There is no simple way to encapsulate the effects of Swift’s decision to put on a 3-and-a-half-hour concert, showcasing 44 songs representing 10 different “eras” of her career – a feat she kicked off in March 2023 and will end soon in Vancouver, Canada. The tour shattered sales and attendance records and created such an economic boom that even the Federal Reserve took note. Savouring the time remaining “Right now we have this special designated time to be together, talk about the show and hang out,” said Tess Bohne, a stay-at-home mom of three turned content creator dedicated to livestreaming Swift’s concerts — by attending herself or coordinating with others to highlight their streams. “For some, it’s their therapy.” Swift jets off to Singapore, marking the end of her Aussie era View Gallery Bohne, who has earned the title among the Swiftie community as the “livestream queen,” says she often interacts with fans hosting parties to watch an Eras concert live at home with their closest friends. People have also made lasting friendships as they geek out together watching the show from afar. Swift has long been known for leaving Easter eggs for her fans to pinpoint and decipher, a quirk that quickly took on a life of its own during the tour as eagle-eyed devotees began analysing the possible meaning of her outfits, surprise songs and subtle lyric swaps. The buzz has been so large that multiple mobile apps were launched so fans could guess and track all the various changes. That’s going to leave a hole for some folks.” Swift herself appeared to struggle that the end was near while performing at her 100th Eras show in June at Liverpool. “This is the very first time I’ve ever acknowledged to myself and admitted that this tour is gonna end in December,” she said, stressing that “this tour has really become my entire life.” Late last month, in Toronto, she briefly broke down at the thought of the tour's impending end. By the end of 2023, it had become the first tour to ever gross over $1 billion and saw hundreds of millions of dollars spent on merchandise. She is likely to bring in over $2 billion ($3.1 billion) by the time the tour wraps on December 8, according to concert trade publication Pollstar. And now she can talk about artist rights and women’s rights and equality. And really, just her work ethic is relentless." Even the word “era” has become ubiquitous, with fans and casual observers using the term to explain both frivolous and transformative phases – are you in your “villain era” or a “healing era”? “I think this tour really solidified her position as a legend,” said Kayla Wong, an influencer who runs the popular Swift-focused Instagram account @headfirstfearless. “Whether or not you like her music, whether or not you think she’s talented, the numbers really speak for themselves. The tour broke so many records and was such a global phenomenon for so long that I think she’s achieved a level where it’s undeniable as to how everlasting her impact is.” By the end of 2023, the tour had become the first tour to ever gross over $1 billion. (Getty Images for TAS Rights Mana) Yet the tour did experience its own dark moments. In Brazil last year, one concertgoer –23-year-old Ana Clara Benevides – passed out and later died of heat exhaustion. In July, British police charged a 17-year-old with murder over a stabbing attack during a Taylor Swift-themed summer holiday dance and yoga class that left three little girls dead. News outlets reported that Swift met with some of the survivors backstage in London. And in August, all three of Swift's concerts in Vienna were called off after officials announced arrests over an apparent plot to launch an attack on an event in the city. Tens of thousands of Swifties from around the world had traveled to Vienna for the shows. “Having our Vienna shows cancelled was devastating,” Swift later wrote in a statement. “The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows.” Swift added her Totured Poets set to the Eras Tour in April 2024. (Getty Images for TAS Rights Mana) Swifties stronger than ever Through the hardships and celebrations, Swift's connections to her fans has only ballooned and deepened throughout the tour. After the Vienna cancellations, many fans flocked to the streets to sing Swift's songs and placed friendship bracelets – which also became an iconic feature of the shows – on a nearby tree. Over the past two years, the fandom has welcomed new audiences – both old and new. “I feel like years ago, we were kind of all the same age and fans for the same reason,” Wong said of Swifties. “Now the fandom has people from all kinds of backgrounds, all ages, all different reasons for following her in the first place.”GUANGZHOU, China, Nov. 22, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Highest Performances Holdings Inc. NEW YORK (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump’s lawyers formally asked a judge Monday to throw out his hush money criminal conviction , arguing that continuing the case would present unconstitutional “disruptions to the institution of the Presidency.