Mumbai: While many unmarried tribal couples in Palghar face discrimination within the community for living together without getting married due to their inability to afford even a simple wedding ceremony, a Mumbai-based non-government organisation is making sure that these young couples get married in all the customary ceremonies and live their lives with dignity. On December 15, the club held its fourth group wedding called ‘Samuhik Vivah’ in Talothe Talaipada, Dahanu, marrying 25 couples, bringing the total to 100. Supported by donors, each couple received a sponsorship of Rs 36,000, covering traditional rituals, gifts, and a community feast for 5,000 villagers. “Due to a lack of resources to afford even the simplest ceremony, many youth from the community start living with their partner without marrying. However, these couples are not accepted by the community and are often left out of social gatherings. It is also believed that such unmarried couples go to hell after this life,” said a couple who got married at the recent ‘Samuhik Vivah’. The club members from Breach Candy, Nepean Sea Rd, Kemps Corner and Marine Drive learned about this issue while working in Palghar and decided to act. The club contacted donors who agreed to sponsor the group wedding. Looking at the need, the club started organising such group weddings every year, and this year, it organised two weddings in February and December. Rajni Barasia, president of the club, said, “In our Marwari community, we have a tradition of group weddings where the wealthy pay for weddings of the needy. We started the same custom in the Adivasi community. Women appreciate our small gifts of simple sarees and imitation jewellery. Samuhik Vivah stands as a testament to the power of compassion, culture, and collective action, leaving an indelible impact on all who participated.”HOUSTON The Angleton Wildcats are Class 5A, Division 1-Region 3 champions after defeating La Porte, 24-21, Saturday at NRG Stadium. With the win, Angleton advances to its first state semifinal appearance since 2017. The Wildcats will play Smithson Valley at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at Baylor's McLane Stadium. Smithson Valley beat Flour Bluff, 49-14, in the Region 4 championship game. Angleton's (13-1) lone loss in the regular season came to La Porte in a thrilling 35-28 final. The Bulldogs surrendered a 28-7 lead in the original meeting but recovered with a lengthy, game-winning drive, which included a pair of fourth-and-short conversions. Saturday's contest featured another pivotal fourth-and-short, as La Porte was 1 yard away from going up two scores late in the third quarter. Instead, Melvon Cordy-Perry instantly broke through the line and wrapped Tyresse Barnes to the ground, well short of the goal line. Angleton's offense began its 14-play, 96-yard drive, capped by a 17-yard touchdown pass from Bryce Duron to Wesley Jackson. Down by two, the Wildcats went for two, and Duron rolled right to find Juel Peterson wide open in the back of the end zone, successfully tying the game at 21. On its next three drives, La Porte generated a combined -1 yard. Following the first possession, Angleton regained possession near midfield. Despite Wyatt Neyland being short of the line to gain, La Porte committed a targeting penalty to award Angleton an automatic first down. The Wildcats moved 8 yards closer but stalled at the 21-yard line. Regardless, the Wildcats were in range for Ivan Rodriguez, who converted the 38-yard field goal to give Angleton a 24-21 lead. Shockingly, Angleton attempted a surprise onside on the ensuing kickoff, but the defense stood tall. Maurice Hightower intercepted La Porte's Aiden Saenz. The Bulldogs were able to regain possession after Angleton failed to pick up a first down on fourth and 5. Sergio Jackson sacked Saenz on third and 8, forcing the Bulldogs into fourth and 13. With just one timeout remaining, La Porte attempted the fourth down and ran a hook and ladder, which Angleton recovered after a botched pitch. Shockley