NoneMichigan (7-5) is not the juggernaut of a program who ran through their schedule undefeated enroute to a national championship last year, as their 90th ranked SP+ offense has dramatically reduced their ability to keep pace with the rest of the expanded Big Ten. UM went 4-2 through the first half of the schedule, but then dropped 3-of-4 to @Illinois (21-7), Oregon (38-17) and @Indiana (20-15), before scorching Northwestern 50-6. However, the 5-loss season was all but forgotten by the Michigan faithful when they went into the Horseshoe and planted big “M” on midfield after a thrilling 13-10 victory over the Buckeyes. The Wolverines finally settled on former walk-on QB Davis Warren who emerged from an early-season three-QB rotation to win the job. UM ranks second-to-last nationally (134th) in passing explosiveness and plays at the 131 st slowest pace in the country. Their run defense is stout ranking 16th in success rate allowed, while UM’s secondary ranks 15th in pass explosiveness but is allowing a 61.1% completion rate (74th) and is a few notches down from their dominant 2023 version. Despite losing to Tennessee 24-17 and getting upset by Vanderbilt 40-35 despite a 99% post-game win expectancy, Alabama (9-3) was still in control of their own destiny to make the CFP Playoff heading into their Week 13 tilt with Oklahoma (6-7). However, the Tide and QB Jalen Milroe got smothered by the Sooners’ defense, completing 11-of-27 passes with three interceptions in the humiliating 24-3 blowout loss which ultimately sunk their playoff hopes and landed Bama in this SEC vs. B10 Blue Blood showdown with the Wolverines. The Crimson Tide have been explosive on offense once again, ranking 5th in 20+ yard play rate (9.1%) and 13th in marginal explosiveness, with the passing game leading the way courtesy of a 49% pass success rate (11th). Defensively they rank 9th nationally and rank 10th in EPA/dropback. However, the Bama pass rush is a shell of their former selves, ranking 84th in sacks per dropback (5.2%) and 66th with a 35% pressure rate. NBC Sports Bet Best Bet NBC Sports Betting Analyst Eric Froton (@CFFroton) thinks: “Michigan is dealing with a slew of impact opt outs, including their two-star DTs Graham & Grant, CB Will Johnson (Inj.), LT Myles Hinton and both RBs Kalel Mullings/Donovan Edwards. I cannot help but think that the Ohio State game was Michigan’s icing on the cake, and I question how much seasoned talent will be on the field for UM. Accordingly, I’m taking Alabama to score OVER 27.5 points.” Listen to the Bet the Edge podcast as hosts Jay Croucher and Drew Dinsick provide listeners with sharp actionable insight, market analysis and statistical data to help bettors gain more information before placing their wagers. Quarterback matchup for 2024 Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl Alabama vs. Michigan Michigan: The quarterback three-man-weave between Davis Warren, Alex Orji and Jack Tuttle failed in their effort to replicate departed QB JJ McCarthy’s success. Orji was notably behind the others in terms of passing acumen, producing just 148 passing yards on 43 attempts before mercifully being pulled in favor of Indiana transfer Jack Tuttle. Tuttle was barely serviceable before retiring and turning the job back to Warren. Since being reinserted into the starting role against Michigan State in Week 9, Warren has been a steady, if unspectacular, steward of the UM offense completing 63.6% of his passes with a 6-to-9 TD/INT ratio while averaging a mundane 5.7 yards per pass attempt. To his credit, Warren threw 6 interceptions through his first three starts, but since regaining the job in Week 9 he has turned the ball over just three times while fielding a respectable 68th percentile PFF offensive grade on the year. Alabama: QB Jalen Milroe took over the Alabama starting quarterback job in 2023 and proceeded to average 10.0 yards per attempt with a 23-to-6 ratio while earning an 88.7 overall grade that ranked 14th nationally. A great deal of Milroe’s value derives from his legs, rushing 313 times for 1,250 yards and 32 touchdowns over the last two years with an 85.3 run grade that ranked 3rd in FBS last year. His passing acumen has lagged a bit this season averaging 9.1 YPA with a 15-to-10 ratio and an 81.2 passing grade that ranks 23rd overall. Milroe made major strides handling the pass rush this season, going from a 31.9 pressure-to-sack rate to a much improved 17.1%. Alabama vs. Michigan: Betting Trends & Recent Stats Davis Warren has not completed a pass for 40+ yards on any of his 202 total passing attempts since the 2023 season, worst among Power Conference quarterbacks Michigan are 2-6 (.250) against the spread when converting less than 50% of third down conversion opportunities this season, 11th-worst in FBS. (Average: .440) Michigan’s offense has thrown for 20 or more yards on just 5.8% of 293 attempts this season, the 2nd-worst rate among FBS offenses. Alabama’s defense allowed 20+ yards on just 7.9% of attempts this season, 23rd-best among FBS defenses. Michigan are 1-4 (.200) against the spread when allowing 100 or more rushing yards this season, 10th-worst among Power Conference teams. (Average: .424) Kalel Mullings has rushed for 10 or more yards on just 16 of his 185 carries