ONGC MUMBAI: Markets regulator Sebi has decided to expand the list of stocks for the optional T+0 mode of trading & settlement to include 500 more from Jan 31. Currently, the T+0 settlement cycle is offered for 25 select stocks that include SBI, ONGC and Bajaj Auto. The mechanism was started in March this year. A Sebi circular said that as a first step, top 500 stocks will be selected according to market capitalisation on Dec 31. In the first phase, the T+0 settlement will be available in the last 100 stocks of the 500 selected. In each month thereafter, the next bottom 100 stocks will be added to the list, it said. The process would start on Jan 31, 2025. Under the T+0 (same day) settlement system, investors will get their stocks and funds at the end of the day they put in their trades. India is the first country to move into such a stock trading process . Globally, and in India too, the more prevalent mode of settlement is the T+1 process. Under the T+1 settlement system, buyers and sellers of stocks get them in their demat accounts and the money in their bank accounts a day after the day of trade. On Tuesday, Sebi said that all brokers would be allowed to offer the T+0 settlement system to their clients. From May 2025, even custodians, who serve large investors including institutional ones, would join the system and block trades would be offered under this process too. Sebi has asked qualified stock brokers with a minimum number of active clients as of Dec 31, 2024 to put in place systems so that their clients can participate in the T+0 settlement cycle. New QSBs will get three months to put in systems compliant with the T+0 process, it said. The regulator has also asked stock exchanges, clearing corporations, depositories and custodians to work on systems so that institutional investors can participate in this shorter mode of settlement. Earlier, Sebi had said that once the T+0 mode of settlement is fully implemented, it would move to an instant settlement mode.
NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stock indexes are drifting lower Tuesday in the runup to the highlight of the week for the market, the latest update on inflation that’s coming on Wednesday. The S&P 500 dipped by 0.2% in late trading, a day after pulling back from its latest all-time high . The index is on track for its first back-to-back losses in more than three weeks, as momentum slows following a big rally that has it on track for one of its best years of the millennium . The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down by 7 points, or less than 0.1%, with roughly an hour remaining in trading, and the Nasdaq composite fell 0.3%. Tech titan Oracle dragged on the market and sank 7.8% after reporting growth for the latest quarter that fell just short of analysts’ expectations. It was one of the heaviest weights on the S&P 500, even though CEO Safra Catz said the company saw record demand related to artificial-intelligence technology for its cloud infrastructure business, which trains generative AI models. AI has been a big source of growth that’s helped many companies’ stock prices skyrocket. Oracle’s stock had already leaped nearly 81% for the year coming into Tuesday, which raised the bar of expectations for its profit report. C3.ai fell 2.1% despite reporting a smaller loss for the latest quarter than analysts expected. The AI software company increased its forecast for how big a loss it expects to take this fiscal year from its operations. In the bond market, Treasury yields ticked higher ahead of Wednesday’s report on the inflation that U.S. consumers are feeling. Economists expect it to show roughly similar increases as the month before. That and a report on Thursday about inflation at the wholesale level will be the final big pieces of data the Federal Reserve will get before its meeting next week, where many investors expect the year’s third cut to interest rates . The Fed has been easing its main interest rate from a two-decade high since September to lift the slowing jobs market, after bringing inflation nearly down to its 2% target. Lower rates would help give support to the economy, but they could also provide more fuel for inflation. The yield on the 10-year Treasury rose to 4.22% from 4.20% late Monday. Even though the Fed has been cutting its main interest rate, mortgage rates have been more stubborn and have been volatile since the autumn. That has hampered the housing industry, and homebuilder Toll Brothers’ stock fell 5.2% even though it beat analysts’ expectations for profit and revenue in the latest quarter. CEO Douglas Yearley Jr. said the luxury builder has been seeing strong demand since the start of its fiscal year six weeks ago, an encouraging signal as it approaches the beginning of the spring selling season in mid-January Elsewhere on Wall Street, Alaska Air Group soared 13.6% after raising its forecast for profit in the current quarter. The airline said demand for flying around the holidays has been stronger than expected. It also approved a plan to buy back up to $1 billion of its stock, along with new service from Seattle to Tokyo and Seoul . Boeing climbed 5.2% after saying it's resuming production of its bestselling plane , the 737 Max, for the first time since 33,000 workers began a seven-week strike that ended in early November. Vail Resorts rose 2.7% after the ski resort operator reported a narrower first-quarter loss than expected in what is traditionally its worst quarter. In stock markets abroad, indexes were mixed in China after the world’s second-largest economy said its exports rose by less than expected in November. Stocks rose 0.6% in Shanghai but fell 0.5% in Hong Kong. AP Business Writers Matt Ott and Elaine Kurtenbach contributed.