picked up one first down to put the finishing touches on the three-point win. Angleton is in the state semifinals for the first time since 2017 when La Porte head coach Kevin Berneathy was the offensive coordinator. Angleton will play Smithson Valley in the state semifinal. Angleton struck first Saturday, with Rodriguez sinking a 35-yard field goal. The lead was the Wildcats' first against La Porte after trailing or tying the Bulldogs for the entirety of the first meeting. The two teams combined for 71 yards of offense in the first period, and 40 of it came on La Porte's third and 16 try on the ensuing possession. Saenz connected with Ricky Sandolph, and three plays later, Sean Simon scored from one yard out to take the 7-3 lead. After each team had an empty possession, Angleton retook the lead. The officials whistled Angleton on back-to-back plays, but on third and 29, they called La Porte for defensive holding, giving Angleton an automatic first down. Shockley scored on a 34-yard run to give Angleton a 10-7 advantage. The Wildcats committed two facemask penalties on La Porte's ensuing possession. With under a minute remaining in the first half, Barnes scored from six yards out, and La Porte led 14-10 at the intermission. Angleton started with the ball in the second half, and four consecutive Shockley runs got it down to the La Porte five-yard line, where Rodriguez converted another field goal try this one from 22 yards. La Porte returned the ensuing kickoff to Angleton's 43-yard line, and two plays later, Sandolph broke free for a 40-yard touchdown.Next man up is usually reserved for injury situations in the NFL. But for the Pittsburgh Steelers , that adage is reserved for budding defensive star Keeanu Benton. Because while his mentor Cam Heyward isn't showing any signs of slowing down, after a huge play in the team's win over the Cleveland Browns , it's Benton that will be terrorizing offensives for years to come: Keeanu Benton makes a miraculous interception against Browns "But, you know, heck of a play," said Cam Heyward when asked about Benton's interception. "Great awareness, you know, just to track it down the line. It wasn't like it was, you know, popped in there or anything. But can't say enough about the kid. He works his tail off. I know he wants big plays all the time, but you know, it was a big play for us in this game, and luckily, had that kid on our sideline." BIG MAN SNAG @keeanu_benton Stream on NFL+: https://t.co/COxKRnr6Mc pic.twitter.com/OU0Kt7f6zl Interceptions are usually reserved for the defensive backfield but when you are as spry and agile as Keeanu Benton, interceptions are just another part of your skillset, even if his own teammates didn't know it yet: "I was in the post [safety position] on that play, so seeing the screen happen, and seeing him put his hands up and catch it, I was like 'Oh, shoot,'" said safety DeShon Elliott after the game. "I don't know he was at athletic like, he's had a lot of pass breakups this year, because he's a great player. But I just didn't know he had those ball skills too. He was trying to get out of there so, and I think that running back was trying to make him fumble. So great ball security. I'm really proud of Keeanu." Benton is just 23 years old and in the second year of his NFL career. A former Wisconsin Badger, his playstyle fits in perfectly with the Steelers as a sound run defender, yet interior presence in terms of pass rush. But perhaps more importantly, Benton fits into the Steelers culture, as he already has a voice in the locker room as seen in episode one of Hard Knocks AFC North: One of my favorite moment from Hard Knocks was hearing #Steelers NT Keeanu Benton's speech on Saturday night to the defense. Love that the team has these young players speak to try and find their voice from a leadership standpoint. Awesome seeing Cam Heyward's reaction, too. pic.twitter.com/SKoRdap4KK Expect even more from Benton down the stretch. This article first appeared on A to Z Sports and was syndicated with permission.