this season, tied for 4th-worst among Power Conference running backs. QB Davis Warren has thrown for first downs on just 23% of his pass attempts with 7-10 yards to go this season, 5th-worst among Power Conference Quarterbacks. Establishing manageable 3rd Down situations will be vital for Michigan. Ryan Williams has gained 40+ yards on 7 of his 45 receptions this season, best among Power Conference Skill Players. Germie Bernard has gained 20+ yards on 17 of his 46 receptions this season, 4th-best among Power Conference Skill Players. Alabama has tackled opponents for a loss on just 63-of-436 rushing attempts (14% TFL%) this season, 3rd-worst in the SEC. Michigan has gained 1,603 yards on 179 receptions (just 9.0 YPR) this season, worst among Big Ten skill players. Alabama’s defense has allowed just 10.2 Yards Per Reception this season, 2nd-best among SEC defenses. OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) — Tuomas Uronen scored at 1:46 of overtime to give Finland a 4-3 victory over the defending champion United States on Sunday in the world junior hockey championship. Uronen, who plays for the Kingston Frontenacs in the Ontario Hockey League, came down the right side on a rush and beat goalie Trey Augustine high to the glove side. The Americans lost for the first time in three games. They'll finish Group A play Tuesday night against Canada. Finland has won two straight after an opening loss to Canada. In the late game at Canadian Tire Centre, Carter George made 18 saves to help Canada rebound from an overtime loss to Latvia with a 3-0 victory over Germany. Jesse Kiiskinen, Julius Miettinen and Arttu Alasiurua also scored for Finland, and Petteri Rimpinen made 41 saves. Carey Terrance of the Erie Otters of the OHL, Cole Hutson of Boston University and Brody Ziemer of Minnesota scored for the United States. Augustine, from Michigan State, stopped 29 shots. For Canada, Oliver Bonk opened the scoring midway through the first period, Caden Price made it 2-0 with 4:58 left in the game and Mathieu Cataford added an empty-netter. In Group B at TD Place, Sweden and Czechia each improved to 3-0 ahead of their showdown Tuesday night in the round-robin finale. Tom Willander had two goals and assist in Sweden's 7-5 victory over Switzerland. Eduard Sale scored twice to help Czechia beat Slovakia 4-2. ___ AP sports: https://apnews.com/sports The Associated PressCLEVELAND (AP) — Shortly after doing a face-down snow angel, firing a few celebratory snowballs and singing “Jingle Bells” on his way to the media room, Jameis Winston ended his postgame news conference with a simple question. “Am I a Brown yet?” he asked. He is now. And who knows? Maybe for a lot longer than expected. Winston entered Cleveland football folklore on Thursday night by leading the Browns to a 24-19 win over the division rival Pittsburgh Steelers, who had their five-game winning streak stopped. Winston's performance at Huntington Bank Field, which transformed into the world's largest snow globe, not only made him an instantaneous hero in the eyes of Browns fans but added another wrinkle to the team's ever-changing, never-ending quarterback conundrum. In his fourth start since Deshaun Watson's season-ending Achilles tendon injury, Winston made enough big plays to help the Browns (3-8) get a victory that should quiet conjecture about coach Kevin Stefanski's job. Some wins mean more than others. In Cleveland, beating the Steelers is as big as it gets. But beyond any instant gratification, Winston has given the Browns more to consider as they move forward. Watson's future with Cleveland is highly uncertain since it will still be months before the team has a grip on whether he's even an option in 2025, his fourth year since signing a $230 million, fully guaranteed contract that has proven calamitous. It's also possible the Browns will cut ties with Watson. They signed Winston to a one-year contract to be Watson's backup. But the unexpected events of 2024 have changed plans and led to the possibility that the 30-year-old Winston could become Cleveland's full-time QB or a bridge to their next young one. So much is unclear. What's not is that Winston, who leaped into the end zone on fourth-and-2 for a TD to put the Browns ahead 18-6 in the fourth quarter, is a difference maker. With his larger-than-life personality and the joy he shows whether practicing or throwing three touchdown passes, he has lifted the Browns. A man of faith, he's made his teammates believe. Winston has done what Watson couldn't: made the Browns better. “A very, very authentic person,” Stefanski said Friday on a Zoom call. “He’s the same guy every single day. He's the same guy at 5 a.m. as he at 5 p.m. He brings great energy to everything he does, and I think his teammates appreciate that about him.” Winston, who is 2-2 as a starter with wins over the Steelers and Baltimore Ravens, has a knack for inspiring through fiery, preacher-like pregame speeches. But what has impressed the Browns is his ability to stay calm in the storm. “He doesn’t get rattled,” said Myles Garrett, who had three sacks against the Steelers . “He’s just tuned in and focused as anyone I’ve seen at that position. Turn the page. There was a turnover, came back to the sideline, ‘Love you. I’m sorry. We’re going to get it back.’ He was already on to the next one, ‘How can we complete the mission?’ “I have a lot of respect for him. First was from afar and now seeing it on the field in front of me, it’s a blessing to have someone who plays a game with such a passion and want-to. You can’t ask for a better teammate when they take those things to heart and they want to play for you like we’re actually brothers and that’s what we have to attain. That brotherhood.” Winston has done something else Watson couldn't: move the offense. The Browns scored more than 20 points for just the second time this season, and like Joe Flacco a year ago, Winston has shown that Stefanski's system works with a quarterback patient enough to let plays develop and unafraid to take shots downfield. The conditions certainly were a factor, but the Browns were a miserable 1 of 10 on third down, a season-long trend. However, Cleveland converted all four fourth-down tries, including a fourth-and-3 pass from Winston to Jerry Jeudy with 2:36 left that helped set up Nick Chubb's go-ahead TD run. RT Jack Conklin. Garrett outplayed Steelers star T.J. Watt in their rivalry within the rivalry partly because Conklin did a nice job containing Pittsburgh's edge rusher, who was held without a sack and had one tackle for loss. Conklin has made a remarkable comeback since undergoing reconstructive knee surgery last year. Owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam. Their desire to build a dome is well intended, but an indoor game could never come close to matching the surreal setting of Thursday night, when snow swirled throughout the stadium and covered nearly all the yard lines and hash marks. “It was beautiful,” Winston said. WR Cedric Tillman is in the concussion protocol. He had two catches before taking a big hit on the final play of the third quarter. 9 — Consecutive home wins for the Browns in Thursday night games. Three of those have come against Pittsburgh. An extended break before visiting the Denver Broncos on Dec. 2. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFL
Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Making its contribution to improving rural life through innovative research, Indian Institute of Technology Indore has developed an alternative to cold storage facilities for preserving vegetables and grains. The system employs Photodynamic Inactivation (PDI) of microbes using a specially designed kit. This kit utilises a safe, derivatised Vitamin B2 spray as a photosensitiser and a flash visible light source at effective wavelengths of 455 and 476 nm. The City, in partnership with Wilmington Water and the University of Delaware Water Resources Center , is leading the charge against lead contamination with its groundbreaking Service Line Inventory Map . This ambitious initiative not only ensures Wilmington’s compliance with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) revised Lead and Copper Rule, but it also positions the city as a beacon of progress for public health and infrastructure reform. Over the last two years, eight dedicated University of Delaware students, guided by the Water Resources Center’s Martha Narvaez and Andrew Homsey, undertook a monumental task—reviewing more than 70,000 water service work orders spanning back to 1916. It wasn’t a simple assignment. These records ranged from handwritten cursive notes a century old to data processed using cutting-edge artificial intelligence and modern GIS technology. But through this painstaking detective work, these students provided Wilmington a clear and detailed account of its water system, including key details like service line materials, installation dates, sizes, and locations. “This project isn’t just about satisfying regulations—it’s about protecting lives,” said a spokesperson for Wilmington Water. What lies beneath our homes and streets matters. Lead pipes pose a significant health risk, particularly to children, and the EPA’s renewed focus on the Lead and Copper Rule serves as a wake-up call for cities nationwide. Ensuring that service line data is accurate and comprehensive allows municipalities to tackle these risks head-on while paving the way for real progress. The inventory project highlights the extraordinary fusion of legacy and innovation. By blending historical city plans, inspection records, and insights from modern systems, the team created a roadmap for identifying the lead service lines that must be replaced. “This partnership demonstrates how a community’s collective resources—government, academia, and private residents—can unite to achieve powerful results,” remarked project leaders. And make no mistake, this is no small feat. Cities like Wilmington face the monumental challenge of not only mapping public water lines but also tracking private service lines owned by residents. That’s where partnerships like this shine, showing how coordinated efforts can surmount even the most complicated infrastructures. But compliance is just the beginning. Wilmington’s Service Line Inventory Map project is emerging as a guide for other cities across Delaware and nationwide. With utilities struggling to meet EPA mandates, Wilmington’s initiative sets an example of collaboration, transparency, and results-oriented