What's next for Matt Gaetz: 5 possibilitiesmcw casino bangladesh 2024

The Arizona Cardinals were rested, relatively healthy and had been playing some of their best football in years. That's why Sunday's sobering 16-6 road loss to the Seattle Seahawks was so surprising. “Frustrating day offensively, especially the way we’ve been playing to come out here and lay an egg and get physically dominated in a sense,” quarterback Kyler Murray said. The Cardinals (6-5) had their four-game winning streak snapped. Murray completed 24 of 37 passes for 285 yards, but made a brutal mistake, throwing an interception that was returned 69 yards by Seattle's Coby Bryant. The running game never got going, gaining just 49 yards. James Conner, the team's leading rusher, had just 8 yards on seven attempts. “There were a lot of things where it felt like the flow of things just wasn’t in our favor,” receiver Michael Wilson said. "Some games go like that. And then we didn’t execute enough to make up for the game sort of not going our way.” Arizona's still in decent playoff position, tied with the Seahawks on top of the NFC West with six games to play. But after all the good news and winning over the past month, Sunday's loss was humbling. “We’re going to learn a lot from this game,” Gannon said. Arizona's defense continued its remarkable midseason turnaround, giving the team every opportunity to win Sunday. The front seven doesn't have any stars, but continues to cobble together a respectable pass rush. The Cardinals finished with five sacks, all by different players. Second-year cornerback Garrett Williams intercepted a pass by Geno Smith on the first play of the fourth quarter, briefly giving the Cardinals some momentum as they tried to fight back. Williams — a third-round pick out of Syracuse in 2023 — is growing into a steady starting corner that the Cardinals have missed for years. “I thought that they hung in there and battled, forced a bunch of punts, kept points off the board,” Gannon said. “I thought the interception by Garrett was fantastic, kept us in the game there, kept points off the board. We made some mistakes. We made some mistakes, starting with me.” The Cardinals aren't going to win many games with a rushing performance like Sunday's. Conner, held to a season low in yards rushing, did have 41 yards receiving. Rookie Trey Benson had four carries for 18 yards, while Emari Demercado broke a 14-yard gain. Getting Conner going is key. Arizona has a 5-1 record this season when he has at least 100 total yards from scrimmage. Gannon said falling into an early hole affected some of the things the Cardinals could do, particularly in the second half. “I thought there was plays there, but again, where you get down in that game, you’re not really playing normal ball there for a good chunk of the game,” Gannon said. “So we’ve got to do a better job earlier in the game to make sure we’re not playing left-handed.” Fourth-year edge rusher Zaven Collins isn't necessarily the star fans hoped for when he was selected with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2021 draft, but he has quietly had a productive season leading the team's no-name front seven. Collins picked up his fourth sack of the season Sunday and put consistent pressure on Smith. Murray's still having a great season, but the quarterback's MVP credentials took a hit with Sunday's mediocre performance. He played pretty well at times, but the interception that turned into a pick-6 was a backbreaker. The sixth-year quarterback had largely avoided those types of plays this season, which is a big reason they're in the playoff hunt. “Can't give them seven points, especially when our defense is playing the way that they’re playing,” Murray said. “I feel like if I don’t do that, we’re in the game four quarters because that’s the way it was trending.” The Cardinals came out of Sunday's game fairly healthy. Gannon said starting safety Jalen Thompson (ankle) should be back at practice Wednesday. He missed the last two games. 12 and 133 — Tight end Trey McBride continued his breakout season with a career-high 12 catches for 133 yards. NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) — Alyssa Ustby and Lexi Donarski scored 14 points apiece, and Ustby added 14 rebounds to lead No. 16 North Carolina to a 53-36 victory over Villanova in a semifinal game at the Women's Battle 4 Atlantis on Sunday. The Tar Heels (5-1) play Indiana in the championship game on Monday. The Hoosiers upset No. 18 Baylor 73-65 in Sunday's first semifinal. Ustby made 6 of 8 shots from the floor with a 3-pointer for North Carolina on the way to her first double-double of the season. Donarski hit 6 of 10 shots with a pair of 3-pointers. Maddie Webber led the Wildcats (4-2) with 12 points on 4-for-7 shooting from beyond the arc. Lara Edmanson pitched in with 11 points and seven rebounds. The Tar Heels held Villonova's leading scorer Jasmine Bascoe to two points after she came in averaging 16.6 per game. Bascoe missed all seven of her shots — three from distance — and made 2 of 4 at the free-throw line. Ustby had seven points and Donarski scored five to guide the Tar Heels to a 17-7 lead after one quarter. Donarski scored five more in the third quarter to help North Carolina turn a 30-18 lead at halftime into a 44-23 advantage heading to the final period. North Carolina shot 40% from the floor, made 5 of 17 from beyond the arc (29.4%) and 4 of 6 at the foul line. Villanova shot 23.5% overall but made 5 of 18 from distance (27.8%) and 7 of 10 free throws. The Tar Heels scored 15 points off of 21 Villanova turnovers. They turned it over 14 times but it led to only three points for the Wildcats. North Carolina outscored Villanova 30-14 in the paint and never trailed. ___ Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here . This is the moment we’ve all waited for and we’re finally shopping like it is our job. Because it is ! As we have with the last two Prime Days , our shopping and deals crew has rounded up the top items we’ve decided to buy this week during all of the big Black Friday deals . We’ve got a decade of experience with shopping online and watching Black Friday sales, so these are our predictions for products we expect to see on sale this week. Some of these hot-ticket items are also expected to sell out fast . We saw an early Black Friday Dyson Airwrap deal sell out in a day just a few weeks ago. Each member of the team has narrowed down some of the top coveted items we’re hoping to snag at a discounted rate during all of these Black Friday sales. New skincare from Paula’s Choice , Belif and BIODANCE I plan to restock my skincare lineup when Belif, BIODANCE, and Paula's Choice run their Black Friday deals. Amazon I’m Ana, the manager of the Content Innovation & Digital Growth team, and I am still trying to recover from the days of using St. Ive’s face wash and over-exfoliating my skin. I wait all year and snag everything during Black Friday or Prime Day to stock up on what I need. Black Friday always tends to be the best day to score the biggest deals on the brands I love, like Paula’s Choice , Belif , and BIODANCE . The big bottle of Paula’s Choice SKIN PERFECTING 2% BHA Liquid Salicylic Acid Exfoliant is normally a whopping $35, but for Black Friday it is down to $27. While Paula’s Choice has markdowns, I’ll also snag some of their C15 Super Booster (24% off) to help get rid of hyperpigmentation on my skin. I’ve read online these two are like a power duo to minimize the appearance of pores and help bring more life to your skin. These might just be buzzwords, but they’re working on me. For the last three Black Fridays, I’ve bought this belif The True Cream Moisturizing Eye Bomb for anywhere between 30% to 50% off and I plan to do the same in 2024. It always lasts me the full year, since I use it only at night and I’ve never had an issue with it in all of these years. It is perfect for my sensitive skin and keeps the skin around my eyes soft and smooth. I’ll probably pick up the brand’s Cooling Eye Gel for a morning pick-me-up since it is 34% off. As I’ve mentioned before, I am the TikTok-obsessed member of my team. That means I got sucked into trying BIODANCE Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask , and the hype is real. This mask is like a breath of fresh air for my skin. It is so intensely hydrating, which means I need to snag as many discounted packs as I can get ahead of the cold winter months. A 4-pack is currently 32% off for Black Friday, while the 16-pack is 30% off. A new pair of HOKA Clifton 9 sneakers I'm hoping to score a great deal on the HOKA Clifton 9 during Black Friday sales this week. HOKA For me, Black Friday is typically a restock time. I don’t want a PS5 or a new TV, I want to replace my favorite things that desperately need it. I am a HOKA girlie and have been for years now. I’ve worn my Clifton 9 sneakers into the ground. Literally . The bottoms of my soles have officially worn out around the toes and I need to put my current pair to rest. I have a pair of Bondi 8 sneakers but have found those are better suited for my 30,000 step days in Disney World and my HOKA Clifton 9 sneakers are my preferred shoe for walks around my neighborhood and at my Rumble boxing classes. My current pair is just the classic Black/White colorway , and I want to restock those exact sneakers. But, if I were to see these on super sale, I’d be inclined to snag two pairs and get a new color as well, I’ve got my eye on the Sunlit Ocean / Lilac Mist and Frost / Rose Gold colorways. A slew of Amika hair products Another restock I plan to do for Black Friday is on Amika haircare, when the brand slashes prices by around 30% off. Amazon I wasn’t kidding that Black Friday has a recurring theme for me: restocking. The final thing I plan to restock is my Amika staples. I have been growing my hair out for years and it has been a success in large part due to investing in quality hair products, and Amika is a brand I’ve grown obsessed with over the last few years, but it comes with a hefty price tag. The Top 2 Amika products that I’m planning to grab when they go on sale are the Amika Hydro Rush Intense Moisture Leave-In Conditioner and Amika Soulfood Nourishing Mask . Both smell absolutely amazing and leave my hair feeling softer than ever. I tend to use the mask once a week and then use the leave-in conditioner every few days, I’d love to use it daily but at $29 per 200 ml, I try to conserve it. I’ve got my eye on the Amika Power Hour Curl Refreshing Spray to see if it goes on sale as well because I’m always on the hunt for a good curl product. Solo Stove Yukon Smokeless Fire Pit I plan to buy the Yukon Backyard Bundle while it is currently marked down by $290 for Black Friday. Solo Stove Hi, I’m Dawn, one of our team’s Shopping Tips & Deals writers and this is going to be a stellar year for Black Friday savings. I’m already seeing so many cheap sale prices, but I have my sights set on a few key items for the holidays. At the very top of my Black Friday shopping list is a Solo Stove Smokeless Fire Pit . This is a major splurge and I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention it’s been on the wishlist since summer. Our current fire pit burnt its last fire in early June and my husband and I’ve been mulling over a new one ever since. But unlike last time, we’re going big with the Solo Stove Yukon Smokeless Fire Pit . This fire pit carries a hefty price tag normally ($450) and if you decide to go with the Backyard Bundle like we are, it’ll cost you $940. But Solo Stove has big savings on its smokeless fire pits for Black Friday and the Yukon Backyard Bundle is $290 off, dropping its price to $650. Normally, I’d balk at the price but there are a few additional factors in this decision. First, the Yukon Backyard Bundle has everything (removable base plate, ash pan, shield, stand, lid, and shelter). So, instead of piecing all the accessories together afterward, you get them all in a bundle at a discounted price. Second, this fire pit is “smokeless,” and if you’ve ever seen the meme, no matter where I sit the smoke follows me. Yes, that is my superpower. Lastly, this fire pit has a lifetime warranty and I’m not buying another one ever again. The viral Orolay Down Jacket The Orolay Women's Thickened Down Jacket is 45% off on Amazon for Black Friday. Amazon More out of necessity than style, I’m grabbing the Viral Orolay Down Jacket for Black Friday. This viral jacket has sold out so many times on Amazon, I’ve lost count, but I’m expecting it to sell out again this year. The main reason this jacket is on my Black Friday wishlist is for warmth. I want a jacket that’s extremely warm to layer up with this winter. I am done freezing to get the mail, walk the dogs, take the garbage out, and run to my car in the snow and ice. I just want to be warm and this jacket looks like it will fit the bill. With over 28,000 positive ratings, the Orolay Down Jacket has become a fan favorite with its wind-resistant and waterproof design. It’s touted for its fleece-lined hood, numerous pockets, and fitted wristbands that keep the cold out. Reviewers have said, “Very warm, stylish, soft, and full of down for a cold winter,” and I hope when it arrives, I’ll agree. Currently, the Orolay Down Jacket is on sale for 45% off on Amazon, and I don’t expect it to creep any lower before the holidays. This one’s already in my cart in green. The kitchen essential Our Place Always Pan 2.0 The Always Pan is currently $55 off at Our Place for Black Friday. Our Place I waited a long time to finally decide that I needed and deserved the Our Place Always Pan . I’ve seen the commercials, read the articles, seen it in action online, and lusted over it on my social feed. But finally, I am giving into temptation and buying what I now consider an essential part of dinner planning and preparation. If you’re not familiar with the Always Pan , this famous pan replaces 10 pieces of cookware, including your fry pan, saute pan, steamer, roasting dish, baking dish, skillet, saucier, nonstick pan, spatula, and spoon rest. So, basically, this is the only pan you’ll ever need (or rather I’ll need) to cook with. This is also a viral product that has sold out multiple times since its release back in 2019. Now in its second generation, the Always Pan 2.0 has a toxic-free design, is oven-safe up to 450 degrees, and is just so nice to look at with a variety of colors to choose from. Thankfully, Our Place is having a Black Friday sale with the “lowest prices of the year” and the Always Pan 2.0 is now $95, instead of $150, for a savings of $55 off. So, this one is getting wrapped up under the tree just for me (in Spice). BÉIS best-selling luggage BÉIS luggage is at the top of my list, because I’ve written about the brand so many times, I know I finally need to join the party. BÉIS Hi, I’m Danielle, another Shopping & Commerce Writer on our Content Innovation team. To be completely honest, I’m not planning any huge frivolous Black Friday purchases this year because my husband and I spent a nice chunk of change on an end-of-year vacation for our 10-year wedding anniversary and we’re Christmas shopping for three kiddos already. I have a few things that I’d be happy to buy, though, if the price is too good to pass up. BÉIS luggage is at the top of my list because I’ve written about the brand so many times, I know I finally need to join the party. The last time we got new luggage was right before our wedding and, while the soft-side Samsonite 3-piece has served us well over the last decade, it’s high time we invested in some hard-shell suitcases. BÉIS has some of the sleekest carry-ons and check-in luggage around, and the neutral colors are trendy, but totally timeless, too. So, I’ve been thinking about snagging a Large Check-In Roller , a Medium Check-In Roller , and a Carry-On Roller for our family of five. BÉIS already has bundling offers where you can get 10% off when you combine two rollers and 15% off when you combine three rollers, but I’d love to see each piece 20-25% off for Black Friday, which would bring my total expense down by over $200 (reduced to well under $700). We’re thinking about a trip to Disney next year, so I might even take the opportunity to stock up on some kids’ luggage and backpacks for my little mousketeers , as well. The Real Life Play Kitchen from Lovevery At $300, this definitely isn’t a cheap gift, but Lovevery is offering up to 25% off sitewide / holiday bundle savings for Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Lovevery My youngest, who is two years old now, was a Lovevery baby through and through. He had Play Kits for every developmental stage, and we’ve passed everything down to my sister for her newborn to use as he grows up. Even my middle child, my little girl — who is 5 years old now — got an incredible amount of use out of her 4-year-old Play Kit last year. I have hyped the brand for years, telling parents, friends, and family members how amazing all of the playthings, books, and activity mats are, so I was so excited to hear about The Real Life Play Kitchen coming out. Designed for toddlers aged 18 months and older, this adorable pretend and practical play mini kitchen is a perfect Christmas present for my son — I can already picture it in the middle of his presents with a huge bow on it. What sets this play kitchen apart is its thoughtful design, which takes inspiration from always-popular water tables and trendy sensory bins. The sink has a gentle water flow and a spill-proof basin, so when the littles are playing, they won’t be making too big of a mess. The child-sized utensils and food-grade accessories, like a colander and cutting board, also lets toddlers and preschoolers mimic grown-up activities in a safe and scaled-down environment. Plus, the interchangeable colored and patterned backsplashes — six of them — add a personalized and highly aesthetic touch. I’m seriously obsessed with this kitchen because it’s not obnoxiously primary-colored or blaring with earworm-y songs or sounds and it encourages creativity and a sense of responsibility. I can imagine my little guy rinsing vegetables, chopping pretend food and drying dishes, and I can only hope those simple building blocks breed important life skills, cooperation and the concept of everyone in our family having a role and contributing. At $300, this definitely isn’t a cheap gift , but Lovevery is offering up to 25% off sitewide / holiday bundle savings for Black Friday/Cyber Monday. This first-time-ever move for the brand is knocking 10% off spends of $80+, 15% off spends of $125+, 20% off spends of $250 or more and 25% off spends of $500 or more. So, I can get the kitchen for $240, instead $300, through Dec. 8! Beekman 1802 Bloom Cream Daily Face Moisturizer Right now, the Jumbo Bottle is 35% off — $82, down from $108 — but if Black Friday brought an additional 10-15% off in discounts, I’d be sold. Beekman 1802 During this time of year, my hands are usually dry, red, and cracked. And I’ve used every hand lotion and body moisturizer out there to fix the problem, from Kiehl’s and CeraVe to Aveeno and Aesop. I honestly just tried Beekman to placate my mom, who couldn’t stop talking about how great “the goat’s milk beauty products” were, but after only a few days of using the Wicked Defy Gravity Whipped Body Cream (which I was, fortunately, able to sample ahead of the “Wicked” premiere), my hands were changed for the better — well, for the best, really. My skin has never felt softer and more youthful, and I’m a TOTAL convert now. Not only has this whipped body cream gone on without a greasy after feel, but it also absorbs instantly, and it leaves my hands smelling like fruity pebbles in the best way, thanks to the sweet Elphaba-inspired gourmand scent. I’m obsessed with this fluffy paraben and sulfate-free rich goat milk and creamy butter salve, and I’ll be heartbroken when the container is wiped clean. So, I plan on replenishing the “Elphie lotion mommy loves!” and also stocking up on some other hero body creams . While I’m at it, I’d also love to try Beekman’s famous Bloom Cream Daily Face Moisturizer with moisturizing goat’s milk, hydrating and pore-minimizing niacinamide. The company says this bestselling “elegant, lightweight formula is designed to work on all skin types and it literally blooms out of the bottle with every pump.” And if it works in any way like the Whipped Body Cream, then I will become a customer for life. Right now, the Jumbo Bottle is 35% off — $82, down from $108 — but if Black Friday brought an additional 10-15% off in discounts, I’d be sold. TCL 50-Inch Class S5 UHD 4K LED Smart TV with Fire TV (2024 Model) Amazon has the TCL 55" TV on sale of the lowest price of the year for Black Friday. Amazon I’m Victoria Rosenthal, associate editor for SEO/commerce on the Content Innovation Team. My TV is a relic from my college years. Despite it being an old geezer, it has withstood the test of time — 12 years to be exact. This 21-inch Samsung flat-screen has seen it all: all-nighters, breakups, procrastination, (not great) dorm room dance practice, Beyonce’s Super Bowl Halftime Show, the whole final season of “Breaking Bad.” Although this baby has been at my side for over a decade, it’s time for an upgrade. That upgrade won’t be so difficult or pricey since I’m going with the latest model of the TCL 50-inch Class S5 UHD 4K LED Smart TV with Fire TV . It’s a big enough size for a bedroom with a renter-friendly footprint. It has enhanced visuals and sound thanks to its 4K UltraHD resolution screen, Dolby Atmos Audio, and Enhanced Dialogue Mode for more intelligible and clear audio. Plus, I can actually enjoy playing video games with my Nintendo Switch , FireTV Stick with the Xbox Game Pass app, PlayStation 2, and PS4 on this larger TV in Auto Game Mode. It automatically turns on when you hook up a gaming console and uses the lowest possible input lag and latency for improved gameplay. It already has a 4-star rating on Amazon and a 4.2-star rating at Best Buy . And you can’t beat Amazon’s Black Friday deal that gives you 23% off, bringing the price down from $300 to $230. As a replacement for my beloved college TV, this one might be a winner. Ticket to Ride Board Game Amazon has “Ticket to Ride” on sale for $25 during its Black Friday sale. Amazon As a board and card game fan, I love trying out as many of them as possible. My favorites range from “13 Dead End Drive” and “Exploding Kittens” to “Jumanji” and “Nightmare The Video Board Game.” But one game I’ve always wanted to play more is “Ticket to Ride.” After playing it once in a board game café, I was hooked. A board game that’s meant to transport you into another world, time, or dimension and immerse you in the story will always be added to my cart. While going cross country to claim the most train lines and points, the competition, strategy, and fast pace bring excitement to the game, unlike some slow-burn titles that one might call boring (cough cough, “Monopoly” ). “Ticket to Ride” is easy to learn so anyone can quickly understand the gameplay and join in. Also, there’s a feature where Amazon Alexa can act as a player for a more immersive experience. She can keep track of gameplay and points and add atmospheric sound effects and music that transports you back to 1910 in the United States. Because of its $55 price point, I’ve always been hesitant to spend that kind of money on a board game. But now that Amazon has “ Ticket to Ride ” on sale for $25 during its Black Friday sale, that’s over half off the retail price. I have no reason not to buy it! The Best Black Friday Deals in 2024

