An Azerbaijan Airlines flight which crashed on Christmas Day in Kazakhstan was reportedly hit by “external interference” over Russia, according to Azerbaijan’s transport minister, Rashad Nabiyev . The crash, which claimed 38 lives, occurred after the plane, a Brazilian-made Embraer 190, was diverted to Kazakhstan from Russia’s Chechnya region due to damage sustained during flight, reports BBC. Passengers onboard reported hearing three blasts above Grozny, leading to speculation that the aircraft had been struck by Russian air defense systems. Also Read: Azerbaijan Airliner Crash Kills 38: Weather, Russia Under Scrutiny Russian authorities have yet to comment, though Dmitry Yadrov, head of Russia’s civil aviation agency, claimed that the region was under threat from Ukrainian drone attacks, and a “Carpet plan” was enacted, clearing aircraft from the area. He also mentioned dense fog over Grozny airport, which could have contributed to the incident. The U.S. government has confirmed receiving early indications that Russian air defense systems may have downed the plane, although they have refrained from making a definitive statement. Azerbaijan Airlines has pointed to “physical and technical external interference,” which experts believe involved GPS jamming and missile shrapnel damage, BBC adds. One flight attendant described hearing a “strike,” which injured her arm. Pilot Tahir Agaguliev speculated that the missile exploded nearby, with shrapnel damaging the aircraft’s hydraulics. Despite the damage, the pilots managed to land the plane, saving 29 lives. Azerbaijan is demanding Russia acknowledge its responsibility for the incident, similar to the apology Russia extended in 2020 when it shot down an Azerbaijani helicopter. Meanwhile, Azerbaijan Airlines suspended flights to several Russian cities, including Grozny and Sochi, citing security concerns. The investigation is ongoing, with Azerbaijan pushing for an international inquiry rather than one led by Russia or Kazakhstan. The response was fast and furious, with AI gaining +26% on the day and +50% over the next 5 sessions hitting a peak just shy of $40. However, the bullish hue has soured a bit pulling back the last 3 sessions and dropping 10%. We're going to examine whether the bull run is over and how to trade it using our PFP system (positioning, flows and price action). Options Positioning in $AI Looking at the options positioning in the ticker, our proprietary apps tell me we have about 25% of the notional gamma coming off the board this Friday and another large chunk for the December options expiration (op-ex). With three out of every five options being a call, we have to assume there are more calls coming off the board than puts. This leaves the stock weakening in the short term, and so this current pullback seems warranted. However, the topping around $40 seems natural from a positioning standpoint as this is the TCS (top call strike), so I suspect profit taking and the culling of long calls is the main culprit behind this pullback. The TGS (top gamma strike) is at $35, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the stock start to stick around the $35 strike to end the week. As long as we hold $30, we retain a bullish hue on the stock and will look to buy dips. Thus, positioning wise, I'm still bullish and looking to buy, despite the 10% pullback targeting $40/41 for the December op-ex. Only on a daily close under $30 would I shift to bearish. [Get the Market’s Fastest-Growing Stocks for 75% Off] Price Action in $AI In alignment with the positioning, if we look at the chart below, we can see there are three impulsive moves in response to the partnership news with Microsoft showing a high imbalance with the bulls. 1-hour $AI chart The pullback over the last three sessions has been ‘corrective' which suggests a low imbalance of put buying and/or call selling. This means the overall price action is communicating the flows are still more likely to be bullish if they come in with size/verve. Hence, the overall price action is still leaning bullish. Flows in $AI While the flows on the day are a mild amount of call selling and an even milder amount of put buying, these notional deltas are nowhere near pushing ‘impulsive/aggressive', thus overall the flows (while mildly bearish in the last 3 sessions), we suspect this is part holidays and part profit taking with no aggression to the downside. Until I see real verve in the selling/put buying, the overall flows are leaning bullish over a medium term, thus we're retaining a bullish contour on the stock. How We're Trading $AI We're looking to buy dips in $AI targeting $40 for the Dec op-ex and perhaps $45 for the Jan op-ex. In terms of where we are buying $AI, that will depend upon the PFP, but I'll consider the TGS or TPS/BBP to get long. Amidst poverty and disease in post- World War II Naples, the Italian Communist Party arranged for the opportunity for poorer children from southern Italy to board a train bound for northern Italy, where more stable host families would temporarily adopt these children, with more resources available to nurture them and give them a better life. The Children’s Train tells a fictional story based on these real-life historical conditions, but is it compelling enough to stream on Netflix? THE CHILDREN’S TRAIN : STREAM IT OR SKIP IT? The Gist: Based on the novel by Italian author Viola Adrone , The Children’s Train follows Amerigo (Christian Cervone), a young boy living in poverty with his mother Antonietta (Serena Rossi) in post-war Naples. Antonietta agrees to send Amerigo north through the Italian Communist Party’s “trains of happiness” program, which will set him up with a host family better-equipped to care for a child. Things