The 6-foot-2 senior guard, in his first season at TCU after spending the past two at Arizona State, is scheduled to have surgery Tuesday in Dallas. Collins leads the Horned Frogs (5-4) with 11.2 points and 4.4 assists per game. He also averages 4.4 rebounds per game. TCU said Collins broke his foot in the first half of its 83-74 loss to Vanderbilt last Sunday. He still played 35 minutes, finishing with six points and seven assists. Collins played 31 games as a freshman for Michigan's NCAA Sweet 16 team in 2021-22 before transferring to Arizona State. He started all 32 games last season for the Sun Devils, averaging 13.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. He could potentially get another college season through a medical redshirt. Arizona State is in its first Big 12 season. It will host TCU on Feb. 15. AP college basketball: https://apnews.com/hub/college-basketball and https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-basketball-poll

GENEVA (AP) — Netflix has secured the U.S. broadcasting rights to the Women’s World Cup in 2027 and 2031 as the streaming giant continues its push into live sports. The deal announced Friday is the most significant FIFA has signed with a streaming service for a major tournament. The value was not given, though international competitions in women’s soccer have struggled to draw high-value offers. “Bringing this iconic tournament to Netflix isn’t just about streaming matches,” its chief content officer Bela Bajaria said in a statement. “It’s also about celebrating the players, the culture and the passion driving the global rise of women’s sport.” Netflix dipped into live sports last month with more than 60 million households watching a heavily hyped boxing match between retired heavyweight legend Mike Tyson and social media personality Jake Paul. Some viewers reported streaming problems , however. Netflix also will broadcast two NFL games on Christmas Day: the Kansas City Chiefs at the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens at the Houston Texans. That’s part of a three-year deal announced in May. World Cups are typically broadcast on free-to-air public networks to reach the biggest audiences, and the last women's edition in 2023 earned FIFA less than 10% of the men's 2022 World Cup. FIFA president Gianni Infantino had publicly criticized public broadcasters , especially in Europe, for undervaluing offers to broadcast the 2023 tournament that was played in Australia and New Zealand. That tournament was broadcast by Fox in the U.S. “This agreement sends a strong message about the real value of the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the global women’s game,” Infantino said. The World Cup rights mark another major step in Netflix’s push into live programming. It’s recipe that Netflix has cooked up to help sell more advertising, a top priority for the company since it introduced a low-priced version of its streaming service that includes commercials two years ago. The ad-supported version is now the fastest growing part of Netflix’s service, although most of its 283 million worldwide subscribers till pay for higher-priced options without commercial. But Netflix is still trying to sell more ads to boost its revenue, which is expected to be about $30 billion. Netflix executives have predicted it might take two or three years before its ad sales become a major part of its revenue. Netflix expects to spend about $17 billion on programming this year — a budget that the Los Gatos, California, company once funneled almost entirely into scripted TV series and movies. But Netflix is now allocating a significant chunk of that money to sports and live events, a shift that has made it a formidable competitor to traditional media bidding for the same rights. FIFA will likely use the Netflix deal to drive talks with European broadcasters that likely will be hardball negotiations. Soccer finance expert Kieran Maguire, a co-host of The Price of Football podcast, suggested the deal was “a bit of a gamble" for FIFA and “saber-rattling” by Infantino. “(Netflix) get experience of football broadcasting, FIFA can say, ‘we are now partnering with a blue chip organization, so watch out you nasty Europeans,’” Maguire, an academic at the University of Liverpool, said in a telephone interview. FIFA and Infantino also want to raise the price of broadcast deals to help fund increased prize money and close the gender pay gap on the men’s World Cup. At the men’s 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the 32 team federations shared $440 million in prize money. For the women’s 2023 tournament , FIFA had a $152 million total fund for prize money, contributions to teams’ preparation costs and