OSLO, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Interest rate increases in 2022 and 2023 have bolstered Danish bank profits while loan losses remain limited, according to the latest financial stability analysis released on Tuesday by Danmarks Nationalbank, Denmark's central bank. The report highlights strengthened bank earnings as a critical factor in enhancing financial resilience and meeting future operational and capital requirements. "The interest rate increases have improved banks' profits, and customers are still able to service their debt, although it has become more difficult for some households and businesses," said Peter E. Storgaard, head of Financial Stability at Danmarks Nationalbank. However, he cautioned that risks remain. "It is during good times that banks grant loans that later turn out to be bad, so it is important that banks do not underestimate the risk of losses on their loans." The report also underscores increasing risks from geopolitical tensions and cyber threats, particularly targeting critical financial infrastructure. These factors, coupled with global trade shifts, could significantly impact financial stability in Denmark. "The risk outlook for the financial sector does not only depend on conditions in Denmark," Storgaard noted. "Evolving geopolitical tensions along with new technology have significant implications for the cyber risk. We can also see from international surveys that more European banks are experiencing cyberattacks that lead to actual serious operational incidents." Every six months, Danmarks Nationalbank publishes the Financial stability analysis, which assesses and makes recommendations regarding financial stability in Denmark.Syria's Assad is in Moscow after deal on military bases

The record will show that tight end Trey McBride had a great season, Marvin Harrison Jr. has a promising future, the Cardinals' defense played over its head for much of the year and Arizona was almost a good football team in 2024. Key word — almost. A frustrating stretch continued on Saturday when the Cardinals (7-9) lost 13-9 to the host Los Angeles Rams. Arizona was pushing for a go-ahead touchdown in the final minute, but Kyler Murray's pass took an unlucky bounce off McBride's helmet and LA's Ahkello Witherspoon made a spectacular grab for the interception, snagging the ball just before it hit the turf. “I think we can compete with anybody, but again, that doesn’t count,” second-year coach Jonathan Gannon said. “It’s about winning and losing, you what I mean? I just got to do a better job, but I know they’re doing the right things.” The Cardinals did a lot of things right against the Rams. Despite being eliminated from the postseason, Arizona competed hard. Murray completed 33 of 48 passes for 321 yards and a touchdown — but also had two interceptions. McBride caught 12 passes for 123 yards, including his first TD catch of the year. Harrison had one of his best games with six catches for 96 yards. “I’m going to choose to be positive about it,” Murray said. “I see a light at the end of that tunnel. I think we’re a couple plays away, a couple of plays away from being a 10-win team or right where we want to be, going to the playoffs or winning the division.” Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray loses his helmet on a play in the end zone during the first half of an NFL football game against the Los Angeles Rams, Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024, in Inglewood, Calif. Credit: AP/Alex Gallardo The Cardinals' defense played well for most of the game, limiting the Rams to 257 yards. But in the end, it was another loss. The Cardinals have dropped five of six after starting 6-4. “I know we’re close, man, and I know it’s hard to see that,” Gannon said. “For me, that’s hard to take on the chin but we’ll get better from it. We’ll get better.” What’s working The Murray-to-Harrison connection was much better on Saturday, producing several big plays. Gannon challenged Harrison to be more physical against opposing defensive backs last week, and the receiver responded, looking much more like the player the Cardinals expected when they selected him with the No. 4 overall pick. Credit: AP/Alex Gallardo “I think the physicality of it, coming from college to the league, guys don’t realize how physical you can be when you get to the league,” Murray said. “He's going to be big time.” What needs help After doing a great job of taking care of the ball over the first 11 games, Murray has thrown seven interceptions over the past five. A few of those came in late-game situations when he had to take a chance and force a pass, but it's still not a good trend. Stock up McBride had his third 100-yard game of the season, showing sure hands and fighting through contact for extra yards. The third-year player has 1,081 yards receiving this season, becoming just the second tight end in franchise history to exceed 1,000 yards. The other was Hall of Famer Jackie Smith, who had 1,205 yards in 1967. He has 104 catches and is just the 10th tight end in NFL history to top 100 in a season. Stock down Arizona's special teams have been very good for most of the year, but Los Angeles' block of an extra point attempt by Chad Ryland in the third quarter proved costly. If the Cardinals had trailed by three points on the final drive instead of four, they would have had the option of kicking a tying field goal in the final minute. Injuries RB James Conner tried to battle through a knee injury against the Rams, but gained just 4 yards on the ground. His status for the season's final game is uncertain. LB Joey Blount (ribs) and CB Elijah Jones (ankle) were inactive. Key number 822 — Harrison's receiving yards on the season. That ranks third for a rookie in franchise history behind Anquan Boldin (1,377 in 2003) and Frank Sanders (883 in 1995). Next steps Arizona's final game will be at home on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, who are also eliminated from the playoff race.Toronto man faces drug trafficking charges in Northwest TerritoriesAfter a sharp sell-off on Wall Street last week, market participants will witness sparse economic data in the holiday-shortened week ahead. NoneSEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks took a bumpy path to sole possession of first place in the NFC West. Sunday's 26-21 win over the Jets featured several special teams miscues, including a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by New York. On the flip side, the Seahawks got their second pick-6 in as many weeks and just enough production by Geno Smith and the offense. The Seahawks' uneven performance was characteristic of a season in which they started 3-0, then lost five of six before winning another three in a row to take command of their underachieving division. Seattle (7-5) leads Arizona by one game, with a matchup against the Cardinals looming next weekend. Zach Charbonnet gave Seattle its first lead of the day on an 8-yard touchdown run