The Georgia Bulldogs have made a major announcement about the status of quarterback Carson Beck for the College Football Playoff. Georgia said in a statement that Beck underwent surgery to repair a torn UCL in his right elbow. He will not return this season and is expected to begin throwing again next spring. Carson Beck is officially out for the season. pic.twitter.com/tASTgEIXen — Stewart Mandel (@slmandel) December 23, 2024 This is simply Tommy John surgery, albeit on a football player. The surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who is also the go-to surgeon for top pitchers who undergo the procedure. While unfortunate, Beck being out for the College Football Playoff will not come as a huge surprise. The Bulldogs had sounded pessimistic about his outlook after he was injured just before halftime in the SEC Championship ( video here ). He would return to that game briefly in overtime, but only to hand the ball off on the game-winning run by Trevor Etienne. Gunner Stockton will get the nod at quarterback for the Bulldogs in their CFP contest against Notre Dame on New Year’s Day. He went 12/16 for 71 yards with an interception in the SEC Championship after replacing Beck. This article first appeared on Larry Brown Sports and was syndicated with permission.ebet sport betting

Vegas mom arrested 'after giving son's underage friend eight shots then raping him' By LAUREN ACTON-TAYLOR FOR DAILYMAIL.COM Published: 22:13, 11 December 2024 | Updated: 22:17, 11 December 2024 e-mail 16 shares 13 View comments A mother accused of plying her teenage son's underage friend with shots of alcohol before sexually assaulting him was arrested in Las Vegas after nearly a year on the run. Christina Cobb, 42, was discovered by police on November 28 after using a California ID and social security number for an individual named Olga. She had four outstanding warrants for her arrest in connection with two separate cases after she didn't show up for her court appearance in January. Cobb now faces an additional charge for obtaining or using personal identification of another person to avoid or delay being prosecuted for an unlawful act. She was accused of providing alcohol and marijuana to her son and his friends at a birthday party at her house in May 2022. A month later, she was charged with two counts of statutory sexual seduction and one count of lewdness with a child under the age of 16. The alleged victim said that he had been provided alcohol and was 'allowed' to 'sleep in her bed,' according to Las Vegas Police, as reported by 8 News Now . The teen told police he suspected he had eight shots and 'felt drunk' before Cobb sexually assaulted him. The age of consent in Nevada is 16 years old. It's alleged that Cobb told the teen victim to leave her bed before her husband came home, according to police reports. 'She's considered a danger to the community based on the charges - the inappropriate relations, sexual relations, with a child,' said Supervisory Deputy US Marshal Ray Venegas. Christina Cobb, 41, has two warrants for her arrest. In June 2022, she was charged with two counts of statutory sexual seduction and one count of lewdness with a child under the age of 16 She was arrested again in August of the same year for allegedly swinging a crowbar at a teenage family member, fighting with him and lying to police about the incident Her bail was set at $20,000 which she posted in February of 2023. She was arrested again in August of 2023 for allegedly swinging a crowbar at a teenage family member, fighting with him and lying to police about the incident. Cobb was charged with two felony charges of assault with the use of a deadly weapon and child abuse or neglect. A Las Vegas judge ordered Cobb be released from jail on September 5 after no criminal complaint was filed for her case, and she was released on September 16. Venegas said he believed she has no contact with her teenage son and no family connections outside of Las Vegas. A preliminary hearing for the new charge is scheduled for December 17 and another preliminary hearing for the second case is scheduled for December 16. (AP) — Tampa Bay's surest path to the NFL playoffs is a division championship. The Buccaneers will need help to repeat in the NFC South , but only if they first and foremost give themselves a chance. That means winning their remaining games at home against Carolina and New Orleans, while the Atlanta Falcons lose at least once in the final two weeks of the regular season. The Bucs (8-7) and Falcons share the best record in the division, however Atlanta holds the tiebreaker after sweeping the season series between the teams. Tampa Bay, which has won three consecutive division titles, is the only NFC team that has made the playoffs each of the past four seasons. “We’ve got to take care of business or else we’ve got no shot,” quarterback Baker Mayfield said after a 26-24 loss at Dallas cost the Bucs control of the NFC South race. “This one, we've got to take it on the chin,” Mayfield added. “It's a short week. It's Christmas week. We've got to focus on Carolina and figure out a way to win.” If Atlanta is able to maintain its lead, Tampa Bay could make the postseason as a wild card if the Bucs win out and the Commanders lose twice. Coach Todd Bowles sounds confident that his players understand the challenge ahead and will clean up mistakes that contributed to the end of their four-game win streak. “We’ve got to win a ballgame (this week). If we don’t win a ballgame, we don’t give ourselves a chance,” Bowles said Monday. “We have to focus on us like we’ve been doing,” the coach added. “We have to correct the mistakes, and we have to go out and win Sunday, and we’ve got to win the next week, and then we’ll see what happens after that.” The offense, which ranks third in the NFL at 389.8 yards per game, isn't a fluke. Despite losing to the Cowboys, Tampa Bay finished with 410 yards total offense. It was the team's fifth straight game — as well as an NFL-high ninth overall — with 400-plus yards. The Bucs are seventh in rushing (143.7 yards per game) after ranking 32nd each of the past two seasons. The defense yielded 292 yards passing against the Cowboys, 226 of it in the first half when Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb had six catches for 100 yards and a touchdown. Bowles said shoddy tackling was the biggest issue — not poor coverage. Lamb had one reception for 5 yards after halftime. Mayfield's chemistry with rookie WR Jalen McMillan, who has 27 receptions for 336 yards and five TDs, continues to grow. McMillan had five catches for 57 yards and a touchdown — his fourth in the past three games — against Dallas. He was also the intended receiver on Mayfield's deep throw that CB Jourdan Lewis intercepted in the end zone to help the Cowboys hold off the Bucs in the closing minutes. Turnovers were costly against Dallas. The end-zone interception stopped the Bucs from cutting into a 26-17 deficit with 6:22 remaining in the fourth quarter. Rachaad White's fumble with 1:31 left ended any hope for a last-minute victory. On both plays, defenders ripped the ball out of the grasp of the offensive player. “We knew they were going to rake at the ball going into the ballgame," Bowles said. "We just have to have two hands on the ball, and we have to fight for it. We have to take better care of the football. That’s priority No. 1.” Bowles said it's too early to project the status of several starters for coming games, including S Antoine Winfield Jr. (knee), who has missed the past two games. TE Cade Otton (knee) and LB K.J. Britt (ankle) were inactive against the Cowboys, while reserve WR Sterling Shepard left during the game with a hamstring injury. 80. Bucky Irving leads all NFL rookie RBs with 920 yards rushing. He needs 80 over the next two games to reach 1,000. He scored his seventh rushing touchdown against Dallas. That tied Errict Rhett and Lars Tate for the second-most rushing TDs by a rookie running back in franchise history. Doug Martin set the record of 11 in 2012. Host Carolina on Sunday. Donald Trump used his image as a successful New York businessman to become a celebrity, a reality television star and eventually the president. Now he will get to revel in one of the most visible symbols of success in the city when he rings the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday as he's also named Time Magazine's Person of the Year. Trump is expected to be on Wall Street to mark the ceremonial start of the day's trading, according to four people with knowledge of his plans. He will also be announced Thursday as Time's 2024 Person of the Year, according to a person familiar with the selection. The people who confirmed the stock exchange appearance and Time award were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. It will be a notable moment of twin recognitions for Trump, a born-and-bred New Yorker who at times has treated the stock market as a measure of public approval and has long-prized signifiers of his success in New York's business world and his appearances on the covers of magazines — especially Time. Trump was named the magazine's Person of the Year in 2016, when he was first elected to the White House. He had already been listed as a finalist for this year's award alongside Vice President Kamala Harris, X owner Elon Musk, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Kate, the Princess of Wales. Time declined to confirm the selection ahead of Thursday morning's announcement. “Time does not comment on its annual choice for Person of the Year prior to publication,” a spokesperson for the magazine said Wednesday. The ringing of the bell is a powerful symbol of U.S. capitalism — and a good New York photo opportunity at that. Despite his decades as a New York businessman, Trump has never done it before. It was unclear whether Trump, a Republican, would meet with New York's embattled mayor, Democrat Eric Adams, who has warmed to Trump and has not ruled out changing his political party. Adams has been charged with federal corruption crimes and accused of selling influence to foreign nationals; he has denied wrongdoing. Trump himself was once a symbol of New York, but he gave up living full-time in his namesake Trump Tower in Manhattan and moved to Florida after leaving the White House. CNN first reported Wednesday Trump’s visit to the stock exchange and Politico reported that Trump was expected to be unveiled as Time's Person of the Year. The stock exchange regularly invites celebrities and business leaders to participate in the ceremonial opening and closing of trading. During Trump’s first term, his wife, Melania Trump, rang the bell to promote her “Be Best” initiative on children’s well-being. Last year, Time CEO Jess Sibley rang the opening bell to unveil the magazine's 2023 Person of the Year: Taylor Swift. After the Nov. 5 election, the S&P 500 rallied 2.5% for its best day in