The iPad Mini 7 is now available for $500, although it's been reduced to $450 on Amazon. The compact iPad Mini 7 has gone everywhere with me this past week, fitting easily into bags and purses without weighing them down. Aside from the more powerful A17 Pro chip, the iPad Mini 7 isn't much of an upgrade (especially for 6th-gen users), plus its display tops out at 60Hz. I've used many tablets in my day but never considered getting an iPad Mini . Because of its size, the small 8.3-inch tablet has always been the go-to for my nieces and nephews, and I never really saw a need for a small tablet when I already have a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max . Also: The 20 best Black Friday iPad deals 2024: Early sales live now However, my perception changed when I began using the recently released iPad Mini 7. I've always loved a big display on a tablet, but I underestimated just how convenient a compact iPad would be in my daily life. I've taken the iPad Mini 7 everywhere this week, able to slip the 8.3-inch device into my purse without it weighing down -- or sticking out of -- my bag. iPad Mini 7 (2024) The 2024 iPad Mini 7 is an 8.3-inch tablet with 128GB, 256GB, 512GB storage options and four colors: Blue, Purple, Starlight, and Space Gray. As a result, I've used the iPad Mini in different situations where I've found myself looking for entertainment, including during long medical infusions that required me to sit in a chair for nearly five hours. Also: iPad Air (2024) review: Apple's M2 tablet is the iPad most people should buy Unfortunately, that's where the iPad Mini 7 hits its limits: entertainment. This small tablet isn't a power user's dream or a remote worker's take-anywhere solution. Truthfully, it's easier to work on my cheaper iPad 10th Generation than on the $500 iPad Mini 7, so it's hard to justify the price for a tablet that's mostly good for playing games and consuming media. The iPad 10th Generation's larger screen gives me more real estate to edit photos and videos, and there are many reputable keyboard options for writing and editing documents. However, the iPad 10th Generation doesn't support the Apple Pencil Pro or Apple Intelligence , which the iPad Mini 7 does. The iPad Calculator's Math Notes will make calculations for you and tell you when you make a mistake (in red). The iPad Mini 7 features the A17 Pro chip, the same processor found in the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max , and is also compatible with Apple Intelligence. I tried Apple Intelligence features in the iPad Mini 7 once iPadOS 18.1 was released a few days ago. This software update includes Writing Tools, the redesigned Siri, Priority Notifications and Messages, Summarization tools, Smart Reply, and the Clean Up tool in Photos. Also: The iPad Mini 7 is almost perfect for me - except its missing one critical feature I found more glitches in Apple's Game Mode than I did using Apple Intelligence, but I wasn't wowed by the iPad Mini's generative AI features. In the iPad Mini's defense, the Game Mode glitches appear to be an iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 issue rather than a device-specific issue. I've encountered the same ones in my iPhone 14 Pro Max since updating to iOS 18. As someone who uses ChatGPT and other generative AI tools daily, I find the Apple Intelligence features need to be more polished and further developed. This isn't all that surprising since Apple has notoriously fallen behind in the AI race, but I, like many other Apple users, was hoping for more. Also: Is your iPhone rebooting after being inactive? It's a feature, not a bug For this reason, and given that the release date for the rest of Apple Intelligence features is TBD, I would not recommend buying an iPad Mini 7 simply because of the AI features. But I recommend it to someone looking for a future-proofed entertainment tablet that can go almost anywhere. ZDNET's buying advice The iPad Mini 7 is compact and fast, and its Apple silicon processor is built to last for years. While I wouldn't buy it for the AI features or to edit media, it's an excellent companion tablet for Apple users looking for a device that can go with them. It also performs well for quick work, like editing a video in CapCut or a social media post in PS Express . Also: 6 useful Final Cut Pro 11 features that will have creatives excited - including iPad users Apple appears steadfast in making Apple Intelligence its future, but the road has been full of obstacles and stumbles. While Apple promises a great generative AI toolset, the company has a lot of balls in the air. If you're on the fence, buy the iPad Mini 7 for the entertainment tablet it is and not what Apple promises it could be. If you're a power user looking for a more capable tablet, you'd do best to look elsewhere . One of the best QLED TVs I've tested isn't made by Samsung or Hisense (and it's $500 off) I finally found a wireless Android Auto adapter that's reliable, functional, and affordable This is the most bizarre portable power station I've tested - and it actually works One of the best cheap soundbars I've tested performs as well as models twice its price
