The San Francisco 49ers are dealing with injuries in the secondary, which have influenced a roster move ahead of their Week 13 primetime matchup with the Buffalo Bills. San Francisco on Saturday promoted cornerback Nick McCloud to the active roster. McCloud takes the place of wide receiver Ronnie Bell, who was waived on Friday. He does so amid injuries to Deommodore Lenoir and Renardo Green, the former ruled out with a knee injury while rookie Green is questionable with a neck injury. Meanwhile, the 49ers have elevated linebacker Jalen Graham and offensive tackle Sebastian Gutierrez to their gameday roster for the Bills clash. Graham's elevation comes with Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles (knee) ruled out for the Bills game, while Gutierrez gives the Niners extra depth at tackle amid Trent Williams' absence for a second successive game. It means Gutierrez is in line to feature in only his second NFL game, having made his debut for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022. (AP) — Luis Suarez is going to play alongside Lionel Messi for at least one more year. Suarez and Inter Miami have agreed on a one-year contract extension for the coming season, the team announced Wednesday. The financial terms weren’t disclosed. Suarez made $1.5 million this year in his first Inter Miami season, one in which the Uruguayan striker scored 20 goals — tied with Messi for the team lead — in Major League Soccer regular season play and a team-best 25 goals across all competitions. “I’m very happy, very excited to continue for another year and to be able to enjoy being here with this fanbase, which for us is like family,” Suarez said in comments distributed by the team. “We feel very, very connected with them, and hopefully, next year, we can bring them even more joy.” Inter Miami set MLS records for points (74) and winning percentage (.765) during this MLS regular season, one in which the club went 22-4-8 and captured the Supporters Shield. The club failed to get out of the first round of the playoffs, falling to Atlanta United in the best-of-three series. The contract extension for Suarez, who turns 38 in January, keeps the Inter Miami core of stars with Barcelona ties together. Suarez plays at Inter Miami alongside Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, a group that teamed up with the powerhouse Spanish club in past years. And newly named Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano — his hiring was made official on Tuesday — also played with that foursome at Barcelona. Jimmy Carter, the 39th US president, has died at 100Annual Christmas Kettle Campaign aims to raise $650,000 this holiday season

Loo-less town's battle illustrates national problemCanadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrived in Florida on Friday for a dinner with Donald Trump at the president-elect’s Mar-a-Lago estate, as the incoming US leader promised tariffs on Canadian imports. A smiling Trudeau was seen exiting a hotel in West Palm Beach before rolling out in a motorcade later seen by media to be entering Mar-a-Lago. Flight trackers had first spotted a jet broadcasting the prime minister’s callsign en route to the southern US state in an unannounced visit. A Canadian government official later told AFP that the two leaders were dining together. The trip comes after Trump sent shockwaves across Canada when he announced pending import tariffs against neighbors Canada and Mexico, and also rival China, in social media posts on Monday. More than three-quarters of Canadian exports, or Can$592.7 billion ($423 billion), went to the United States last year, and nearly two million Canadian jobs are dependent on trade. A Canadian government source told AFP that Canada is considering possible retaliatory tariffs against the United States. According to the website Flightradar, the Canadian leader’s plane landed at Palm Beach International Airport late in the afternoon. Canadian public broadcaster CBC said that Trudeau’s public safety minister, Dominic LeBlanc was accompanying him on the trip. Some have suggested Trump’s tariff threat may be bluster, or an opening salvo in future trade negotiations. But Trudeau rejected those views when he spoke with reporters earlier in Prince Edward Island province. “Donald Trump, when he makes statements like that, he plans on carrying them out,” Trudeau said. “There’s no question about it.” (AFP) Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment.

A huge brawl broke out at the London Stadium during the first half of Arsenal's win over West Ham on Saturday. The Gunners raced into a 4-0 lead over the Hammers before the hosts scored two quick goals of their own to get back into the game. Bukayo Saka scored a penalty at the end of the first half to cap off a crazy opening 45 minutes . The second half petered out somewhat, with neither side adding to their tally. But the game was marred by a huge brawl breaking out in the West Ham end after their side fell four goals down. Footage taken from the home end shows a group of fans getting into a heated argument. A punch appears to have been thrown by one man towards the face of another, with the victim responding by rushing towards his attacker and hitting back. He is then held back by other fans after the other supporter fell to the ground. Another person was seen trying to hit the man on the back of the head as he was being held back. Stewards quickly arrived and ushered people away from the area. After he was escorted away, fans can be heard commenting that the person who threw the first punch appeared to have been "knocked out". It is unclear what sparked the brawl in the first place, with West Ham condemning the actions of the people involved. A Hammers spokesperson told The Sun : "The club is aware of the incident and will be working to identify the offender(s). "In line with our zero-tolerance approach, anyone identified will have their details passed to the police and will be given an indefinite ban and therefore be unable to enter London Stadium and travel with the club. There is no place for this kind of behaviour at our Stadium." While his side's fans were fighting, West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui admitted it had been a difficult day. But he insisted that they had been hard done by by several refereeing decisions. "Overall, I am frustrated in the first half. We deserved two goals, but they didn't deserve five. We were unlucky in the decisions, in my opinion. The first goal I think it was a block," Lopetegui told Match of the Day. "We have to do better for sure. We didn't take good decisions in a defensive way - that's why it was a strange match. The team showed character to compete. We were unlucky with the decisions today. "We asked before the match, the referee with the block, as a coach we have to know the limit. This week we have to do better in our individual actions in a defensive way. It is always difficult to not stay on the bench because you can't help the team and I was very frustrated." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Unrivaled, the new 3-on-3 women's basketball league launching this winter, signed LSU star guard Flau'jae Johnson to a name, image and likeness deal. Johnson is the second college player to ink an agreement with Unrivaled, following UConn's Paige Bueckers. They won't be participating in the upcoming inaugural season, but Johnson and Bueckers will have equity stakes in the league. Unrivaled dropped a video on social media Thursday showing Johnson -- who also has a burgeoning rap career -- performing a song while wearing a shirt that reads, "The Future is Unrivaled." The deal will see Johnson create additional promotional content for the league. Johnson, 21, was a freshman on the LSU team that won the 2023 national championship. Now in her junior year, Johnson is averaging career highs of 22.2 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game through 10 games for the No. 5 Tigers (10-0). She ranks eighth in Division I in scoring. Johnson has career averages of 14.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game in 82 career appearances (80 starts) for LSU. --Field Level Media