don’t go quite as planned when Amerigo’s initial family falls through and he’s taken in by single woman Derna (Barbara Ronchi), with her brother’s large family becoming Amrigo’s by extension. Ultimately, Amerigo will feel conflict between the birth mother he misses and the surrogate family who cares for him in her absence. What Will It Remind You Of?: If you’ve seen an Italian drama where barefooted children scamper through the street, you might feel a twinge of familiarity during this one. Performance Worth Watching: Barbara Ronchi does the most nuanced and complicated work as a woman who initially has more loyalty to her political party than interest in helping to raise a child, even temporarily. Sex and Skin: Nope. The story is told almost entirely from a child’s point of view. Memorable Dialogue: “Come and see the oven!” It’s not a great line on its own, but after Amerigo has been told lies about the host families deciding to eat their new charges, his new family’s enthusiastic entreaty to come see the oven up close results in a funny misunderstanding. Our Take: There’s a heartbreaking series of contrasts at the heart of The Children’s Train , between a mother’s love for her son and her ability to provide it; between what a woman assumes about her own capacity to care for a child, and what she learns about herself as she does the job; and between a boy’s complicated feelings about both parental figures, and how that’s mixed up with socioeconomic comforts. But while the movie is handsomely assembled, it never feels truly immersive as it addresses those feelings, instead taking on an episodic structure that feels like large chunks of the source material must have been cut for time. Necessitating a fair amount of set-up and running just 96 minutes before credits, the movie itself winds up feeling as divided between its two principal locations as its young hero, but not in a productive way. By the time Amerigo feels fully adjusted to life in northern Italy, that section of the film turns out to be wrapping up, and the movie essentially lays its big emotional climax on the shoulders of a character who hasn’t been on screen for much of the past hour. Without more detailed characterization, the movie, frankly, resembles an odd cross between an interesting anecdote and an extended guilt trip, moreso than the tearjerker it’s aiming for. Our Call: If you’re looking for the kind of awards-level foreign-language films that often appear in limited release around the end of the year, SKIP IT, though the movie is watchable enough. Arguments over whether Luigi Mangione is a 'hero' offer glimpse into unusual American momentLOS ANGELES (AP) — Right when the Los Angeles Rams' offense has dropped into a disconcerting slump, their defense has held three straight opponents under 10 points for the first time in decades. Although the Rams (10-6) are closing in on an NFC West title and another playoff berth with a five-game winning streak, the way they're doing it makes their postseason prospects quite unpredictable. The methodology has been strange, but the results are not: After holding off Arizona 13-9 on Saturday night, Los Angeles has won nine of 11 and is very close to claiming its fourth division title and sixth playoff berth in coach Sean McVay's eight seasons. “I’m proud of this group and the way they battled back,” Matthew Stafford said. “A lot of people doubted us, and a lot of people wrote us off at 1-4. To be able to sit here with our record what it is right now, I feel proud of this group.” The Rams hadn't held three straight opponents to single-digit scoring since 1975, but rookie coordinator Chris Shula's defense has done it with a strong front and a little luck on the back end, including the last-minute interception by Ahkello Witherspoon on a pass that deflected off star Arizona tight end Trey McBride's head at the goal line. Kyler Murray threw it before McBride was probably ready because Shula had called a zero blitz on first down at the Los Angeles 5. “I want to make more plays to make sure they don’t have to do as much as they did (against Arizona), but I’m proud of them,” Stafford said of the Rams' defense. "It’s awesome to watch where they were in training camp to where they are now. Shula is doing a hell of a job. We all knew he would. Those guys are playing hard for him.” But the Rams have scored more than 21 points just once during their five-game winning streak, their longest since their Super Bowl championship season in 2021. They’ve managed only three touchdowns in their last three games while scoring fewer than 20 points each time out, although that stretch includes games played in the rain (San Francisco) and in subfreezing temperatures (New York Jets). Against the Cardinals in Inglewood's ideal weather, the Rams’ offense still produced one TD, a season-worst 12 first downs and only 257 total yards — 139 fewer than Arizona. The running game struggled again, as it often does when all five starting offensive linemen aren't healthy, while the entire roster aside from Puka Nacua combined for just seven receptions for 60 yards — a surprising number for a McVay offense. “I don’t think there’s one thing I can point to,” McVay said Sunday. “I could go on and on about some of the things, starting with me, but then also about our execution in terms of getting connected in the run game, targeting the right way, making sure that the ball is going where it should go, and guys that I know are capable of playing the way that we’ve seen. If they do that, then I know that it’s not as far as sometimes it can feel like. But ultimately, we’ve got to do it.” What's working The young front four remains the strength of the defense. Jared Verse had a tremendous game on