If a taxpayer is facing any issues or difficulty in comprehending any issue with his/her income tax return (ITR) or TDS certificate or any other income tax related issues, then they have an option to lodge a complaint with the tax department. This complaint is lodged through the grievance redressal mechanism. However, considering the fact that the number of grievances is very high, and they vary in nature, not all income tax officers might be well equipped to solve all types of grievances. For example: For example: A centralised processing centre (CPC) officer can't handle grievances related to tax demand or section 220 notices, because an assessing officer (AO) commissioner of income tax as the case may handle this. To give taxpayers clarity about which officer to approach or which department head to send the grievance complaint, the income tax department released a document in the last week of November 2024. This document highlights which income tax officers can handle which type of grievances and gives you clarity about whom to approach. Experts say knowing this information ensures a faster resolution of grievances. Which tax officer can help you solve what type of grievances This document by the income tax department clarifies the right process of filing complaints with the correct officer, such as submitting TDS-related grievances or issues related to Form 26AS to CPC(TDS) rather than the Assessing Officer, etc. "This eliminates confusion, reduces the likelihood of misfiling, and ensures a faster resolution of grievances," says Chartered Accountant Rahul Singh,Senior Manager, Advisory & Research, Taxmann. According to the document by income tax department here's a chart explaining the level of problem-solving ability of tax officers: Entrepreneurship Crafting a Powerful Startup Value Proposition By - Dr. Anu Khanchandani, Startup Coach with more than 25 years of experience View Program Office Productivity Mastering Google Sheets: Unleash the Power of Excel and Advance Analysis By - Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and Developer View Program Artificial Intelligence(AI) Learn InVideo AI: Create Videos from Text Easily By - Prince Patni, Software Developer (BI, Data Science) View Program Finance AI and Generative AI for Finance By - Hariom Tatsat, Vice President- Quantitative Analytics at Barclays View Program Data Science SQL Server Bootcamp 2024: Transform from Beginner to Pro By - Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and Developer View Program Finance A2Z Of Finance: Finance Beginner Course By - elearnmarkets, Financial Education by StockEdge View Program Artificial Intelligence(AI) Master in Python Language Quickly Using the ChatGPT Open AI By - Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and Developer View Program Strategy ESG and Business Sustainability Strategy By - Vipul Arora, Partner, ESG & Climate Solutions at Sattva Consulting Author I Speaker I Thought Leader View Program Finance Tally Prime & GST Accounting: Complete Guide By - CA Raj K Agrawal, Chartered Accountant View Program Marketing Digital Marketing Masterclass by Neil Patel By - Neil Patel, Co-Founder and Author at Neil Patel Digital Digital Marketing Guru View Program Artificial Intelligence(AI) Tabnine AI Masterclass: Optimize Your Coding Efficiency By - Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and Developer View Program Entrepreneurship Boosting Startup Revenue with 6 AI-Powered Sales Automation Techniques By - Dr. Anu Khanchandani, Startup Coach with more than 25 years of experience View Program Artificial Intelligence(AI) Basics of Generative AI: Unveiling Tomorrow's Innovations By - Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and Developer View Program Entrepreneurship Building Your Winning Startup Team: Key Strategies for Success By - Dr. Anu Khanchandani, Startup Coach with more than 25 years of experience View Program Entrepreneurship Validating Your Startup Idea: Steps to Ensure Market Fit By - Dr. Anu Khanchandani, Startup Coach with more than 25 years of experience View Program Finance A2Z Of Money By - elearnmarkets, Financial Education by StockEdge View Program Web Development Intermediate C++ Skills: Master Pointers, Structures and File Stream By - Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and Developer View Program Web Development C++ Fundamentals for Absolute Beginners By - Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and Developer View Program Artificial Intelligence(AI) Java Programming with ChatGPT: Learn using Generative AI By - Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and Developer View Program Office Productivity Microsoft Word Mastery: From Beginner to Expert By - CA Raj K Agrawal, Chartered Accountant View Program Office Productivity Mastering Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and 365 By - Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and Developer View Program Web Development Mastering Full Stack Development: From Frontend to Backend Excellence By - Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and Developer View Program Marketing Future of Marketing & Branding Masterclass By - Dr. David Aaker, Professor Emeritus at the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley, Author | Speaker | Thought Leader | Branding Consultant View Program Entrepreneurship Startup Fundraising: Essential Tactics for Securing Capital By - Dr. Anu Khanchandani, Startup Coach with more than 25 years of experience View Program Web Development Advanced C++ Mastery: OOPs and Template Techniques By - Metla Sudha Sekhar, IT Specialist and Developer View Program Serial number Competent Authority Particulars 1 E-filing This department handles e-filing of income tax returns, statutory forms, and services like e-verification and e-proceedings. Source: Income Tax Department A different circular released on November 4, 2024, by the income tax department had information on amended monetary limits and powers of tax officers in respect of waiver of interest paid or payable under section 220 of the Income Tax Act. In this circular the tax department has mentioned which tax officer has the authority to waive this interest. Aniket Kulkarni, Chartered Accountant says, "The clear specification of authorities' vis-a-vis monetary limits for reduction or waiver of interest aim to provide clarity to taxpayers. The taxpayer now has a clear understanding of whom to approach with an application for reduction or waiver of interest." Income Tax Circular Source: Income Tax Department circular "While the conditions for grating reduction or waiver of interest were already existing in the provision, division of responsibilities to different categories of officers is expected to fasten the process of disposal of applications. However, subjectivity in applying conditions like what constitutes genuine hardship may differ from authority to authority," says Kulkarni. Here's what else has changed in respect to grievance redressal in 2024 Chartered Accountant (Dr.) Suresh Surana says many changes were made in respect to the grievance redressal mechanism of Income Tax. "The Income Tax Department of India has introduced several enhancements to its grievance redress mechanism in 2024, aimed at improving taxpayer experience and ensuring efficient resolution of issues. With the launch of the e-Nivaran and CPGRAMS system, taxpayers now have a more efficient way to address their concerns, track progress, and escalate unresolved issues as needed," says Surana. According to Surana, here's a summary of what's changed and new in the grievance redressal process: Unified Grievance Management System - e-Nivaran and Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) The Income Tax Department has established a Unified Grievance Management system called e-Nivaran and CPGRAMS to address taxpayers' issues more effectively. E-Nivaran allows you to submit grievances online related to various income tax matters, including filing issues, refunds, and processing delays whereas CPGRAMS allows you to lodge grievances to the public authorities on any subject related to service delivery. E-Nivaran - Submission Process Two Submission Methods: Taxpayers can submit grievances through two primary methods: Registered Users: Individuals with registration on the e-filing portal can log in and submit grievances directly through their accounts. Unregistered Users: Even individuals without registration can file grievances by accessing the grievance section on the Income Tax portal. Income Tax Grievance Resolution Timeline The Income Tax Department aims to resolve grievances within 8 weeks from the date of receipt of the grievance. "However, many grievances are typically addressed within one month," says Surana. For urgent matters originating from high-level offices (like the Prime Minister's or Finance Minister's Office), resolutions are stated to be prioritised with a turnaround time of 21 days. Income Tax Grievance Status Tracking Taxpayers can easily track the status of their submitted grievances through the e-Nivaran system. This feature enhances transparency and allows taxpayers to stay informed about the progress of their complaints. Income Tax Grievance Escalation Mechanism If a grievance is not resolved satisfactorily, you have the option to escalate the complaints through the e-Nivaran platform. This escalation process is designed to ensure that unresolved issues receive further attention from higher authorities of the Income Tax Department. Surana says: "The E-Nivaran scheme enables taxpayers to submit grievances online and receive a Unique Grievance ID for tracking their cases. This digital approach reduces administrative delays and paperwork. Taxpayers receive automated acknowledgments and updates regarding their grievances. This ensures they are informed about the status of their complaints without needing to follow up repeatedly. The grievance redressal mechanisms are now standardised across departments, which helps in maintaining consistency in how complaints are handled. It is important to highlight that the document by the Income Tax Department (table shown above) provides comprehensive information on the appropriate authority to which grievances should be reported, depending on the specific nature of the issue. This ensures that individuals can effectively direct their concerns to the relevant body equipped to handle their particular type of grievance, facilitating a more efficient resolution process."