Man arraigned on murder charges in NYC subway death fanned flames with a shirt, prosecutors sayTop campaign staff from Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential run have revealed that the popular YouTube show "Hot Ones," which often invites celebrities to be interviewed while eating wings that increase in spice level, refused to host Harris. Harris' staff retroactively evaluated her campaign in a Pod Save America podcast episode, in which they admitted that they attempted to get her onto "Hot Ones" as a guest, but the team behind the show declined their offer. The showrunners "didn't want to delve into politics," Stephanie Cutter, who ran messaging and media strategy for Harris, said on the podcast. "'Hot Ones,' which is a great show, they didn't wanna do any politics, so they weren't going to take us or [Trump]," Cutter said. "So that was the issue." Cutter further indicated that this was the response the Harris team received "across the board" when trying to get her onto similar non-partisan shows, despite some of these shows later welcoming then-presidential candidate Donald Trump onto their platforms. "I don't think he had the same problem," Jen O'Malley Dillon, a former Harris campaign manager, said. She noted that the Trump campaign "certainly was able to tap into some cultural elements in ways that we couldn't." Podcast host Dan Pfeiffer, a former communications director for Barack Obama, was shocked at "the idea that it would be more politically problematic to have on Kamala Harris, the sitting vice president of the United States, than Donald Trump, a man who's been convicted of a crime and tried to violently overthrow the election." Harris' campaign staff also reiterated their candidate's willingness to appear on the Joe Rogan podcast , noting that they attempted to get her on the podcast when she visited Austin, Texas, where Rogan lives, for her rally with Beyoncé . However, Trump was reportedly recording his episode on the podcast that same day, so they said scheduling issues prevented the episode from happening. Originally published by Latin Times.

