The holidays are meant to be the most wonderful time of the year, filled with joy, laugher, celebration and family gatherings. Yet, for many people, the holidays can be a stressful time. They experience loneliness, anxiety, depression, sadness, fatigue financial worries and overwhelm. That is the reason these feeling are known as the holiday blues. Holiday blues is all about people’s expectations falling short. It helps to remember that it is quite normal to experience a little frustration or stress during this very demanding and busy time of the year. The good news is that there are several practical strategies that help us manage the holidays with more ease and shift our mindset to a positive one. This way, we will be able to transform the holiday stress into a time of gratitude and genuine joy, making this holiday season a truly meaningful time. Here are seven tips that can help one maintain a perspective about what is really important and to be more in charge of their emotions during this time. 1. Recognize and accept your feelings. Allow yourself to admit that you feel sadness, grief, loneliness, especially if you have experienced a separation, divorce, or the loss of a loved one. Feel your feelings and avoid forcing yourself to be in a festive mood. 2.Plan ahead and set priorities to avoid stress. Develop a schedule of specific days of shopping, baking, delivering gifts and social and family gatherings. Do not cram more things in your days, that you can reasonably accomplish. Shop early to avoid crowds. Create a budget to help you avoid financial worries after the holidays. 3. Set boundaries. Set clear boundaries in a compassionate way, with family and friends. Prioritize your physical and mental health and be willing to say no to certain obligations that you know they will drain your energy and leave you exhausted and stressed. 3. Practice self-care. Have a special self-care daily routine that includes nourishing meals, some exercise or a daily walk, getting enough sleep and doing something that gives you pleasure and enjoyment, like listening to music, seeing your favorite film, or reading a book. You must nurture yourself to maintain an emotional balance and be able to do the things on your list. 4. Maintain a positive outlook. Avoid deep family discussions and negative people who are critical, or tend to complain. If that’s not possible, try to shift the conversation to a light subject, or leave the room. 5. Be mindful with the food you eat and the amount of alcohol you drink. Enjoy food without feeling uncomfortable and drink in moderation. You want to avoid regrets the next day and feeling guilty. Remind yourself that balance is key to enjoying holiday meals. 6. Surround yourself with community. Loneliness is often a source of holiday blues, especially if you’re far from loved ones. If you are alone, plan early, to be with other people. They don’t have to be relatives. One can have meaningful connections with people that they may barely know, because of a shared human experience. 7. Gratitude. Reflect on the deeper meaning of the holiday season. Focus on each moment and appreciate every moment of joy, no matter how small it seems. Write in a gratitude journal all the things that you have in your life that you are grateful for. Giving to those less fortunate, creates a feeling of joy and gratitude. If you or someone you know needs some emotional support, you may talk to a professional counselor, a life coach or a hypnotherapist, to help you navigate this time of the year. Coaching and hypnosis help people reframe negative thought patterns, manage stress and grief and foster a greater sense of calm, well-being and inner peace. It reduces anxiety, improves quality of sleep, boosts confidence and resilience and promotes healthy habits, for the holiday season and all year long. Let’s approach the holidays as a time for deeper understanding of ourselves and each other, a time of forgiveness, compassion, love, hope and acceptance. The true meaning of the holidays is not in material things and a lot of presents. It is found in the heart . Happy holidays to each and everyone of you!Storm Bert Live: Transport chaos expected amid treacherous conditions as Scots warned not to travelTwo probe committees have been formed to investigate the death of three students of the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) in electrocution when their picnic bus came into contact with a high-voltage electric line in Sreepur, Gazipur on Saturday morning. A melee broke out at midfield of Ohio Stadium after Michigan upset No. 2 Ohio State 13-10 on Saturday. After the Wolverines' fourth straight win in the series, players converged at the block "O" to plant its flag. The Ohio State players were in the south end zone singing their alma mater in front of the student section. When the Buckeyes saw the Wolverines' flag, they rushed toward the 50-yard line. Social media posts showed Michigan offensive lineman Raheem Anderson carrying