Stock market 12-13-24: Wall Street ends mixed after a bumpy weekCelebrity Life Don't miss out on the headlines from Celebrity Life. Followed categories will be added to My News. Jay-Z has been accused of raping a teenage girl back in 2000 in a civil lawsuit that came to light over the weekend – with the rapper since firing back a denial in a blistering statement. The lawsuit, first filed in October and obtained by NBC on Monday, did not initially name Jay Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter. But it was updated over the weekend to accuse Carter of sexually assaulted the 13-year-old girl alongside disgraced mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. According to the outlet, the anonymous accuser, identified only as “Jane Doe”, said the alleged assault happened after she was driven to an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty. Jay-Z has been accused of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000. Picture: Amy Sussman/Getty Images In the documents, Jane Doe claims that in 2000, when she was just 13, Combs and Carter allegedly raped her at a house party following the awards show in New York. She claims in the lawsuit that a friend dropped her off at Radio City Music Hall, where the awards was being held, but she did not have a ticket to the show. Jane Doe says she then approached several limousine drivers in an attempt to gain access to the ceremony and after-party. This is when she was allegedly told by one driver that worked for Combs that she “fit what Diddy was looking for”. The driver then allegedly invited her to a party following the VMAs and told her to return to his car later in the evening where she was allegedly transported to a white house with a U-shaped driveway. Picture: Evan Agostini/Getty Images After signing what appeared to be a nondisclosure agreement upon arrival, the teen entered the party that she claims was filled with celebrities and other people allegedly doing marijuana and cocaine. “Another celebrity stood by and watched as Combs and Carter took turns assaulting the minor,” the lawsuit said without naming the celebrity, according to ABC News . Carter has issued a statement posted on Roc Nation’s X account calling the allegations “heinous” and “blackmail attempt”. “My lawyer received a blackmail attempt, called a demand letter, from a ‘lawyer’ named Tony Buzbee,” Jay-Z wrote in the statement. “What he had calculated was the nature of these allegations and the public scrutiny would make we want to settle.” “No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion. So no, I will not give you ONE RED PENNY!!” Jay-Z continued, “These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!! Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree? These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case.” Jay-Z went on to address the fact that his family may be affected by the filing of the accuser, who is seeking unspecified damages. Jay-Z is livid his family will be dragged through the mud because of the lawsuit. Picture: Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images “My only heartbreak is for my family. My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims, and explain the cruelty and greed of people,” he wrote. “My heart and support goes out to true victims in the world, who have to watch how their life story is dressed in costume for profitability by this ambulance chaser in a cheap suit.” Jay-Z added that he is from Brooklyn and doesn’t play games – he simply worked hard to get to where he is today. Diddy, seen here with Jay-Z, Usher and Mariah Carey, has denied all allegations made against him. Picture: Frank Micelotta/Getty Images “You have made a terrible error in judgement thinking that all ‘celebrities’ are the same,” he continued. “I’m not from your moral world. I’m a young man who made it out of the project of Brooklyn. We don’t play these types of games. We have very strict codes and honour. We protect children, you seem to exploit people for personal gain. Only your network of conspiracy theorists, fake physics, will believe the idiotic claims you have levied against me that, if not for the seriousness surrounding harm to kids, would be laughable.” “I look forward to showing you just how different I am.” Combs was charged in September with racketeering, sex trafficking, and other offences, and is currently behind bars at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center. He has repeatedly denied all the accusations against him and is scheduled for trial on May 5. NEW YORK (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump wants to turn the lights out on daylight saving time. In a post on his social media site Friday, Trump said his party would try to end the practice when he returns to office. “The Republican Party will use its best efforts to eliminate Daylight Saving Time, which has a small but strong constituency, but shouldn’t! Daylight Saving Time is inconvenient, and very costly to our Nation,” he wrote. Setting clocks forward one hour in the spring and back an hour in the fall is intended to maximize daylight during summer months, but has long been subject to scrutiny. Daylight saving time was first adopted as a wartime measure in 1942. Lawmakers have occasionally proposed getting rid of the time change altogether. The most prominent recent attempt, a now-stalled bipartisan bill named the Sunshine Protection Act , had proposed making daylight saving time permanent. The measure was sponsored by Florida Sen. Marco Rubio , whom Trump has tapped to helm the State Department. “Changing the clock twice a year is outdated and unnecessary,” Republican Sen. Rick Scott