Treasuries failed to hold an initial gain after the data with the yield on the benchmark 10-year rising to 4.27%. The dollar rallied after a report that Chinese leaders are considering allowing their currency to weaken as they brace for higher tariffs under a second Trump presidency. Wall Street’s fear gauge, the Vix, fell below 14 following the report, an indication the market is expecting calm in the near-term. Witnesses told police that James McIntyre, 33, of Chicago, shook Mace's hand in an “exaggerated, aggressive” manner after approaching the South Carolina Republican in the Rayburn House Office Building on Tuesday evening, according to a police affidavit. Mace, who is identified only by her initials in a court filing, posted a string of social media messages about the incident. She said she was “physically accosted” at the Capitol, and she thanked President-elect Donald Trump for calling her Wednesday morning to check on her condition. “I’m going to be fine just as soon as the pain and soreness subside,” Mace wrote. Mace declined to be treated by a paramedic after her encounter with McIntyre, who was arrested Tuesday by the Capitol Police, the affidavit says. Mace told police that McIntyre said, “Trans youth serve advocacy,” while shaking her hand. Vance takes on a more visible transition role, working to boost Trump's most contentious picksWASHINGTON, Nov 22 (Reuters) - As he sought to overturn his 2020 election loss, Donald Trump considered firing the leadership of the Justice Department and installing a loyalist who would echo his false claims of fraud. As he prepares to return to the White House, Trump is pushing to install an attorney general who supported him in that effort. Pam Bondi, Trump's pick for attorney general, said Trump had won the battleground state of Pennsylvania as votes were still being counted, and implied fraud was taking place. "We do have evidence of cheating," Bondi said on Fox News , opens new tab on Nov. 5, 2020, two days after the election, citing ballots allegedly being "dumped" and mailed to dead people. "We are not going anywhere until they declare that we won Pennsylvania," she said. Trump would go on to lose the state, and the election. No evidence has emerged to support his claims of widespread fraud. If confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as the nation's top law enforcement officer, Bondi, 59, would oversee the Justice Department's efforts to combat election fraud, campaign finance violations, public corruption and to protect Americans' voting rights. Some former prosecutors question whether she would be willing to push back if Trump asks her to launch investigations based on flimsy claims. "I think being an election denier should be disqualifying for anyone to be attorney general," said Randall Eliason, a former federal prosecutor. Trump's transition team did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Both Trump's former Attorney General Bill Barr and his deputy, Jeffrey Rosen, refused his demands to pursue voter fraud investigations in 2020. Jeffrey Clark, a former top Justice Department lawyer, later tried to convince Trump to appoint him as acting attorney general to launch voter fraud probes. Trump declined to do so after other senior department leaders threatened to resign in protest. Bondi has not faced any legal repercussions for her involvement in the effort to advance Trump's false narrative of a stolen election, unlike others who have faced prosecution or disbarment, and her name only came up once in the 845-page report by the Democratic-led U.S. House congressional committee that investigated the scheme. Since serving as Florida attorney general from 2011-2019, she has emerged as one of Trump's most vocal defenders. But while there's no shortage of AI stocks to choose from, a few stand out among the rest. Broadcom ( AVGO 5.32% ) is one of the tech companies that is a unique play in the artificial intelligence market and could be a good long-term investment. Here are three reasons the stock is a buy right now. 1. It's tapping into a unique AI niche One of Broadcom's biggest opportunities comes from its application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) that are used in AI data center infrastructure. Leading tech companies, including Alphabet and Meta Platforms , already use Broadcom's chips to help with their AI infrastructure, and more opportunities could be on the way. Companies continue to expand their data centers and AI training needs, creating the perfect environment for Broadcom's high-end niche semiconductors, with one J.P. Morgan analyst estimating the company's total addressable market in AI chips could be $150 billion. Results for the third quarter (ending Sept. 30) showed just how well Broadcom is tapping into its AI prospects, with management raising its fiscal 2024 AI chip sales outlook to $12 billion, an increase from its previous estimate of $11 billion. 2. AI spending is accelerating Broadcom is tapping into a unique AI opportunity with its ASICs at a time when tech giants are investing mountains of money into AI data centers. Broadcom's forward price-to-earnings ratio (P/E) is currently 27.6, which is cheaper than Nvidia's forward P/E ratio of 34 and Advanced Micro Devices 's 28.4. While it's not necessarily cheap, it is technically less expensive, making it a potentially better deal for investors looking for a well-priced AI stock. If you're on the fence about buying Broadcom now, you could wait to see if the shares pull back a bit. But with the company already successfully tapping into AI semiconductor demand and working with the top tech companies as AI spending is accelerating, owning its shares looks like a good long-term bet.