Jake Paul wants “to set the record straight,” when no straightening is required. If anyone would understand that we moved on from his “fight” against Mike Tyson, it should be Paul, who has made a fortune in the split-second entertainment world of social media. Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions issued a statement on Monday to dispel the rumor that his fight at AT&T Stadium on Nov. 15 against Tyson was rigged. The intention is to change the narrative of what was an embarrassing, if highly profitable, evening, and maintain the interest in Paul’s boxing career. The fight was not rigged, and no statement was needed. The fight was simply awful. The statement begins: “Following the wide circulation of incorrect and baseless claims that undermine the integrity of the Paul vs. Tyson event, Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) would like to set the record straight regarding the contractual agreements and the nature of the fight.” “Integrity” and “Tyson v. Paul” have no business of being in the same sentence. “Rigging a professional boxing match is a federal crime in the United States of America. Paul vs. Tyson was a professional match sanctioned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR). Both fighters in good faith performed to the best of their abilities with the goal of winning the fight,” the statement said. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations did sanction this kitten fight between a Disney kid turned YouTuber against a 58-year-old man with serious health issues. The fight had judges, and Paul was awarded a decision when none was needed. “Best of their abilities” is subjective. After landing one of his first punches, a left to Paul’s head, Tyson looked like he may have something in what was once one of the most feared boxers who ever lived. He flashed some of that old Tyson head movement, but mostly he looked like an old boxer. Because that’s what he is. The event quickly became an awkward money grab embarrassment, an indictment on the ticket-buying audience more than the promoters, who were doing their job, and leaving Netflix blushing over streaming issues. “There were absolutely no restrictions – contractual or otherwise – around either fighter. Each boxer was able to use his full arsenal to win the fight. Any agreement to the contrary would violate TDLR boxing rules,” the statement said. No restrictions is a liberal use of the term. The fight was eight rounds, not 10 or 12. The rounds lasted two minutes, not three. The gloves the boxers used were 14 oz., not 10. President Jimmy Carter could take a few shots from a 14 oz. glove. The statement continues, “Trash talk and speculation are common in sports, and athletes and promoters need to tolerate nonsensical commentary, jokes and opinions. But suggesting anything other than full effort from these fighters is not only naïve but an insult to the work they put into their craft and to the sport itself.” Accusations of rigged outcomes have been hurled at sporting events in the United States since the New York Nine defeated the Knickerbockers 23-1 in four innings, the first recorded baseball game ever played in America, in 1846. The New York Nine did not release a statement to the press that the game was rigged. Such accusations are hallow, but every now and then there is a Chicago Black Sox. “It is further illogical and inane that MVP, in the debut of a hopeful long-term partnership with the world’s biggest streamer—an organization that made its first-ever foray into live professional sports with Paul vs. Tyson—would even so much as consider such a perverse violation of the rules of competition,” the statement said. That’s not how rigged works. You don’t tell the broadcast partner that the live event is staged. Making sure his boss knows he’s working, MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian issued his own words to this statement, saying, “This is not the first time Jake Paul has faced unfounded skepticism or outright disbelief as a professional athlete, and frankly, the claim that his bout must have been rigged is just the latest backhanded compliment to come his way.” Paul, 27, beat a 58-year-old man in a fight that looked like two-hand touch. There is no compliment. “From day one in this sport, people have doubted his abilities — unable to reconcile how someone with his background has accomplished so much in such a short time. Jake has not only proven himself repeatedly, but he has continuously set historic records that speak for themselves,” Bidarian wrote. Paul has created a niche for himself in the sport by carefully fighting opponents who are names, but are not boxers. Older guys. Ex-UFC fighters looking for one more check. He’s also spent the necessary time to train, and learn how to box. He knows how to promote himself, and an event. He created “boxing entertainment,” but his fights are not traditional boxing matches. They are also not scripted WWE. “As long as Jake continues to exceed expectations, there will always be those who try to discredit his achievements.” Bidarian said. “We embrace the doubt — it only fuels Jake to work harder and achieve greater success.” Herein lies the “need” for