nearly two years. The Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 1,508 points, or 3.6%, while the Nasdaq composite jumped 3%. All three indexes topped records they had set in recent weeks. The U.S. stock market has historically tended to rise regardless of which party wins the White House, with Democrats scoring bigger average gains since 1945. But Republican control could mean big shifts in the winning and losing industries underneath the surface, and investors are adding to bets built earlier on what the higher tariffs, lower tax rates and lighter regulation that Trump favors will mean. Trump has long courted the business community based on his own status as a wealthy real estate developer who gained additional fame as the star of the TV show “The Apprentice” in which competitors tried to impress him with their business skills. He won the election in part by tapping into Americans' deep anxieties about an economy that seemed unable to meet the needs of the middle class. The larger business community has applauded his promises to reduce corporate taxes and cut regulations. But there are also concerns about his stated plans to impose broad tariffs and possibly target companies that he sees as not aligning with his own political interests. Trump spends the bulk of his time at his Florida home but was in New York for weeks this spring during his hush money trial there. He was convicted, but his lawyers are pushing for the case to be thrown out in light of his election. While he spent hours in a Manhattan courthouse every day during his criminal trial, Trump took his presidential campaign to the streets of the heavily Democratic city, holding a rally in the Bronx and popping up at settings for working-class New Yorkers: a bodega, a construction site and a firehouse. Trump returned to the city in September to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at his Manhattan tower and again in the final stretch of the presidential campaign when he held a rally at Madison Square Garden that drew immediate blowback for as speakers made rude and racist insults and incendiary remarks. At the stock exchange, the ringing of the bell has been a tradition since the 1800s. The first guest to do it was a 10-year-old boy named Leonard Ross, in 1956, who won a quiz show answering questions about the stock market. Many times, companies listing on the exchange would ring the bell at 9:30 a.m. to commemorate their initial offerings as trading began. But the appearances have become an important marker of culture and politics -- something that Trump hopes to seize as he’s promised historic levels of economic growth. The anti-apartheid advocate and South African President Nelson Mandela rang the bell, as has Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone with his castmates from the film “The Expendables.” So, too, have the actors Robert Downey Jr. and Jeremy Renner for an “Avengers” movie and the Olympians Michael Phelps and Natalie Coughlin. In 1985, Ronald Reagan became the first sitting U.S. president to ring the bell. “With tax reform and budget control, our economy will be free to expand to its full potential, driving the bears back into permanent hibernation,” Reagan said at the time. “We’re going to turn the bull loose.” The crowd of traders on the floor chanted, “Ronnie! Ronnie! Ronnie!” The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed in 1985 and 1986, but it suffered a decline in October 1987 in an event known as “Black Monday.” Associated Press writer Josh Boak in Washington contributed to this report.Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are the defending champions in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Qatar International Falconry and Hunting Festival (Marmi) has become a landmark in the efforts of the Al Gannas Association to preserve the Qatari and Gulf heritage. The festival aims to preserve the heritage and sentimental values of this sport inherited from fathers and grandfathers, in addition to its importance in the literature of Arab folklore, especially the Gulf and Qatari. Shawi Al Kaabi, chairman of the Hadad Al Tahadi Committee, said that the second day of registration witnessed a large turnout as expected, noting that registration for Hadad Al Tahadi continues until next Thursday evening at the headquarters of the Al Gannas Association in Katara. He added, “Today, we noticed the registration of a number of competitors from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, which shows that we are waiting for strong competition between the owners of falcons and carrier pigeons in the field.” Kaabi stressed that the committee is keen to facilitate all registration procedures, as the registered falcon is inspected in minutes, which makes it easier for participants, calling on participants to arrive early to the association’s headquarters in order to register or complete the registration process for those who did so electronically. Rashid Abdulrahman Al Athba said, “I am happy to register in my favourite championship, and I have participated three times before, and thanks to God, I was one of the winners of the Al-Haddad Award, and today we return again for more competition with a new Shaheen chick that was purchased in preparation for the festival.” For his part, Ali Salem Al Mansoori from the United Arab Emirates said that he is participating in the Marmi Festival for the first time, praising the ease of registration procedures.
