A NEW law in one state has resulted in price hikes for those who use ride-share services like Uber and Lyft. The legislation went into effect earlier this month, and there's some controversy among riders. Minnesotans will now see about a 25% increase in prices when using Uber or Lyft , per Fox affiliate KMSP . It comes as a result of the law, which increased the minimum wage for drivers by the mile and minute. Starting on December 1, drivers saw payment rates of $1.28 per mile and 31 cents per minute. That's up from 65 cents from before, according to what Uber and Lyft driver Said Mohamed told the outlet. Read More on Uber and Lyft Some drivers hadn't seen the increase yet on the date, but it fell on a Sunday, so as of December 2, it should've hit. "Since it's Sunday, the payroll closes on Sundays, and the new payroll begins every Monday," Mohamed explained. Uber also confirmed to drivers they would get "partial earnings" from December 1 if the rates didn't kick in until December 2. Lyft also said it was tracking drivers to "ensure they are getting compensated appropriately under the new law." Most read in Money The proposed bill to increase wages for Uber and Lyft drivers had been delayed for months before state lawmakers ultimately got Governor Tim Walz to sign it into state law. While drivers will benefit greatly, an Uber spokesperson did confirm that the minimum wage increase would indeed cause about a 25% uptick in prices for riders. Some were bummed but said they'd "get over it." Residents like Michael Elsbernd didn't feel the same after seeing the price for his 10-mile trip home from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport go up considerably. "Usually it's about $25 to $30 to get from here home," Elsbernd told KMSP. "Today, I saw it as high as $55 for the lowest on Uber." Uber has introduced several new features ahead of the busy holiday season. They include: UberXXL - vehicles with larger trunk space that the company insists are perfect for trips to the airport UberX Share at airports - so you can pay a lower fare en route to your destination New Uber Reserve features - to let rideshare customers schedule airport rides in advance Updates to the Uber Shuttle at LaGuardia Airport - which allows people to grab a shared ride from Manhattan to the airport Home Screen Widget for iPhone - to request a ride right from your phone's home screen "I'm not sure if an Uber driver is worth $80 bucks an hour if you add all that up together," he added. "They're going to make very good money." HAPPY HOLIDAYS Uber also recently made a major change for the holidays . It introduced an UberXXL offering for those traveling with their families or who have lots of luggage. About 60 airports globally started offering it before Thanksgiving and will continue to through the holiday season. Uber said prices would go down by about 25% for those who would've had to order two vehicles instead of UberXXL. It also introduced UberX Share, Uber Reserve, a new home screen widget, and more.
