LIBERTY LAKE, Wash., Dec. 11, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI), which is innovating new ways for utilities and cities to manage energy and water, marks a significant milestone with the 50th deployment of its Temetra ® solution in Australia, which is being deployed by Aqwest, the provider of drinking water to the City of Bunbury and its surrounding areas in Western Australia. With Itron’s cloud-based multi-vendor meter data collection and management solution, Aqwest will be able to manage its existing mechanical meters while enhancing and optimizing operations. Aqwest selected Temetra, Itron’s innovative cloud-based solution, to simplify meter data collection by utilizing a solution capable of incorporating multi-vendor meter reads. With the adoption of Temetra, Aqwest can now upgrade to digital meters at a pace best suited for its operations and seamlessly collect meter readings from existing mechanical meters and future smart meters through a single data collection and management platform. This multi-vendor capability allows Aqwest to gain comprehensive insights into consumption patterns through one unified platform. Utilizing Aqwest’s existing communication protocols and meter vendors, Temetra will collect, record and upload meter data using the handheld mobile Android devices currently in use by the utility. Temetra provides valuable insights by analyzing both current reads and historical data, enabling Aqwest to address customer billing questions and detect potential water leaks. This 50th customer milestone reinforces Itron’s commitment to addressing water scarcity in Australia and ensuring that communities are better equipped to manage water operations. The Temetra solution enables utilities to address critical water management tasks more efficiently. These capabilities are key to helping utilities anticipate and address potential water challenges before they turn into a crisis, such as losing water within the distribution system. “Aqwest is committed to providing sustainable, high-quality drinking water to the Bunbury Region. As the effects of climate change continue to impact on local water security, having an efficient water management system in place is crucial,” said Gary Hallsworth, chief executive officer at Aqwest. “We are delighted to be working with Itron to upgrade our water metering infrastructure to improve our customer consumption data and billing capabilities.” “Australia is no stranger to water shortages due to its dry climate, recurring droughts and the challenges caused by climate disruption, making water management a complex issue. On top of these challenges, population growth is increasing the demand on existing water infrastructure, much of which is aging and prone to inefficiencies,” said Don Reeves, senior vice president of Outcomes at Itron. “We are excited to celebrate this significant milestone. Working together with Australian utilities, we strive to deploy efficient solutions to address these challenges and to ensure that both remote and urban communities are equipped to tackle water management. With Temetra, utilities across the country are another step closer to water security.” Temetra is a globally adopted, cloud-based, multi-vendor, multi-commodity, meter data management solution. Temetra supports a variety of meter manufacturers and communications protocols enabling a smooth migration from automated meter reading to advanced meter reading. Temetra’s open ecosystem solution enables interoperability at all levels and supports multiple data collection technologies concurrently, providing utilities a smooth migration path from manual to smart metering. Storing meter read data from a variety of sources in one location, combined with other innovations like map-based routing, enhances operational efficiency. Temetra has demonstrated scalability, accommodating thousands of customers ranging in size from several hundred meters to several million. About Itron Itron is a proven global leader in energy, water, smart city, IIoT and intelligent infrastructure services. The number of Republican women who own guns has jumped from just under one in five to more than three out of ten. Gallup divided decades of survey results into “six-year groups” and found that whereas 19 percent of Republican women owned guns from 2007-2012, now 33 percent of Republican women do. This means more Republican women own guns than do Democrat men, only 29 percent of whom own a weapon. Gun ownership among Independent men shows a five percentage slide, down to 39 percent. On the other hand, six out of ten Republican men own guns, making them the dominate political demographic among gun owners. When viewed outside of political identification, 43 percent of all men and 20 percent of all women are “likely to own guns.” AWR Hawkins is an award-winning Second Amendment columnist for Breitbart News and the writer/curator of Down Range with AWR Hawkins , a weekly newsletter focused on all things Second Amendment, also for Breitbart News. Incumbent president Zoran Milanovic, the opposition Socialist Democrats' candidate, was on track to win a second term of office in the first round of Croatia's presidential election, the State Electoral Commission said. or signup to continue reading Preliminary results on Sunday showed that based on results from nearly 52 per cent of polling stations Milanovic had won 50.1 per cent support, far ahead of his main challenger Dragan Primorac - the candidate of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) - on 22.3 per cent. Around 3.8 million Croats were eligible to vote, choosing from eight candidates ranging from across the political spectrum. The post of president is mostly ceremonial. The election will go to a second round on January 12 if none of the candidates wins a majority. During his five-year term which expires on February 18, Milanovic, a former prime minister, has clashed with Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic over foreign and public policy and has fiercely criticised the European Union and NATO over their support for Ukraine. The president cannot veto laws, but has a say in foreign policy, defence and security matters. Despite his populist rhetoric, Milanovic is seen by