williams said this week. “I know in the beginning of the season I threw a couple early on, a couple stupid ones. I think protecting the ball is the most important thing.” Williams has thrown five interceptions — none since Oct. 13 in London — and has fumbled the ball away three times, including Sunday in San Francisco when he tried to stop his throwing motion. The streak is commendable, but means little on a team that will spend the final four weeks thinking more about next season than this year. Williams will be better in 2025 if he spends the rest of this season figuring out what he can — and can’t — do. “I touch the ball the most on the football team, so being able to protect in those ways helps us win games ... I’m going to try and do that and keep doing that for the next four games,” he said. Chris Beatty, who is Williams’ third different offensive coordinator this season, said coaches never talk to Williams about avoiding interceptions. “It’s all about being calculated and, ‘Hey, we see a certain matchup that we like, let’s try to take advantage of it,’” he said. “There’s some things that we want to try to do a little bit more of. And then there’s some things that we might be missing because we’re seeing them for the first time in a game or full speed. So those are things we’re trying to get better at. .... “I don’t think it’s a lack of aggressiveness as much as, [Williams] has got to be calculated when he wants to do those things and then understand there are times to do it: ‘You know, we’re 1-on-1, we need to take some shots.’” Receiver DJ Moore said he didn’t want Williams trying to force things, though. “If he doesn’t have interceptions, we’re doing something right,” Moore said. “I don’t want him to start having interceptions. He’s doing what he’s doing at a high level.” Williams hasn’t been effective when he’s taken deep shots, though. Only four teams have fewer explosive passing plays — going for 20 yards or more — than the Bears. The team’s longest play this season has gone for 47 yards; only two other teams claim a shorter longest play. There are 41 quarterbacks who have tried at least 14 passes of at least 20 yards. Williams’ Pro Football Focus score ranks 40 th , ahead of only the Jaguars’ Mac Jones. Then there are the plays in which Williams doesn’t have enough time to look deep. He’s already the most-sacked quarterback in Bears history and is on pace to finish in the top three in NFL history. The same Vikings the Bears play Monday took advantage of Williams’ mistake on Nov. 24. Williams took a sack that lost 12 yards in overtime, leading to a punt and a 30-27 loss. That’s not the way Williams wants to play in pressure situations. “Taking a sack in OT — a stupid sack,” Williams said. “We’ve messed up in multiple situations, including me. Being able to learn from whatever it was — me taking a sack or mismanagement ... Being able to snap out of it right in that moment [and] make the right play at the right time is the next point.” Figuring out the deep ball is something Williams can improve the next four games, too, particularly against a gambling Vikings defense that will give the Bears a chance at big gains. “He’s not playing scared,” interim head coach Thomas Brown said. “He’s ripping some footballs into tight windows. I think it’s probably even more impressive. It’s not like he’s sitting back there not taking an opportunity. (He’s) taking chances down the field. “We always talk about trying to find ways to be aggressive, not reckless. There is a fine line between the two of them.”

RELATED CONTENT: ‘Inside the NBA’ will air on ESPN and ABC as part of settlement with NBA By JOE REEDY AP Sports Writer “Inside the NBA” will continue, even though games will no longer be airing on TNT at the end of this season. The popular studio show will appear on ESPN and ABC beginning next season as part of a settlement between Warner Bros. Discovery and the NBA that was announced on Monday. Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of TNT Sports, sued the NBA in New York state court in August after the league did not accept the company’s matching offer for one of the packages in its new 11-year media rights deal, which will begin with the 2025-26 season. Even though “Inside the NBA” will be on ESPN and ABC, TNT Sports will continue to produce the show. It will air from Atlanta, except when the show goes on the road. The quartet of Ernie Johnson Jr., Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Shaquille O’Neal will remain with the show. Barkley signed an extension with Warner Bros. Discovery in August despite the company losing the NBA. “‘Inside the NBA’ is universally recognized as one of the best and most culturally impactful shows in sports,” ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro said. “We have long-admired the immensely talented team and are thrilled to add their chemistry and knowledge to our robust set of NBA studio offerings to super-serve NBA fans like never before. The addition of ‘Inside the NBA’ further solidifies ESPN as the preeminent destination for sports fans.” “Inside the NBA” will handle pregame, halftime and postgame coverage of the NBA Finals on ABC, conference finals and the NBA Playoffs. During the regular season, it will be part of opening week coverage, as well as Christmas Day, all ABC games after Jan. 1, the final week of the season and other marquee events. “The opportunity to continue the iconic