One of the reasons for the private sector to achieve their priority sector target Is that these banks are now allowed to invest in priority sector lending certificates (PSLCs). These are issued against banks’ priority sector loans under various sub-targets and general categories. Banks use PSLCs to guard against shortfalls. The total trading volume of PSLCs climbed 26% in FY24 , primarily led by PSLC-General. Among the four PSLC categories, the small and marginal farmers category registered the highest trading volume, partly reflecting specialisation by a few banks in lending to this category of borrowers and the inability of other banks to meet sub-targets through direct lending, the RBI said in its report on Trends and Progress of Banking. In the past five years, private sector banks have emerged as major sellers of PSLCs. In FY24, they accounted for 49% of total sales as compared with 21% in the case of PSBs, the RBI said. Jamshedpur: Former CM Champai Soren on Sunday said the BJP’s movement against the alleged increasing Bangladeshi infiltration in Jharkhand was social in nature and not political or aimed at elections. Soren, who won the Seraikela seat in the assembly polls, claimed that tribals have become a minority in many districts of the state, including Pakur and Sahibganj. “As we have said earlier, our movement against the ever-increasing Bangladeshi infiltration in Jharkhand is not a political or election issue, but a social campaign. We clearly believe that infiltrators should not get any kind of protection on this land of heroes,” he said in a post on X in Hindi. “Today, the tribal community has become a minority in many districts, including Pakur and Sahibganj. What will happen if we cannot protect the lands of the indigenous people and the dignity of our women?” he added. A number of unidentified drones have been spotted over three airbases in Britain , the United States Air Force (USAF) has confirmed. The incidents, which occurred between November 20 and 22, saw “small unmanned aerial systems” spotted over RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall, in Suffolk , and RAF Feltwell, in Norfolk. The USAF, which uses the bases, said it was unclear at this stage whether the drones were considered hostile. It also declined to comment on whether any defence mechanisms were used, but said it retains “the right to protect” installations. A spokesperson for US Air Forces in Europe said: “We can confirm that small unmanned aerial systems (UASs) were spotted in the vicinity of and over RAF Lakenheath, RAF Mildenhall, and RAF Feltwell between Nov 20 and 22. The number of UASs fluctuated and they ranged in size/configuration. “The UASs were actively monitored and installation leaders determined that none of the incursions impacted base residents or critical infrastructure. “To protect operational security, we do not discuss our specific force protection measures but retain the right to protect the installation. GOP congressman urges Republicans to back Mike Johnson ahead of House speaker votePresident-elect Donald Trump has announced an agreement with the Biden administration that will allow his transition team to begin coordinating with federal agencies two months before he enters office. "Trump is entering the next phase of his administration’s transition by executing a memorandum of understanding with President Joe Biden’s White House," Susie Wiles, the incoming White House chief of staff, said in a statement. "This engagement allows our intended Cabinet nominees to begin critical preparations, including the deployment of landing teams to every department and agency, and complete the orderly transition of power.” While President Joe Biden promised an orderly transition once it became clear that Trump had won the 2024 election, Trump's team has been slow to sign a formal agreement to start the process. The deadline for the paperwork was Oct. 1, according to federal statute. Trump had also refused the General Services Administration's transition resources, including office space, equipment, administrative support, and other services as required under the Presidential Transition Act . The president-elect eschewed signing two separate memoranda of understanding with the GSA as well and has not signed a required ethics plan. Some conservatives said Trump should fund the transition efforts instead to avoid disclosure policies required by the GSA. The costs would likely fall between $14 to $16 million. A statement from Biden White House spokeswoman Saloni Sharma reiterated that there will be a smooth transition of power but expressed frustration with Trump's refusal to sign the GSA paperwork. "Since September, the White House and the GSA have repeatedly made the case to the Trump transition team to sign both the GSA and White House MOUs as both parties have done during previous transitions," she said. Trump has only signed the memorandum. "As part of the White House MOU, the Trump-Vance transition team has agreed to important safeguards to protect non-public information and prevent conflicts of interest, including who has access to the information and how the information is shared," Sharma's statement reads. "The MOU also outlines that the Trump transition team will publicly post their ethics plan to the GSA website." The Biden White House made clear it does not agree with Trump's decision not to sign the GSA agreement, but says it will continue to work with the incoming administration in accordance with the Presidential Transition Act. According to the Trump team's statement, the transition will not use taxpayer money, government buildings, or GSA-provided technology, and will operate as a "self-sufficient organization." "This organizational autonomy means a streamlined process that guarantees the Trump administration is ready on Day 1," the announcement reads. "The transition already has existing security and information protections built in, which means we will not require additional government and bureaucratic oversight." Trump's team says its own ethics plan meets GSA requirements for incoming personnel and confirmed that it will be posted to the GSA's website.