with 5:37 to go, and the Seahawks' defense capped another strong outing with a game-sealing stop on fourth down. After a sack by Leonard Williams gave the Jets a fourth-and-15 at the 34-yard line, Aaron Rodgers threw a desperation pass to Garrett Wilson that fell incomplete, giving Seattle the ball with 33 seconds left. Williams is on a tear. After losing out on NFC defensive player of the week honors last week to teammate Coby Bryant despite 2 1/2 sacks and four quarterback hits, “Big Cat” had an even better game. Williams finished with two sacks, three tackles for loss, a 92-yard interception return for a touchdown that was the longest pick-6 in NFL history by a defensive lineman, and a blocked extra point. The touchdown was the first of Williams’ career. He became the first player since 1982 with multiple sacks, an interception return for a touchdown and a blocked kick in a game. Maybe this week the league will agree he was the NFC's best defender. The special teams could not have been much worse in the first half. The Seahawks fumbled three kickoffs, losing two, and allowed Kene Nwangwu's 99-yard kickoff return for a TD. Dee Williams fumbled on a kickoff in the first quarter to give New York the ball at the 27-yard line, and four plays later, Rodgers hit Isaiah Davis for a touchdown to give the Jets a 14-0 lead. Laviska Shenault Jr. muffed two kicks and fumbled at the Seattle 38-yard line in the second quarter. Seattle also had an extra point blocked. Smith led his third game-winning drive of the season and his 11th since he became Seattle’s starting quarterback in 2022. Facing the team that drafted him in 2013, Smith went 20 of 31 for 206 yards and a touchdown. For the first time in five weeks, he was not intercepted. The Seahawks trailed by 14 points on two occasions, but Smith brought Seattle back while avoiding the untimely picks that dogged him recently. He threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Barner in the second quarter, and led the Seahawks on a go-ahead nine-play, 71-yard touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter. Coach Mike Macdonald and his staff have to address the problem with their kick returners, Shenault and Dee Williams. Two lost fumbles and several muffs could have easily cost Seattle the game. WR DK Metcalf left the game briefly with a knee issue but returned. ... P Michael Dickson was unavailable in the fourth quarter because of back spasms. 38 — The Seahawks decided to go for it on fourth-and-6 at their own 33-yard line with 9:34 left in the game. A primary reason was that Dickson was unavailable to punt because of back spasms. The Jets were flagged for having 12 men on the field after sending a punt returner out, which gave Seattle fourth-and-1 at the 38. The Seahawks got a first down after Jets cornerback Quantez Stiggers was flagged for pass interference on Metcalf, and eight players later, Charbonnet scored to put Seattle ahead. Without going for it on fourth down from their own 38, the Seahawks likely would’ve lost. The Seahawks will seek a season sweep of the Cardinals. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl
NoneRuben Amorim will face no pressure from Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe when it comes to his handling of Marcus Rashford, the Guardian reports. Rashford has been excluded from United’s last three match-day squads by Amorim. This demotion was solely down to Amorim, and with Ratcliffe green-lighting Rashford’s potential sale in the January transfer window, there are no complaints from above about the head coach’s team selections. The Guardian adds : “The Portuguese again left the forward out of the game-day 20 for the 3-0 defeat by Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday. This followed Rashford not being in the squad for the 4-3 Carabao Cup defeat at Tottenham on Thursday and the 2-1 victory at Manchester City the previous Sunday. “Amorim said after dropping the 27-year-old and Alejandro Garnacho for the City game: 'It is important the performance in training, the performance in games, the way you dress, the way you eat, the way you engage with your team-mates, the way you push your team-mates.' Since then he described Rashford’s absence as being for 'selection' reasons. “Rashford said in an interview with the journalist Henry Winter two days after the City game that he was ' ready for a new challenge '. This was interpreted as the player wanting a move. “Despite Amorim’s cited reasons for leaving out the England international and informing him he will be reinstated if his training performance improves, it is unclear whether Rashford would be recalled.” Manchester City have their eye on Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio as a replacement for Ederson, the Daily Mail reports. City are turning to the January transfer window to save their season, and considering their options in a number of positions. Ederson has missed four of their last five Premier League games, with Stefan Ortega starting, and Pep Guardiola could look for a fresh face to provide some competition. The Mail adds : “Much of the discussion surrounding City's recent struggles has focused on the goalkeeping department with both Ederson and Stefan Ortega being trusted in recent defeats. “One of those losses came in a 2-0 Champions League defeat against Juventus on December 11 and the best goalkeeper on that night was the Italian team's shot-stopper. “Di Gregorio was voted the best goalkeeper in Serie A at the end of last season after starring for Monza before choosing to join Juventus where he signed a contract until 2029.” Crystal Palace have triggered the extension clause in Jean-Philippe Mateta’s contract, the Athletic reports. The striker’s deal is now set to expire in June 2027. Talks had initially broke down, but his importance to Oliver Glasner’s side has helped him earn a new contract. Mateta has scored seven goals across all competitions so far this season. The Athletic adds : “The 27-year-old initially joined on loan before a permanent move from Bundesliga side Mainz and has thrived over the past year after some indifferent form beforehand. “The striker has since become a key part of manager Glasner’s side. He ended last season with a scintillating spell of form which produced 13 goals from 15 games, including at least one in seven consecutive home Premier League games. He scored Palace’s second-ever Premier League hat-trick in a 5-0 thrashing of Aston Villa on the final day of last season. “Mateta harbours ambitions to feature regularly for the French national team, having enjoyed recognition for his performances with a call-up to the men’s Olympic squad, where he scored five goals in four games. That included a brace in the semi-final victory over Egypt and a goal in the final where France were defeated after extra time by Spain.” - - - TNT Sports will show over 500 matches from the UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Conference League across the 2024/25 season.