this press statement. Paul wants to continue to fight, but not against fighters who may knock him out. Considering the type of money his fights have generated, he would have no problem finding a line of potential traditional opponents waiting to pummel him through the canvas. He has avoided real fighters for a reason. Because he’s smart. Because he can. Because there is a market for the fights he stages. The fallout from his bout against Tyson is that Paul could have unintentionally knocked out the audience for these matches that are staged, not rigged, which is really why he wants to “set the record straight.” ©2024 Fort Worth Star-Telegram. London: For all the rousing revelry and festive fizz that Christmas Day can bring, for some it only ramps up the confusion and anxiety. Older relatives may find it more of a slog to host than they are used to; if they are the guests, a lively new setting can compound the feelings of bewilderment and grumpiness. But when do signs of stress actually signify something more serious? Elizabeth Leonard, 58, recalls how a few years ago, her previously capable, cheerful mother, then aged 71, had an uncharacteristic outburst a few days before Christmas – picking a fight when normally she would do anything to avoid confrontation. On Christmas Day itself she said she couldn’t cook the turkey because there was something wrong with the oven. Elizabeth took over the cooking and found it was working perfectly. It marked the beginning of a long road to accepting that there might be something wrong, followed eventually by a diagnosis of dementia. A Christmas meal disaster could be a clue. Credit: Getty Images/iStockphoto “It’s a time for making memories, but it’s often during Christmas that we realise that something isn’t quite right with someone,” says Simon Wheeler, a senior knowledge officer at the Alzheimer’s Society. “At first it may seem like a momentary lapse – perhaps just a sign of getting old – but after a while you start to become concerned.” Different types of dementia can cause varying symptoms – from memory loss to difficulty with everyday tasks – that can often be picked up on in a social setting. The most common kind of dementia is Alzheimer’s (early symptoms include confusion and short-term memory problems), followed by vascular dementia (problems with planning and concentration) and Lewy bodies dementia (this includes Parkinson’s dementia, difficulty focusing and delusions). Some symptoms, such as memory loss, are common to many dementias – especially in the early stages. Here’s what to look out for and what to do if you’re worried about a relative this Christmas. Forgetfulness Forgetfulness, as a symptom of dementia, generally applies to short-term memory. “People might be able to sit there and talk about Christmas 10 years ago and remember all the details,” says Angelo Makri, also a senior knowledge officer at the Alzheimer’s Society. “But if you ask them what they did yesterday and they can’t answer, that’s where you know [there may be a problem]“, as well as forgetting people’s names, or their relationship with someone; for example a nephew or niece that they haven’t seen for a year. Of course, as we get older, it is normal to experience an element of memory lapse – so when should you worry? “It will be things that are out of character for that person. With dementia, it is progressive and so can affect daily living. “The person that forgets to put the turkey in the oven, or burns the turkey, may be forgetting to put the oven on for dinner every day.” Repeating questions “As with memory loss, this is quite consistent across all types of dementia and it can happen quite early,” says Makri. “Someone might ask a question over and over again, and it gets to a point where you realise they’re not retaining this information. It’s quite upsetting to witness.” Wheeler adds: “The first noticeable sign of Alzheimer’s disease is typically failing episodic memory. This is when a person has trouble encoding new memories of events and is caused by damage to regions of the brain called the hippocampus and the entorhinal cortex. “It’s declining episodic memory that causes the ‘saying the same thing, over and over’ symptom because the person doesn’t recall having said it previously. They never stored the memory in the first place so it doesn’t inform their future thoughts and actions.” Difficulties in carrying out old family traditions may hint at difficulties with daily tasks. Credit: Getty Images Difficulty carrying out familiar daily tasks While a complex matter like making a whole Christmas dinner would be enough to confuse a lot of us, there may be a problem if someone has difficulty carrying out one familiar job. “For example, if the same person always does the stuffing every year and then they forget to bring the ingredients, or they forget the process of how to do it. People will begin to have difficulty remembering the process of something, or planning, or concentrating.” Difficulty with tech “Confusion with technology is not, of course, specific to people living with dementia,” says Wheeler. “However, people with dementia can – and do – struggle with technology. “As their condition deteriorates over