Lindsey Vonn competes in a pair of downhills, another step on her comeback trail at the age of 40This writer is, well, a writer. She has a background and degrees in English and nursing but no formal political experiences. That being said, she was one of the people who said that Donald Trump was going to win this election, despite the polls and media fawning. It came down not to the poll data but an exercise in logic: Joe Biden was ousted from the campaign because he was going to lose, and what did Kamala Harris do differently than Joe Biden to move the campaign needle? The answer was nothing, and the campaign didn't act like one that was winning. The big giveaway was the Kamala campaign reaching out to reliably Democrat voter blocs while Donald Trump was making appearances in bluer areas, as this writer mentioned here. And now that the election is over, it's okay for the former Kamala campaign staffers to admit what this writer (and many others) knew all along: she was never going to win. BREAKING: Kamala Harris campaign aides are now saying that internal polling never actually had her ahead of Donald Trump. Least surprising revelation of this campaign cycle, frankly. "Plouffe said the campaign’s internal polling never had Harris ahead of Trump." WTAF! https://t.co/oJOBWWoQyX More from Huffpost: And she might not have had much chance of winning anyway, given the deficit she inherited from Biden when he dropped out of the race in July. 'We were hopeful. I don’t know how optimistic we were, but we thought, OK, this is tied, and if a couple things break our way [we could win],' David Plouffe, a senior adviser to the campaign, said Tuesday on the ' Pod Save America' podcast in a joint interview with fellow Harris campaign alums Jen O’Malley Dillon, Quentin Fulks and Stephanie Cutter. Plouffe said the campaign’s internal polling never had Harris ahead of Trump. 'We didn’t get the breaks we needed on Election Day,' he said. 'I think it surprised people, because there was these public polls that came out in late September, early October, showing us with leads that we never saw.' Internal polling was always negative. The True ET Analyzers never bought the idea that Kamala is 'brat' and that it was the summer of 'joy & vibe' pic.twitter.com/afFTZZGc6C The campaign wasn't 'brat' or 'joy', but it was a whole bunch of cringe. A body language commentator has suggested that one particular campmate on I'm A Celebrity could end up "susceptible" to quitting the ITV show in the coming days. Dean McCullough , 32, has faced more bushtucker trails than any other celebrity so far on the new series, having taken on four trials in the last week. The BBC Radio 1 presenter however hasn't managed to win many stars for the camp. One trial, which aired on Wednesday night, saw Dean joined by fellow campmate and podcast host GK Barry, 25. The pair failed to win any stars for camp, though Dean has since won stars in subsequent trails in the jungle. Following Dean's trial with GK, behaviour and body language commentator Nicole Greenfield-Smith teased to Mecca Games that he could end up quitting I'm A Celebrity. Nicole said: "I thought [Wednesday's] trial was interesting and if Dean flunks many more trials, it could leave him susceptible to walking." The commentator added: "Firstly, Dean and GK Barry in a bushtucker trial proved to be a disastrous combo - even though they went in with the best intentions. We all have 'mirror neurons' which enable us to connect and empathise with others. This means we are highly sensitive to the mood, tone of voice and body language of those around us. "So, if we hear someone screaming and panicking it intensifies our own fear, which is exactly what happened with the hapless duo and why they left the trial with zero stars." Nicole continued: "The challenge moving forward is that hunger, the rain, and tiredness will serve to escalate the emotional responses of the campmates and reduce their tolerance significantly. If Dean continues to be selected for trials and lets his fear dominate, it's likely that some of the other campmates will lose patience with him for not delivering the goods. "Our brains are wired for social connection and cooperation. Disappointing others can trigger feelings of rejection, shame, or guilt, which may well tip Dean over the edge." Viewers teased earlier this week that I'm A Celebrity host Ant McPartlin , 49, was himself frustrated by Dean in a subsequent trial, which he quit after winning four stars. Ant later admitted that his "annoyance came across onscreen" . Elsewhere in the analysis from body language commentator Nicole earlier this week was the suggestion that campmate Alan Halsall 's patience seems to be "on the wane" in camp. Nicole wrote about the Coronation Street cast member: "Alan's patience already seems to be on the wane with several side glances, sighs and subtle gestures that suggest disapproval in [Wednesday's] episode." SOUTHLAKE, Texas — Shots were fired after a crash near a Southlake shopping center Friday morning where hundreds of people were lined up for a turkey giveaway, police said. One suspect, later identified as Sean Jordon, 19, of Colleyville, was arrested on a complaint of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and no injuries were reported, according to an update from the Southlake Department of Public Safety. Officials say more charges may be pending. The incident, which happened in the area of Southlake Boulevard and Carroll Avenue, was a reported wrong-way driver crash that "escalated to an altercation which escalated into shots being fired," officials said. The Southlake Department of Public Safety said they responded to reports of a wrong-way driver in the 600 block of W. Southlake Boulevard near Carroll Avenue around 9:30 a.m. The driver hit multiple cars before crashing in the 1400 block of E. Southlake Boulevard, officials say. Officials posted on social media around 9:45 a.m. that the incident had spread to the area of the Central Market, which is located on the southeast side of the intersection of Southlake Boulevard and Carroll Avenue. As the first officer arrived, officials say the driver pulled out a rifle and began firing shots toward another driver and officer. Surveillance footage from Markham Fine Jewelers captured the chaotic scene as the shooting occurred: WFAA chopper footage showed a heavy police presence on the scene and a vehicle that appeared to be damaged from the crash. Officials were asking people to avoid the area. A witness, John Maxwell, described pulling up to the scene on Southlake Boulevard and seeing the crashed vehicle before hearing gunshot in an interview with WFAA's Scoop Jefferson. “I’m sitting there and I start hearing – it’s like they always say, you think it’s fireworks and you look in your rearview mirror and you’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, people are scattering, those were gunshots.’ It was probably – it was at least 10 gunshots,” Maxwell said. “I was glad to hear that nobody died, because it was a lot of gunshots.” A manager at Markham Fine Jewelers said a bullet hit the store's reinforced glass window, but no one was injured. WFAA received video of a person being taken into custody by several officers in the middle of a road. This is a developing story. We'll update this story as additional information becomes available.