the edge against Murray and Arizona's running game, while fellow rookie Braden Fiske and second-year pros Kobie Turner and Byron Young all recorded sacks. What needs help The Rams again failed to establish the running game despite never trailing Arizona. Kyren Williams got his second-fewest carries of the season (13, with just five in the second half), while rookie Blake Corum was barely involved. Los Angeles' 3.9 yards per rush is the second-lowest mark in the NFL even though Williams began Sunday third in the league with 1,299 yards. Stock up Witherspoon not only made the game-saving interception, but the eight-year veteran who went unsigned until September also has seized the starting cornerback job from Cobie Durant, who didn't play on defense against the Cards despite being healthy again. McVay said Witherspoon's play during Durant's brief injury absence resulted in the change. Stock down Cooper Kupp had one catch against Arizona, and he has just 12 receptions in the past five games, matching the least productive five-game stretch of his eight-year career. Stafford has said the Rams need to get their Super Bowl 56 MVP more involved, and Kupp says he's healthy — yet it isn't happening. Injuries McVay believes the Rams stayed healthy outside of a stinger for rookie safety Kam Kinchens, but they felt the absence of RT Rob Havenstein, who injured his shoulder last week during an unpadded practice. Backup Joe Noteboom committed three holding penalties and got beaten repeatedly. Key number 4 — Stafford's consecutive games without taking a sack. That's the longest streak of his 16-year career, yet he has only one 200-yard passing game in that stretch. Next steps The Rams began Sunday preparing as if they'll play the Seahawks (9-7) next Saturday, although the game could happen a day later. McVay won't show his cards, but if the Rams have clinched, they seem likely to rest several regulars for the playoffs. ___ AP NFL: https://apnews.com/NFL Greg Beacham, The Associated PressIn August 2021, when Sneha Saikia, a Delhi-based home chef who is known for her Table for 6 Luncheon invited me to experience Assamese food and talk about food of other Northeastern state, it was quite an enriching experience that helped me understand the new wave of change humble home kitchens were ready to bring in the dynamic commercial food and beverages market. And today, Sneha along with a brigade of many other home chefs across the country are cooking up a storm, bringing the warmth and authenticity of traditional cooking into modern kitchens, celebrating the essence of home food that nourishes both body and soul. Unlike mass-produced meals, these home-cooked dishes are crafted with care, using fresh ingredients, time-honored recipes, and a personal touch that evokes comfort and nostalgia. Home chefs like Nitika Kuthalia, who is a culinarian and Himalayan chef and runs her Instagram page by the handle Pahadipatal, are preserving cultural heritage, showcasing regional flavors and culinary traditions passed down through generations. They not only cater to taste but also focus on health , ensuring balanced and wholesome meals free from artificial additives. In a fast-paced world, home food reminds us of simplicity, love, and the joy of sharing meals with family and friends—making it more than just food, but an experience rich in memories and emotions, and as the year comes to an end, we trace back the journey of these unsung heroes and what the new year holds for them. Achievements The biggest achievement for many home chefs who are running on-invite tables and even home deliveries in 2024 has been the shift from home kitchen to catering services. The word of mouth and authentic flavours by these home chefs have now reached the mass market, where they are having dedicated stalls or sit-down dinner/lunch setup for regional delicacies these chefs offer. Nitika, who is known for her Himachali food, did a catering of 125 Himachali Dham from her home kitchen. and even hosted a food pop-up at ITC Kohinoor, which helped her broaden her horizon in a commercial kitchen setup too. Abhilasha Jain, who runs her business called Marwadi Khana and expertise in vegetarian Rajasthani food and mithais, hosted Rajasthani three 5-star hotel pop-up and 100+ gathering catering in 2024. And Poushali Mullick, who runs the page called A Pinch of Bong on Instagram, did Bengali food catering for 60 packs in this year, which she is expecting will increase to be in the hundreds in 2025. Challenges "Where there is a will, there is a way", these words of wisdom have helped many home chefs to grow in the post-pandemic times. For Poushali, the biggest challenge has been to manage cooking and promote her work on social media to get more business opportunities. She accepts, "In terms of challenges, I feel balancing between cooking and promoting my work by posting on social media and clicking food shots, is where I lack, but then I guess my food does the talking and even without doing much of promotion I have been mostly occupied with orders, dinner tables, and catering opportunities in 2024." However, I am trying to create a balance and my family is helping me in this regard", she adds. Abhilasha feels that the only challenge her team faced this year had been to adapt the change from a cloud kitchen setup to a massive commercial kitchen setup, where you have to coordinate with a large number of people to execute your menu. Rest, it is always about enjoying what you do and that reflects in the flavours you offer, affirms Abhilasha, who recently did a dedicated Rajasthani cuisine catering for haldi function at a 5-star hotel in Delhi/NCR. Chef's Take Ace chef Anuj Wadhawan, who is currently consulting for several restaurants