Ormat Announces Public Offering of Common Stock on Behalf of Stockholder ORIX CorporationVictoria Police has announced it's treating the Melbourne synagogue fire as a terrorist attack. The blaze at the Adass Israel synagogue in Ripponlea soon appeared to many, including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, to be motivated by terror, but it took authorities four days to declare it. To the casual onlooker, this might seem odd. On December 6, masked men were seen pouring liquid on the floor while people were inside, before the building burst into flames. Opposition Leader Peter Dutton, among others, was adamant it was clearly an act of terror. But whether or not something is terrorism isn't always easy to determine, nor is the current political argument about it very useful. If holding those responsible is the goal, careful investigation from the outset is the only way to achieve it, even if it means waiting longer. À lire aussi : Albanese announces antisemitism taskforce, as synagogue firebombing investigation upgraded What have police said? In a press conference, Australian Federal Police Deputy Commissioner Krissy Barrett outlined how the investigation has been upgraded from arson to counter-terrorism, based on investigations over the weekend. The main thing that changes operationally is unlocking more resources: more people with specific expertise, more federal and state cooperation and more agencies involved, including ASIO. Legally, it means those responsible potentially face harsher penalties. Any charges laid would likely be related to terrorism rather than regular arson or property destruction. Police have identified three suspects, but have said little about them. This is usual practice in these sorts of investigations as they don't want to alert the perpetrators that authorities are onto them. While police haven't explicitly said so, it's likely they've found evidence of the suspects' motivations. This could include finding their online footprints, social media posts and communications with...

Kellyanne Conway was heard castigating Meghan McCain last week, reportedly taking her to task for past comments made about her marriage, according to the Daily Beast . After appearing on the same panel during The Washington Post’s post-election Global Women’s Summit last Thursday, Conway confronted McCain, a onetime host of “The View.” According to onlookers, Donald Trump insider Conway left McCain shaken after being scolded for calling Conway’s marriage to George Conway “gross” during a slew of years-old television appearances. As one witness told the Daily Beast, “Kellyanne walked up to Meghan and said, ‘I wasn’t going to say this while I was miked but do you remember what you said about me and my marriage on ‘The View’? You called my marriage ‘gross.’” “Meghan looked shaken and was just trying to get out of there,” the observer later added. Both Republican insiders acknowledged the encounter in statements to the Daily Beast. Conway explained how she “waited until the cameras and microphones were off to privately and calmly address the very public insults she has directed at my family.” McCain squirmed at the idea of Conway’s marriage during a 2020 appearance on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live” and on “The View.” Going on the offensive, she went on to say that McCain “may wish to outrun her recent past as a years-long resident Mean Girl on ‘The View’ and Bravo, where her mouth was a spigot of vile and bile hurled toward people and topics she does not know,” namely Conway’s marriage and children. For her part, McCain told the Daily Beast, “It was a bizarre experience and certainly not what I expected when I accepted an invitation to speak at an event hosted by The Washington Post and Tina Brown.” “The only reason why their marriage was ever a hot topic was because they were constantly airing their dirty laundry to America,” she went on. McCain was referring to Conway’s previous public clashes with both her daughter Claudia Conway and her ex-husband, never-Trump conservative George Conway. While the couple announced they were divorcing in spring of 2023, Claudia