time, their brain will increasingly struggle to process information and think clearly, meaning that technologies that were once easy to use and navigate, for example a mobile phone or a laptop, may become increasingly difficult to use.” Time spent at end-of-year celebrations can bring comfort to the elderly and also a greater understanding of where they are at. Credit: Tribune Difficulty following a conversation “People can have difficulty finding the right word, or just following the thread of a conversation.” says Makri. “They might take longer to process the information they’ve heard, or they might just not be communicating very much. Sometimes they will become a bit withdrawn. They retreat slightly because, actually, they can’t follow the thread of the conversation any more.” Wheeler adds that although people with vascular dementia may not have problems with memory at first, in the context of a conversation they may easily lose the thread, either because they get distracted, they get overwhelmed by too much information, or because their working memory – the ability to keep a thought in your head for a few seconds or more – isn’t working as well as it used to. Spatial and temporal awareness This can be a symptom of all types of dementia. “Sometimes people might be confused about the time or the place,” says Makri. “They might not realise whose house they’re in, or not remember where the loo is. They might know it’s Christmas because they’re sitting at a Christmas table with a turkey in front of them, but they might not remember what year it is.” Difficulty controlling emotions The key is whether their behaviour is out of character. “If this is someone who’s always got really angry or anxious about politics, then you might not worry. But if this is someone who doesn’t normally react this way at that point, if they’re suddenly having mood swings and having difficulty controlling their emotions, then this might be an early sign [of some forms of dementia].” People with vascular dementia in particular tend to be more prone to mood problems as well as fatigue, and difficulty concentrating. Inappropriate behaviour This is more of a problem with frontotemporal dementia, a less common type of dementia that involves degeneration in the frontal or temporal lobes of the brain. Early symptoms include changes in personality and behaviour, and/or language difficulties. “You may find a person becomes less inhibited; they might suddenly start saying or doing inappropriate things,” says Makri. Being suddenly suspicious Although this isn’t present with Alzheimer’s, vascular or many other types of dementia, Lewy body dementia – a broad term which includes ‘dementia with Lewy bodies’ and Parkinson’s dementia – can cause delusional beliefs or hallucinations. “Having incorrect beliefs could potentially be an early symptom,” Makri explains. “At that point it’s generally quite mild, but certainly saying something like ‘the neighbours keep having a go at me’, or having a suspicion that the neighbours are talking about them,” could be a sign that something is amiss. What should you do next? Firstly, how much should you worry? “Many of the early symptoms can be caused by other things,” says Makri. “We always say you can’t make a diagnosis at the dinner table. But if someone is presenting with a lot of these symptoms it is a good idea for them to speak to the GP.” The GP will generally carry out tests to rule out other causes, including thyroid deficiencies, urinary tract infection (UTIs) and vitamin B12 deficiency, which can all cause confusion. But how to broach the topic sensitively? Makri suggests that, after speaking to other people who were present, to nominate one close family member to bring this up with the person in question. It’s also helpful to keep notes of the symptoms. MRI brain scans showing different dementia types. Credit: Boston University Ideally, the person themselves will go to the GP, who may then follow up with a referral to a memory clinic and possibly a brain scan. If the person is in denial – which can itself be a part of dementia – a family member can ring the GP and pass on their concerns, and while the GP won’t be able to comment because of patient confidentiality, they may be able to follow up with the patient. Identity Verification Market: USD 11.55B in 2023 to USD 39.73B by 2031FIUGGI, Italy (AP) — Foreign ministers from the world’s leading industrialized nations expressed cautious optimism Monday about possible progress on a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah. The top diplomats met for the final time before a new U.S. administration takes office with wars raging in the Mideast and Ukraine. “Knock on wood,” Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said as he opened the Group of Seven meeting outside Rome. “We are perhaps close to a ceasefire in Lebanon," he said. "Let's hope it's true and that there's no backing down at the last-minute.” A ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon was foremost on the agenda of the G7 meeting in Fiuggi, outside Rome, that gathered ministers from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States, in the last G7 encounter of the Biden