But that’s about as easy as it sounds, which is to say it’s not easy at all. So, we’ve done the legwork for you. Start making your list with this compilation of some of the most innovative, functional and fun gifts of 2024. There’s something for every budget. A pepper grinder, really? Bear with me: The new FinaMill Ultimate Spice Grinder set elevates the pedestrian pepper and spice mill in both function and style. Available in three colors (Sangria Red, Midnight Black and Soft Cream), the rechargeable-battery unit grinds with a light touch rather than hand-tiring twists. That’s easier for everyone and especially helpful for those experiencing hand or wrist issues such as arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome or tendinitis. And it’s fun to use. The set includes a stackable storage tray and four pods that can be easily swapped as needed: The GT microplane grater for hard spices, nuts and chocolate; the MAX for large spices and dried herbs; the ProPlus for smaller and oily spices; and the Pepper Pod for, well, pepper. $110. To build a fire Campers and backyard firepit lovers who have experienced the heartbreak of wet wood will appreciate having a three-pack of Pull Start Fire on hand. Made of 89% recycled materials, including sanding dust, wax and flint, the food-safe, eco-friendly, 3-by-2-by-1-inch fire starters will light a fire quickly without matches, lighters or kindling. Just loop the attached green string around a log, incorporate it into a wood stack, and pull the attached red string to ignite. Each windproof, rainproof block burns for 30 minutes. $29.99. The place for a ladle is on the pot The No Mess Utensil Set from Souper Cubes , a company known for its portioned, silicone freezer trays, lives up to its name. The utensils — a serving spoon and a ladle — have innovative, S-shaped handles designed to rest on the edge of a pot, keeping them upright so they won’t slip in. The design also eliminates the need for a spoon rest or, worse, placing dirty utensils on the kitchen counter or stovetop between stirs. A silicone coating in a choice of Aqua, Charcoal, Cranberry or Blueberry keeps handles cool to the touch. $24.99. Up your birdwatching with this feeder The FeatherSnap Wi-Fi smart bird feeder could turn anyone into an avid birdwatcher. Equipped with an HD camera, the dual-chamber feeder enables up-close livestreaming of avian visitors, as well as species-logging via the free mobile app. An optional premium subscription ($59.99 annually or $6.99 monthly) includes unlimited photo and video storage, AI identification with species-specific details, and the opportunity to earn badges for logging new visitors. Turn on notifications to get alerts sent to your phone whenever there’s activity at the feeder. $179.99. Printing old-fashioned photos via Bluetooth Fujifilm's Instax Mini Link 3 smartphone printer offers a touch of nostalgia without sacrificing technology. Just load the 4.9-by-3.5-by-1.3-inch printer with Instax Mini instant film and connect it to your Android or iOS device via Bluetooth to print wallet-size photos. If you want to get fancy, you can adjust brightness, contrast and saturation, or apply filters, including 3D augmented-reality effects, via the free Instax Mini Link app. It can also make collages of up to six images, or animate photos to share on social media. Available in Rose Pink, Clay White and Sage Green. $99.95. Houseplants don't get much easier than this The appropriately named easyplant is one of the best gifts you can give your houseplant-loving friends, regardless of their experience level. Select a pot color, size and plant (or get recommendations based on sunlight requirements, pet friendliness and other attributes) and fill the self-watering container’s built-in reservoir roughly once a month. Moisture will permeate the soil from the bottom as needed, eliminating the often-fatal consequences of over- or under-watering. It’s also a literal lifesaver come vacation time. $49-$259. Making your own (plant-based) milk If you’ve got a no-dairy friend on your list, a plant-based milk maker could save them money while allowing them to avoid sugar, stabilizers, thickeners and preservatives. The Nama M1 appliance both blends and strains ingredients, converting nuts, seeds, grains or oats into velvety-smooth milk in just one minute, with zero grit. And for zero waste, the pasty leftover pulp can be used in other recipes for added nutrients. The device also makes infused oils, flavored waters and soups. And, importantly, cleanup is easy. Available in white and black. $400. The perfect temperature for 350,000-plus wines For friends who prefer stronger beverages, the QelviQ personal sommelier uses “smart” technology to ensure wine is served at its ideal temperature. Unlike traditional