Austin, Dec. 15, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- According to SNS Insider, the Fertilizers Market size was USD 274.6 Billion in 2023 and is expected to reach USD 389.6 Billion by 2032, growing with a significant compound annual growth rate of 4.0% during the forecast period of 2024-2032. Fertilizers market is an important aspect of food production activity that provides essential nutrients for plant growth. As more and more farms are required to meet the needs of a growing global population, the global landscape of agriculture is changing and the need for fertilizers is still at an all-time high. Increasing the global food population will create 70% more food by the year 2050, this process will bind even more the need for fertilization according to FAO (Food and Agricultural Organization). Agriculture, especially in developing markets, is projected to continue as the key source of fertilizer usage. More farmers are using precision agriculture, which applies fertilizer only as needed to maximize crop production with minimal environmental impact. Furthermore, the trends of sustainable farming worldwide are pushing the development of controlled-release fertilizers and organic fertilizers. The market is additionally consolidated by the governmental guidelines and approaches that are advancing practical farming as well as advancing the reception of green composts. Various governments of crucial growing regions have declared goals to minimize their ecological footprints and safeguard food security. Initiatives, e.g., the European Union's Farm to Fork Strategy and India's National Mission on Sustainable Agriculture, for instance, will lay a foundation for higher penetration of advanced fertilizers. Dry fertilizers are commonly used for large-scale agricultural applications due to their convenience, long shelf life, and ease of storage and transportation. Granules and powdered fertilizers in dry form provide flexibility in application, making them particularly popular for large-scale farming operations in regions with high agricultural demands, such as North America, Asia-Pacific, and Europe. The growing demand for dry fertilizers is also being driven by the increasing need for fertilizers that can be directly applied to fields using conventional farming equipment. The large-scale farming operations in countries like the United States, Brazil, and India contribute significantly to the demand for dry fertilizers. By Product In 2023, organic fertilizers led the market, accounting for a substantial 71% of the total market share. Organic fertilizers, derived from plant, animal, or mineral sources, have gained traction as farmers seek environmentally friendly alternatives to synthetic fertilizers. These fertilizers are increasingly popular in organic farming and sustainable agricultural practices due to their minimal environmental impact and their ability to improve soil health over time. The rise in consumer demand for organic food products is driving the shift toward organic fertilizers, particularly in regions such as North America and Europe, where organic farming is flourishing. The use of organic fertilizers not only helps improve soil fertility but also enhances the sustainability of farming practices, making it a preferred option for many farmers aiming to reduce their carbon footprint. By Application In 2023, the agriculture segment dominated the market with the highest revenue share of the fertilizers market. Agriculture remains the dominant application of fertilizers, with crop cultivation representing a significant share of global fertilizer consumption. The growth of the agricultural sector in developing economies, coupled with the rising global population and changing dietary habits, is expected to drive the demand for fertilizers in the coming years. As the demand for high-quality crops and yields rises, especially in developing nations, farmers are increasingly turning to advanced fertilizers to optimize production. In particular, fertilizers used for essential crops like wheat, maize, rice, and oilseeds are expected to see significant growth, especially in countries with large agricultural sectors such as India, China, and Brazil. The Asia-Pacific region dominated the global fertilizers market in 2023 and held a 45% market share. The region's large agricultural footprint, coupled with the growing population and rapid urbanization, has resulted in a continuous need for fertilizers to ensure food security. Countries like India and China are leading the way in fertilizer consumption, with both nations investing heavily in agricultural modernization to meet the nutritional needs of their growing populations. India, in particular, is a major consumer of fertilizers due to its reliance on