INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indianapolis Colts defense started this season struggling. It couldn't stop the run, couldn't keep teams out of the end zone, couldn't get off the field. Now the script has flipped. Defensive coordinator Gus Bradley's group is playing stouter, holding teams — even the high-scoring Detroit Lions — largely in check long enough to give Indy a chance to win, and it's the Colts offense that has struggled. “They are playing their tails off. More than 170 skiers and snowboarders experienced the stuff of nightmares over the weekend when they were left stranded for several hours on a ski lift whose structure had cracked, the Colorado Sun reported. A gondola lift at Winter Park Resort—located about 70 miles west of Denver , Colorado —was halted on Saturday just after noon after technicians discovered the crack. Over the course of about five hours, ski patrollers climbed into each gondola and lowered the riders’ equipment to the ground. They then used swinging ropes with seats attached to them to lower the 174 riders. No injuries were reported during the evacuation, which wrapped up around 6 p.m. Videos posted to social media showed the surreal rescues, which apparently used a belay system similar to the kind used in rock climbing. Officials were still investigating on Sunday to try to determine what had caused the structure to crack. United Airlines travelers with lost luggage have a new tool to track their bags. If the lost bag has an Apple AirTag in it, that information can now be passed directly to United, the airline announced Thursday. The new feature, called Share Item Location, allows travelers with an AirTag or other Find My network accessory to share the location with the airline’s customer service team to help locate their luggage in the event it’s misplaced. United says more than 99% of its customers pick up their luggage without a hitch. The feature is now available with iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2 or macOS 15.2. “Apple’s new Share Item Location feature will help customers travel with even more confidence, knowing they have another way to access their bag’s precise location with AirTag or their Find My accessory of choice,” said David Kinzelman, United’s chief customer officer. It’s Christmas Eve! Tonight, in a 200-year-old Bangalore tradition, the English-speaking faithful (all faiths welcome) will gather for the Christmas Mass at the St Mark’s Cathedral, the first garrison church in the erstwhile Bangalore Cantonment. As the bells toll the midnight hour, bread will be broken in joyous celebration of the birth of Mary’s boy-child. And the presbyter will invite the congregation, as he did last year, to ‘offer to one another the sign of peace, the namaskar.’ It is also a year-end tradition to look back and take stock, so let us rewind to 1698, to a royal charter that obliged the East India Company (EIC) to provide chaplains and schoolmasters for the Europeans at its ‘factories’ (trading posts) in India, while keeping its nose out of the religious and educational business of the Indians themselves, so as not to antagonize them. By 1812, when St Mark’s became the first garrison church of the Bangalore Cantonment, things had changed considerably. With the fall of Tipu Sultan in 1799, the EIC controlled most of the south; less concerned about local sentiment, the 1813 Charter allowed the clergy to set up churches and schools wherever they wished. When the Bangalore Cantonment was first conceived in 1805 as a dedicated British military station, only factories had churches. By 1807, the EIC realized that garrison churches were equally important. In 1808, ground was broken for Bangalore’s first ‘proper’ church (the Fort chapel in the old Pettah, and the St Mary’s chapel in Shivajinagar, were more makeshift), on the highest point of the ridge that is today MG Road. Its location at the western end of the Cantonment was not accidental – the church was also meant to service the garrisons at the Pettah, further west. Named for one of Jesus’ 12 apostles, St Mark’s was consecrated by the Anglican bishop of Calcutta in 1816. In 1831, Governor General William Bentinck dismissed the Maharaja of Mysore’s government, and soon after, moved the administrative capital to Bangalore, burnishing St Mark’s sheen. It is no wonder that many of its presbyters, men of great influence in the community, went on to establish new churches – and schools – in the city. By law, a military station could only have one church, but by the late 1840s, the population of the Cantonment had grown so much that a second church was commissioned. It was the presbyter of St Mark’s, Rev WW Lutyens, who took responsibility for the look and feel of the second church, personally designing its interiors and embellishments. In 1851, the Holy Trinity Church opened its doors at the other end of the MG Road ridge. In 1853, Rev R Posnett, assistant presbyter of St Mark’s, built a room to serve as a school for Eurasian (Anglo-Indian) children, who were not welcome at schools for Europeans, on the Mootocherry Ridge (today the St John’s Hill). By 1857, through the hard work of the good Reverend, the majestic St John’s Church had been completed. Within its compound, the sprawling St John’s High School, all grown up from the little schoolroom, continues to serve the city today. Rev ST Pettigrew, who served as presbyter in two stints between 1864 and 1872, founded the Bishop Cotton’s schools in 1865 (to offer an Anglican alternative to the Catholic schools in the Cantonment), named after the renowned educationist and then Bishop of Calcutta, George Cotton. He was also involved in the extensive renovations of St Paul’s, Bangalore’s first Tamil Anglican church (consecrated 1840) in 1865, and the establishment, in 1870, of the All Saints’ Church on Hosur Road, so beautifully restored by INTACH a few months ago. star-studded new Christmas action movie , its biggest movie in the US this week, has plenty of fans — like legendary video game designer , who tweeted that it was “great fun. While it lacks some realism, it’s a ‘Christmas movie’ with a 90s action-thriller vibe that the whole family can enjoy.” And he’s right, I suppose. If, that is, you overlook the fact that the plot strains credulity, the married main characters have fewer sparks between them than wet kindling, and you ignore the reality that this movie is basically the brain-dead love child of and 2002’s . Other than all that, two thumbs up! In all seriousness, has its moments. I watched it over the weekend, excited mostly by the prospect of Jason Bateman playing a villain. And he certainly gets the vibe right, even though he talks way more than you’d expect from a genuinely scary bad guy. There’s also a tense fight scene in a car on the highway that I thought was pretty exciting and well-executed. The premise of the story is pretty simple: Bateman is a menacing, mysterious antagonist who strong-arms a dopey TSA agent (Taron Egerton) into letting a package loaded with the nerve agent Novichok get cleared and loaded onto a plane. For the first 30 minutes or so, though, not much of anything happens beyond Egerton and his on-screen wife Sofia Carson over-acting every chance they get. It felt like every five minutes I was rolling my eyes at the implausibility of one plot development after another, one of the most ludicrous being the Los Angeles cop who — on the basis of a scratchy recording reconstructed from a device that had been burned to a crisp — not only manages to put the villains’ entire plan together, but she races to LAX and everyone just sort of falls in line with whatever this random cop orders them to do. Meanwhile, don’t get me started on all the heroics that Egerton’s TSA agent is able to pull off just in the nick of time, like remembering how to defuse a complex nerve agent bomb after Bateman’s character verbally walked him through it one time. Or, towards the end of , when Egerton needs to sneak onto a plane and rides a baggage van out onto the tarmac and basically unscrews one thing at the bottom of the plane before hopping inside at the last possible second. ?