wine refrigerators, this device doesn’t take up any floor space. It also doesn’t chill wine to just one or two temperatures based on its color. Instead — paired with the free QelviQ app — the tabletop chiller relies on a database of more than 350,000 wines to bring a bottle to its specific recommended serving temperature in as little as 20 minutes. It also suggests food-wine and wine-food pairings. Plus, the appliance serves as a great icebreaker to inspire dinnertime conversation. Available in Exciting Red, Dashing Black and Dreamy White. $495. Casting light on the grill after dark Grilling food after dark — and ascertaining its doneness — can prove challenging without outdoor lighting, and it’s nearly impossible to cook while holding a flashlight. But as is often the case, the simplest of solutions can make the biggest of impacts: Uncommon Good’s 2-piece LED Grilling Tool Set puts illumination into the handles of its stainless-steel spatula and tongs. After use, the lights can be removed and the utensils run through the dishwasher. $40.Melania Trump speaks out about husband Donald's 'demands' of a wife who 'knew her place' The 2005 clip has resurfaced since Donald won the Presidential Race Melania revealed that her husband did have a set of 'standards' She listed off the things Donald expected of her By KELSI KARRULI FOR DAILYMAIL.COM Published: 21:27, 25 November 2024 | Updated: 21:30, 25 November 2024 e-mail 24 shares 5 View comments Melania Trump lifted the lid on the expectations husband Donald had for her as a wife in a resurfaced clip. The incumbent First Lady has been at the center of headlines ever since her spouse entered the 2024 Presidential Race and pulled off an astonishing political win when he regained his seat in the White House . In a 2005 video, mom-of-one Melania, now 54, revealed during a chat on Larry King Live with Donald that she had to adhere to 'old-fashioned' values before saying 'I do.' When asked if her husband had any 'demands' or if he was 'controlling,' she insisted her spouse wasn't commandeering, but he did have some rules. She explained: 'I knew what I was getting into, Donald has his demands, but I knew this before I said "I do." 'He values loyalty, respect, and he has high expectations. There were things he expected from me, and I respected that. 'Donald wanted a wife who would stand by his side but knew her place.' The former model added that to marry Donald you needed to be 'strong and confident.' Melania Trump lifted the lid on the expectations husband Donald had for her as a wife when they tied the knot in a resurfaced clip In the clip, which saw Donald and Melania chatting on Larry King Live, the mom-of-one revealed that she had to adhere to 'old-fashioned' values before saying 'I do' Social media users flooded the comments section underneath the clip on CNN's YouTube channel and expressed their shock at her admission. One person said: 'Awesome interview. Who else watched this November of 2024?' Someone else wrote: 'Who else is watching this in 2024?' Another user commented: 'They were always like this, even today. But the people wanted to judge and tear Melania down as soon as she became First Lady. She remained classy throughout all of it. I'm not even Republican but I respect people who are respectable.' 'This interview needs to be all over the place right now, on Nov.2nd, 2024. People need to see who these two people really are, and how genuine, kind, intelligent, formidable, and principled they are,' a fourth person wrote. But this isn't the first clip from Melania's past that has been unearthed. Another video from Inside Edition has also reemerged this week, detailing her strict diet. A 2019 report by the publication uncovered what her daily menu looks like, including seven pieces of fruit. The former model added that to marry Donald (seen in 2005 with Melania) you needed to be 'strong and confident' People flooded the comments section and expressed their shock at the resurfaced video The outlet reported that the Melania drank a smoothie for breakfast every morning, which she made by blending together spinach, carrots, blueberries, apple juice and fat-free yogurt. In addition to her nutrition-packed smoothie, the former model tried to eat seven pieces of 'fresh' fruit everyday, and her favorites were said to be apples and peaches. But Melania doesn't always stick to the perfect diet - of course, she indulges at times, just like the rest of us. Inside Edition reported that she also ate dark chocolate and the 'occasional' ice cream, but paid attention to 'portion sizes.' And, when she's back in New York, her favorite place to eat is at the Trump International Hotel on the Upper West Side, of course, - specifically the upscale Jean-Georges restaurant there. Despite being married