In a span of about 20 hours, SpaceX could manage three rocket launches and one landing of a Dragon spacecraft. It flew a Department of Defense mission from Cape Canaveral on Monday night and on Tuesday knocked out a National Reconnaissance Office mission from California and the landing of the latest cargo Dragon spacecraft off the coast of Florida. The topper will be a launch from Kennedy Space Center that would mark 90 spaceflight missions among all providers on the Space Coast in 2024. That launch would see a Falcon 9 on the mPower-E mission launching from KSC’s Launch Pad 39-A during a one-hour, 27-minute window that opens at 3:59 p.m. EST with backup during same window on Dec. 18. The payload is a pair of satellites for Luxembourg-based communications company SES headed to medium-Earth orbit. With one hour before the opening of the window, the countdown was paused for weather, and a new T-0 is pending. Space Launch Delta 45’s weather squadron forecasts a 55% chance for good launch conditions, that would improve to 65% in the event of a 24-hour delay. High winds at the launch site and concerns for booster recovery delayed launch attempts for both Space Coast missions over the weekend. When it does fly, this would be the first launch of the first-stage booster that will aim for a recovery landing downrange on the droneship Just Read the Instructions in the Atlantic. Already on Tuesday, a SpaceX cargo Dragon spacecraft made a successful splashdown off the coast of Florida to complete the CRS-31 mission. The Dragon arrived to the International Space Station with 6,000 pounds of resupply payloads back on Nov. 5 after launching from the Space Coast, and returned with thousands of pounds of supplies and science experiments. Earlier Tuesday, the company flew the NROL-149, a National Space Security Launch mission, from California’s Vandenberg Space Force Base. The busy schedule began on Monday night, with what had been a secretive mission leading up to launch. That one was a Falcon 9 that lifted off on the RRT-1 mission from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station’s Space Launch Complex 40 at 7:52 p.m. This was the fourth launch of the first-stage booster, which made a recovery landing on the droneship A Shortfall of Gravitas. After launch, the Space Force revealed in a press release the RRT stood for “Rapid Response Trailblazer,” and its payload was a GPS III satellite flying under a National Security Space Launch contract that had switched from United Launch Alliance to SpaceX. It touted the launch as “a new level of readiness and resilience” for its Space Systems Command and Space Operations Command, as it took less than five months to turn around the mission from its inception to launch. Normally this sort of NSSL mission would take 24 months to execute. The prelaunch processing timeline was also sped up from a normal six-month turnaround to only three months. It took an existing satellite manufactured by Lockheed Martin from storage, sped up its integration and readiness for launch. The mission was originally tapped to fly on a ULA Vulcan rocket, but had been delayed because Vulcan has yet to be certified by the Space Force. “This launch was a remarkable achievement that highlights the Space Force’s ability to execute high priority launches of major space systems on a significantly reduced timescale,” said Col. Jim Horne, senior materiel leader of Launch Execution for the Space Force’s Assured Access to Space program. “As an added benefit, it also demonstrates flexibility to adjust our manifest to minimize the impact of Vulcan delays.” The GPS satellite, which was nicknamed “Sally Ride,” joins 31 others already active in orbit, along with seven backup satellites and three more awaiting launch. “Over six billion people use GPS on a daily basis, and we are always eager to update the global capability we provide by getting some new technology on orbit,” said Col. Andrew Menschner, Space Force Delta 31 mission commander, which acted as the space vehicle lead for the first time. -------- ©2024 Orlando Sentinel. Visit at orlandosentinel.com . A video has been circulating various social media sites showing a woman yelling in a local convenience store and along with her dog, who aggressively barked at the store attendants. Someone in the store who was "trying to buy a sandwich" filmed the whole incident. According to RCMP, the incident took place over a year ago, on Sept. 19, 2023 at the Canco gas station in the 1100-block of Ethel Street. "Officers attended where it was determined an unknown female attacked two store employees and attempted to coerce her dog into biting them," said Kelowna RCMP in a press release. The incident was captured on cell phone video which was provided to police at the time. The next day, the woman was found and arrested for assault. She was released with an undertaking scheduled for court at a later date. Just over a month later, RCMP concluded their investigation at the request of the victims affected because the woman had never returned to the store and one of the victims no longer lives in the province. “For reasons unknown, this video only recently surfaced on social media over a year after the incident was reported and investigated by police,” RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Michael Gauthier. “In this particular case, when the victims of the offence(s) are no longer interested in pursuing charges, we are obligated to cancel the Undertaking and conclude the matter as is.” The video can be found here.Whitt scores 14, Belmont beats Middle Tennessee 82-79VERMILLION, S.D. GREENFIELD — With the support of a five-year, $7 million grant, three of Baystate Health’s hospitals are launching a substance use disorder treatment program, which will be based at Baystate