problem-solving. The Water Resources Center hopes this effort will become a state and national standard. Integral to this initiative is the active role residents play. Wilmington calls on its community to help identify private service lines by participating in online surveys or contacting city services directly. The collective effort will ensure the city meets its goals while continuing to safeguard its residents from contamination risks. This is not just about following rules—it’s about stepping up with bold action to protect the health of a community, inspire collaboration, and stand as a model for resilience and innovation. Wilmington isn’t simply meeting the EPA’s standards; it’s setting the bar for how cities tackle challenges that define our shared future. NoneWARSAW, Ind. , Nov. 25, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- Zimmer Biomet Holdings, Inc. (NYSE and SIX: ZBH), a global medical technology leader, today announced U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Premarket Approval Application (PMA) Supplement approval for the Oxford ® Cementless Partial Knee. The approval is based on safety and effectiveness data from an Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) study and non-clinical testing for cementless partial knee replacement (PKR). 1 The Oxford Cementless Partial Knee allows surgeons to perform a PKR with improved fixation, 2 better long-term implant survival rate 2,3 and improved efficiency in the operating room 4 (OR) compared to the Oxford Cemented Partial Knee procedure. Following more than 20 years of clinical experience and over 300,000 procedures across Canada , Europe , Middle East , Africa , and Asia , 5 the Oxford Cementless Partial Knee is now the only FDA-approved cementless partial knee implant in the U.S. "Cementless knee replacement procedures are increasingly preferred by surgeons seeking to improve surgical efficiency. The Oxford Cementless Partial Knee is coming into the U.S. with a proven track record of retaining more healthy anatomy with a less invasive approach and improved outcomes 6 as compared to a total knee replacement," said Joe Urban , President, Knees at Zimmer Biomet. "We are excited to address the unmet U.S. demand for a cementless partial knee with a new offering which has 20 years of clinical experience in more than 50 countries. 5 " Compared to traditional partial knee replacements that use bone cement to secure the implant in place, a cementless approach allows patients' natural bone growth to secure the implant for better long-term fixation. 2 The Oxford Cementless Partial Knee features a mobile bearing that can move with the femoral component throughout the entire range of motion to mimic natural knee movement. This design provides better range of motion, a more natural feel and a more stable implant-to-bone fixation for improved long-term implant survival. 2,3 The system's tibial and femoral components have a titanium and hydroxyapatite coating to promote bone growth into the implant 7 . The UK national joint registry has more than 33,000 patients treated with Oxford Cementless Partial Knees recorded with a 94.1% rate of implant survival at 10 years after surgery, 3 which is higher than the average 10-year survivorship for all other partial knees (89.9%). 3 Enthusiasm and usage of partial knee replacement continues to grow around the world as published research continues to demonstrate that PKR in appropriate cases provides improved patient outcomes compared to TKR. 6 "For younger and more active patients, the Oxford Cementless Partial Knee amplifies the benefits of a traditional partial knee replacement by offering knee flexion that resembles natural knee movement, and stronger adhesion of the implant to the bone for better long-term durability," said Adolph V. Lombardi Jr. , MD, FACS, President of JIS Orthopedics in New Albany, Ohio . "In my own practice, a cementless approach has increased OR efficiency by shortening my surgery time and reducing costs associated with cement preparation." Since its initial launch in England in 2004, the Oxford Cementless Partial Knee has become the preferred partial knee implant for Zimmer Biomet's European customers. 5 As part of the U.S. nationwide launch in Q1 2025, Zimmer Biomet will provide FDA-required training, focusing on the cementless surgical technique and proper patient selection. For patients in the U.S., the Oxford Partial Knee is the only implant with a lifetime limited warranty that covers the cost of Zimmer Biomet replacement implants.* Important Safety Information: The Cementless Oxford Partial Knee System is intended for use in unilateral knee procedures with osteoarthritis or avascular necrosis limited to the medial compartment of the knee. It is intended to be implanted without the application of cement for patients whose clinical condition would benefit from a shorter surgical time compared to the cemented implant. The Oxford Partial Knee is not indicated for use in the lateral compartment or for patients with ligament deficiency, or for use in simultaneous bilateral surgery or planned staged bilateral procedures. Potential risks include, but are not limited to, loosening, dislocation, fracture, wear and infection, any of which can require additional surgery.