the flag on a long pole to midfield, where the Wolverines were met by dozens of Ohio State players and fights broke out. Buckeyes defensive end Jack Sawyer was seen ripping the flag off the pole and taking the flag as he scuffled with several people trying to recover the flag. A statement from the Ohio State Police Department read: "Following the game, officers from multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in breaking up an on-field altercation. During the scuffle, multiple officers representing Ohio and Michigan deployed pepper spray. OSUPD is the lead agency for games and will continue to investigate." Michigan running back Kalel Mullings on FOX said: "For such a great game, you hate to see stuff like that after the game. It's bad for the sport, bad for college football. At the end of the day, some people got to learn how to lose, man. "You can't be fighting and stuff just because you lost the game. We had 60 minutes and four quarters to do all that fighting. Now people want to talk and fight. That's wrong. It's bad for the game. Classless, in my opinion. People got to be better." Once order was restored, officers cordoned the 50-yard line, using bicycles as barriers. Ohio State coach Ryan Day in his postgame press conference said he wasn't sure what happened. "I don't know all the details of it. But I know that these guys are looking to put a flag on our field and our guys weren't going to let that happen," he said. "I'll find out exactly what happened, but this is our field and certainly we're embarrassed at the fact we lost the game, but there's some prideful guys on our team that weren't just going to let that happen." The Big Ten has not yet released a statement on the incident. --Field Level Media

There are many ways to buy into the artificial intelligence (AI) frenzy. Many investors look to AI hardware designer Nvidia , making the former video gaming accelerator maven one of the most valuable companies in the world. Nvidia is a great company, but the stock may have soared too high, too fast. There are more reasonable AI ideas out there right now. Let me tell you why IBM ( IBM 0.26% ) , Micron Technology ( MU -0.12% ) , and Fiverr International ( FVRR 0.88% ) strike me as stronger AI investments in the fall of 2024. A weird herd of AI experts This trio may not be the most obvious AI investments on the market. But they have deep connections to the surging generative AI market, just from slightly unusual angles: IBM lets other companies focus on consumer-friendly AI tools and services while it doubles down on enterprise-class variants instead. Features like auditable data flows and integration with business intelligence tools don't write headlines, but they do inspire long-term service contracts with deep-pocketed corporations. As a result, Big Blue's generative AI platform already has $3 billion of service contracts , less than two years after its launch. Micron doesn't make AI accelerators. It designs and manufactures high-speed memory chips instead. The massive systems that train and then operate generative AI platforms require enormous amounts of memory, and so do the next-generation smartphones that launch with their own AI features. Micron's chips are in high demand thanks to these AI-based connections. Fiverr isn't working on the infrastructure side of the AI boom, but it takes advantage of generative AI in two distinct ways. The company's platform for matching freelancers with freelance service buyers makes heavy use of various AI technologies. The company also sells AI-related freelance services to a wide range of clients -- those AI systems won't build or run themselves, and it takes a human touch to squeeze business value out of generative AI tools. AI-related services have become a key growth driver for Fiverr . AI Stock 2-Year Total Return Price to Free Cash Flow Forward Price to Earnings Nvidia 848% 76.5 33.9 IBM 58% 15.8 20.0 Micron 70% 901.4 7.7 Fiverr (18%) 13.9 11.6 Data collected from YCharts and Finviz on Nov. 21, 2024. Bargain-bin valuations Nvidia has been crushing the rest of the stock market since key client OpenAI introduced ChatGPT almost exactly two years ago. That's great for longtime Nvidia owners, but the galloping gains left the stock hanging at uncomfortably high valuation ratios. No matter how you slice it, Nvidia stock is priced for perfection. The chart may still point upward from here, but there's a real risk of painful price corrections if Nvidia doesn't hold on to its early lead in AI accelerators. By contrast, IBM's AI-driven uptrend has only just begun. Fiverr's stock is actually down in the ChatGPT era, as bearish investors see generative AI as a threat to the company's freelancers. Some day soon, I expect Wall Street to start seeing these bargains for what they are. Fiverr and IBM are quietly building massive revenue streams in the AI space. Their stocks should eventually follow suit. Micron's unique profit trend Micron seems to stick out like a sore thumb