The City of Winnipeg and the province of Manitoba will introduce a plan to clear out encampments and move people into housing in 2025, Mayor Scott Gillingham and Premier Wab Kinew tell Global News. “We’ll be going out and providing a 30-day period to work with people in camps,” Kinew said. “The bottom line is that a tent is not a permanent solution anymore.” Kinew said service providers will move “camp by camp” and move people into housing with “wraparound” addictions and mental health supports within 30 days. Once all the people in the area are housed, they will not be able to return, though Kinew didn’t elaborate on how that would be enforced. “We make it clear no one is coming back to this area in terms of tents. We’re not going to allow tents to be set up in this area once we have people in housing and with supports people need to be successful,” he said. The plan will see all service providers working together, Kinew and Gillingham said. “The province, the city, there’s a role for the federal government, Indigenous governments, non-profit sector, private sector, all moving in the same direction in a co-ordinated effort to address homelessness ,” Gillingham said. Gillingham said the city has set up a “non-profit housing concierge” for service providers. “That person makes one call to one person and that person helps them navigate all things related to getting their housing built,” Gillingham said. Kinew says the province has acquired housing to support the plan. “When there’s legal challenges or roadblocks put up to moving people out of tents, it relies on the argument that there’s not sufficient housing units for those folks. We believe we’ve addressed that,” he said. Siloam Mission CEO Tessa Blaikie Whitecloud says the organization was consulted on the project, and plans to build 700 to 1,000 housing units within the next 10 years. She says while there are about 3,500 people experiencing homelessness in Winnipeg, there are only roughly 100 housing units in the city that rent at the level someone on employment and income assistance can afford. “This plan ... is focused on supporting folks out of encampments. The fact that it’s about bringing housing online to do that is the crucial piece,” she said. St. Boniface Street Links founder Marion Willis says it’s a “significant step forward.” “I feel a bit validated because that’s exactly what our team has been doing now for the past four or five years,” she said. “I congratulate the province on maybe having the courage to try something different.” Social Planning Council of Winnipeg executive director Kate Kehler hopes the plan also includes measures to help people on the brink of homelessness stay housed. “We have so many people who are still barely hanging on to their homes already,” she said. She also is looking forward to more details on how the plan will be funded. “When I say details, I’m actually talking about resources, as in money, in order to help everybody co-ordinate. Co-ordination does not come free. In fact, it’s not inexpensive even. But the teams already out there, they’re already doing the work. They already know how to work together. But there has to be substantial, substantial resources put towards allowing them to co-ordinate properly,” she said. Downtown Community Safety Partnership executive director Greg Burnett was part of a delegation that travelled to Houston, Texas, to observe its homelessness model. “I think the fact that we’re all talking at all levels of government again and all the organizations who are working on this is success,” he said. Kinew said he has “often tried to urge everyone that we work with to move more quickly.” “But the reality is we had to put the pieces into place together first,” he said. “In a rich country like Canada, the idea that we accept tents as a permanent solution, I think it’s time we leave that in the past.”