agriculture as a key sector of the economy. Government programs aimed at improving agricultural output and achieving food security have driven the demand for fertilizers in the country. Additionally, China is seeing a shift toward more sustainable farming practices, leading to an increased adoption of organic and controlled-release fertilizers. North America region growing with a significant growth rate over the forecast period. where the U.S. and Canada are key contributors to the global fertilizer market. With significant agricultural activities, particularly in crops like corn, wheat, and soybeans, North America remains a vital market for fertilizer consumption. The shift towards precision agriculture, driven by technological advancements such as soil sensors and GPS tracking, is fostering more efficient use of fertilizers, thereby sustaining demand. Europe is another strong market for fertilizers, with a focus on sustainable agricultural practices and organic farming. The European Union's regulations surrounding environmental sustainability and food production are encouraging the use of eco-friendly fertilizers, which is contributing to market growth in the region. NEW YORK — U.S. stocks rose Monday, with those benefiting the most from lower interest rates and a stronger economy leading the way. The S&P 500 climbed 0.3% to pull closer to its all-time high set two weeks ago. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 440 points, or 1%, to its own record set on Friday, while the Nasdaq composite rose 0.3%. Treasury yields also eased in the bond market amid what some analysts called a “Bessent bounce” after President-elect Donald Trump said he wants Scott Bessent, a hedge fund manager, to be his Treasury Secretary. Bessent has argued for reducing the U.S. government’s deficit, which is how much more it spends than it takes in through taxes and other revenue. Such an approach could soothe worries on Wall Street that Trump’s policies may lead to a much bigger deficit, which in turn would put upward pressure on Treasury yields. After climbing above 4.44% immediately after Trump’s election, the yield on the 10-year Treasury fell back to 4.26% Monday, down from 4.41% late Friday. That’s a notable move, and lower yields make it cheaper for all kinds of companies and households to borrow money. They also give a boost to prices for stocks and other investments. That helped stocks of smaller companies lead the way, and the Russell 2000 index of smaller stocks jumped 1.5%. It finished just shy of its all-time high, which was set three years ago. Smaller companies can feel bigger boosts from lower borrowing costs because of the need for many to borrow to grow. The two-year Treasury yield, which more closely tracks the market’s expectations for what the Federal Reserve will do with overnight interest rates, also eased sharply. The Fed began cutting its main interest rate just a couple months ago from a two-decade high, hoping to keep the job market humming after bringing inflation nearly all the way down to its 2% target. But immediately after Trump’s victory, traders had reduced bets for how many cuts the Fed may deliver next year. They were worried Trump’s preference for lower tax rates and higher spending on the border would balloon the national debt. A report coming on Wednesday could influence how much the Fed may cut rates. Economists expect it to show that an underlying inflation trend the Fed prefers to use accelerated to 2.8% last month from 2.7% in September. Higher inflation would make the Fed more reluctant to cut rates as deeply or as quickly as it would otherwise. Goldman Sachs economist David Mericle expects that to slow by the end of next year to 2.4%, but he said inflation would be even lower if not for expected tariff increases on imports from China and autos favored by Trump. In the stock market, Bath & Body Works jumped 16.5% after delivering stronger profit for the latest quarter than analysts expected. The seller of personal care products and home fragrances also raised its financial forecasts for the full year, even though it still sees a “volatile retail environment” and a shorter holiday shopping season this year. Much focus has been on how resilient U.S. shoppers can remain, given high prices across the economy and still-high interest rates. Last week, two major retailers sent mixed messages. Target tumbled after giving a dour forecast for the holiday shopping season. It followed Walmart, which gave a much more encouraging outlook. Another big retailer, Macy’s, said Monday its sales for the latest quarter were in line with its expectations, but it will delay the release of its full financial results. It found a single employee had intentionally hid up to $154 million in delivery