Father Fidelis Mukonori, who was Robert Mugabe’s long-time confidante, has stressed the importance of mediation, negotiation, and dialogue as crucial skills for young people involved in politics. He made these remarks during the launch of the Youth Council for Peace and Development at a local hotel in Bulawayo on December 11, 2024. The event was hosted by the 4-H Zimbabwe Foundation and brought together youth representatives from 11 political parties, including ZANU-PF, MDC Alliance, CCC, DOP, NCA, Free Zim, UANC, NPC, ZIPP, UZA, and ZCPD. The launch marked a significant step in promoting peace-building and dialogue among Zimbabwe’s young political leaders. In his address, Father Mukonori emphasized that developing these skills is essential for fostering long-term peace and preventing conflict in Zimbabwe. He said, “Young people must develop the skills of mediation, negotiation, and dialogue, understanding their role in building sustainable peace. It is vital that you actively participate in local and national peace-building initiatives.” He highlighted that such skills are necessary for creating an environment of peace and ensuring the absence of conflict within the country. Father Mukonori urged young people to use their platforms to promote peaceful resolutions to challenges and contribute positively to Zimbabwe’s development. The launch was also attended by former National Peace and Reconciliation Commissioner, Dr. Tinashe Rukuni, Zimbabwe’s Attorney General, Mrs. Virginia Mabiza (represented by Executive Secretary Mr. Johane Gandiwa), and Father Mukonori, who is also a member of the Zimbabwe National Elders Forum Board. This initiative, which seeks to bring together youth from various political backgrounds, aims to promote dialogue, encourage peaceful resolutions to challenges, and contribute to Zimbabwe’s overall development. It marks a pivotal moment in the country’s ongoing efforts to unite its citizens across political divides for the greater good. The Youth Council for Peace and Development will provide young leaders with a platform to address key issues such as social justice, economic development, and national unity. By encouraging collaboration among youth leaders, the initiative aims to lay the foundation for a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable future for Zimbabwe. With this groundbreaking initiative, Zimbabwe is taking a significant step toward an inclusive and peaceful future, placing its youth at the forefront of the nation’s development and conflict resolution efforts. Source – the chronicleWilly Adames plans to play every day for San Francisco and bring the Giants championshipsFresh off its biggest win of the season, Penn State plays its first true road game Tuesday when it visits Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J. Aces will be wild for the Nittany Lions (8-1, 1-0 Big Ten) and the Scarlet Knights (5-4, 0-1) as Penn State's Ace Baldwin Jr. will square off against Ace Bailey of Rutgers. Baldwin is the Nittany Lions' leading scorer at 15.1 points per game and dishes out 8.1 assists -- fourth in the nation entering Monday's action. He registered 17 points and six assists Thursday in an 81-70 victory over then-No. 8 Purdue in a game where Penn State led by as many as 27. Freddie Dilione V chipped in 14 points for the Nittany Lions, who had not defeated a Top 10 team since 2019. "A win like that's a statement win," Dilione said. "I just think it's going to put everybody on notice. We're just a walkover team. We're always going be the underdogs, and that's our mentality. We've just got to come in every game and just punch everybody in the mouth." Penn State must be careful not to suffer a letdown against a talented Rutgers squad led by freshmen Dylan Harper (23.1 points per game) and Bailey (17.9). The duo combined for 30 points in the Scarlet Knights' last game -- an 80-66 setback at Ohio State. The defeat was the fourth in the last five games for Rutgers, which plays seven of its next eight in New Jersey. "We've got to get better," Scarlet Knights coach Steve Pikiell said. "We got to get some more consistency out of a lot of things, especially our defense. Can't give up 80 points on the road and expect to win in this league." In last season's meeting with Penn State, it was offense that was Rutgers' biggest issue. The Scarlet Knights shot just 1-of-17 from 3-point range and 34 percent overall in a 61-46 home defeat. "(It's about) finding ways of how to bounce back as a team and staying together," Harper said. "Even though we lose, we're still going to find a way." --Field Level Media
UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The deadliest place for women is at home and 140 women and girls on average were killed by an intimate partner or family member per day last year, two U.N. agencies reported Monday. Globally, an intimate partner or family member was responsible for the deaths of approximately 51,100 women and girls during 2023, an increase from an estimated 48,800 victims in 2022, UN Women and the U.N. Office of Drugs and Crime said. The report released on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women said the increase was largely the result of more data being available from countries and not more killings. But the two agencies stressed that “Women and girls everywhere continue to be affected by this extreme form of gender-based violence and no region is excluded.” And they said, “the home is the most dangerous place for women and girls.” UN Women’s Deputy Executive Director Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda told a news conference launching the report that women have been killed by their loved ones for a long time and the trend is continuing because underlying issues haven’t been addressed — especially gender stereotyping and social norms. “This is killing which is associated with power over women,” she said, and it continues because of the continuing impunity for violent attacks against women. Gumbonzvanda, a Zimbabwean and longtime advocate for women’s rights, said there is “a lot of perpetrator anonymity” when it comes to the killing of women by partners or family members because “it means the family members have to bring justice against another family member.” UN Women is campaigning for those with economic and political power and for leaders in various traditions not to use their power to perpetuate violence. “Power should be used to facilitate options for prevention,” she said. According to the report, the highest number of intimate partner and family killings was in Africa – with an estimated 21,700 victims in 2023. Africa also had the highest number of victims relative to the size of its population — 2.9 victims per 100,000 people, it said. There were also high rates last year in the Americas with 1.6 female victims per 100,000 and in Oceania with 1.5 per 100,000, it said. Rates were significantly lower in Asia at 0.8 victims per 100,000 and Europe at 0.6 per 100,000. According to the report, the intentional killing of women in the private sphere in Europe and the Americas is largely by intimate partners. By contrast, the vast majority of male homicides take place outside homes and families, it said. “Even though men and boys account for , women and girls continue to be disproportionately affected by lethal violence in the private sphere,” the report said. “An estimated 80% of all homicide victims in 2023 were men while 20% were women, but lethal violence within the family takes a much higher toll on women than men, with almost 60% of all women who were intentionally killed in 2023 being victims of intimate partner/family member homicide,” it said. The report said that despite and girls by countries, their killings “remain at alarmingly high levels.” “They are often the culmination of repeated episodes of gender-based violence, which means they are preventable through timely and effective interventions,” the two agencies said. Braze Reports Fiscal Third Quarter 2025 ResultsMIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said he was caught off guard by reports early Tuesday that linebacker Shaq Barrett wants to unretire. The two-time Super Bowl winner signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins in March, then abruptly announced his retirement on social media in July, just days before the start of Miami's training camp. “Just to be candid, obviously there's a reason why you target and sign somebody," McDaniel said Tuesday afternoon. “I was fully caught off guard, or caught by surprise this morning as I found out.” McDaniel indicated the Dolphins have not had any conversations with Barrett recently. Miami holds the 32-year-old’s contractual rights. ESPN first reported the news. “It was kind of news as you guys got it,” McDaniel said. He also said he hasn't had a chance to think about Barrett potentially rejoining the team, and that his immediate focus is on Miami's Thursday night game at Green Bay. “The team is counting on me to think about the Packers,” he said. "I'll get with (GM) Chris (Grier), and we'll work through that. There's a ton of implications that go along with it in terms of team and roster stuff, so we'll work through that as we just got the news today.” Barrett has 400 tackles, 59 sacks, 22 forced fumbles and three interceptions in nine seasons — four with Denver and five with Tampa Bay. He was a second-team All-Pro with the Buccaneers in 2019, with a league-high 19 1/2 sacks. The Dolphins waived veteran safety Marcus Maye on Tuesday and activated rookie safety Patrick McMorris from injured reserve. Maye, who signed with the Dolphins in June, played in 11 games with three starts for Miami this season. He had 30 tackles and a tackle for loss. He could re-sign to the team's practice squad if he clears waivers. Maye previously played for New Orleans, but was cut in a money-saving move in March after two