administration. For the first time, the G7 ministers were joined by their counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, the so-called “Arab Quintet,” as well as the Secretary General of the Arab League. “Everyone favors a ceasefire in both scenarios,” Tajani told reporters, adding that Italy had offered to take on an even greater peacekeeping role in Lebanon to oversee any ceasefire deal. As the ministers arrived in Italy, Israel’s ambassador to the U.S., Mike Herzog, told Israeli Army Radio on Monday a ceasefire deal to end fighting between Israel and the Lebanon-based Hezbollah could be reached “within days.” Several Arab ministers reiterated calls for a ceasefire in both Lebanon and Gaza during a G7-affiliated conference in Rome. “We need a ceasefire, a permanent ceasefire. That will stop the killings and stop the destruction and restore a sense of normalcy to life,” Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi told the conference. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, for his part, reaffirmed that Cairo would host a minister-level conference next Monday on mobilizing international aid for Gaza. The so-called “Quintet” has been working with the U.S. to finalize a “day after” plan for Gaza. There is some urgency to make progress before the Trump administration takes over in January. President-elect Donald Trump is expected to pursue a policy that strongly favors Israel over the aspirations of the Palestinians. Tajani added another item to the G7 agenda last week after the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his former defense minister and Hamas’ military chief. Italy is a founding member of the court and hosted the 1998 Rome conference that gave birth to it. But Italy’s right-wing government has been a strong supporter of Israel after the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks, while also providing humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza. The Italian government has taken a cautious line, reaffirming its support and respect for the court but expressing concern that the warrants were politically motivated. The United States, Israel's closest ally, has called the warrants “outrageous.” Tajani acknowledged consensus hadn't been reached among the G7 members but hoped for agreement to have a unified position. He noted that all sides need Netanyahu to make any deal. “We can also not agree with how his government has led the reaction after the massacre of Oct. 7, but now we have to deal with Netanyahu to arrive at peace in Lebanon, peace in Palestine,” Tajani said. Nathalie Tocci, director of the Rome-based Institute for International Affairs think tank, warned that inserting the ICC warrant into the G7 agenda was risky, since the U.S. is the lone member that is not a signatory to the court and yet tends to dictate the G7 line. “If Italy and the other (five G7) signatories of the ICC are unable to maintain the line on international law, they will not only erode it anyway but will be acting against our interests,” Tocci wrote in La Stampa daily this weekend, recalling Italy’s recourse to international law in demanding protection for Italian U.N. peacekeepers who have come under fire in southern Lebanon. The other major talking point of the G7 meeting is Ukraine , and tensions have only heightened since Russia attacked Ukraine last week with an experimental, hypersonic ballistic missile that escalated the nearly 33-month-old war. Russian President Vladimir Putin said the strike was retaliation for Kyiv’s use of U.S. and British longer-range missiles capable of striking deeper into Russian territory. The G7 has been at the forefront of providing military and economic support for Ukraine since Russia’s invasion in February 2022 and G7 members are particularly concerned about how a Trump administration will change the U.S. approach. Trump has criticized the billions of dollars that the Biden administration has poured into Ukraine and has said he could end the war in 24 hours, comments that appear to suggest he would press Ukraine to surrender territory that Russia now occupies. “It’s hugely important that this G7, that all colleagues across the G7 continue to stand with Ukraine for as long as it lasts,” British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said as he arrived. He announced new sanctions on vessels of Russia's “shadow fleet” of ships that are evading sanctions to export Russian oil. “And we are confident that Ukraine can have the funds and the military equipment and kit to get through 2025,” Lammy said. The G7 foreign ministers’ meeting, the second of the Italian presidency after ministers gathered in Capri in April , is being held in the medieval town of Fiuggi southeast of Rome, best known for its thermal spas. On Monday, which coincides with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, ministers were attending the inauguration of a red bench meant to symbolize Italy’s focus on fighting gender-based violence. Over the weekend, tens of thousands of people marched in Rome to protest gender-based violence , which in Italy so far this year has claimed the lives of 99 women, according to a report last week by the Eures think tank. Get