Stock market today: Rising tech stocks pull Wall Street to another recordAmerican Airlines has resumed flights after suspending its services for around an hour on Tuesday due to a technical issue that impacted the systems needed to release its planes. The disruption came during one of the busiest travel days of the year as passengers made journeys on Christmas Eve. In a statement, the airline said a "vendor technology issue" had caused the problem and it was "all hands on deck" to minimise further disruption. Departure boards at major US airports are still showing delays of up to two hours for some flights as the airline recovers from the nationwide issue, but real-time tracking website Flightradar24 shows planes taking off again at a number of major US travel hubs and most flights are departing on time. Passengers reported on social media being stuck on the tarmac or at gates, while others were told to disembark from their planes. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1531230668029-0'); });None

6 Reasons Why Joe Biden Pardoned Hunter BidenChetus Jetus. A name that rings true in my heart and soul, and one that I was completely unware would change the course of history for me. After creating my character in Final Fantasy XIV and logging on for the first time, I had to think of a name. Something creative, memorable, and most importantly; funny. Little did I know that little Chetus Jetus would help me understand a completely unfamiliar realm of the online world, and would become a piece of my psyche. A Tiny Little Guy With the Heart and Soul of a Gremlin Before finally embarking into the world of Final Fanasty XIV , I was told by countless coworkers how good it was. I was hit with the copypasta more times than I would like to admit, but never gave it the proper time of day. I never understood the hype behind MMOs. A game where you run around and collect soil for quests? It didn’t sound appealing to me in the slightest. That’s why I was surprised after creating my little Dunesfolk Lalafel in FFXIV that I was almost immediately hooked. Videos by VICE Before this, my main muse for online gaming was Maplestory . Yes, the game that we all played when we were around 14 years old because the chibi art style was extremely appealing. At least to me, anyway. Growing up in rural WIsconsin, we didn’t have a great internet connection, and I never had a proper gaming rig until I finally built one for myself during the COVID pandemic. Even then, I still couldn’t bring myself to download an MMO. I always had a particular image in my brain of people that played them. An image that also recently rocked my world after watching The Remarkable Life of Ibelin on Netflix, as well. But once I finally did download it, I learned that I was quite wrong. Final Fantasy XIV offers a community to a number of different folks. And I think it was after logging in on Christmas Day to see people celebrating with one another and having the time of their lives with strangers that they’ve likely never met that I realized how important a game like this is. And how important Chetus Jetus is to me. Chetus Jetus Is Apparently My Second Life at This Point When I first started playing, I wasn’t sure what was going to happen with Chetus Jetus. I didn’t know if I was going to be drawn in back in 2023 when I first strapped on my boots and headed into the lands of Ul’ Dah for the first time. While his hairstyle may have changed multiple times since his inception, originally rocking the massive pompadour for good measure and the ultimate hilarity level, I’ve settled on this hair for quite some time. Joining up with a Free Company also showed me nice of a community these games have. It’s a group of people looking out for each other. Ready to help with a raid or a dungeon at the drop of a hat. Willing to give up some of their hard earned spoils from battle for those that may need a specific item. And ready to just hang out during a boring night. To me, at least, it feels like the opposite of most social media websites at the moment. Rather than losing their mind at the smallest thing, people are... kind to one another? If someone is watching a cutscene, rather than rushing them through or cussing them out, most players will just wait for it to be done so new players can experience the story as it’s meant to be? It’s a weird vibe, but honestly? I love it. ‘Final Fantasy XIV’ is Also a Great Way To Spend Time With Friends I finally got convinced to give Final Fantasy XIV a try by someone that lives halfway across the world from me. One of my best friends loves the game and has spent hours carefully creating the character of his dreams. And so, that was the final nail in the coffin for me before finally trying this one out. And after conquiring dungeons, raids and everything in between, I finally understand it. It’s more than a game; it’s a second life in a digital world. I think the reality of the situation finally hit when I caught myself browsing through Etsy to try and find someone who could Resin Print me a small Chetus Jetus for my desk. I had never thought of doing that with any other character before, but after spending nearly if not over 300 hours with him, I guess he’s part of the family now. And it’s a great feeling, because I’ve finally come to understand why people love this game and what it has to offer. So, as I page through the digital scrapbook of images that I’ve collected of Chetus Jetus and his growth, I’ve come to a realization. Final Fantasy XIV is much more than a game to a lot of people, and I finally get it.

