The United States Postal Service might have found a way to unite a nation bitterly divided after this month's election: It will release a Betty White stamp. The beloved actor known for roles in "The Golden Girls," "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "Boston Legal" and others will be on a 2025 Forever stamp, USPS announced this past week. White died in late December 2021 , less than three weeks before her 100th birthday. The Postal Service hasn't announced a release date for the stamp. "I'd love to send a letter back to my 18-year-old self with this stamp on it and tell him that everything is going to be OK," Stephanos posted on Facebook . Regardless of personal politics, self-proclaimed supporters of Republican President-elect Donald Trump and Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris reacted with delight on social media. "Betty White was my hero, all of my life! I actually had a doll when I was a little girl I named Betty White," one Trump supporter posted on X , formerly Twitter. “Something to make this awful week a little better: We’re getting a Betty White stamp,” a pro-Harris X account posted. Snowfall is occurring in all three hill states, due to which cold winds can increase the cold across the country. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has predicted that North India may experience colder than normal temperatures in the month of December-January due to the effect of La Nina. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has released the latest weather update till November 28. Let us know how will the weather be across the country this week? When will the cyclone come? According to the Meteorological Department report, the upper air cyclonic circulation is active over the eastern equatorial Indian Ocean and the adjoining South Andaman, which extends to the middle troposphere of the ocean. Due to its effect, a low pressure area is likely to form. On November 23, it is likely to move west-northwest towards the southeast Bay of Bengal. During the next 2 days, a pressure area will form in the central parts of the South Bay of Bengal. A trough line is formed by the cyclonic circulation over the eastern equatorial Indian Ocean and the adjoining south. A western disturbance has become active due to the inclination of winds towards the south with height in the lower and middle troposphere level from the Andaman Sea to the Gulf of Mannar. Due to its effect, stormy winds will blow in the coastal states and there is a warning of heavy rain. Clouds will rain in these states According to the Meteorological Department report, from today till November 28, there will be light to moderate rain in the states of South India and Northeast India. There may be rain with thunder and lightning at some places. There is a possibility of rain in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Andaman Nicobar Islands, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. There may also be rain at some places in Yanam, Mahe, Karaikal. Due to the effect of cyclonic storm, winds are likely to blow at a speed of 35 kmph to 45 kmph and gusts up to 55 kmph. Fishermen are appealed to avoid going to Comorin area and Gulf of Mannar, South East Bay of Bengal, South Andaman Sea, North Andaman Sea, South West Bay of Bengal, Sri Lanka coast and Tamil Nadu coast. Fog will prevail in these states including Delhi According to the report of the Meteorological Department, the weather will remain dry in North India till November 30. Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh will have dense fog in the morning and evening. ASX stocks have been strong performers in 2024. The good news is that Bell Potter still sees opportunities at this side of the market for investors in 2025. The broker notes that it has a "positive or constructive view on the outlook for the technology and gaming sector." This is due to "the generally strong or above average forecast revenue and/or earnings growth" and "the easing interest rate environment which is expected to commence in Australia next year." But given that large cap tech stocks have rallied this year, the broker suspects that the cuts "could have a more positive impact on small to mid cap tech and gaming stocks." With that in mind, let's look at three mid cap ASX tech stocks that are its best buys for the year ahead: ( ) This location technology company's shares are a best buy according to Bell Potter. It likes the ASX tech stock due to its huge growth opportunity, which is being underpinned by the monetisation of its massive user base. It explains: The [Life360] app is used globally by over 75 million people and, of these, there are around 7 million paying subscribers. The penetration rate, therefore, is around 10% and the company has a stated long term target of 30% so there is the potential for the paying subscriber base to triple from here. Life360 is also adding new verticals – like advertising, pet and elderly tracking – which provide additional areas of growth. The next potential catalysts are when Life360 releases its Q4/2024 result in February – we