“ In a filing made public Tuesday, Trump’s lawyers told Manhattan Judge Juan M. Merchan that anything short of immediate dismissal would undermine the transition of power, as well as the “overwhelming national mandate” granted to Trump by voters last month. They also cited President Joe Biden’s recent pardon of his son, Hunter Biden, who had been convicted of tax and gun charges . “President Biden asserted that his son was ‘selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted,’ and ‘treated differently,’” Trump’s legal team wrote. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, they claimed, had engaged in the type of political theater “that President Biden condemned.” Related Articles Prosecutors will have until Dec. 9 to respond. They have said they will fight any efforts to dismiss the case but have indicated a willingness to delay the sentencing until after Trump’s second term ends in 2029. In their filing Monday, Trump’s attorneys dismissed the idea of holding off sentencing until Trump is out of office as a “ridiculous suggestion.” Following Trump’s election victory last month, Merchan halted proceedings and indefinitely postponed his sentencing, previously scheduled for late November, to allow the defense and prosecution to weigh in on the future of the case. He also delayed a decision on Trump’s prior bid to dismiss the case on immunity grounds. Trump has been fighting for months to reverse his conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal a $130,000 payment to porn actor Stormy Daniels to suppress her claim that they had sex a decade earlier. He says they did not and denies any wrongdoing. The defense filing was signed by Trump lawyers Todd Blanche and Emil Bove, who represented Trump during the trial and have since been selected by the president-elect to fill senior roles at the Justice Department. Taking a swipe at Bragg and New York City, as Trump often did throughout the trial, the filing argues that dismissal would also benefit the public by giving him and “the numerous prosecutors assigned to this case a renewed opportunity to put an end to deteriorating conditions in the City and to protect its residents from violent crime.” Clearing Trump, the lawyers added, would also allow him to “to devote all of his energy to protecting the Nation.” Merchan hasn’t yet set a timetable for a decision. He could decide to uphold the verdict and proceed to sentencing, delay the case until Trump leaves office, wait until a federal appeals court rules on Trump’s parallel effort to get the case moved out of state court or choose some other option. An outright dismissal of the New York case would further lift a legal cloud that at one point carried the prospect of derailing Trump’s political future. Last week, special counsel Jack Smith told courts that he was withdrawing both federal cases against Trump — one charging him with hoarding classified documents at his Florida estate, the other with scheming to overturn the 2020 presidential election he lost — citing longstanding Justice Department policy that shields a president from indictment while in office. The hush money case was the only one of Trump’s four criminal indictments to go to trial, resulting in a historic verdict that made him the first former president to be convicted of a crime. Prosecutors had cast the payout as part of a Trump-driven effort to keep voters from hearing salacious stories about him. Trump’s then-lawyer Michael Cohen paid Daniels. Trump later reimbursed him, and Trump’s company logged the reimbursements as legal expenses — concealing what they really were, prosecutors alleged. Trump has said the payments to Cohen were properly categorized as legal expenses for legal work. A month after the verdict, the Supreme Court ruled that ex-presidents can’t be prosecuted for official acts — things they did in the course of running the country — and that prosecutors can’t cite those actions to bolster a case centered on purely personal, unofficial conduct. Trump’s lawyers cited the ruling to argue that the hush money jury got some improper evidence, such as Trump’s presidential financial disclosure form, testimony from some White House aides and social media posts made during his first term. Prosecutors disagreed and said the evidence in question was only “a sliver” of their case. If the verdict stands and the case proceeds to sentencing, Trump’s punishments would range from a fine to probation to up to four years in prison — but it’s unlikely he’d spend any time behind bars for a first-time conviction involving charges in the lowest tier of felonies. Because it is a state case, Trump would not be able to pardon himself once he returns to office.Jewish community comes together after firebomb attackHow Israel Uses AI in Gaza—And What It Might Mean for the Future of Warfare