and Emmy Award-winning ‘Inside the NBA’ is a huge win for basketball fans everywhere,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement. “We look forward to building on our longstanding partnership with TNT Sports and working together to promote NBA content across key WBD and NBA platforms.” “Inside the NBA” started in 1989, Johnson became the host in 1990 while Smith joined fulltime in 1998. Barkley came aboard in 2000 followed by O’Neal in 2011. The show has garnered 21 Sports Emmy Awards. ESPN will also continue to produce “NBA Countdown” and “NBA Today.” The settlement gives TNT Sports, Bleacher Report and House of Highlights a global license for NBA content with no rights fee for the next 11 years. Warner Bros. Discovery will also continue its relationship with the league’s digital operations, including NBA.com, for five seasons. TNT Sports and the NBA have jointly managed NBA Digital since 2009. Even though TNT Sports will not be airing games in the United States beginning next season, it does have rights to air a full package of games in select countries, including Latin America (excluding Brazil and Mexico), Poland, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. TNT Sports will also begin showing 13 Big 12 football and 15 men’s basketball games next season as part of a sublicense with ESPN. TNT will air two College Football Playoff games beginning this season also under a sublicense with ESPN. Turner Sports has had an NBA package since 1984 and games have been on TNT since the network launched in 1988. That will end after this season. “Together these agreements ensure fans will continue to enjoy TNT’s ‘Inside the NBA’ and create tremendous value for our entire portfolio as we accelerate the growth of TNT Sports, Bleacher Report, House of Highlights and our global sports business,” Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said in a statement. “We are pleased to partner with the NBA and Disney/ESPN, and to have solidified long-term rights and revenue for WBD.” The Associated Press contributed to this articleHorror injury forces Houston Texans to turn to receiver who ‘quit on his team’Oklahoma State's 3-point accuracy sends Miami to defeatSanta Cruz Wharf Collapses Amid Storms, Two Rescued By Emergency Crews | VIDEO
Trump again calls to buy Greenland after eyeing Canada and the Panama CanalJust because it’s winter doesn’t mean you can leave the bear spray behind — a lesson cross-country skiers in West Yellowstone were reminded of recently. Rendezvous Ski Trails, a popular trail network just outside of West Yellowstone, took to social media to warn skiers after a grizzly bear and numerous tracks were spotted on the trails. “This isn’t a normal thing, but the behavior indicated by the bear was that he was passing through the area,” said Melissa Alder, the co-owner of the West Yellowstone Nordic skiing and bicycling shop Free Heel & Wheel. The trails, managed in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, the West Yellowstone Chamber of Commerce and the West Yellowstone Ski Education Foundation, remain a key destination for both locals and tourists. Alder estimates that 50 to 100 skiers hit the trails on weekdays and up to 200 on the weekends. “There were no more tracks seen yesterday or the day after that initial sighting,” Alder said. “So its behavior based on the tracks and the one sighting of the animal was that it was moving through the area, heading east, back into the park.” Despite the sighting, Alder doesn’t plan to start carrying bear spray while skiing. However, she emphasized the importance of staying bear-aware, particularly during times when bears are most active. “I would say making noise and just being bear aware, which is something that we do almost always in in this part of Montana. If you’re skiing alone and in the morning or at night, I would recommend carrying bear spray,” she said. While many assume bears hibernate from late fall until the first thaw, the reality is more nuanced. Wildlife biologist Randy Scarlett from the Custer Gallatin National Forest noted that while it’s unusual for bears to be active this late in December, the slow start to winter is likely behind the recent sighting. “Usually by about Dec. 1, they're either denning, or they've reduced their activity so much that they're localized to an area around a den site basically not moving around,” Scarlett said. According to Scarlett, access to food sources plays a major role in determining when a bear settles down for winter. “This year has been kind of similar to last year. We haven't had a lot of cold weather, not a lot of snow. There have been confirmed sightings of active bears both in the Park and on the Forest. It's just what happens if there's not a lot of snow cover; they're still finding food and they'll still be active,” he said. Scarlett said that growing up near the Oregon Coast, black bears in his area never denned for the winter. They always had access to a reliable food source and didn’t need to conserve energy for extended periods. Regarding whether individuals should carry bear spray on winter excursions, he said the best approach is to monitor the weather. “It all depends on the year. I would tell people if the weather has been very warm and there hasn't been a lot of snow like we had the last few winters, you need at least be thinking about the fact that bears may still be active, especially at lower elevations,” he said.