The San Antonio Spurs would be sleeper contenders if they added one more star to their core; is it impossible to suggest that San Antonio might call the Los Angeles Lakes about LeBron James? James rumors are flying everywhere these days, and while he’s publicly denied any interest in leaving LA, we all know that’s just politically correct protocol from LeBron. LeBron on the Spurs would be way more exciting than what’s happening in Los Angeles, and LeBron has to know this. A core of Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle, Chris Paul, and James would be a wondrous mix of young, generational talent and veteran all-timers. There’s no reason why that core couldn’t contend, either, even in the crowded Western Conference. Fadeaway World’s Eddie Bitar outlined a possible Spurs-LeBron deal on Thursday. It would be Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, and a trio of first-rounders for the King. “For the Spurs, this trade is a statement of intent to contend sooner than expected,” Bitar said. “However, while this deal gives San Antonio a path to compete, the Lakers might be reluctant to give up LeBron for assets that, while valuable, lack the immediate impact needed for another championship run.” “Devin Vassell is a dynamic two-way wing who could fit seamlessly into the Lakers' rotation (16.6 PPG, 2.8 APG), while Keldon Johnson brings scoring and leadership (12.7 PPG, 5.3 RPG), though he still has room to develop. The multiple first-round picks—especially the 2027 ones—offer the Lakers a path toward a potential rebuild but might not be enough for Rob Pelinka to accept.” Indeed, the Lakers are sure to receive other offers for LeBron, some of which might trump a Spurs’ package. Still, San Antonio should have an offer ready and stay in contact with LA in case other deals fall through. More NBA: Knicks could acquire Lakers superstar in shocking three-team tradeCATL has unveiled two standardized Choco-SEB battery packs and plans to launch one new car model that uses the packs with partners in each of the next 10 quarters, according to a report by CnEVPost . The Chinese battery company announced the launch of standardized battery packs for passenger cars and unveiled aggressive infrastructure plans at a Choco-SEB (swapping electric block) conference at its headquarters in Xiamen on December 18, 2024. The company launched EVOGO — its battery swap brand — on January 18, 2022. The brand is operated by a subsidiary, Contemporary Amperex Energy Service Technology. Previously, CATL planned on using small swappable battery packs so that a vehicle could use one or more packs depending on its range requirements. At today’s event, the company made a significant change to that concept, turning swappable battery packs into a single pack that a conventional vehicle would use. The two new standardized Choco-SEB battery packs today will be known as #20 and #25. CATL will continue to push for the standardization of swappable battery packs, with their core feature being the standardization of battery sizes, said Robin Zeng, founder, chairman, and CEO of the battery maker. He believes that by 2030, battery swap, charging at home, and charging at public charging stations will each fulfill one third of the needs of electric car owners. The #20 Choco-SEB pack is for A0-class EVs, while the #25 pack is for larger A- and B-segment vehicles. Both batteries have lithium iron phosphate and lithium ternary options. For the #20 pack, the LFP battery has a capacity of 42 kWh and provides a range of about 400 kilometers. The pack based on lithium nickel cobalt ternary chemistry has a 52 kWh capacity and provides a range of 500 kilometers. For the #25 battery pack, the pack based on the LFP chemistry has a capacity of 56 kWh and provides a range of 500 kilometers. The pack based on ternary chemistry has a capacity of 70 kWh and can provide a range of 600 kilometers. The CATL battery swap service adopts a battery as a service strategy similar to that pioneered by NIO, which allows the customer to just buy (or lease) the vehicle body and rent the battery. NIO allows customers to purchase vehicles that include the battery, which CATL cannot do, as it does not manufacture vehicles — yet. The company has talked recently about developing an electric car platform of its own that other companies could buy to use as the basis for their own EVs. In terms of pricing, customers can rent the #20 LFP battery for RMB 369 ($51) per month. That price includes up to 3000 km of driving. Or they can select unlimited mileage for RMB 469 ($64) per month. For the #25 LFP pack, the price is RMB 499 ($68) per month for up to 3,000 kilometers of driving or RMB 599 ($82) per month for unlimited mileage. No prices for the ternary battery packs have been announced as of yet. Along with these details, CATL announced that it has signed subscription orders for 107,500 Choco-SEB batteries with more than 30 companies, including Changan Automobile and China FAW Group, and that all its new battery technologies will be used in those packs in the future. It also says it has entered into partnerships with a number of car companies to jointly launch 10 models that using the Choco-SEB battery packs. On November 22, Changan, CATL, and CAES held a signing ceremony for the battery swap program and showcased the Oshan 520 electric sedan, a sub-brand of Oshan that supports battery swapping. On December 14, China FAW Group’s Hongqi brand announced that it will co-develop models using Choco-SEB technology with CATL. CATL also unveiled ambitious infrastructure plans, saying its battery swap stations will reach 1,000 next year, with a medium-term plan to build 10,000 stations to support the business. The first 1,000 battery swap stations will be built by CAES, while the next 10,000 battery swap stations will be built by CAES and partners. CATL’s long-term goal is to reach 30,000 battery swap stations. The only other company that is pursuing battery swapping technology is NIO , which has opened more than 2,700 battery swap stations in China and has plans for at least 5,000. It also has about 60 swap stations in northern Europe. Changing a battery using a NIO swap station takes less than five minutes. “By 2030, battery swapping, home charging, and public charging stations will share the market,” Robin Zeng , the CEO of CATL, predicted this week. According to ABC News , he appealed to corporate partners to work together to “build more convenient, more economical, and safer services for customers, promoting a brand new way of life.” China auto market analyst Lei Xing told ABC News he believes that swapping batteries can complement China’s charging network. “I don’t see it becoming mainstream, but I do see it becoming a key part of that infrastructure landscape,” he said. Michael Davidson, a renewable energy expert at the University of California, San Diego, said he thinks that charging will dominate “and maybe there’ll be some battery swapping options mixed in there.” Maybe so, but it is safe to assume that CATL has done its homework and has reason to believe plenty of drivers will choose the battery swap option. For one thing, the cost of renting the batteries is quite modest when you consider it eliminates the cost of electricity to charge them separately. For another, it ensures drivers they will always have access to the latest battery technology. Finally, it eliminates concerns about battery degradation and having to pay to replace a battery pack once the factory warranty expires. Those are some pretty major considerations in favor of battery swap technology. The concept is ideal for fleet vehicles — taxis, buses, and commercial trucks — that have a standard model and often travel fixed routes. CATL launched a small pilot project two years ago aimed at taxis and will start the rollout of its new battery swap service with fleets before expanding to individual drivers at a later date, said Zhang Kai, the deputy president of CATL’s battery swapping subsidiary. Swapping is still faster than fast charging. An EVOGO swap stations can change a battery pack in 100 seconds, said Yang Jun, the CEO of the subsidiary. Time is money for taxi and truck drivers. Wang Wubing, a driver at China’s popular Didi ride-hailing service, said at an EVOGO station in the city of Xiamen that he swaps batteries to save time so he can pick up more customers, but it is more expensive than charging. That seems a little hard to believe given that the larger LFP battery with unlimited mileage rents for just $82 a month. One would think electricity for someone who is driving all day every day would cost a lot more than that. There’s also the fact that some people live in condos or apartments where they have no option to charge at home. In such cases, battery swapping can help greatly to make driving an EV comparably convenient to driving a gas-powered car. New Delhi There is more than one way to look at the assembly election results for Maharashtra and Jharkhand. And there is merit in looking at each of them in some detail. Here are three questions that can help us understand the results. The incumbent party/alliance is coming back to power with a bigger majority in both Maharashtra and Jharkhand. What explains this? The question is an interesting one because the results in both these states are in stark contrast to what happened in the Lok Sabha elections less than six months ago. What really happened in this short period. The other important question is that of identity-based ideological affinity to parties and its role in shaping the verdict. Let us look at them one by one. What is one thing both the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led government in Jharkhand and the Mahayuti government in Maharashtra did before the elections? They announced cash transfer schemes for women; Ladki Bahin in Maharashtra and Maiya Samman in Jharkahnd. Hemant Soren or Eknath Shinde were not the first chief ministers to do this. Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal and Shivraj Singh Chauhan in Madhya Pradesh have won landslide victories in their states with tail winds from similar schemes. Even the BJP government in Haryana promised a cash transfer scheme to women. It was important enough to find a mention in the speech Narendra Modi made from the BJP headquarters on the night of the Haryana results. The key takeaway is simple. Welfare, freebies, doles, whatever one may choose to call it, is becoming an indispensable part of electoral strategy in most parts of India. It does not matter whether it is a poor state or a rich one – Jharkhand and Maharashtra are extreme examples of each of these – the underclass expects tangible, even if seemingly insignificant to the well-off, amount of money in return for votes. Fiscal hawks may scoff at this trend, but it is the democratic response to what has otherwise been an extremely unequal trajectory of economic growth in the country. This trend is not going anywhere. Both the government and markets should take note. What was one thing which Narendra Modi did right when the BJP had its back against the wall after losing to the Congress in 2018 assembly elections? National security hawks will say may be the Balakot air strikes in the aftermath of terror attack in Pulwama changed the narrative. But the retrospective cash transfer scheme for farmers or PM-KISAN which was perhaps an even bigger factor. Rural distress, thanks to a worsening of terms of trade for agriculture, played a big role in generating headwinds for the BJP in not just Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh in 2018 but also Gujarat in 2017. Modi realised that this anger had to be pacified and this is exactly why he announced a retrospective -- send money now verify eligibility later -- scheme before the 2019 general elections. The rest, as they ,say is history. The Congress collapsed even in states where it had formed governments less than six months previously. Fast forward to the 2024 interim budget and this is exactly where the Modi government got it wrong. There was absolutely nothing for the underclass in the 2024 interim budget which was not just hawkish on fiscal consolidation but actually cut back on revenue expenditure (if interest payments were to be excluded) even in nominal terms. Revenue expenditure is what matters if you want to swing an election a few months away. If the 2024 interim budget had been more like the 2019 one, would the BJP have done better? In hindsight, particularly after the Haryana and Maharashtra results, there is evidence to suggest that it would have, and that the 2024 Lok Sabha verdict was more against the BJP’s fiscal stance than its ideological stance. Last but not the least is the question of identity. Does it really work in elections? Ask different people and you will get a different answer. Hemant Soren is now the most successful Schedule Tribe (ST) leader in not just Jharkhand but almost all of India outside the northeast. Not only has he swept the ST reserved ACs in the state but built a coalition which has demolished the historical fault line between ST and non-ST voters in the state. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and almost the entire leadership of the BJP tried very hard to convert the ST vs non-ST binary – the BJP made a non-ST the chief minister in 2014 and did not name a chief ministerial candidate in these elections – into a Hindu-Muslim one in Jharkhand. They failed miserably. The two Shiv Senas are an even bigger example. Uddhav Thackeray’s faction tried to do an ideological somersault by joining hands with the Congress. He first lost most of his legislative party to Eknath Shinde and then almost his entire popular support. What is the key takeaway from these examples? Identity can help your politics but promiscuity blunts its edge. And identity-based projects are not built in a day. The JMM has been a party of STs from the day it was born. The Shiv Sena embraced Hindutva along with nativism decades ago. The only contradiction in this alliance was whether it was willing to become a junior partner of the BJP. Uddhav Thackeray did not want to do it. Today’s results – the BJP’s MLA count is more than double that of the Shiv Sena which was its partner – should settle that question. Also, amorphous, friction-ridden identities do not work. This is exactly why things such as caste census or Maratha reservation politics have had very little traction in these elections. Is there a larger lesson to be drawn here? Acing electoral politics in India requires economic pragmatism and ideological consistency. You cannot force voters to accept an economics which suits the elite and ideology which is oblivious to entrenched social contradictions in the electoral realm. The former is mostly uniform in India and the latter extremely diverse. This is what makes Indian democracy fascinating.Who Is Connor Gaydos? New PCOS machines undergo a field test by the COMELEC and Smartmatic at the Marikina Highschool, Concepcion, Marikina City. INQUIRER FILE PHOTO/RAFFY LERMA The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday reported the disposal and sale of precinct count optical scanner (PCOS) machines that had been deemed unserviceable more than a decade since their first use. Comelec Chair George Garcia released a copy of the commission’s Dec. 18 en banc resolution approving the decision of the Comelec Disposal Committee (CDC) regarding the old PCOS machines, which were used in the 2010 and 2013 elections. READ: Comelec auctions off ‘unserviceable’ vote count machines The PCOS machines—and their successors known as vote-counting machines (VCMs)—were provided by the company Smartmatic, the country’s first automated poll service provider. Through the years, poll watchdogs, politicians and other critics have questioned the reliability of the PCOS and VCMs, citing reports of malfunctions, inaccuracies and alleged tampering. The Comelec in November 2023 disqualified Smartmatic from all of the poll body’s procurements following allegations of corruption against the company’s officials and former Comelec Chair Andres Bautista. Next year’s midterm polls will be handled by a joint venture led by South Korean firm Miru Systems. According to the Comelec resolution, the unserviceable PCOS machines had been sold to a Pateros-based company, Microsphere System Technology, which submitted the highest bid of P12,264,000 during the auction held by the CDC on Dec. 17. In a message to reporters, Garcia said a total of 81,776 PCOS units were sold and that the Commission on Audit’s appraisal of the entire lot was only P4.5 million. In November last year, Garcia said some 80,000 PCOS units, as well as about 97,000 VCMS used in the 2016, 2019 and 2022 polls, were being kept at the Comelec warehouse in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna. The Comelec also found a buyer for the old plastic containers used for the PCOS machines and VCMs, as well as for yellow metal ballot boxes and plastic pallets that were no longer in use. The items went to RHT Storage Center, a company based in San Mateo, Rizal, which gave the highest bid of P202,800.

The former Labour PM said the death of his newborn daughter in 2002 did “not convince me of the case for assisted dying; it convinced me of the value and imperative of good end-of-life care”. In a rare intervention ahead of the Commons debate on the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill on Friday, November 29, Mr Brown shared a glimpse of the time he and his wife Sarah spent with their baby, Jennifer, who died when she was only 11 days old. Writing in the Guardian newspaper, Mr Brown said: “We could only sit with her, hold her tiny hand and be there for her as life ebbed away. She died in our arms. “But those days we spent with her remain among the most precious days of my and Sarah’s lives.” While he acknowledged that at the heart of the assisted dying debate is a “desire to prevent suffering”, the former Labour MP called for a commission on end-of-life care to be set up, instead of the law change which MPs will consider. This commission, he said, should work to create a “fully-funded, 10-year strategy for improved and comprehensive palliative care”. “When only a small fraction of the population are expected to choose assisted dying, would it not be better to focus all our energies on improving all-round hospice care to reach everyone in need of end of life support?” he said. Mr Brown added: “Medical advances that can transform end-of-life care and the horror of people dying alone, as with Covid, have taught us a great deal. “This generation have it in our power to ensure no-one should have to face death alone, uncared for, or subject to avoidable pain.” Kim Leadbeater, the Labour MP sponsoring the assisted dying Bill through the Commons, said she was “deeply touched” by Mr Brown’s decision to share his story. The Spen Valley MP said she agreed completely with his calls for better end-of-life care. But Ms Leadbeater added: “He and I agree on very many things but we don’t agree on this. “Only legislation by Parliament can put right what Sir Keir Starmer calls the ‘injustice that we have trapped within our current arrangement’. “The need to address the inability of the current law to provide people with safeguards against coercion and the choice of a better death, and to protect their loved ones from possible prosecution, cannot wait. “So for me it isn’t a case of one or the other. My Bill already includes the need for the Government to report back to Parliament on the availability and quality of palliative care, and I strongly support further detailed examination of its provision. We need to do both.” Though Ms Leadbeater made reference to the Prime Minister as she set out her difference from Mr Brown’s position, Sir Keir has opted not to say whether he will support the Bill. MPs will be given a free vote on the legislation, meaning their political parties will not require them to vote for or against it, and it will be a matter for their personal consideration. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper is the latest senior minister to disclose her position on assisted dying, signalling to broadcasters on Friday that she may support the Bill. “I continue to support the principle of needing change but also to ensure that we’ve got the proper safeguards and systems in place,” she told ITV’s Good Morning Britain. Asked if that meant a “yes” when the Bill comes to the Commons, she replied: “I think I last voted on this about 20 years ago and so I have supported the principle in the past and continue to believe that change is needed but we do need to have that debate on the detail and I’ll continue to follow that debate next Friday.”March on the capital