of Florida said as the Senate voted in favor of the measure. Health experts have said that lawmakers have it backward and that standard time should be made permanent. Some health groups , including the American Medical Association and American Academy of Sleep Medicine, have said that it’s time to do away with time switches and that sticking with standard time aligns better with the sun — and human biology. Most countries do not observe daylight saving time. For those that do, the date that clocks are changed varies, creating a complicated tapestry of changing time differences. Arizona and Hawaii don't change their clocks at all.More than 18 months ago, Minnesota State women's soccer player Maille Mathis tore her ACL and underwent surgery. She rehabbed diligently while sitting out the 2023 season and returned to the squad this year. On Friday, she admitted she may not be 100% healed, but showed she's most of the way back by scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over St. Cloud State at The Pitch. The triumph came in the first round of the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament and advances the Mavericks to the quarterfinals of the regional. "I've had a few setbacks but it feels pretty good right now," Mathis said after the match. "I'm sure it will continue to get better." Mathis' goal was a bang-bang-bang play which started near midfield on the left side of the pitch. Addison Clarey brought the ball up along the sideline, delivered a perfectly-timed pass to Maddix Archer who in turn sent the ball over to Mathis. Without breaking stride, Mathis quickly shot the ball into the upper-left quadrant of the net for the game-winner at the 59:18 mark. "We're getting to know each other pretty well by now," Mathis said of her teammates. "We have a feel where each of us is going to at any given time." St. Cloud dominated action in the first 10 minutes of the game, outshooting the Mavericks 4-0 and rarely letting the ball outside the MSU zone. The Mavericks withstood the blitz until the 14:46 mark, when SCSU's Grace Olson converted a free kick that appeared to glance off a defender and into the net. The 1-0 lead stood until halftime. "We know there's usually going to be a 10-20 minute span when our opponents take their best shot and that's usually at the beginning of the game," MSU coach Brian Bahl said. "We held on until halftime when we were able to make a couple of adjustments and came out a lot more aggressive." After applying constant pressure to start the second frame, the Mavericks evened things up when Archer took a straight-on shot that goalie Meriel Orham was able to stop but not able to hang on to. When the ball popped out of her hands, a hard-charging Clarey was there to clean it up and slide the ball into the net to tie the game at 53:21. "When the ball came out I just pounced on it," Clarey said. Six minutes later, Mathis scored the game-winner and MSU held on for the win. St. Cloud had a handful of opportunities in the second frame, but Mavericks' goalie Clare Longueville and the rest of the defense thwarted all of them. MSU was outshot 12-9 for the game. The decision improves MSU to 15-1-6 and ends SCSU's season at 11-4-5. The Mavericks, the No. 2 seed, are in quarterfinal action at 1 p.m. Sunday at The Pitch with a game against No. 3 seed Northwest Missouri State. NWMSU advanced with a 2-1 win over Concordia-St. Paul Saturday morning.None

- Completed Initial Public Offering (IPO) of common stock, raising gross proceeds of $82.1M - Single Ascending Dose (SAD) portion of Phase 1 study of CMP-CPS-001 completed; safety data anticipated in Q1 2025 - Entered strategic research collaboration with BioMarin valued at over $370M CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Nov. 21, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CAMP4 Therapeutics Corporation (“CAMP4”) (Nasdaq: CAMP), a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing a pipeline of regRNA-targeting therapeutics designed to upregulate gene expression with the goal of restoring healthy protein levels across a range of genetic diseases, today reported financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2024, and provided a corporate update. “The third quarter of 2024 has been transformational for CAMP4, highlighted by our successful IPO and continued strong progress with our lead program, CMP-CPS-001, which received Orphan Drug Designation and Rare Pediatric Disease Designation from the FDA, underscoring its potential as a novel therapeutic candidate for the treatment of urea cycle disorders,” said Josh Mandel-Brehm, Chief Executive Officer of CAMP4. “We also partnered with BioMarin to identify novel therapeutics targeting regRNAs associated with genetic diseases, validating the potential of our RNA Actuating Platform and reinforcing our commitment to advance cutting-edge solutions for patients in need.” Mr. Mandel-Brehm continued, “We continue to advance our CMP-CPS-001 program through the Phase 1 trial, and we anticipate reporting SAD safety data in the first quarter of 2025 followed by multiple ascending dose (MAD) biomarker efficacy data in the second half of 2025, that may enable a registrational Phase 2/3 study. With the proceeds from our IPO, we are well positioned to support continued clinical and preclinical development of our ongoing programs.” Recent Corporate Highlights: Third Quarter 2024 Financial Results CAMP4 ended the third quarter with $2.5 million in cash and cash equivalents. On a pro forma basis, considering the $82.1M IPO proceeds, the company is well positioned to support continued growth and the development of its ongoing programs. Research and Development (R&D) expenses were $9.7 million for the third quarter of 2024 compared to $9.8 million for the third quarter of 2023. The decrease was mainly due to a modest reduction in workforce-related expense, offset in part by an increase in lab operation expense and preclinical and clinical consulting fees. General and administrative (G&A) expenses were $3.8 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2024, compared to $2.9 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2023. The increase in G&A expenses was primarily due to an increase in stock-based compensation expense and higher patent-related expenses vs. prior period. Net loss was $13.5 million for the third quarter 2024, compared to $11.7 million for the same period in 2023. About CAMP4 Therapeutics CAMP4 is developing disease-modifying treatments for a broad range of genetic diseases where amplifying healthy protein may offer therapeutic benefits. Our approach amplifies mRNA by harnessing a fundamental mechanism of how genes are controlled. To amplify mRNA, our therapeutic ASO drug candidates target regRNAs, which act locally on transcription factors and are the master regulators of gene expression. CAMP4’s proprietary RAP PlatformTM enables the mapping of regRNAs and generation of therapeutic candidates designed to target the regRNAs associated with genes underlying haploinsufficient and recessive partial loss-of-function disorders, of which there are more than 1,200, in which a modest increase in protein expression may have the potential to be clinically meaningful. Vandal smashes Ebenezer Scrooge's tombstone used in 'A Christmas Carol' movie LONDON (AP) — If life imitates art, a vandal in the English countryside may be haunted by The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. Police in the town of Shrewsbury are investigating how a tombstone at the fictional grave of Ebenezer Scrooge was destroyed. The movie prop used in the 1984 adaption of Charles Dickens' “A Christmas Carol” had become a tourist attraction. The film starred George C. Scott as the cold-hearted curmudgeon who is visited by three ghosts on Christmas Eve who show him what will become of his life if he doesn’t become a better person. West Mercia Police say the stone was vandalized in the past week. Megachurch founder T.D. Jakes' daughter Sarah Jakes Roberts and her husband Touré Roberts said in a statement on social media late Sunday that Jakes was improving. The 67-year-old Jakes founded the non-denominational The Potter's House in 1996 and his website says it now has more than 30,000 members with campuses in Fort Worth and Frisco, Texas; and in Denver. At the crossroads of news and opinion, 'Morning Joe' hosts grapple with aftermath of Trump meeting The reaction of those who defended “Morning Joe” hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski for meeting with President-elect Trump sounds almost quaint in the days of opinionated journalism. Doesn't it makes sense, they said, for hosts of a political news show to meet with such an important figure? But given how “Morning Joe” has attacked Trump, its viewers felt insulted. Many reacted quickly by staying away. It all reflects the broader trend of opinion crowding out traditional journalist in today's marketplace, and the expectations that creates among consumers. By mid-week, the show's audience was less than two-thirds what it has typically been this year. Pilot dies in plane crash in remote woods of New York, puppy found alive WINDHAM, N.Y. A desert oasis outside of Dubai draws a new caravan: A family of rodents from Argentina AL QUDRA LAKES, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A desert oasis hidden away in the dunes in the far reaches of skyscraper-studded Dubai has drawn a surprising new set of weary world travelers: a pack of Argentinian rodents. A number of Patagonian mara, a rabbit-like mammal with long legs, big ears and a body like a hoofed animal, now roam the grounds of Al Qudra Lakes, typically home to gazelle and other desert creatures of the United Arab Emirates. How they got there remains a mystery in the UAE, a country where exotic animals have ended up in the private homes and farms of the wealthy. But the pack appears to be thriving there and likely have survived several years already in a network of warrens among the dunes.

Carolina Panthers tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders was taken to a hospital for a neck injury after landing on his head while making a catch late in the first half of Sunday's 30-27 home loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. As Sanders was brought down near the sideline after a 10-yard reception, he was flipped upside down and landed directly on the top of his helmet as he went out of bounds on the tackle by cornerback Trent McDuffie. After receiving attention from the team's medical staff, Sanders was strapped to a backboard and taken off the field on a cart with 40 seconds remaining in the half. He was taken to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for observation and later released Sunday afternoon, according to the team. On the CBS broadcast following halftime, Panthers head coach Dave Canales said Sanders had movement in all his extremities, while extreme precaution was taken because of back tightness. CBS reported he was being examined for a concussion before later amending that to a neck injury. The 21-year-old rookie out of Texas had a team-leading three receptions for the Panthers at the half for 49 yards. In 11 games this season, Sanders has 29 receptions for 302 yards and a touchdown. Sanders was a fourth-round selection in the NFL draft in April. --Field Level Media