The class action lawsuit against Edwards Lifesciences claims that the defendants, during the Class Period, made false or misleading statements and/or failed to disclose that: (i) they created a misleading impression that they had reliable information regarding the company’s projected revenue outlook and expected growth, while downplaying risks from seasonality and macroeconomic factors; (ii) TAVR’s growth was at risk of slowing; (iii) Edwards Lifesciences’ optimistic projections for TAVR’s growth in the second quarter of 2024 and throughout the fiscal year fell short of expectations, as the company’s “patient activation activities” did not reach the anticipated low-treatment-rate population essential for TAVR’s growth; and (iv) the company overestimated hospital interest in continuing to use Edwards Lifesciences’ TAVR procedures over newer, innovative heart therapies. The lawsuit further alleges that on July 24, 2024, Edwards Lifesciences revealed second-quarter 2024 TAVR results below expectations and lowered its fiscal year 2024 projections for TAVR. METAIRIE, La. (AP) — If Saints interim coach Darren Rizzi has any definite ideas about who'll play quarterback for New Orleans against Washington on Sunday, he's not ready to share that information. Rizzi maintained on Wednesday that there's still a chance that Derek Carr could clear the concussion protocol and function well enough with his injured, non-throwing left hand to return against the Commanders. Meanwhile, reserve QBs Jake Haener and Spencer Rattler split first-team snaps during Wednesday's practice, which Carr missed, Rizzi said. “We're not going to name a starter right now,” said Rizzi, who also made a point of noting that Carr would not be placed on the club's injured reserve list and would not need surgery. “We're going to see how that progression plays out, first with Derek and then obviously with Jake and Spencer.” Carr, whose latest injury occurred when he tried to dive for a first down during Sunday's 14-11 victory over the New York Giants , has already missed three starts this season because of a separate, oblique injury. New Orleans lost all three of those games, with Rattler, a rookie, starting and Haener, a second-year pro, serving as the backup. In his three starts, Rattler completed 59 of 99 passes (59.6%) for 571 yards, one TD and two interceptions. Haener has gotten sporadic work this season in relief of both Carr and Rattler, completing 14 of 29 passes (48.3%) for 177 yards and one TD without an interception. Rizzi said he finds the 6-foot-1 Haener and 6-foot Rattler “very similar in a lot of ways," adding that whichever of those two might play “doesn't change a whole bunch" in terms of game-planning. “They're both similar-size guys. Their athletic ability is very similar,” Rizzi said. “They're similar-style quarterbacks. We're not dealing with opposites on the spectrum.” The Saints also signed another QB this week — Ben DiNucci — to help take scout team snaps at practice, now that Rattler and Haener are not as available to do that while competing to possibly start if Carr is indeed unable to play. The Saints (5-8) have won three of four games since Rizzi took over following the firing of coach Dennis Allen. That allowed New Orleans to remain alive in the NFC South Division, currently led by Tampa Bay (7-6). Rizzi said Carr has not had any setbacks this week in terms of progressing through the NFL's concussion protocol. “By the end of the week, if's he's not able to get any reps in any form or fashion, then obviously we'll go with one of the other guys,” Rizzi said. NOTES: RB Alvin Kamara did not practice on Wednesday because of an illness. ... WR Chris Olave, who is out indefinitely because of concussions this season, has returned to meetings at Saints headquarters. He as not, however, made plans to return to practice yet because he still plans to meet first with neurological specialists to try to assess the risks of returning to action during what's left of this season. Rizzi said the possibility of Olave playing again this season remains “on the table” for now. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFLAlleging that electronic voting machines (EVMs) were hacked selectively in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Sunday said his party leaders were surprised over the information that they got about “EVM hacking”. Dr. Parameshwara, who was also the AICC observer for Maharashtra elections, told presspersons that his party leaders, including former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, discussed the EVM issues and were planning to appeal to the Election Commission of India (ECI) in this regard. “We are now sure that till the EVMs are used, there is no hope for the Congress or any other party other than the BJP. There is an urgent need to return to ballot papers,” he said. “On analysing the poor performance of the Congress and the Maha Vikas Aghadi in Maharashtra on Saturday, we found surprising information about EVMs being hacked selectively. They are not doing this in every constituency but in large States that are politically and financially important for them,” he said. “Although we have appealed to the Election Commission about this in the past too, they did not consider our request on the need to return to ballot papers. When the Supreme Court and the ECI do not accept our allegations, where do we go?” he said, pointing out that many foreign countries, including the U.S., have done away with EVMs. Published - November 24, 2024 09:11 pm IST Copy link Email Facebook Twitter Telegram LinkedIn WhatsApp Reddit Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024 / Indian National Congress
