Fresh off its biggest win of the season, Penn State plays its first true road game Tuesday when it visits Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J. Aces will be wild for the Nittany Lions (8-1, 1-0 Big Ten) and the Scarlet Knights (5-4, 0-1) as Penn State's Ace Baldwin Jr. will square off against Ace Bailey of Rutgers. Baldwin is the Nittany Lions' leading scorer at 15.1 points per game and dishes out 8.1 assists -- fourth in the nation entering Monday's action. He registered 17 points and six assists Thursday in an 81-70 victory over then-No. 8 Purdue in a game where Penn State led by as many as 27. Freddie Dilione V chipped in 14 points for the Nittany Lions, who had not defeated a Top 10 team since 2019. "A win like that's a statement win," Dilione said. "I just think it's going to put everybody on notice. We're just a walkover team. We're always going be the underdogs, and that's our mentality. We've just got to come in every game and just punch everybody in the mouth." Penn State must be careful not to suffer a letdown against a talented Rutgers squad led by freshmen Dylan Harper (23.1 points per game) and Bailey (17.9). The duo combined for 30 points in the Scarlet Knights' last game -- an 80-66 setback at Ohio State. The defeat was the fourth in the last five games for Rutgers, which plays seven of its next eight in New Jersey. "We've got to get better," Scarlet Knights coach Steve Pikiell said. "We got to get some more consistency out of a lot of things, especially our defense. Can't give up 80 points on the road and expect to win in this league." In last season's meeting with Penn State, it was offense that was Rutgers' biggest issue. The Scarlet Knights shot just 1-of-17 from 3-point range and 34 percent overall in a 61-46 home defeat. "(It's about) finding ways of how to bounce back as a team and staying together," Harper said. "Even though we lose, we're still going to find a way." --Field Level MediaNRL Don't miss out on the headlines from NRL. Followed categories will be added to My News. The Broncos are in the box seat to sign Ben Hunt with the Queensland Origin star set to rule out a move to expansion rivals the Dolphins as D-Day approaches. This masthead can reveal the battle for Hunt’s signature has taken a dramatic twist, with a rumoured move to the Roosters in danger of collapsing, while Bulldogs football boss Phil Gould is poised to make a last-ditch pitch. That has sensationally opened the door for an ambush from the Broncos, who have been proactively courting Hunt in their push to engineer a Red Hill reunion. Hunt’s initial preference was to remain in Sydney for family reasons in the wake of his departure from the Dragons - leaving the Roosters and Bulldogs as serious options. But well-placed sources say Hunt is now leaning towards the Broncos after a tour of Brisbane’s opulent $27 million training headquarters, where he held preliminary talks with coach Michael Maguire and CEO Dave Donaghy. Ben Hunt last played for the Kangaroos in the Pacific Cup. Picture: Max Mason-Hubers Hunt also met with Brisbane’s River City rivals the Dolphins during his Sunshine State sortie, but it’s understood the 34-year-old has little interest in a move to Redcliffe. Hunt left Brisbane at the end of 2017, just as the club’s new training headquarters was being finalised, and he returned home last weekend to be blown away by the unrivalled infrastructure of the Broncos. The Australian utility still owns property in Brisbane and during last year’s Origin series, Hunt spoke of his desire to come home to Queensland. The Roosters were rated the frontrunner to win Hunt’s signature, but it’s understood the Bondi glamour club has salary-cap constraints and may not be able to win a bidding war. Hunt has run his eye over the individual rosters of his suitors - Brisbane, the Roosters, Dolphins and Bulldogs - and believes the Broncos are a ready-made force to help him achieve his final frontier: winning a premiership. It’s believed no club has tabled a formal deal for Hunt at this stage, but he hopes to garner all offers over the weekend with a view to making a definitive call early next week. Ben Hunt played 187 games for the Brisbane Broncos. Picture: Getty Images Canterbury supremo Gould shapes as the X-factor in Brisbane’s attempted raid. The Bulldogs have largely kept their powder dry, watching the Hunt machinations with interest, but after missing out on Storm superstar Ryan Papenhuyzen, Gould may up the ante in a bid to bring some playmaking experience to Belmore. Canterbury have set a budget of around $550,000 if they made an official move for Hunt and that figure may not be enough to secure the 334-game veteran. Hunt’s Dragons deal was worth $950,000 and the Dolphins are the only club with the salary-cap space to be able to offer a similar deal, but Redcliffe are currently a distant last in the race. One advantage for the Broncos is Hunt’s history with the club - he made his debut for Brisbane in 2009 and has unfinished business after the heartbreak of his 