Conway and her mother made amends after tensions between the two peaked around the 2020 election. The mother-daughter duo opened up about being on opposite ends of the political spectrum during a September episode of Fox Nation’s “Here’s The Deal with Kellyanne Conway.” “I can look at you and love you even though you have a different political opinion than I do,” Claudia Conway told her mom. “And we can be humans at the end of the day. The divisiveness and the lack of unity in our political atmosphere right now is what is going to drive us further apart.” Related From Our PartnerGreg Gumbel, a longtime CBS sportscaster, has died from cancer, according to a statement from family released by CBS on Friday. He was 78. Related video above: Remembering those we've lost in 2024 “He leaves behind a legacy of love, inspiration and dedication to over 50 extraordinary years in the sports broadcast industry; and his iconic voice will never be forgotten,” his wife Marcy Gumbel and daughter Michelle Gumbel said in a statement. In March, Gumbel missed his first NCAA Tournament since 1997 due to what he said at the time were family health issues. Gumbel was the studio host for CBS since returning to the network from NBC in 1998. Gumbel signed an extension with CBS last year that allowed him to continue hosting college basketball while stepping back from NFL announcing duties. In 2001, he announced Super Bowl XXXV for CBS, becoming the first Black announcer in the U.S. to call play-by-play of a major sports championship. David Berson, president and CEO of CBS Sports, described Greg Gumbel as breaking barriers and setting standards for others during his years as a voice for fans in sports, including in the NFL and March Madness. “A tremendous broadcaster and gifted storyteller, Greg led one of the most remarkable and groundbreaking sports broadcasting careers of all time," said Berson. Gumbel had two stints at CBS, leaving the network for NBC when it lost football in 1994 and returning when it regained the contract in 1998. He hosted CBS’ coverage of the 1992 and 1994 Winter Olympics and called Major League Baseball games during its four-year run broadcasting the national pastime. But it was football and basketball where he was best known and made his biggest impact. Gumbel hosted CBS’ NFL studio show, “The NFL Today” from 1990 to 1993 and again in 2004. He also called NFL games as the network’s lead play-by-play announcer from 1998 to 2003, including Super Bowl XXXV and XXXVIII. He returned to the NFL booth in 2005, leaving that role after the 2022 season.

Travis Barker's daughter Alabama turned 19 on December 24, and although she was ill with the flu and unable to celebrate, now revealed her gift haul – receiving over $35,000 in presents. The 19-year-old took to TikTok to speak to her fans, revealing she "didn't get to enjoy [my birthday] because I was so sick but I am back on my feet and I want to give you guys a Christmas haul." "I am so grateful for all my gifts and I wanted to share because some people requested it," she continued, before revealing she received Chrome Heart gloves and pink wallet, as well as a gorgeous diamond necklace from her sister with an "A" and a "B" pendant, and a cross necklace. She was also gifted a $7,000 Barbie pink Balenciaga bag in calfskin with rhinestones, and a black Prada bucket purse with diamante detailing. A third purse was a vintage Dior purse in chrome, and she also received a "so cute" tweed and leather Chanel back pack, which she said was a gift from Kris, presumably step-mom Kourtney Kardashian's mom Kris Jenner. "It's like a tradition now, every year I get a better one," she said, showing off the bracelets she also had for her 16th and 17th birthdays. "My dad has some of the best style and he got me this jacket," she said, revealing a stunning leather duster with a fur collar and gold detailing on the buckle. The teen also received two Poster Girls dresses, totally over $1,250, and a latex corset from the brand, as well as a $500 Jean Paul Gaultier dress that featured mesh detailing and the appearance of a $100 bill, and a Jean Paul Gaultier printed beach cover-up, worth over $350. Balenciaga's 110mm Essex boots, worth over $2,400 were also a gift from her dad, as was a vintage Cavalli cow print jacket, and the Gucci Horsebit Platform Slingback Loafer Pumps, which retail for $1500 – and have also been worn by Taylor Swift. "You guys know I love my lace so I got a lace Dolce catsuit," Alabama continued – the Dolce & Gabban a catsuit retails for $2000 – before squealing and revealing her "favorite gift of all," a brand new Birkin bag, which is available for $24,000.
