Lakers GM Rob Pelinka will have to exercise a deep understanding of his team’s needs as he decides whether to package all of his best trade chips for a star or instead add a few quality role players. If Pelinka decides to go the superstar route, he’d probably be inclined to get a point guard. LA doesn’t need anyone else besides Anthony Davis operating close to the basket on offense, especially with AD playing like an MVP. And while LeBron James often operates as a lead guard, he could use some relief in that regard as he approaches — and surpasses — 40 years of age in December. On Friday, Fadeaway World’s Fran Leiva was the latest sports journalist urging the Lakers to trade for Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks. “(Young is) the type of scorer who can take over games, something they’re missing outside of LeBron and Davis,” Leiva said. “ A deal like (D’Angelo) Russell, (Jarred) Vanderbilt, (Gabe) Vincent, (Max) Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick could be tempting for the Hawks. It gives them depth, flexibility, and more assets to build around their young core.” “For the Lakers, getting Trae would mean fixing their point guard issues and giving them another go-to option in big moments. It’s the kind of move that could elevate them to legit title contenders.” A former NCAA scoring champion and assist champion in 2018, Young provides alpha energy, but he’s always been too small and defensively challenged to be the best player on an NBA contender. In that sense, perhaps he’s the perfect guy to place alongside AD and LeBron. Will Pelinka go for it? More NBA: Lakers predicted to add $49.5 million two-player package from Nets via trade

A man in Florida has been accused of violently murdering a man at a Florida golf course earlier this week. Junior Boucher, 36, has been charged with first-degree murder after he allegedly killed 65-year-old Brian Hiltebeitel on the first hole at Sandhill Crane Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens on Monday afternoon. Boucher is accused of “viciously” attacking Hiltebeitel with his own golf clubs and then drowning him in a pond, according to WPTV . “Once in the water, Boucher jumped on top of Hiltebritel and appeared to be choking him,” a witness told police, according to TMZ . Boucher then got off of Hiltebritel, who was no longer moving, and retrieved a golf club and struck him repeatedly in the head.” A witness told police that Hiltebritel yelled multiple times that Boucher was “trying to kill me!” As Boucher chased Hiltebritel, they arrived at the pond where Boucher jumped on top of the victim and “appeared to be choking him,” police said. Officers said that when they arrived at the scene Boucher was naked and running away. When he wouldn’t stop, police said they used an “electronic control weapon” to subdue him. Hiltebritel had “deep lacerations to the back of his head” and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The attack appears to have been random. “At this time, it does not appear that Boucher had any legitimate purpose for being at the golf course,” Palm Beach Gardens Police Chief Dominick Pape told reporters on Tuesday. “This appears to be a random act of violence where Boucher used the victim’s golf clubs as weapons and viciously attacked the victim, ultimately killing him.” Boucher was denied bond in court on Tuesday, and ordered to have no contact with witnesses or to hold weapons.Trump names Pam Bondi as his pick for attorney general after Gaetz withdraws from considerationWomen more likely to need walking aids but less likely to use them – study

Women more likely to need walking aids but less likely to use them – studyWomen are more likely to need walking sticks, wheelchairs and other mobility aids compared to men, but they are less likely to use them, according to a study. And single people are more likely to use mobility tools compared to those who are married, according to researchers from University College London (UCL) and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Researchers looked at information from a group of more than 12,000 adults in England aged 50 to 89 who were tracked over a 13-year period. At the start of the study, 8,225 adults had no mobility difficulty and did not use mobility assistive products (MAPs). Some 2,480 were deemed to have “unmet need” and 1,375 were using mobility aids. During the follow-up period, there were 2,313 “transitions” where people went from having no mobility issues to needing some help with getting around. And 1,274 people started to use mobility aids. Compared with men, women were 49% more likely to transition from not needing mobility aids to needing to use them, according to the study which has been published in The Lancet Public Health. But were 21% less likely to go on to use mobility aids when they needed them. The authors said their study showed “barriers to access” for women. For both men and women, with every year that passed during the study period the need for mobility aids increased. People who were older, less educated, less wealthy or reported being disabled were more likely to “transition from no need to unmet need, and from unmet need to use”, the authors said, with this indicating a “higher prevalence of mobility limitations and MAP need overall among these groups”. They added: “Finally, marital or partnership status was not associated with transitioning to unmet need; however, single people were more likely to transition from unmet need to use compared with married or partnered people.” Jamie Danemayer, first author of the study from UCL Computer Science and UCL’s Global Disability Innovation Hub, said: “Our analysis suggests that there is a clear gender gap in access to mobility aids. “Though our data didn’t ascertain the reason why participants weren’t using mobility aids, other research tells us that women are often more likely than men to face obstacles such as cost barriers as a result of well-documented income disparities between genders. “Many mobility aids are designed for men rather than women, which we think may be a factor. “Using mobility aids can also make a disability visible, which can impact the safety and stigma experienced by women, in particular. “There’s a critical need for further research to identify and break down the barriers preventing women from accessing mobility aids that would improve their quality of life.” Professor Cathy Holloway, also from UCL, added: “Not having access to mobility aids when a person needs one can have a big impact on their independence, well-being and quality of life. “Our analysis suggests that women, in particular, regardless of other factors such as education and employment status, are not getting the support that they need.” Professor Shereen Hussein, senior author of the study and lead of the social care group at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, said: “The research provides compelling evidence of gender disparities in accessing assistive technology, suggesting that cost, design bias, and social stigma are likely to disproportionally affect women. “This underscores the need for inclusive, gender-sensitive approaches in the design, production and inclusivity of assistive technologies.”