expect a strong result towards the upper end of the guidance ranges – and the S&P/ASX index rebalance in March where we see a good chance Life360 will be added to the Top 100. Bell Potter has a buy rating and $26.75 price target on its shares. ( ) Another ASX tech stock that gets the thumbs up from the broker is gaming technology company Light & Wonder. Bell Potter believes that recent weakness has created an opportunity for investors to buy into a high quality company. It said: Light & Wonder is a leading cross-platform games company that develops and manufactures slot machines, creates free-to-play social casino games for mobile platforms, and produces online real-money gaming content for online casinos. [...] We anticipate 8-11% annual EBITDA growth rates over CY24-26, driven by further R&D investment that enhances game performance and results in market share gains across the North American premium leased market, global outright game sales markets, and online gaming markets. Additionally, we view the recent turmoil surrounding the Dragon Train preliminary injunction as an attractive entry point. Bell Potter has a buy rating and $180.00 price target on its shares. ( ) A final ASX tech stock that makes the list is Gentrack. It provides billing, CRM, and utilities software. An example of its software that many readers will have seen is the arrivals/departures board at Sydney Airport. The broker believes that the company is well-positioned to deliver strong earnings growth in the coming years. It said: Gentrack develops, provisions, and integrates its billing/CRM platform into energy and water utilities, generating up-front project revenue (from deployments/integrations) that transitions into SaaS-type recurring revenue and embeds GTK within utility tech stacks long-term due to high switching costs. Demand for modern-day utilities billing solutions is growing rapidly due to dual tailwinds in (1) an evolving energy grid generating significant amounts of data and complexity in billing and customer management, and (2) legacy tech debt incurred from historical underinvestment in the utility billing stack. GTK has a track record of upgrading and beating guidance, with the interim result in May likely to be the next catalyst potentially from lumpy, large contract wins in Southeast Asia. GTK appears expensive at ~90x/~56x FY25e/26e P/E however the valuation reflects high earnings leverage emerging, noting PEG ratios of ~1.2x and ~0.9x respectively. Bell Potter has a buy rating and $13.90 price target on its sharesThe Mets were busy in the weeks leading up to their , but it had been oddly quiet in Queens since Soto’s momentous introductory news conference on Dec. 12. That finally changed this week, with reports that the Mets have to keep left-handed pitcher Sean Manaea in Queens following a terrific, breakout campaign for the 32-year-old southpaw. Beyond their pursuit of Soto, one of the biggest storylines for the Mets entering this winter was how they would rebuild their rotation. In Manaea, Luis Severino and Jose Quintana, New York had its three top starters from 2024 hitting free agency at the same time. In response, the Mets first signed right-hander Frankie Montas to a two-year, $34 million deal. Then, not long after Severino inked a surprising, three-year deal to lead the A’s rotation as the franchise transitions to Sacramento, the Mets signed a second starting pitcher — and not one that many expected. Clay Holmes, the recent bullpen standout for the Yankees, agreed to a three-year, $38 million deal with the Mets and will attempt to transition back to a starting role he has not occupied since his rookie year with Pittsburgh in 2018. Montas and Holmes represented two intriguing steps toward assembling a new rotation, as both came with considerable questions based on their recent performance and roles. But their signings appeared to be a vote of confidence in the club’s pitching development infrastructure, which has begun to prove its mettle with the successes of Severino and Manaea, among others. The starting pitching market . But as a tidal wave of big contracts and blockbuster trades involving front-end arms came and went, Manaea remained unsigned. Meanwhile, having added Montas, Holmes and another depth piece in Griffin Canning, the new Mets rotation had started to take shape. Add an effective holdover in lefty David Peterson and, perhaps most importantly, a hopefully healthy Kodai Senga, and the Mets appeared to have the foundation for a solid starting staff. But for a club with World Series aspirations — and one that just gave $765 million to Soto — it felt light. Manaea changes that. The true upside for this staff still hinges largely on Senga’s durability, as he offers the most impactful potential. But Manaea solidifies the middle of New York’s rotation and helps balance out the questions present in Montas’ and Holmes’ profiles. And with top pitching prospect Brandon Sproat potentially knocking on the door in 2025, the Mets also have a healthy amount of depth in case of injury or underperformance. Manaea’s massive