local news delivered to your inbox!NINGDE, China , Dec. 24, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- On December 24th, CATL officially launched the CATL Bedrock Chassis, the world's first ultra-safe skateboard chassis. With its outstanding performance of withstanding 120 km/h frontal impact without catching fire or exploding, CATL's Bedrock Chassis sets a new standard for intelligent chassis safety, providing comprehensive protection across all scenarios and speed ranges. Lead the industry with the most stringent safety tests With the battery-centered design, CATL's Bedrock Chassis utilizes Cell-to-Chassis integration technology, which directly integrates the battery cells into the chassis, allowing for a shared structural design between them. And based on the decoupling of the chassis from the upper body, the Bedrock Chassis is capable of absorbing 85% of the vehicle's collision energy (compared to around 60% absorbed by traditional chassis). Through various technological breakthroughs, the Bedrock Chassis successfully passed the world's first "highest speed + strongest impact" dual extreme safety test. This achievement enables the chassis to pass the 120 km/h frontal central pole impact test without catching fire, exploding or thermal runway, redefining the benchmark for safety in the industry. Currently, the speed for frontal impact safety test in the commonly used C-NCAP (China New Car Assessment Program) is 56km/h, which, when experiencing a frontal impact at this speed, generates collision energy equivalent to falling from 12-meter-high building. In comparison, a frontal impact at 120km/h is equivalent to falling from a 56-meter-high building, generating a collision energy 4.6 times that of collision at 56km/h. In more stringent frontal pole crash tests, which simulate crashes with non-standard objects such as power poles, large trees, or animals, the impact area is only 1/6 of that in a full-width frontal impact, exponentially increasing impact pressure. At a speed of 120km/h, the impact pressure on the chassis per unit area in a frontal central pole impact is 21 times that of the 56 km/h full-width frontal impact in C-NCAP testing. Due to the extremely high crash speed and intensity, there has been no previous instance of any new energy vehicle daring to challenge a 120km/h frontal pole impact test. With this extreme challenge, CATL's Bedrock Chassis has blazed a fresh trail for the industry. Open the era of ultra-safe transportation through three technological breakthroughs CATL's Bedrock Chassis has delved deep into the realm of structure and material innovation, leveraging three technological breakthroughs to provide unparalleled protection in all scenarios and speed ranges, ensuring rock-solid safety for the entire vehicle. The CATL Bedrock Chassis introduces a revolutionary three-dimensional biomimetic tortoise shell structure, where the body and energy unit framework are integrated, deeply coupled to provide the energy unit with indestructible protection. And its aircraft carrier-grade arresting structure disperses impact forces across multiple pathways during a crash, gradually decelerating the vehicle and significantly reducing the depth and speed at which obstacles intrude the cabin. The utilization of submarine-grade hot-formed steel with a strength of 2000MPa, aerospace-grade aluminum alloy with a strength of 600MPa, and multiple barrier structures further enhance the chassis' rigidity, making it virtually impervious. Moreover, the CATL Bedrock Chassis incorporates an ultra-safe battery cell design, NP technology, and a high-ductility energy-absorbing insulation film, leading the industry in a groundbreaking manner. In terms of high-voltage disconnection, it achieves instantaneous disconnection of high voltage circuit within 0.01 seconds of impact and completes the discharge of residual high-voltage energy in the vehicle within 0.2 seconds, setting a new industry record. Notably, the battery cells have undergone highly demanding tests, including high-speed sled impact tests at 60 km/h, 90-degree bending tests, and breakthrough sawing tests, the battery did not catch fire or explode across all three tests. These tests, all industry-firsts by CATL, have elevated the safety standards of battery cells to new heights. Unlocking the era of customization, and activating a trillion-yuan market The launch of the Bedrock Chassis not only redefines the standard for intelligent chassis safety but also activates a trillion-yuan market. It greatly accelerates the shift towards modular, personalized, and intelligent automotive design. Addressing the common pain points of high investment, long development cycles, and accelerated product iteration in the industry, the Bedrock Chassis incorporates three core characteristics: internal integration, decoupling of the chassis from the upper body, and external openness. With a rich array of toolkits and solution packages, it offers a scalable software and hardware architecture and standardized interfaces, enabling flexible configurations for different vehicle models and scenarios. This allows the realization of a "one chassis architecture, multiple vehicle models" concept