NEW DELHI: India and Russia have decided to step up joint efforts in dealing with challenges of radicalisation and terror financing. Ways to deepen cooperation in tackling threats of terrorism were discussed at a meeting of the India-Russia joint working group (JWG) on counter-terrorism cooperation. At a separate meeting on issues relating to the United Nations, Russia reiterated its support for India as a permanent member of a reformed UN Security Council. The meeting took place in Moscow on December 19 and 20. "In the 13th JWG on counter-terrorism, both sides shared their experiences in countering terrorism including cross-border terrorism, extremism and agreed to enhance cooperation to address problems of radicalisation as well as terror financing," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Saturday. "They discussed current terrorist threats at the global and regional level and combating the use of new and emerging technologies for terrorist purposes," it said in a statement. The MEA said both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening counter-terrorism cooperation in bilateral as well as multilateral platforms. India and Russia also held the sixth round of consultations on UN related issues in Moscow. "In the consultations on UN-related issues, both sides exchanged views on regional and global developments and issues pertaining to the UNSC (UN Security Council), including its reform," the MEA said. "Russia reiterated its support for India as a permanent member of a reformed UN Security Council," it said. Tanmaya Lal, Secretary (West) in the MEA, led the Indian delegation at the JWG on Counter Terrorism (CT) cooperation and the consultations on UN related issues. The Russian side was headed by Sergey Vershinin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. Representatives of respective departments and agencies from both sides also participated in the meetings. New Delhi, Nov 23 (PTI) AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday termed his party's win in three out of four seats in the Punjab bypolls a "semi-final", asserting that the party is on course for another historic mandate in Delhi. Kejriwal, a former chief minister of Delhi, said the people of Punjab have chosen the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the second time which shows that it is doing good work. "Over the past decade, we have established the Delhi model of governance that focuses on making life easier for the common man," he said. The AAP national convener also took to social media platform X and said, "The people of Punjab have once again expressed their faith in the ideology of the Aam Aadmi Party and the work of our government by giving us three out of four seats in the by-elections. A heartfelt thank you to the people of Punjab and many congratulations to everyone." Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, referring to the AAP's election symbol 'broom', said the party, which "used to clean homes and shops with a broom", was now cleaning "all of India" under Kejriwal's leadership. The post reads: "Poppy is 11 weeks old and sadly has already had four homes in her short little life before coming to us so we are looking for a home committed to the training needs for a puppy, and a home that will give Poppy the stability and routine she needs "Since coming to us Poppy had settled straight into her foster home and is a bundle of fun and energy. She is learning that a cat rules the world and that sometimes the other other dogs don’t want to play all day long! Poppy has a lot of collie traits and is very clever, she is a very trainable dog and would suit an active family. "Poppy is almost housetrained but any home should expect a few accidents as she is still a baby. Poppy is a typical puppy who does have shark like teeth at this age so she would be best in a home with older children as she is still teething. He was speaking while inaugurating the One Water Summit in Riyadh in the presence of several presidents and top officials, including French President Emmanuel Macron. Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and several ministers and officials were also present. The crown prince said the summit was being held in conjunction with the Kingdom hosting the 16th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, which aims to reduce land degradation and drought. He said that the Kingdom had contributed $6 billion in supporting 200 water-related projects in more than 60 developing countries around the world. The summit is being jointly chaired by Saudi Arabia, France and Kazakhstan, and supported by the World Bank. It underscores Saudi Arabia’s pioneering international role in confronting water challenges across the world and its commitment to sustainable environmental issues. The crown prince also confirmed that Saudi Arabia is preparing to host the World Water Forum 2027, in cooperation with the World Water Council. Since 1960, 14 accomplished individuals have led Quebec, including nine lawyers, one neurosurgeon and several with strong economic credentials. François Legault is no exception. As an accountant and business executive, he co-founded Air Transat in 1986, which became one of the largest airline companies in Canada. Legault was drafted into politics by the Parti Québécois in 1998, subsequently holding key portfolios in successive administrations. He