MQ CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT: Marqeta, Inc. Investors With Losses Are Notified Of February 7 Deadline In Securities Fraud Class Action Contact BFA Law (NASDAQ:MQ)CHANGSHA, China , Dec. 28, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Modern China's rural revitalization strategy is crafting a remarkable narrative of transformation across the countryside, while progressive opening-up policies encourage foreign visitors to delve deeper into the nation's heartland. On December 26th , VOC.com.cn premiered the second season of its acclaimed series, I Am in Rural China. The show follows Teona Kvartskhava, an international guest, as she explores the villages of Hunan Province , offering viewers a firsthand look at the dynamic implementation of comprehensive rural revitalization. This captivating series invites a global audience to witness the dawn of a new era in China's rural landscapes, showcasing the country's evolving countryside to viewers worldwide. Rice field came as the first surprise. Hunan is the largest rice grower and producer in China . Hunan provides the high-quality and tasty rice. Teona Kvartskhava, a foreigner hardly feeding on rice, was tempted to have plenty of it. In Qunle Village, Lixian County, Changde, she also experienced "Double Rush", which is a time-honored agricultural event in China . An event that used to call for the joint efforts of all family members, has now become much easier thanks to technology. Departing from Lixian County for the moment, Teona Kvartskhava embarked on an exciting trip of tastes in Rucheng, Chenzhou , Southern Hunan . Hunan people are keen and expert on peppery food and spicy taste dominates the Hunan cuisine. Hunan is also rich in varieties of peppers. Jingpo town, a well-known town where spicy food prevails. It is a producer of red cluster pepper, officially one of the hottest peppers in China . From the crowded market, to the red and yellow pepper planting base, and then to the modern processing pepper workshop, the small cluster pepper strung up all corners of the town, so that the original ordinary mountain town has become extraordinarily lively and affluent. Of course, the "star" of the countryside here is not only agriculture, but also culture, which has also blossomed in this ancient land. As the birthplace of papermaking, China has preserved a unique handmade papermaking technique, which is used to make some "special" papers. In Shanghong Village, Liuyang, Teona Kvartskhava was lucky to meet two Chinese masters, who showed her hands-on experiences of "Gushan Tribute Paper" and "Floral Paper". As the process progresses, the paper took shape in her hands, as if history and culture were meeting in front of her eyes, and became the "first paper" in Teona Kvartskhava's life. So,What's rural China like? It's about hospitable peasants, about various agricultural produce, about profound history and culture, about colorful intangible cultural heritage. It's like a book telling numerous absorbing stories. Hopefully Teona Kvartskhava'll be luckier to visit more villages for their unique interest and charm. The United States on Saturday announced a new $988 million security assistance package for Ukraine as Washington races to provide aid to Kyiv before President-elect Donald Trump takes office. Trump's November election victory has cast doubt on the future of American aid for Ukraine, providing a limited window for billions of dollars in already authorized assistance to be disbursed before he is sworn in next month. The package features drones, ammunition for precision HIMARS rocket launchers, and equipment and spare parts for artillery systems, tanks and armored vehicles, the Pentagon said in a statement. Trump met in Paris earlier Saturday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who said any resolution of the war with Russia should be a "just" settlement that includes "strong security guarantees for Ukraine." The meeting was of huge importance to Zelensky, given fears in Kyiv that Trump may urge Ukraine to make concessions to Moscow. The latest aid will be funded via the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, under which military equipment is procured from the defense industry or partners rather than drawn from American stocks, meaning it will not immediately arrive on the battlefield. It follows a $725 million package announced on Monday that included a second tranche of landmines as well as anti-air and anti-armor weapons. The outgoing administration of President Joe Biden is working to get as much aid as possible to Ukraine before Trump -- who has repeatedly criticized US assistance for Kyiv and claimed he could secure a ceasefire within hours -- takes over. Trump's comments have triggered fears in Kyiv and Europe about the future of US aid, and Ukraine's ability to withstand Russian attacks in the absence of further American support. "Our job has been to try and put Ukraine in the strongest possible position on the battlefield so that it is in the strongest possible position at the negotiating table," National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said Saturday. In the closing weeks of Biden's term, the goal is "a massive surge of assistance and to up the economic pressure on Russia," he said. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Saturday warned that failure to continue opposing Russia's actions would have dire consequences. "We can continue to stand up to the Kremlin. Or we can let (Russian President Vladimir) Putin have his way -- and condemn our children and grandchildren to live in a world of chaos and conflict," said Austin, who like Sullivan was speaking at the Reagan National Defense Forum in California. "This administration has made its choice. And so has a bipartisan coalition in Congress. The next administration must make its own choice." The defense chief also emphasized the importance of US allies and partners in his remarks -- a contrast to Trump's go-it-alone "America first" world view. "Here is the stark military fact: our allies and partners are huge force multipliers," Austin said. "Ultimately, America is weaker when it stands alone. And America is smaller when it stands apart," he said. "There is no such thing as a safe retreat from today's interwoven world." The United States has spearheaded the push for international support for Ukraine, quickly forging a coalition to back Kyiv after Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022 and coordinating aid from dozens of countries. Ukraine's international supporters have since then provided tens of billions of dollars in weapons, ammunition, training and other security aid that has been key to helping Kyiv resist Russian forces. wd/mlm/acbAngela Rayner to ride roughshod over planning laws in bid to meet new homes target and thwart protests by Nimby neighbours

It is believed that these weapons were buried by the Eastern Naga National Government (ENNG) before their surrender last year. “Prior to the operation, security personnel ensured the safe passage of tourists present in Namdapha Reserve Forest for birdwatching,” the official said. Numerous inputs have been received over the past six months regarding attempts by various insurgent groups, particularly the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isak-Muivah) (NSCN-IM) and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khaplang) (NSCN-KYA), with the assistance of former ENNG cadres, to recover this cache.

It was way back in 2013 that Oxford Dictionaries named “selfie” word of the year, but selfie biometrics are all the rage in 2025. New integrations for a number of biometric identity verification providers leverage selfie biometrics for onboarding, background checks, blockchain transactions and preventing cargo theft. ’s Document Reader SDK has been implemented by , the largest commercial bank in Cambodia, to expedite their customer onboarding processes. A release says that, as a result, the bank has achieved a 65 percent reduction in customer acquisition costs and an increase in account opening conversion rate from 7 percent to 12.5 percent. Known for being technology-forward, ABA Bank introduced the country’s first electronic Know Your Customer ( ) product for remote account openings in late 2020, through its ABA Mobile app. The decision to integrate Regula’s capabilities factors in a few challenges ABA faced in optimizing mobile customer onboarding. It based its decision to go with Document Reader SDK on accuracy, speed, pricing and ease of integration (which took only about a month, with support from Regula). The integration allows phones to read MRZ data in Cambodian , which the app was previously unable to do. It eliminates the need for manual checks and the high workload that comes with them. And it makes the process more “customer-centric.” Regula’s fully-automated procedure uses the smartphone’s camera to capture a national ID card or passport. It then assesses image quality, instantly recognizes documents, identifies the data zones and performs a document to make sure it is in the physical possession of the user. Ihar Kliashchou, chief technology officer at Regula, calls the integration and its results thus far “yet another testament to how a robust and reliable process can positively impact business outcomes.” “By partnering with ABA Bank and implementing , we not only enhanced the accuracy and efficiency of their customer onboarding process, but also significantly reduced costs and improved conversion.” A release says , a platform providing employee background checks and authentication, will use ’s biometrics software to verify new candidates and employees, in response to the “growing threat of fraudulent job candidates.” “Hiring fraud is an escalating challenge for employers globally, with AI-driven fake identities and becoming more prevalent,” says Emmanuel Toutain, CEO of TurboCheck, citing 31,200 confirmed cases of employment-identity theft or wage fraud last year. The company selected authID’s product for what it calls an “intuitive identity verification experience” that is fast and accurate, providing “secure candidate vetting and remote onboarding across devices and browsers in a market-leading 700 milliseconds.” IDV is completed by using to match a selfie with a picture from an authenticated ID document. Rhon Daguro, CEO of authID, says his firm is “committed to helping TurboCheck verify candidates with the highest levels of identity trust and privacy protection, while delivering a seamless user experience.” He believes that “biometric identification and will have a transformative impact on the $200B staffing and recruiting industry by effectively streamlining and securing the entire recruitment process.” Erick Soto, chief product officer of authID, says “recruiters who can guarantee that their candidates are properly verified prior to their first interaction with a potential employer will