and significantly improves development efficiency and shortens the R&D cycle. The time required for mass production of a vehicle is reduced from the traditional 36 months or longer to 12 to 18 months. Furthermore, the Bedrock Chassis breaks the limits of safety and modeling, and expands design flexibility through the design of decoupling of the chassis from the upper body. The fourth-generation Cell-to-Chassis (CTC) technology and inverted battery cell technology enhance the utilization of chassis space while reducing the risk of chassis scraping. Additionally, in terms of intelligence, the chassis supports mechanical decoupling, software decoupling and EE decoupling, enabling L3 to L4 intelligent driving capabilities. It provides high adaptability interfaces and promotes collaborative intelligent applications. At the launch ceremony, AVATR, the first automaker to use Bedrock Chassis, and CAIT-SH, CATL's skateboard chassis arm, signed an agreement to deepen cooperation on CATL's Bedrock Chassis to create a safer, higher-quality travel experience for users. Safety is a never-ending journey. In the future, CATL will continue to break technological barriers through continuous innovation, and work with partners to build a safe ecosystem for EV batteries and vehicles, safeguarding the safety of users. Cleveland Browns add bruising tight end for Steelers game
The Christmas period is not just a great time for stuffing your gob with Celebrations and trying to avoid getting sucked up in your dad’s rubbish bag, but also for playing games. As you wait for the Doctor Who Christmas Special or the release of the new Wallace and Gromit flick away from your treasured gaming hardware, you may want to try your hand at some cloud gaming, specifically NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW Ultimate. We’ve written before about how GeForce NOW and similar streaming services are becoming more important for devices such as the Steam Deck as AAA games become more intensive. Whether you’re on your phone with some handy-dandy controller doohickey, the aforementioned Steam handheld or even on your aging Xbox One console, GeForce NOW Ultimate offers a wealth of games to play, maxed out on an RTX 4080 with the entire roster of RTX technologies: DLSS 3, NVIDIA Reflex, with full Path Tracing and all the associated goodies. Unlike a puppy, GeForce NOW can be just for Christmas, with day passes available for gaming in a pinch. Without further ado, here are the best Nvidia GeForce NOW games to play over the Christmas break. 1) Indiana Jones and The Great Circle Obviously the cream of the crop, the winner of the VideoGamer 2024 Game Awards is a must-play game on GeForce NOW. While you can play the game via streaming on Xbox’s xCloud or Game Pass Cloud or whatever they’re calling it now, you’ll only be streaming the console version of the game. With GeForce NOW Ultimate, you can stream the PC version of the game with all the bells and whistles, in glorious 4K resolution. As a game with full Ray Tracing support multitudes better than the Series X’s still-gorgeous lighting, you can experience the best game of 2024 with the ultimate visuals available without a massive desktop taking up leg room as you play. As someone who shares a living room, Indiana Jones and The Great Circle has been a great experience via GeForce NOW Ultimate for when my partner takes over the TV for an entire day of Infinity Nikki . While she’s wishing upon a star, getting fashions from afar, I can simply chill out with my Steam Deck and continue thwacking Nazis with shovels in Gizeh. 2) Alan Wake 2 While over a year old now, Alan Wake 2 is another example of a brilliant game to play through GeForce NOW, and one I completed in its entirety through the service. Another game that looks great on console, but game-changingly better on PC , GeForce NOW Ultimate allows you to stream the entire game with full RTX Path Tracing—shadows, reflections, lighting, the entire thing—onto a device of your choosing. Outside of the recency bias of Indiana Jones, Alan Wake 2 is one of the best use cases for GeForce NOW Ultimate. If your PC buckles at the sight of full Path Tracing or if you just want to experience the pinnacle of NVIDIA hardware without buying thousands of pounds worth of hardware, Alan Wake 2 streamed on GeForce NOW Ultimate is one hell of a time. 3) Cyberpunk 2077 Another game with full RTX support, Cyberpunk 2077 runs and looks phenomenal via GeForce NOW Ultimate. This is another title that technically runs on older and more budget-friendly hardware, however players won’t get anywhere near as much from the game, and its first-person view means that an unstable framerate can cause some serious motion sickness. However, GeForce NOW Ultimate’s performance is, well, flawless. With DLSS Frame Generation and NVIDIA Reflex working tirelessly on the aforementioned RTX 4080 rig, even with full Path Tracing turned on, the game runs like a dream over cloud streaming, allowing you to explore Night City with some of the best visuals in the business. Now you can enjoy immaculate views of the obscenities that make this world the most immersive dystopia in gaming. For those looking to get the most