The Patrol Services Bureau Community Response Team (CRT) — formed by top NYPD brass in 2022 to tackle quality-of-life complaints — has no mission statement and is not even mentioned on the department’s website, according to the city’s Department of Investigation report. The unit led by Chief of Patrol John Chell and Deputy Commissioner of Operations Kaz Daughtry swelled from 16 initial members to 165 and operates mysteriously citywide, the investigation found. “The lack of transparency regarding NYPD’s Community Response Team risks non-compliance with the law, ethical breaches, and negative policing outcomes,” DOI Inspector General Jeanene Barrett said Tuesday. “Since its inception more than two years ago, CRT has expanded significantly, with a team in every Patrol Borough, without a corresponding expansion of publicly available information about the work of this unit. “The recommendations in this Report encourage the creation of public policies and procedures that will enhance knowledge of and confidence in CRT’s mission, as well as facilitate future oversight,” she added. Despite the stunning lack of transparency around the unit, the CRT is frequently hailed on social media by Daughtry. “Day 35: Manhattan residents have spoken loud and clear — unlawful vendors cluttering our streets? Not on our watch!” he wrote Monday, while showing scores of knock-off designer wallets seized by the unit. “This quality of life issue on 6th Avenue is a regular topic at town hall meetings. But don’t worry — your Community Response Team is on it! Quality streets, quality goods, no more ‘designer’ deals that are too good to be true.” Investigators also discovered there was no operating guide or written procedures for recruiting officers to the specialized unit. The department, additionally, was unable to provide investigators with 311 data, which police said they used to track and respond to community complaints. The findings are the first part of a continuing probe into the unit, the DOI said. In the next phase, they will investigate discipline among its members. A spokesperson for the NYPD said the department will examine the report. “We thank the DOI for its review of the policies and procedures relating to the Community Response Team,” the spokesperson said. “We look forward to reviewing the report and carefully considering its recommendations.”
NoneEmma Thompson revealed the necklace scene from the 2003 romantic comedy 'Love Actually' was inspired by her first husband Kenneth Branagh's alleged affair with Helena Bonham Carter. Love, actually, might not be the best way to describe one of Keira Knightley's most iconic film scenes. The storied actress was only 17 when she joined the star-studded ensemble cast of "Love Actually," a 2003 romantic Christmas movie that has since become synonymous with the holiday season. Despite its popularity, Knightley admits she can't remember much from her time on set. "Most of my films I have either never seen or I have only seen once. So It’s nothing against ‘Love Actually.’ It’s lovely because it didn’t do as well as everyone thought it was going to when it came out. Suddenly, like three or four years later, it sort of took on a life of its own," she told the Los Angeles Times. 'PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN' STAR KEIRA KNIGHTLEY SAYS SHE WAS 'TAKEN DOWN PUBLICLY,' TRAUMATIZED AFTER FILM Keira Knightley was one of several big actors in the ensemble cast of the 2003 Christmas film, "Love Actually." (Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images) "It’s the only film I’ve had that found this life afterwards. The problem is, I was on it for about five days. I was 17, so I don’t actually have any memory whatsoever of it." Keira Knightley says "Love Actually" is her only project that has resonated with an audience past its initial release. (Gareth Cattermole/Getty Images) The movie, which weaves its characters together through a variant of love stories, includes a newlywed couple, Juliet and Peter, played by Knightley and Chiwetel Ejiofor, respectively. Their wedding is filmed by Peter's best man, Mark (played by Andrew Lincoln), who is secretly in love with Juliet. In what is now an iconic scene, Mark comes to Juliet's door to profess his love for her, cue cards in tow. Standing outside the couple's doorstep with a boombox playing "Silent Night," unbeknownst to his pal Peter, Mark has Juliet read the cards, telling her his true feelings. Andrew Lincoln, who portrays Mark in "Love Actually," shuffles through a series of cards to profess his love for Juliet (played by Keira Knightley). (Maximum Film/Alamy Stock Photo) The scene hasn't aged well, with many acknowledging a bizarre undertone of inappropriateness, one that Knightley can recall feeling on set and voicing to director Richard Curtis. "The slightly stalkerish aspect of it – I do remember that," Knightley reflected of filming. "My memory is of Richard, who is now a very dear friend, of me doing