Aaron Rodgers is feeling healthy and will be the New York Jets’ starting quarterback as long as that remains the case. Whether he’s in the huddle beyond this season is still to be decided — by the Jets and Rodgers. “Football life is interesting because there’s no guarantees,” Rodgers said Wednesday. “Even with injuries, obviously, with contract situations, with age, with coaching changes, new scheme possibly, new system. There’s a lot of unknowns, so that stuff is out of my control. “I’m just going to enjoy these times here and let the future take care of itself.” Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said Rodgers returned from the team’s bye-week break appearing physically refreshed and ready to go. The quarterback was not on the Jets’ injury report Wednesday for the first time since Week 4. “Definitely, as long as he’s healthy, my plan is to play him,” Ulbrich said. “And I know talking to him, that’s the way he wants to do it, too.” Rodgers, who turns 41 on Monday, has dealt with various injuries to his left leg, including a sore knee, sprained ankle and balky hamstring. And that’s after coming off a torn Achilles tendon in the same leg that limited him to just four snaps last season. “He’s doing better today than he has for quite a while now,” Ulbrich said. “After my conversations with him the last five or six weeks, he has felt healthier today than he’s felt in that time span.” That echoes what Rodgers said during his weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday, when he said he “feels good.” Rodgers said he’s still contemplating whether he wants to play football next season, but would prefer it be with the Jets if he does return. He reiterated that Wednesday after practice and explained why his tone has changed a bit from a few weeks ago when he said “I think so, yeah,” when he was asked if he planned to play next year. “If you look at what transpired in those two weeks, Joe (Douglas) got axed,” Rodgers said, referring to the Jets’ former general manager who was fired last week. “Joe brought me in here. There’s uncertainty with, you know, everybody on the staff, so I’m not naive to what the situation is. And if a new GM comes in and they don’t retain Brick, I have to fit in those plans, so that’s kind of the first part. “Like I said, on ”The Pat McAfee Show,” this is my first option. I’d love to play here if I end up deciding to play. But there’s got to be a want for them to want to bring me back, and for me to want to play. But ‘I think so’ was the truth, and ‘I’m not 100% sure’ is also the truth today.” Rodgers, who is having a subpar season statistically, has been noticeably affected by his leg ailments — and that’s something that could be much improved starting Sunday against Seattle. “I’m super excited about getting him going, whether it’s the keepers, the boots, a little bit more quarterback movement,” Ulbrich said. “Taking advantage of the stuff that he’s done at a Hall of Fame level his entire career. So, excited to see a healthier version of Aaron out there.” There was some speculation that the Jets, who are 3-8 and close to falling mathematically out of the playoff hunt, could opt to sit Rodgers in favor of Tyrod Taylor with his playing future uncertain. “He is a very prideful person,” Ulbrich said. “He wants to finish this thing off right. He wants to celebrate this team that we have and have a good taste in our mouths as we leave this season.” Rodgers has been very complimentary of Ulbrich as a leader, saying he’s “definitely all-in” on the interim coach and would like to see him get the full-time job for next season. “Again, that’s out of my control,” Rodgers said. “I mean, I’m not going to say Brick or nothing. I need to see how I’m feeling. Obviously, I would love to play for Brick again. He’s a fantastic human being, but there’s a lot of things that can change in the next six weeks. “There could be some really good feelings coming out of this or there could be wholesale changes — and I might be a part of that.” Those changes could include two coaches Rodgers is closest with in offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and passing game coordinator Todd Downing. “Them not being here would not be a deal breaker for me,” Rodgers said, “although I obviously love them.” Owner Woody Johnson is using The 33rd Team, with former GMs Mike Tannenbaum and Rick Spielman leading the project, to identify and analyze candidates for the Jets’ coach and GM searches. Rodgers is unsure if Johnson will seek his input on those decisions. “I’m always available if my opinion is wanted, but I’m going to focus on playing right now,” Rodgers said. “If I get drawn in those conversations, fantastic. If I don’t, that’s fantastic, too.”
, Talk about life coming at us fast! I don't know about you, but only now have I begun to settle into the reality of our success on Election Day. But we remain in a time when significant events are happening every day. And multiple times a day! While each of these events are worthy of their own commentary, I wanted to brief you on news that you could not miss and which you very well may have. Within 24 hours of writing this column, former representative Matt Gaetz withdrew his name as President Trump's nominee for Attorney General. That came as a surprise to many, but reports are saying that after multiple meetings with senators, it became clear that there was too much opposition to his nomination. What now? There are a few paths forward, including possibly being named by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to fill Marco Rubio's senate seat. On the same day that Gaetz withdrew, President Trump continued the rapid action we've seen from the moment he became the president-elect. Within hours, he announced former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi as his new nominee for Attorney General. This was met with universal praise on social media by Trump's circle and supporters of the president. Bondi was a prosecutor in Florida for 20 years, and the state's AG for eight years, from 2011-2019. She also happened to be the first woman to hold that office. I've had the pleasure of speaking with and interviewing her a number of times and found her to be sharp, confident, and ready for anything. She's a brilliant attorney and will make an excellent attorney general. Closing out another unnecessary drama fed by the panic of the Democrats, Democrat senator Bob Casey finally conceded to Republican challenger Dave McCormick for the Pennsylvania Senate seat, ending an ongoing recount. Casey spent weeks contesting the results despite no path to victory. All this was happening while a Bucks County commissioner caused a stunning scandal by publicly announcing they would ignore a...