bang for their buck with GeForce NOW Ultimate, is there anything better than a massive RPG that pushes even the most powerful PCs to their limits? I thought not. 4) Black Myth: Wukong An awesome hack-and-slash adventure from Chinese developer Game Science, Black Myth: Wukong is another game that slightly suffers on console but sings on PC. Renowned for its incredible graphics, cinema-esque 3D scenes, and being uber-demanding on hardware, Black Myth: Wukong isn’t one to play on your Nan’s 10 year old laptop. Well, that was until now! Wukong’s heavier, Souls-lite style of hack-and-slash combat is perfect for NVIDIA’s cloud streaming service, and the ability to crank the stunning visuals up to 4K resolution makes it a dream to play. It also helps that the game’s performance doesn’t skip a beat when supported by DLSS 3 and Reflex, running on NVIDIA’s latest RTX-powered hardware in the cloud. 5) Party Animals As much as I would happily spend the entire holiday locked into my favourite solo titles, Christmas is, after all, a time of year to spend with family and friends. That calls for the next best thing – get everyone involved in a hilarious couch co-op game! Party Animals is just that. This realistic physics-based party brawler sees up to 4 players take control of floppy animal characters to battle it out in suitably silly maps and modes, with crazy weapons and power ups to shake up the paw-to-paw combat. Join up with another player in ‘Team Score’ mode, or maybe jump into an every-animal-for-itself game of ‘Last Stand’ for the ultimate family bragging rights over Christmas Dinner. With GeForce NOW, you don’t even have to bring your personal PC or console home with you – just log in and play on any of your parents’ smart devices. One thing’s for sure: streaming Party Animals is sure to spice up your cozy Christmas evenings. Subscribe to GeForce NOW Ultimate in 2024 to get unlimited playtime for the entirety of 2025!OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Creighton point guard Steven Ashworth likely won't play Tuesday in the No. 21 Bluejays' game against San Diego State in the Players Era Festival in Las Vegas. Ashworth sprained his right ankle late in a loss to Nebraska on Friday, and coach Greg McDermott said he didn't know how long he would be out. “He stepped on a guy's foot on a 3-point shot and you're defenseless in that situation," McDermott said after the game. "He torqued it pretty good.” An athletic department spokesman said Monday that Ashworth's status was doubtful for the game against the Aztecs. Ashworth is Creighton's second-leading scorer with 16 points per game and leads the team with 6.4 assists per game. He also is 23 of 23 on free throws. The University of New England campus in Biddeford. Photo courtesy of the University of New England Starting next fall, high-achieving students from low-income families will be able to attend the University of New England tuition-free. The Biddeford- and Portland-based private university announced the program Monday after a spate of similar moves by colleges across the country. President James Herbert said it’s an extension of the university’s long-time mission of making education more accessible for low-income and first-generation students. “Our goal, quite simply, is to be able to provide access to this transformative educational experience to as many students as we can,” Herbert said. In order to qualify for free tuition at UNE, students need to have an annual family income of less than $100,000 and a Student Aid Index of 0. That’s the number calculated by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, form to determine eligibility for aid. Students must enroll full time and live on campus for all four years of their degree. Students also need at least a 3.85 unweighted high school GPA to qualify. Once admitted, they’ll have to maintain a 3.5 cumulative GPA for continued eligibility. Free tuition does not apply retroactively to current UNE students. The program will cover up to four years of tuition, but does not include residential or dining costs. According to UNE, there are 21 current students who would be eligible for free tuition, while about 75 applicants last year met the criteria. But the university is hoping the offer draws in more eligible applicants. Total enrollment for this year Herbert anticipates the number of new students drawn in by the program will be “in the dozens, not the hundreds.” And he said the cost to the university should be just a few thousand dollars per students, since students who are eligible for free tuition would have already qualified for need-based financial aid and merit-based scholarships. Herbert said 98% of UNE students already receive some amount of financial aid. “We only have limited funds, so this is our first step, but what I really hope is to grow the program over time,” Herbert said. He said the funding for free tuition comes from donations – both from alumni and nonaffiliated supporters – and from the school’s institutional financial aid budget. The university is in the midst of a fundraising campaign, which Herbert said has been focused on raising money for student scholarships. “It’s just a question of funds,” he