in the valuation table above. How can I call the stock "cheap" when it trades at 900 times free cash flows and 146 times trailing earnings? The trick is to look forward instead of backward. The memory chip market endured a deep downturn when the ChatGPT boom kicked off. Micron's sales growth is back on track and its cash profits recently swung back into positive territory after a deep dip in red ink: MU Revenue (TTM) data by YCharts Micron's nosebleed-inducing valuation ratios are based on profits just above the breakeven line, but the future trend will change the math. "We are entering fiscal 2025 with the strongest competitive positioning in Micron's history," CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said in October's fourth-quarter earnings call . "We look forward to delivering a substantial revenue record with significantly improved profitability in fiscal 2025." As a result, Micron's forward-looking valuation is an absolute bargain. The company saw bottom-line earnings of $1.30 per share in fiscal year 2024. Your average analyst expects full-year earnings of roughly $8.93 per share in the just-started fiscal 2025, expanding to $12.86 per share in 2026. So if you focus on the forward price-to-earnings ratio , Micron stands out as an incredible value right now.MANCHESTER CITY chiefs are tracking little-known Sierra Leone defender Juma Bah. Etihad scouts are keeping tabs on the teenage centre-back, who plays for Spanish side Real Valladolid — and could make a move in the January window. Bah, 18, has made a big impression during his debut LaLiga season after being signed on loan from AIK Freetong back home. Newcastle are also believed to be interested in the 6ft 5in youngster, with Everton and Crystal Palace watching him too. The giant defender has appeared seven times for Valladolid this campaign. He began his youth career with AIK Freetong in 2021, before starring on loan at Sierra Leone National Premier League side Freetonians SLIFA. FOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALS Bah joined Valladolid this summer, and was originally expected to play for their B side. However, he has since been fast-tracked into the first team and has already seen plenty of action, despite his tender years. When he made his debut against Real Sociedad in a 0-0 home draw - Bah made history. He became the first Sierra Leone-born player to play in the Spanish top tier. Man City could be busy when the January transfer window opens. Boss Pep Guardiola will be keen to address his club's recent slump, which saw his team go six games without a win in all competitions. They have also been linked with a move to bolster their midfield. As SunSport told you, the Premier League champions are planning a £50.3 million January swoop for Martin Zubimendi. The release clause in Zubimendi’s contract would not be a problem, although manager Guardiola was initially not keen on making any major moves in the January market. City’s injury pile-up and dismal form could signal a rethink, as Guardiola is equally reluctant to pile too much pressure on his younger players.

BOSTON – Before media approached Julius Randle following Timberwolves practice Saturday, Randle shouted out an icebreaker, sensing the line of questioning that was to come. “I didn’t pass him the ... ball,” Randle said in a joking manner. “What else you got to ask?” Randle was referencing the moment that has marked the current nadir of this 8-7 season. It was a sequence that came in the fourth quarter of their 110-105 loss in Toronto on Thursday , when Randle didn’t throw Rudy Gobert the ball in the post after Gobert had posted up Scottie Barnes. Gobert, upset Randle didn’t throw him the ball, took his time getting out of the lane and drew a three-second violation as a result. The next trip down the floor, Gobert committed a silly foul on Barnes, Anthony Edwards started yelling at Gobert and Toronto took control of a close game as the Wolves lost control of their emotions. This prompted a frank discussion among the team after the game, and those discussions carried into the pre-practice talks Saturday. “I feel like we had a great practice. We had a great couple discussions,” Randle said, laughing. “I feel like today we came out with an attention to detail, the right mindset, and I think we’re gonna come out and perform great [Sunday].” Both Randle and Gobert addressed what happened in their interviews Saturday, with Gobert taking responsibility and apologizing for escalating his frustration. It’s not the first time that has happened with Gobert in his Wolves tenure. On the last day of the regular season in 2023, Gobert took a swing at Kyle Anderson during a timeout, and the team suspended him for its subsequent play-in game against the Lakers. Gobert and Anderson were fine moving forward. ”Like I told the guys, as someone who really is big on leading by example, my reaction was a bad example,” Gobert said. “I let my emotions, my frustration get the best of me and that’s