to the 47th President, Melania has previously admitted that she often wished she could take a step back from the White House and her duties. Earlier this month it was reported by the New York Post that she would be splitting her time between Florida, Washington D.C. and New York, where her 18-year-old son, Barron, is attending college . Melania previously admitted that she often wished she could take a step back from the White House and her duties as she opened up about where she would like to spend the holidays This report drew criticism from people who accused her of 'smothering' her and Donald's son. Melania will be the First Lady on 'her terms' and will be splitting her time between the three places, a Mar-a-Lago source told the New York Post. Both Barron and his mom have made brief appearance on Trump's campaign trail. The 18-year-old student previously appeared at a campaign rally on July 9 in Miami, where he confidently mirrored his father's fist pumping pose and lapped up a standing ovation. He didn't attend the subsequent Republican National Convention, but he got a shout-out from his father at the July 18 event as he told delighted convention-goers, 'We love our Barron.' The BBC announced last week that Lineker will leave his role as host, which he has held since 1999, at the end of the current football season. Saturday’s episode of the football highlights programme opened with pundit Alan Shearer, Lineker’s fellow former England striker, saying direct to the camera: “All good things must come to an end.” Lineker then appeared, and said: “Yes Alan – Lee Carsley’s England reign is over. It’s back to business in the Premier League.” Despite his exit, the 63-year-old will remain with the BBC after both parties agreed to a contract extension through to the 2026 World Cup. Lineker will host BBC Sport’s coverage of the FA Cup in the 2025-26 campaign and continue presenting the Match Of The Day: Top 10 podcast for BBC Sounds, which will also host The Rest Is Football podcast, produced by Lineker’s Goalhanger Podcasts, with one episode released on the platform each week. The BBC has said future plans for Match Of The Day would be “announced in due course” with Mark Chapman, Alex Scott, Kelly Cates and Gabby Logan among those being tipped as candidates to replace him. Following the announcement, Lineker said it “has been an absolute joy and privilege to present such an iconic show for the BBC, but all things have to come to an end” on his podcast, The Rest Is Football. He added: “I bowed out in my football career when I felt it was the right time. I feel this is now the right time. “I think the next contract they’re looking to do Match Of The Day slightly differently, so I think it makes sense for someone else to take the helm.” Lineker has hosted Match Of The Day since 1999 and will have presented the show for more than a quarter of a century when he leaves in May 2025.Actor James Van Der Beek is selling memorabilia from one of his biggest movie hits to pay for the “expensive” treatment of his stage 3 colorectal cancer. The actor announced on his Instagram last week that he’s selling signed jerseys emblazoned with the name of his character from the 1999 movie Varsity Blues . In a video promoting the endeavor, Van Der Beek, who played quarterback Jonathan “Mox” Moxon in the football flick, appears wearing the bright blue jersey and confidently spinning a football on his finger. “Excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of #VarsityBlues with a limited edition #4 Moxon jersey—each one personally autographed by me,” the actor wrote. “100% of my net proceeds will go to families recovering from the financial burden of cancer (including my own 😇).” On Friday, he boosted the effort on his Instagram story, encouraging his followers to buy a jersey as a Christmas gift, along with a hashtag reading, “#cancerisexpensive.” Van Der Beek, famous for starring on Dawson’s Creek , revealed his diagnosis earlier this month. “I‘ve been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family,” he told People then, adding, “I’m feeling good.” A post shared by James Van Der Beek (@vanderjames) President Joe Biden caused a stir while doing some Black Friday shopping at a Nantucket bookstore. The outgoing president was spotted leaving the store with a book about the modern history of Palestinian “resistance” titled, The Hundred Years' War on Palestine: A History of Settler Colonial Conquest and Resistance 1917-2017. Written by Columbia University professor emeritus and renowned Palestinian-American historian Rashid Khalidi, the book asserts that the modern history of Palestine “resistance” can “best be understood” as a “colonial war” to force an indigenous population “to relinquish their homeland to another people against their