Trico Bancshares director sells $252,275 in stockSome aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State have accused the party leadership of perpetuating illegality by allegedly imposing Enemona Anyebe, a member disqualified by the court from contesting the chairmanship position during the party’s delegate election held in August this year. Speaking on behalf of the group at a press conference in Lokoja on Saturday, Muhammad Sani Gambo, who was the runner-up in the said Kogi State PDP Congress, stated that the group seeks justice, equity, and fairness. Gambo said, “This press conference has become very necessary towards salvaging our party from imminent collapse and the landmines of illegality and impunity that the purported chairmanship of Hon. Enemona Anyebe is about to cause the PDP. “Let me quickly state that his purporting to be the Chairman of Kogi PDP is not only criminal, but it has also made the PDP a laughing stock among the comity of civilised people in Nigeria. “This must not be allowed to happen because the imminent breakdown of law and order may also be inherent if he is allowed to continue to assume what he is not. “The crude manner jointly masterminded by Hon. Enemona Anyebe and his sponsors to take over, through military style, the leadership of PDP in Kogi State leaves much to be desired. “This is even more worrisome as Kogites, Nigerians, and the world look up to the PDP at this moment to salvage Nigeria from the precipice of outright destruction. Unfortunately, it is surprising that these haters of democracy are trying to undermine the will of the PDP members in Kogi State.” Gambo stressed the importance of fairness, justice, and equity in the conduct and activities of the PDP, particularly as an opposition political party. He stated, *”We are a country and people guided by the rule of law, and the time to call a spade a spade, no matter whose ox is gored, is now in Kogi State.” He recalled that the last PDP State Congress in Kogi was free and fair, with the outcome accepted by all contestants except for the position of State Chairman. A court order had barred Anyebe from contesting or presenting himself for screening. Gambo added that the party had been directed not to screen Anyebe, as the court ruling was yet to be vacated before the Congress, and it remains so to date. Gambo noted that Anyebe, who was previously suspended by the party’s local government executives in 2019, affirmed by the state executives, and again by his ward executives in 2024 for anti-party activities, now presides over the affairs of the party in the state. He questioned how Anyebe could have become the state’s party chairman when his nomination form was withdrawn by court order under Suit No. HC/OKP/54M/2024 of the Kogi State High Court. He added, “We are also aware that Hon. Enemona approached a Kogi State High Court with prayers to vacate the court order via Motion Nos. HCL/372M/2024 and HCL/379M/2024 respectively, but his appeals were dismissed.” When contacted, Enemona Anyebe, the accused person, promised to respond to the correspondent but stated that he was currently in transit.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A person accused of accosting U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace in a Capitol Office building pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to a misdemeanor assault charge. Witnesses told police that James McIntyre, 33, of Chicago, shook Mace's hand in an “exaggerated, aggressive” manner after approaching the South Carolina Republican in the Rayburn House Office Building on Tuesday evening, according to a police affidavit. Mace, who is identified only by her initials in a court filing, posted a string of social media messages about the incident. She said she was “physically accosted” at the Capitol, and she thanked President-elect Donald Trump for calling her Wednesday morning to check on her condition. “I’m going to be fine just as soon as the pain and soreness subside,” Mace wrote. Mace declined to be treated by a paramedic after her encounter with McIntyre, who was arrested Tuesday by the Capitol Police, the affidavit says. Mace told police that McIntyre said, “Trans youth serve advocacy,” while shaking her hand. Last month, Mace proposed a resolution that would prohibit any lawmakers and House employees from “using single-sex facilities other than those corresponding to their biological sex.” Mace said the bill is aimed specifically at Delaware Democrat Sarah McBride — the first transgender person to be elected to Congress. A magistrate judge ordered McIntyre’s release after an arraignment in Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Efforts to reach an attorney for McIntyre weren't immediately successful.Tweet Facebook Mail One-in-10 drivers who were pulled over for a random drug test in New South Wales tested positive in the last 12 months, according to a new report by the NRMA. The "Driving High" report calls on the state government to increase roadside drug testing to 200,000 tests a year - up from 160,000 in 2023. The report also found that drug driving is now the second-leading cause of road deaths in NSW, above fatigue, drink driving, and not using seatbelts. West Ham produced a clinical away performance to beat resurgent Newcastle 2-0 on Monday (November 26, 2024), easing the pressure on beleaguered manager Julen