But it was the second-year quarterback who was the most vocal in taking the blame for the 32-27 defeat . “It’s no secret, I haven’t been playing well personally, for my standard,” he said. “I have a couple good drives and plays here, but it’s up and down ... I’ve got to be hard on myself and realize that games can come down to me making plays.” Stroud threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw two interceptions as the Texans lost for the third time in four games after a 5-1 start. “I’ve got to just be better, and I know that,” he said. Stroud has thrown five interceptions combined in the past three games to give him nine this season after he had just five in 15 games as a rookie. The Texans (7-5) got a touchdown on an interception return by Jimmie Ward in the third quarter Sunday, but the offense managed only a field goal after halftime as the unit’s second-half struggles continued. Houston’s offense scored 10 points after halftime in a 34-10 win over the Cowboys on Monday night, but has combined for just nine points in the second half of its past three losses. “We have to create positive plays,” coach DeMeco Ryans said. “Too many times, whether it’s run or pass, we have a negative play which kills our drive. First things first, how can we sustain positive plays and build drives? Too many drives were stalled out before we could even get started.” Despite the offensive struggles, the Texans still had a chance to tie the game with less than two minutes to go. But Ka’imi Fairbairn’s 28-yard field goal sailed wide left. What's working The Texans tied a franchise record with eight sacks Sunday. Danielle Hunter had a season-high three to give him 10 1/2 this season, which leads the team. Will Anderson Jr. added two in his return after missing two games with an ankle injury and has a career-high 9 1/2 this season. Houston ranks second in the NFL with 42 sacks entering Monday. What needs help Houston had just 40 yards rushing Sunday in a game where Joe Mixon had his worst performance of the season. Mixon, who ran for 109 yards and three touchdowns against the Cowboys, had a season-low 22 yards on 14 carries. “They’re a really good front, we knew that going into the game,” Ryans said. “But it doesn’t matter. Every front is good. You have to own the line of scrimmage. You have to be able to control the line of scrimmage and run the ball. We didn’t. We had too many negative plays in the running game.” The performance was Houston’s second-worst rushing game of the season after the team had 38 yards rushing in a loss to Minnesota in Week 3 when Mixon was out with an injury. Matt Gaetz , pushing the fate of any resolution to the yearslong investigation of sexual misconduct allegations into further uncertainty. The nearly party-line votes came after Democrats had been pressing for the findings to be published even though the Florida Republican left Congress and withdrew as President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for attorney general. Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Calif., was the sole Republican to support the effort. Most Republicans have argued that any congressional probe into Gaetz ended when he resigned from the House. Speaker Mike Johnson also requested that the committee not publish its report, saying it would be a terrible precedent to set. While ethics reports have previously been released after a member’s resignation, it is extremely rare. Shortly before the votes took place, Rep. Sean Casten, D-Ill., who introduced one of the bills to force the release, said that if Republicans reject the release, they will have “succeeded in sweeping credible allegations of sexual misconduct under the rug.” Gaetz has repeatedly denied the claims. Earlier Thursday, the Ethics panel met to discuss the Gaetz report but made no decision, saying in a short statement that the matter is still being discussed. It's unclear now whether the document will ever see the light of day as lawmakers only have a few weeks left before a new session of Congress begins. It's the culmination of weeks of pressure on the Ethics committee's five Republicans and five Democrats who mostly work in secret as they investigate allegations of misconduct against lawmakers. The status of the Gaetz investigation became an open question last month when he abruptly resigned from Congress after Trump's announcement that he wanted his ally in the Cabinet. It is standard practice for the committee to end investigations when members of Congress depart, but the circumstances surrounding Gaetz were unusual, given his potential role in the new administration. Michael Guest, R-Miss., the committee chairman, said Wednesday that there is no longer the same urgency to release the report given that Gaetz has left Congress and stepped aside as Trump's choice to head the Justice Department. “I’ve been steadfast about that. He’s no longer a member. He is no longer going to be confirmed by the Senate because he withdrew his nomination to be the attorney general,” Guest said. And it’s perhaps no surprise that NYC landed in the top spot for American cities in the world but No. 6 overall. The city that never sleeps moved up a few slots compared to 2022 when it landed at No. 10. The London-based market research company cited Paris for its “unmatched global dominance in 2024,” most notably due to tourism from “a wide array of sporting events it hosted throughout the year, including the Summer Olympic Games.” Following Paris’ high rating comes Madrid (2), Tokyo (3), Rome (4) and Milan (5). But the opposite end kicks off with Cairo in 100th place, followed by Chinese city Zhuhai in 99th and Jerusalem in 98th. New Brunswick's child and youth advocate has delivered a mostly failing grade to the provincial government's work on recommendations in 2021 to address mental health issues among First Nations youth. In a report released Monday morning, Kelly Lamrock calls the government's efforts "lacklustre," concluding that it took no action on 12 of the 20 recommendations and only "somewhat implemented" the eight others. He told reporters that the response has been "profoundly underwhelming." Lamrock called for a "nation-to-nation" approach to the issue, including co-management by the province and First Nations governments of funding for mental health services. "At some point one either accepts that we need a distinct process to deal with the crisis in First Nations communities or we do not," Lamrock said. "And that dividing line really animates the report. My submission respectfully to the legislature is we do, and we have not had one." He noted that young Indigenous people are almost eight times as likely to take their own lives as other