Mozambique Interior Minister Pascoal Ronda told a news conference in Maputo late Tuesday that a wave of violence and looting was sparked by the court's announcement a day earlier. He said it was led by mostly youthful supporters of losing candidate Venancio Mondlane, who received 24% of the vote, second to Chapo, who got 65%. “From the preliminary survey, in the last 24 hours, 236 acts of violence were recorded throughout the national territory that resulted in 21 deaths, of which two members of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique also died," Ronda said. He said 13 civilians and 12 police were injured. Ronda said 25 vehicles were set on fire, including two police vehicles. He added that 11 police subunits and a penitentiary were attacked and vandalized and 86 inmates were freed. Tensions were high in the country ahead of the The Constitutional Council ruling on Monday and violent protests started immediately after the announcement was made. Footage circulating on various social media platforms showed protesters burning and looting shops in the capital Maputo and the city of Beira, where some city officials were reported to have fled the city. Mondlane has called for a “shutdown” starting Friday but violence in the country has already escalated and the situation remained tense in the capital on Tuesday night following a day of violence and looting by protesters. The country of 34 million people has been on edge since the Oct. 9 general elections . Mondlane’s supporters, mostly hundreds of thousands of young people, have since taken to the streets, and have been met by gunfire from security forces. This brings to more than 150 the number of people who have died from post-election violence since the initial results were announced by the country's electoral body.Biggest airline in the world grounds all flights

Cowboys Cowboys QB Dak Prescott reflected on the last year after signing an extension last offseason before suffering his season-ending hamstring injury against the Falcons earlier this month. “It’s been a tough year personally with my emotions because it’s a roller coaster,” Prescott said, via David Moore of the Dallas Morning News. “It’s truly been ups and downs. I would say riding a wave I’m constantly preaching about not riding. Off the field, it’s been some of the most joyous times I ever could have imagined, dreamed of. Having a child, getting engaged, starting a family. But then on the football field, it’s probably been as tough of a season as I’ve ever had. I’d probably say the toughest.” Prescott said medical staff forecasted he would have to rest before training in around six weeks, but there was still a chance he could suffer a full tear of his hamstring. “At the end of the day, we were hoping in six weeks I could start gaining strength, which is what all of the doctors were telling me,” Prescott said. “But if I waited and rehabbed it, I may or may not be able to regain strength. Even if I did, there was still a chance it would likely tear off.” Prescott explained his hamstring began to “lift off the bone even more” and simply walking was proving to cause it even more damage. “It started to lift off the bone even more,” Prescott said. “That one was doing all the work, and now it was compromised. Hell, I had a week of not even playing football, just walking and normal movement and that was tearing it.” Lions Lions HC Dan Campbell said that RB David Montgomery has a running style that reminds him of some of the former greats. He added that Montgomery is a downhill runner that can wear down a defense. “Man, to me, he’s a throwback,” Campbell said, via the team’s website . “There are throwback principles about him, and I mean that with all due respect. His running style is – it’s rare. Look, we were watching clips this morning, I think (Texans RB Joe) Mixon at Houston runs really hard in today’s football too, he’s an aggressive style, but I think David is just different and he’s downhill, doesn’t give up, first guy, he’s not going to let him tackle him, continues to churn his legs, and just violent, violent, never give up, never going down. When I watch him, it just reminds me of some of the great ones, man, back in the heyday. I mean, they just – they don’t go down. So, freaking Earl Campbell, man, Earl Campbell ran like crazy, Walter Payton ran like crazy and would not go down.” Campbell said that Montgomery’s play style is contagious and extends throughout the whole offense. “I think we’re fortunate to have him, and I can tell you this, the O-line loves blocking for that guy and anybody that plays with him, I mean, you want to talk about inspiring?” Campbell said. “That inspires you to want to block.” Lions WR Jameson Williams was fined $19,697 for unsportsmanlike conduct (obscene gestures) in Week 11. The Lions won their tenth consecutive game for the first time in the history of the franchise. Panthers Despite the team losing