not who I am. I was sorry for that. I know these guys know me, know who I am, they know everything I do is for my teammates, everything I do is to win, so when I have one of those moments, we know that it’s just a moment.” For his part, Randle said there was no “beef” between him and Gobert. “Rudy’s been great. I’ve had no problem with Rudy,” Randle said. “He’s been great communicating. I feel like Rudy is a great teammate and he brings a lot to our team and we need Rudy. I’ve been to Rudy’s house, there is no beef or any animosity. It’s basketball. Things happen. “Name a perfect family. I have never seen one. There’s always gonna be something. Things happen. You move forward with it. Me and Rudy are great. I’ve got no issue with him.” Edwards, who didn’t speak to the media Saturday, played a big part in the discussion after Thursday’s game, with Randle saying Edwards isn’t afraid to “speak his mind.” But he has the weight to do that because he is a positive presence in so many other moments. “He’s super unselfish and he lifts everybody up,” Randle said. “He really genuinely wants the best for everybody. You notice like after I hit the game-winning shot [against Phoenix], he was the first person to run up to me. When you lead with that type of pure heartedness, you have that right to be honest and call guys out, hold people accountable because you’re backing it up with your actions.” Coach Chris Finch said the team needed to regain its “spirit,” and Saturday’s was a good start at doing that. He said he has noticed multiple players on the team, not just Gobert, letting their individual performances affect their overall attitude. “I don’t think it’s a selfish thing in that regard,” Finch said. “... I think it’s more they’ve been a little disappointed and had a hard time hiding their emotions, and there’s a maturity and a toughness that comes with that.” He then added: “Mistakes are going to be made, people are going to miss you, coverages are going to be blown, shots are not going to go in, decisions might be right, might be wrong, it’s the reaction to all that stuff that you can control and we have to be better at.” Gobert was the most glaring example of that Thursday. He and Randle expressed confidence they will be able to move on from what happened, that this sort of thing pops up in the course of a long season. They’ll have a chance to move on from it Sunday against the defending champion Celtics. “People think great teams are the teams where the sky is always blue, everything is pretty and everyone is happy all the time,” Gobert said. “No, great teams, they know each other, care about one another and when somebody makes a mistake, mistakes happen, but when somebody drifts out a little bit, we talk and we get back on track.” Wolves at Celtics 2:30 p.m. Sunday, FanDuel Sports Network, iHeart app. Wolves update: Mike Conley is listed as out for the second game in a row after also sitting out Thursday’s game because of a left great toe sprain. Nickeil Alexander-Walker has started in his place twice this season when he has sat. Naz Reid, who appeared to get hurt late in Thursday’s game against Toronto, was not listed on the injury report. The Wolves will be seeking their first victory in Boston since 2005. That road losing streak is topped only by their streak in Toronto, which extends to 2004. Celtics update: Defending NBA champion Boston has made waves across the league this season for averaging 50.2 three-point attempts per game. The Celtics are hitting 37% of those and have the third-best offensive efficiency in the league. Jayson Tatum is averaging 29.1 points, 8.2 rebounds and a career high 6.1 assists per game. Derrick White is averaging a career-high 18.4 points per game while shooting 40% from three-point range.ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) celebrated its 57th Youm-e-Tasees at a ceremony held at the PPP Central Secretariat here on Saturday. Knicks vs. Pelicans Injury Report Today – December 1Tweet Facebook Mail The consumer watchdog is urging Australians to shop around for better deals for their power, after it found electricity price falls weren't being passed on to households. More than 80 per cent of households in the National Electricity Network could move to a cheaper plan if they shopped around or even just contacted their provider, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's latest electricity inquiry report found. Despite retail electricity prices falling from August 2023 to August 2024, many households remain on plans above the government safety net price - the price consumers are charged if they have never shopped around for another price. LIVE UPDATES: Aussies bowled out as India set record chase for victory People are being urged to shop around to reduce their electricity prices. (iStock) "If you haven't changed electricity plans in the past 12 months, chances are you are paying more for your electricity than you need to," ACCC Commissioner Anna Brakey said. The