have a considerable advantage in attracting the best candidates for their customers.” ’s advanced ID verification and anti-money laundering (AML) tools are being integrated with the blockchain platform . A release says the strategic partnership aims to establish “a new benchmark for user experience, compliance and fraud prevention in the blockchain sector.” By performing identity verification with in under 30 seconds, Sumsub’s tech speeds up the onboarding process, improves transaction monitoring and enhances fraud prevention. “Regulatory challenges in the blockchain industry” are cited as a motivating factor for the partnership. With blockchain platforms growing in popularity, Darkex notes the growing need for mechanisms and transaction monitoring tools that can establish a baseline of trust in digital transactions. Sumsub’s tools align Darkex with global regulatory requirements, maintaining full compliance with international standards set by FATF, FCA, CySEC and others. Likewise, UX played a role: streamlined onboarding means less friction, so the tool meets “both regulatory and user expectations.” Biometric identity verification from has been implemented by FreightValidate, a prominent verification platform for the freight industry aimed at reducing cargo theft incidents. A press release says “the freight industry has been grappling with an unprecedented surge in fraud, with cargo theft a primary concern. Fraudulent carriers often impersonate legitimate ones, leading to stolen or ransomed freight. To combat the problem – estimated to cost the U.S. economy up to $35 billion annually – Au10tix’s system enables real-time biometric and document verification paired with AI-driven . It promises to deliver a “significant reduction” in cargo theft incidents, faster and more efficient verification processes, better security and “substantial cost savings.” “Our solutions are designed to combat fraud and enhance security across industries, and we look forward to helping FreightValidate achieve their goals,” says Dan Yerushalmi, CEO of Au10tix. “By leveraging our , FreightValidate will not just be preventing theft – they’re redefining operational efficiency and building trust in the freight sector.” | | | | | | |President-elect Donald Trump’s lawyers urge judge to toss his hush money conviction
Angela Rayner to ride roughshod over planning laws in bid to meet new homes target and thwart protests by Nimby neighbours By ANNA MIKHAILOVA Published: 23:32, 7 December 2024 | Updated: 23:53, 7 December 2024 e-mail View comments House-builders will swerve scrutiny by local council planning committees in a government bid to thwart protests by Nimby neighbours and fast-track new homes. Deputy Premier Angela Rayner will on Thursday announce an overhaul of planning rules to let developers ‘skip’ a stage in the process and foil Nimbys, the acronym for ‘Not In My Back Yard’. However, critics fear this means residents will not be able to have their objections represented. Ms Rayner said: ‘Building more homes and infrastructure across the country means unblocking the clogged-up planning system that serves as a chokehold on growth. ‘The government will deliver a sweeping overhaul of the creaking local planning committee system. ‘Streamlining the approvals process by modernising local planning committees means tackling the chronic uncertainty and damaging delays that act as a drag anchor on building the homes that people desperately need.’ Under the scheme, applications that comply with local development criteria for how many homes need to be built will bypass planning committees entirely. Those applications will go straight to planning officers, who will look at technical details including whether they comply with building safety regulations. The planning process reforms, which will be put to consultation, are designed to ‘tackle unacceptable delays and unnecessary wasting of time and resources’. The source added that planning committees are ‘councillors acting in a representative capacity’ and can significantly delay the process. Last week Sir Keir Starmer slated ‘blockers and bureaucrats who have stopped the country building, choked off growth and driven prices through the roof’. But Labour-run councils said they were on a ‘collision course’ with the government over the plans. Councillor Yvonne Gagen, leader of West Lancashire Council, called the targets ‘impossible’. Dr Victoria Hills, chief executive of the Royal Town Planning Institute, said: ‘By empowering qualified planners to implement planning policies, councillors will have the time to focus on more significant cases, effectively speeding up the planning process. Thursday, December 19, 2024 JFK Millennium Partners (JMP), selected by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ) to develop and operate the new Terminal 6 (T6) at John F. Kennedy International Airport, has issued a request for proposals (RFP) to procure a future all-electric fleet of ground support equipment (GSE). This initiative aligns with the terminal’s sustainability goals and is set to support T6 airlines and other partners when the state-of-the-art terminal opens in early 2026. Terminal 6 is a cornerstone of PANYNJ’s $19 billion