left in 2009 and two years later co-founded the Coalition Avenir Québec, offering a “third way” — a break from Quebec’s traditional political party dichotomy of separatism (PQ) versus federalism (Liberal) — and abandoning any sovereignty referendum notion, to instead focus on Quebec’s economic autonomy within Canada. In 2013 he published his ambitious economic vision of a Quebec “Silicon Valley” with a series of technopark/living environments running along the St. Lawrence River, which would create a valley of innovation and attract hundreds of new companies with thousands of high-tech jobs. It’s therefore not surprising that Legault lunged at the opportunity to invest heavily in the electric car battery sector, a transition to future green technology. His government, with the feds, quickly committed billions to induce the Swedish battery manufacturer Northvolt to build a $7-billion mega-factory in Quebec . Legault called it the largest private manufacturing investment in the province’s history , saying it would transform Quebec into a global player in the electric vehicle supply chain. Legault’s big gamble on Northvolt, however, is now teetering on the verge of disaster. The company has been struggling to meet production targets, hampered by delays that led to cancellations of major contracts. They’ve slashed their workforce, cutting back production while growth and demand for electric vehicles slows down. On Thursday, the company announced it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. There was talk that Goldman Sachs might bail out Northvolt, but would require Quebec to cede its financial guarantees to them. Or will Quebec pump in more money to help the Swedish company? Both scenarios are impossible for Legault politically, having no choice but to categorically say no when asked in the National Assembly . With the experience and economic background Legault brings to the table, the collapse of this project would be a huge blow to his credibility. Obviously, the failure of some economic gambles is beyond one’s control, sometimes due to unexpected changes in the market or circumstances of mismanagement. And few politicians would likely have resisted the sex appeal of a green venture that appeared so promising. However, Legault often allows politics to temper his business acumen. For any major investment gamble in the private sector, you would roll up your sleeves and do your due diligence with rigorous risk assessment analyses; one wonders if that was done here. Northvolt was founded in 2015 by two former Tesla employees. The first battery was assembled in December 2021, with the first customer cell deliveries in 2022, barely a year before the Quebec announcement. Northvolt is essentially a startup without any extensive track record. Did attractive political optics outweigh due diligence? Legault paid a heavy political price for abandoning the promised “third link” tunnel project connecting Lévis to Quebec City, which also may have lacked proper analysis as to its feasibility. In 2022, the Legault government twice doled out so-called anti-inflation cheques to most Quebecers, seemingly to curry favour in an election year, despite warnings by economists that it would backfire. The $6.7 billion in handouts inevitably contributed to the largest budget deficit in Quebec’s history this year. Thursday’s economic update showed we are still drowning in red ink. Legault’s attack on English universities via tuition hikes was also hastily improvised and destined to induce negative economic spinoffs. François Legault is very capable. Quebec would be better served, however, if he prioritized his economic instincts over political impulse. But on Saturday, the Seminoles overcame a rough start and put together one of their more complete efforts of the season. Florida State had not scored more than 21 points in a game prior to Saturday's contest and its 175 rushing yards more than doubled its average (80.5 per game) this season. No single runner had over 40 yards, but seven rushers combined for that output on 34 attempts. The Seminoles entered the game ranked 130th out of 133 FBS teams in rushing offense. Holmes, a senior, finished with three carries for 38 yards, including touchdown runs of 3 and 18 yards. Kromenhoek gave Florida State a sliver of hope for its quarterback future as he completed 13 of 20 passes for 209 yards and no interceptions. He threw TD passes for Amaree Williams, Ja'Khi Douglas and Hykeem Williams. The highlight was a 71-yard touchdown pass to Douglas on the first play from scrimmage of the second half to put the Seminoles ahead 24-0. Douglas finished with 82 yards receiving on three catches, and 10 different Florida State players caught passes for 240 total yards. The Seminoles went 6 of 10 on third downs after averaging only a 25 percent conversion rate all season. Their defense held Charleston Southern to 275 total yards (57 rushing) and forced two turnovers. Florida State was unable to hang on to the shutout, however, as Bucs quarterback Kaleb Jackson found Landon Sauers for a 7-yard touchdown pass with 57 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Jackson completed 22 of 32 passes for 218 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The Bucs defense recorded three sacks led by Davion Williams, who had eight tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack.