report found that households with offers which are more than a year old are paying $238 more per year than households on newer offers. "We are urging Australians to take some time this holiday period to have a look on the Energy Made Easy or Victoria Energy Compare websites to see if there is a better plan," Brakey said. "Alternatively, people could simply call their retailers to see if they have a better offer available. "We know that customers that haven't done this in a while are probably paying too much." "Every three to four months, electricity companies are required to tell you on your bill if a cheaper plan is available," Brakey said. "If you get this message, you are paying more than you need to." Pricing in the retail electricity market is becoming more complex as more customers are on time of use or demand tariffs. There are also more customers on offers with multiple complex pricing elements, who may find it challenging to respond to these complicated price signals. The report found that customers on time-of-use offers have lower calculated annual prices on average than flat rate offers. "The increasing complexity in pricing as the smart meter rollout continues, presents a real challenge to consumers who are trying to reduce their electricity bills," Brakey said. As she prepared to leave for winter vacation, Tracey Pauline Albert, a master’s student at Columbia University originally from India, took no chances with her return plans. Her flight back to the U.S. was carefully scheduled to land well before Jan. 20. Columbia is one of a handful of U.S. colleges and universities that have been cautioning their international student bodies to return to campus early to avoid any travel delays. Some schools are specifically advising students to arrive before President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20. The University of Southern California, Cornell University, Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are among the schools that have advised concerned students to return to campus early. “There is a palpable sense of anxiety among internationals regarding the ambiguity surrounding immigration policies,” Albert, who is studying for a Master of Public Administration, told NBC News via email. “Small adjustments, like ensuring one is back in the U.S. before key dates such as January 20th, are manageable. However, the question of what comes after remains.” For students like Albert, who carefully navigate the complexities of living and studying in the U.S., the looming uncertainty of Trump’s second term has reignited fears of travel bans and stricter immigration rules. Schools say they are attempting to help, providing resources for visa holders and saying they can help mobilize in the event of an emergency. “Based on previous experience with travel bans that were enacted in the first Trump Administration ... the Office of Global Affairs is making this advisory out of an abundance of caution,” a University of Massachusetts Amherst office wrote on Instagram . “We are not able to speculate on what a travel ban will look like if enacted, nor can we speculate on what particular countries or regions of the world may or may not be affected.” Though not directly referencing inauguration, a note from Harvard said that it’s monitoring immigration policy closely. It encouraged international students to arrive well before the start of the semester. Referencing Trump’s Muslim travel ban, which was first put into effect just days after he took office in 2017, Cornell encouraged students to carry their papers with them at all times when traveling. “Ensure that they are up to date, and bring additional paperwork demonstrating your purpose at Cornell,” the university wrote . Lingering Muslim ban-driven fears Trump’s initial executive order, signed a week into his first term, barred all travelers from seven Muslim-majority countries for 90 days. It left some students and faculty who were out of town stranded or held at the airport. “For most of the students, they were essentially stopped from boarding the flight,” said Gaurav Khanna, an associate professor of economics and immigration scholar at the University of California, San Diego. “There were a lot of students who did get detained. Some, for instance, if they were transiting through Canada, they couldn’t get on the last leg.” The ban was ruled unconstitutional, but was ultimately upheld by the Supreme Court in 2018. President Joe Biden repealed it when he took office in 2021. Though it’s unclear whether Trump will reinstate the ban, students have expressed concern over past controversial statements he’s made about deporting protesters on college campuses. “When I am president, we will not allow our colleges to be taken over by violent radicals,” Trump said at a rally in New Jersey earlier this year. “If you come here from another country and try to bring jihadism or anti-Americanism or antisemitism to our campuses, we will immediately deport you.” Though the