many as the only counterbalance to the HDZ-dominated government, which has seen 30 ministers forced to leave in recent years amid allegations of corrupt practices. November 23 - Sunday's showdown between the Philadelphia 76ers and visiting Los Angeles Clippers is not going to materialize in the way Paul George had hoped. After five seasons with the Clippers, George signed a four-year, $212 million deal with the Sixers in the offseason. However, the team has won only three times in its first 15 games with stars Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and George all missing significant time due to injuries. Embiid continues to nurse a knee injury and will miss this matchup, while George (hyperextended knee) will not be available to face his former team. Meanwhile, the Clippers have been up-and-down this season while playing the entire campaign without two-way standout Kawhi Leonard (knee). Los Angeles opened the season 2-1 before losing three in a row. The team then won four straight, then lost three consecutive games and now has won four straight entering Sunday's opener of a four-game road trip. The Clippers announced over the weekend that Leonard would miss the entire trip, which puts more pressure on former Sixers guard James Harden, who is averaging 20.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and a team-high 8.8 assists. Norman Powell is the Clippers' leading scorer at 23.3 points per game. He will miss his third consecutive game with a hamstring issue. The Clippers won twice at home without Powell, including Friday's 104-88 triumph over the Sacramento Kings. Harden had 22 points to lead the way in that contest, while Ivica Zubac notched 10 points and 15 rebounds. "All games are meaningful for us," Clippers coach Tyronn Lue said after the win in NBA Cup play. "Playing for the Cup and having a chance to go to Vegas to play for the big money is always intriguing as well. But we got to play the same way every night, whether it's the Cup, whatever we are doing, being short-handed." After committing 22 turnovers in the victory over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday, the Clippers committed just 12 turnovers against the Kings. "We've just got to take care of the basketball," Lue said. That will be particularly important Sunday against a Philadelphia squad that forced 19 turnovers in Friday's 113-98 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. On the offensive end, rookie Jared McCain and All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey combined for 56 points as the Sixers snapped a five-game slide. "I ain't gonna lie, it felt good to win," Maxey said after shooting 11-of-17 for 26 points. "I'm not going to sit here and talk about making shots. We played so hard, offensively and defensively, (and) played together. Guys stuck together." McCain was caught on camera in the fourth quarter saying, "I'm Rookie of the Year." The guard finished with 30 points -- his seventh straight game with at least 20 points. "It's one of my goals for the season, obviously," McCain said, "but it was just that competitiveness coming out of me. I respect every other rookie in this league, but obviously I'm a believer in myself and so, yeah, some words definitely came out at that point." The teams met Nov. 6 in Los Angeles, where the Clippers posted a comfortable 110-98 victory behind 26 points from Powell. --Field Level Media Our Standards: The Thomson Reuters Trust Principles. , opens new tabAuthor's Tranquility Press Presents: The Whimsical Journey by Gail Bellucci 11-21-2024 11:28 PM CET | Associations & Organizations Press release from: ABNewswire A Captivating Tale of Friendship, Adventure, and the Magic of Imagination Author's Tranquility Press is thrilled to announce the release of: The Whimsical Journey [ https://www.amazon.com/Whimsical-Journey-Gail-Bellucci-ebook/dp/B09MVRL8VB/ref=sr_1_1?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.yTvhCVM_--OGWg1B1nee1g.OLpS7RZCPhmWK79vmxhJU4YPYGuIaOTE084-wmGjTn8&dib_tag=se&keywords=978-1669801238&qid=1732046632&s=books&sr=1-1 ], a delightful children's book by Gail Bellucci. he Indonesian proverb “lepas mulut harimau, masuk mulut buaya” (literally, out of a tiger’s mouth, into a crocodile’s mouth) or its English equivalent “out of the frying pan into the fire” will very likely apply to the 25 million people of Syria, after the rebels forced president Bashar al-Assad to flee on Dec. 8. The world, including Indonesia, must help the Syrians not to fall into this trap. For 53 years, Bashar al-Assad and his father Hafez ruled Syria with an iron fist, devastated the economy, slaughtered millions of innocents and let outsiders interfere in Syria’s internal affairs because it was the easiest way for the ruthless dynasty to maintain power. Indonesia also had a bitter experience with dictatorship, but the nation got back on its own feet. Indonesia cannot participate in the economic domain, but we have enormous soft potential to contribute meaningfully to the failed state. The rich Arab countries, the European Union, the United States, and multilateral organizations, and other industrialized nations have the resources to help rebuild Syria’s economy. Democracy is Indonesia’s most substantial offer. A contribution that no Arab country is likely to be able to provide, as shown by the results of the failed “Arab Spring”. Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim nation but not an Islamic state, has proved that Islam is compatible with democracy, including its most modern form. Despite its shortcomings, Indonesia is now the world’s third-largest democracy after India and the US. There are views that Indonesia’s transition from a dictatorship to a fully fledged democracy is not a model for the countries of the Arab Spring, including Tunisia and Egypt, because although there are similarities, there are also huge differences. Whether you're looking to broaden your horizons or stay informed on the latest developments, "Viewpoint" is the perfect source for anyone seeking to engage with the issues that matter most. By registering, you agree with 's Please check your email for your newsletter subscription. One of Indonesia’s most evident factors is the determination to choose a de-facto secular system since independence. Islamist parties almost never dominate domestic politics, as nationalist and secular parties have won nearly all elections, both rigged and genuine ones. From time to time there are attempts by small, but often noisy and sometimes violent, Islamist organizations, to turn Indonesia into an Islamic nation, but they have never received any significant support. This is very different from the situation faced by Arab nations. We call on President to organize a special team led by Foreign Minister Sugiono to prepare a mission involving multiple parties, including civil society organizations. It may be a nearly impossible mission because the situation in Syria is so complex that it could need decades for recovery. But Indonesia also has good experience in democratic diplomacy, including promoting the role of women in the development of Afghanistan, although this collapsed after the Taliban took over that government in 2021. In the last 10 years, the Foreign Ministry, under the leadership of Retno LP Marsudi, was quite active in the soft-power mission to Islamic nations. We do not preach but share our experience and invite them to Indonesia to interact with grassroots organizations, including Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah. It is up to them to decide, but at least they see good examples of democracy from Indonesian Muslims. A people power movement forced Soeharto to end his 32-year dictatorship in May 1998. Just a year later, the nation held an internationally recognized general election. Since 2004, Indonesia has held five direct presidential elections, a popular-based vote, without any meaningful problems. Since 2005, the country has adopted direct regional head elections at all levels. Soeharto brought its economy to the brink, and Indonesia became indebted to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in 1997. However, it was able to pay off all of its loans to the global agency in 2006. Look at Syria now. According to the United Nations Population Agency (UNPA), 16.7 million people need humanitarian assistance, the highest number since the civil war erupted in 2011. Meanwhile, more than 6 million Syrian refugees remain displaced in neighboring countries. Indonesia should play its role in helping the Syrians to fully regain their rights, including democracy. This is a good opportunity for President Prabowo to help the Syrians
He is not yet in power but President-elect Donald Trump rattled much of the world with an off-hours warning of stiff tariffs on close allies and China -- a loud hint that Trump-style government by social media post is coming back. With word of these levies against goods imported from Mexico, Canada and China, Trump sent auto industry stocks plummeting, raised fears for global supply chains and unnerved the world's major economies. For Washington-watchers with memories of the Republican's first term, the impromptu policy volley on Monday evening foreshadowed a second term of startling announcements of all manner, fired off at all hours of the day from his smartphone. "Donald Trump is never going to change much of anything," said Larry Sabato, a leading US political scientist and director of the University of Virginia's Center for Politics. "You can expect in the second term pretty much what he showed us about himself and his methods in the first term. Social media announcements of policy, hirings and firings will continue." The first of Trump's tariff announcements -- a 25 percent levy on everything coming in from Mexico and Canada -- came amid an angry rebuke of lax border security at 6:45 pm on Truth Social, Trump's own platform. The United States is bound by agreements on the movement of goods and services brokered by Trump in a free trade treaty with both nations during his first term. But Trump warned that the new levy would "remain in effect until such time as Drugs, in particular Fentanyl, and all Illegal Aliens stop this Invasion of our Country" -- sowing panic from Ottawa to Mexico City. Seconds later, another message from the incoming commander-in-chief turned the focus on Chinese imports, which he said would be hit with "an additional 10% Tariff, above any additional Tariffs." The consequences were immediate. Almost every major US automaker operates plants in Mexico, and shares in General Motors and Stellantis -- which produce pickup trucks in America's southern neighbor -- plummeted. Canada, China and Mexico protested, while Germany called on its European partners to prepare for Trump to impose hefty tariffs on their exports and stick together to combat such measures. The tumult recalls Trump's first term, when journalists, business leaders and politicians at home and abroad would scan their phones for the latest pronouncements, often long after they had left the office or over breakfast. During his first four years in the Oval Office, the tweet -- in those days his newsy posts were almost exclusively limited to Twitter, now known as X -- became the quasi-official gazette for administration policy. The public learned of the president-elect's 2020 Covid-19 diagnosis via an early-hours post, and when Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander Qasem Soleimani was assassinated on Trump's order, the Republican confirmed the kill by tweeting a US flag. The public and media learned of numerous other decisions big and small by the same source, from the introduction of customs duties to the dismissal of cabinet secretaries. It is not a communication method that has been favored by any previous US administration and runs counter to the policies and practices of most governments around the world. Throughout his third White House campaign, and with every twist and turn in his various entanglements with the justice system, Trump has poured his heart out on Truth Social, an app he turned to during his 20-month ban from Twitter. In recent days, the mercurial Republican has even named his attorney general secretaries of justice and health via announcements on the network. "He sees social media as a tool to shape and direct the national conversation and will do so again," said political scientist Julian Zelizer, a Princeton University professor. cjc/ft/dw/bjt