expenses, and it needs more time to complete its investigation. Macy’s stock fell 2.2%. Among the market’s leaders were several companies related to the housing industry. Monday’s drop in Treasury yields could translate into easier mortgage rates, which could spur activity for housing. Builders FirstSource, a supplier or building materials, rose 5.9%. Homebuilders, D.R. Horton, PulteGroup and Lennar all rose at least 5.6%. All told, the S&P 500 rose 18.03 points to 5,987.37. The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 440.06 to 44,736.57, and the Nasdaq composite gained 51.18 to 19,054.84. In stock markets abroad, indexes moved modestly across much of Europe after finishing mixed in Asia. In the crypto market, bitcoin was trading below $95,000 after threatening to hit $100,000 late last week for the first time. AP Business Writer Elaine Kurtenbach contributed. Subway killer Daniel Penny all smiles alongside Donald Trump and JD Vance in Army-Navy game suite By EMMA RICHTER FOR DAILYMAIL.COM Published: 14:35, 15 December 2024 | Updated: 14:36, 15 December 2024 e-mail View comments Daniel Penny , the man who killed Jordan Neely on a subway train last spring, was all smiles as he joined President-elect Donald Trump at the Army-Navy game Saturday. The Marine veteran, who was acquitted on a criminally negligent homicide charge on Monday in Manhattan, joined Trump's loyal MAGA gang after accepting an invite to the annual game by soon-to-be Vice President JD Vance . Penny, 26, gathered in Trump's suite at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland along with Vance, Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth , House Speaker Mike Johnson, Director of National Intelligence nominee Tulsi Gabbard , Florida Governor Ron DeSantis , and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. The 45th president and Vance both made sure to greet Penny personally as the trio posed for pictures inside the suite. On Friday, Vance called Penny 'a good guy' as he took to X to reveal why he chose to personally invite him to the game over the weekend. 'Daniel's a good guy, and New York's mob district attorney tried to ruin his life for having a backbone,' Vance wrote. 'I'm grateful he accepted my invitation and hope he's able to have fun and appreciate how much his fellow citizens admire his courage.' Gabbard, who referred to Penny as 'courageous', recalled how 'special' it was to have him there. Daniel Penny, 26, who was found not guilty of killed Jordan Neely on Monday, joined President-elect Donald Trump and future Vice President JD Vance at the Army-Navy game Saturday On Friday, Vance called Penny 'a good guy' as he took to X to reveal why he chose to personally invite him to the game over the weekend. (Pictured: Trump, Penny and Vance in the suite) 'Standing alongside courageous Americans like Daniel Penny was special, as he embodies the courage of our nation’s warriors, both in and out of uniform,' she told the New York Post. 'This game is not just about football; it’s a heartfelt tribute to service and unity, reminding us of the sacrifices made for our freedoms.' Thomas Kenniff, Penny's head attorney, told the outlet that the Long Island native was 'very humbled and grateful to be invited.' Penny was arrested in May 2023 after he held Neely, a Michael Jackson impersonator, in a chokehold for a duration that resulted in the victim's death. After a bombshell decision to drop the manslaughter charge on December 6, the jury returned days later where they decided that Penny did not commit criminally negligent homicide by subduing Neely. Penny and Vance are seen inside the suite during Saturday's game at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth , House Speaker Mike Johnson, Director of National Intelligence nominee Tulsi Gabbard , Florida Governor Ron DeSantis , and Tesla CEO Elon Musk were all in attendance A day after being found not guilty, Penny sat down with Judge Jeanine Pirro and revealed that he would have felt responsible 'if someone did get hurt' after the homeless man threatened to kill people onboard the train. Read More Daniel Penny invited as Donald Trump and J.D. Vance's VIP guest at the Army-Navy game 'The guilt I would've felt if someone did get hurt, if he did do what he was threatening to do, I would never be able to live with myself,' Penny said. He told the former judge that he felt that he was 'in a very vulnerable position' as he held Neely back on the floor of an F train. 'He was just threatening to kill people. He was threatening to go to jail forever, go to jail for the rest of his life, and now I'm on the ground with him. 