said. “It’s not a philosophical thing at all, I would love to be able to apply it retroactively to current students. It’s just that we have to start somewhere.” He said the same is true for students below the 3.85 GPA threshold, another expansion he would hope to make if the university has a successful first year and has the funds to scale up the program. UNE was one of half a dozen schools across the U.S. including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and University of Texas System, that announced free tuition for students this week. At MIT, any student whose family makes under $200,000 annually can attend tuition-free starting in the fall. Herbert said that while MIT is an extremely selective university with a massive endowment, UNE is focused on offering free tuition with access and workforce in mind. “Maine, in particular, has major gaps in its workforce,” Herbert said. He said UNE sees itself as critical in supplying the aging state with professionals like marine biologists, computer scientists, supply chain managers and especially doctors. UNE has the only medical school in the state and is the biggest provider of medical professionals in Maine. “The point of this is, on the student side, helping the student,” Herbert said. “But on the macro state-level side, helping Maine by bringing in students.” Maine has offered free tuition to the state’s community colleges since 2022. That program applies to students who graduated from high school between 2020 and 2025 . This story will be updated. We invite you to add your comments. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday approved the ₹ 1,435-crore PAN 2.0 project of the Income Tax department (ITD), which will upgrade the existing system and make personal data protection mandatory for user agencies. Briefing media after the cabinet meeting, information and broadcasting minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said PAN 2.0 will revamp the complete I-T backbone of existing system and it will be used as common identifier for businesses, a long-pending demand of the business community. “The PAN card is an integral part of our lives, especially for the middle class and small businesses. It has undergone significant upgrades, and PAN 2.0 has been approved today. The existing system will be enhanced, and a robust digital backbone will be introduced,” Vaishnaw said. The Union government has so far issued about 78 crore (780 million) Permanent Account Numbers (PANs), of which about 98% are issued to individuals. The I-T department and the finance ministry did not respond to specific queries related to the project. According to an official statement issued by the CCEA, the purpose of the common identifier is extensive. “The PAN 2.0 Project resonates with the vision of the Government enshrined in Digital India by enabling the use of PAN as Common Identifier for all digital systems of specified government agencies,” the statement said. The project — with a financial outlay of ₹ 1,435 crore — aims to enable technology-driven transformation of taxpayer registration services and provide ease of access and speedy service delivery with improved quality, it added. Other features of the project include single source of truth and data consistency, eco-friendly processes and cost optimisation, and security and optimisation of infrastructure for greater agility. PAN 2.0 is an e-Governance project for re-engineering the business processes of taxpayer registration services through technology driven transformation of PAN and Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number (TAN) services for enhanced digital experience of the taxpayers, the statement said. “This will be an upgrade of the current PAN/TAN 1.0 eco-system consolidating the core and non-core PAN/TAN activities as well as PAN validation service,” it added. Meanwhile, the I-T department in August this year already floated a tender to engaged a service provider for design, development, implementation, operation and maintenance of PAN 2.0 project. “The PAN 2.0 Project aims to consolidate end-to-end PAN/TAN services starting from online receipt of applications, verification of PAN/TAN applications, de-duplication, processing, allotment of PAN/TAN, issuance of e-PAN, maintenance and storage of PAN/TAN data, Online PAN Validation (OPV) services, Printing and Dispatch of PAN card, integration with stakeholders to enable technology driven transformation of Tax payer registration services for enhancing digital experience of the taxpayers/PAN holders and the ITD officials,” the tender notice of August 2024 said. According to the notice, the potential service provider is expected to perform three main tasks. The first is to design, procure, develop, install, commission, operate, and maintain all infrastructure components, including hardware, software, networking, and PCs for the entire PAN 2.0 system. The second task is to ensure the complete migration of relevant legacy data to the new system. And the third task is to ensure seamless integration with other internal and external systems. Why eggs have gotten so expensiveJohnathan Massie scores 14 off bench to lead North Texas over Houston Christian 62-46