seasons with the Saints. Maye's release made room on the roster for McMorris, who was drafted in the sixth round by Miami in April. He began the season on injured reserve because of a calf injury. WINNIPEG – Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew offered condolences Monday to the families affected by two fatal police shootings in the province and spoke to the challenge faced by officers on the front lines. “I want to take the opportunity to thank police officers across this province who go to work and keep us safe each and every day,” Kinew said while at the convention for the Association of Manitoba Municipalities. The night before, a street standoff involving police left one man dead and an officer recovering from a stab wound to the throat. Kinew told reporters no one wants to see a person die after an altercation with police but officers are often tasked with responding to high-risk situations. “Police officers have a difficult job to do, that’s at the best of times, so I support law enforcement,” he said. “When we’re thinking about the holidays and people going to the malls and people going to the shopping areas around the province, people have got to be safe.” Police were called early Sunday evening to the Unicity shopping area in the city’s far west about an officer who had been stabbed in the throat and a suspect who had been shot. Acting police Chief Art Stannard later told reporters that officers had been in the area as part of a retail theft initiative, which sees police work in hot spots in the city that have seen a rise in retail theft and violent crime. Police said the man who was shot was given CPR at the scene before he was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. They said the injured officer was also transported to hospital and treated for his injury. Police declined to provide more details about what happened, including the age or identity of the man killed, noting the case is being reviewed by the police watchdog agency — the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba. The agency confirmed it’s investigating the death of the man but did not provide any other details. Videos circulating on social media appear to show a man being shot outside a bus shelter. In a 24-second clip, two police officers tell a person “to put it down” and “to drop it.” The man appears to advance toward the officers and at least one officer begins shooting. It’s not clear in the video whether the man who was shot was holding a weapon. Stannard told reporters Sunday he’s aware of the video and asked the public to avoid rushing to judgment. Coun. Markus Chambers, chair of the Winnipeg Police Board, said Sunday’s incident is tragic for all involved and noted it could renew calls for the board to implement body cameras. “Body-worn cameras likely wouldn’t have resulted in this not happening, but it is a mechanism of looking at the accountability around what happened,” Chambers said. The councillor said the board would be monitoring the rollout of body cameras in RCMP detachments across the province to see if they’re effective. It was the second fatal police shooting in three days. A 17-year-old boy from Norway House Cree Nation was shot and killed by an RCMP officer on Friday. Mounties said they received a report that a man was agitated and armed with an edged weapon in a home on the First Nation, north of Winnipeg. RCMP said the teen was outside with the weapon when officers arrived and, despite numerous orders to drop it, he moved toward them and was shot. Pizza Market to grow by USD 66 Billion (2024-2028), driven by rising pizza consumption in developing nation, report highlights AI's impact on trends - TechnavioNFL coaches and players are constantly on camera, even when they're not on the field. Frequent press conferences with the media provide NFL fans with a steady stream of quotes about their favorite teams and players. These quotes can actually be used to make informed decisions about our fantasy teams. These useful quotes can pertain to injury outlooks, player usage, overall offensive tendencies and philosophy, and more. The key is to know which quotes are actionable, and which ones are just fluff that can be ignored. The vast majority of these quotes will be sourced from the interviews that beat reporters conduct with players and coaches throughout the week. The Coachspeak Index (CSI) does a phenomenal job of listening to these interviews and picking out the key nuggets. In this article, we'll be taking a look at quotes (from CSI and other sources) and analyzing their fantasy impact. Some may be more serious than others, but it's all about getting a feel for coaches and players from information that may not show up in the box score. WEEK 15 FANTASY FOOTBALL RANKINGS QBs | RBs | WRs | TEs | D/ST | Kickers Fantasy Football Coachspeak Highlights: What are coaches saying about Jonathon Brooks, Puka Nacua, and more? Dave Canales provides an injury