New Brunswick youth. "Anybody that thinks you can simply attack this problem by saying 'take the strategy for the whole province and add Aboriginal people' probably has not reflected long enough on the very unique causes and very unique challenges in First Nations communities." Lamrock asked government departments for an accounting of their work on the proposals submitted by a First Nations advisory council to his predecessor Norm Bossé, as part of the advocate's broader review of suicide prevention and youth mental health services. He said the responses "do not meaningfully address the substance of the recommendations," often equating the creation of committees — or just the discussion of who might sit on committees — with concrete actions. "In several cases it appears that authorities are providing unrelated or tangential responses as a means to avoid rejecting the recommendations," he wrote. "This indicates both a failure of the authorities to address the issue and a failure to take accountability for their inaction." Lamrock's report makes five new recommendations that he says are intended to "kickstart this process after three lost years," including a "nation-to-nation" agreement with First Nations for the co-management of funding for youth mental health services. Lack of action has 'huge costs' Roxanne Sappier, who co-chaired the advisory council for Bossé's report, said she was hopeful the proposals would spark movement. "The lack of action means that our youth are suffering, that we're not meeting the needs of our families in our communities, and that has huge, huge costs," she said. In a statement, Rob McKee, the Liberal minister responsible for mental health and addiction services, said "a number of initiatives are underway ...and are in various stages of implementation" — the kind of phrasing that Lamrock's report criticized.. McKee's statement said that includes creating programs that are "culturally safe" for Indigenous people, but he did not mention the idea of co-managing funding. Lamrock also called for clearer accounting of federal funds transferred to the province for First Nations mental health to ensure it's being spent properly and the creation of clear indicators for measuring progress. He was reluctant to discuss whether the previous Progressive Conservative government of Blaine Higgs was to blame or whether the new Liberal government of Premier Susan Holt would make a difference. His job, he said, was to report to the legislature — meaning 49 MLAs from three different parties — and leave it to them to hold specific politicians accountable. "My job is to say what has come out of the department, and it's nothing." In order to be a useful roadmap for us, to make rational decisions going forward, the best way to do it is to identify what kinds of things we need in different parts of parks and open space so that we can then get past all that confusion and focus on specific actions that we can take.” Mayor Alice Fredericks pointed out one small, but important, edit, noting that the term “open space” is not in the title of the master plan. She acknowledged that open space is clearly recognized throughout the plan. “The policy history of this town is that open space is a recreational amenity and the educational amenity that defines us,” Fredericks said. The plan zones various parks and open spaces based on area characteristics, such as suitability for recreational use. Welner noted how the R1 zone — labeled as active and recreational — includes McKegney Green, Richardson Bay Lineal Park and Teather Park. “I think they are very different spots,” Welner said. “I kind of think there is R1 sub a and R1 sub b.” Welner said Richardson Bay Lineal Park is the “gem” of Tiburon and wanted to be sure it doesn’t get overdeveloped because it has visual value. Fredericks said there are other items in the plan that the community had previously rejected, and that circumstances could change. “As we add or change the amenities in that area, the needs will change and the need for that kind of storage may increase,” Fredericks said. “It may decrease, but I think this is not a decisionmaking process now. It is a framework for the decision makers, so leaving something in, even if it were to be rejected, really is the better avenue to go.” The Town Council asked to add a statement that residents later might want uses not outlined by the plan. This would leave the storage concept open for discussion in the future. The plan also includes a list of early-action, short-term items. Welner said many of the items — a public water-sport launch, shaded areas and picnic tables at parks, neighborhood park upgrades — are low-hanging fruit, and the town should be working to address them as soon as possible. “I don’t want to wait too long,” Welner said. “I’d love to do the early-action items and I really like the inclusion of that kind of list.” Councilmember Isaac Nikfar suggested having the Parks, Open Space and Trails Commission come up with a list of under 10 of the easier, high-priority projects that could be shovel-ready in six to 12 months. The council also approved all the recommendations made by the commission last month. Now, in an 11-year study of more than 1.2 million Kaiser Permanente members in Southern California ages 60 and up, a group of doctors from around the country said that rates of dementia rose significantly among residents who had been frequently exposed to wildfire smoke over a three-year-long period . “Wildfires, once rare and geographically confined, now regularly impact populations across the US,” the physicians said. “Anthropogenic climate change has increased wildfire frequency and intensity, eroding gains in air quality achieved under the Clean Air Act in the Western US.” They noted that wildfire-generated particulate matter accounts for the majority of people’s exposure to PM2.5 on poor air quality days in California. The authors said every one-microgram-per-square-meter increase of wildfire-generated air pollution “was associated with an 18 percent increase in the odds of dementia diagnosis.” Those who were under the age of 75 when they entered the study appeared more prone to negative effects compared with people who were older. The link between wildfire smoke and dementia was stronger among participants who were Black and Hispanic. Others were also disproportionately affected including people living in poorer areas and minorities. “These latter findings underscore the importance of research that considers the effects of air pollution on potentially vulnerable population subgroups and aims to identify potential strategies to mitigate inequities in air pollution exposure effects,” researchers wrote.