Franklin Medical Center. The $7 million grant, awarded by the Massachusetts Bureau of Substance Addiction Services, will allow Baystate Health to launch an in-patient addiction consult service to expand the region’s resources. While based in Greenfield, the program will also expand to Baystate Noble Hospital in Westfield and Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer. The grant was secured by Dr. Bill Soares and former Baystate Franklin Chief Nursing Officer Deb Provost, who both will provide programmatic and administrative support in the service’s early stage. Dr. Adam Chamberlain, who serves as the medical director of the community addiction consult service, said this sort of in-patient service designed solely to treat substance-use disorders is a novel prospect for community hospitals like Baystate Franklin. “That’s not the norm. They’re becoming more common in big medical centers, but in terms of community hospitals, this is something that I’m not aware of that there’s many other examples,” Chamberlain said in a Zoom interview. “This is something special.” Chamberlain said the program will operate much like how other specialized care operates. The addiction consult team will assess patient needs, discuss treatment options with patients and make recommendations to the primary care team, as well as help patients connect with outpatient treatment and harm-reduction services. “For patients that are coming either into the emergency department or the general medical floors, you get a consult the same way that if you come into the hospital with a heart problem and you get a cardiology consult,” he explained. “It’s the same basic idea, and we help support the providers and staff for those specific questions about treating substance-use disorders.” The implementation of the program, Chamberlain said, does two things: it provides better care for those in the community struggling with substance use disorders and increases Baystate’s capacity for care all around. The nascent consult service in Greenfield also runs parallel to the existing addiction consult service at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, which will allow for collaboration between the two teams. Cross|Word Flipart Typeshift SpellTower Really Bad Chess “The medical management of substance use disorder, at least for opioid use disorders, is something that is fast-moving. There’s lot of changes because there’s lots of changes to the drug supply, so we need to be very up to date,” Chamberlain said, emphasizing that more resources will allow the hospital to further address the “social piece” of medical care. “A community hospital, overall, just does not have huge amounts of resources. Treating people with substance use disorders requires a lot of time and resources,” he added. “Having that time to actively listen and to put more focus [on people] is something we will be able to provide.” The program launched at Baystate Franklin in mid-November and Baystate Health is in the process of hiring two advanced nurse practitioners to expand the addiction consult service to Westfield and Palmer. The midfielder made his 100th Premier League appearance in the Reds’ 3-1 victory over the Foxes, and marked it by firing Arne Slot’s men in front. It was Klopp who handed the England international his Premier League debut against AFC Bournemouth back in 2019. And despite the German stepping down as Liverpool manager last summer, he is still keeping a close eye on his former club and players ahead of starting his new role with the Red Bull group next week. Jones paid tribute to his former manager for his role in both his own and Liverpool’s development, crediting him for leaving a strong foundation for Slot to build on at Anfield . And he also admitted that he did not even know he had made his 100th Premier League appearance, until he checked his phone in the dressing room and saw a message from Klopp. "I came in then and normally text family and I saw a text off [Jurgen] Klopp saying 'congratulations on 100 games and here’s to 500,” he revealed to Match of the Day. “I was like what is he on about?' “I just checked then and I am proud. It was him who set up the team we have now. The foundation was there and Arne Slot has carried it on. “It looks good but there are plenty of games to come. You can play a team at the bottom, middle or top and it is a hard game. It is about trying to win every single game and if we do that everybody knows what comes at the end. “We have still got a long, long way to go. There are plenty of games to come. We’ll take each game as it comes and try and win all the games. “It was a hard game. They sat back and defended well. Especially for me it was hard to find space inside. It was more of a patient game and not trying to play into their plan. In the first half we were crossing the ball a load and that is what they want. In the second half we changed it round, kept it more and that’s where the goals came. “We are a goal down it’s almost half-time but we don’t stop, we score. In the second half we start strong and score again. The thing is with us we just want to win each game."Stock indexes drifted to a mixed finish on Wall Street as some heavyweight technology and communications sector stocks offset gains elsewhere in the market. The S&P 500 slipped less than 0.1% Thursday, its first loss after three straight gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.1%, and the Nasdaq composite fell 0.1%. Gains by retailers and health care stocks helped temper the losses. Trading volume was lighter than usual as U.S. markets reopened following the Christmas holiday. The Labor Department reported that U.S. applications for unemployment benefits held steady last week, though continuing claims rose to the highest level in three years.