2015 grand-final loss to the Cowboys. Now, almost a decade later, Hunt is desperate to win a maiden premiership ring in his twilight years and Maguire said last week the Maroons maestro can help break Brisbane’s 19-year title drought in 2025. IRVING, Texas (AP) — A rape allegation against rapper Jay-Z, whose company Roc Nation has produced some of the NFL's entertainment presentations including the Super Bowl halftime show, won’t impact the league's relationship with the music mogul. “We’re aware of the civil allegations and Jay-Z’s really strong response to that," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Wednesday after the conclusion of the league's winter meetings. "We know the litigation is happening now. From our standpoint, our relationship is not changing with them, including our preparations for the next Super Bowl.” A woman who previously sued Sean “Diddy” Combs, alleging she was raped at an awards show after-party in 2000 when she was 13 years old, amended the lawsuit Sunday to include a new allegation that Jay-Z was also at the party and participated in the sexual assault. Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, said the rape allegation made against him is part of an extortion attempt . The 24-time Grammy Award winner called the allegations “idiotic” and “heinous in nature” in a statement released by Roc Nation, one of his companies. The NFL teamed up with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation in 2019 for events and social activism. The league and the entertainment company extended their partnership a few months ago. Kendrick Lamar will perform the Super Bowl halftime show at The Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Feb. 9. Roc Nation and Emmy-winning producer Jesse Collins will serve as co-executive producers of the halftime show. Beyonce, who is married to Jay-Z, will perform at halftime of the Baltimore Ravens-Houston Texans game on Christmas. “I think they’re getting incredibly comfortable with not just with the Super Bowl but other events they’ve advised us on and helped us with,” Goodell said. “They’ve been a big help in the social justice area to us on many occasions. They’ve been great partners.” AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nflMaybe 15 minutes before the Wild hosted and defeated the Nashville Predators on Saturday, general manager Bill Guerin took a few minutes to talk to the media about his first noteworthy acquisition of the season—the trade with Columbus, which will bring David Jiricek to the State of Hockey in the first few days of December. ADVERTISEMENT Maybe it’s just the pessimistic nature of a fanbase that hasn’t seen a men’s professional team play for a championship in more than three decades, but the grumbling had begun even before the collected media had reached the press box for Saturday’s game. “Seems like a lot to pay for a minor-leaguer,” was one of the comments overheard at the rink on Saturday. Indeed, to get Jiricek – the sixth overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft – and a lower-round pick, Guerin surrendered defenseman Daemon Hunt and four draft picks, including Minnesota’s 2025 first-rounder and a second round pick in 2027. He wasted no time in getting an up-close look at the new guy, calling Jiricek up to the NHL level on Sunday, and sending former Gophers forward Travis Boyd back down to Iowa. Guerin and Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell are old friends from their time working together with the Pittsburgh Penguins. But there was no discount offered from Waddell to his old pal in Minnesota. “It took awhile. Donny,” Guerin said with an exasperated grin. “He played with me. He’s one of my old mentors. He made me work for it. He’s the best.” ADVERTISEMENT Still, Guerin would not have pulled the trigger had he not believed in two things: 1) The Wild can turn all of Jiricek’s size (6-foot-4) and potential into another piece of their bright future on the blue line. 2) The price they paid was not as steep as it might look on the surface. To that second point, consider that Hunt was not really part of the Wild’s NHL-level defensive picture, even at a time like this when Jonas Brodin’s long-term viability is a serious question mark. And after getting two points with an overtime win over the Predators on Saturday, the Wild were tied for the most points in the NHL, meaning that at this pace, that 2025 first-round draft pick is going to come in the 25th spot or later. If the Wild go into a tailspin this season, the pick sent to Columbus is lottery protected, meaning the Blue Jackets will not get to pick in the top 10 at the Wild’s expense. ADVERTISEMENT To the first point, Jiricek is a player Guerin and his assistants have had their eye on for some time, even before he was named the top defenseman in the tournament while playing for Czechia in the 2023 World Juniors. “He’s not 30, he’s not a rental. He’s a 21-year-old defenseman that we can invest in. And we did. That’s how I look at it. It’s an investment,” Guerin