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Willy Adames wasted little time making one thing clear: He wants to play all 162 games for the San Francisco Giants. So when introduced as their new shortstop Thursday, Adames looked to his left and gently put a hand on manager Bob Melvin's right shoulder, smiled and said, “if he lets me.” Melvin might not need much convincing, thrilled to suddenly have stability at a position that lacked continuity this year in his first season as skipper. Adames didn't hesitate to also offer a thought to new boss Buster Posey: He plans to win a few championships with the Giants just like the catcher-turned-executive did here. Surrounded by his parents and other family and friends, Adames was formally introduced and welcomed at Oracle Park after signing a $182 million, seven-year contract — the first big, splashy move made by Posey since he became President of Baseball Operations in late September. “There’s no words to describe my feeling right now to be here in this beautiful city, I’m just so happy to be here,” Adames said. "... This is a dream come true for me. I’m thrilled to be here, I’m so excited. Hopefully we can win a few championships like you did, and that’s one of the main reasons I’m here.” Everyone who has encountered Adames so far can’t wait for him to get to work as an example both on the diamond and in the clubhouse. “He’s a unique connector of people,” Posey shared from Craig Counsell's description of the 29-year-old infielder from the Dominican Republic. “That really struck me because I think to win championships you have to have personalities like Willy that they're able to identify with everybody in the clubhouse, and that's not just players. I heard from multiple people that Willy treats everybody with the utmost respect. He plays with energy, he plays with joy and I know that our fans are just going to be thrilled to watch him compete on a daily basis.” Adames' deal marks the richest contract for San Francisco since Posey reached a $167 million, nine-year pact in 2013. “I didn’t know 'til it was done. I was like ‘wow,’" Adames said. From afar, Adames watched the legacy left by his hero Derek Jeter that went far beyond the baseball diamond. And that's as important to Adames as playing all 162 after he appeared in 161 games last season for Milwaukee. He considers part of his role to help the young players learn “to be a professional" and lead a club that has missed the playoffs the past three years in winning the right way. “For me that comes first, it comes first to be a great human being. I've got to thank my parents for that, they raised me the right way, to try to treat everybody the same, it doesn't matter what you're doing,” Adames said. “I think that's something that I'm really proud of, just to be the same guy every day, to be kind, just to give love back to people because there's a lot of hate out there and I don't really like that.” The Giants know Adames' positive influence could go far. Asked about the instability at shortstop, Melvin noted, “Well, it's not a problem now.” Adames gives the Giants a power bat and reliable defense at his position. This year for the Brewers, he produced his best offensive season in the big leagues, batting .251 with a career-high 32 home runs and 112 RBIs. “Look, every team wants a Willy Adames on their team. I think the thing that strikes me the most is when I'd watch him play a couple times a year on the other side was he never looked like he had a bad day,” Melvin said. “It always looked like every day was opening day to him. That enthusiasm when your best players are like that — Matt Chapman is like that, too — it's easy for everybody to have to fall in and play in that type of style. It's easier said than done but really for me that's the thing that struck me most is how much he loved playing baseball.” Adames is close friends with former Giants third baseman Matt Duffy, who shared his own experiences being part of the San Francisco franchise. It all became real when Adames pulled on his new cream-colored Giants jersey and buttoned it up, saying, “I'm a little nervous about this." A few moments later, the cap went on his head and he felt right at home. “It looks amazing.” AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB

ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (AP) — Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow’s home was broken into during Monday Night Football in of a pro athlete in the U.S., authorities said Tuesday. No one was injured in the break-in, but the home was ransacked, according to a report provided by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies weren’t immediately able to determine what items were stolen. A person who is employed by Burrow arrived at the Anderson Township home Monday night to find a shattered bedroom window and the home in disarray. The person called their mother, and then 911 was contacted, according to the report. Deputies reached out to neighbors in an attempt to piece together surveillance footage. “Our investigators are exploring every avenue,” public information officer Kyla Woods said. The homes of Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce in October. , Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis had his home broken into Nov. 2 and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Mike Conley Jr.’s home was burglarized on Sept. 15 while he was at a Minnesota Vikings game. Portis had offered a $40,000 reward for information. Both the NFL and NBA issued security alerts to players after those break-ins, urging them to take additional precautions to secure their homes. In league memos previously obtained by The Associated Press, the NFL said homes of professional athletes across multiple sports have become “increasingly targeted for burglaries by organized and skilled groups.” And the NBA revealed that the FBI has connected some burglaries to “transnational South American Theft Groups” that are “reportedly well-organized, sophisticated rings that incorporate advanced techniques and technologies, including pre-surveillance, drones, and signal jamming devices.” Some of the burglary groups have conducted extensive surveillance on targets, including attempted home deliveries and posing as grounds maintenance or joggers in the neighborhood, according to officials. ___ AP NFL: The Associated PressMocha Mousse on fashion, beauty, interior and design