update on Jonathon Brooks Dave Canales said his heart goes out to Jonathon Brooks. pic.twitter.com/uG2lj15hbs In his third game since returning from an ACL tear, Jonathon Brooks tried to make a cut and went down with a non-contact injury. He did not return to the game and Carolina head coach Dave Canales since confirmed that their worst fears were true: Brooks tore his right ACL, the same ACL he tore last year at the University of Texas. Key Fantasy Takeaway: This is absolutely devastating for Brooks and could easily rob him of what was supposed to be an incredibly promising NFL career. Moving forward, Chuba Hubbard will function as a bell cow back for the rest of the season and will likely hold onto the same role next year. Hubbard will be a volume-based RB2 for the foreseeable future. MORE FANTASY: WEEK 15 WAIVER WIRE & FAAB RECOMMENDATIONS Puka Nacua draws high praise from Sean McVay Sean McVay said Puka Nacua was "such an igniter" on Sunday. "Igniter is one of the biggest compliments I can give somebody," McVay said. "You elevate everybody around you, you bring an energy to this football team. And he certainly did that today." https://t.co/nrGoi8rJbN Puka Nacua had one of the best games of his career, finishing with 178 total yards and two touchdowns in the Rams' victory over the Bills. Unsurprisingly, Sean McVay was quite pleased with his performance, calling Nacua an "Igniter" and saying, "Igniter is one of the biggest compliments I can give somebody." Key Fantasy Takeaway: McVay clearly loves this kid, and when you're in the good graces of Sean McVay, you can be made into a fantasy superstar. Nacua is just that, averaging 23.7 points per game in his five full games while ranking among the league leaders in both yards and targets per route run. With Matthew Stafford and McVay by his side, Nacua will be one of the most valuable receivers in all of fantasy as long as he's healthy. Raheem Morris is sticking with Kirk Cousins #Falcons HC Raheem Morris continues to support QB Kirk Cousins: “Everything is always discussed when you go watch the tape, but Kirk Cousins is our quarterback. Kirk played significantly better than he did the week before. We’ll do whatever is best to win football games, and... pic.twitter.com/r7cxFSErbO Over the last month, Kirk Cousins has thrown zero passing touchdowns and eight interceptions. He looks bad in the box score, but he looks even worse on film. Despite his immense struggles, head coach Raheem Morris is standing behind Cousins, saying he is a part of the Falcons' plans to win games. Key Fantasy Takeaway: Cousins has only delivered a couple of meaningful performances for fantasy managers this season. However, he's directly responsible for sustaining several highly-drafted players in Bijan Robinson and Drake London. Robinson has held up just fine in recent weeks, but at this point, it's time to start wondering if Michael Penix can lift London's weekly fantasy outlook. Garrett Wilson comments on Aaron Rodgers' accomplishment Garrett Wilson on Aaron Rodgers getting over 300 yards: “I’m glad he got over that hurdle. Cool.” Aaron Rodgers threw for 339 yards on Sunday, his first time eclipsing 300 yards in a single game since Dec. 12, 2021. When asked about this accomplishment, Garrett Wilson said, "I’m glad he got over that hurdle. Cool.” Wilson's reaction to this question perfectly encapsulates the Jets' lost season. Nobody in the building cares about their offensive production when they have 10 losses and are eliminated from the playoffs. Key Fantasy Takeaway: With the Jets already eliminated from playoff contention, there's legitimate reason to be concerned that they will shut down star players who get nicked up during these final few games. We've already seen them exercise caution with Breece Hall, who's nursing a knee injury. Fantasy managers who are planning to rely on the Jets' offense during the fantasy playoffs should monitor this situation closely. Mike Tomlin expresses caution with George Pickens' hamstring injury Mike Tomlin on George Pickens (hamstring): "GP was listed as questionable. We didn't feel like he was going to be able to play the type of number of snaps we thought would be worth putting him in a uniform for... We didn't want a small problem to become a big problem." George Pickens popped up on the injury report late last week with a hamstring issue. There was some optimism that he'd be able to play, but he was ultimately held out in the Steelers' victory over the Browns. Mike Tomlin made it clear that they were being especially cautious with Pickens, saying, "We didn't want a small problem to become a big problem." Key Fantasy Takeaway: As we head into the fantasy playoffs, there are likely a good number of teams that plan to deploy Pickens in their WR2 or Flex slot. Unfortunately, hamstring injuries can be quite fickle, and there's no guarantee that he'll be available for Week 15. Keep an eye on practice reports this week.