will.” Biden’s viral photo comes on the heels of a US-brokered cease-fire between Hezbollah and Israel announced Nov. 26 following months of criticism over de-escalation efforts. Biden declared, “The fighting across the Lebanese-Israeli border will end.” Although it is unclear whether Biden purchased the book for himself, Khalidi was less than impressed to see his book with the president. “Four years too late,” the author told the New York Post. Online, the photo was also politically panned. “Well that’s a bit late in the game to go through a tutorial,” wrote one X user. Gay couples are rushing to tie the knot and start fertility treatments before Donald Trump ’s inauguration, NBC News reported . Same-sex marriage has been legal in the United States since 2015 after the landmark Supreme Court ruling, Obergefell v. Hodges decided that state bans on same-sex marriage were unconstitutional. Despite the high court’s ruling, some gay Americans fear that the Supreme Court may overturn Obergefell, much like it did Roe v. Wade in 2022. Mary Bonauto, who argued on behalf of same-sex couples in Obergefell , reportedly dismissed the likelihood of an overturned ruling. “I understand that there are things about these times that introduce a lot of uncertainty in people’s lives. I understand that,” she told NBC News. “But right now, and certainly for the foreseeable future, marriage equality is not one of the things that would change.” Still, in 2020, Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito signaled that they would be open to reversing Obergefell . It’s unclear, however, if the Trump administration intends to attempt a roll back of protections for same-sex couples. However, the president-elect has vowed to reinstate a ban on transgender Americans enlisting in the military and abolish gender-affirming care for transgender minors. Scott Jennings, whose role as the reliably pro-Trump commentator in CNN panel discussions has provided no shortage of headline-making moments , has joined the editorial board of the Los Angeles Times , he announced Friday. “It’s true – I’ve accepted @DrPatSoonShiong invitation to join the editorial board of the @latimes,” Jennings, an alum of George W. Bush’s White House, wrote on X. “I plan to represent those Americans who believe they are often ignored or even ridiculed in legacy media and applaud Dr. Soon-Shiong’s move to bring balance to the editorial board.” Billionaire Times owner Soon-Shiong, who blocked the publication from endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris, said Wednesday he intended to bring on Jennings as part of changes to the editorial board. (When asked about the planned move later, he reportedly grew “combative” with an interviewer.) Earlier this year, Jennings was widely criticized for calling Muslim-American Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) a “public relations agent for Hamas.” There’s electric toothbrushes, and then there’s the AquaSonic Black Series Ultra Sonic Toothbrush . Rupert Grint, famous for playing Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films, has been ordered to pay the equivalent of around $2.3 million in back taxes, according to The Times . He had been originally ordered to pay the sum in 2019, after HMRC, the British tax-collecting agency, investigated his returns from the 2011 to 2012 tax year. A payment of about $5.7 million to Grint from a company that managed his business affairs for “consideration for rights, records and goodwill” for his work had raised investigators’ eyebrows because it was listed as a capital asset. HMRC, though, determined that it was actually income and should have been subject to a greater tax. Although Grint had attempted to fight the verdict in court, Judge Harriet Morgan decided against him, finding that “derived substantially the whole of its value from the activities of” Grint, meaning that it should have been taxed as income. Grint, who starred in all eight of the hit wizardry films between 2001 and 2011, earned around $30 million for his work with the franchise, per The Times . Joe Rogan hinted Thursday that he would be open to visiting Mar-a-Lago to record a second interview with Donald Trump for his hugely popular podcast—even though he was unwilling to travel for an interview with Kamala Harris ahead of the election. “Yeah, we have to. We helped Trump get elected,” Rogan told his guest, comedian Ari Shaffir, on Thursday when asked about the prospect of recording at the president-elect’s Florida resort. Shaffir suggested that the session could take place on Jan. 14, when his Netflix comedy special is set to release. “Can we get together?” Shaffir asked. “Trump’s obviously going to walk on,” he added, to which Rogan and comedian Shane Gillis enthusiastically agreed. “One hundred percent,” Rogan said. “He’s gonna walk on if we do Mar-a-Lago.” In late October, Rogan hosted Trump in his Austin, Texas, studio for a wide-ranging three-hour interview. While Harris, Trump’s Democratic opponent, also sought to share her message with Rogan’s massive audience—largely composed of young men—the podcaster said he would not do it unless she traveled to his studio. “I strongly feel the best way to do it is in the studio in Austin,” Rogan wrote on X in October. The interview never took place. Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle weren’t invited to the royal family’s Christmas gathering at Sandringham House, one of King Charles ’ countryside homes, a source told People on Friday. The pair haven’t attended the annual gathering since 2018, a few months after they married. The following year, they spent the holiday in Canada, and shortly afterward announced that they would “no longer be working members” of the royal family. Last year, the couple reportedly would have accepted an invitation if offered. In the Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan , Markle described a pleasant experience at her first Christmas at the estate in 2017. “I remember so vividly the first Christmas at Sandringham. Calling my mom, and she’s like, ‘How’s it going?’ And I said, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s amazing,’” she recalled . “It’s just like a big family like I always wanted. And there was just this constant movement and energy and fun.” The strained Harry-Charles relationship could be improved by a potential retirement by the king’s private secretary, Daily Beast founding editor Tina Brown wrote recently . Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky outlined his requirements for a peace deal with Russia on Friday. Asked to respond to President-elect Donald Trump ’s suggestion that Ukraine should cede territory, Zelensky told Sky News that if the North Atlantic Treaty Organization accepts Ukraine’s membership request, he will consider diplomatically negotiating Ukraine’s Russian-occupied territory at a later date. “If we want to stop the hot phase of the war, we need to take under the NATO umbrella the territory of Ukraine that we have under our control,” Zelensky said. “We need to do it fast. And then on the [occupied] territory of Ukraine, Ukraine can get them back in a diplomatic way.” The war in Ukraine has been ongoing since Russia invaded in February 2022. Trump has suggested that once he assumes office, he will be able to end the war in 24 hours. Do you eat breakfast everyday? Be honest. It’s an easy meal to skip due to the morning rush. Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion star Mira Sorvino opened up about the status of a possible sequel. Sorvino, who starred alongside Lisa Kudrow in the hit 1997 comedy, said that the original cast is all set to return. “This is all pending, them making deals, them saying yes, but they’re all in there,” she said in an interview with People . Sorvino added that her and Kudrow are executive producers, and a director is already attached to the project. “But it’s not officially greenlit, so I can’t say that it’s officially greenlit,” she continued. The screenwriter of the original movie also returned with an “amazing funny script, which checks all the boxes for all the fans,” Sorvino said. The cult classic film follows two women who invent life stories to impress their classmates at their high school reunion. Sorvino said that there are “rumors of shooting [the sequel] second quarter next year.” An Australian actress and OnlyFans star opened up about her relationship with her step-brother, who she is pregnant to after the pair got married in Sept. 2023. Speaking on the UNCENSORED podcast, Scarlet Vas, who first became famous from starring in the Australian show Neighbours , talked about meeting now-husband Tayo Ricci when they were teenagers. Once their parents got together they became “family,” they said. However, that didn’t deter them from pursuing a relationship—or profiting from it on OnlyFans. Ricci said that while they make some step-sibling content, it’s not to “the standard that people would expect.” “I’m not gonna lie, when I was young, I fantasized about it. Yeah, it just felt so wrong until it felt right,” Ricci said on the podcast.