Lopetegui. Tomas Soucek headed the visitors in front against the run of play at St James' Park and Aaron Wan-Bissaka grabbed a rare goal in the second half to double the Hammers' lead. Newcastle were unable to capitalise on the chances they created, failing to build on the momentum created by recent wins against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest. The result, only West Ham's second win on the road this season, lifts them to 15 points, just three behind 10th-placed Newcastle, who missed out on the chance to move into the top six. Relief It will be a huge relief for Lopetegui, whose future has been a matter of mounting speculation just months after he replaced David Moyes. "We are happy, above all because we achieved the three points, which is one important thing, but above all because I think that we played well," the Spaniard told Sky Sports . "We are happy, but tomorrow we are working hard, looking forward to the next challenge (against Arsenal). To think about the long future doesn't help, ever." The home side made the early running and in-form forward Alexander Isak had the ball in the net in the fifth minute after a delicate dink over Lukasz Fabianski, only for it to be ruled out for offside. West Ham, expected to face a tough test on Newcastle's home turf, showed little adventure in the opening stages. But their first real foray up the pitch resulted in a corner and the unmarked Soucek powered home a header from Emerson Palmieri's set-piece in the 10th minute. Newcastle, on a three-match winning run in all competitions, enjoyed the bulk of the possession as a lively first half unfolded but West Ham were robust in defence and were a constant threat on the counter. Anthony Gordon had a glorious chance to level after a poor clearance from Jean-Clair Todibo but fired straight at Fabianski. Minutes later Isak chested down a superb cross from Bruno Guimaraes but steered narrowly wide on the stretch. Eddie Howe's Newcastle were again on the front foot at the start of the second half but it was West Ham who doubled their lead through Wan-Bissaka. The former Manchester United man scored his first goal for West Ham and just his third career goal after picking up Jarrod Bowen's pass and firing across goalkeeper Nick Pope and into the net in the 53rd minute. Howe brought on Jacob Murphy and Callum Wilson in a bid to turn the tide but Newcastle failed to build up a head of steam against their determined opponents, who saw out the game with relative ease. "The first 60 minutes, albeit we're losing the game 2-0, I think there was a lot of good play from us, we did open them up and had chances to score," said Howe. "Unfortunately goals will always change the perception of everybody but up until that point I was pretty pleased. The last half an hour I didn't like us at all. I thought we lost our way a little bit, became a bit too desperate to score." Published - November 27, 2024 04:00 am IST Copy link Email Facebook Twitter Telegram LinkedIn WhatsApp Reddit Football

I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here ! campmate Dean McCullough was delighted with the results of his hair transplant prior to heading down under. The BBC Radio 1 DJ, 32, planned his major glow-up back in April when he underwent a hair transplant at the Ksl Clinics' Manchester branch. The ITV fan favourite documented the lengthy procedure on TikTok and revealed his post-op swollen face. "I didn't realise when you got a hair transplant you got new cheek bones as well," he said, as he laughed in the video. Dean even described himself as "Shrek's wee cousin". He added: "You can nearly balance a plant pot on them cheek bones." Two weeks later, the DJ revealed he was now able to wash his hair and took to social media to flaunt his new hairline and curly locks. Dean ensured he would be jungle-ready as he followed a rigorous aftercare plan set by the clinic. Back in July, the I'm a Celeb star documented his PRP treatment. Dean captioned the post: "Come with me to get PRP after my hair transplant @ksl_clinics. I had a FUE hair transplant 3 months ago and I'm buzzing with the results so far." PRP, which stands for platelet-rich plasma, is a blood-based treatment that utilises injections to accelerate the healing of specific areas of the body. PRP can be used for a variety of conditions, from sports injuries to hair loss. In September, Dean shared a final transformation video. He said: "5 months post hair transplant and I can't believe these results. I've been following my aftercare plan, taking biotin, using 100% natural hair oils & having PRP to give my transplant the best chance of success. I wasn't expecting this growth until around Jan/Feb time." Apart from showing off his new hairline, the star has been causing quite the rumble in the jungle lately. The DJ has been nominated more than any other campmate by the public to compete in the Bushtucker Trials. Unfortunately, Dean has won minimal stars and left his campmates to endure bland rice and beans. However, on last night's episode, Dean was joined by fellow campmate and McFly star Danny Jones for the trial. The pair bagged eight stars during 'High Street Of Horrors', the latest Bushtucker Trial. The ITV show pleased viewers with more twists, as the radio DJ was asked to join TV personality Maura Higgins and writer Reverend Richard Coles in the luxurious Jungle Junkyard.