payments to players’ clubs. In FIFA’s financial accounts for 2023 , the soccer body reported total broadcasting revenue of $244 million. In the year of the men’s 2022 World Cup it was almost $2.9 billion. The next Women's World Cup will be a 32-team, 64-game tournament in 2027, played in Brazil from June 24-July 25. The U.S. originally bid jointly with Mexico. The 2031 host has not been decided, though the U.S. likely will bid for a tournament which FIFA is expected to try to expand to 48 teams. That would match the size of the 104-game format of the men's World Cup that debuts in 2026 in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Spain won the 2023 Women's World Cup after the U.S. won the two previous titles — in France in 2019 and Canada in 2015. More than 25 million viewers in the U.S. watched the 2015 World Cup final, a 5-2 win over Japan, played in Vancouver, Canada, in a time zone similarly favorable to Brazil. FIFA tried to sign Apple+ to an exclusive global deal to broadcast the inaugural 32-team Club World Cup which is being played in 11 U.S. cities next June and July. Broadcast networks showed little interest in the FIFA club event that will now be broadcast for free on streaming service DAZN, which is building closer business ties to Saudi Arabia. Ahead of the next Women's World Cup, Netflix will "produce exclusive documentary series in the lead-up to both tournaments, spotlighting the world’s top players, their journeys and the global growth of women’s football,” FIFA said. Sale Sharks righted their Champions Cup campaign as they took advantage of Racing 92’s errors and inconsistencies to earn a comfortable 29 – 7 win at Salford Community Stadium. Jean-Luc du Preez and Tom Roebuck’s tries established a five-point half-time advantage for the hosts, before Joe Carpenter scampered in and Ben Curry shoved over to ensure the Sharks could see out the contest in comfort. With the home fans serenading their team, Rob du Preez powered over, only to see his try chalked off for a knock-on. But it couldn’t take the shine off a deeply satisfying night for coach Alex Sanderson. Bottom of pool four after coming away from Glasgow without a losing bonus point in the opening round, Sale climb to second with a weekend of action to come elsewhere. The top four qualify for the last 16, with the top two in each of the four pools having home advantage for the knockouts. The Sharks delivered on Sanderson’s pre-match request to test Racing’s commitment to the competition with their physicality. The swirling Salford drizzle didn’t add to the attraction for Racing, who beat Harlequins at home in the opening round, as they underwhelmed throughout. Neither side could gain supremacy for much of an opening quarter which featured a touchline skirmish that pitted England second rows past and future – Jonny Hill and Junior Kpoku – against each other and a hooked drop-goal shot from Racing fly-half Dan Lancaster. But after repelling Racing from a similarly promising attacking platform, Sale made territory count as Jean-Luc du Preez battered his way over around the remnants of a driven line-out. Racing, who have had a patchy start to their Top 14 season but are three-time runners-up in this competition, rarely threatened to get their expensively assembled side into gear. Henry Arundell, ineligible for England since he extended his contract with the Parisians after the 2023 World Cup, spilled a routine pass. Sale started to win scrum penalties against the heavier French pack. The home front row provided immaculate set-piece ball for Sale’s second try, with George Ford looping out the back after Rob du Preez’s line had fixed the defence and, via Carpenter, putting Roebuck into the corner to nudge Sale 12 unanswered points clear. Racing’s route back was less intricate. The visitors leaned into their considerable bulk and a succession of heavy cavalry charges culminated in prop Guram Gogichashvili picking through the wreckage to score on the stroke of half-time. Sale’s lead was cut to five, but they kept the upper hand. Luke Cowan-Dickie was held up over the line shortly after the restart before an aimless kick from Racing’s Antoine Gibert was brilliantly snaffled by Roebuck. The wing cantered through before carefully putting Carpenter under the posts for a 19-7 advantage. Ben Curry marked a busy performance by bustling over for a try and, with Racing flanker Maxime Baudonne having been sin-binned for illegally stopping a Sale surge on the previous play, the game was done. The main remaining interest was in the subplots involving England Test wannabes. Sale came out on top in those as well, with Roebuck dumping Arundell to his shorts with a thumping hit two minutes from time.