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — A South Korean legislative push to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol over his short-lived imposition of martial law fell through on Saturday after most lawmakers from his conservative governing party boycotted the vote. The defeat of the motion is expected to intensify public protests calling for Yoon’s ouster and deepen political chaos in South Korea, with a survey suggesting a majority of South Koreans support the president’s impeachment. Yoon’s martial law declaration drew criticism from his own ruling conservative party, but it is also determined to oppose Yoon’s impeachment apparently because it fears losing the presidency to liberals. Impeaching Yoon required support from two-thirds of the National Assembly, or 200 of its 300 members. The opposition parties who brought the impeachment motion had 192 seats, but only three lawmakers from PPP participated in the vote. The motion was scrapped without ballot counting because the number of votes didn’t reach 200. National Assembly Speaker Woo Won Shik called the result “very regrettable” and an embarrassing moment for the country’s democracy that has been closely watched by the world. “The failure to hold a qualified vote on this matter means we were not even able to exercise the democratic procedure of deciding on a critical national issue,” he said. Opposition parties could submit a new impeachment motion after a new parliamentary session opens next Wednesday. There are worries that Yoon won’t be able to serve out his remaining 2 1⁄2 years in office because his leadership took a huge hit. Many experts say some ruling party lawmakers could eventually join opposition parties’ efforts to impeach Yoon if public demands for it grow further. If Yoon is impeached, his powers will be suspended until the Constitutional Court decides whether to remove him from office. If he is removed, an election to replace him must take place within 60 days. Woo repeatedly urged ruling party members to return to the chamber to participate in the vote, waiting several hours for them to come. At one point, Democratic Party leaders visited a hall on the floor below the main chamber where PPP lawmakers were gathered, attempting to persuade them to vote. After being blocked from entering, they angrily accused the conservatives’ leadership of preventing its lawmakers from voting freely. Earlier Saturday, Yoon issued a public apology over the martial law decree, saying he won’t shirk legal or political responsibility for the declaration and promising not to make another attempt to impose martial law. He said would leave it to his party to chart a course through the country’s political turmoil, “including matters related to my term in office.” “The declaration of this martial law was made out of my desperation. But in the course of its implementation, it caused anxiety and inconveniences to the public. I feel very sorry over that and truly apologize to the people who must have been shocked a lot,” Yoon said. Since taking office in 2022, Yoon has struggled to push his agenda through an opposition-controlled parliament and grappled with low approval ratings amid scandals involving himself and his wife. In his martial law announcement on Tuesday night, Yoon called parliament a “den of criminals” bogging down state affairs and vowed to eliminate “shameless North Korea followers and anti-state forces.” The turmoil resulting from Yoon’s bizarre and poorly-thought-out stunt has paralyzed South Korean politics and sparked alarm among key diplomatic partners like the U.S. and Japan. Tuesday night saw special forces troops encircling the parliament building and army helicopters hovering over it, but the military withdrew after the National Assembly unanimously voted to overturn the decree, forcing Yoon to lift it before daybreak Wednesday. The declaration of martial law was the first of its kind in more than 40 years in South Korea. Eighteen lawmakers from the ruling party voted to reject Yoon’s martial law decree along with opposition lawmakers. Yoon’s speech fueled speculation that he and his party may push for a constitutional amendment to shorten his term, instead of accepting impeachment, as a way to ease public anger over the marital law and facilitate Yoon’s early exit from office. Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the main liberal opposition Democratic Party, told reporters that Yoon’s speech was “greatly disappointing” and that the only way forward is his immediate resignation or impeachment. His party called Yoon’s martial law “unconstitutional, illegal rebellion or coup.” The passage of Yoon’s impeachment motion appeared more likely Friday when the chair of Yoon’s party called for his removal on Friday, but the party remained formally opposed to impeachment. The Defense Ministry said Friday it suspended three military commanders including the head of the defense counterintelligence unit over their involvement in enforcing martial law.