the scene, and him going, ‘No, you’re looking at [Lincoln] like he’s creepy,’ and I’m like, ‘But it is quite creepy.'" "And then having to redo it to fix my face to make him seem not creepy," she added. Keira Knightley said during filming in 2003, she raised her concerns with director Richard Curtis. "Also, I knew I was 17. It only seems like a few years ago that everybody else realized I was 17," she said of her age when filming. Lincoln, whom her character Juliet runs after and kisses, was 29 at the time. Lincoln, for his part, remembered having similar concerns in an interview with Vanity Fair in 2017. "I kept saying to Richard, ‘Are you sure I’m not going to come off as a creepy stalker?’" he said. I mean, I remember being taken by surprise about seven years ago, I was going to be interviewed by somebody and they said, ‘Of course, we’re mainly interested in the stalker scene,’ and I said, ‘What scene is that?’ And then I was, like, educated in it," he said. "All I can say is that a lot of intelligent people were involved in the film at the time, and we didn’t think it was a stalker scene." Hugh Grant , Emma Thompson, Liam Neeson, Laura Linney and Colin Firth also appeared in the film. Caroline Thayer is an entertainment writer. In the world of football, there are no guarantees. The outcome of the match may not always be in our favor, but what we can control is our effort, our determination, and our passion for the game. Regardless of the result, I want my players to walk off the field knowing that they have given everything they had and left nothing to chance.

As President-elect Donald Trump enters his second term, it appears the primary goal for many Democrats will be the same as it was for his first term — stop Trump whatever the cost. It really doesn’t matter what policy positions Trump pursues, if he is for something, there are Democrats who will be against it. That’s unfortunate because, as Democratic U.S. Senator John Fetterman , “If you’re rooting against the president, you are rooting against the nation.” Nevertheless, there are Democrats who believe blind, thoughtless opposition serves the interests of their party. I think they’re wrong, but hate is a powerful motivator. When you’ve called someone a fascist long enough, you start to believe it, and it becomes very hard to see that person in any other light. Trump is a tyrant. Trump is a threat to democracy. Trump is dangerous and unfit for office. Blah, blah, blah. Even Vice President Kamala Harris, during a CNN town hall, told Americans she believes Trump is a fascist. Soon, Harris will preside over a joint session of Congress that will officially formalize Trump’s electoral victory. If Harris truly believes Trump is a fascist who will destroy the nation, how can she in good conscience participate in such a proceeding? Would you oversee a proceeding that results in someone you genuinely believe is a fascist becoming president? Many Democrats, like Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) are still coming to grips with Harris’ loss. Crockett cannot fathom how Latinos could vote to make Trump president. In a Vanity Fair interview, Crockett many Latinos exhibited a “slave mentality” by voting for Trump. That’s nice. Then there’s Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), whose attitude toward the possible shutdown of the federal government was to use it as an opportunity to score political points. “What I’m concerned about,” Jayapal said, “is that a billionaire who is not even elected is acting like a shadow president and doing the work that Republicans have to do.” According to progressives like Jayapal, Elon Musk is the worst thing you can be in America these days: wealthy. There was a time when being successful was the American dream. Now it makes you evil. The truth is, the only power Musk has is the power Trump chooses to give him. Rather than being concerned that Musk has too much influence over the president-elect, Jayapal should be worried about who’s making decisions for the current president. At the moment, this country is being run by unelected White House staff. Democrats like Jayapal were only too happy to let Republicans twist in the wind when it came to a possible government shutdown. Representative Crockett was almost gleeful at the turmoil in the House. Rather than helping to resolve the problem, she she’s going to “sit back and sip my tea.” Apparently, Biden felt the same way. According to his press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, Biden felt no responsibility to help keep the government open. As far as Biden was concerned, Republicans created the problem, and they would have to solve it alone. If Democrats continue to slander anyone who disagrees with them, if they continue to tell Latinos they have a “slave mentality,” if their goal is to simply do everything they can to obstruct and make Republicans look bad, they may be sealing their fate in the eyes of the American people, who