Zelenskyy agrees to record podcast with American interviewer FriedmanORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Cole Anthony drove for a layup with 1.3 seconds left to complete the Orlando Magic's 17-point fourth-quarter comeback Sunday in a 102-101 win over the Brooklyn Nets. Cam Thomas missed a jumper from the corner at the final horn. Anthony scored 10, and Tristan da Silva scored 13 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter for Orlando, which was down 71-51 midway through the third quarter. Goga Bitadze added 19 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. The Magic's comeback was their second in eight days after Orlando rallied from 25 points down to beat Miami 121-114 on Dec. 21. Thomas came off the bench with 25 points to lead the Nets in his first game since Nov. 25. Jalen Wilson added 16 points including two free throws with 6.2 seconds left. Thomas, Brooklyn's leading scorer with 24.7 points per game, played 25 minutes after missing 13 games with a strained left hamstring. Takeaways Nets: Losing for the seventh time in nine games, the Nets played for the first time without Dorian Finney-Smith, who was traded early Sunday to the Los Angeles Lakers. In their four games against the Magic this season, the Nets used 11 different starters. Only Cam Johnson started all four games. Magic: The Magic completed a four-game season series sweep of the Nets and concluded a 3-4 holiday home stretch. They overcame double-digit second-half deficits in all three of their wins against Miami, Boston and Brooklyn. Key moment A 3-pointer by Anthony, who did not play in the first half, launched a 13-0 Orlando run after they had fallen behind by 20 points. Key stat The Nets shot 13 for 30 from 3-point range. Up next The Nets are at Toronto and the Magic are at Detroit on Wednesday night. ___ AP NBA: https://apnews.com/hub/nba Dick Scanlon, The Associated Press

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Ryan Strome scored with 2:36 remaining as the Anaheim Ducks rallied from a two-goal deficit in the second period to defeat the Edmonton Oilers 5-3 on Sunday. Strome's goal, his sixth of the season, originally wasn't called, but it was reversed after a review. Strome's shot was entirely over the goal line before Edmonton goalie Calvin Pickard could stop it with his skate. Mason McTavish added an empty-net goal. It is the first time since March 30, 2019, the Ducks have defeated the Oilers by more than one goal. Cutter Gauthier, McTavish and Robby Fabbri each had a goal and an assist. Drew Helleson also scored for Anaheim, which snapped a seven-game losing streak to Edmonton. Lukas Dostal made 20 saves. Leon Draisaitl had two goals and Connor McDavid two assists for the Oilers, who were 3-0-1 in their past four. Evan Bouchard also tallied a goal and Pickard stopped 27 shots. Oilers: Draisaitl became the fourth player with at least 120 regular-season points in the calendar year. The forward has 50 goals and 71 assists in 2024. The last calendar year to feature as many NHL skaters with 120-plus points was 1993. Ducks: Anaheim had a 32-23 advantage in shots on goal and has won four of its last seven. Fabbri tied it at 3-all with 2:27 remaining on a snap shot from the right faceoff circle after getting the pass from McTavish. Fabbri has seven points (three goals, four assists) in eight games since returning from a knee injury. McDavid has a 14-game point streak against the Ducks (11 goals, 23 assists). The only teams he has a longer active point streak against are Nashville and New Jersey at 15 games. Both teams have home games on Tuesday. The Oilers face Utah while the Ducks take on New Jersey. One of The Game Awards 2024's biggest moments was a lengthy cinematic trailer for The Witcher 4 , which is set to star a recast Ciri in the lead role. The trailer, which CD Projekt Red says is "using assets and models from the game itself" and running on an "unannounced Nvidia GeForce RTX" graphics card, is very visually impressive, which begs the question: which consoles will run this game? Well, the developer mostly dodges the question in an interview with Eurogamer . When asked whether the game will run on current-gen hardware — bearing in mind the mysterious graphics card running what we see in the trailer — game director Sebastian Kalemba is cagey. "You know, first of all, this is good to say: this is not a kind of 'beginning of marketing' campaign," Kalemba says. "We firstly wanted to showcase and share with the entire world that Ciri is the main protagonist; it's The Witcher 4; and she's mutated; and she's on The Path, definitely, right?" He continues, saying the team is working on new technology — "Unreal Engine 5 and our custom build" — but doesn't get into details regarding what machines can run it. "And obviously we want to support all the platforms - meaning PC, Xbox and Sony, right? - but I cannot, right now, tell you more specifics regarding that." It may simply be too early in the development to say with confidence which platforms the game will hit, but given that Cyberpunk 2077 's expansion, Phantom Liberty , skipped PS4, we're fairly certain eighth generation consoles are out of the picture. PS5 is a dead cert, unless The Witcher 4 is so technically advanced that it's heading for next-gen consoles like PS6 instead. Whatever the case, the game will most assuredly be a stunner when it finally launches. Are you excited for The Witcher 4?