largest numbers of international students in the U.S. come from India and China, experts say even the fear of potential bans could create a chilling effect on enrollment at universities. For Chinese students especially, this post-Covid fear coincides with a dip in their enrollment numbers at U.S. schools. “Given the tensions with China and the large number of students from China, there is this uncertainty,” Khanna said. “That can hurt not just the students, but the universities broadly. Even if the administration doesn’t actually end up doing anything in the short run, that fear might not go away for a while, and as a result it’s going to hurt enrollment.”In recent years, the scales of Western New York’s storied Canisius/St. Joe’s rivalry have tipped in the Crusaders’ favor. On a cold, rainy Saturday at the Stransky Sports Complex in West Seneca, Elijah Kimble and the Crusaders pushed a little firmer down on the plate. Canisius Crusader running back Elijah Kimble (0) carries St Joe’s Marauder Giorgio Panepinto (1) during the first half of the Monsignor Martin Division A football final against St. Joe’s at the Stransky Athletic Complex in Orchard Park on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024. (Joed Viera/Buffalo News) Canisius’ sophomore sensation rumbled for more than 200 yards and four touchdowns as Canisius defeated St. Joe’s 32-22 for its first Monsignor Martin football championship since 2020. Kimble scored three of those touchdowns in the first half alone. “We had a talk that we weren’t going to feel how we felt last year during that one-point loss. We definitely don’t feel that way this year,” Kimble said, referring to Canisius’ 21-20 loss to St. Francis in last year’s championship. Canisius now leads the all-time series 51-48-3. The Crusaders have beaten their Kenmore rivals in the last 11 matchups and have won 21 of the past 22 games. Canisius was also playing in memory of 2024 graduate and former football player Kevon Walker, who died suddenly Nov. 4 at St. Francis University, where he was a member of the Red Flash team. Crusaders coach Kraig Kurzanski wore a special T-shirt under his quarter-zip jacket in memory of Walker. “I just hugged his mom. It’s such a tragic thing. It bonded our guys together the last couple of weeks,” Kurzanski said. After its first drive stalled deep in St. Joe’s territory, Canisius forced a St. Joe’s punt and started on the Marauders’ 49-yard line after a personal foul. Kimble took the first snap over the left side and accelerated into the open field for a touchdown, showcasing the blend of field vision and speed that has drawn the eye of schools such as Ohio State, Penn State and Ole Miss. Amari Wallace’s sack ended St. Joe’s next drive and gave Canisius the ball on the Marauders’ 29. A few plays later, Kimble had his second touchdown of the day, this one coming on a 12-yard run. “It felt great,” Kimble said. “Everybody gets their nerves, I had my nerves earlier in the day, but I came out, prayed to God and he came through.” The Crusaders’ defense neutralized the St. Joe’s ground game and forced another three-and-out. Canisius received the ball on the St. Joe’s 46 and drove downfield toward the goal line, and Amir Hernandez finished the job with a 2-yard touchdown on fourth down. “It felt great coming out here and dominating, getting them early in the start. It felt great,” Hernandez said. Kimble put the exclamation point on the first half with a 70-yard touchdown run down the left sideline. A trick play on the ensuing 2-point conversion failed, leaving Canisius with a 26-0 lead. St. Joe’s took advantage of a costly pass interference call and put together a drive capped by Rozek’s 8-yard touchdown catch, though the 2-point conversion was stuffed. “The kids didn’t quit, they fought to the end,” St. Joe’s coach Mike Corona said. “I told them at halftime: You've got to get over this and figure it out, and they did. The offense woke up, the defense settled down. They’re learning the things that, I think, will make them good people.” The third quarter went by quickly with Canisius maintaining its 26-6 lead. St. Joe’s made it 26-14 after Rozek leaked out for a 6-yard touchdown catch, but the Crusaders kept pace. Kimble plunged into the end zone on the following possession for a 3-yard touchdown run. St. Joe’s still didn’t go easily. With 3:35 to go, Klein hit senior George Kunz for a 37-yard score and the Marauders successfully recovered the ensuing onside kick. However, on third down at the Canisius 24, Hernandez intercepted Klein to ice the comeback and secure the title. “If it weren’t for Elijah, everybody would know who (Hernandez) is, right? He’s a really good defender and he’s an excellent running back,” Kurzanski said. Kimble was named the Monsignor Martin playoffs MVP after the game for his performance. He had eight touchdowns and more than 500 yards in two playoff games. Canisius will play Iona Prep for the state championship next Saturday at the Stransky Complex.