deal to stay in Queens is another pivotal plot point in a major-league career that has spanned both coasts but began in the heartland. Relatively unknown to scouts as a high schooler growing up in a small town in northwest Indiana, Manaea stayed close to home for his collegiate career, heading to Terre Haute to play for a strong Indiana State program. He won a rotation job as a freshman and broke onto the national radar with an even bigger sophomore season in 2012. The buzz in scouting circles built further that summer, when Manaea was spectacular pitching in the prestigious Cape Cod League, skyrocketing his prospect stock to the point that he entered the following spring as a legitimate candidate to be the first overall pick in the 2013 MLB Draft. Injuries limited Manaea’s velocity and consistency as a junior. While his supreme talent still enabled a sterling 1.47 ERA against mid-major competition, teams became wary of investing in the breakout southpaw at the very top of the draft. As a result, Manaea fell to Kansas City with the 34th pick. The Royals demonstrated their belief in his potential by giving him a $3.55 million signing bonus, figure awarded to any player in the 2013 draft. Just two years later, Manaea was traded to the A’s as the primary prize in the return for Ben Zobrist, who helped the Royals win the World Series later that same year. In Oakland, Manaea established himself as a reliable big-league starting pitcher, with his brightest moment coming in 2018, when he against the Red Sox. Following a stellar 2021 campaign in which he amassed 191 strikeouts over 32 starts, Manaea was the fourth and final major piece dealt during Oakland’s dramatic roster teardown entering the 2022 season. Not long after Chris Bassitt was traded to the Mets, Matt Olson to the Braves and Matt Chapman to the Blue Jays, Manaea was sent to the Padres. Joining an ascendent Padres club seemed to offer a big stage on which Manaea could thrive in the final year of his contract before free agency. Instead, the left-hander took a sizable step back in San Diego. His 4.96 ERA in 2022 ranked 59th out of 62 pitchers who tossed at least 150 innings. He failed to crack the Padres’ playoff rotation and was blasted by the Phillies in a disastrous relief appearance Rather than hitting the open market as a premier rotation option, as previously projected, Manaea entered free agency on a far less optimistic note. He remained on the West Coast, signing a two-year, $25 million deal with the Giants in hopes of reestablishing his value. And though he bounced back and forth between the rotation and the bullpen in San Francisco, Manaea pitched well enough to opt out after 2023 and test the free-agent waters again. This time, an East Coast club came calling: the Mets, in need of rotation reinforcements, offered him a two-year-with-an-opt-out pact similar to the one he signed with San Francisco, this time for $28 million. And in Queens, Manaea flourished. On a delightful 2024 Mets club that had no shortage of lovable characters, Manaea was a fundamental part of the team’s success both on and off the field. The key turning point for him individually came in late July, when he watched eventual NL Cy Young winner Chris Sale dominate at Citi Field and in hopes of roughly replicating the challenging arm angle that Sale has long featured. Having long succeeded on the basis of deception and careful command of his arsenal, more so than overpowering opponents, this adjustment took Manaea’s funk to a whole new level. He had been solid over the first four months of the 2024 season, but this mechanical tweak, in conjunction with his leaning heavier into his sinker usage, unlocked a different version of him down the stretch. In Manaea’s next outing and first with his lower arm slot, he struck out 11 Minnesota Twins across seven scoreless innings in his best start of the season. The splits are stark: 20 starts before dropping his arm slot: 106 IP, 3.74 ERA, 4.18 FIP, 22.6% strikeout rate, 10.1% walk rate, .671 OPS allowed 12 starts after: 75 2/3 IP, 3.09 ERA, 3.35 FIP, 28.4% strikeout rate, 6.2% walk rate, .538 OPS allowed This new-and-improved Manaea sustained into October, with the grand finale of his breakout coming in NLDS Game 3, when he blanked the Phillies for seven frames before departing to a raucous Citi Field in the top of the eighth. He also showed well in a win over the Dodgers in NLCS Game 2 before faltering in his second run-in with the eventual champs in Game 6. By that point, though, Manaea had earned the trust and adoration of the Mets faithful. With his fantastic season ensuring he would opt out and become a free agent for the third straight winter, it was no guarantee that he would find his way back to the Mets. In the end, a reunion was in store. The Mets' chapter of Manaea’s career will not be a one-year fling. As for the rest of this winter, maybe the Mets have another big rotation addition in store; Corbin Burnes is still out there, after all, and Steve Cohen’s spending power remains more formidable than that of any other team owner. The trade