transformation of JFK Airport into a world-class aviation gateway. This comprehensive overhaul includes the addition of two new terminals, upgrades to existing facilities, a modern ground transportation center, and a streamlined roadway network. JMP’s RFP invites vendors to provide electric-powered GSE currently available in the market, including essential equipment such as pushback units (both conventional and towbarless), baggage tugs, belt loaders, K-loaders, stair trucks, and more. Proposals must include charging infrastructure, maintenance, and repair services. The chosen provider will collaborate with JMP to design and implement charging infrastructure across T6’s designated areas. This shared all-electric fleet is integral to T6’s broader commitment to sustainability, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and eliminate reliance on fossil fuels throughout the terminal. Key environmental features at T6 include high-efficiency building systems, over 6,000 solar panels for renewable energy generation, stormwater capture and reuse systems, and a robust recycling program that diverts 90% of construction and operational waste, including asphalt, concrete, and steel. These efforts align with JMP’s objective to secure LEED* and ENVISION Gold certifications, recognized benchmarks for sustainable infrastructure. The all-electric GSE initiative also supports PANYNJ’s Net Zero Roadmap, a comprehensive plan to achieve agency-wide greenhouse gas emission reductions by 2050. This roadmap encompasses electric vehicle fleets, solar energy production, building decarbonization, and sustainable construction practices. Terminal 6 represents a significant leap toward a greener future for JFK Airport, setting a new standard for sustainability in global aviation. “Our fully-electric T6 ground fleet will play a critical role in our quest to deliver an outstanding new terminal that is sustainable by design, operationally efficient and makes use of all the latest technologies to help us exceed our sustainability goals,” said Steve Thody, CEO, JFK Millennium Partners. “We are excited to launch this RFP for an electric fleet of ground support equipment that will best serve our T6 airline partners, passengers, our airport community, and our planet for many years to come,” said Karen Ali, COO, JFK Millennium Partners. “We look forward to working with our future partner to create this new standard of operational excellence at JFK,” Ali added. In 2022, the Port Authority introduced the Zero-Emission Airside Vehicle (ZEAV) rule, mandating the transition to zero-emission ground service equipment (GSE) at the region’s three major airports. The rule requires the majority of the GSE fleet to achieve zero-emission status by 2030. To facilitate this transition, the Port Authority is providing charging infrastructure, ensuring GSE charging capabilities at all new gates, and collaborating with tenants on infrastructure planning. Interested parties wishing to participate in the electric ground support equipment RFP can contact the JMP procurement team for a copy of the RFP and additional details. The deadline for proposal submissions is January 17, 2025, and JMP anticipates selecting a provider by the first quarter of 2025.Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou attended the EU Council of Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Ministers of the European Union, which took place in Brussels on Friday. Papastergiou stressed in his speech that in addition to the measures to be taken by each state, EU member states must jointly take initiatives to force major digital platforms and social media to stop targeting user addiction.Papastergiou cited as an example at European level the Digital Services Act (DSA), which includes specific provisions for the protection of minors and explicitly addresses the problem of addictive design. As he said "soon in Greece we will present the National Strategy for the protection of minors from algorithmic addiction. Social media and digital platforms must come to the table and show that they will take tangible, measurable actions to prioritise safety over profit. The design of their apps and services should be age-appropriate," he said, referring to the implementation of age verification and age assurance tools, age verification. Referring to other Council issues, Papastergiou stressed the need to adjust the objectives of the "Digital Decade" and targeted funding due to the rapid development of technologies such as 6G, Artificial Intelligence and cloud computing. He also referred to the European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIH) and the usefulness of extending upgrade and retraining programmes for ICT professionals. He made particular reference to the role of ENISA (the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity) in improving common situational awareness and management of large-scale cyber incidents and crises in the EU, as well as the European Digital Infrastructure Consortium (EDIC). In the margins of the Council, the Minister had an introductory meeting with the new Executive Vice President of the European Commission Henna Virkkunen. He also had bilateral contacts with ministers.