to the Chiefs, Panthers HC Dave Canales says QB Bryce Young will start yet again next week and has been making a statement out on the field, proving he can still be a franchise quarterback and addressing the team after they fell short on Sunday. ( Darin Gantt ) As for the injury to TE Ja’Tavion Sanders , Canales told the media that he has movement in his extremities and has been released from the hospital so that he can return to the team facility for further evaluation. Bryce Young had the look he wanted. With 54 seconds to go, trailing by six and with no timeouts in his pocket against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Carolina Panthers quarterback saw the opposing secondary presenting a coverage that would allow Xavier Legette to sneak behind the defense on the post route head coach Dave Canales had dialed up. Young took the second-and-4 snap and from the Philadelphia 32-yard line. As the pocket formed around him, he confidently stepped up into the middle as Legette made his break toward the end zone. Young fired in his direction, and everything about the play had the makings of a touchdown that would tie the game at 22 prior to an extra point. The Panthers were on the cusp of knocking off arguably the NFL's hottest team in the Eagles, who entered with an eight-game winning streak. But the officials never signaled touchdown. Replay made it clear what they saw on the field; Legette, the 32nd overall pick in the draft out of South Carolina, never secured the ball before the pigskin hit the turf, and the ground clearly caused the ball to move. Incomplete. The Panthers had two more chances to gain 4 yards and secure a new set of downs. No dice. “(Expletive), I thought I caught that (expletive),” Legette told reporters after the game. All things Panthers: Latest Carolina Panthers news, schedule, roster, stats, injury updates and more. Legette said he didn’t know the ball hit the ground until a replay was shown on the Lincoln Financial Field jumbotron. Asked if he felt like he had control before the ball hit the ground he said: “Hell yeah.” Inside of two minutes, and without any timeouts, Canales had no way to ask for an official review. “I thought it would have been the protocol," Canales said of a potential review. "The ball moved around a little bit ... the officials saw it, we saw it on the sideline, it was close. Gonna have to look at it again.” Canales said that the mishap was "absolutely" a play he expects Legette to make. "That’s a big play we’re counting on. He’d be the first one to tell you he’s got to make that play," Canales said. "Bryce steps up, makes a beautiful throw in that situation, had the coverage we wanted. Those are the types of plays we have to make to get back in the winning column." The Panthers have been lining up Legette as the "X" receiver, a position that presents plenty of target opportunities, Canales said. Legette finished with two catches for 39 yards on eight targets. Legette was on the other side of Young's most impressive play of the day. As Carolina started the final drive from its own 3-yard line, Young evaded a sack that would have resulted in a safety and dropped a dime to Legette near the left sideline while almost throwing across his body. “Felt like we were gonna be 97 yards with a chance to win,” Canales said. Legette came up slow after the pickup of 31 yards and was briefly evaluated on the sideline before returning. "We're counting on him ... these are all things that we take and we learn and we grow (from), and I truly believe that we’re going to be in high-stakes games going against great teams and great players and we’re going to have to make those plays," said Canales, alluding to his team's loss last Sunday in overtime against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which came after running back Chuba Hubbard fumbled as the Panthers were in game-winning field-goal range. Young (19-for-34, 194 passing yards, one touchdown, one interception) said his belief in Legette remains strong and that he is a "great player" with a "super-bright future." "I know he knows I always believe in him," Canales said. "I always know he’s going to make the next one. I’m always going to have faith in that. I see how hard he works, the type of guy he is. Great for us, great in the locker room. It’s tough for us. We all miss things." Young said he will reinforce his words by showing him – the quarterback’s not going to stop throwing him the ball. “I trust him in every situation," Young said. "That’s not going to change.” Fellow Panthers wideout Adam Thielen hadn’t talked to the Legette yet when he met the media after the game, but the 11-year veteran wants the 23-year-old to know every receiver has experienced something similar at some point in their careers. “He’s a hard worker," Thielen said. "He does things the right way. We’re proud of him. He had a great game. Just keep working, and we’re there for him."