are tired of their rabid partisanship. Perhaps I’m being naive, but I do not believe the attitudes of Biden, Jayapal and Crockett represent the views of a majority of Democrats. Far-left progressive members of Congress are hopelessly divorced from reality. If their party has any chance of remaining relevant, mainstream Democrats must put as much distance between themselves and their progressive colleagues as possible. Further, Americans are tired of politicians who justify every noxious comment they make and every irresponsible action they take by claiming politicians in the other party did it first, or are just as bad. It’s a stupid argument, but both sides make it. It’s why Democratic politicians and their supporters bring up Donald Trump anytime they’re criticized. “I may be an idiot, but Donald Trump is a bigger idiot” is not a particularly compelling argument. Personally, I don’t care to what party a politician belongs. I want elected officials who work together to solve problems and get things done for the American people. If a politician — Republican or Democrat — is not willing to do that, they need to do us all a favor and retire. If they refuse, we must be willing to vote them out of office, no matter who they are. Both parties count on the blind allegiance of their members, but it is only when Americans start criticizing their own party and their own politicians that things will begin to change in this country. Until then, we’re just useful tools in the hands of whichever party we happen to belong to or are most closely aligned. Let’s resolve that in 2025 we will not allow our thinking to be manipulated by any politician, political party or media outlet, and we will reject the destructive partisanship that has infected this country’s politics for far too long. Best wishes for a Happy New Year!In conclusion, Europe cannot afford to overlook the importance of China in its efforts to boost the economy. Even before the 39-year-old has taken charge of his first Red Devils game - which comes away to Ipswich Town on Sunday in the Premier League - the transfer rumour mill has inevitably started to swirl. Having overseen the rise of several high-profile Sporting Lisbon stars, Amorim has been tipped to reunite with names such as Viktor Gyokeres , Geovany Quenda , Ousmane Diomande and Goncalo Inacio at Old Trafford. Amorim has ruled out the possibility of raiding his former club in the January transfer window , although summer moves are not believed to be off the table, and the same goes for former Sporting stars as well. According to the Daily Mail , Man United are running the rule over 22-year-old PSG left-back Mendes, who burst onto the scene under Amorim at Sporting before moving to the Ligue 1 champions on loan in 2021 and then permanently in 2022 for £31.6m. © Imago The Portugal international registered one goal and three assists in 47 matches for Sporting, playing all of those games as a teenager, and has since conjured up four goals and 13 assists from 93 appearances in a PSG shirt. Mendes's rapid rise to stardom has also seen him become Portugal's first-choice left-back, and he supplied four assists in six Nations League group games between September and November as the Selecao advanced to the quarter-finals as group winners. Even though the 22-year-old is said to be a fans' favourite at the Parc des Princes, where he has won three successive Ligue 1 titles, Mendes is yet to extend his contract beyond the summer of 2026. PSG are expected to try to tie Mendes down to fresh terms as a matter of priority, but the French champions could be forced to consider a sale next year if talks with his camp fail to bear fruit. Mendes has largely played as an out-and-out left-back at PSG, but he thrived as a wing-back in Amorim's 3-4-3 style, seemingly making him an ideal fit for his compatriot's project at Old Trafford. © Imago In spite of the hundreds of millions that Erik ten Hag spent as Man United boss, Amorim has inherited a Man United squad in serious need of an overhaul, particularly on the left-hand side. Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have both been forced to play on their least preferred flank due to injuries to Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw , neither of whom have played a single minute in the current campaign. The pair are on the verge of comebacks and may even be considered for places in the squad against Ipswich, but the report adds that Amorim could instead use Shaw as a left-sided centre-back rather than a wing-back. If Malacia cannot prove his worth to Amorim, a new left-sided defender is likely to be sought in 2025, and the Red Devils are also said to be pursuing Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies and Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez . Real Madrid are thought to be confident of winning the race to sign Davies on a free transfer, though, while Liverpool are also running the rule over Kerkez's performances.