'I'm on my back in a very vulnerable position... If I just let him go, now I'm on my back and he can turn around and start doing what he said - to me... killing, hurting,' Penny explained. Although the case sparked whirlwind attention across the nation, Penny said he is 'not a confrontational person' and someone who prefers to stay out of the spotlight. Penny faced 15 years in prison for charges of second-degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide after the fatal incident on the F train last spring 'I really don’t extend myself. This type of thing is very uncomfortable. All this attention and lime light is very uncomfortable. 'I didn't want any attention or praise, and I still don't,' he said, adding that he's come to terms with it because his actions saved the lives of others. 'And I'll take a million court appearances and people calling me names and people hating me just to keep one of those people from getting hurt, or killed.' The case itself and Penny's ultimate acquittal enraged BLM activists, who instantly called for revenge in the form of black vigilantes. During his interview, Penny also mentioned the 'self-serving' officials who used the fatal incident as part of a 'political game'. Despite not mentioning anyone directly, Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, who spearheaded the case against Penny, has come under fire since the verdict was announced. 'These are their policies. And I don’t mean to get political, I really don’t’ want to make any enemies, really — although I guess I have already,' he told Pirro. 'But these are their policies that have clearly not worked, that the people, the general population, are not in support. Yet, their egos are too big to agree that they’re wrong.' After walking free, the 26-year-old quickly dashed to a downtown bar to celebrate his win with his lawyers and ponder his next move. Penny told Judge Jeanine Pirro that he would have felt responsible if someone did get hurt' after the homeless man threatened to kill people onboard the train that day Neely (pictured), who struggled with drug abuse and mental illness, has a criminal record that included assault convictions Even before the verdict came back, there were calls from Republicans for him to be heralded a hero. Rep. Eli Crane, R-Arizona has been so impressed by Penny and his swift action against Neely that, according to Fox, he wants to award him Congress’ highest civilian honor - a Congressional Gold Medal. Read More Daniel Penny reveals why he HAD to defend subway passengers from Jordan Neely ‘Daniel Penny’s actions exemplify what it means to stand against the grain to do right in a world that rewards moral cowardice,’ he said. He went on to describe the justice system as ‘corrupt’ and one which ‘allows degenerates to steamroll our laws and our sense of security, while punishing the righteous. Vivek Ramaswamy - who will co-lead Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) with Musk - donated $10,000 to Daniel Penny's staggering legal fund, which has since reached $3million. He has also repeatedly spoken out about Neely's lengthy rap sheet, accusing the Manhattan District Attorney's office of sharing 'responsibility for his death for creating an anti law enforcement culture.' Neely was once among the city’s corps of subway and street performers and was known for his Michael Jackson impersonations. He struggled with drug abuse and a mental illness, and had a criminal record that included assault convictions. Penny faced 15 years in prison for charges of second-degree manslaughter and criminally-negligent homicide after the incident on the subway car last spring, which was partially recorded and sparked a passionate national debate. After finding him not guilty, cheering and clapping erupted in the courtroom by some, while Neely's family yelled horrendous threats, calling Penny a 'racist c**t' and warning: 'It's a small world, buddy,' before being escorted out. Penny's lawyers argued he acted in self-defense and in defense of other passengers after Neely terrorized their subway car and threatened them, but prosecutors say he overstepped into vigilantism and criminally killed Neely with a chokehold. With the trial out of the way, Penny is free to return his attention to his studies. When he was charged, he was studying architecture at the New York City College of Technology. He was also working two jobs – one as a swim teacher and also at a restaurant in Brooklyn – which he gave up to focus on the trial. He is also not completely out of the woods after Neely's family filed a civil lawsuit against Penny last week. Penny's legal team, Kenniff and Steven Raiser, said they will immediately set their sights on the lawsuit against their client. The Packers’ 38-10 victory Sunday over the San Francisco 49ers began a 12-day stretch in which they play three games. They’re back at Lambeau Field on Thursday night to host