in India and abroad, believes that home chefs have become true stars in promoting regional cuisines. He explains, "Variety is the spice of life, and while international cuisines are widely available in restaurants and cafes, home chefs are filling a gap by offering authentic Indian dishes that are difficult to include on a commercial menu." He further elaborates, "The popularity of home chefs has also increased in metropolitan cities because people from across the country are residing here and after a while they do miss their authentic regional food , which these home chefs provide with a cosy setup, which helps people reconnect with their roots." Change in Market As per CRISIL's November 2024 data, the cost of a vegetarian thali has increased 7% year-on-year, while the cost of a non-vegetarian thali increased 2% year-on-year. And this shift in price has surely raised concerns for regular diners who love dining out, and that is the reason there are people who are opting out to go for homechefs to either visit their place for a regional food experience or order-in through their social media pages. Pratibha Tripathi, a Gurgaon-resident who lives by herself says that being alone gives me the scope to make impromptu dinner plans, and in 2024, I have made a switch from restaurant to homechef's table, as it is peaceful and you get to experience more personalised attention. Sneha adds, "I recently did a birthday table, where the family opted my house to be their celebration venue over a cafe/restaurant, offering more personalised experience and there is no rush to empty the place." Future File While the market of Delhi/NCR is growing rapidly and according to the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), the food services sector in India is expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.1% from 2024 to 2028, the home chefs feel that the market is right for their growth too and all of them are expecting a booming 2025, were sit-down lunches and dinners and more of catering services will come their way. Abhilasha quips, "I am expecting more catering offers at weddings and luxury hotels in 2025, as it will help me and my team push the envelope and offer more in terms of flavours and at the same time help the team to learn management skills at such a larger setup." Poushali, who enjoys inviting people home and offering food in a cosy setup also feels that cooking for a larger audience from her home kitchen is something that she loves to challenge herself and gives her a sense of achievement, when accomplished. Sneha, on the other hand feels that its the time for us (homechefs) to make people understand the value of home cooked food and the variety that Indian regional cuisines offer, and that can happen only when more and more people will experience it and share about it via social media, which has already helped many home chefs to grow with word of mouth. Nitika is looking forward to flourishing her other dynamic of a home chef, where she makes pickles of seasonal fruits and veggies and makes people understand its benefits too. She also offers homemade panjiri, which she is planning to expand in 2025, as it is something that many people don't know, and I want to spread knowledge about it in the coming year. Takeaway Home chefs are redefining the dining experiences and are now making their ways to larger caterings, which is expected to change the catering business model, in terms of quality, stress on lesser-known regional cuisines, and will also provide job opportunities to many housewives, who wish to grow with their cooking skills, but often miss out opportunities due to lack of information, scope, and opportunities. Shohei Ohtani and his wife announce they are expecting their first childHousing support to help first home buyers to purchase a property will be sent to a vote this week without a deal, meaning it will be shot down unless the Greens or Coalition change their stance. The latest offer by the Greens to strike a deal has been rejected, though the government had consulted to see whether it could be agreed to as time runs out for legislation to be passed. The federal government will now call the bluff of the parties, who if they reject the bill will face campaigning at the federal election that they refused housing support. As the final sitting week of the year closes in — potentially the last before the election — the government is applying pressure to clear its backlog. "It's time for this silly charade to end. Australians are in real housing distress here, and the Greens need to stop working with Peter Dutton to delay action," Housing Minister Clare O'Neil told the ABC. "The Greens have been playing politics on this for two years now, almost everything the Labor government has tried to do on housing the Greens have either blocked or delayed, or played politics with. The time for that is over. "You get the distinct impression the Greens want Australians to continue to be in housing distress, so Adam Bandt can try to harvest those grievances into votes. It's the crassest form of politics there is, straight out of the Peter Dutton playbook. "I hope that they change their behaviour this week." Clare O'Neil accused Max Chandler-Mather and Adam Bandt of playing politics on housing. (ABC News: Chris Gillette) There are two bills before the Senate intended to add more supports for homebuyers and renters: the Help to Buy program, where the government would cover up to 40 per cent of a home's purchase price and take equity in the property that could be bought out later; and Build to Rent, which provides tax incentives for developers to build and maintain apartments with units that are rented out below market rate. The government says... Jake Evans