market is still active, with ace-level arms such as Luis Castillo and Dylan Cease reportedly available for the right price. More likely, the next stage of the Mets’ winter will shift the focus back to their position-player group. That starts first and foremost with free agent Pete Alonso, whose potential landing spots seem to diminish by the day, given the recent flurry of transactions involving first basemen. Pairing one of the best hitters on the planet in Soto with another MVP candidate in Francisco Lindor makes the top of the Mets’ lineup as dangerous as any. Rising slugger Mark Vientos and franchise staple Brandon Nimmo represent stellar bats as well. Beyond those four, though, questions remain regarding the potency of the lineup as currently constituted — especially if Alonso lands elsewhere. As important as retaining Manaea was, weighing whether or not to keep Alonso in Queens looms as a far more consequential decision.

Every so often, small business owners south of Sydney begin their day cleaning up human faeces. or signup to continue reading It's an odorous reminder of Port Kembla's dire need for a main street public toilet. "It's a fairly regular basis," local chamber of commerce president Greg Rodgers tells AAP. "When businesses are asking me how things are progressing with getting a toilet, they say they're having ongoing issues, sometimes multiple times a week - people urinating, defecating in the public areas." Those desperate for relief can ask the pub or restaurants - or walk two kilometres to the beach if it's both daylight and surf lifesaving season. But it's hardly an option for all abilities or all hours, hampering dozens of new businesses and families helping revive the industrial town. "Are people going to say 'we'll check out this new area - shame, I have to pee in the park'?" Mr Rodgers wonders. The six-year battle for a public loo in Port Kembla illustrates Australia's inconsistent lavatory landscape, with accessibility, safety and availability varying widely. Standards do not address existing social norms - such as parenting and gender - nor are they able to reflect the gamut of human experience, or even respond to the variety of wheelchair users, . Standards also do not apply to existing buildings, leaving people resorting to dank decades-old facilities or holding on in hope of something better down the road. "With very few exceptions, they're not very well designed," design expert Christian Tietz tells AAP. "The general look and feel is really one of bare necessity and extremely function focused. "It's really sort of addressing the lowest common denominator." But it shouldn't be so, the senior lecturer in UNSW's Faculty of the Built Environment says. Toilets set the tone for public behaviour, expectations and conduct, he says. Facilities that show respect and offer an opportunity to refresh and revive will result in people carrying that through their other interactions with a town. "But if I go in somewhere and it's got blue lighting, it doesn't work, and I feel like I'm being treated like a criminal ... then that sets the tone for that locality and I come out feeling accordingly," Dr Tietz says "The toilet is a place where you can make an impression - it's also place where we are more or less equal, right?" He rejects counter arguments based on cost and vandalism, saying loos could be durable, highly frequented and visually appealing. Australia's could be even more, with power points to charge phones, benches to rest and external wash basins for non-toileting matters such as rinsing fruit. Increasing interaction with the facilities would also promote personal safety, he said. Dr Tietz's recognition that loos can be more than just places for ones and twos is well supported. Visionary architects in one Tokyo district recently led the , resulting in rooms shaped like a spacecraft and another like a squid in a wider octopus park. Sydney's Inner City Legal Centre in October called on NSW to recognise public toilets as an essential private space that allows for changing clothes after exercise or spilling food, cleaning children and nappies or as 'wind-down' spaces. The Australian College of Road Safety improvements to highway rest area public toilets could enhance initiatives to ensure motorists take regular rest breaks. It notes some rest areas lack public toilets and those that do have them may discourage use due to a lack of flushing toilets or potable water. Women truck drivers also face difficulty accessing equitable facilities, as do the 5.5 million Australians with a disability. Sanitary bins are not compulsory in men's toilets, the Country Women's Association points out, compromising the dignity and ability of older men to manage their health needs while using public spaces. And any women attending a large event knows queuing for bathrooms is an experience far more infrequent for men. One answer meets many of those concerns however - universal design principles in bathrooms. They're designed for everyone, with single cubicles with a basin, a full-height door that opens out onto public space