The S&P 500 and Dow indices surged, driven by gains in consumer discretionary, financials, and industrial stocks. Conversely, technology stocks struggled, with Nvidia trading 2.5% lower after releasing mixed forecasts. Despite this, the major indices are poised for a strong finish to the week. Won’t use tractors, will march to Delhi on foot: Farm leadersIn the minutes following the Bears ’ 6-3 loss to the Seahawks on Thursday night, quarterback Caleb Williams laid out what his expectations were for his rookie season. “Just being able to, from start to finish, to be able to be consistent all season,” he said. “Obviously their job on the defensive side is to be able to provide the inconsistencies in things like that. But find ways just to be consistent and play good football, consistent football when the ball is in my hand.” He hasn’t done that, but he has a chance to cross one item off that list. Next week against the Packers he can become the first Bears quarterback to start every game in a 17-game season, and the first Bears passer to start every game in a season of any length since Jay Cutler did it in 2009. The better question is whether Williams should be allowed to do so. The Bears’ season is so lost, their offense so miserable, that it no longer seems like a good idea. The Bears have promoted the value of Williams getting as many snaps as possible all season long, dismissing the notion of benching him at any point during the team’s 10-games-and-counting losing streak. But haven’t we seen enough of the broken Bears offense? Twelve NFL games this season have featured one team totaling less than 180 yards. Amazingly, the Bears did it four times — against the Patriots, Titans, 49ers and Seahawks. There have been 26 games this season in which a starting quarterback has thrown for less than 125 yards and no touchdowns in a game; Williams has done it three times, and no one else has more than twice. There’s not much to extrapolate for Williams next season, either. Williams is playing under an offensive play-caller, interim head coach Thomas Brown, who likely won’t be part of the Bears next season. Thursday, he played behind four starting offensive linemen who aren’t under contract for next season — everyone but right tackle Darnell Wright. Two — left tackle Larry Borom and left guard Jake Curhan, serving as injury replacements — gave up a combined five pressures. Curhan was flagged for holding on a touchdown and a false start on fourth-and-one. Williams was sacked a whopping seven times, and could have avoided at least four of them by throwing the ball away. His season total is up to 67, the most by any player since 2005. If the Packers sack him nine times next week — the Bears have let that happen once already this season, against the Patriots — he’ll tie David Carr’s 2002 season for the most sacks ever taken. “Anytime you take multiple hits throughout a season or throughout a game, I mean they add up, obviously,” Williams said. “Just as with anybody, if you get hit more often, more often than not, you start to feel those a little bit more. Recovery and things like that are really important. And when you take a bunch of hits or anything like that, whatever position you are, recovery and all that is super important. “And got one more game. Got to go out and recover and get ready for the next game.” The notion of continuity rings hollow, though, when there’s a coaching staff and roster overhaul beginning the minute the Packers game ends. If the Bears were playing anyone other than their rival, perhaps sitting Williams would be more likely. The McCaskeys hate losing to the Packers — even their backups — and have plenty of practice lately. The Packers have won 11-straight rivalry games. The best argument for Williams playing might be what would happen if he didn’t. For all of the Bears’ struggles this season, perhaps the greatest indignity would be snapping the losing streak with backup Tyson Bagent, and not the No. 1 overall pick, under center.Thousands attend funeral of Afghan minister
Players must be assigned female at birth or have transitioned to female before going through male puberty to compete in LPGA tournaments or the eight USGA championships for females under new gender policies published Wednesday. The policies, which begin in 2025, follow more than a year of study involving medicine, science, sport physiology and gender policy law. The updated policies would rule out eligibility for Hailey Davidson, who missed qualifying for the U.S. Women's Open this year by one shot and came up short in LPGA Q-school. Davidson, who turned 32 on Tuesday, began hormone treatments when she was in her early 20s in 2015 and in 2021 underwent gender-affirming surgery, which was required under the LPGA's previous gender policy. She had won this year on a Florida mini-tour called NXXT Golf until the circuit announced in March that players had to be assigned female at birth. “Can't say I didn't see this coming,” Davidson wrote Wednesday on an Instagram story. “Banned from the Epson and the LPGA. All the silence and people wanting to stay ‘neutral’ thanks for absolutely nothing. This happened because of all your silence.” LPGA commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan, who is resigning in January, said the new gender policy "is reflective of an extensive, science-based and inclusive approach." By making it to the second stage of Q-school, Davidson would have had very limited status on the Epson Tour, the pathway to the LPGA. The LPGA and USGA say their policies were geared toward being inclusive of gender identities and expression while striving for equity in competition. The LPGA said its working group of experts advised that the effects of male puberty allowed for competitive advantages in golf compared with players who had not gone through puberty. “Our policy is reflective of an extensive, science-based and inclusive approach,” said LPGA Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan, who announced Monday that she is resigning in January. "The policy represents our continued commitment to ensuring that all feel welcome within our organization, while preserving the fairness and competitive equity of our elite competitions.” Mike Whan, the former LPGA commissioner and now CEO of the USGA, said it developed the updated policy independently and later discovered it was similar to those used by swimming, track and field, and other sports. United States Golf Association CEO Mike Whan said the new policy will prevent anyone from having "a competitive advantage based on their gender." “It starts with competitive fairness as the North star,” Whan said in a telephone interview. “We tried not to get into politics, or state by state or any of that stuff. We just simply said, ‘Where would somebody — at least medically today — where do we believe somebody would have a competitive advantage in the field?’ And we needed to draw a line. “We needed to be able to walk into any women's event and say with confidence that nobody here has a competitive advantage based on their gender. And this policy delivers that.” The “Competitive Fairness Gender Policy” for the USGA takes effect for the 2025 championship season that starts with the U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball on May 10-14. Qualifying began late this year, though there were no transgender players who took part. “Will that change in the years to come as medicine changes? Probably,” Whan said. “But I think today this stacks up.” The LPGA “Gender Policy for Competition Eligibility” would apply to the LPGA Tour, Epson Tour, Ladies European Tour and qualifying for the tours. Players assigned male at birth must prove they have not experienced any part of puberty beyond the first stage or after age 12, whichever comes first, and then meet limitation standards for testosterone levels. (AP Photo/Robert F. Nationally, 66% of faculty say “colleges and universities should not take positions on political and social issues,” says Silence in the Classroom, the 2024 FIRE Faculty Survey Report. At Duke, the percentage is 71%, at Carolina 65%, and at Wake 64%. Higher education is facing mounting challenges, from the costs to the positions it favors. Silencing students or faculty has drawn sharp criticism from Capitol Hill to every corner of the nation sending people to the ballot box. Carolina, established in 1789, is the nation’s oldest public university. It also earlier this year became embattled in free speech controversy tied to the war between Hamas and Israel. The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression , as FIRE is more formally known, is a nonprofit nonpartisan organization billing itself as “defending and sustaining the individual rights of all Americans to free speech and free thought.” Surveys on topics related to free expression and academic freedom were made of 6,269 tenured, tenure-track and nontenure faculty at 55 four-year colleges and universities in America. In North Carolina, the sampling was of 145 at Carolina, 80 at Duke, and 55 at Wake Forest. For each campus, respondents said the top “difficult issue to discuss” is the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Asked for top three issues, the Middle East saga was 79% at Carolina, 71% at Wake Forest and 68% at Duke. Each campus was split on the second and third choices. At Duke, 57% said affirmative action and 51% transgender rights. At Carolina, 54% said affirmative action and 53% racial inequality. And at Wake, 63% said racial inequality and 55% transgender rights. All were talking points of various candidates, particularly the presidential race, in the election cycle climaxing last month. In response to faculty feeling “they could not express their opinion because of how others would respond,” the choices of “occasionally,” “fairly often” and “very often” drew a combined 69% at Wake Forest, 69% at Duke and 67% at Carolina. Garnering 4.3 million views this week, the melodrama series continued its three-week streak on the streamer’s rankings. A key figure in a trucker protest that jammed Canada's capital and sparked a global movement against Covid mandates was found guilty Friday for his role in the blockade. The self-styled "Freedom Convoy" of big rig drivers and protesters rolled into Ottawa in early 2022 from across Canada to express anger at government protocols imposed to contain Covid-19. After three weeks of turmoil, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked rarely used emergency powers to dislodge the protesters. Pat King was among hundreds of people arrested, and the first of the protest leaders to be convicted. Two other organizers, Tamara Lich and Chris Barber faced a separate criminal trial but those verdicts are not expected until 2025. King faces up to 10 years in prison after being convicted on five charges, including mischief, counselling others to commit mischief and disobeying a court order. Acquitted of more serious charges, he smiled at a packed courtroom of supporters as the judge read the verdict. "Mr King was not merely engaging in political speech," Justice Charles Hackland said. "Rather, he was inciting the protesters to continue their ongoing blockade of downtown Ottawa." King led hundreds of big rigs and thousands of protestors to Ottawa, bringing the capital to a standstill for more than three weeks. Residents and business owners complained of incessant honking and harassment. As the demonstrators' demands expanded to a broader anti-establishment agenda, solidarity rallies popped up at Canada-US trade corridors and various places abroad. Most of the evidence at trial consisted of videos King posted on social media in which he urged his nearly 300,000 followers to rail against government overreach. "Hold the line," he said in video posts, appearing also to delight in the gridlock and misery of locals: "Pretty hilarious that people haven't been able to sleep for 10 days." Trudeau faced strong criticisms from civil liberties groups and the opposition Conservatives for invoking the Emergencies Act to dislodge the protestors. But a commission of inquiry ruled it had been "appropriate," calling it "a drastic move, but... not a dictatorial one." amc/bs/bfmTrump announces picks for IRS, SEC, NASA and a new ‘hostage affairs’ envoy