said. In 2022, the Wild grabbed Liam Ohgren with the 19th overall pick, more than a dozen selections after Jiricek was picked by Columbus and was posing for pictures in a new red-white-and-blue sweater. ADVERTISEMENT “He was somebody that we really liked (during) his draft year. We knew we weren’t going to get him, but we liked him,” Guerin said. “And, you know, when this became available, I did my due diligence and asked our staff what they thought. They were all on board with it. So it’s good.” Perhaps in hopes of getting the fans on board, Guerin also stressed patience. Jiricek has not yet been a star in the NHL, despite his high draft stock. But the Wild are confident that their system of developing players — especially defensemen — is the change the new guy needs. “He’s a young player. He’s got a lot to learn. He’s going to continue to improve, just like all young players,” Guerin said, name-dropping two youthful every-night members of the Wild roster who still have ample room to grow. “Brock Faber’s got to get better. Matt Boldy’s still going to get better. All these guys are going to continue to improve because they’re so young. So just because they’re in the NHL doesn’t mean they’re not going to develop their game and get better. That’s our job as the coaches, management. That’s our job to help him get better.” If he has to spend some future draft capital to put those pieces in place, that is clearly a chance Guerin is willing to take. The Associated Press created this story using technology provided by Data Skrive and data from Sportradar .By Jack Phillips Contributing Writer A 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Northern California on Thursday, according to U.S. officials, triggering a brief tsunami warning. The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the tremor hit about 60 miles west-southwest of Ferndale, a city located about 100 miles south of the California-Oregon border. A tsunami warning was issued in the immediate aftermath of the quake, but was lifted about 50 minutes later. It’s not clear if any damage or injuries were reported in connection to the earthquake. The National Weather Service’s San Francisco office had issued a warning on social media about possible tsunami impacts: “We are still waiting for magnitudes of water rise.” The earthquake struck at a depth of around 6 miles at approximately 10:44 a.m. local time. It was first preliminarily registered as having a magnitude of 6.6, but the USGS upgraded it to 7.0 a short while later. Several aftershocks of smaller magnitudes struck in the area off the coast after the initial 7.0-magnitude temblor, according to the USGS. About three minutes after the 7.0 earthquake struck, a 2.5-magnitude earthquake also hit inland around 200 miles to the southeast in Cobb, located in Central California, the USGS reported. The Cobb tremor was revised down from 5.8 by the USGS. Residents in Northern California and California’s Central Valley reported feeling the tremor, according to the agency’s website. Users on social media platform X also reported shaking and other impacts. Some users also posted screenshots of National Weather Service tsunami warning messages they had received through their phones before it was rescinded. “A series of powerful waves and strong currents may impact coasts near you. You are in danger. Get away from coastal waters,” the notice said. “Move to high ground or inland now. Keep away from the coast until local officials say it is safe to return.” Deanne Criswell, director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, has been briefed on the quake and is “monitoring the situation” in California, an official confirmed. “Please listen to local officials and heed their warnings,” FEMA spokesperson Jaclyn Rothenberg wrote on X. The Bay Area Rapid Transit, which runs metro trains across the San Francisco and Oakland areas, said that it is experiencing service disruptions because of the Ferndale earthquake and tsunami warning. “There is a major delay system-wide in all directions. There is currently no Transbay Tube service to or from San Francisco due to a report of an earthquake. Please seek alternate means of transportation,” the transit operator said.Indiana senator condemns 'chaos' of Biden foreign policy

The cost of vaccination against shingles is high at $720 to $950. Due to this prohibitive cost, the Ministry of Health has announced that it will not be subsidising the vaccine ( No subsidy for shingles vaccine due to high cost: MOH , Dec 9). Yet, precisely because it is costly and medically effective, it would seem logical to offer subsidies to encourage its uptake, especially among seniors. Notably, the risk of complications is greater among seniors and one can get shingles multiple times. Given that Singapore has already positioned itself as a vaccine manufacturing hub employing the latest technologies, it could look to prioritise a more cost-effective shingles vaccine while offering interim subsidies to seniors to take up vaccination.