NASHVILLE, Tenn (AP) — Nico Iamaleava threw for 257 yards and four touchdowns rallying No. 7 Tennessee from a 14-point deficit within the first five minutes to rout in-state rival Vanderbilt 36-23 Saturday. “Man, it couldn't have started any worse,” Tennessee coach Josh Heupel told his Vols postgame . “And you know what? Competitive composure ... You just kept coming. That's what elite people, champions do. You just keep coming.” The Volunteers (10-2, 6-2 Southeastern Conference; No. 8 CFP) needed a big victory to impress the College Football Playoff committee enough to earn a home playoff game in December. They beat Vanderbilt (6-6, 3-5) for a sixth straight season leaving the Commodores needing to win their bowl game to post their first winning record since 2013. Better yet, the Vols rebounded from a nightmare start giving up the first 14 points by scoring 29 straight points. They led 24-17 at halftime on Iamaleava's first three TD passes. “Once they took the momentum, we kind of allowed them to have it for the rest of the game," Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea said. "And you got to credit Tennessee. I mean, obviously, they were playing for the playoffs and credit coach Heupel and his team for their winning performance.” Junior Sherrill returned the opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown for Vanderbilt to stun a mostly orange crowd. Dylan Sampson fumbled on the Vols’ second play from scrimmage, and Sedrick Alexanader's 4-yard TD run on a 26-yard drive put Vandy up 14-0 quickly. Then Iamaleava got Tennessee going with a 28-yard TD pass to Dont’e Thornton Jr. Tennessee got a break when Max Gilbert's 50-yard field goal bounced off the crossbar and over. Iamaleava found Thornton again on an 86-yard catch-and-run TD, then he tossed an 18-yard TD pass to Miles Kitselman just before halftime. Iamaleava capped the opening drive of the third quarter hitting Mike Matthews with a 14-yard TD pass for a 31-17 lead. The Vols added a safety by Tyre West and another Gilbert field goal. Diego Pavia threw a 31-yard TD pass to Richie Hoskins late with Vandy's 2-point conversion failing for the final margin. Tennessee didn't make a good early impression with yet another slow start. The Vols need to hope for some help to have a chance at moving up a spot or two . The big question is whether the Vols get to host a playoff game in December at Neyland Stadium where they went undefeated this season. Tennessee put together TD drives of 91 and 96 yards in the first half alone. The Vols then beat Vandy at its own game of keepaway after not even managing 10 minutes of possession in the first half. They finished with the edge in that stat outgaining Vandy 538-212. Vanderbilt had some of the best offensive success against Tennessee of any opponent this season. The Commodores had 114 yards rushing and 17 points by halftime against a defense that came in ranked sixth nationally allowing just 98.8 yards a game. The Vols had been fourth in the country giving up just 13.1 points a game having held 10 of 11 opponents under 20 points this season. But Lea said the Commodores ran just 11 plays to Tennessee's 44 after halftime. The Tennessee running back, who set the program record with 22 rushing TDs this season, didn't reach the end zone for the first time this season. Sampson finished with 178 yards rushing to reach 1,485 yards for the season, topping the school mark of 1,464 set by Travis Stephens in 2001. Tennessee waits to hear its spot in the CFP field, while Vanderbilt learns its bowl destination Dec. 8. Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here . Richard Parsons, prominent Black executive who led Time Warner and Citigroup, dies at 76Lindsey Vonn competes in a pair of downhills, another step on her comeback trail at the age of 40A YouTube creator is accusing PayPal of fraudulent behavior tied to the internet browser extension Honey , which advertises finding and applying coupon codes for online shoppers . YouTube creator MegaLag posted a video titled, "Exposing the Honey Influencer Scam" on Dec. 21 accusing Honey, which is owned by PayPal, of deceiving consumers and influencers by hijacking links that pay influencers for products they promote, providing limited coupon options and publishing inaccurate advertisements. The 23-minute video , the first in a three-part series, according to MegaLag, had more than 9.4 million views, as of Thursday morning. The video concludes with what appears to be a tease for a follow-up. "I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up going down as one of the most aggressive, shameless marketing scams of the century," MegaLag said in the video . In response to the video, PayPal Chief Corporate Affairs and Communications Officer Amy Bonitatibus provided USA TODAY with the following response: “Honey is free to use and provides millions of shoppers with additional savings on their purchases whenever possible. Honey helps merchants reduce cart abandonment and comparison shopping while increasing sales conversion. Honey follows industry rules and practices, including last-click attribution." MegaLag denied to comment when contacted by USA TODAY. Here's what to know about the accusations made by MegaLag and where they line up with industry standards. What is Honey? Honey is a free browser extension that claims to find coupon codes during online shopping checkout. Honey was released in 2012 and PayPal purchased it in 2020 for approximately $4 billion, according to a PayPal news release . When PayPal acquired Honey, PayPal's news release said the shopping tool served about 17 million monthly active users and helped consumers save about $1 billion annually. After purchasing Honey, PayPal launched PayPal Rewards, which incentivizes using the Honey extension. PayPal users earn points when using the browser extension, even if they don't redeem any coupons, according to the Honey website. Those points can be used to redeem cash back, PayPal shopping credit or gift cards. In the video, MegaLag called this rewards program a "lame cashback scheme." The creator proceeded to provide an example of how much money he earned through an affiliate link versus PayPal Rewards cashback when making the same purchase. MegaLag provided an example completed through Honey Gold, Honey's former rewards program utilized before PayPal purchased it. When purchasing a NordVPN standard package (about $95) through his own affiliate link, MegaLag reported making about $35 from the sale. When purchasing the same package but activating PayPal Rewards, rather than using his affiliate link, MegaLag reported earning about 89 cents in cashback. Not the first creator to speak out In the video, MegaLag mentions that upon conducting research about Honey, there was virtually no other information on the topic. However, since the video has gained traction, a clip of YouTube creator Markipiler talking about Honey during a Twitch stream in 2020 has resurfaced. Mark Fischbach (the creator behind Markipiler) did not get into much detail, but he did voice his "distrust" for the shopping tool. "I think they've even offered me (a brand deal) and I said no because I just don't trust Honey," Fischbach said during the stream . "I have a feeling in like a couple years there's going to be the great Honey conspiracy of like 2022." The day after MegaLag's video published, Fischbach reposted his stream clip to X with the comment, "I KNEW IT!!!" Breaching affiliate links or last-click attribution? In the video, "Exposing the Honey Influencer Scam," MegaLag accuses Honey of breaching affiliate links. MegaLag sets up the following example: If a consumer clicks an affiliate link in the description of a YouTube video, the consumer will be taken to the corresponding website. Without using Honey, if the consumer makes a purchase from that link, the YouTube creator will earn a commission. Thinking in real-world scenarios, an affiliate link is similar to a salesperson helping a customer at a store. For example, if a department store salesperson helps a customer find and purchase a piece of jewelry, the salesperson earns commission. If a consumer has the Honey browser extension installed and accepts a Honey pop-up − whether it be a coupon the shopping tool offers or just a message indicating that Honey didn't find any coupons - Honey will earn a commission from the online purchase. The YouTube creator, whose affiliate link the consumer originally followed, will not receive a commission. This model is called last-click attribution, which gives credit to the last touchpoint a user interacts with before making a purchase. Though there are other types of attribution − such as first-click, which provides a commission to the first touchpoint interacted with − last-click is considered the industry standard. In the video , MegaLag claims Honey is "exploiting" last-click attribution. When it comes to content creator versus content creator, MegaLag says last-click attribution is usually fair, but when it is content creator versus Honey, "there's no real competition." "Honey pops up right at the end of your purchasing journey, virtually guaranteeing they'll win that last click," MegaLag says in the video . "They, of course, know this and do anything they can to get that last click. Even where there's no coupon codes to offer." Another industry standard when it comes to affiliate marketing is the stand-down policy . This policy, implemented by host sites, in this case a retailer, requests that browser extensions respect affiliate marketing. If a retailer utilizes a stand-down policy, extensions like Honey cannot claim credit, even if they are the last touchpoint, according to Wildfire , a fintech company that offers white-label cashback services. In response to the MegaLag video, YouTube creator Hank Green released a video, "The Honey Scam and the Ridiculous Mess of Affiliate Marketing" on Dec. 25. In his video, Green discussed how affiliate marketing functions in the "small business ecosystem." Green said the ecosystem of small business creators looking to make money and being attracted to affiliate marketing is "ripe for exploitation." "How responsible should creators be for understanding the business models of the companies that they do brand deals for?" Green posed in his video . "I am certain that many creators aren't really savvy enough or have the time to do that work. The brand deal ecosystem, it's where, for most creators, where most of the money comes from, so it can be really hard to say no and it can be really easy to try to not think too hard about how things work." Ultimately, like MegaLag, Green claimed Honey and PayPal are taking advantage of content creators. USA TODAY has reached out to experts for more context on best practices in the industry. Where does Honey source coupons from? MegaLag also accused Honey of offering limited coupon codes, not providing customers with all of the best options. In the video , MegaLag said he was often able to find redeemable coupon codes from other shopping tools like RetailMeNot when Honey indicated no coupons could be found. PayPal's Bonitatibus told USA TODAY that merchants ultimately decide what coupons are offered to consumers through Honey. When it comes to sourcing its coupons, Bonitatibus said they are manually gathered by Honey's team, sourced from deal networks, made available through merchant partnerships and sourced from users who share codes with Honey. Previous advertising concerns In the video , MegaLag also accused Honey of releasing dishonest advertisements claiming the shopping tool searches for all available coupon codes, implying that a customer who uses Honey does not need to search for their own coupons. In 2020, the National Advertising Division opened an inquiry into a Honey advertisement that claimed, "With just a single click, Honey will find every working code on the internet and apply the best one to your cart," according to a Better Business Bureau news release . However, Honey informed the National Advertising Division, after the inquiry was opened, that it had been in the process of discontinuing the ad for "business reasons," according to a Better Business Bureau news release . Honey also agreed to permanently discontinue the related advertisements. Thus, the National Advertising Division inquiry was closed. Who is MegaLag? MegaLag is a New Zealand YouTube creator who had 508,000 subscribers, as of Monday afternoon. JOHN LOTT: Illegal Immigrants Are Committing Crimes — Here’s The DataThe Lomani Amitabh B Pour Homme Perfume sells on Amazon for Rs 1,299 for a 100 ml pack. Legend 1942 also sells an Amitabh Bachchan range of men’s perfumes—Heritage White and Flamboyance Black. The price is steeper at Rs 3,750 for a 100 ml bottle. The “1942” in the brand name, in case you did not make the connection, is Bachchan’s year of birth. A new range was launched a couple of years ago, on his 80th birthday. Unfortunately, the perfumes don’t seem to be anywhere close to being the hot sellers that one would expect from Big B. They exist, but without much fanfare or franchise —a pale shadow of the legend they represent. I visited Nueva, Virat Kohli’s restaurant in Delhi. It was nice but it wasn’t exceptional. There is also One8 Commune now open in multiple locations. I have read mixed reviews of the restaurant, and those that have been there have provided only lukewarm feedback. Kohli, of course, also has athleisure, fragrances, footwear and more under the One8 brand . But is the brand vibrant and top-of-mind for consumers? My guess is, not exactly. Wrogn, too, is a Kohli brand. It has been around for almost a decade. But it isn’t really rocking either. Now contrast this. Globally, Rihanna, Reese Witherspoon, Kim Kardashian, Selena Gomez and many others have succeeded exponentially with their self-authored brands. Jessica Alba’s Honest is today a $1 billion brand as per Forbes. Drew Barrymore’s Flower Beauty sells $50 million annually in retail. Bethenny Frankel sold her Skinnygirl Cocktail to Jim Beam for $100 million. Salman Khan has had his ups and downs with Being Human; Ed-aMamma by Alia Bhatt had a slow start; Force IX by Akshay Kumar never really picked up momentum; Sachin Tendulkar’s and Virender Sehwag’s restaurant ventures never really took off—the fate has been similar for Deepika Padukone’s All About You, Sonam Kapoor’s Rheson, Anushka Sharma’s Nush, Shahid Kapoor’s Skult and Yuvraj Singh’s YouWeCan. Hrithik Roshan’s HRX is perhaps the only exception. The reasons are not difficult to unearth. 1. A celebrity name is not enough to launch and sustain a brand. Most celebrity-backed brands don’t have an actual sales organisation or a well-oiled marketing machine that nurtures, monitors or grows the brand franchise on a daily business. Most such brands do get a good ‘initial’ because of the PR hype and hoopla, but once that wanes, most brands start to falter. A brand needs all 4Ps in adequate measure to be a success—most celebrities think their brands will be self-propelled. 2. Most Indian celebrity brands have little or no differentiation, especially one moored in the celebrity’s key attributes. Skims by Kim Kardashian is shapewear that is anchored in her own persona. Kohli, as per the TIARA study of the Indian Institute of Human Brands (IIHB), is India’s Most Sexy and Most Stylish. But neither One8 nor Wrogn are top of the pops on Stylish or Sexy. Being mismatched with the celebrity is the first trigger of failure. 3. Virat Kohli has 270,608,489 followers on Insta but as many as 77,392,256 are said to be fake. So, despite a massive presence on social media, the social media fandom of Indian celebs doesn’t really convert into personal brand dollars. Kardashian has built the superlative success of Skims almost entirely on her robust and real social media base. 4. Big B is India’s Most Trustworthy as per IIHB. His perfumes don’t exude that same trust. Indian celebrities need to go to the B-school for a while if they really want to be in business. Nominations for ET MSME Awards are now open. NAPLES, Fla. (AP) — Angel Yin was making putts from across the green and threatening to build a big lead until Jeeno Thitikul finished eagle-birdie for a 9-under 63 to share the lead Saturday going into the final round of the CME Group Tour Championship with $4 million on the line. Yin had a 69 after another day of big putts and one chip-in from some 60 feet for eagle on the par-5 sixth hole that put her comfortably ahead at Tiburon Golf Club. She holed a 30-footer on the eighth hole, another birdie from about 25 feet on the ninth hole and another one from the 30-foot range on the 12th. Thitikul seemed to be an afterthought until she lit it up on the back nine for a 30. The Thai started the back nine with three straight bogeys, but she made up quick ground at the end with her eagle on the reachable par-5 17th and a birdie on the closing hole. The birdie briefly gave her the lead until Yin made birdie on the 17th to join her. They were tied at 15-under 201, three shots head of Ruoning Yin, who birdied her last two for a 66. Charley Hull had seven birdies in her round of 66 and was at 11-under 205, along with Narin An of South Korea. Nelly Korda, who got back into the mix on Friday after a sluggish start, lost ground with a 69 on a pleasant day that left her six shots back going into the final round. Korda has won four of her seven LPGA titles this year coming from behind. This could be a tall order. At stake is the richest payoff in women’s golf, $4 million to the winner, nearly as much as Korda has made all year in her seven-victory season. Thitikul already picked up a $1 million bonus this week through the Aon Risk-Reward Challenge, a competition based on how players score on a designated hole each week. Now she could leave Florida with a total of $5 million. “Actually, $1 million is really good enough for me,” Thitikul said. “If I can get more, it’s definitely going to be a nice, because as my team know I spend a lot of money. That’s why I have to keep playing good golf, like spending on shopping day.” Angel Yin heard plenty of cheers for her long birdie putts, and the chip-in for eagle. She also was helped by a couple of pars after bad drives. She went well to the left at No. 10, did well to blast out on a blind shot just short of the green and then got up-and-down with a pitch to 4 feet. And then on the 13th, another tee shot went well to the left. She tried to get it back in play from just in front of some bushes, and from 50 yards hit wedge to about 15 feet. She holed that putt, too, that kept her in front. “I’m scoring still,” Yin said. “Making some mistakes, but saving a bunch, so a lot of positives.” ___ AP golf:

mcw casino code Van Nistelrooy’s first game in charge ended with a 3-1 win over West Ham, thanks to goals from Jamie Vardy, Bilal El Khannouss and Patson Daka. The Dutchman, who was out of work for just two weeks following his four-game spell as Manchester United interim boss, only started on Sunday so was happy to end a hectic three days in style. “It has been very busy getting to know everyone, start working together,” he said. “Everybody was involved with that and helping, it was busy, long days, but worth it. I was focused on the game and what the game needed, the subs, the half-time talk, so focused on the moment, so I am going to get myself a little beer and reflect on the last three days.” He endured a dream start as Vardy scored after just 98 seconds with El Khannouss and Daka adding second-half goals. It was by no means one-way traffic, though, as West Ham – who scored a consolation through Niclas Fullkrug at the death – had 30 shots on goal. But Van Nistelrooy saw enough to think he can deliver on his objective of keeping the Foxes in the Premier League. “I am very happy, if you look at the result – and it is about the result – it was a great night, three points, three good goals and also very effective. “Overall the game of course we have seen and how dominant West Ham were at certain stages and what they created, that is a fact and something we have to look at. “Overall, what I expected of the players going forward was togetherness and hunger, energy and spirit in this team that is fighting for every inch. “Eleven players on the pitch who are fighting as a foundation to play the rest of the Premier League. I saw that completely with every single player that started and came on. “That’s the foundation we have to build on, without that it will be impossible to get where we want to go. I am very happy about that.” West Ham’s hierarchy will have seen what impact a managerial change can have as the jury remains out on Julen Lopetegui, with away fans making their feelings clear by chanting “You’re getting sacked in the morning”. Lopetegui expects to keep his job but forthcoming games against his former club Wolves, Bournemouth, Brighton and Southampton could determine the Spaniard’s future. “The only thing that I am worried about is to go to training session tomorrow and stand up the players and prepare the next challenge,” he said. “We have one month of December with a lot of matches and I am sure with this attitude we are going to achieve many more points. “I believe in the players. I am confident that tomorrow we are going to be ready to prepare the next match. “Understanding the question, but at the end of the season maybe we talk in another way. There are a lot of matches and points, a lot of things can happen. “I believe in these players and team, I am sure the position is going to be much better. They are only words but we have to work a lot to achieve this.”Maogeping, a technology startup specializing in artificial intelligence and data analytics, captured the imagination of investors with its innovative approach and promising growth prospects. GREATER NOIDA: The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) has finalised the blueprint for constructing New Agra Urban Centre to be developed along the 165km Yamuna Expressway that connects Greater Noida with Agra. The project will help urbanise agricultural land into a new hub of tourism, heritage and industrial clusters spread on 105,000 hectares. The New Agra will be developed on the agricultural land of 60 villages in the Etmadpur tehsil and will be divided into four key areas—industry, environment, heritage, and transport, said Yeida officials, adding that the project aims to balance modern urban development with the preservation of Agra’s historical legacy. Yeida had prepared the draft master plan along with a consultant that conducted surveys of the socio-economic and structural framework of the region. “After surveys it was finalised that at least 80% of the surveyed villages are in Hathras district, prompting Yeida to revise the plan to include more villages from Agra district to align with the project’s name and vision. The authority will now conduct on-site land verification to assess connectivity, encroachments, and other factors before submitting the proposal to the Uttar Pradesh govt for inclusion in Master Plan 2041,” said Arun Vir Singh, chief executive officer, Yeida. The New Agra project is planned to become a major destination for tourism, cashing in on Agra’s global appeal as home to the Taj Mahal and Fatehpur Sikri. The developmental model consists of carving out the models on the lines of the historical sites from around the world, including attractions themed after Hollywood and Bollywood, offering visitors a glimpse into global and Indian history. “Drawing inspiration from international cities, the New Agra Urban Center is planned as a vibrant, green, and modern city. We have given special emphasis on developing pollution free zones, particularly in the Taj Trapezium Zone (TTZ), to preserve the beauty and integrity of the Taj Mahal. We will allow only green industrial units with an emphasis on industries such as information technology, textiles, and soft toys,” said Singh, adding that the project will also feature theme parks, green belts, and ample recreational spaces to promote environmental sustainability,” said Singh. Traffic and transport issues in the region will also be addressed, with plans to create new routes, parking facilities, and public transport systems to alleviate pressure on existing highways. The center’s connectivity will be a central focus to ensure seamless access and infrastructure development.2. Ocean View Heights