With the increase in international trade of Bangladesh, efficient cross-border trade will have notable implications for the country's status graduation from the least developed country (LDC) to a developing one, said Mahbubur Rahman, president of the International Chamber of Commerce Bangladesh (ICCB). "Therefore, understanding the foreign business partners is crucial," he told a workshop on "Trade Finance Legal Challenges and International Sanctions Regime & Requirements" on Saturday. The ICCB, credit rating agency Moody's and ICC United Arab Emirates (UAE) jointly hosted the event at Renaissance Dhaka Gulshan Hotel in the capital. Financing of international trade transactions plays a crucial role in facilitating global commerce, said Rahman. However, the whole process operates within a complex legal framework shaped by regulatory requirements, including sanctions, presenting significant challenges for financial institutions and businesses dealing with international trade, he said. "Therefore, financial institutions and businesses must navigate a labyrinth of sanctions imposed by various jurisdictions," he said. "These sanctions can target specific countries, entities, or individuals, and often differ between regions, leading to complexities in ensuring compliance," Rahman said. Banks are obligated to conduct thorough due diligence to prevent money laundering and terrorist financing, he said. This involves verifying the identities of clients and understanding the nature of their business activities, which can be resource-intensive and legally complex, he added. The ICCB president highlighted the recent trades in the global economic and political arena and added that the evolving geopolitical landscape has increased the compliance requirements for banks and businesses engaged in international trade. To navigate these challenges, financial institutions and businesses should establish comprehensive policies follow regulatory requirements and educate employees on the latest developments in sanctions, laws and compliance obligations, he added. ICCB Secretary General Ataur Rahman moderated the workshop. Mohamed Daoud, director and industry practice lead for Moody's Financial Crime Compliance across the Middle East and India, and Vincent O'Brien, director of ICC-UAE, were present.‘I don’t talk about favourites’: Arne Slot refuses to get carried away by title talk

BHP Group expects a global copper deficit of 10 million metric tons a decade from now, a shortfall that is driving its plans to spend at least $11 billion at the world’s biggest copper mine, Escondida, and other projects in Chile. BHP detailed to investors this week plans to spend $10.7 billion to $14.7 billion within about 10 years to extract more copper from Escondida and the smaller Spence mine, and restart the Cerro Colorado mine. The world’s biggest listed miner’s annual production is set to fall by around 300,000 tons to 1.6 million tons by the end of the decade, largely driven by a slump at Escondida that is expected to peak in 2025. Other top copper miners are facing similar challenges to increase output at aging mines. Those difficulties are hitting just as demand for copper, an essential metal for production of electric-vehicle batteries and construction of data centers, is expected to grow. “We think the deficit is going to be around 10 million tons by 2035,” BHP Americas President Brandon Craig told Reuters in an interview on Thursday, estimating a $250-billion cost to develop enough mines to match demand. “That’s quite a challenging task for mining companies.” The amount represents a little under half of current global production, with copper mine output at 22.4 million tons last year. BHP is contending with diminishing ore grades at Escondida, which it aims to offset through expanded and new processing facilities, plus leaching technologies to extract copper from sulphide, rather than oxide where copper is more commonly mined. BHP’s heaviest spending is anticipated around fiscal years 2030 and 2031, Craig said, referring to a schedule that outlines four Escondida projects and three at the Pampa Norte division, which includes Spence and Cerro Colorado. The earliest projects are set for first production between 2027 and 2028, and the latest ones between 2031 and 2032. BHP sought this year to boost its copper portfolio in a $49-billion bid for Anglo American AAL.L, but was rebuffed. BHP has not ruled out a renewed bid. Asked about organic growth versus acquisitions, Craig said BHP is keen on maximizing Escondida, Spence and Cerro Colorado. “Our default is to take that resource and develop it ... We always have a set of investable growth options.” BHP aims to stagger the timing of Chile projects to keep them from “becoming too intense to be able to execute effectively,” he added. BHP is also working with industry associations to press the Chilean government to finalize reforms for faster permitting, but for now anticipates the standard timeline. “The legal time frames that they set out for how long it should take are often exceeded, so it creates a high degree of uncertainty,” he said. Although the company previously explored an underground expansion for Escondida, Craig said the idea was not feasible at current copper prices for at least another decade. Three-month copper on the London Metal Exchange CMCU3 is down around 20% from its 2024 peak in May, at around $8,995 per metric ton. He also said the miner set aside past interest in selling Cerro Colorado, which was put into temporary care and maintenance late last year amid issues over water use. The miner is now looking for a leaching solution using seawater. Source: Reuters (Reporting by Daina Beth Solomon and Fabian Cambero; Editing by Rod Nickel)
