CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Ten yards into a scramble, Patrick Mahomes could have easily slid for a first down or simply ducked out of bounds and moved on to the next play. Instead, the three-time Super Bowl MVP cut back inside and raced another 23 yards up the field, helping to set up Spencer Schrader's 31-yard field goal as time expired as the Chiefs held on to beat the Carolina Panthers 30-27 on Sunday. “At that point, yards are more important than getting out of bounds,” Mahomes said. “With three timeouts, I just tried to just cut through and Justin Watson had a great block and was able to get down the field and get out of bounds.” The game-winning drive was the 21st of Mahomes' career, and the Chiefs won a game decided in the final seconds for the fifth time this season. While a large number of Americans' metadata likely has been stolen, US officials understand that "the purpose of the operation was more focused," Ms Neuberger said. "We believe... the actual number of calls that they took, recorded and took, was really more focused on very senior political individuals," she continued. She did not elaborate, including revealing the identities of those who were targeted. Chinese officials previously have described the allegations as disinformation and said that Beijing "firmly opposes and combats cyber attacks and cyber theft in all forms." US officials have alleged the hackers' targets included Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Lumen, and others and that telephone audio intercepts along with a large tranche of call record data were stolen. The first 12 twelve months are interest-only. Sixty-five percent of the debt facility is convertible into shares at a fixed conversion price of $5.67, a 130% premium to Clene's closing stock price on the day of signing. The funding will be used to pay off the remaining debt of an existing senior loan taken with Avenue Venture Opportunities Fund, L.P., a fund of the Avenue Capital Group, in May 2021. Over the course of the loan agreement, Clene borrowed $20 million. Repayment under the loan agreement began in July 2024 with $7 million of principal outstanding as of December 2024 plus a final payment fee of $0.85 million, for a total payoff of approximately $7.9 million, including a prepayment penalty. The new loan will help improve the company's cash position, enabling the cash runway to generate additional biomarker data to support the new drug application of CNM-Au8 for ALS via an accelerated regulatory pathway. The company met with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) to discuss a potential accelerated regulatory pathway in November and has since received additional guidance from the regulatory body to gather further clinical trial data. CNM-Au8, an oral suspension of gold nanocrystals, works by improving cellular energy production and utilization, which is critical for maintaining neuronal health. The unexpected martial law decree and swift political fallout shocked the nation and economic markets, unsettling key allies the United States and Europe which had seen Yoon as a staunch partner in global efforts to counter China, Russia, and North Korea. The plan for a vote to impeach Han was unveiled on Thursday by the main opposition Democratic Party after he declined to immediately appoint three justices to fill vacancies at the Constitutional Court, saying it would exceed his acting role. After Yoon's impeachment, the DP had said in the interest of national stability it would not pursue impeaching Han over his role in the martial law bid. But the party has since clashed with the Yoon-appointed prime minister over the justices, as well as bills calling for special prosecutors to investigate the president. On Thursday Han said it was beyond his remit as a caretaker president to appoint the justices without bipartisan agreement. A party spokesman said Han's refusal amounted to an abuse of power aimed at obstructing Yoon's trial, adding that the prime minister was himself "a key suspect in the rebellion". The leader of Yoon's People Power Party, Kwon Young-se, told reporters that if Han was impeached, that could trigger a new financial crisis, the Yonhap news agency said. Yoon cited a high number of impeachment votes and other obstructionist moves by the DP as part of his justification for trying to impose martial law. He also later said it was needed to investigate questions over election security. The vote to determine Han's fate comes as the Constitutional Court is set on Friday to hold its first hearing in a case that will decide whether Yoon is reinstated or permanently removed from office. The court has 180 days to decide whether to reinstate Yoon or remove him. In the latter scenario, a new presidential election would be held within 60 days. Yoon is not required to attend the hearing and it is unclear if anyone from his legal team will be there. On Thursday a court spokesperson said the hearing would be held regardless of his team's participation, but she did not comment on whether the president would eventually be compelled to respond. The Democratic Party has majority control of parliament, but there is disagreement between the parties and some constitutional scholars over whether a simple majority or a two-thirds vote is needed to impeach the acting president. Employers require stability above all else and with an increasingly uncertain geopolitical world — set to be supercharged when Donald Trump takes office in January — industry leaders are anxiously looking ahead . The Irish tourism and hospitality industry is no different. With demand mixed in 2024, costs of business and squeezed margins have been the recurring themes around board tables. All the main parties have now published their full manifestos and each has outlined a suite of business supports. Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael, and Sinn Féin have proposed an employer PRSI rebate to help mitigate some of the labour costs businesses are wrestling with. This has drawn immediate criticism from ICTU which has called the measure “an unacceptable misuse of money”. But the truth is that if state-induced labour costs imposed on employers had been better moderated, then enterprises wouldn’t be so desperately worried about a loss of competitiveness. Thorny issue of Vat Tourism chiefs welcomed Fine Gael’s early pitch for support with its commitment to reduce the hospitality Vat rate to 11% despite the fact that the same party failed to deliver this in last month’s budget. Sinn Féin is proposing a lower 9% rate while Fianna Fáil and the Greens have focused on a business support fund to assist vulnerable companies. As important as competitiveness is, an equally critical issue for the economy is that of connectivity. With no bridges, tunnels, or roads off the island, air access to Dublin Airport is of critical importance. This is surely the biggest future handbrake on development for a country that is the textbook definition of a small open economy. All three main parties have acknowledged this and each states in their manifesto that, as well as supporting regional airport growth, they are in favour of lifting the Dublin Airport passenger cap. But none of them are brave enough to touch the thorny subject of “how”. The current administration is quick to point out that much of the last programme for government has been delivered. As of earlier this month, this now includes a new national tourism policy which was published in the very final throes of the administration. The previous iteration had a youthful Paschal Donohoe smiling from the inside cover as Tourism Minister, so what will be Catherine Martin’s tourism legacy? Well as was famously said about the French Revolution 200 years after it took place “it is too soon to say” and that’s certainly the case for Minister Martin. She came out strongly and resolutely in favour of the industry during the existential crisis that was covid, securing multi-million grants that saved many businesses. Attention has drifted But since the pandemic, there is a feeling that Government attention has drifted elsewhere and the sector hasn’t received the attention it warrants. A case in point is the new national tourism policy which was published with little fanfare and no media traction. Nonetheless, it is welcome that there is now a published commitment by the State as to how tourism is expected to fare over the next few years albeit its implementation will fall to the next Government. It is a truism that parties “campaign in poetry and govern in prose” and all manifesto commitments are likely to be watered down once coalition negotiations take place. It is important though that tourism issues are kept front and centre. The sector is Ireland’s largest indigenous industry and biggest regional employer — twice the size in terms of jobs than agriculture. With Trump Mark 2 and likely trade tensions, tariffs, and tantrums, Ireland’s FDI sector may come under some pressure. The next Government needs to seriously support homegrown domestic industries. It is clear that issues relating to a key indigenous industry such as tourism and hospitality — from competitiveness to decarbonisation — all have economic arguments at their core. Tourism needs a whole of Government approach due to its strategic importance and policy must be formulated in the next Dáil primarily through an economic lens.