Billy SteeleMINNEAPOLIS (AP) — With Penn State’s strong push for a spot in the College Football Playoff still a couple of wins from completion, the biggest roadblock to a bid for the Nittany Lions in this favorable final third of their schedule has appeared with a trip to Minnesota . That’s why this week, naturally, is too early for them to talk about making the inaugural 12-team tournament — as enticing as their prospects might be. “I think the quality of teams that we go in and play each week speaks for itself,” quarterback Drew Allar said. “But as far as rankings, it doesn’t really matter until it matters.” Penn State (9-1, 6-1 Big Ten) is fourth in both the AP poll and the CFP rankings this week, needing help for a long-shot hope of reaching the Big Ten title game because of a loss to now-No. 2 Ohio State on Nov. 2. In this new era of playoff expansion, the Nittany Lions are on firm footing for an at-large bid. Lose to the unranked Gophers (6-4, 4-3), however, and that ground could become shaky given the current collection of standout two-loss teams in the SEC. In case the Nittany Lions needed proof of the danger of letting focus diverge, coach James Franklin and his staff can call up the tape from Nov. 9, 2019. That’s when an undefeated Penn State team came to Minnesota and lost 31-26 . The Nittany Lions lost again at Ohio State two weeks later and finished 11-2, one of several not-quite performances for this storied program that last went unbeaten in 1994 and hasn’t been recognized as national champions since 1986. The Gophers were undefeated themselves after that game before losses to rivals Iowa and Wisconsin ended their Rose Bowl quest. This team isn’t on that level of talent and success from five years ago, but the chemistry has been off the charts. Coach P.J. Fleck drew attention to some of the individual standout performances that fueled the signature victory in 2019 in meetings with players this week. “We need our best playmakers to play their best. Penn State’s going to need their playmakers to be their best. That’s what happens in November,” Fleck said. Tyler Warren has already shattered nearly every record for Penn State tight ends. The do-it-all senior become such a force his teammates insist he’s worthy of the Heisman Trophy, tracking toward the top of the NFL draft board for his position next spring. “He’s the best tight end in America, but he’s also the most complete tight end in America,” Allar said. Warren is coming off a 190-yard performance at Purdue that included 63 yards on three rushes and 127 yards on eight receptions. “He has the ability to take a play that should be 2 or 3 yards and turn it into 30 or 40,” Gophers defensive end Danny Striggow said. Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter has 171⁄2 tackles for loss, the second-most in the FBS, and eight sacks to match the third-most in the Big Ten. He has a challenging matchup this week with Minnesota left tackle Aireontae Ersery across from him in a battle of projected first-round NFL draft picks. Gophers coaches told Striggow and his fellow defensive linemen a couple of seasons ago to relish the opportunity to face Ersery in practice. “That’s one of the best looks in the country that you’re going to get,” Striggow said. Carter has successfully made the transition from linebacker this season. “He is impacting the game in a number of ways, which creates opportunities for other guys on our defensive line and within our defense and causes a lot of headaches,” Franklin said. “He is becoming more and more of a leader every single day.” Allar and the Nittany Lions have paid particular attention to protecting the ball this week, given the Gophers have 16 interceptions, one short of the national lead. Penn State quarterback Drew Allar feels he’ll need to be especially accurate this weekend considering Minnesota has 16 interceptions on the season. “We’re just going to have to be disciplined and stick to our game plan,” Allar said. The Gophers have a strong group of departing players who will take the field at Huntington Bank Stadium for the final time, including Ersery, quarterback Max Brosmer, wide receiver Daniel Jackson, right guard Quinn Carroll, cornerback Justin Walley, kicker Dragan Kesich and Striggow. “It’s been good to reflect, but it’s not over yet,” Striggow said. “Those short windows of reflection, I cut ’em out and then say, ‘We’ve got some more memories to make.’”