the Miami Dolphins before visiting the NFC North-leading Detroit Lions the following Thursday. LaFleur prepared for this. When the Packers had a bye Nov. 10, LaFleur said he spent the extra time studying the Dolphins, knowing he’d have little time to prepare for them this week. “I watched pretty much every snap of Miami knowing this was coming, so made my notes, had kind of a preliminary plan for that,” LaFleur said. The Packers (8-3) showed they could thrive in these quick turnaround situations last year, when they won a Thanksgiving Day game at Detroit four days after beating the Los Angeles Chargers at Lambeau Field. The difference this time is that the Packers will play another Thursday game a week after their Thanksgiving matchup against the Dolphins. Playing three games in so short a time frame could take a long-term physical toll as they head into the stretch run of the regular season. They started this three-game set by producing their highest point total since winning 38-20 at Chicago in their 2023 season opener. “I think collectively as a whole, especially on offense, I feel we’re getting back into a rhythm,” quarterback Jordan Love said. The Packers understand the importance of this stretch, particularly with the NFC North-leading Lions looming next week. Although Green Bay has put itself in good position to earn a playoff berth, the Packers have little margin for error if they want to catch up to the Lions (10-1) or Minnesota Vikings (9-2) in the NFC North race. The Packers already lost to both those teams at home and are just 1-2 within the division. “We know going down this stretch every game is going to be important, every practice is going to be important, every meeting, whatever the case may be is going to be important,” safety Xavier McKinney said. “So we’re looking forward to this challenge.” What’s working The Packers shored up their red zone offense by scoring touchdowns on each of their five trips inside the 49ers 20-yard line. It was the first time since 2017 the Packers had posted a perfect red zone percentage in a game while getting inside the opponent’s 20 at least five times. Green Bay entered the game having converted just 48.7% of its red zone possessions into touchdowns to rank 27th in the NFL. ... The Packers had 169 yards rushing to increase their season total to 1,668. That’s their highest total through the first 11 games of a season since 2003. ... After allowing a season-high 179 yards rushing in a 20-19 victory at Chicago, the Packers limited the 49ers to 44 yards on 16 carries. What needs work Not much. The Packers squandered a scoring opportunity late in the second quarter and could have led by more than 17-7 at the beak considering how they had dominated play up to that point, but this otherwise was a pretty crisp performance. Stock up McKinney broke up a fourth down pass and had a 48-yard interception return that led to a touchdown. McKinney has seven interceptions this season to tie Detroit’s Kerby Joseph for the NFL lead. ... RB Josh Jacobs rushed for 106 yards and three touchdowns. Jacobs has seven touchdowns (six rushing, one receiving) over his past five games. ... DL Rashan Gary has 2 1/2 sacks over his past three games. Gary also forced a fumble Sunday. ... One week after blocking a field-goal attempt as time expired to preserve Green Bay’s victory at Chicago, DL Karl Brooks recovered a fumble to set up a touchdown. ... K Brandon McManus made a 51-yard field goal, converting Green Bay’s first attempt from 50-plus yards this season. Stock down WR Christian Watson had no catches and dropped a potential 49-yard touchdown pass. Watson’s struggles came just a week after he caught four passes for a career-high 150 yards against the Bears. Injuries WR Romeo Doubs left the game with a concussion. CB Jaire Alexander (knee) and LB Edgerrin Cooper (hamstring) didn’t play. Key numbers Winnipeg Jets Game Days On Winnipeg Jets game days, hockey writers Mike McIntyre and Ken Wiebe send news, notes and quotes from the morning skate, as well as injury updates and lineup decisions. Arrives a few hours prior to puck drop. 800/6: Jacobs has rushed for 944 yards and seven touchdowns this season which means he has run for at least 800 yards and six touchdowns in each of his first six NFL seasons. The only other players since 2000 to rush for at least 800 yards and six touchdowns in each of their first six seasons are Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson, Ezekiel Elliott and Adrian Peterson. Next steps The Packers could get a strong test from the Dolphins (5-6), who are playing better than their record indicates. Miami has won three straight games by a combined score of 91-49. ___ AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFL Advertisement Advertisement