(AP) — An online spat between factions of Donald Trump’s supporters over immigration and the tech industry has thrown internal divisions in the president-elect’s political movement into public display. The argument previews fissures and contradictory views his coalition could bring to the White House. The rift laid bare tensions between the newest flank of Trump’s movement — that is, wealthy members of the tech world who want more highly skilled workers in their industry — and people in Trump’s Make America Great Again base who championed his hardline immigration policies. A 9th telecoms firm has been hit by a massive Chinese espionage campaign, the White House says WASHINGTON (AP) — A top White House official says a ninth U.S. telecoms firm has been confirmed to have been hacked as part of a sprawling Chinese espionage campaign that gave officials in Beijing access to private texts and phone conversations of an unknown number of Americans. Administration officials said this month that at least eight telecommunications companies, as well as dozens of nations, had been affected by the Chinese hacking blitz known as Salt Typhoon. But Anne Neuberger, a deputy national security adviser, said Friday that a ninth victim had been identified after the administration released guidance to companies about how to hunt for Chinese culprits in their networks. Israeli troops burn northern Gaza hospital after forcibly removing staff and patients, officials say DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — Gaza's Health Ministry says Israeli troops have stormed one of the last hospitals operating in the territory's north on Friday and forced many of the staff and patients outside. Then they had to remove their clothes in winter weather. It was the latest assault on Kamal Adwan Hospital. Parts of it were set on fire. Staff say it has been hit multiple times in the past three months by Israeli troops waging an offensive against Hamas fighters in surrounding neighborhoods. Israel's military says Hamas uses the hospital as a base. It did not provide evidence, and hospital officials have denied it. Azerbaijani and U.S. officials suggest plane that crashed may have been hit by weapons fire U.S. and Azerbaijani officials have said weapons fire may have brought down an Azerbaijani airliner that crashed on Wednesday, killing 38 people. The statements from Rashad Nabiyev and White House national security spokesman John Kirby on Friday raised pressure on Russia. Officials in Moscow have said a drone attack was underway in the region that the Azerbaijan Airlines flight was destined for but have not addressed statements from aviation experts who blamed the crash on Russian air defenses responding to a Ukrainian attack. The plane was flying from Azerbaijan’s capital of Baku to Chechnya on Wednesday when it crashed, killing 38 people and leaving all 29 survivors injured. Court rules Georgia lawmakers can subpoena Fani Willis for information related to her Trump case ATLANTA (AP) — A judge has ruled that the Georgia state Senate can subpoena Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. It's part of a inquiry into whether Willis has engaged in misconduct during her prosecution of President-elect Donald Trump. But Fulton County Superior Court Judge Shukura Ingram is giving Willis the chance to contest whether lawmakers’ demands are overly broad before Willis responds. A Republican-led committee was formed earlier this year and sent subpoenas to Willis in August seeking to compel her to testify during its September meeting and to produce scores of documents. Willis argued that the committee didn’t have the power to subpoena her. US homelessness up 18% as affordable housing remains out of reach for many people Federal officials say the United States saw an 18.1% increase in homelessness, a dramatic rise driven mostly by a lack of affordable housing as well as devastating natural disasters and a surge of migrants in several parts of the country. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development said that federally required tallies taken across the country in January found that more than 770,000 people were counted as homeless. That increase comes on top of a 12% increase in 2023, which HUD blamed on soaring rents and the end of pandemic assistance. Among the most concerning trends was a nearly 40% rise in family homelessness. In states that ban abortion, social safety net programs often fail families MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee has a nearly total abortion ban and a porous safety net for mothers and young children. GOP state leaders in Tennessee and other states that banned abortion after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022 argue that they are bolstering services for families. Recent research and an analysis by The Associated Press has found that from the time a Tennessee woman gets pregnant, she faces greater obstacles to a healthy pregnancy, a healthy child and a financially stable family life than the average American mom. What Snoop wants: Arizona Bowl gives NIL opportunities to players for Colorado State, Miami (Ohio) TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — When Snoop Dogg agreed to become the sponsor of the Arizona Bowl, he had a demand: It must have a NIL component. Other bowls have provided NIL chances for single players the past few years, but the Arizona Bowl is believed to be the first to offer NIL compensation to every player on both Colorado State and Miami (Ohio). The players participated in youth clinics before Saturday's game and will be compensated for their time. Furthermore, tiptoeing is an excellent exercise for improving balance and coordination. The act of balancing on your tiptoes requires a high level of proprioception, the body's awareness of its position in space. By practicing tiptoeing regularly, you can enhance your proprioceptive abilities, leading to greater stability and coordination in your daily activities. Improved balance not only reduces the risk of falls and injuries but also enhances athletic performance and overall mobility.

While some may question the hefty price tag attached to the transfer, others believe that in today's inflated market, €61 million for a player of his caliber is a bargain. The potential return on investment, both on and off the pitch, could far outweigh the initial cost, making it a shrewd move by Chelsea's hierarchy.

Taylor Swift's concerts at Vancouver's BC Place Dec. 6, 7 and 8 are continuing to help local charities. The BC Children's Hospital Foundation on Saturday night (Nov. 30) auctioned 15 tickets to a private suite at one of the Taylor Swift Vancouver concerts for $290,000 – an impressive amount of money but it was not the most that a B.C. charity has garnered for a suite during one of Swift's concerts. The from a winning bid at its Vitality Gala live auction for 15 private suite tickets to see Swift sing in Vancouver. The BC Children's Hospital Foundation's weekend windfall at its Crystal Ball gala did, however, better some other B.C. charities that auctioned off tickets at suites to see Taylor Swift. The Victoria Hospitals Foundation at its Visions Gala Nov. 16 netted $260,000 by auctioning off a 15-person suite to see Swift. The BC Cancer Society was the first local charity to auction off a 15-person suite to see Swift. It raised $125,000 for that suite during an action at its Daffodil Ball in April. Combined, those four suites generated more than $1 million for the charities. PavCo, which operates BC Place, gifted the suites to be auctioned off, PavCo senior manager of marketing and communications Jenny McKenzie told “For every concert that comes through, we have a certain number of suites and tickets that [we get as] part of our partnership with that tour,” she explained. PavCo sometimes gives tickets and suites to what she called “stakeholders” related to PavCo, but the organization also donates access to suites and tickets to charities, she said. McKenzie said that PavCo has long had an informal system in place to provide suites and tickets to charities, and this year formalized what it is calling its BC Place Community Benefit Program. “By donating tickets, BC Place enables charities to raise critical funds while offering unforgettable experiences to their supporters,” she said. She added that the program reinforces PavCo’s role as a catalyst for positive change and social impact. The Canuck Place Children’s Hospice is another charity that has cashed in on excitement about Taylor Swift. It sold two sets of tickets—eight in total—to a Taylor Swift Vancouver concert for $46,000 at its November 2 Gift of Time Gala auction, which raised more than $1.63 million in support of Canuck Place. Toronto-based telecom Rogers Communications Inc. (TSX:RCI-B) is a presenting sponsor of the Canadian leg of Swift’s Eras tour, which includes six shows in Toronto and three in Vancouver. Because it is a presenting sponsor, it has access to many tickets for internal use. Some of those tickets are being given away to forge customer loyalty while others are being given to charities, Rogers’ senior manager of communication in Western Canada, Leann Yutuc, told Rogers has been giving away 35 pairs of tickets each week to different Rogers customers who enter draws, she said. “Specific to charities, we have given tickets to BGC Canada, Jays Care, Big Brothers Big Sisters Toronto and Canucks for Kids to distribute to their beneficiaries,” she said. Canucks for Kids received 40 tickets with those going to deserving families to attend a Taylor Swift concert, Yutuc said. Swift has been a vocal supporter of food banks and that has spurred fan Heidi Van Schaik to launch a Canada-wide initiative dubbed Tay It Forward. Waterloo, Ont.-based Schaik has set a goal to raise $1.3 million for Canadian food banks, with that amount chosen because 13 is said to be Swift’s favourite number, and it is one she has reportedly drawn on her hand before performances. Schaik is encouraging fans to make $13 donations, with the campaign slated to end December 13. A wide range of .

"LEQEMBI®" (Lecanemab) Approved for the Treatment of Early Alzheimer's Disease in MexicoKim Jong Un Vows 'Toughest' Anti-U.S. Strategy As Trump Nears ReturnPete Hegseth’s former colleagues at Fox News are rallying to his side. After disregarding a series of misconduct allegations against Hegseth for days on end, the right-wing network has shifted into a new posture: defense. On Wednesday, several prominent personalities on Fox News, where he was a weekend co-host of “Fox and Friends,” defended him on-air and provided a forum for others, including his own mother, to do the same. The right-wing network is highly influential in Republican politics and watched by millions of viewers, including President-elect Donald Trump, who has tapped several of the channel’s faces for key roles in his administration. Hegseth, Trump’s pick to run the Pentagon, is facing skepticism from Republican senators amid reports of a series of misconduct allegations, including a sexual assault allegation , which Hegseth has denied, and claims of financial mismanagement and alcohol abuse. Some commentators are practically talking about Hegseth in the past tense and speculating about who Trump will pick to replace him. But Hegseth is fighting to save his nomination in public; he is courting not just senators on Capitol Hill, but right-wing media listeners and followers who tend to vote for those senators. Amid the mounting scrutiny, Hegseth’s friends at Fox are simultaneously – and suddenly – speaking up on his behalf. Last week, when The New York Times reported on the existence of a scathing 2018 email from Hegseth’s mother Penelope saying he “abused” many women, comments a short time later she said she regretted, Fox ignored the story completely. The network also ignored a report in The New Yorker that indicated Hegseth was “forced out of previous leadership positions for financial mismanagement, sexist behavior, and being repeatedly intoxicated on the job.” Some of the allegations about Hegseth date back to his years at Fox, making this a complex situation for Fox Corp CEO Lachlan Murdoch and Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott. Penelope Hegseth’s emotional email, for example, was in response to Hegseth’s affair with a Fox News executive producer, Jennifer Rauchet, who is now his wife. On Wednesday morning – as Hegseth ramped up his own public defense – his mother appeared on “Fox & Friends” for her first television interview. She sidestepped host Steve Doocy’s first question, looked straight into the camera and thanked Trump, a frequent viewer of the show, “for your belief in my son.” “We all believe in him. We really believe that he is not that man he was seven years ago,” Penelope Hegseth said. She also addressed “female senators” on Capitol Hill, saying, “I really hope that you will not listen to the media and that you will listen to Pete.” She proceeded to condemn The Times for reporting on her email and emphasized that in a followup message, which has not been published, she had apologized to her son. The dominant narrative among Hegseth’s defenders is a tried-and-true one: That liberals in the media are out to get a conservative. Vice president-elect JD Vance said in a social media post Wednesday morning that “the media never talks about the apology” by Hegseth’s mother “because they’re trying to destroy him, not tell the truth.” (In fact, the original Times story noted the apology high up in the story and referenced it repeatedly.) Fox personality Emily Compagno said on Wednesday’s “Fox & Friends” that it’s “laughable” to think that Hegseth “will back down now or will in any way capitulate to the witch-hunt being wielded by the left.” During the same segment, co-host Brian Kilmeade delivered an impassioned argument on Hegseth’s behalf, saying “he knows his stuff, he’s got the vision, he fought in the wars.” Kilmeade asserted that many senators can relate to Hegseth’s complicated family (he has been married three times and has seven children or step-children) and can admire his advocacy for veterans. He also pointed to Hegseth’s appearances across Fox for the past decade as a valuable credential. “There’s no show he can’t do!” Kilmeade said. An anonymously sourced NBC News story about Hegseth and alcohol use caused some of his friends to speak out publicly on Tuesday night. Will Cain, the “Fox & Friends Weekend” co-host who sat next to Hegseth for five years, started the snowball effect. Cain repeatedly posted on X refuting the story and encouraged others to do the same. By midday Wednesday, the alcohol use allegations had spurred more than a dozen Fox hosts and regular guests to defend Hegseth, including the third co-host of the weekend show, Rachel Campos-Duffy. “This is why Americans hate the media & politics,” Campos-Duffy remarked. “GOP senators CANNOT fold to these cheap anonymous attacks,” Cain added. Kilmeade also alluded to the reports on air, commenting that “Pete is cut out of stone. He is a rock. The guy eats healthier, acts healthier, works harder.” Hegseth taped a sit-down interview with former Fox host Megyn Kelly and then told journalists on Capitol Hill that Kelly’s podcast would probably answer the questions they wanted to ask him. Hegseth told Kelly that he has “never had a drinking problem” but acknowledged that when he returned from a tour of duty he began drinking “to deal with the demons.” On “The Lead with Jake Tapper,” Hegseth’s attorney Tim Parlatore took aim at the anonymous nature of the media reports and referenced the defenses from Fox figures like Cain. “We have all these anonymous complaints where people are saying things, they aren’t giving any specifics, they don’t have any corroboration whatsoever, and yet the people who were also there at the time are willing to come on the record by name, on camera, and say ‘this didn’t happen.’” The defense of Hegseth rippled across right-wing media outlets on Wednesday. Whether the commentary will influence Republican senators remains to be seen. What is gender-affirming care? Your questions, answered

‘Gladiator II’ review: Are you not moderately entertained?