as well as change facilities. Medical doctor Amanda Cohn led the charge to revamp her regional city's restrooms to factor in universal design principles and is investigating the potential for wider rollout. The Albury-based MP is chairing a NSW inquiry into public toilets encompassing topics of design, minimum standards and international best practice. "(With universal design) you're designing out the old-fashioned narrow, winding corridor where there's a hidden, shared space - that's really where a lot of the inaccessibility and the danger of public toilets comes from," she tells AAP. "For a surprising number of people, the provision of public toilets actually impacts their decisions about whether or not to visit a town or go to an event. "It actually impacts people's participation in community life. "And for people whose lives are impacted by this every day, this inquiry is a really incredible opportunity for their voices to be heard." Those include the voices of people with disabilities or chronic medical conditions, people who are trans or gender diverse and parents with young children. One member of the public has also demanded an end to the 'prison look' in some older facilities. "Those cold metal seats make taking a potty-trained child to the park horrible," one submission says. The inquiry, , will also examine maintenance. That touches a concern some people have raised to previous inquiries about using non-gender-segregated bathrooms. Albury City Council noted its 10-year public toilet strategy and redevelopment drive had increased maintenance costs by up to $100,000 per year. But shouldering those costs had been prioritised, the council said. It's an argument Greg Rodgers hopes the local government for Port Kembla can also get behind as he underlines the benefit a best-practice toilet would deliver community and business. "Costs shouldn't be an issue - we shouldn't have to expect the pub to be the only available option," he says. "There are so many things that branch from having a good access to a toilet." PRICE NEW YORK (AP) — Chad Chronister, Donald Trump’s pick to run the Drug Enforcement Administration, said Tuesday he was withdrawing his name from consideration, becoming the second person selected by the president-elect to bow out quickly after being nominated for a position requiring Senate confirmation. Sheriff Chronister, the top law enforcement officer in Hillsborough County, Florida, said in a post on X that he was backing away from the opportunity, which he called “the honor of a lifetime.” “Over the past several days, as the gravity of this very important responsibility set in, I’ve concluded that I must respectfully withdraw from consideration,” Chronister wrote. He did not elaborate, and Trump’s transition team did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment. Chronister follows former Republican congressman Matt Gaetz , Trump’s first pick to serve as attorney general, in withdrawing his name for a post in the administration. Gaetz withdrew following scrutiny over a federal sex trafficking investigation that cast doubt on his ability to be confirmed as the nation’s chief federal law enforcement officer. Trump’s pick of Chronister for the DEA job drew backlash from conservatives, who raised concerns over his actions during the COVID-19 pandemic and his saying that his office “does not engage in federal immigration enforcement activities.” In March 2020, Chronister arrested the pastor of a megachurch who held services with hundreds of people and violated a safer-at-home order in place aimed at limiting the spread of the Covid virus. “Shame on this pastor, their legal staff and the leaders of this staff for forcing us to do our job. That’s not what we wanted to do during a declared state of emergency,” Chronister said at the time. “We are hopeful that this will be a wakeup call.” U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky, was among those airing public complaints, saying Chronister should be “disqualified” for the arrest. Trump calls for ending daylight saving time
Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang will be scratched due to an undisclosed injury for Sunday’s game against the New York Islanders at PPG Paints Arena. The team announced Letang’s status approximately a half hour before the opening faceoff but did not provide substantive details as to the nature of Letang’s ailment. Letang logged one of his highest time on ice figures of the season during a 6-3 road loss to the Islanders on Saturday, clocking 25:04 on 27 shifts. A six-time All-Star, the right-handed Letang has appeared in 34 games this season and scored 16 points (seven goals, nine assists) while averaging 23:24 of ice time per contest. His absence adds to the Penguins’ woes on the blue line as left-handers Marcus Pettersson (undisclosed) and Owen Pickering (concussion) are currently designated to injured reserve. With Letang scratched, Nate Clurman is expected to make his NHL debut. The 26-year-old right-hander participated in warmups and skated on the third pairing with left-hander Ryan Shea.
