The Democratic president late Sunday pardoned Hunter, who was convicted of federal gun and tax evasion charges earlier this year, after repeatedly denying he would use his pardoning powers for his 54-year-old son. “With 50 days left in his presidency, Joe Biden just set off a political timebomb before leaving for Africa today, and leaving his party behind to deal with the blast radius,” Collins said Monday night during “The Source with Kaitlan Collins.” Collins pointed out how Biden went back on his word, since he repeatedly said he would not pardon Hunter to prove that no one is above the law – an attempt to contrast himself with Trump. In a statement released Sunday , Biden said his son’s prosecution was unfair and politically motivated. “The charges in his cases came about only after several of my political opponents in Congress instigated them to attack me and oppose my election,” Biden said in the statement. “Raw politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice.” The statement “at times sounded like something Trump himself could have posted on Truth Social,” Collins said In a clip played during Collins’ show, Biden said he was committed to reinstating the Justice Department’s reputation and integrity after it had been “corrupted” under Trump. “I did not, have not and will not pick up the phone and call the attorney general and tell him what he should or should not do in terms of who he should prosecute,” Biden said in 2021 during a town hall. His promise was met with resounding applause. In another clip, this time from a June interview with ABC’s David Muir, Biden vowed to abide by the jury’s decision and said he had ruled out a pardon. Most recently, a few days after Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in November, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre responded to reporters’ questions about a possible pardon: “We’ve been asked that question multiple times. Our answer stands, which is no.” In June, Hunter was convicted in Delaware federal court of three felonies for purchasing a gun in 2018 after prosecutors say he lied on a federal form by claiming he was not using or addicted to drugs. Hunter had been set to take the stand in a California trial in September over claims he failed to pay at least $1.4 million in taxes, but he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor and felony charges in a surprise last-minute move as jury selection was set to begin. “Rarely, if ever, have we heard from both Biden and Trump on the same page about anything,” Collins said. “But now, it’s in print – their mutual anger at the Justice Department,” Collins said.

WINNIPEG — A Winnipeg man has been extradited to New Jersey to face a murder charge in the death of a woman in 1997. Robert Allen Creter, who is 60, faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of 23-year-old Tamara Tignor, whose body was found on a dirt access road near Washington Valley Park. Officials believe she was strangled. Prosecutors say a break in the long-unsolved case came last year, when evidence originally collected was resubmitted for DNA testing that was not technologically possible at the time. They say that pointed them to Creter, who had moved to Winnipeg in 2002. Creter was arrested in June and held in custody until his extradition. He was transferred last week to the United States Marshals Service at the Winnipeg airport, and officials say he is being held in custody pending a detention hearing. “The arrest of a suspect in this decades-old case is a testament to the unwavering dedication of law enforcement to seek justice, no matter how much time has passed,” Col. Patrick Callahan with the New Jersey State Police said in a news release. Tignor disappeared after getting into a van. The investigation is ongoing and officials would not say whether she and the accused knew each other or comment on a possible motive. A prosecutor told reporters Monday that Tignor's mother had been hoping for a breakthrough. "Tammy's mom called our office on Nov. 4 of every year — the anniversary of Tammy's death — looking for an update," said Somerset County assistant prosecutor Mike McLaughlin. Kromenhoek completed 13 of 20 passes in his first college start, including a 71-yard touchdown pass to Ja’Khi Douglas, as the Seminoles (2-9) won for the first time since Sept. 21. The true freshman also connected with Amaree Williams for a 4-yard TD and Hykeem Williams for a 10-yard TD. Florida State had the nation’s lowest scoring offense at 13.3 points. WASHINGTON—A powerful but little-known mechanism is expected to be employed in the upcoming Congress to advance significant parts of President-elect Donald Trump’s legislative agenda. The budget reconciliation mechanism can be used to pass certain types of legislation without having to clear the 60-vote filibuster threshold in the Senate. By avoiding filibuster, only a simple majority is needed in the Senate. Reconciliation, established by the 1974 Congressional Budget Act, can be used to pass measures related to three issues: taxation, spending, and debt. Under the Byrd Rule, named after the late Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.), reconciliation bills cannot increase the deficit beyond a decade and cannot be used to make changes to Social Security. Measures must originate from committees with jurisdiction over the subject matter. For instance, the Senate Commerce Committee can propose amendments related to transportation but not homeland security. The rule also states that reconciliation cannot be used to pass measures where the spending or taxing effects are minimal. For example, lawmakers might attempt to include an amendment in a border bill under reconciliation that requires the president to close the border if there are 100 illegal entries in a day. While such a provision involves costs, such as paying Border Patrol agents, the spending would be considered secondary, making the amendment likely inadmissible under reconciliation. Decisions on whether amendments are germane fall to the parliamentarian of the chamber where the amendment is introduced. The reconciliation process was used in the GOP’s unsuccessful attempt to repeal and replace Obamacare in 2017 but was successful later that year to pass Trump’s tax reform and tax cuts for the 2018 fiscal year, which began on Oct. 1. Since reconciliation bills are tied to the fiscal year, the deadline for passage expires on Sept. 30. For instance, a reconciliation bill to fund border security could have a top-line number of $1 trillion. Total costs in the bill cannot exceed that amount, leading to some measures being excluded or reduced. A border bill with that top-line could allocate $50 million for a border barrier, but this would mean $50 million less for other priorities, such as border technologies. In the Senate, up to 20 hours of debate is allowed on the budget resolution. The process typically includes what is known as a “vote-a-rama,” during which senators propose unlimited amendments, many of which are symbolic. These amendments are often an attempt by the opposition to delay or block the resolution, even though it requires only a simple majority to pass. The House GOP leadership has been mostly quiet on what will be passed using reconciliation. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said that the details will be revealed “in the coming weeks.” Based on Trump’s campaign promises, it is expected that Republicans will use the mechanism to expand the 2017 tax cuts and repeal at least parts of the Inflation Reduction Act.- The National Philharmonic named after T.
