Nov. 15, 2024 Johnson tells reporters that he would urge the Ethics Committee not to release their report on their probe into Gaetz. The speaker says he didn’t think it was "relevant" for the public to know what’s in the report. An attorney representing two women who were witnesses in the House Ethics Committee's investigation tells ABC News one of his clients testified that she witnessed the Florida congressman having sex with a minor. Nov. 19, 2024 Trump backer and Tesla/SpaceX/X CEO Elon Musk backs Gaetz despite more stories about his scandals coming to light. Musk said the scandals were "worth less than nothing" and called the former congressman "our Hammer of Justice," in a post on X. Johnson denied that he discussed the details of the draft ethics report on the Gaetz matter with House Ethics Chairman Michael Guest, and further denied that Trump or Gaetz pressured him to bury the report. A hacker gained access to an online secure document-sharing file between attorneys involved in a civil lawsuit brought by a close friend to Gaetz , and potentially revealed documents, including unredacted depositions from key witnesses in the case, sources familiar with the matter told ABC News. Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee write to FBI Director Christopher Wray to request the complete evidentiary file in the bureau's closed investigation into Gaetz. The Ethics Committee voted against releasing the report after multiple rounds of votes, with all Republicans on the committee voting against its release, during a closed-door, two-hour meeting. The committee schedules another meeting in December. Two Democrats introduce privileged resolutions to make the report public. Nov. 21, 2024 Johnson says said the House will take up the privileged resolution to force the release of the Gaetz report after Thanksgiving break. Gaetz announces on X that he is withdrawing his name from the nomination process. "While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition," he said in the post. Illinois Democratic Rep. Sean Casten suggests that he plans to still move forward with forcing the House to vote on compelling the Ethics Committee to release the Gaetz report.

It was more Marta Magic. That goal last weekend helped propel the Orlando Pride into Saturday's National Women's Soccer League championship game against the Washington Spirit. Barbra Banda also scored in the Pride's 3-2 semifinal victory over the Kansas City Current . While Banda has had an incredible first season with the Pride, captain Marta has been the talisman that has helped lead the team in its remarkable turnaround this year. The last time the Pride were in the NWSL playoffs was in 2017 — Marta's first year with the club. But this season they nearly went undefeated, going 23 games without a loss to start the season before losing 2-0 to the Portland Thorns with just two regular-season games left. “I think because of the way that we did it, during this season, from beginning to now, it’s something very special that I’ve never had before with any other club that I’ve played for," Marta said. "Plus year by year, we see in America, strong competition. This is the best league in the world. And you never know what’s going to happen, and it’s hard to keep winning the games, being in the first place almost like the whole season. That’s why it’s really different and so special.” Marta’s goal was the latest gasp-inducing moment in a stellar career filled with them. Known by just her first name, the 38-year-old is a six-time FIFA world player of the year. "Let's see if tomorrow I can do something similar — or even better," Marta said on Friday. She has also played in Sweden and in the U.S. professional women's leagues that came before the NWSL. With nine regular-season goals, Marta has had one of her best seasons since she joined the Pride. “I can never pick a side, I never pick favorites — but I love to see this for Marta," U.S. coach Emma Hayes said. “Marta is someone we all like, admire and are grateful for. And that goal was just like prime Marta at her best. And so grateful for and thankful for her that she got the opportunity with another game with her team.” The Pride went 18-2-6 this season, clinching the NWSL Shield for the first trophy in club history. NCDRC had said in its decision that charging excessive interest rate from customers on credit card dues is unfair trade practice. This decision has come on the appeals filed by Citibank, American Express, HSBC and Standard Chartered Bank against the order of NDCRC dated July 7, 2008. The Commission had said that interest rates ranging from 36 per cent to 49 per cent per annum on credit card dues are very high and are like exploitation of borrowers. A bench of Justice Bela M Trivedi and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma said that this comment of NCDRC is ‘illegal’ and is an interference in the clear, unambiguous delegation of powers of the Reserve Bank of India. The court said that the decision of the Commission not to charge interest rate more than 30 percent is contrary to the legislative objective of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949. In its December 20 verdict, the apex court said that the banks had not made any misrepresentation to deceive the credit card holders and the pre-conditions of ‘deceptive conduct’ and unfair practices were absent. The court said that the NCDRC has no right to re-fix the terms of the contract made between the banks and the credit card holders which were mutually agreed upon by both the parties. The bench said, “We agree with the arguments of the Reserve Bank of India that in the facts and circumstances of the present case, the question of directing the RBI to take action against any bank does not arise.” Along with this, the court said that contrary to the provisions of the Banking Regulation Act and the circulars/directives issued under it, the question of directing the Reserve Bank to impose a limit on the interest rate on the entire banking sector or any one bank does not arise. The apex court said that the National Consumer Commission has full authority to cancel unfair contracts imposed unilaterally or having unfair and unreasonable conditions. But the rate of interest charged by the banks is determined by financial prudence and RBI instructions. Also, the Sens appear to be loading up their second line with the likes of Tim Stutzle and Drake Batherson joining Giroux on a line. In any case, the Sens should have three lines that can score and have the pieces to have a responsible fourth line even. Maybe these new combos are the magic needed for the season. Linus Ullmark draws in tonight for a Sens team that really wants to win. Of course, in November there is no such thing as a must win game, but this sure as heck feels like one. The Ottawa Senators and the One They Call Bath Man Vancouver Looks to Stay Above the Curve For the Vancouver Canucks , they are looking to stay in the conversation as a playoff team. Even falling back to where they are currently, as only a playoff contender, feels like a bit of a disappointment. They have plenty of positives and negatives. Their Vezina-calibre goaltender, Thatcher Demko , only just resumed practicing with the club. Kevin Lankinen has finally found his stride and is due for the start tonight, as a great example of mixing the good with the bad. Also, a Canuck star, J.T. Miller has had to step away from the club. However, Dakota Joshua is recently back following an off-season health scare. The Canucks will look to work hard in this one, but like the Sens, struggle with consistency. For Sens fans, Erik Brannstrom returns tonight to the team he called home for his first six NHL seasons. He has been a pleasant surprise for the Canucks, in less than 15 minutes of ice time, he is already up to six points. Senator fans know his value, and he has the potential to be a great third-pair defenceman in this league. NHL Predictions: Canucks and Senators Based on our analysis, Ottawa needs a win at home. Luckily for them, Vancouver isn’t quite refined to be able to prevent that from factoring in. Prediction: Ottawa wins in regulation, 5-2.