Haiti’s armed-gang crisis just got worse — and even more complicated. A new report by the United Nations’ leading child welfare agency, UNICEF, says the number of children being recruited by the country’s violent gangs has soared by 70 percent in the last year. The unprecedented spike, registered between the second quarter of 2023 and this year, is yet another example of how children in Haiti, already kept out of school due to violence and rape by gangs, are increasingly being robbed of their childhood. “Children in Haiti are trapped in a vicious cycle — recruited into the very armed groups that are fueling their desperation, and the numbers are growing,” said UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell. “This unacceptable trend must be reversed by ensuring children’s safety and welfare are prioritized by all parties.” As many as half of all members of armed gangs in Haiti are children, the U.N. said. This revelations come as Haiti sees an escalation in violence by armed groups and rising vigilantism by residents desperate to protect their neighborhoods from being overtaken. A separate report by the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime says that as the country finds itself trapped between escalating violence and political paralysis, criminal groups are taking advantage of the institutional collapse and political vacuum to expand their territories. “In a political-institutional vacuum, the gangs have weaponized violence to exert pressure on the system,” the report said. Last week, dozens of suspected gang leaders were killed by police and residents during an attempt to invade the upscale community of Pétion-Ville in the capital. While police put the official death toll at 28, Haiti’s National Human Rights Defense Network said the actual number killed after police intercepted three vehicles on Tuesday was 90. Overall, at least 108 people were killed over a three-day span of violence involving gangs and communities fighting back. In one of the photos of the Tuesday incident, the charred body of a young child could be seen in the back of a vehicle. A 43-year-old resident in the Bourdon community of the capital, who spoke to the Miami Herald on condition of anonymity out of fear for his safety, said that among three armed gang members he saw running through the community fleeing police was a boy around 12 years old toting an automatic rifle and wearing flip flops. “A 12-year-old child with a huge Galil in his hands, that is sad,” said the man, who like most people in the Port-au-Prince neighborhood was awakened by the sounds of gunfire and screams as police attempted to capture the invaders. “These children are the most dangerous.” A father of three between the ages of 4 and 18, the man said he is still shaken by the site of the heavily armed child, who was lost inside the community and trying to find his way out. “Children should not be living these kinds of things,” he said, blaming the recruitment of children by armed gangs on the government, which has failed to protect children and for years ignored an epidemic of street kids who have presumably been recruited into the armed groups. “The state has not taken responsibility.” UNICEF says that the rise in child recruitment by armed groups has been fueled by escalating violence, pervasive poverty, lack of education and near collapse of critical infrastructure and social services in Haiti. “Children are often coerced into joining to support their families, or under threats to their safety,” the agency said in a statement. “Many are recruited after being separated from their caretakers, stripped of protection and survival options.” The recruitment of kids, as well as the rape of girls in Haiti by armed gangs, is a grave violation of children’s rights, said UNICEF, calling on Haitian authorities to prioritize the protection of children. In Port-au-Prince, 1.2 million children live under the threat of armed violence. An estimated 25 percent of the more than 703,000 internally displaced people — of whom 365,000 are children — are currently in the city living under dire conditions and exposed to multiple threats. “Children in many parts of Haiti are subjected to atrocities no child should ever have to experience, leaving them with psychological and emotional scars that might haunt them for a lifetime,” Russell said. “Chaos and horror have become part of daily life.”

Viral Ring Girl Slams Haters: ‘Contrary to Popular Opinion, I Am Smart’

NoneIt’s not easy to defy gravity as a musical movie, particularly one that’s been adapted from a Broadway play. But with the record-breaking premiere of Universal Pictures’ “Wicked” last weekend, there may be more reason to try. The Jon M. Chu-directed adaptation topped the box office with a worldwide gross of $164.2 million, marking the biggest opening weekend for a movie based on a Broadway play, surpassing 2012’s “Les Misérables” ($103 million). The film’s domestic box-office total was $114 million. Bringing Broadway adaptations to the big screen can be a dicey proposition. For every “Wicked,” there is a box-office flop, such as Universal’s “Cats.” Film adaptations of Broadway plays come with established fan bases that already have expectations for a movie version, said Shawn Robbins, director of analytics at movie ticket-seller Fandango and founder of tracking site Box Office Theory. “When they don’t feel the source material is honored, they will let the world know, especially on social media,” he said. “Conversely, when it works, they’ll let people know it, too.” Universal, in particular, has a long track record of Broadway musical movies. (The studio is also behind a current musical stage adaptation of “Death Becomes Her,” based on the 1992 Universal film.) The studio has struck box-office gold in the past with the star-studded “Les Miserables” and “Mamma Mia!,” though it has also been panned for adaptations like 2019’s “Cats,” which was lampooned for its uncanny blending of CGI and real-life stars (such as Taylor Swift) to create the singing felines. Universal’s 2021 adaptation of “Dear Evan Hansen” also faltered after receiving brutal reviews. Lately, other movie musicals have misfired at the box office. Warner Bros. Pictures’ comic book sequel “Joker: Folie à Deux” stumbled in theaters this fall , grossing just $206 million worldwide on a reported budget of at least $190 million before marketing. Earlier this year, Paramount Pictures’ “Mean Girls” raised eyebrows for downplaying its musical roots in trailers and received lukewarm reviews from critics, though it met analysts’ box-office expectations . Warner Bros.’ “The Color Purple” struggled too. It’s tough to bring the energy of a live stage production to the big screen, not to mention choosing the right play to adapt in the first place. Successful Broadway-to-Hollywood productions typically have a relatable story for audiences, memorable music and are well-known enough to bring out loyal fans of the stage show as well as people who had always heard about the play but never went. “The studios are very wary of losing money. They’re also very wary of musicals because they are a very distinct genre that people either really love or hate, and that doesn’t bode well for the box office,” said Desiree Garcia, associate professor at Dartmouth College, who wrote a book called “The Movie Musical.” “So how do you have a musical, but also not break the bank to have it? The tried-and-true product from the stage is the way to do it.” It also helps that “Wicked” is based on decades of previous intellectual property. The film is adapted from the long-running stage play of the same name, which itself is loosely based on the 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire, a reimagining of 1939’s film musical, “The Wizard of Oz” and the original L. Frank Baum book. “We are a studio that, under Donna Langley, likes to take big swings when we see the opportunity,” said Jim Orr, head of domestic distribution at Universal Pictures. “Wicked was definitely a big swing.” Part of the success of “Wicked” can also be attributed to the studio’s aggressive marketing campaign, which saw Universal partner with 400 brands worldwide, including Target and Starbucks. Stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were everywhere in the months leading up to the movie’s release, making appearances at the 2024 Paris Olympics (which was broadcast by Universal’s sister division, NBC) and the Oscars, as well as an extensive press tour. That promotion has also driven interest in the film’s music. Since the film soundtrack came out Nov. 22, the signature song “Defying Gravity,” performed by Erivo as Elphaba and Grande as Glinda, has been streamed on Spotify almost 4.9 million times. Grande’s upbeat “Popular” is right behind it, at nearly 4.6 million streams. “Wicked: Part Two” is scheduled for release next year, which analysts expect will be highly anticipated. That audience anticipation could convince other studios to reconsider musicals, “and not treat them as the black sheep of genres,” said Robbins of Fandango. “That’s probably going to be a big takeaway.”

Biden: Israel, Lebanon agree to ceasefire designed to be permanent end to fightingAmong elites across the ideological spectrum, there's one point of unifying agreement: Americans are bitterly divided. What if that's wrong? What if elites are the ones who are bitterly divided while most Americans are fairly unified? History rarely lines up perfectly with the calendar (the "sixties" didn't really start until the decade was almost over). But politically, the 21st century neatly began in 2000, when the election ended in a tie and the color coding of electoral maps became enshrined as a kind of permanent tribal color war of "red vs. blue." Elite understanding of politics has been stuck in this framework ever since. Politicians and voters have leaned into this alleged political reality, making it seem all the more real in the process. I loathe the phrase "perception is reality," but in politics it has the reifying power of self-fulfilling prophecy. Like rival noble families in medieval Europe, elites have been vying for power and dominance on the arrogant assumption that their subjects share their concern for who rules rather than what the rulers can deliver. In 2018, the group More in Common published a massive report on the "hidden tribes" of American politics. The wealthiest and whitest groups were "devoted conservatives" (6%) and "progressive activists" (8%). These tribes dominate the media, the parties and higher education, and they dictate the competing narratives of red vs. blue, particularly on cable news and social media. Meanwhile, the overwhelming majority of Americans resided in, or were adjacent to, the "exhausted majority." These people, however, "have no narrative," as David Brooks wrote at the time. "They have no coherent philosophic worldview to organize their thinking and compel action." Lacking a narrative might seem like a very postmodern problem, but in a postmodern elite culture, postmodern problems are real problems. It's worth noting that red vs. blue America didn't emerge ex nihilo. The 1990s were a time when the economy and government seemed to be working, at home and abroad. As a result, elites leaned into the narcissism of small differences to gain political and cultural advantage. They remain obsessed with competing, often apocalyptic, narratives. That leaves out most Americans. The gladiatorial combatants of cable news, editorial pages and academia, and their superfan spectators, can afford these fights. Members of the exhausted majority are more interested in mere competence. I think that's the hidden unity elites are missing. This is why we keep throwing incumbent parties out of power: They get elected promising competence but get derailed -- or seduced -- by fan service to, or trolling of, the elites who dominate the national conversation. There's a difference between competence and expertise. One of the most profound political changes in recent years has been the separation of notions of credentialed expertise from real-world competence. This isn't a new theme in American life, but the pandemic and the lurch toward identity politics amplified distrust of experts in unprecedented ways. This is a particular problem for the left because it is far more invested in credentialism than the right. Indeed, some progressives are suddenly realizing they invested too much in the authority of experts and too little in the ability of experts to provide what people want from government, such as affordable housing, decent education and low crime. The New York Times' Ezra Klein says he's tired of defending the authority of government institutions. Rather, "I want them to work." One of the reasons progressives find Trump so offensive is his absolute inability to speak the language of expertise -- which is full of coded elite shibboleths. But Trump veritably shouts the language of competence. I don't mean he is actually competent at governing. But he is effectively blunt about calling leaders, experts and elites -- of both parties -- stupid, ineffective, weak and incompetent. He lost in 2020 because voters didn't believe he was actually good at governing. He won in 2024 because the exhausted majority concluded the Biden administration was bad at it. Nostalgia for the low-inflation pre-pandemic economy was enough to convince voters that Trumpian drama is the tolerable price to pay for a good economy. About 3 out of 4 Americans who experienced "severe hardship" because of inflation voted for Trump. The genius of Trump's most effective ad -- "Kamala is for they/them, President Trump is for you" -- was that it was simultaneously culture-war red meat and an argument that Harris was more concerned about boutique elite concerns than everyday ones. If Trump can actually deliver competent government, he could make the Republican Party the majority party for a generation. For myriad reasons, that's an if so big it's visible from space. But the opportunity is there -- and has been there all along.