Michigan, Ohio State fight broken up with police pepper spray after Wolverines stun Buckeyes 13-10FARGO — Family members of both the suspect and victim in a fatal stabbing last spring were present in the courtroom as a judge set a July 14, 2025, date for the murder trial on Thursday afternoon. Michael Diedrich, 29, appeared in front of East Central District Court Judge Reid Brady alongside his attorney, Jesse Lange. He is charged with one count of intentional murder in the stabbing death of 22-year-old Ethan Larson on March 28 in the parking lot of a south Fargo bar. Assistant Cass County State's Attorney Ashlei Neufeld said she had hoped to set an earlier trial date in the matter — she had indicated at a previous hearing that prosecutors would be seeking to set it for April — but the federal court calendars for Diedrich's two defense attorneys were full until the July date. Neufeld added that the case would likely take two weeks due to the large number of witnesses. Several of Larson's family members were in the courtroom Thursday, as well as two women who identified themselves as Diedrich's family members. Neufeld noted that there are also two other jury trials in front of other judges already scheduled for the week of July 14. "It would be the state's position that, with the other trials, only one judge's goes," she said. "We're already eight months out. It seems appropriate to be able to set a date certain — this is a case involving a lot of witnesses and we have the victim's family to consider as well. I do not want to find ourselves all of a sudden on the Thursday before a Monday murder trial having to move our dates because we're short a courtroom." Brady said he could not overrule other judges if those cases were previously scheduled, and Neufeld suggested a conversation with the other judges to get some agreement that the Diedrich trial take precedence over more minor cases. The stabbing stemmed from an argument between the two men that started inside Southtown Pourhouse, a sports bar on the city’s far southwest side, according to court documents. A police report said a bartender overheard the argument and the men agreeing "to go fight outside." Witnesses and bar staff found Larson in the parking lot on the west side of the building bleeding to death around 1 a.m., not long after the men were thrown out of the bar. A bartender told police he saw Diedrich get into a white pickup truck and drive away. He was arrested later that day. The Class AA felony murder charge Diedrich faces carries a mandatory minimum sentence of four years with a maximum of life without parole. He pleaded not guilty in July. The next proceeding in the case will be a pretrial status conference, scheduled for July 11, the Friday before the trial.PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Nick Dorn's 21 points helped Elon defeat Navy 69-63 on Saturday night. Cyclone Fengal makes landfall, brings heavy rains and gusty winds to TN & PuducherryIn a dramatic Champions League encounter, Benfica twice came from behind to end AS Monaco's unbeaten run. The Portuguese side secured a 3-2 win on Wednesday, aided by late headers and a critical red card for Monaco's Wilfried Singo. Monaco's Eliesse Ben Seghir opened the scoring in the 13th minute, following an impressive counter-attack. However, Benfica responded with intensity. Angel Di Maria almost leveled the game in the first half, but missed opportunities allowed Monaco to maintain their lead until Vangelis Pavlidis capitalized on a defensive error. Despite Monaco's second goal from substitute Soungoutou Magassa, Benfica surged back with two late headers from Arthur Cabral and Zeki Amdouni. This victory pushed Benfica to 14th in the standings while Monaco dropped to eighth place, marking a significant shift in their campaigns. (With inputs from agencies.)

The plan approved last year, spearheaded by former provost Pardis Mahdavi, focused on interdisciplinarity, such as adding a new School of Emerging and Applied Technology. The most recent plan is the opposite, and sorts similar disciplines together. The College of Humanities and Sciences will be split between the W.A. Franke College for conservation and forestry programs, a new Science College for mathematical, physical and biological sciences, and the Phyllis J. Washington College for humanities and education. For the second time in as many years, the Board of Regents has approved a request to plan to shuffle around the University of Montana’s schools into new colleges. UM Provost Adrea Lawrence told the Board at their Nov. 21 meeting that this new structure will improve the visibility of UM’s science programs, letting it stand out as a STEM college. She said the new structure will also make collaboration easier. Each proposed new college has a task force set up to help shape its implementation, Lawrence said, and her office has consulted with faculty, staff and students. Lawrence said that curricular changes will take place over the next three to five years in accordance with a portfolio review done last year. The Board unanimously approved the request along with all its other action items on Nov. 22. Andy Tallman is the education reporter for the Missoulian. Get local news delivered to your inbox!