The Ravens looked better defensively last week, but now Roquan Smith's injury is a concern
Foreign Office minister Hamish Falconer was repeatedly urged by MPs to give a definitive answer on the UK’s likely action after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued a warrant for the Israeli prime minister and his former defence minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes in Gaza. Mr Falconer said there is a domestic legal process to be followed through the courts that “determines whether or not to endorse an arrest warrant” by the ICC, adding this has “never been tested” as the UK has yet to be visited by an ICC indictee. Shadow foreign secretary Dame Priti Patel claimed the “only beneficiaries” of the ICC’s decision are “Hamas and their terrorist sponsors Iran” and said the Conservatives believe the warrants have “no basis in international law”. In reply to Labour MP Sarah Owen (Luton North), Mr Falconer told the Commons: “I’d like to just be clear that what I have said this afternoon is not that the Government will uphold arrest warrants. “What I have been clear about this afternoon is that due process will be followed. These are questions for independent courts in the UK, and it is independent courts that would review the arrest warrants if that situation were to arise.” Responding to an urgent question on the ICC’s decision, Mr Falconer earlier said: “In line with this Government’s stated commitment to the rule of law, we respect the independence of the ICC. We will comply with our international obligations. “There is a domestic legal process through our independent courts that determines whether or not to endorse an arrest warrant by the ICC, in accordance with the ICC Act of 2001. “This process has never been tested because the UK has never been visited by an ICC indictee. If there were to be such a visit to the UK, there would be a court process and due process would be followed in relation to those issues. “There is no moral equivalence between Israel, a democracy, and Hamas and Lebanese Hezbollah, two terrorist organisations. This Government has been clear, Israel has a right to defend itself in accordance with international law, that right is not under question, and the court’s approval of the warrants last week do not change that.” For the Conservatives, Dame Priti said: “In charging Israeli leaders alongside Hamas, the ICC appears to be drawing a moral equivalence between Israel’s war of self-defence and Hamas terrorism. We utterly reject any moral equivalence. “The only beneficiaries of this decision are Hamas and their terrorist sponsors Iran, who are now celebrating this propaganda coup as a great victory for Hamas and Hezbollah. Since the ICC decision, we have had dither from ministers and confused messaging and no clarity. So I’m grateful to the minister today for his remarks. “And as to the issue of warrants, we have raised serious concerns over process, jurisdiction and the position on complementarity principle, and believe the warrants of Mr Netanyahu and Gallant have no basis in international law.” Conservative MP Sir Bernard Jenkin (Harwich and North Essex) asked: “Can we be absolutely clear about what the Government is saying, because it seems that the Government is not saying there would be an automatic arrest should Benjamin Netanyahu arrive in this country but that there would be due process? “And could he confirm that customarily international law does not permit the arrest or the delivering of the serving prime minister of a non-state party to the ICC? “So he’s committing to due process but he’s not committing to arrest. Am I correct in understanding that?” Mr Falconer replied: “There’s domestic legal process through our independent courts, we cannot prejudge that process. “I note that the shadow attorney general has written to the Attorney General on questions of detail in relation to some of the points you allude to and the Attorney General tells me he’ll be writing back on those more detailed points.” Labour MP Abtisam Mohamed (Sheffield Central) asked the minister to “review all diplomatic, economic and political relations with Israel” to ensure the UK is “not complicit with the atrocities taking place in Gaza, the West Bank and in Lebanon”. Independent MP Iqbal Mohamed (Dewsbury and Batley) said: “The ICC arrest warrants are welcome but in themselves will not bring an end to Israeli war crimes and ethnic cleansing and the killing of innocent men, women and children.” Several MPs, including Labour’s Melanie Ward (Cowdenbeath and Kirkcaldy), also repeated calls for the Government to sanction Israeli finance minister Bezalel Smotrich and national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. Mr Falconer told MPs: “I recognise the two that I’ve been pressed on the most this afternoon are of intense political interest. But despite their intense political interest, were we to prejudge sanctions and trail them in this House before we made them, we would reduce their impact. “The same is true of the hundreds of sanctions that we have done on Russia over the years and the same in every forum.”
Towns was extremely effective against the Rockets (Image via Getty) Karl-Anthony Towns ’s partner Jordyn Woods found herself at the premiere of Disney’s “Mufasa: The Lion King”. However, she could not keep her mind off Towns as he had an important match against the Rockets on the same day. While KAT and Jordyn Woods know how to display their love and affection for each other on social media, their lifestyles don’t fail to impress their fans in the slightest even when they are not in the presence of each other. The premiere of Disney’s new movie Mufasa: The Lion King took place at Hollywood’s Dolby Theater on Monday, December 9, 2024. Karl-Anthony was busy trying to beat the Toronto Raptors while his beloved partner stunned the crowd at the Mufasa premiere. She wore a golden-brown sequined dress paired with matching heels. However, the main eye-catcher was her faux fur coat. This showed how well Jordyn knows to dress herself. People who have good taste in fashion have conquered a very important aspect of everyday life. We are not the only ones who admired Jordyn Wood’s outfit for the movie premiere. NBA star Julius Randle’s wife Kendra Randle was also mesmerized by Jordyn’s look. This was evident from her comment that she left on Wood’s Instagram post: “Wow 🔥.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by HEIR JORDYN (@jordynwoods) Remember how we spoke about the love and affection that Jordyn and KAT have for each other? Well, even though she was away from the court, Jordyn could not keep her mind off KAT’s match against the Toronto Rockets. She shared what was on her mind with her Instagram fans saying: “When you have a premiere, but ball is life 😭🪛." This post shows just how much Jordyn loves and cares for Towns. Karl-Anthony Towns was playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves and he did not disappoint anybody rooting for the Timbs. He earned the “beast mode” praise from people who were watching the match at Scotiabank Arena. While Towns was locked in on the game on the court, Jordyn was supporting her lover through her phone. Fans of this couple have always admired the love they have for one another and this particular incident of Jordyn publicly displaying her feelings for Towns did not go in vain. People were moved by Jordyn’s gesture and there was even an online poll titled: “Is Jordyn Woods' courtside dedication more impressive than Karl-Anthony Towns' clutch performance?” People voted in her favor mostly with some saying that both Woods and Towns are “equally impressive”. They said: "Yes, her support is unmatched" and "Both are equally impressive" . Karl-Anthony was fabulous on court against the Rockets and there was nothing more important for Jordyn at that moment.
